Fangtom | Lego Ninja GO Fanart
There was a time when I watched Lego Ninja GO (I worked at a kid's hair salon and some of them wanted to watch this show) and I liked the Serpent antagonists.
Fangtom, is one of the snake lords from Lego Ninja Go. A few years ago I remade Pythor in my style and I decided that I'd draw down all snake lords from the show. All of them look cool, but that Lego-body shape looks goofy on all of them.
His people, the Fangpyres are vampire snakes - if they bite someone, the victim will become a snake. Fun fact, but when they accidentally bite themselves (god knows how...) they grow a second head, Fangtom being one example.
Also, here is the speedpaint of this piece:

LEGO Life-Sized Technic McLaren P1
The 1:1 scale P1 was constructed from 342,817 Lego Technic pieces. That number includes 393 distinct types of pieces, including 11 that were made specifically for the model.
The car tips the scales at 2,690 pounds, making it nearly 400 pounds lighter than the vehicle it is based on. In total, 23 designers, engineers, and builders were involved with the project, which took 8,344 hours to complete.

Just did CrossFit open 24.2, had to do the scaled version as I don't have double-unders consistently enough, but got my pacing nicely and hit 734 repetitions in the 20min time cap. Disgusting last 5 mins
The workout for those unfamiliar was:
300m row
10 x deadlift (84kg/185lb or 61kg/135lb scaled)
50 x double-unders (single unders scaled) - this is skipping fyi
As Many Reps as possible in 20 mins. So you just do these movements on loop as fast as you can.
Really wanted to Rx as the row and those 84kg deadlifts are fairly easy for me, but the double unders dictated a scale workout! With a fused ankle, super hard maintaining the skipping, broke into 30/20 pretty quickly to give my one working leg a break, but got it unbroken in the last rounds again for a sprint finish.
I'll share the finish in another post later on, it is not dignified...

I approve of powerscaling discourse only in utterly senseless contexts. I don't give a shit about which shōnen protagonists could beat up which other shōnen protagonists, but I will 100% read your five thousand word essay exploring the subtle nuances of establishing a tiered ranking of the Smurfs.

There's this sort of anthropomorphizing that inherently happens in language that really gets me sometimes. I'm still not over the terminology of "gravity assist," the technique where we launch satellites into the orbit of other planets so that we can build momentum via the astounding and literally astronomical strength of their gravitational forces, to "slingshot" them into the direction we need with a speed that we could never, ever, ever create ourselves. I mean, some of these slingshots easily get probes hurtling through space at tens of thousands of miles per hour. Wikipedia has a handy diagram of the Voyager 1 satellite doing such a thing.
"Gravity assist." "Slingshot." Of course, on a very basic and objective level, yes, we are taking advantage of forces generated by outside objects to specifically help in our goals. We're getting help from objects in the same way a river can power a mill. And of course we call it a "slingshot," because the motion is very similar (mentally at least; I can't be sure about the exact physics).
Plus, especially compared to the other sciences, the terminology for astrophysics is like, really straightforward. "Black hole?" Damn yeah it sure is. "Big bang?" It sure was. "Galactic cluster?" Buddy you're never gonna guess what this is. I think it's an effect of the fact that language is generally developed for life on earth and all the strange variances that happen on its surface, that applying it to something as alien and vast as space, general terms tend to suffice very well in a lot more places than, like... idk, botany.
But, like. "Gravity assist." I still can't get the notion out of my head that such language implies us receiving active help from our celestial neighbors. They come to our aid. We are working together. We are assisted. Jupiter and the other planets saw our little messengers coming from its pale blue molecular cousin, and we set up the physics just right, so that they could help us send them out to far stranger places than this, to tell us all about what they find out there.
We are assisted.
And there is no better way to illustrate my feelings on the matter than to just show you guys one of my favorite paintings, this 1973 NASA art by Rick Guidice to show the Pioneer probe doing this exact thing:

"... You, sent out beyond your recall, go to the limits of your longing. Embody me. ..."
Gravity assist.
#space#astronomy#astrophysics#language#paintings#the antidote to despair is awe#the quote is from the poem ''go to the limits of your longing'' by rainer maria rilke and translated by joanna macy#druid speaks#the thing that got me thinking about this was watching Animation VS Physics tbh#because the whole gravity assist section is so epic in scale and the music swells and its so. Romantic in the art movement sense#i mean the whole thing is epic like that. but seeing the term ‘’gravity assist’’ pop up did something to my brain specifically
