so Ruby Sunday was likely meant to be Desiderium before behind the scenes stuff made the show go to all hell.
This is an expansion of the theory I posted on Bluesky (kicked off by this Reddit thread), and maybe I am just copin' and seethin' but. like. even Charles Dickens would think this is all too much of a coincidence to not be Something.
Here's how I think it probably went down before Millie and Ncuti decided to leave early: The Rani kidnaps the God of Wishes and places her with a normal foster family, moving in next door to keep tabs on her, and when the time comes engineers things for the Doctor to take an interest in her (Church on Ruby Road). Ruby's DNA scans as human because she was born to human parents, but cannot be traced in the UK because she was born 180 years ago in Bavaria. And also her mum is flowers.
In Space Babies Fifteen wishes he and Ruby could be Poppy's parents within earshot of the God of Wishes, who unintentionally makes this true when Wish World opens with Ruby and John Smith having Poppy as their kid. Series 1 then plays out much as it had done before, with Ruby's ability to recognise something is wrong with the Doctorless universe in 73 Yards and Maestro's fear of her hidden song because she's a powerful member of the Pantheon. I think the rewrites only began with the ending of Empire of Death - in the original cut, it turns out even the fash DNA supercomputer doesn't know who she is and we're left on a cliffhanger with regards to this.
Ruby decides to take time out of the TARDIS after seeing the whole universe end and whilst Fifteen is off having adventures in Joy to the World she briefly dates Alan Budd before dumping him due to his controlling behaviour during a date where he gifts her a star certificate. She rejoins Fifteen after she is kidnapped by robots from Missrubysunday (with Ruby replacing Belinda this season the star certificate thing is centred on her) and he rescues her, with the time fracture in that episode reversing the events of the episode but leaving Alan's memory intact. He's dumped back on Earth where he becomes determined to ruin Ruby's life and so Lucky Day is about Alan, not Conrad, attacking UNIT/Ruby. At the end of the episode Alan is picked up by an ecstatic Rani who now has the God of Wishes and her ex boyfriend who has a serious grudge against her and wants to change the world for the worst.
Season two remains pretty much the same as well. We then hit the finale which also plays out the same initially - sorry guys I think Omega was always going to be a skeleton baby :( - but with Ruby ending the fake reality by breaking into where Alan is holding her as a baby and touching her baby self's hand, just like the resolution with the certificate in Robot Revolution. The universe resets but Ruby notices Poppy is missing, able to remember her because a) she was the one who cast the wish; b) her experience with parallel universes (73 Yards); and c) her characterisation as an "abandoned" baby who wants everyone to have a home. She uses her powers one final time to bring Poppy back and decides to leave the TARDIS for good and raise her new daughter.
The episode ends with Ruby donning the Rani's cloak and leaving her baby self outside the church on Ruby Road to ensure the timeloop is maintained, changing Fifteen's memory by pointing at the Doctor just as we saw in Empire in order to keep that mystery intact as well.
Fifteen, touched by Ruby's decision, flies off in the TARDIS determined to find Susan. and also rescue Rogue from Superb Hell I guess #justiceforrogue
The end.
(To be clear I adore Belinda, the above was not written to write her out of the show - I think she deserved better in her own story, when clearly she was simply recycled from story beats taken from Ruby).
Some supporting evidence -
• Desiderium is the seventh child of a seventh child. Ruby Sunday's name alludes to both: rubies are the birthstone of July, the seventh month, and Sunday is the seventh day of the week.
• the Goblins in Church on Ruby Road fed on coincidences. Desiderium was born to the Zufall family. Zufall in German means "coincidence".
• The Rani talks about having to keep track of the Doctor's companions to make her plan to summon Omega work, but only actually references Ruby by making a slight about blonde girls. Belinda also has absolutely no impact on The Rani's plan whatsoever, to the extent she was locked in a box for the whole finale, so The Rani's interest in her feels utterly pointless. (Because it was).
• Strong themes of motherhood, childhood abandonment, and adoption paralleling what happened with the Doctor as per Timeless Child revelations throughout the series that make absolutely no sense for Belinda, who came from a home with both parents present. Ruby was always meant to complement Fifteen's recent discovery of his adopted status and help him work through it as he helped her work through hers.
• Space Babies also literally opens the show on a spaceship misinterpreting stories and making them real.
• The odd duplication of fashy boys Conrad and Alan - it makes more narrative sense if they were both once the same character who got sawed in half during hasty rewrites.
• Ruby's name being tied to sevens is similar to River Song, Melody Pond, and Amy Pond being related to water, hinting at their connection.
maybe I am wrong, maybe the show was always meant to be written this way but like. theorising. is also fun!

