Here's an introduction to some of the residents of Octopia! One of the main goals of Welcome To Octopia is to draw attention to how the Octarians are individuals and fully fleshed out people rather than just soldiers, so here's the appearances, personalities and struggles of some of the background characters!
-Odelia
An Octoball who hates the stereotypes that octoballs are small and helpless, so puts on a cool and independent persona to combat this. Also opts to walk around on her legs whenever she can, rather than rolling around or being carried, even if it's harder.
-Ollie
One of the very few babies in Octopia, since the birth rate is so low (this may be important information for future chapters *winks*). No-one really knows how to take care of him, since all the caretakers have already left the domes, so he just gets passed around from person to person so they can play with him and feed him.
-Oswald
An Octotrooper, usually an upbeat and friendly guy, but he's been feeling a bit depressed ever since he contracted a disease that makes his skin itchier and his tentacles droop. It's nothing too serious, but with almost no medical resources in Octopia, he is forced to live with it, so secretly he's desperate to escape to the surface in search of a cure.
-Oswin
A tentakook who is calm and contented, no longer skittish and fearful as he was when he was a soldier. Nowadays he works as a farmer, arguably the most important job in Octopia. Though he struggles sometimes with limited crops, he is much more cheerful now that he's not in the ranks of the army.
-Orion
An Octostamp who works as a waiter, he is old enough to have trained to be a soldier but too young to have actually fought against the New Squidbeak Splatoon. He is eager to learn about anything and everything, and always kicks up a friendly conversation with those he serves.
-Olga
One of only two Twintacle Octotroopers that isn't one of Four's bodyguards, as she's still only a teenager. Though she's too young to have ever been in a battle, she's just as grumpy and determined as any Twintacle, and is one of the only residents in Octopia to openly despise staying in the domes, wanting to leave and explore the surface.
-Oscar
A child Octocopter, who is so young that he hasn't had any combat training whatsoever, though he longs to fly like his older peers used to. Unfortunately for him, there's almost no flying technology left in Octopia, so he has to settle for his propellor hat.
-Olympia
A sassy Octotrooper who mainly hangs out with Odelia and Olga. Though her rebellious nature shines through, she is content to stay underground for a while longer as she's secretly afraid of leaving everything she's ever known and starting again in a completely unfamiliar place. She cut the tip of her tentacle off for a cool hairdo, though this did not turn into a child as this only happens when an Octoling cuts their hair. Olga looks up to her and cut her hair in a similar way to be more like her.
-Otto
One of only a few Octocommanders left, he is quiet and caring, and loves nothing more than hanging out with his friends. He desperately wants to leave the past behind, as he hated being a soldier and rejected the offer to work as a protector of Octopia. (Yes, this is the Octocommander that Neo Three sees which causes her to feel guilty about splatting the Octocommanders in Chapter 2 and crashes into the wall)
I even doodled that one scene in Chapter 5!

I may make some more Octoling characters in the future, but I wanted to focus on the Octarians as they're overshadowed more often.
Btw, you can do whatever you want with these characters, whether it's related to Welcome To Octopia or not! Just make sure to credit me if you do ^_^

SPLATOON OC DUMP!!
A lot of this stuff is art from last year but I still wanna share it!!
introducing...
O.K.T.P.S! OCTARIAN KILLER TUNE PRODUCTION SQUAD!
An organised collective of ex-soldiers from Octavio's army, all with one goal - To show all these surface-dwelling inklings what's what!!
As long as they have their harsh techno sounds and funky grooves, nobody can stop them! These tunes are headed for world domination!
MEET THE SQUAD!
AMANA (she/her) - the bassist. tired and moody.
-Amana fondly remembers her years in the army with her fellow troops as they fought around the time in the first game. In the aftermath of the calimari inkantation however, there was a massive rise in escapees, fugitives and rebels who revolted against Octavio. Amana's team was tasked with capturing/suppressing this resistance, but one by one, as they dealt with rebel groups, Amana lost all but one of her friends - whether that be to the conflict or joining the crowd.
-Eventually staying in the army was too much for her, so she too headed to the surface. despite her internal resentment and loyalty to octo society, she was keen to start a better life, and that would start with her music.
-Amana is kinda like that emo war veteran in those action movies idk
KURUMA (he/him) - the drummer! Foul-mouthed and rebellious
-he's a bit of a crazy goofball who likes the idea of breaking the rules but doesnt have all of the guts to follow through with it
-he was enlisted as an aoctoling soldier alongside his bff (and crush) Hokkia - his friend would made up for the guts he didnt have so they both worked as a duo as troublemakers
-some time After the events of the first game Hokkai was reported missing whilst on a patrol. Upon hearing this, Kuruma volunteered to help search for him. After 2 months Kuruma was left as the only one still looking for him- one day Kuruma had gone out and searched for Hokkai for so long that he had been separated from his fleet and also reported missing. From there he had to find his way up to the surface in order to survive and continue looking
-once kuruma reached the surface, he resorted to making a living off of his percussion skills, which he used to practice alongside Hokkai. Due to these memories he was very passionate about his playing, which allowed him to make a living out of busking for a while until he met Amana, Moyebi and Caramote
(Hokkai was actually captured and sanitized by Tartar but Kuruma hasnt found this out yet)
CARAMOTE (they/them) - The chill, confident guitarist
-Octocommander
-moyebi's closest friend. Gives them advice and stands up for them
-they can come off as very sassy and bitchy to strangers but supports their bandmates till the end
-never wanted to be in the army but were pressured into it due to their good tongue-guitar skills which allowed them to use commander weapons
-they always had a secret obsession with the surface and its customs - From the trendy clothes to the inkling's freedom of expression. Caramote was sick of following orders, and wanted to use their tongue not for shooting, but for playing sick guitar licks. The only thing keeping them around was Moyebi, who depended on them. But after the mass exodus caused by the inkantation, they were ready to get out of there. They convinced Moyebi to come along and together, they started a new band and a new life on the surface.
