Thinking about the time Fig realized the best way to get adults' undivided attention was to say "I'm a kid, I'm scared, I need my mom."

And then there's Adaine, watching a scene so foreign she doesn't know what to do but repeat that she's a kid. Knowing that when she's scared her mother is the last person to turn to. Unsure what this is going to accomplish but trusting Fig completely.

for those who wanted it;

been thinkin a lot more about sylvan culture being appalachian in the world of spyre, and i think it's less so about the actual, like, traditions that make it make sense to me (although there is some of that in it too, the musical styles and traditional crafts being a big part) and more about the role sylvaire and the sylvan people play in the world building of spyre

like,, the nightmare king and his forest being a result of religious persecution feels like a valid allegory for scottish and irish diaspora and how that added to and shaped appalachian culture

it's the nightmare aspect of the forest itself, and the way arborly has grown into a community around it that i think mimics the way so much of american supernatural folklore comes from the appalachians and people living there just grow up learning it

it's the self-sufficiency through necessity, leading to isolation and distrust of others that we see in the ranger group in arborly

it's the way high elves look down on the wood elves and the way they treat them similarly to how a lot of americans think of appalachain people as 'white-trash'

i think that sort of ignorant trailer trash stereotype would absolutely inform the way bobby dawn, a character modeled after southern evangelists, would have approached and treated sandra lynn

it's in the way sandra lynn canonically is doing much better and has way less interpersonal drama when surrounded by a village helping her deal bobby dawn jumpscare not withstanding (junior year sandra lynn i love you)

it was almost certainly just a mistake of brennan being insanely tired during filming and ivy being a bit npc, but ivy's accent shifting from the leviathan-esque one we hear in the beginning to just straight up sounding like adaine and aelwyn in the finale does feel a lot like girls i went to college with who had learned to not talk with their original accents until they got too tired or drunk to remember to hide it because they were so worried about people judging them

and yeah, some of it is the fact that the majority of the sylvan characters we see are rangers, i won't lie, and rangers have always given those vibes to me