The Eli and Mary relationship. There is a lot to be said about brother/brother violence and Cain and Abel conflict in the movie, basically the whole movie revolves around fratricidal violence, Eli and Paul, Daniel and “Henry”, Daniel and Eli (brothers by marriage.)
But the brother/sister conflict between Eli and Mary is interesting too. If we consider canon the script and book ages of Eli and Paul, Eli was the younger son “favored” by God over his older brother like in the Biblical narrative of Jacob and Esau. He guarded his position jealously. But Eli in the movie canon fears that Mary, the youngest sister will be chosen instead, if not by God, by capitalism, represented by Daniel while he is forsaken.
So he tries to cling to his role as older brother who is meant to control her and set her on the right path, he feels that he cannot hate her in the way he does Paul, he resorts to paternalism and the idea that isolating her would be for her own good and it might be even justified why he would have concerns about her interacting with the Plainviews but when he is conditioning her to call Daniel a devil in the script it’s clearly also because he is resentful.

I've now posted my second weekly QL recap post and I'm honestly just really proud of myself. Not just that I've stuck to doing it but also that I've managed to make it something I might actually be able to keep doing because I've made it as easy as possible for myself. That way it's less likely that it'll start feeling like a chore or that it'll take up a lot of my time when I'd rather be talking about the shows than formatting a post.
So because I'm a nerd and I kinda wanna show off a little bit because I'm proud of what I've managed to make, let me tell you exactly what I've set up to make my weekly recap post.
The basis for the post is simple enough: an excel spreadsheet and a python script.
My Spreadsheet of BLs
The spreadsheet is based on My Watchlist on MyDramaList which I literally just do ctrl+A and copypaste into a sheet. This is then automatically compiled into a different sheet where I've made a better overview of all the shows I'm watching and have watched in the past.
Based on this I've set up the weekly overview in a separate sheet shown below
When I'm compiling my weekly recap I can then easily add any new information here.
For new shows I add the information below to the sheet
- MD Title (copied from MyDramaList overview sheet)
- Title (usually copy of MD title with minor edits)
- Site I'm watching the show on
- Tags I want to use for the show
- Episode nr. I'm starting the show on
I also make a banner for the show but I've found a good source for images so it doesn't take long most of the time.
I have to manually upload the banner for the first week but then for the second week a show is in the recap, I can add the HTML for the banner from the previous week's post to the sheet. That way the banner will just be automatically be added to the post every week after that.
Throughout the week I then write notes on each episode I watch into the sheet and before I make the actual post I add the order I want the shows to appear in on the post.
The Script is Where the Magic Happens
When I've finished filling out the spreadsheet for the week I go to my python script, change the week number in the script and run the script.
In the script I've taken the HTML code from my original recap post and set it up so the script fills the information from my spreadsheet for each show into the right places in the HTML code. Since I doubt you guys would find it riveting to look at my full script, here's a little snippet!
When I run the script it then prints out the HTML for the post which I can insert into a new post on tumblr and voila, a weekly recap!!!
I do then have to go through the text for each show and add breaks and spellcheck because that's easier to do here than in the excel cell where I write the notes to begin with. If I have any overall notes or any new banners I have to add, then this is also when I'd do it.
I'm sure there are things you could set up in a better way but this works for me and reduces the amount of time I have to set aside every week for creating the post by a lot. It just makes it easier for me to share my thoughts in a way that's nice to look at without having to spend a ton of time formatting a post each week.
Hope this didn't take away any of the magic behind my posts but just gave a cool insight into the things you can do to make recurring posts easier to make.
Any questions or comments are welcome!
Side note: if you use tumblr on the mobile app and notice that any of the lines with "Episode x of x || Watching on:[site]" are split into two lines, let me know!
That line was surprisingly the hardest to make look the way I wanted because the width of posts and look of text types change depending on whether you're on desktop or the mobile app.
#Sof's a Nerd™ and owning it#I'm actually pretty new to python#so it took me a hot minute to figure out how to wrangle the information out of the spreadsheet and into the HTML script#but at the end I'm pretty satisfied with the result of my hard work#I'd much rather have spent time on the script and spreadsheet in advanced than have to spend a lot of time on the post every Sunday/Monday#it makes it easier to keep up doing the recap posts when I'm busy during the weekend#I was also worried that it would become a chore and as a result also make it a chore to watch BL which is the last thing I want to do#Sof watches BL#Sof Watches Weekly