MOYEBI (she/they) - The singer/leader of the band! Sweet, but nervous...
- Twintacle octarian
- singer/keyboard player for the band O.K.T.P.S.
-They served behind the lines in the octarian army as a mechanic for weapons and armour making
-whilst friendly and well-meaning, they often come off as awkward and lack self-confidence in their music and engineering
-They created a metal suit to emulate a humanoid body, and use it to create more of a stage presence. Although she feels more confident in it, Sometimes she feels like she relies on it too much to try and fit in.
-After experiencing the calamari inkantation, she couldn't help but be inspired and embrace a passion for singing. Her new dream was to sing and dance much like the squid sisters had done, but the only way she could acheive such a dream was by escaping to the surface, which was NOT about to do any time soon. The thought of leaving the comfort of her home terrified her. She had to be dragged along in an escape by her best friend, Caramote, before seeking out a new life outside the army.

dametameta dynamic in 21 + 3 different aus teeny and I have developed. why?? idk it was just fun. also I'm insane
Pokemon: childhood friends that had a major falling out as teens as a result of an incident that caused the loss of DMK's eye. MK went on to become the Indigo Plateau champion while DMK got wrapped up in Team Rocket grunt work. DMK fell on hard times when his faction of Rocket was dissolved and left him unemployed. in a desperate and poorly thought out attempt at making money from ransom I guess, DMK kidnaps the Indigo champion, not knowing his true identity until he has him tied up in his apartment. This is their reunion after like 15 years apart
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: The same except MK is magicked away to PMD world before the kidnapping, with DMK following sometime after. MK keeps his identity hidden from DMK out of desire to "start over" and mend their friendship, but it leads to trouble
SCP: MK is the leader of MTF Iota-8 ("Meta Knights") and DMK is a transdimensional shapeshifter employed by the Foundation as a member of MK's squad. MK is a human with anomalous super healing as a result of a scip incident and DMK "respawns" from his native mirror dimension whenever he suffers mortal harm, making them both prime candidates for dealing with especially dangerous scips. DMK is kind of a flirt but MK is like anomaly-racist and rather cold with him. He gets better though
LISA The Painful: MK is a stealth trans man living in isolation and DMK is a pathetic junkie that broke into his home looking for drugs. They become unlikely friends and eventually set out in search of an antidote after DMK takes Joy on a bad day
The Legend of Zelda: MK is Sheikah and DMK is a member of the Yiga clan. DMK joined the clan out of disillusionment with the Sheikah/humanity as a whole - he gets pushed around and picked on a lot and doesn't really get along with the other Yiga, but is scared to leave because of their reputation with deserters. MK, who DMK formed a friendly rivalry turned unlikely friendship with, aids in his escape from the clan after which they continue to travel together
Final Fantasy 14: MK, tenth son in a family of moon keepers, is a gladitorial champion turned Paladin that joins the Scions and other WoLs in A Realm Reborn. DMK is an ex-Nunh turned ex-criminal turned ex-rogue sun seeker with a comically depressing life that joins the crew in Heavensward after becoming a Dark Knight. They butt heads, a lot, but have an uncanny synergy despite it that makes them the designated party tanks for (almost) the entire story
Splatoon: Both Octolings that once served in the Octarian army, now living in Inkopolis. DMK, already kind of lazy and self serving, adapted to the fun-loving Inkling lifestyle pretty quickly, but MK, an ex-elite, has trouble moving on and adjusting. MK is an inkbrush/splatana wiper main and DMK is an octobrush/splatana stamper main
mostly D&D based with some creative liberties: Both tieflings cursed in different ways by the same god of violence and hedonism. MK, a paladin whose god was usurped by Mr. Murder, now forced to entertain his violent whims else he suffers painful Side Effects. DMK unknowingly picked up a bloodthirsty sword that turns him into a mindless killing machine if he doesn't cut enough people with it. They along with a few others also affected by Mr. Murder's meddling band together to get revenge
demon: MK is a demon hunting battle priest and DMK is a centuries old incubus that seduces him. DMK's demonic influence starts turning MK into one of his kind, but MK can't get rid of DMK because he's clingy due to a "recent" break up with his angel bf. over time MK accepts DMK's presence and they eventually develop a proper healthy relationship
monster: MK is a monster hunter and DMK is the bat-like beast that he's constantly trying to stop from eating everyone's sheep. When MK is mortally wounded in a battle with another monster, DMK reluctantly saves his life by sealing the wound with a sort of... sticky venom, that has the unfortunate side effect of turning MK into a monster himself
different flavour of monster: MK is a vampire hunter recently inflicted with lycanthropy and DMK is a vampire. when DMK is caught in MK's house (looking for a snack) the night of his first transformation, MK uncontrollably attacks him and literally rips him to pieces. out of guilt, MK allows DMK to feed on him the next day, starting off an uneasy but mutually beneficial arrangement
basic ass fantasy: MK is captain of the royal guard and DMK is a changeling fairy that wants his name for nefarious purposes. DMK pesters him constantly but MK is too smart for his fey bullshit, making him more of a minor nuisance than a real threat
dark fantasy soulsborne aesthetic kind of thing?: MK is a demon/monster hunter of sorts, trying to take down a particularly powerful evil priest, and DMK is another wandering hunter with another cursed sword that starts eating him alive if he doesn't give it enough blood. can you tell I like the evil sword thing for DMK? They first meet under... unfortunate circumstances, but despite their adverse relationship, they eventually team up to save someone from the aforementioned priest
cyberpunk: both orphaned as young children from different incidents of faction violence, MK grew up on the streets with a group of friends/found family and now does bounty hunting/mercenary work with them, while DMK was taken in by a faction leader and raised as his own to eventually inherit his underground empire. after a botched assassination attempt on DMK, DMK gets dear old dad to spare MK's life and have him indentured as a bodyguard instead because he thought it was really hot how he tried to kill him
