November was a shit show and I'm STILL recovering from it (literally falling asleep at my computer only a few hours after waking up, that's how tired i am lately) but I've still managed to get words in (on the WRONG STORY but whatever. still words, i'll take them)
This means that right now I am SO CLOSE to finishing the sequel to The Scout's Path that I can practically TASTE it. Which might just be the fastest I've written a non-one shot in ages.
(Current word count is around 44k and I'm just TRYING to tie off the last two chapters)

Getting to the point of drafting in my fic where I going to cover time-skip material- and it’s brought up a question I think about from time to time- which is what are some of the main Scout characters ranks going into Season 4?
Talking about after the Re-taking Shiganshina Arc… because clearly 1) the Scouts are decimated down to a handful of people and 2) they gain recruits once the Garrison is disbanded.
So anyone ‘surviving’ would be ranked higher than someone joining later and starting from scratch right?
By the time we see the Scouts again at the Liberio Raid it’s implied that Armin, Jean, and *maybe* Floch have some sort of rank or leadership role- but the only named ranks that are ever referenced are Levi as Captain and Hange as Commander…
Then in the Rumbling we see Armin get promoted to Commander- and Levi is referred to as his subordinate so he couldn’t have been higher than Captain himself before that. Hange herself was promoted from ‘Squad Leader/ Section Commander’ so I guess it’s a logical jump in Paradis military rankings?? In general it all seems very arbitrary and confusing.
In short though- for the purpose of my fic I think it makes sense that both Jean and Armin received some sort of promotional status after Shiganshina but before Liberio.
But not ranked high ‘enough’ to be considered top brass or they would have gotten the wine?
What are general thoughts about this? 🤔

My theory is that Mark Scout has so many deep seated issues and trauma that he compartmentalizes everything and therefore cannot reintegrate until he accepts every part of himself… something something accepting and healing your inner child with empathy and love instead of neglecting and abusing him

Hearth to hearth, the Flame of War went.
Over snow-blasted mountains and amongst the trees of tangled forests, hiding from the enemies that prowled the skies. Through long, bitterly cold nights where the wind howled as it tried to wipe out any trace of that flame.
But the wind did not succeed, not against the flame of the queen.
So hearth to hearth, it went.
To remote villages where people screamed and scattered as a young-faced woman descended from the skies on a broom, waving her torch high.
Not to signal them, but the few women who did not run. Who walked toward the flame, the rider, as she called out, "Your queen summons you to war. Will you fly?"
Trunks hidden in attics were thrown open. Folded swaths of red cloth pulled from within. Brooms left in closets, beside doorways, tucked under beds, were brought out, bound in gold or silver or twine. And swords-ancient and beautiful—were drawn from beneath floorboards, or hauled down from haylofts, their metal shining as bright and fresh as the day they had been forged in a city now lying in ruin.
Witches, the townsfolk whispered, husbands wide-eyed and disbelieving as the women took to the skies, red cloaks billowing. Witches amongst us all this time.
Village to village, where hearths that had never once gone fully dark blazed in answer.
Always one rider going out, to find the next hearth, the next bastion of their people.
Witches, here amongst us. Witches, now going to war.
A rising tide of witches, who took to the skies in their red cloaks, swords strapped to their backs, brooms shedding years of dust with each mile northward.
Witches who bade their families farewell, offering no explanation before they kissed their sleeping babes and vanished into the starry night.
Mile after mile, across the darkening world, the call went out, ceaseless and unending as the eternal flame that passed from hearth to hearth.
"Fly, fly, fly!" they shouted. "To the queen! To war!"
Far and wide, through snow and storm and peril, the Crochans flew.

i went on trekking today and was dissapointed at yellowjackets again. society if they leaned onto the supernatural feeling of being trapped in some woods that Dont Wan You to Leave, have some girls in the skipped spring three months adventure south and maybe kill some wolves for fun van vindication but lastly they Cant Leave, the compass doesnt work, the orgy frogs bust their eardrums, the turns and trees are all the same, maybe they follow the blood river and past around it five times before getting somewhere idk

This isn’t really meant to be a comic trashing my dad.
I do truly appreciate his commitment to education.  I do truly have a soft spot for his style of humor, which certainly influenced the development of my own.  I appreciate how he had this VHS-C camera that he was always bringing out and would let me use, sparking my love for movies and starting me on a path that led to me going to film school.
All those good things about him were real.
But so was the colossal amount of damage he caused.
If you happen to be a parent and are reading this right now, I’m going to ask that you consider this suggestion from a childless thirty-six year old:
You need to consider how you communicate with your child, and how communication doesn’t just mean the words that you use.
You’re telling your kids something with the foods you eat, the activities you engage in, etc…
…you communicate to your children with the media you consume.
The rhetoric against the trans community wasn’t as much in the spotlight when I was growing up, but every time my dad turned on the radio, he’d have my sister and I listen to the likes of Rush Limbaugh, or Sean Hannity, Mark Levin, etc…  One of the topics that’d come up frequently was queer people.
Issues about Don’t Ask Don’t Tell, gay marriage, gay boy scouts…
The “gays” were an issue.  More than an issue really, they were a problem.  If someone was queer, these radio hosts were quick to villainize; “this teacher is going to turn their students gay,” “this troop leader is going to abuse his scouts,” you don’t want your kid to end up like that, do you?”
My dad would listen to these folks non-stop and nod along in agreement, all the while his extremely queer and aware of it child was sitting right behind him, listening to how she was some kind of monster.
So I hid.
There could be no sharing about aspects of myself.  My parents would be listening to 770am or Fox News all the time.  If I share that I was queer, I’d be finished.  How couldn’t that be the case?  Every day they chose to listen to people that hate me, so they hate people like me.
So I can’t let them know me.  I won’t let them know me.
Even though they never said that they hated queer people with their own words, they told me that they hated queer people every day with the media they chose, and in turn forced me to consume.
So again, if there are any parents reading this right now, consider my words.  Hate is a choice you make, and hate can be communicated with more than just words.
If for no other reason, you never know if that kid in the back seat is listening, listening to how you hate them.
