You wanna get out of here?: Dancing
@atlasapphicweek Day 4
[Image ID: Kyoshi and Rangi are sketched dancing in the middle of a large group of people. Rangi is in front, facing the viewer, dressed in a sampot, a sbai draped over one shoulder, and a range of jewelry, posed with one hand held aloft. Kyoshi is standing behind her, bent down slightly so that their heads are level almost level to press her lips into Rangi's cheek. One of Kyoshi's hands cups the one that Rangi holds aloft while her other hand is laid possessively on Rangi's hip. They both look at each other, slight smiles on their lips, mouth slightly parted. Both the people in the foreground and background are blurred and slightly transparent. White text at the bottom reads "Kyoshi and Rangi (at the same time): Do you want to get out of here?"]

Alright, I'm going down a rabbit hole.
In my Marioverse, there's a sort of universal way monarchies are run and how rulers are dressed based largely on historical Western Europe; most monarchies that adhere to this practice are allies, and thus it's sort of a symbol of unity, a distinct style that they all share in. However, each kingdom has its own parallel to nations in our world. The nations themselves reflect a mix of modernity and history, while monarchs wear their nation's traditional clothing for special occasions.
It's still heavily a work in progress, but here's what I've got so far!
The Sarasaland Empire is parallel to India. Its capital, while borrowing elements of ancient Egyptian culture and archeology, is actually parallel to the state of Rajasthan, while Daisy herself hails from the Muda Kingdom, which here is parallel to the state of Kerala. Daisy is thusly Marayali.
Since I can't draw, I'm scouring the internet for references for her traditional dress, and here's some good ones that sum up the idea: a traditional Kerala saree with an orange blouse and yellow/gold accents (first pic) and emerald jewelry (second pic).

For the Beanbean Kingdom, I'm thinking Southeast Asia? This one's had a lot less thought put into it. I jumped and said Laos first off, but now I'm thinking Cambodia. Complete coincidence and something I'm still researching, but Cambodia was colonized by France at one point in its history and a little over a million people still speak it, which would explain the presence of French within the kingdom. On top of that, its numerous famous depictions of the Buddha bring to mind the ever-present symbols of laughter the kingdom's themed after.

There is… frustratingly little in-depth info on traditional Khmer fashion in the English language, at least from cursory digging, so Peasley’s and Queen Bean’s traditional dress will take me a while longer to solidify. For now I’ve got lots more research to do on sampot, but their outfits will likely resemble these (just… less intimate in their posing, since they’re. Y’know. Mother and son).

Aaaaaaaand that’s about what I’ve got. I don’t even know where to start with the Mushroom Kingdom and Peach, but that’s my next goal!

Standing Ganesha
Cambodia, second half 7th century, pre-Angkor period
Stone, Dimensions: H. 17 1/4 in. (43.8 cm); W. 10 9/16 in. (26.9 cm); D. 6 in. (15.2 cm)
In Southeast Asia, Ganesha, the Hindu deity who removes obstacles, has a more independent status than in India. His images were often housed in separate temples as primary icons of worship. Here, Ganesha is shown wearing a short wraparound skirt (sampot), the front end of which falls down the center in a series of flaring folds characteristic of the Prasat Andet style.

hi chronicler!! is operator chronicler friends with drusus at all? do they swap notes or compare stories? maybe drusus has even allowed "contributions from an esteemed colleague" in his leverian? :3
Hey, uh, sorry for taking so long (like a month or two?) to respond to this. I'll be completely honest I forgot about it. But regardless, here we are and I'll do my best to answer your ponderings.
So, for Operator Chronicler specifically, the answer would actually be No. This is for two major reasons. The first being that while Drusus focuses on tales from the System's past, The Chroniclers focus on the System and it's people in the present. Its less history and more archiving, saving what is so that those who will be can look back with a clear lens. The second reason is tied to the backstory of Operator Chronicler and, specifically, the idea that Drusus might actually recognize him. Now, the two never met before, but Drusus would know Operator Chronicler but a very, very different name, one almost scrubbed from history. Operator Chronicler doesn't want to be recognized, which is why he would probably just politely ignore Leverian's existence and do his own thing, writing about people and places young enough not to feel a sense of recognition upon seeing Operator Chronicler.
However, your ideas are not unfounded. For the "esteem colleague" in this case is definitely Drifter Chronicler. Being stuck in Duviri, drifternicler (as affectionately refered to by a mutual of mine) has not experienced the System quite as much as his younger counterpart. Being the curious goofball he is, he would definitely also enjoy poking at the past as well as the present, investigating details about any stories he may hear in passing just to sate his own wonder. And, indeed, this might lead him to the Leverian, where he could meet and make acquaintance with Drusus. Of course, he wouldn't have much to share about the System, what with being stuck in a magic fantasy void realm, but I feel like he would definitely help Drusus flesh out the stories from his library by, as I've mentioned before, investigating any strange details or lack thereof that catch his eye. This, combined with his extensive and plentiful history in Duviri, could actually end up creating a whole new area of the Leverian, one about the many misadventures of a certain Scholar in the 'definitely fictional' world of Duviri. After all, when you can claim you've beaten Kullervo by batting Tamms at him with your Sampotes, you've very much deserved it. (oh, and btw, the Tamm thing wasn't some challenge. It was just an experiment that popped into drifterniclers head one day)
Thank you for this ask, sorry again for taking so long, and hope you got the answers you seeketh.
Oh, and if you or anyone else has any questions about my blorbos, feel free to ask!

I LOVE this idea!! They have instructions on how to turn the skirt into pants. Reminds me of sampots. They even have skirts marketed at men!

Note
How do Penn and Fitch's weapon choices compare? If (hypothetically) Fitch was put in Duviri, what drifter weapon would she use?
Penn tends to use weapons that give him better range. He likes being able to strike, unseen, and only once. He was originally fond of sampotes (it is hard to get back up from a caved-in helmet) but as he grew stronger began to favor Azothane. With his frame, he prefers a bow, pistol, and has no real preference for melee.
Fitch is very upright in how she fights, and would likely pick Sun and Moon. She's not accurate, but she'd want to learn from Teshin and find herself more comfortable with them as a result. She rarely uses her Amp if she can avoid it. In her frame, she's fond of a combination of a shotgun and some type of thrown weapon for a secondary, alongside a good sturdy heavy weapon.

MWW Artwork of the Day (7/15/23) Khmer Empire (Indochina, 802-1431 CE) Devatas (minor female Hindu deities)(early 12th c.) Bas-relief frieze Ankgor Wat Temple complex, Cambodia
Images of Devatas, the female divine carved figurines, are seen in profusion here, as in other Khmer temples. They are the centre of attraction in Thommanon. The devatas depict flower crowns, sampots (Cambodian skirts), necklaces, armbands, belts and ankle bands. The mudras displayed are complex. The devatas grip the flower very distinctively, holding the ring and middle fingers against the thumb, while the index and small finger are extended. The sampots of the devatas though are divided into two distinct types of sampot, one type is the ancient pleated style, seen in the Bakheng period at Lolei and Phnom Bok (900 CE), and the other is a patterned fabric style with folds and “tail” seen at Angkor Wat.