fish: MK is a marine biologist that periodically runs into DMK, a bull shark merman, while doing field work. one day while out at sea, a storm flips his boat leaving him to drown in the rough waters if not for DMK's interference. DMK saves him by turning him into one of his own... oh i guess that's another thing we like huh
space: MK is of an endangered alien species, disguised as a human living on a large space station to observe, study, and live in safety. DMK is his assigned bunk mate and uh... he's just kind of a guy idk it's been a while since we touched this one
sweet home inspired not-zombie monster apocalypse kind of thing: they are apartment neighbours, DMK a single dad and MK often hosting his kid cousin. they don't get along because DMK plays loud music and stomps around in his fuckass boots, but their kids are friends so they put up with each other. they eventually find common ground and become friends themselves, even risking their lives for each other and their kids when the monster shit starts happening
urban fantasy devi magi: in a world with humans, magi (gifted humans with magic abilities), and devi (monstrous invaders that settled into the world long ago), they're on a team of hunters that take care of dangerous devi. DMK is the newest member and sole human on the team and MK is half devi. they had worked together previously, terminating in an incident where MK left DMK behind to pursue a target, resulting in the loss of DMK's eye, so there's a bit of a grudge present
western: MK is sheriff of a small desert town, previously leader of a gang of misguided bandits until changing their priorities to helping others, DMK is a monster hunting cowboy that left his simple farm life in search of thrills. DMK stops in town and embarrasses MK during an attack by a monster of the week, setting off a petty rivalry
evil murder god alien sex club: MK works at the titular club trying to raise money to take care of a deathly ill family member, and DMK is a lonely loser with a lot of inheritance money to blow that spends a lot of time at the bar and paying for MK's attention. after finding out MK's situation, DMK tries to help get him out, but the murder god in the basement running the place isn't interested in letting go any employees
farming sim! yay!: MK is the town blacksmith and DMK owns a ranch. they probably have some weird grudge with each other and sexual tension you know how it is. this au is like a week old gimme a break
isolated dynamics that don't really have a whole au to go with them:
1: DMK is a woodsman living in an isolated cabin off the grid, hiding from conviction for a murder he may or may not be responsible for, MK is grievously injured in the woods and taken in by DMK while he recovers. they develop an intimate relationship, but things start to get weird as MK starts to recover and hears about an escaped convict on the radio
2: MK is a city boy with an upper class family and DMK is a simple farm boy living with his aging mother. MK, bored with his life, would sneak out as a teen and get into tussles with DMK for kicks. after a long absence due to moving away, MK, as an adult, now sneaks out to go hunting. they reunite when DMK discovers him after he is poisoned and paralyzed, taking him home to help him recover
3: sort of kirby canon headcanon backstory swap. DMK is adopted by an upper class family and grows up pampered and educated and scrawny. MK grew up feral, never made any friends, retained his more animalistic traits and now lives in a shack in the woods. MK travels to the mirror world to beat up DMK just for existing and sheltered DMK finds the beatdown so shocking and impressive and weirdly hot that he becomes fixated on besting MK in battle to get his attention/approval
common themes:
some kind of rivalry, grudge, or opposition, turned attraction turned romance (duh) usually with ~History~
working together against a common enemy despite not really getting along
DMK evil sword
MK usually responsible for DMK's eye
MK usually some kind of authority or upper class man with a secret rebellious wild side or past
DMK usually lower class, often a farm boy, sometimes just a fucking loser
DMK being some kind of monster/anomaly and targeting MK
one being injured or down on their luck and being taken care of
MK attacks DMK and DMK thinks it's hot because he's a freak

Splatoon Idol OCs - Friendly Fire Duo
So I tried out a Splatoon idol generator and got these two - Cream the Inktoling and Rocky the Octoling.
Cream's name is from "whipped cream." She uses she/they pronouns and is female. Their theme is mainly cake.
Rocky's name is from "rocky road ice cream." She uses she/her pronouns and is trans MtF. Her theme is mainly ice cream. She served in the Octarian army until she met Cream.
Despite their rivalry, Cream and Rocky love making pop songs together. Even though they fight a lot, they're somewhat inseparable.
In squidtopus form, Cream has a squid head with a cake on top. She also has four tentacles, two resemble squid "arms" while two resemble octopus tentacles.
In octopus form, Rocky has the form of a playable Octoling's octopus form. She also has an ice cream cone on her head in octopus form.
Cream and Rocky took the place of Pearl and Marina during the latter two's tour and the events of Side Order.

AAAAA SO GLAD YOU LIKE THEM!!! They're part of a fic I'm writing, 'Welcome To Octopia', which is like 50% villain Agent Four AU and 50% justice for the Octarians! But they're only side characters for now so you don't have to read the full thing to understand stuff about them - just know that Octopia is the last intact dome that has been made into a paradise for Octarians by Four.
I'll just copy and paste their lore here for you to read :3
-Odelia
An Octoball who hates the stereotypes that octoballs are small and helpless, so puts on a cool and independent persona to combat this. Also opts to walk around on her legs whenever she can, rather than rolling around or being carried, even if it's harder.
-Ollie
One of the very few babies in Octopia, since the birth rate is so low.
I also made a new character recently: Oakleigh, an Octohurler mechanic!

I can't get enough of these guys so I'm probably gonna make more soon (probably more Octolings as well. In fact I do have two made for the fic already but this post is quite long at this point). The obsession is taking full control of me hahaha
Anyways thank you so much for letting me ramble about them!! It's so nice to see someone else who loves the Octarians so deeply <3
HELLO FELLOW OCTOLING/OCTARIAN ENJOYER :D
I bring a peace offering of Octarian goobers for your approval

I made a post about their backstories but it's a lot of information so I'll spare you the ramble
I hope they bring you great joy :)
OH MY COD?? ARE THOSE... NON-OCTOLING OCTARIAN OCS? /POS i never thought i'd see the day...