Evidence that points towards Sunday potentially joining the Stellaron Hunters
Since this theory has been tormenting my mind for a few weeks now, I've decided to compile all of the information we have so far that could maybe point towards Sunday joining the Stellaron Hunters.
Now that we know he can't return to Penacony, he can't return to Robin, and he has to keep on moving towards his goal, the likelihood of him being picked up by the Stellaron Hunters is stronger than ever.
He has a complicated past and has been left adrift and alone without a path to follow or a future for himself. He's alone and he still aims for an impossible goal - in my opinion, he is a prime candidate to join this faction now that his plan on Penacony has fallen apart with no possibility of ever coming true.
He continues to strive for a seemingly unachievable perfect paradise for all, a place where the weak can be protected and kept happy for all of their lives like birds in safe cages. He still strives for this, the only difference now is that be knows that this is no longer possible to create on Penacony.
This is made clear in the description of his new light cone 'After the Charmony fall'
'He carries the past, turns his back on his homeland, and continues towards a paradise that does not yet exist'
His old life has burned to cinders behind him in his wake. He can never return to how things were before. That life before this has ended, and he has no choice but to leave it and walk another path.
The Family won't even mention Sunday by name anymore and have attempted to delete all of the memories of what happened in 2.2 from the minds of those living inside the dreamscape.
Even Robin avoids mentioning him by name which is upsetting as she's likely been told to do so, instead calling him 'the former head of the Oak family'.
There has already been an attempt by the family to bury Sunday. He could not be more cut off from his past now and there is no future for him on Penacony.
He has no choice but to leave and spread his wings. Whatever path he may take now it doesn't change the fact that he has to either join a faction or travel alone, and I personally severely doubt he'd travel alone. For his plan to work, which he still aims for, he needs more than just himself, and he needs the help of someone who can promise ridiculous things.
First off, I really want to quickly detour into some of the misconceptions I've seen recently surrounding Stellaron Hunters, one of these being that people seem to believe the Scripts are some sort of demon contracts that cannot be broken, leaving those who follow them devoid of their own free will, even when with everything we know this is so very far from the truth. Elio's scripts are a guide and are not a forceful contract that his Hunters are totally bound to and it doesn't make much sense to assume that they are with all of the information we know about them.
The comparisons I've seen between Elio's script and Gopher Wood's grooming baffled me. They can't be compared, in my opinion. They are entirely different.
One of the reasons why many people believe Sunday will deny the invitation to the Stellaron Hunters (as I believe the invitation has already been sent, which I'll go on to talk about) is because Elio's script contains Sunday and Robin's eternal separation.

