Summary: Being a new student is already complicated. But when you end up developing an unwanted crush on a schoolmate, everything seems to get worse. This particular schoolmate is romantically involved with someone. And to make matters worse, the popular school quarterback starts to bother you.

Your palms are sweating as you carry your chemistry project out to the middle of the football field. In the bleachers, classmates and even students from other grades are gathered. Hazel took it upon herself to invite some extra onlookers to witness your experiment. She even tricked Jeff into thinking there would be free cookies to get him to show up. A few teachers and the school administration are also here to see what you and Hazel have ambitiously named “the message of the year.” It’s a chance for the school to kill two birds with one stone—showcasing a standout project while setting an example for other students. As you settle the project into place, your nerves spike, realizing how much Hazel’s spectacle has turned a simple presentation into a grand event.

Hazel tries to reassure you, running her hands gently along your arms. "Looks like you're about to lose it, Y/L/N. Relax, it’s going to be fine," she says, with that signature confidence that somehow makes things seem less terrifying. But as you glance at her, frustration rises. If this blows up—literally or metaphorically—Jeff’s going to be out for blood. And after your last run-in, he won't hesitate to make things even harder for you. You can't shake the image of him rallying against you, fueled by that bruised ego and a dose of revenge. But as Hazel smiles, her hand lingering on your arm, you feel the slightest comfort in her touch. Maybe, just maybe, things might actually turn out okay.

"Promise me that if everything goes wrong, you'll come up with some epic story about why I got expelled," you say, half-joking, glancing nervously at Hazel. She lets out a soft laugh, but instead of a reply, she steps closer and pulls you into a kiss. It’s not a quick peck or something subtle—it's messy, intense, and full of all the things unsaid between you two.

From the bleachers, you hear Josie and Isabel cheering, shouting, “Show her, Hazel!” Their voices cut through the murmurs of shocked students and the exasperated calls from teachers telling you to break it up. But in that moment, it’s just the two of you, tangled up and oblivious, right in the middle of the field, not caring who’s watching or what comes next.

"Why did you do that?" you ask, trying to catch your breath and pull your focus back together. Hazel just grins, as though she’d been planning it all along.

"To give you a bit of courage," she says confidently, "plus, now I think you'll take me a bit more seriously as a potential future girlfriend." Her tone is so assured, so casual, as if she hadn’t just kissed you in front of a whole crowd—including PJ. You feel a rush of mixed emotions: excitement, nerves, maybe even a little panic. But Hazel’s steady gaze holds you in place, making you wonder if, somehow, everything is going to be just fine—no matter who saw.

"Alright, you’re unbelievable. Let’s get through this experiment, and maybe after that… we can go on a date. But you’ll have to convince me that—" you start to say, but Hazel gently holds your face and gives you a long, soft kiss. When she pulls back, she looks at you with a knowing smile, as if she’s certain there’s nothing left to convince.

“Let’s wrap this up,” she says with a grin. “There’s a spot nearby that makes the best burgers in the world.” You can’t help but smile back, feeling that strange blend of exhilaration and calm that only she seems to bring out in you. Whatever comes next, you’re ready for it, as long as Hazel’s by your side.

"So, me and Y/N are here to present our project. It’s a message for those who can understand. We suggest you stay in your seats and enjoy the show." Hazel says into a microphone, capturing everyone's attention. You pull the cover off the mannequin, revealing it dressed like a football player, looking just like Jeff. In the middle of the mannequin's chest, there's a sign that reads, "Snitches Get Stitches". Hazel came up with this idea after the bad moment at the kissing booth.

The mannequin has several tubes connected to it, which you and Hazel spent the night making for the presentation; theoretically, when you press the button in your hands, the mannequin will explode and spray fake blood all over the field. "Hey, people watching. If you’re being bothered by an idiot, harassed or something like that, we can teach you how to make them understand the message. And if you’re a jerk who goes around messing with people’s lives, our most sincere fuck you goes out to you." With whispers and shocked laughter rippling through the crowd, you and Hazel share a quick look before pressing the button together. The mannequin explodes with a satisfying pop, sending fake blood spraying across the field in a vivid, theatrical display. Gasps, nervous laughter, and a few bold cheers erupt from the bleachers, as everyone watches, transfixed.