Tako APPROVES! And I'll even add this: feel free to ramble about them!!! I'm completely normal about the octarian army (LIE) and i'd LOVEEE to hear about your octarian OCs! They do bring me great joy :3

Unwanted House Guest: Valentine’s Run - Part 3
Based on the video games Splatoon, Splatoon 2, and Splatoon 2: Octo Expansion by Nintendo.
And includes a cameo of a character created by @tamarinfrog , @searching-for-bananaflies , @cafe-cardamari , @bottledupcomic , and more!
———————————
Twenty minutes earlier, in the Salmon Run Ladies Changing Rooms, a slightly older Octoling girl had just finished styling a younger Octoling’s tentacles into a ponytail.
<There you go,> said the older of the two girls, <All done.>
<Thanks, Nalini,> the younger Octoling said with a smile to her older sister.
<Ready for your first Salmon Run?> Nalini asked.
<Well...> the younger Octoling hesitated. <...kind of. I’m a little nervous, though.>
<Don’t you worry, Lajni,> Nalini said with a smile, <I’ll keep you safe.>
Lajni gave a warm smile back to her older sister just as another Octoling with an Afro barged in with a self-assured grin on his face. <Not to worry, sis!> the boy boasted, <I’ll take care of those Salmonids so fast, you won’t even know they’re there!>
The two girls’ faces blushed a crimson red as they rushed towards the Octoling boy. <AADI! WHAT ARE YOU DOING!? THIS IS THE LADIES ROOM!> Nalini shouted as she began to drag the boy out.
<YEAH! You can’t be in here!> Lajni said as she pushed against her older brother.
<Okay! Okay! I get it! You can get your hands off me!> Aadi complained.
The door to the Ladies Changing Room opened with a shove as Nalini dragged Aadi out by his shirt collar. The three were now all dressed and ready to go, but Nalini still had a few words to say.
<You’re lucky no one else was in there, otherwise you would have been in even more trouble!> Nalini scolded, <Don’t you know it’s rude to enter places you aren’t supposed to be in!?>
<I’M SORRY ALREADY!> Aadi whined, <How else was I supposed to check on you!? You two we’re taking forever in there!>
<You could have texted us from your OctoPod!> pointed out Nalini.
Aadi looked like he had just been hit over the head with an epiphany, <Oh... right! I forgot about that!>
Nalini sighed and looked at her two younger siblings. While Lajni was fourteen, and Aadi was fifteen, the two of them still acted like little kids. A smile spread over Nalini’s face as she remembered what brought them all here today.
At seventeen, Nalini was the oldest of the three siblings and had taken it upon herself to look after her beloved little brother and sister. After the first failed attempt to capture the Great Zapfish, and after escaping from his snow globe prison, D.J. Octavio began recruiting Octarians left and right. Nalini signed up for training to become an Octoling soldier in hopes of supporting Lajni and Aadi and keeping them from having to serve in the Octarian Army.
Before Nalini completed her training to enter active combat, D.J. Octavio’s plans were thwarted and he was defeated a second time. Soon after, the influence of the Squid Sisters and their music spread throughout Octarian society; moving the hearts of many. Even though D.J. Octavio had kidnapped and brainwashed Callie, one of the Squid Sisters, she bore no ill will towards the Octarians and made great efforts to foster peace between them after her rescue. Finally, the Tartar Sauce incident brought Inklings and Octolings together against a common enemy; forging a new era of peace and prosperity for both species.
Nalini never completed her training, and deep down, she was glad that she didn’t. She could now spend more time with her family and take comfort knowing that Lajni and Aadi would never have to fight in a Great Turf War like their ancestors did. The three Octoling siblings even began making trips to Inkopolis to make new friends and try new things. It was a good time to be alive.
Unfortunately, taking care of two younger siblings required money. While the Turf War League was the best way for kids and young adults to make money in Inkopolis Square, Nalini wasn’t comfortable with it since she couldn’t stand the thought of slinging ink against fellow Octolings, or even Inklings. The Grizzco Salmon Runs, however, let Nalini put the training she received to good use, and make some money without raising a weapon against her people or the people that made up her new friends.
After four Salmon Runs, Nalini still hadn’t made much money, and her younger brother and sister were eager to help her in her work so that they could get by. Lajni just turned fourteen, and Aadi had been wanting to show off what he could do ever since he was twelve. This was going to be Nalini’s fifth Salmon Run, and the first for Aadi and Lajni.
The three Octolings stepped onto the Spawn Point that would launch them to the Grizzco boat that was off the shore of Marooner’s Bay. Lajni, feeling a little nervous, took Nalini’s hand in hers and held on to it with a little squeeze. Nalini squeezed back to let her sister know everything was going to be okay. A few seconds later, the spawn point powered on and launched the three Octolings to their destination.
In what seemed like no time at all, the three Octolings appeared on a different spawn pad several miles away from where they started. Lajni felt a little woozy and clutched her sister’s hand tighter than before to make sure she didn’t fall down. As she regained her bearings, she took a look at who her older brother and sister were staring at. In front of them was a tall, lanky Inkling with purple tentacles. He was wearing the exact same uniform they were wearing and had a no-nonsense expression. His eyes widened when he saw the three siblings and Lajni thought she saw the color drain from his face.
Lajni stepped behind her sister, feeling embarrassed that she didn’t know how to speak Inklish. Aadi did the same as Nalini was the only one who had studied it, and she wasn’t entirely fluent either. The eldest of the three Octolings swallowed hard as she extended a slightly nervous hand in greeting.
“Heh-“ Nalini stuttered. “Hello. I am Nalini. It is... pleasure to meet you.”
The tall Inkling reached out, firmly clasped Nalini’s hand in theirs, and gave it a hearty shake. His grip wasn’t too tight or too loose, and his shake could be measured as precisely in the middle of the two extremes: “trying to tear your arm off” and “I don’t even care enough about this greeting to move a muscle”. It was, for all accounts, a genuine handshake. Nalini would have felt more reassured by it if not for the Inkling’s slasher smile that was stretched across their face and the shrunken pupils.