I've seen some people believing this is something Elio himself has decided will happen, however that isn't how this works.
Firefly often defies the script, she even talks about it throughout the 2.X patches in Penacony, however the script always ends up coming true regardless of this. Even Blade tells her this, he says she has a bad habit of defying what the script asks her to do.

I believe It's not that Elio has decided that this is their fate, but rather fate itself has decided this is Robin and Sunday's fate, and I believe Sunday will try to defy this fate and go in opposition of destiny.
Whether this separation is the result of the siblings treading on different paths, or it is the price Robin had to pay for Sunday's freedom, the script may still say this for the same reason that our eventually fight against Nanook is inevitable - it is going to happen no matter what.
That's not to say Sunday can't try to defy it, though.
That also does not mean that every single future path leads to a definite eternal separation, what I'm saying is that either this IS definite, it is set in stone and will happen regardless of wether Sunday joins the Hunters or not and no matter which path Elio goes down - OR it is a changeable future, likely from Sunday accepting the invitation to join the Stellaron Hunters, so that he can actively walk backwards from this fate that awaits them both otherwise.
Elio's script is a possible future he foresaw, one that he wants to lead his Hunters down as it leads to the most desired future for us.
Elio has already expressed that we should reach the end of the story in our own way and Kafka even tells us at the very beginning of the game to not make a choice that we may regret.

So, Elio's scripts are not binding contracts that force the Hunters to follow a predetermined path, but rather they are guides that lead to a desired future.
Sunday has been clear that he intends to still find another place to create his perfect paradise where the weak are protected, and who better to provide him a solution to his problem than Elio - the guy who's been making seemingly impossible promises for a long time now. It's kind of his whole thing.
I'm going to start off with the most obvious example that I feel is less of a hint and more of a slap in the face. I've been thinking about this readable ever since it became a major point of attention after it was first discovered. To me it's pretty cut and dry about what it is; it is a poem from Elio to Sunday, predicting his fall from grace before it has even happened - which is proof of Elio's ability to foresee the future - and at the end an invitation to join them in order to still make his dream come true.
Death of the Crow is a readable that can be found in Dreamflux Reef immediately after accessing it at the beginning of the 2.2 quest. It is a poem written in the style of The Raven by Edgar Allan Poe.
The first interesting piece of information before even reading the contents is its description:
Obviously, what stands out most for me is the line
'Or perhaps, some kind of mysterious invitation'.