The mannequin’s bold sign—"Snitches Get Stitches"—is unmistakable, and Jeff’s expression changes from cocky to uncomfortable. Even his friends look unsettled, exchanging glances. Hazel gives your hand a squeeze, her face glowing with a blend of pride and mischief.

“Consider this a public service announcement,” she calls out, loud enough for everyone to hear. "For anyone who thinks they can bully or mess with others without consequence."

You catch a few teachers’ reactions, torn between shock and stifled laughter. Despite the inevitable repercussions, you can feel the impact you've made. With Hazel’s hand in yours, the defiance burning in your chest feels liberating—worth every risk. As the crowd starts to break up, Hazel leans close, voice low but amused. “So… about that burger. Shall we?”

"You've got fake blood on your face," you tease, as Hazel approaches you, turning your face to the side and licking your cheek. "The blood is edible," Hazel replies after licking your face, noticing that her mouth is stained red.

"You two, young ladies, are in big trouble. You'll be serving detention for the entire month, and make sure to clean up this mess!" the principal says, approaching you closely but avoiding getting splattered in the pool of fake blood.

"However, girls, know that your project turned out great. You earned an A in the class," the chemistry teacher chimes in, smiling brightly. "Just don’t forget to wear more effective protective gear next time," she adds while applauding your work, almost dragging the principal away from the field.

"You had to use all that fake blood, didn't you?" you complain, remembering it was Hazel's idea to go all out with the gore.

"It's easy to complain, princess. Do you really think Jeff would feel any impact if only a few drops of blood came out?" Hazel retorts as you both leave the field, you contemplating how to clean up this mess while she fumes over your ingratitude.

"Don’t call me princess. Let’s clean this up and get home already," you exclaim, lacking patience as you see Hazel approach, her hands finding their way to your waist.

“If you stop making that face, we can go to my house afterward. My mom will be home late, and I have a really bad movie we can pretend to watch while we explore each other’s faces. If you behave, I might even buy us a pizza,” Hazel says, planting a kiss on your cheek as if trying to soften you up. It’s working.

“A nice way to try to buy my good mood. Don’t get used to it, but let’s hurry up; I want to eat with you as soon as possible,” you say with a smile, and Hazel looks at you playfully. “I know exactly what you want to eat, but let’s go, princess. The faster we finish, the faster we’ll get to my place,” Hazel replies, holding your hand affectionately as you both walk toward the supply closet, knowing it will be hard work but that it will be worth it in the end.

Joan is the middle child of three kids, Finn being the oldest with 19 years old and Lily the youngest with 12 years old. She loves to bake but sucks at cooking normal dishes (does that make sense?), and usually bakes with Isabel.

She also loves to write and read, she sometimes plays the acoustic guitar or practices on her skateboard (even if she sucks at it)

She’s in the yearbook club, and loves to take the school pictures around campus and editing them and and and…

She loves to play video games, her favorite one is definitely Splatoon, or Minecraft, but she just explores caves, she doesn’t have a house, just a dog, food, and the things she needs to explore

She joined the fight club just because Stella Rebecca told her that she didn’t want to be alone there, and also because Isabel and Brittany insisted her. Joan never liked fighting physically, nor verbally.

When she entered the doors of the gym, she saw who she thought was the prettiest girl ever (no homo), Hazel Callahan. If it wasn’t because Stella was practically dragging her by the wrist to enter, she would’ve turned around and leave.

Romantic Life :33

She had a boyfriend, his name was Matt, she liked him(?), yes, but… sometimes she just thought about this one girl… this one shaggy short haired girl with the most beautiful blue eyes she has ever seen, but, hey! Joan’s not a lesbian, oh, no, no, nooo! She just… sometimes wishes that Matt was a girl so he could understand her a bit better!

Fight club wasn’t that bad. After all, she got to meet Hazel better, and, gosh… she was even more beautiful up close, she had these freckles… and, the way she laughed… mhphmhmh… no, wait, huh?

Joan started feeling even more guilty every time her boyfriend would try and kiss her. She would do two things; 1) pull away and just… awkwardly look away, or 2) kiss him and maybe with enough imagination think it was actually Hazel… but, hey! Joan’s not a lesbian!

