I kind of hated the Sequoyah's lot. There were a lot of issues with how it functioned (sims wouldn't age?) and some other general borkedness. Plus, I wanted to alter the look a teensy bit. So, here's the kinda different kinda not rebuild of their lot.

some cool stuff i'm learning about the Cherokee language:

1. the English alphabet doesn't really capture how to correctly pronounce the different syllables

the "v" in pronunciation guides for syllables like "Ꭵ" and "Ꮸ" is not pronounced like an english "v" but rather like a "sharp u" (nasal u pronunciation. closest equivalent in English would be "ung" but like, but silence the consonants)

similarly, the "ts" sound in "Ꮸ" is pronounced more like "tch" or "tsh"

2. not every sound has a distinct character

the syllabary is just a close approximation. (using "Ꮝ" in front of "Ꭶ" instead of having a symbol for the "sga" sound, using "Ꮃ" to end a word where the root word ends with an "l" sound and has an "a" suffix). This is because writing in Cherokee is a relatively new thing-- the language didn't have an official written form until Sequoyah's syllabary was adopted in 1821.

3. inflections in tone are more important to word formation than I'm used to with English 😅

these are just my own observations early into the learning process-- feel free to add more or expand on these points if you're also learning/have learned it!

I have one spider that lives in the corner above my shower (mostly because I can’t reach this place with my vacuum). His name is Sequoyah and he understand The Rules 1) you stay away in that corner 2) you eat the bugs 3) YOU STAY IN THAT CORNER.

He is the third spider to live there. Only one did not follow the rules and funnily enough it was not my vacuum but my cat that sealed his fate. Sequoyah does a good job.

POST-COLONIALISM ARTWORK 2 This artwork is titled Commodity, by Cherokee artist Roy Boney Jr, and was made on acrylic on board in 2010. This work is a recognition of the influences that settler colonialism and capitalism had on Cherokee people, leaving them feeling used and commodified. This is in part to the colonial attempted erasure of their culture, but also to the theft and eventual destruction of their land due to growing industrialization and the improper use of natural resources which is heavily tied into product commodification.   The yellow background serves to bring compositional focus to the shoe Roy draws to the eye through a linear perspective from the right corner, depicted in vivid detail the shoe is easily observed and representative of popular footwear brand Converse, but instead of the customary company logo Roy paints the Cherokee Seal, approved in 1871, the seal is meant to signify “early government structure, and the eternal endurance of Cherokee Indians” (Five Civilized Tribes). In the middle of the seal rests a seven-pointed star, representing both the seven clans of the Cherokees as well as the seven characters of Sequoyah’s syllabary (Five Civilized Tribes). Surrounding the star is a wreath of oak leaves, meant to signify the sacred fire that the Cherokee people kept burning in their land (Five Civilized Tribes). As another artist who chooses to merge contemporary culture with traditional Cherokee culture, Roy Boney Jr. is emphasizing the effects that settler-colonialism has had on Cherokee people – through visual recognition. This painting shows the connections between settler-colonialism and capitalism in regard to how product commodification is easily associated in relation to how people are commodified, through the exploitation of labor and unfair labor practices, as well as emphasizing the relationship between government and corporation in contemporary times.

I find it hilarious that people get weirded out when I tell them I named myself Sequoyah primarily because

1. the name is very beautiful

2. Because Sequoyah was an iconic man within my nations history

(quick summary from his wiki if you don't know who Sequoyah, aka George gist was)

"Sequoyah (Cherokee: ᏍᏏᏉᏯ, Ssiquoya,[a] or ᏎᏉᏯ, Se-quo-ya;[b] c. 1770 – August 1843), also known as George Gist or George Guess, was a Native American polymath of the Cherokee Nation. In 1821, he completed his independent creation of the Cherokee syllabary, making reading and writing in Cherokee possible. His achievement was one of the few times in recorded history that an individual who was a member of a pre-literate group created an original, effective writing system. His creation of the syllabary allowed the Cherokee nation to be one of the first North American Indigenous groups to have a written language.[2] Sequoyah was also an important representative for the Cherokee nation, by going to Washington, D.C. to sign two relocations and trading of land treaties."

Anyway people get weirded out when I tell them this, (probably because I mostly look white)

But it humors me that choosing the name of a real human person, who was an amazing talented man who forever changed the way we communicate our language and even influences a few other languages, is considered strange and bizarre,

meanwhile my dead name is from the twilight movie. Yes. My older sibling saw my newborn fleshy body and said "let's name her after a twilight character"