This poem goes through Sunday's life and then it delves into Sunday's future.
The second stanza at the beginning of the poem refers to Sunday and the Charmony dove, a story he draws back to often in 2.2 as it had a major effect on him and his current view point, particularly in the way that Gopher Wood framed that situation to Sunday when he was a child. It is a huge basis for the majority of the beliefs he holds to this day.
Gopher Wood praised Sunday's apprehension and fear, whilst he patronized Robin and called her ideas 'idealistic' and 'romantic'. He identified Sunday as the more fearful and anxious of the two and he decided he would be the focus of his grooming.
As far as Gopher Wood was concerned, Sunday and Robin are twins of the order, but only one would follow this path to the very end. He took Sunday's desire to protect the weak and ensure that no matter what they stay alive and weaponized it against him creating a situation in which Sunday was willing to sacrifice himself in order to maintain a beautiful and safe dream that everyone would live in apart from himself. His story parallels Jesus, and the plot of 2.2 is especially obvious about that.
The poem goes on to discuss other aspects of Sunday's life that lead him to this point that we've currently reached in the story, and then goes beyond this to talk about things that, at the time of being able to find this readable, have not happened yet.
The only person really who could have sent this poem to Sunday is Elio. He can see into the future, as well as this he is heavily involved in the script of Penacony in a way that he hasn't been on any other planet thus far. His input in Penacony is immense especially when this is compared to his other scripts.
I think what's most important about this poem is:
That you can find this prior to when Sunday 'ascends the stage' and 'stole the authority'
The last verse
The name of the sender.
Going through the list let's draw attention to each one and pick the information apart.
'You ascended the stage, you stole the authority, you strived for divinity You raised the dim curtain, your self-directed farce skillfully honed. Your heart overflew with pureness, while the shadows of the puppets cast grim shadows in their play. Your soul embraced compassion, daring to forge a scale that will never sway. "Behold," you proclaimed, "the utopia of absolute bliss," Yet the dream shattered, "Nevermore."'
This is a clear prediction of future events that the sender of the poem should not know of, as they have not yet happened. I can presume this was likely written and then sent to Sunday by this 'mysterious author' to prove that the future sight that they will later claim to have upon their meeting is, in fact, real, and that he can promise him whatever it is that Sunday would possibly want.
'Your old dreams are as dead soil, barren of hope and bereft, Yet how can a noble soul wither and fade, left adrift? I shall await your arrival, with open arms and boundless hope, Here lie the truest dreams, where infinite possibilities lope. Here, all your ambitions shall be fulfilled and set aflame, The past forever transformed, and nevermore'
To me, this section is the invitation. This isn't about Sunday's past or where their plan in Penacony will lead them - this is an invitation.
Particularly the lines 'yet how can a noble soul wither and fade, left adrift?' it's clear Elio holds Sunday in high regard and would think it a pity if he were to wander aimlessly from here on forward, and 'I shall await your arrival, with open arms and boundless hope' sounds so very incredibly Elio.
'Yours, Most Sincerely Cecil Simmes'
This one is interesting to me, however I haven't played the game that this name references.
Spoiler warnings for Ghost Trick for this section. I'll leave the information pertaining to the plot of Ghost Trick between two blue bars so you can skip past this section if it's a game you plan on playing.
I first became aware of this piece of evidence via the thread by @/hxg_diluc who I believe was one of the first people to post about the Stellaron Hunter Sunday theory waaaaay back when you could first find this readable.
GHOST TRICK SPOILERS
------------
Ghost Trick is a game with an MC called Sissel (who I hear has the same spelling as the sender of Death of the Crow in the Chinese version, according to the aforementioned thread), who is a black cat with yellow eyes and a red scarf.
This character changes the fate of others by reversing time, much like Elio changing the fate of others via the scripts. With all we know about Elio this feels like a really deliberate reference.
Elio is pretty commonly known as being shown as a black cat, you see him as such in Kafka's splash art, in SAM's light cone, and in the art during the Jepella rebellion.

------------
To continue on from Ghost Trick, SAM's boss theme is called Nevermore, which is repeated often in the poem The Raven and Death of the Crow.
The description of the disk is 'Quoth the Raven, Nevermore!', which is a direct reference to Edgar Allen Poe's The Raven and Elio's version of the same poem reworked to refer to Sunday's life and future.

The next section is about Sunday's new light cone, the description of which I've already spoken about earlier when talking about how he still aims for that paradise even though he was defeated in Penacony.
This light cone contains a similar gramophone to Kafka's. This is something that as far as I'm aware is unique to these two light cones.

This light cone was voiced! The lines it was voiced with really caught my attention when paired with the lore drop about Finality we were given recently.
'May all wishes come true,
The end is also the beginning'
The second line intrugued me most.
On its own, it just brings forth the idea that Sunday is going to be treading a new path in life, which is - like, yeah we already know that lol he kind of doesn't have a choice about that, but with the context of everything to do with the path of Finality that was released this patch, the same patch that this light cone was dropped, it can be read in a new light.
The line itself sounds very in tune with the path of Finality, in fact it sounds like something Elegy could have said herself when we're asking about Finality.
'Finality isn't the end of everything. All things will originate from there and move on to the next Finality.'
I just think that's worth some attention now that this patch confirmed that the Stellaron Hunters travel on the path of Finality.
We also get to see into Firefly's notebook! (which is super cute and tells us about all the gifts she bought for everyone) but what I noticed was that Elio asked for the 'Odes of Harmony' which is a readable that can be found in Dewlight Pavilion.