“HI!” he said loudly with a hint of madness. “I’M SCREWED SIX WAYS FROM SUNDAY! PLEASED TO MEET YOU!”
...To Be Continued...

The Spicy Calamari Inkantation was still ringing in Carice’s ears, even as she dashed to her quarters in the barracks. The surrounding sounds were drowned out by her breathing, the pounding of her hearts, and her boots hitting the damp pavement. She had never been averse to crowds, however as the impromptu concert came to an end she found herself pushing her way through dazed and confused Octarians.
She needed space, she needed time, and she needed quiet. All to think, to go over what was tumbling about in her brain. Although her head felt clearer than it had for years, a storm of confusion and indecision was brewing deep within her mind. Her body felt light as a feather, and yet her mind felt as heavy as a ton of bricks.
In what felt like no time at all, she had made it to the barracks and fled to her room. The building was surprisingly empty--usually someone would be around to keep an eye on things, or resting after performing their duties... It was likely due to the streets being so full from the grand battle that DJ Octavio had called everyone to see. However, now it was clear that the outcome was one that the emperor never saw coming.
He was defeated in battle. Agent 4, the perky little Octoling that had sided with the enemy had knocked his crown off, got her allies into the dome, reclaimed Callie’s voice, nabbed the Great Zapfish, and took the Octo Emperor into custody.
Everything was in place for the Octolings to want to stage revenge, and yet...
Carice looked to her hands. While she would have normally felt the urge to rally up some troops and dive head-first into the Squidbeak’s base, for the first time in her life she didn’t feel as though she needed to spring into action. She frowned and pressed her back against the door, heaving a sigh.
It was as if she could breathe easy for the first time in her life, but that felt so wrong to her. She knew she should do something about the problematic Inklings and their antics to take the precious Zapfish away, however she felt such a lack of need to go and free their emperor. The conflict stewing in her mind made her stomach feel like an unsteady tempest. Until now, she had an undying loyalty to Octavio. A compulsion to serve him, and do whatever it took to help her homeland and people.
What made the difference, now?
Shuffling over to her bunk bed, she flopped unceremoniously onto the stiff lower mattress. She found herself humming the same song she had heard in that stadium just minutes before, breaking the dead quiet of the quarters. It was a good song, and it had wormed its way into her ears like no tune before it.
Carice slipped her shades off of the bridge of her nose, and held them at arm’s length above her head. As she stared into the dark frames, she wondered why she and the others had been wearing these and those bulky goggles for so long. Fashion? A sense of unity? Practicality? She felt like there was a significant reason, but whatever it was had completely lost its edge. Her hands fell to her sides, the frame of the shades still held between her right finger and thumb.
She continued wondering, her mind getting dangerously close to thoughts she never could have imagined before. Could the Octarians manage without Octavio to push progress? They did survive without him for two years, but it wasn’t as if the domes were getting any better in his absence. But with Octavio’s focus on making Octo Weapons and Bosses, were the domes improving much with him around, anyway?
His aggression and frustration with the Inklings were both pushing himself and his people towards war... When most simply wanted peace. Even still, the Inklings weren’t making things any easier, and even when Octavio was out of commission, Carice had to aggressively protect the people that lived in the crumbling domes.
Carice grunted. She pressed her left palm against her forehead and screwed her eyes shut, her nose wrinkling with mild frustration. She wanted to help the Octarians that lived here. She wanted them to live in comfort, to have the sun grace their faces. But what of Octavio? He wanted to take the surface by force. Surely, that could get them what they wanted. But maybe Octavio’s desire for war was... Wrong.
And maybe her loyalty wasn’t to Octavio, but to the Octarians themselves.
If he were to return again, wouldn’t they just keep doing the same thing? Continue to make weapons and steal Zapfish to power them? It hadn’t worked for the past 100 years, what would make the difference now?
But.. All the same, could they really reach the surface without a fight? Carice couldn’t hope to know. Her knowledge of the surface was limited at best, only able to steal glances of it now and again. She knew it was beautiful. She knew it was something to fight for, if need-be... But...
If one cephalopod from the surface could stand to face groups of Octarians alone, she dreaded to think of what it could be like to face an entire army of them.
Shifting slightly, she opened her eyes and stared at the bunk above her. There simply wasn’t an easy answer to this. Her ink felt cold, and now her body was feeling as heavy as her mind. She looked back to the shades held in her hand.
With her thumb she rubbed at a smudge at the edge of the lenses, her brow creasing slightly. What was she to do? Was there anyone else that had felt the same way that she had? She slipped the shades back over her face and rested both hands over her stomach. She considered calling one of her teammates, someone she knew she could trust.
But, she hesitated. Perhaps she should keep this to herself. She was at such a high rank, and held so much respect that she couldn’t stand to have her peers and subordinates see her in a weakened state--especially not after the events of today. There was no room for doubt right now. So why was it that she couldn’t shake her own?
Suddenly, a message came through her shade’s radio, causing her to jump upright in an instant, “Carice!” a voice came through, “Squidbeak Agents 3 and Craig Cuttlefish have been found near the egg processing plant! Backup needed!”
“Copy,” she replied flatly, “I’ll be there in a snap.” Carice sprung to her feet and flew out the door, grabbing an Octoshot and a few Burst Bombs on the way out of the barracks. She had rarely been to the egg processing plant, but she knew how important Power Eggs were to the Octarians.
There was no time to dwell on confused thoughts. One thing was certain: she wasn’t going to let yet another Agent take their other supply of power. If they lost those Power Eggs, it’d spell a disaster for her people! As she rushed to the plant, she tried to shove her own thoughts out of her mind.
Until now, that was always such an easy task...
-----
Thousands of eggs, hundreds of fish. Agent 3 wasn’t at all prepared for what he had seen within the deepest part of the Octarian’s egg processing plant.
