Welcome to the Holmwood Foundation
Tumblr media
The Holmwood Foundation is a Found Footage Horror-Fiction Podcast created by Fio Trethewey @fiotrethewey (Big Finish: Gallifrey War Room, 18th Wall Productions) and Georgia Cook @georgiacooked (Big Finish: The Eleventh Doctor Chronicles, Gallifrey War Room, BBC Books, The Dracula Daily Sketch Collection). It is a modern day sequel to the gothic novel Dracula.
What is the Holmwood Foundation about?
Our story follows Jeremy Larkin (Played by Sean Carlsen) and Maddie Townsend (Played by Rebecca Root), two co-workers at the mysterious Holmwood Foundation, as they are possessed by the ghosts of Jonathan and Mina Harker, and embark on a road trip across the country in an effort to achieve their ghost's wishes: to stop Dracula once and for all. This is a story about identity and self discovery, family loyalty and devotion, all wrapped around a nightmare of a road trip with a rejuvenating severed head, incredibly sincere Victorian ghosts, and an analogue recorder. (Content Warnings for blood, horror themes and possession)

I’ve been making my way through my 3rd re-listen of the incredible podcast - Batman: The Audio Adventures & just appreciating once more not only how terrifically written it is by showrunner Dennis McNicholas but also incredibly well acted by all of the amazing cast. For any unaware, the podcast is an audio fiction blend of comedy & superhero drama that was previously only an exclusive for HBO MAX subscribers back in 2021 but now both released seasons are freely available on literally every podcast app including on MAX’s own YT Channel itself, no subscription required.
In particular, I love the Harvey Dent moment we get in Season 1 - Episode 6 - “The Whale of Damocles”:
I have to first off praise the inspired creative choice the series makes to give Two-Face the dynamic that his personas are essentially like constantly bickering twin brothers - arguing, name calling & posturing but still inseparable at the end of the day.
In the scene in question, Harvey’s binary obsession has allowed The Penguin to easily lure Dent to his favorite pier on the Gotham Wharf, Pier 2, to prevent a planted bomb from destroying it. Batman arrives soon after as Dent’s desperate search brings him to the most perilous part of the pier. Batman is so earnestly trying to appeal to Harvey to stop that he almost can’t prevent slipping into his Bruce Wayne voice when we then get an excellent memorable moment (@ ~31:50) where we get a glimpse at the tortorus psychosis Harvey is living through:
youtube
Harvey gives this tragic peek into his mind as he extols the awe-inspiring & nightmarish gospel he shares with his violent other half. It’s not only a very well written torrent of mad thoughts but also brilliantly & emotionally performed by Harvey/Two-Face’s VA: Ike Barinholtz. Batinholtz truly makes Harvey sound simultaneously mesmerized, terrified & sorrowful - on the verge of tears as he tells his former friend about the completely fractured way he views the world now & Batman’s actor Jeffrey Wright matches it with his desperate pleas to Harvey’s true self colored by the unflinching compassion he has for Dent.
For how invested the show is in genuinely trying to revive a bit of the Adam West era charm and fun camp & IMO successfully making the show legitimately funny, I believe it’s also equally in touch with the aspects of the franchise exemplified in shows like BTAS ie the darkness of the setting & emotionally resonant tragedy of both Batman himself and the different members within his rogues gallery. The show is not just sharp on a comedic level but also earnestly intriguing & engaging dramatically as well.
I have no doubt sung this show’s praises before but I don’t plan to stop anytime soon because I truly believe that the series is a must listen for every fan of Batman, superheroes & audio fiction/audio dramas generally. From top to bottom, the series is a brilliant production and stands to me personally as amongst the best content within the umbrella of DC Comics at least within the last decade.

I may or may not be trying to start a horror project that will actually be available to the public this time (as In I have a first draft for the pilot recorded)
So if you want to help show proof of interest please like this post
I’ll be tagging similar projects for the tags to try and reach the right audience
Here’s a little description of my show!
Archibald vail is a normal kid from a strange town who has started a podcast called the a.v club using school equipment, hiding behind a self started after school club he rants and raves about the going on’s of his day, little known historical events, social troubles and mundane supernatural events in his small Forest side town
I’m really exited to see how this goes because I’ve been working and waiting on this for over a year
Thank you.

BONUS! The Gardener (not a real episode duh, I wrote this!!)
[Madam Hotel]
"Hm, oh how the years fly by my darlings. I almost miss the feeling of my first guests, entering me and.. well *chuckles* never leaving. I remember every single one of you, every room, every single memory we shared together!"
*Groans of the old guests are heard in the distance*
"Aw~! Look at you now, bubbling and withering away, like simple corpses yet I know you're so much more then that. Isn't that right? You are your own person! Your own personality your own... being.
I wonder.. if I bring you back? No? Wouldn't that be fun babies!? *she laughs evilly.*
I feel as my little guests swirl around inside me, like butterflies in my stomach. I could almost blush at the thought of them dying over and over, an infinite torment much different from the one they are experiencing now. I do run this hotel! *said in a gruff, angry voice, mimicking the owner*"
*rapid shuffling of papers fills the void.*
[Ted Barrow]
*he has a slightly more monotone voice now*
"Hello. I am the Gardener of this hotel, I tend to the plants, the creatures as well. My Hotel has given me the blessing of a second choice *his voice cracks in fear* a second choice, to prove myself worthy! I am worthy of her love, she has only been kind to me... I.. I WILL!
*Sounds of him almost choking, but then it goes back to monotone.*
Here at the Hotel, the plants bring atmosphere, a touch of her spark. Without atmosphere the Hotel truly wouldn't be as perfect as it is now.
I grab a tin of water, pouring it into the foliage, the dirt grows to mud. The dirt is stained red, perhaps a body is fertilizing my crops, but I wouldn't dare question her choices, all I know is it's healthy for my babies, a good cleanup job as-well. The roots of my hands grasp around the can I am holding, sun beating down onto my neck; I thank her for the sun, without it, my plants would surely die off. As I pour out the water, I see the last drop hit the green leaves, I suppose I could refill it. I walk over to a hose, turning it up and filling my watering can once more. I don’t know why I have done this though, I shouldn’t risk overwatering my plants. So I put down the can and pick up a small shovel, it fits perfectly in my palm, my /wooden/ palm. I get down onto my knees by the dirt, and like any person with a shovel would, I start digging in the ground. The farther I dig the harder it becomes, the more the muck covers my body, the more the gore spills out. I should have put on gloves because my hands have grown sweaty and warm from the sun and the fleshy dirt. I pull out a long worm from the ground, it doesn’t look natural, but nothing here is. I flick it away with my finger *squish.*
Pathetic.
I find my destination in the ground, a nice red pooling area, I reach deep into my pocket and pull out snapdragon seeds. I suspect Madam will like them, not only for their appearance but for their name, it’s comical. She always makes me laugh. *monotone laugh.* I place three seeds into the ever so slowly growing puddle of crimson mud. Then with the shovel I had used to destroy the earth, I ever so carefully cover the seeds in fresh dirt from a bag. I pat the ground, like how a father would pat his child’s back, and then pick up that watering can.
Hm…
I sprinkle some water on top.
*the sound of water starts flooding over his voice.*
This seems.. familiar…
*it ends with an overbearing sound of water being spilt like rain.*