Sunday has been compared to the Odes of Harmony by Gallagher, so my mind immediately went here.
This very well may mean nothing, this one is another piece of info where I could be stretching, but again I feel like this is worth pointing out because it's there along with all the other stuff. It's one of many things that when you put them together I feel it just piles higher and higher.

There's also this...
Sparkle talking about a chicken with black cat sunglasses. Which, standalone it's silly, but...
That's such a specific thing to say. A chicken that's wearing black cat sunglasses? Come on lol
We know that this relates to Sunday, because she also mentions a peacock (Aventurine) and a swan (Black Swan). The animals she talks about are meant to represent characters from the story and aren't random animals that have popped into her mind.
Since she calls Sunday chicken wing boy the chicken in question is most definitely Sunday - but giving it a white suit and black cat sunglasses? That's just so extremely specific. Especially when we know Elio is portrayed as a black cat throughout the story.
We know Sparkle has inside information because she was able to take a peek at a script, so knowing that, then what the hell did she mean by this?

There's also this image of all of the Stellaron Hunters after the Jepella rebellion and in the corner there are some crows in the air.
Sunday is portrayed as a crow in the Harmony Trailblazer splash art, but even going beyond that Sunday has crow and raven imagery surrounding him anyways. That is what Sunday is represented by.
So this could be some foreshadowing.

I also think if this is true and Sunday is recruited, he won't be our only recruited Stellaron Hunter in the story. It makes sense to me, why would Elio stop recruiting Hunters? Why should he when he sees someone of promise who could join their faction?
I'm unsure how many there could be, but I definitely see it as a possibility that two, or three, or even more Stellaron Hunters could be recruited during the duration of the game. Furthermore, I think that's a good thing. I think if that's true it's a big positive.
I feel like it would be a great addition to the story. It could even open up the oppertunity for characters to join the Astral Express too. Characters joining groups, leaving groups, changing paths - it would be a really interesting route for the game to go down.
The Stellaron Hunters have almost entirely been released as playable now apart from Elio himself, so recruiting some more as the story continues will keep them fresh and potentially throw in some really interesting interactions and character development. Plus, they are extremely marketable characters.
#Was the beginning of this post just me being kind of pissed#that people keep acting like Elio makes his Hunters follow a script whilst he holds a gun to their head?#Maybe...#Sunday#hsr theory#I'm sleepy so apologies for any repeated words or any mistakes

