I have been thinking about Millicent Elden Ring again.

The shadow of a shadow, a bastard with no father, born solely by her mother's failure. The scorched earth was her womb and its foetid waters the breast from which she suckled. Raised to become a woman who never wanted her (who never wanted to become this version of herself) by a man who would see her blossom into profane godhood or die trying.

Your sisters are not your sisters; you do not remember them, and yet surely they must remember each other, if they stick so close. You are an outlier and a loner among your own small, small kind. Connections are painful, all bloodied gold and staunched, creeping rot. You are a literal biohazard, a mark of something gone horribly wrong. You can trace your lineage back to God, but She never would have wanted a grandchild like this. Never.

And so you crawl your way across this vast land to seek a woman who does not know you-- Either by the bizarre happenstance of your birth, or a conscious effort not to. You are an orphan who has never known your mother, not even in the unconscious period before birth. She is a great warrior, the greatest there has ever been, and you can only hope as you stumble through battle after battle that you hold a shred of that strength. That she would at least gift you this.

Inevitably, you fear her. You fear her reaction. You fear becoming her. You are where you are now at the mercy of strangers and people with great expectations from you. It's so much, it's too much to bear. If you can't have anything, not your arm, not your lineage, not your fate, then can't you at least have yourself?

Even if it kills you.

I'm not going to describe the twist of the DLC... But in light of it, Millicent is yet another body on the sacrificial altar of a new god. One that should have protected her and her mother.

FYI, I'm moving most of my activity to Dreamwidth.

I'll still be using this blog to post my work (art, memes, links to writing), but I cannot stress enough how tired I am of Tumblr. I don't feel at home here, I don't feel like I belong. I feel like I'm constantly walking with eggshells with what I'm allowed to like, what I should reblog, what others expect of me.

I won't be abandoning this platform entirely. I'll still check in with you guys whenever I can (you cook great stuff, I'd hate to miss it). But yeah.

It's a shame. A surprise? No. I've been debating this for years. This platform has such a potential to be lovely, but I think it's really gotten so corrosive in the past few years. It's nothing new, of course. That doesn't make it any more enjoyable.

I, personally, would like to save my mental health.

Mmmm I know a lot of people picture younger Arcade still being nerdy and wimpy but I think it'd be funny if in his late teens/early adulthood he was like. A jock and hypermasculine to help him hide his struggles with coming to terms with his sexuality and his emotional sensitivity