After a while, with Isabel telling her those obvious things that Joan never seem to see about herself, she managed to break up with Matt, because she realized that, Ding, Ding! She was actually a lesbian, and completely in love with Hazel.

Well… Hazel’s kinda… oblivious to what Joan thinks are the most obvious clues that she liked her. Even though they’re obviously not.

Here is a normal conversation in between Hazel and Joan before they started dating (which Joan believed was the most flirty thing she has ever done)

Joan: what’re you doing?

Hazel: huh? Oh… taking notes! U know… I have to keep track of the most important stuff that happens in between meetings so the ones that were absent can practice!

Joan: woah… I, you’re, that’s… yeah, cool… the notes are really cool… have u ever thought of joining the yearbook club? U have the face of someone… who would write… amazing… uh, articles *she nods, believing that she just flirted with her*

Hazel: oh! Thanks! I’ll think about it!

Yeah… so! With Isabel’s help, Joan had the guts to one day finally tell Hazel what she felt, and, Hazel felt the same! They started dating ever since.

It was nice! For the first time in years Joan felt like she could actually be herself around someone she found attracted to, it was the best feeling ever!

You don't want to be dramatic, but your first day at the new school is a much bigger challenge than you imagined it would be. After chemistry class, you had math with a teacher who spent more time flirting with Jeff than actually teaching anything. During the break, you couldn't avoid Josie and her group. It's not that you wanted to avoid her, but spending the time you should be using to eat in peace watching adorable couples seemed like something that would make you sad. Besides, from a distance, you saw Hazel's girlfriend with her at the table. The last thing you need is to see the girl you might be attracted to with someone else. So you ate alone in the bathroom, which is kind of gross, but you promised yourself that you would pretend it never happened. The rest of the day was almost as if you were invisible. That is, until after your last class, when you ran out because the bus that would take you straight home was about to pass near your school. But as soon as you turned, you collided with someone. The moment your body hit theirs, you fell to the ground.

"Can't you watch where you're going, damn it?" you mutter furiously. It had to be the number one enemy of peace: Jeff, the jerk quarterback.

"Look who's got a sharp tongue. Little nerd, you were the one who ran into me. But I think it's cute that you want to crawl on the floor to get to me." Jeff says, striking a pose like he’s Superman. You roll your eyes and try to get up. Without success.

"Your stupidity is honestly infuriating. I would never crawl to you. In fact, every interaction I’ve had with you today has been against my will. And since I’m being honest, calling me a nerd isn’t as groundbreaking as you think. There are a thousand other ways you could address me that would be more insightful and creative." You say as you struggle to get up from the ground. Your other classmates are already leaving the class you were in, and thanks to the idiot in front of you, you missed your bus.

"You should worry more about getting off the ground than giving me tips on what to call you, nerd," Jeff says, winking at you. Before you can think about kicking him, he moves away from you, almost skipping. How infuriating. As you finally manage to stand up, you notice Hazel watching you, as if she had been waiting for you.

"How long are you going to keep looking at me?" You ask as you brush the dirt from the floor off your clothes. The anger you're feeling right now could make you go after Jeff and kill him. But the truth is that you already have enough problems and don't want to be transferred again.

"I thought you'd want a ride. And it was a little fun watching you get up by yourself." Hazel speaks while exuding an air of amusement at your humiliation. You instantly roll your eyes.

"You don't need to give me a ride, walking home is the icing on the cake of this horrible day at school." You’re out of patience, especially since it seems you can’t avoid either Jeff or Hazel.

"Are you so afraid of being alone with me?" Hazel asks with a mischievous smile, which makes you a little indignant.

"Try to decide what you want to accuse me of doing, either I'm in love with Jeff or I can't resist you, Both aren't worth it." You say while looking straight into Hazel's eyes. Your concentration is all on not looking at her mouth and imagining what it would be like to kiss her lips.

"I'm still getting to know you. I can't say exactly which option is right. But come to think of it, you probably like me." Hazel is very confident while suggesting that you like her. How can someone you’ve known for less than twenty-four hours already deduce that, and be right about it? It’s insane.

“Alright, you win. I’ll accept your ride if it means you’ll stop talking and we can move on.” You say while trying not to admit any attraction to Hazel.