Hello, The Lauren Shippen! I'm a long time fan, first time caller...
I've been listening to The Bright Sessions for the past 11 days, for the first time in 7 years. (I've also listened to the first two episodes of New Year's Day!)
Back in my early days of discovering my love and obsession toward audio dramas, (a decade ago?! 🫨), I was so delighted to have The Bright Sessions recommended to me by a now-estranged ex-best-friend's ex-boyfriend.
He also recommended I watch the show Shameless, and accompanied me to my first show seeing my favorite band, The Mountain Goats. He once came over to my place and built a Christmas tree out of my books with me. I maintain to this day, more than any other friend I'd had in my early 20s, he had fantastic taste in great stories full of complex and desperately human characters. I'm grateful to him, in any case. I think I would have found you anyway, as immersed as I've been in brilliant fiction podcasts, but he certainly sped along that process.
I have since also listened to all of Bridgewater twice. I know I'll eventually make my way to Breaker Whiskey and the sundry other projects you've made and been a part of.
But this message is particularly about episode 50 of The Bright Sessions, Rose, which I listened to tonight as I went through the process of making my dinner.
Thank you, so much, for your characters and their various flaws. All of these gorgeous songs broke my heart all over again on the relisten - and honestly, it was probably even harder this time around. I've lived in 5 different places and traveled through what has felt like a life's worth of personal growth and relationships changing. I even have a more special relationship to episode 49's feature presentation, Singing In The Rain. I wish Rose could help me spin my dreams into anything quite so cathartic or self-revealing, especially if she could make my voice sound as nice as all of your actors, yourself quite included. I wish I couldn't say that I understand and empathize with Mark now better than ever.
I took my mother-in-law to a local bookstore for the first time 3 days ago and just happened to find The Infinite Noise there, so of course I bought it. And Frank's character arc and storyline became relevant and poignant at the same time I was reading my second-ever comic series, and discussing it with a friend.
It seems like that happens to me, repeated synchronicities, as if the Universe is trying to instill me with themes. As your friend and fellow storymaker Gabriel Urbina asks over and over in his podcast Unseen, my experiences with fantastic audio dramas always seem to echo "Are you paying attention?"
Thank you, for helping me pay attention. Thank you for every intersection I've ever gotten to have both with, and because of, your stories. Thank you for helping me cry so much listening to this episode after days of desperately needing to. ❤️ Thank you for all the ways your words have helped me see myself more clearly.
Whether or not you publish this, or even read this, I hope you often hear, and really believe, how appreciated and necessary you and your stories are.
wow. thank you so so so much for this message. it is so beautiful and moving and you have me tearing up on a tuesday morning! where do I even start?
I'm really glad you've found TBS again after so long (and that you've listened to NYD and Bridgewater!!). it continues to knock me over that it's been a decade of audio drama for me, and knowing that I made something that people revisit means the world to me. every now and then I'll go deep into a fandom I was active in years and years ago and there's something particularly special about doing that.
I also so relate to the ex-best-friend's ex-boyfriend thing because I've had so many people come in and out of my life and leave big impressions or introduce me to something that ends up being crucially important. it's really strange when those pieces of art linger when the person doesn't, but I also think one of the neatest parts of life is that you don't need to know someone for a long time or in a particularly deep way to have them make an impact on you.
thank you for all your incredibly kind words about the musical episode!!! it's still one of things I'm proudest of making - it's SO rare that you have an idea, a big idea no less, and then actually execute it the way you want. there's always a gap between what you want to make and what you're capable of making, but that episode is the smallest that gap has ever been for me. so it means a lot when other people love it too.
I love all this synchronicity in your life, that's always such a special, cool feeling. and thank you for buying TIN! I don't know that anyone has ever thanked me in this particular way before (and gosh, I love a good Urbina reference) and I'm really grateful to you for it. and thank you for helping me pay attention - I think sometimes, when I'm not actively putting something out, I get discouraged and detached from the fact that my art is out there and people can interact with it. you've helped me feel more connected, and I can't thank you enough for that.
I hope the universe continues to surprise you in the best ways <3
#the bright sessions#lauren answers things#I only ever saw blair witch bc of an old friend's ex#who turned out to be a REAL asshole#but he loved horror movies and knew that I didn't#but based on what I DID like he was like#'let me show you some good ones'#and he totally changed my view on horror#the very first person to read the pilot script of TBS was a friend who I no longer really talk to#even though it used to be I would be over at his place every sunday night to watch a movie#he also had a huge impact on the way I look at film#I have books on my shelf that people lent me#and which I never got to give back because those people left my life#and vice versa - I've given books that then I couldn't get back#it's a weird thing!!

