the "jack finds out tim is robin and instead of steph sneaking around (because why would she if i don't plan on killing her off), tim asks her if she'd like to be robin and when she says "yes" and bruce says "no", they do it anyway, with tim becoming her man-in-the-chair/oracle knock-off" au. title might be a little long lol

anytime someone asks me “there’s more than one Robin?” i begin to vibrate at a frequency only dogs can hear and my brain goes to static and then i open my eyes hours later to find i have explained the entire history of all the Robins and their vigilante identities after outgrowing the title to some poor unsuspecting soul

i get a lot of asks about what fic recs i have and i am in fact compiling a list (i discovered most of them from alighterwood) but right now my favorite fic that i have been following is The Buzzard by FlightL3ss_Bird1029 on ao3 and it needs its own post specifically because i am that in love with it

it's an au where Tim doesn't become Robin and instead, Steph takes up the mantle. It has a prologue called Fledge that had me hooked from the beginning.

Fledge's description:

"When Jason Todd died, Tim took it upon himself to find a way to save Batman from his dark spiral of violence. Maybe if things had gone differently Tim would have offered himself up to take the Robin mantle and work alongside his hero. Unfortunately, Tim was too busy running his parents' company after the untimely death of his mother. But he knew how to be useful, and other opportunities presented themselves for him to do just that. He felt a little bad about helping to kidnap Damian, but decidedly less bad about helping Steph become a hero. He just hoped that his use wouldn't run out before getting to help his Robin."

The Buzzard's description:

"After a difficult year (for many reasons) Tim goes back to Gotham to help Jason Todd reconnect with his family. Whether Jason wanted that or not, well, Tim had time to wear him down. Between the tutelage of Deathstroke and Lady Shiva, he was well equipped to handle himself as Jason's equal and hit Gotham's vigilante scene as the Buzzard. His parents were dead and the lonely cavity in his chest kept growing every day, but it didn't matter. Tim's mission could and would succeed despite his personal feelings and failures. He was fine and he had a job to do."

Everyone is so well written in this and I think about it constantly. The Buzzard currently has 10 chapters, 103,528 words. I don't usually rec fics until they've finished but this one is always on my mind, so I had to

Can we take a moment to appreciate how Damion Scott drew Stephanie Brown as robin?

She always looks so determined— she’s literally the definition of moxie (convince me otherwise). Her posing is always on the dynamic side, unlike the more brute-force characters. But she’s never depicted as particularly ‘sneaky.’ Everything about her is a statement, from her shoes to her hair.

And her HAIR— oh, her hair. I might be reading too much into this, but I feel like it’s so telling of her characterization. Maybe it’s because she’s young enough to not know how/not feel the need to constrict herself to modern ideals for hair. Or maybe it’s because she puts her all into being Robin that her hair gets all frizzy and the only time efficient thing to do is to put on a headband.

The trio

Fans of Steph!Robin were robbed in a lot of ways but one of them was that we never got to see Batman, Robin, and Batgirl in action. It was always either Bruce and Steph or Cass and Steph, never the three of them. We never got Bruce teaming up with two teenage girls. While Batman may inspire fear, I believe in a teen girl's ability to absolutely devastate a criminal's self-esteem through verbal (and nonverbal) judgment and insults. Cass and Steph absolutely roasting the hell out of some thug and Batman has to step in like, girls, enough, you got him. I think he's crying at this point, maybe ease up on the guy.

I'm literally investing in the idea that (some) of the Robin's did that little kid thing where you don't want to walk in after a car ride, so you pretend to be asleep. And, of course, your parents *know* you're not actually asleep, but they carry you in anyway.

I imagine Dick did this a few times, when he wasn't huffy at B for whatever reason. I like to think he STILL does, just for fun. Bruce forever acts like he doesn't tote him in, no matter the age.

Jason absolutely did this. All the time. Tired after patrol? You KNOW he's making B carry him in. I think Bruce wishes he'd doze off in the Batmobile one day, just so he could tuck him I'm again— it won't happen. But still.

I don't think Tim would really do this in the beginning, too focused on being Robin and Batman's sidekick blah blah blah. And then by the time he'd accidentally worked his way into being a son he felt like he was too old for it. (He accidentally falls asleep in the ride home once. Bruce carried him in anyway.)

Steph, I do not know, cause I'm not the best at her lore— but, if not B, I will tuck her in. I will carry her. Because all the Robin's are very dear to ME.

Damian would've thought himself clever, better, if he'd managed to "trick" Bruce into carrying him in. He learns to appreciate it in truth.

Are these canon? Absolutely not! Do I *care*? No. I'm here to be happy y'all don't eevveeenn <3
