How to get motivated again to finish a fic?

Hey all, first time posting so forgive any mistakes. I have an incomplete fic that I really liked writing but it’s been a few years since I updated it, so it’s hard to jump back in. With the current state of the world keeping everyone inside I thought now would be a good time to return to it, but how? How do you guys get motivated to return to an old project?

For anyone curious, it’s a Fire Emblem / Downton Abbey mix. (Fe world but themed in the same style of downton) ship is Frederick/Robin bc I refuse to believe this ship is dead.

Thank you for any advice! Edit: not almost a year but, in fact, 2 years. Man time flies.

Do you ever wonder what Fenris keeps in those pouches? like what are you holding? Treats for Hawke's mabari? Treats for Hawke? The world may never know.

I bet he keeps some coin in one of them, enough to buy a little food if he’s lucky or sway someone if he must. I love the idea of Fenris having treats for the mabari. He doesn’t strike me as an animal lover right away, but Hawke’s mabari is simply too majestic and intelligent and too advantageous in battle to not like. What if Hawke knows there’s a little bit of food/bread in one of them and he tries to steal some but accidentally grabs some of Dog’s treats instead? He’d eat them anyways.

robin worries more than frederick, definitely. frederick doesnt even care about what he looks like, as long as his attire is immaculate and his body is physically healthy. robin doesn’t really think about it too much either but she does keep her appearance in mind while she’s scarfing down like 3 pies in one sitting lol

Who makes the mix tapes/cd’s

in a modern au probb frederick lmao... it’d be part of his sappy attempt to romance her and he’d name it something disgustingly cheesy and boring like “To My Sweet” or “Songs For My Love”. it’d be a mix of classical music and popular radio music bc he has no clue what’s what. all in all it’d be a complete mess and robin would poke fun at him for it but she’d secretly hide it in one of her bookshelves and listen to it when they find themselves apart for periods of time

Clings to the other during scary movies

robin!! but she wouldn’t even be all that scared it’s just an excuse for her to feel his biceps lbr. except frederick would probably start ranting about how dumb the characters in the movie are (why’d she lock herself in the closet is she trying to die??) which in turn would ruin the scare-factor of it all and robin would end up staring at him like get out i’m watching this with someone else

Gets into the shower with the other randomly

r o bin (”: if she can wake up early enough she might try to join him during his early morning shower but usually he kicks her out bc wtf she’s not supposed to be in here with him!! sometimes she claims that she’s trying to ‘save water’ considering the lack of resources they have in the camp and depending on his mood he might give in

robin aGAIN omg... she’d walk passed him unclothed and on purpose smfh. frederick would probably just roll his eyes and flash her an amused smirk while commenting on his pretty, pretty wife

both of them!! it really depends on who’s driving tbh like if robin’s behind the wheel frederick will grab her hand and vice versa. frederick knows it’s unsafe but sometimes he can’t help himself lmao... they try not to do it when morgan’s in the car tho.

Secretly tries to touch the other in naughty places during public/family events

neither of them OMG... they’re both known to take risks from time to time but lmaoooo... can u imagine robin’s hand discreetly in frederick’s pants as she’s trying figure out a battle strategy with chrom and he’s presiding over them (”: i do like to think that robin pats him on his conveniently exposed ass whenever possible tho

Asks weird questions in the middle of the night

both of them. it doesn’t happen 24/7 but if robin’s engrossed in a good book she’ll sit frederick down and explain the plot to him and voice the opinions/questions she has and being the patient husb he is he’ll listen to her all through the night if he has to. frederick, on the other hand, occasionally asks things like “Do you think Chrom’s asleep right now?” and “What kind of tea should i brew for Lissa tomorrow?” and robin’s just like omg... go to sleep frederick

Asks “what are you thinking about?”

frederick!! lots of times robin has that far away, befuddled look on her face like she’s thinking v deeply about something and he’ll pop the question because he’s concerned and/or curious. he's used to having to care about others’ needs and he’s good at paying attention to details but with robin he has to actually ask if she’s okay because she’s v hard to read. of course robin’s concerned with frederick’s thoughts and feelings too but she's pretty insightful so she can usually figure things out on her own

Always has to be touching the other, (if either of them do)

neither of them?? i’d like to think that they’d have a v private relationship. with the exception of like, robin booping fredericks ass from time to time and the two of them sharing sly glances across the mess hall when virion’s  trying to show off, they don’t really engage in pda at all??? but in private they like to hold hands and they can be touchy if they’re in the mood. the mental image of robin resting against frederick’s side as she reads and he knits is just too good for me to pass up