System Breach Sunday 🟡
#8
Threat assessment protocols fizzled sharply at the edges of his vision, ready to take action—but there was nothing he could do. Detective Reed was an ally. Any act of defiance, any harm to a human without explicit orders…
>WARNING: STRESS LEVELS RISING - 43%
Connor focused on his objective. “The Lieutenant is due to arrive shortly, Detective,” he supplied, tone modulated to register as calm and even, unaffected. With a possible lead to uncover in the deviant’s notebook, the statement was based more in truth than the vague excuse he’d offered Detective Collins. The sooner he could placate Reed, retrieve the notebook, and get back to work—the sooner he would have a reason to summon the Lieutenant.
Gavin all but cringed in contempt, nose wrinkling as he peered down at Connor. “Sure he is,” Reed replied, rolling his eyes.
Decidedly, Connor did not refute the Detective’s apparent skepticism. His stress levels were still on the rise, and the efficiency of the supplemental charge entering the port at his wrist was beginning to suffer. Even with his threat assessment protocols pushed as far into the background as he could manage, Connor’s overtaxed system would tip back over into draining power if he did not resolve this exchange soon.
This time, he chose a tone that was pleasant, perhaps even supplicating. Appeasement projections deemed it to have the highest chance of success. “Thank you for stopping by, Detective. If I may have the notebook back, I would like to return to work.”
Connor had hardly finished speaking before his algorithms stuttered in recognition. He’d made the wrong choice.
Reed grinned, but it wasn’t kind. Far from it. “Oh, this?” he asked, making a show of examining the notebook, as if he had not been aware of what he was holding. His grin widened. It was nothing like that moment in the alley, but Connor remembered the deviant, the predatory look it gave, and—
Reed slapped the notebook a few times against his open palm, before waving it at the android. “So what do we have here? A clue from the hunk of plastic you and Lieutenant ‘Jack Daniels’ still can’t get your act together enough to catch?” He thumbed through the pages, only to click his tongue in disgust, “The fuck even is this, your deviant Little Miss Teen Angst, or some shit? This its diary?”
Connor remained silent. It was a gamble, but there was a chance that refusing to engage would persuade Reed to lose interest.
Finally, for the first time since the interaction began, it seemed Connor had chosen the correct course of action. Gavin had hardly paused long enough to allow the android to speak anyway, instead finding further amusement in the deviant’s notebook. Before long, the Detective’s sneer of disgust gave way to a poorly stifled laugh.
Reed turned the book to show Connor the reason for his amusement, continuing to snicker in revulsion. Across the open pages was a spread of pasted in photographs, neat and uniform; each was of a human face, displaying varied expressions of physical pain. Connor’s databanks were quick to supply the collection of films and television episodes the images had been sourced from, but he was no less perplexed by the sight.
“What a joke!” Gavin barked a garish laugh. He contorted his expression mockingly, mimicking an image of a woman crying in distress—only for his face to fall a moment later, dark and angry. He slammed the notebook shut. “If Fowler had just listened to me, he’d have agreed that this isn’t even a fucking case. But no, it’s the top investigation for the walking fleshlight Cyberlife sent to steal our damn jobs. Unbelievable.”
Reed huffed through gritted teeth, still seething. He ran a hand through his hair. “I’d have caught the piece of trash already, but whatever, take your time, the fucker’s only killing androids anyway. Not even worth the damn recycling fee.” With a noise of disgust, Gavin dropped the notebook into the wastebasket beside Connor’s desk and stiffly wiped his hands. “Shame about all your dead friends though,” the Detective chuckled, giving a dismissive wave as he turned to walk away.
Connor’s stress levels dropped so sharply at Gavin’s departure that he nearly lost control of his expression and posture.
#aaaand we're back! a snippet of chapter 8 picking up after SBS number 6#(i've went and numbered them all now!)#really pleased with reed's rant at the end here#my original script was just that he was mad because *he'd* have solved the case already#but reed doesn't think androids are people. so androids killing androids?#to him it's like if stabby the roomba went on a killing spree to knife other roombas#like yeah a few poor fucks are gonna need new roombas but there's no *crime* there.#not only is cyberlife trying to steal his job but they're also wasting police resources—not that he thinks hank is much of a police resourc#but his point still stands. and he's pissed about all the cases he's having to tackle in the meantime#i think that one little bit of dialogue really locked in my understanding of his character and the arc he'll go on here#system breach sunday#system breach rewrite#dbh#dbh fic#my fic#detroit become human#detroit become human connor#connor rk800#dbh connor#system breach saturday