At first, it was what he had expected; Power and Golden Eggs being counted, sorted, and processed to be used for energy, and even food for Zapfish. 3 had found this to be more than enough information to relay back to Orabella, the Salmonid who had hired him to collect this information... However, that was until he had found something much more.
Secret entry ways, hidden paths. Skeletons hidden within the belly of the beast, just barely out of reach for the average Inkling. But Agent 3 was no longer your average, every-day squid.
Leaving Cuttlefish to keep watch above, Agent 3 followed after some workers, doing his best to keep hidden. He tried to say close enough to slip between pipes and security that only got more intense the further in they went. He had to weave through machinery, scramble behind walls, and stay in his squid form more than half the time. His hearts were pounding so loudly that he was sure that the Octarians would have been able to hear him...
Finally, when the Octarians reached their destination, 3 hung back for a few minutes, hiding within some pipes to ensure that the coast was clear before he decided to take a look around. The room was spacious and round, and had a walkway that wrapped all the way around the outer wall. A series of doors lined the metal walkway, and at the other end of the room was a set of stairs that led down to the open center. The fluorescent lights above buzzed, leaving the walkway just bright enough to navigate.
Slinking out of his hiding place, 3 looked this way and that before eventually peering over the walkway’s edge, and into the deepest part of the room. There were a series of tubes, all of which were filled with a golden liquid and glowed warmly in the dim lighting.
His ink turned cold when he managed to make out the shape of a handful of them. Were those... Salmonids? The agent hesitated, his brow creasing and his tentacles tensing. They didn’t look quite... Right.
Double-checking his surroundings again, his hearts nearly jumped out of his throat when he heard someone exiting a room nearby. Without thinking twice he slipped through the railing in his squid form, and landed on a crate below with a mighty plop! He hastily hid himself behind the crate, straining his ears for any sign that he had been seen or heard... He could hear the confusion of the Octoling above, however it seemed that, for now, he had avoided detection.
Still, he waited a few minutes before peering over the crate. Eyes widening, he was shocked at what he found within the tubes. It... Was a Salmonid, that much was true. But it looked as though it were growing arms and legs in place of its pectoral and pelvic fins. The others were much the same but at different stages. Some had hands. Some had differently shaped faces. Some lacked tails completely. A few shifted and twitched within their tubes.
3′s mouth had gone dry. He remembered Cuttlefish hearing rumors that the Octarians were working with someone on biological experiments... An external help to make Octotroopers into Octolings. But he thought that it was just on their own people, not another species entirely...!
Dumbfounded and unable to believe what he was seeing, the Inkling found himself reaching for his phone as his beak dropped. He opened the camera, and with trembling hands, he started to take a series of pictures of these odd-looking Salmonid experiments. Without a doubt, this was something Orabella had to see.
After the third or fourth picture, 3 nearly jumped out of his skin when he heard the cry of a nearby Octarian. He looked over and saw a group of them, each with an Octoshot wrapped up in their tentas. He nearly dropped his phone as he scrambled to get out of their firing range.
Ripping his radio out of his jacket, 3 cried into the speaker, “Code red, I’ve been spotted! Get moving!” the radio spat out static and 3 swore, however he had no time to confirm if Cuttlefish could have heard him this deep below.
Now grabbing his Hero Shot, 3 had to defend himself as he scrambled past Octarians, gathering Octolings, and security measures. Inking himself a path, he swam through to the other end of the room, trying to focus more on his escape instead of the oddities within the tubes that surrounded him.
Throwing a bomb up over the metal stairs, he skillfully skipped over a number of the steps, eyeing the scattering Octarians as the bomb exploded. Rather than trying to run past them, he grabbed hold of the railing and jumped to the other side, where it was clearer for him to make a break for it.
However that didn’t last very long, as the number of guards and attacking scientists only grew. They spilled out of the doors, attempting to impede his path or threaten him with whatever supplies and weapons they had grabbed in their haste. Skidding to a halt, 3′s gaze darted between these simple workers, and the guards gaining on him from behind. An idea sprung to mind all of the sudden as he spotted an ID tag wrapped around one of the Octarians--the same tag that the others had used to open the doors that led here.
He knew he was going to hate himself for this later...
Rushing forward, the unsuspecting Octarians shouted in surprise and started to back away, their cries only growing louder when the Inkling wrapped both arms firmly around one of the smaller lab workers. The rather scrawny Octotrooper cursed at him, squirming, kicking, and thwacking him with the blunt end of a stapler as the Agent attempted to get them locked into one arm.
The whole room seemed to freeze when the barrel of Agent 3′s Hero Shot was pressed against the side of the Octarian’s head. Sweat dripping down his brow, 3 stared at the group with a cold, hard stare. They returned his stare with equally hard, but far more worried glares. Hearts pounding away in his ears, the agent hoped that they weren’t going to call his bluff...
Backing away, he approached the door. The tension in the air was so terribly thick, that what took mere seconds felt like hours to everyone involved. The moment 3′s heel hit the door, he used the dangling ID card to open it, popped the lanyard off the Octotrooper, dropped them, and ran as fast as he could through the twisting corridors.
Through the last door, 3 was almost home free. However as he looked about to see if there were any soldiers about, he ran into someone and was sent tumbling onto the ground, a familiar voice shouting out in pain.
“Oh! My cuttlebone...!”
3 grunted and shook his head. Once it dawned on him who he had tripped over, he jumped up onto all four legs, “G-gramps?!” he cried. The old cuttlefish was sprawled on the ground, looking a bit dazed, “Oh shoot, I’m sorry!” he scrambled over to help the Captain get back up onto his legs.
Cap’n Cuttlefish wobbled a bit, pressing a hand against his back and shaking the daze out of his eyes, “Hooh! You right near gave me a heart attack, young’n!”
“S-sorry!” 3 puffed, looking around, “I thought you had already escaped...!”
