Danielle sighed, looking up from her scrawling in her notebook, "And yet, 'little adventures' seem to be all I'm having these days..."

The look she gave her was that of a glare. No doubt meant to say "And a lot of them are your fault" without actually saying it out loud.

Ruby rubbed the back of her head, crossing her legs as the mattress beneath her threatened to cave in. For this was quite true. The most dangerous ones were actually Danielle's fault, but sometimes she forgets that going around any given village and helping out in small ways was not her idea of "using her time wisely".

"Sidequests", she called these bouts. And Danielle would much rather be back on their so-called "main quest" by now.

No matter how much of a fool's errand it turns out to be. But Ruby did not have the heart to tell her the grand quest Danielle is on is just yet another little adventure to her.

"...You do seem to like documenting the fruits of our 'little adventures' for someone who'd rather curl up with a book by the fireplace," Ruby told her at long last, teasing.

Danielle looked up from her efforts to jot down today's idea of one such adventure, wide-eyed and sputtering. The feather pen the hotel desk came equipped with almost knocked her tea cup over.

"Excuse me?! Someone has to document our findings, if not for our sake then for the sake of the next poor fool to end up in this world where our common logic holds no water!" She slammed the pen down in a huff, folding her arms, "And as the world's first magiscientist, I must take that task upon myself. Going on little adventures in order to track down lost merchants, who really should know better by this point might I add, in the bog marked 'Danger! Big scary swamp monster ahead!' was not a part of that last I checked."

As if she didn't spend most of that little adventure utterly entranced by the very Creature's magic. As if her observations weren't the reason no one died today.

And the less said about her recent escapades as "the Enigmatic Seeker" as the news had taken to calling her, the better. For someone who'd much rather stew in her very much not-soda chamomile tea, Danielle does an awful lot of adventuring.

May heaven help the person who points out the contradiction though. And Ruby knows better by now than to haplessly foist that role upon herself.

She stood up then, positioning herself behind the pouting excuse of a "magiscientist". She put her hands on the back of her chair, "And like it or not, keeping track of knowledge is important on any adventure, little or grand. Hell, I wager we'd both be in that damn bog monster's cave, strung up and bled dry of all our... our..."

Another sigh from Danielle, though this time softer and less like steam coming from her nostrils, "Our strength, exactly like you think. However, this one, befitting of something their danger level, wanted to bleed people dry because they feed on exhaustion for god knows what reason. And then eat them. I didn't make the rules. This alligator atavism..."

Both of their worries were swiftly swept away into the throes of the nightly conversation. And Ruby can't say she minded all that much.

I'm always gonna be a little upset about Ruby ending up with Dorothy.

Their relationship was just super forced in my opinion. There was 0 chemistry between the two, it just felt kinda stagnant and awkward.

I get love at first sight, it's one of the main themes of the series, literally what Snow and Charmings' relationship is based on. But it was just done wrong for Ruby and Dorothy.

Ruby really only had two main love options to me.

The first being Dr. Whale- because yes. It's Red Riding Hood and Doctor Frankenstein, it shouldn't work but it does.

Their talk after Whale tries to jump off the dock is just touching, completely opening themselves up to each other in an extremely vulnerable moment.

In their one- maybe two- meetings, they had more chemistry than Ruby and Dorothy did.

And the second- my personal bias- was Ruby and Mulan. 100%. These two were the wlw ship of OUAT for me.

You see the way Mulan is looking at Ruby? That is love at first sight.

That is the most "Oh wow" look I have ever seen.

Ruby and Mulan had maybe 3 episodes in total together, and yet they had as much chemistry as any of the official couples did. The way Mulan's looking at Ruby could rival Hook and Emma's longing glances at each other.

Nothing in this show is topping Ruby and Mulan's introduction, their first meeting is quite literally Ruby mounting Mulan. That's one of the gayest (complimentary) things I've ever seen.

Mulan literally followed Ruby to a different land.

Ruby had two extremely viable love interests, and it's such a shame to me that she didn't end up with either of them.

And honestly, Mulan really deserved to end up with Ruby. Her entire story is just heartbreak, always being chosen over for someone else. Mulan and Ruby could have been an absolutely beautiful relationship, with Mulan learning to open herself up again and let herself love, and Ruby finally finding the family she's been searching for for so long, in the woman who followed her to freaking Oz no less.

This was just such a lost opportunity for a genuine relationship.