"My car is the one to your left. If you’d follow me, mademoiselle, I’ll take you home." Hazel says, pointing to her car while accompanying you to it. She seems eager to impress you, even opening the car door for you.

“You know, I can open a door myself. And I just noticed that you offered me a ride without knowing where I live. What if it’s out of your way?” you say while getting into the car and fastening your seatbelt.

“I think I mentioned wanting to take you to my place before dropping you off at yours so we could work on the chemistry project together, remember?” Hazel says with a mischievous chuckle as she starts driving. You look at her with a judging stare.

“You know what I think? That you’re taking advantage of the situation to spend more time with me. Which doesn’t make much sense since you were accusing me of liking you, but it’s actually you who wants to spend your free time with me, even though you’re already committed.” You emphasize while turning to look at Hazel, who is focused on driving but glances at you with a sideways smile for a few seconds.

“First of all, I’m not committed. PJ and I hook up sometimes, but it’s not a serious or exclusive relationship. And I never said I wasn’t interested in you; I only accused you of being interested in me. Don’t blame me for stating the obvious.” Hazel replies with such calmness. You regret bringing up her commitment status, realizing it might come off as jealousy.

“Well, whatever. Your personal life is none of my business. What is my business is where you’re taking me.” You say softly, trying to appear uninterested in Hazel’s life. Wherever you’re going, there are beautiful gardens along the way.

“Actually, it was cute to see that I sparked jealousy in you so quickly. You must be the type who gets attached easily, which is sweet. And we’re almost at my place.” Hazel says, glancing at you briefly as if to reassure you.

“As long as we only talk about the project, it’s fine with me.” You say, still trying to appear disinterested. Hazel chuckles and then parks the car in front of a large house.

“And what else could we do besides talk about the project?” Hazel asks, getting close to your face as if she’s about to kiss you. You, foolishly, close your eyes as if expecting the kiss. But instead, she simply removes your seatbelt for you.

“Are you trying to mess with me?” you say, still with your eyes closed, thinking Hazel has already pulled away. But when you slowly open your eyes, you find her watching you, not in a weird way, but as if she’s enchanted by you.

“I am. And I hope it’s working,” Hazel says, then moves towards you, pulling you in for a kiss. The kiss is gentle and surprising, yet overwhelmingly captivating. Her lips touch yours as if both of you were starved for it. For a moment, you lose yourself there in Hazel’s car, savoring the sweet taste of her mouth. Then her phone rings, and after trying to ignore it, she answers, interrupting the kiss. Noticing it's PJ, you decide to wait outside the car. So, you stand there, next to the car of someone who interrupted a breath-stealing kiss to answer her situationship.

Ash sat cross-legged on your dorm bed, absently twirling the ring on her thumb while you paced the room in a state of theatrical frustration.

“He literally took three hours to text back,” you groaned, throwing yourself onto the bed beside her. “And then had the nerve to say he fell asleep. Like, I saw him post on his story twice.”

Ash smirked, but it didn’t quite reach her eyes. “Maybe he just sucks.”

You gasped dramatically, grabbing a pillow and clutching it like it held your fragile hopes. “Don’t say that! I mean, he does, but like… ugh. I thought this one might be different.”

Ash watched you with the kind of careful attention she usually reserved for art galleries and old poetry books. You were all tangled energy and big emotions, the kind of girl who laughed too loud and loved too hard, and she was hooked—quietly, hopelessly hooked.

“You deserve better,” she said softly.

You let out a sigh, still staring at the ceiling. “Yeah, but where is better, Ash? Why does it feel like every guy either wants attention or can’t be bothered?”

Ash hesitated. The words itched at the back of her throat, words she never said out loud.

I wouldn’t make you wait. I’d notice the little things. I’d actually listen when you talk about your day.

Instead, she shrugged. “Some people are just blind.”

You rolled over to face her, eyes wide and sincere. “Thank god for you, though. Like, seriously, I don’t know what I’d do without you.”

Ash met your gaze, forcing a smile even as her chest tightened. “Yeah,” she murmured, “me neither.”

And as you reached out to intertwine your fingers with hers in that casual way you always did, Ash only thought one thing:

I could be a better boyfriend than him

I could do the shit that he never did.