“Ah, yes!!” Cuttlefish went on to say, “I found a fire escape, that should take us right outside!” with the end of his Bamboozler, he pointed the way.
“G-got it! Let’s go, now!”
-----
There were fewer Octolings ready to battle than normal. It was as if half of the soldiers hadn’t received a call to action, leaving their numbers quite thin. A number of Octarians came in their stead, but...
Carice didn’t know what to think of this. Where could everyone have gone? Did they miss the call? Were they hunting after Agent 4 and Octavio? Could they have possibly been facing the same doubts as she had?
Her boots sank into the muddy earth as she charged past her fellow soldiers, a notable sense of dread looming over their heads like a brewing storm. It was clear that they too were worried about their current numbers. Every soldier knew well that when an Agent was threatening their livelihoods, they needed to be on the defensive. Especially after what happened with Octavio earlier that afternoon.
“Ah, Carice!” a Twintacle darted up to her, flagging her down by waving a tenta in the air, “We were trying to take down the Squidbeak Soldiers when we had completely lost track of them once they got outside!” he bowed his head, tightly closing his eyes with regret, “I’m very sorry!”
“Okay.” came the Octoling’s reply, “Do you have any idea what he was doing in the processing plant?”
The Octarian hesitated, shrinking back a bit, “Um.”
An Octocommander in a lab coat spoke up quickly, “He was sticking his nose where it didn’t belong, perhaps planning to steal another source of our power.” his face grew intense, “He escaped before he managed to get his filthy tentacles on anything.”
Carice nodded, “Got it...” she mused briefly, placing a hand to her chin. She always wondered what all was in the plant, but she rarely ever looked. Power Eggs, surely, but other than to feed a Zapfish, what business did the Squidbeaks have there? She shrugged off her own questions and returned to the matter at hand, “You fought your hardest and called for backup. That’s the best thing you can do when it comes to the Agents.”
The Twintacle seemed relieved that he didn’t get chewed out for this failure. He looked up to her with a tiny smile on his purple lips. The Octocommander on the other hand, returned to the plant.
Diving straight into things, Carice squared her shoulders and took charge of the group by calling them to order. Once she had their attention she said, “We need to find those Squidbeak soldiers.” the others nodded in agreement. She pointed to a pair of Octarians, “You two patrol the surrounding area. Call us if you see anything suspicious.”
When the pair nodded in reply, she started to divide the Octolings and Octarians into groups of two to four, “Group A, you head north, group B, I’d like for you to head south.” she clapped her hands together, “Group D, head east, and group C will come with me to the west. Fan out, but keep close to each other if anything happens. ”
Carice had decided that no other Squidbeak Agent was going to get away with effective murder today. Either they were going to be driven out permanently, or they were going to be taken as prisoners. It was only fair, after all. Perhaps they could work out a deal with the remaining Squidbeak Soldiers to get their emperor back on the throne.
That was what was needed for her people, right? A strong leader that would help them get to the surface? Even now, Carice still had a cloud of doubt clogging up her thoughts. Why was she struggling with this so much?
Now, to convey this idea to her soldiers, “Try to not splat them,” she instructed, “Capture both of them, and bring them back here.” she thrust her right fist into her left palm, “If they’re going to take our leader into custody, then we’ll take theirs.” she threw a hand into the air, “Dismissed!”
The soldiers saluted and called, “Roger!” before executing their orders. With a satisfied nod, she motioned for her group to follow after her.
Carice ushered her group to fan out, and started to hunt for the Squidbeak Soldiers. Nowhere to be seen, the Inklings were always a slippery sort, squeezing between your fingers and getting away at a moment’s notice. However, it wasn’t until now that she had thought about how strange it was for Cuttlefish to be here as well. Wasn’t he always just out of reach, feeding instructions and input to his little agents? Of what she had seen of him, he was hardly in any shape to go into battle.
Inking a path she swam past her teammates, her keen, brown eyes shrewdly tracking down the bright yellow ink that Agent 3 typically had. Traces of his ink could be seen--a few signs of fights here and there from when she had initially gotten the call, but for the most part, the evidence pointed to him trying to high-tail it out of the area.
In a strange turn of events, the Octarians couldn’t help but notice that Agent 3 had started to take paths that would make it so he could avoid splatting anyone. He’d run, swim and dodge his way out of trouble nearly every time, and it made him difficult to pin down. He was quite good at subduing his opponent, but he rarely ever took the option to splat. Carice could never understand this--she knew from experience that he was a horrifically skilled fighter once he applied himself. So why was it that, even now, he took the path of the coward?
That hardly mattered. He was causing a problem, and it needed to be taken care of.
Jumping out of her ink, Carice realized she had lost the trail. Blast, where did those stinking cephalopods go?! She surveyed her surroundings, looking for any signs of oddly colored ink or out-of-place footprints. Perhaps she had gone the wrong way, and 3 had managed to give her the slip. Just her luck today... Things really were going from bad to worse. Was this planned? She almost couldn’t put it past them.
It was about time she went back to regroup. Turning back the way she came, her ears caught the sound of some voices whispering nearby. Narrowing her eyes and straining her ears, Carice tried to determine if she was just hearing things, or if the Squidbeaks were nearby. It could have also been a group of allies, however she wanted to be certain before moving on.
With careful footsteps and her gun at the ready, she crept closer to the source of the sound. Her body was tightly wound like a spring, however it seemed as though the case were the same for her targets.
Out of a nearby bush, Craig Cuttlefish sprung into view shouting, “Y-yo-you’ll not be taking me today, Octarian!” and the moment he had enough footing, he fired his Bamboozler.
Covered in rust-colored ink but no worse for wear, Carice took a few steps back and fired herself, “I found the Squidbeaks!” she barked into her radio, spurting off the coordinates with each shot she took at the old captain.
While she had nailed the older cephalopod with a few bullets, his cohort, Agent 3, appeared from the woodwork and used a tattered old cape to shield the captain from fire. He quickly ordered Cuttlefish to stay low, then threw his cape behind him, flinging red ink everywhere. Hero Shot in hand, he shot Carice a serious look before taking aim.
Diving into her ink, Carice dodged the first barrage of bullets. She sped off in the opposite direction when she heard a bomb flying towards her, flecks of ink from the explosion scattering all about. Jumping out of cover, she surveyed the area for the agent, however he was out of sight, likely hiding in ink himself.
Throwing two Burst Bombs in succession, she managed to weed him out from behind a rock, and in no time at all the two were firing at each other. Breaking herself out of the heat of the battle, she realized: she didn’t want to splat him, not just yet. Taking a few hits, she dove into her ink and hid behind a crumbled wall, ready to throw a bomb the second that 3 came near. If she could at least break his shield, he’d be easier to subdue...
A few seconds had flown by, and just as she had determined, 3 had made his way towards her. Leaping into the air she threw one Burst Bomb, which nailed him directly in the face. The Inkling shouted as his shield broke, reeling backwards as he wiped the ink and off his face and rubbed the stars out of his eyes. Now was her chance!
Gripping his armed hand with a firm grip, Carice grinned beakily when she heard the footsteps of soldiers drawing near, “Alright, Agent 3!” in his surprise of hearing Inklish, she took the opportunity to drop her own weapon and grab his free hand, “You’ve got nowhere to run!” without looking to see who had approached, she barked, “Okay soldiers! Help me bring 3 into custody! Someone go grab Captain Cuttlefish,” she used her head to motion to where the captain was hiding, “He’s in that bush, there!
It was then that she noticed the stupor on 3′s ink-stained face. He was staring wide-eyed at the soldiers behind the Octoling, a look of worry and confusion slowly creeping across his face. Blinking, Carice was tempted to demand why no one had listened to her order, but held her tongue as she glanced over her shoulder.
Those... Weren’t her subordinates.
Pale green skin, deep blue tentas tipped in a bright, acidic green, and a striking smell of cleaner that accosted Carice’s nose. A small army had suddenly surfaced out of nowhere, and they were nothing like Carice had ever seen. They certainly dressed like Octavio’s army, however it was glaringly obvious that these were not under the Octo Emperor’s ruling.
One lifted her weapon, a Splat Charger, and aimed it between 3′s eyes, “Target found.” she said with a robotic tone. The Inkling tensed.
Hearts leaping out of her chest, Carice let go of 3, throwing their arms apart in the process. She stumbled back as a bolt of fluorescent ink shot between them. Unknown soldiers and unknown ink. She had seen similar colors, but this stuff almost looked alive as it plummeted to the ground.
Meanwhile, 3 hardly hesitated to dive back into his ink. He called out to Cuttlefish to get moving, worry striking his face as he quickly realized the elder may have some trouble keeping up. His shield recovered as he swam, however he had a strange feeling that this wasn’t going to help him very much...
Confused as to what was going on, Carice wasn’t sure if she should deal with these strange soldiers, or continue after 3--
Her question was soon answered, as the Splat Charger was now targeting her. Inhaling sharply she dove into her octopus form, the strange ink dangerously close as it sailed over her head.
“Seek and destroy,” the first Octoling stated. With a nearly mechanical shout, the rest of the Octolings charged forward, splitting off into two groups; one to go after Agent 3, and one to go after Carice.
Scrambling to get her Octoshot, Carice managed to fire down a soldier that had gotten a little too close for her liking, and instead of splatting as she had expected, their body evaporated into a mess of pixels, almost like a digital glitch.
Carice’s ink turned cold. What were these?
No time to dwell on the oddity--where one had been splatted, two more were in their place. Hearts pounding, she attempted to call for backup again, dreading to think that these strange Octolings had taken out her group...
3 wasn’t fairing much better. While the captain could fight for the most part, the Bamboozler wasn’t exactly the strongest of weapons out there. In trying to take down these weird Octolings, protect Cuttlefish, and maintain his own ink levels, the Inkling found himself quickly overwhelmed by these numbers. Where were they coming from?!
In a panic, he executed a Splashdown, splatting a good number of the soldiers, and knocking back a few others. A quick reprieve, if nothing else.
“Huh?” Cuttlefish cried out of nowhere, “Look there, that girl is fighting them, too!” he pointed through the parted sea of soldiers.
Looking about, 3′s eyes eventually landed on the Octoling that had nearly trapped him. She had at least five soldiers surrounding her, and it appeared as though she had started to resort to melee moves as her ink tank depleted.
3′s brow creased, “Wait,” he huffed, slightly out of breath, “Why is she fighting them?” he continued to puff, “Aren’t they Octolings, too?”
As more soldiers approached, 3 was met with a dilemma. He had to get Cuttlefish out to safety, but, if he was being honest with himself, he couldn’t leave this girl high and dry either... Even if she was an enemy. He swore under his breath, shooting down a few more soldiers. He hadn’t any space to think, and he was almost out of ink!
“Captain!” he called, “What do we do?!”
“We run away!” the elder cried, firing his Bamboozler rapidly. He was getting much too old for this.
“But what about her?”
Cap’n Cuttlefish knew Agent 3 well. He knew that there wasn’t much point in trying to argue with him when he got an idea in his head. The boy valued the lives of the Octarians as much as he valued the lives of the Inklings--so to tell him to just abandon this struggling girl in the heat of battle was likely not something that would sit well with the young agent.
“Uh...!”
SPLAT! The sound of a direct hit of a Splat Charger rang through the area, accompanied by the sound of 3′s armor breaking. Flecks of the strange-colored ink scattered over the elder inkfish. With a look of horror in his wide eyes, he called out in shock when he saw Agent 3 toppling over. Before he could even reach out, he was swarmed by pale green hands.
Despite her efforts and best fighting, Carice stood no chance against these numbers. She was out of ink, out of bombs, out of breath, and out of time. The splotches of ink that were splattered across her skin stung, and finally, she gave in to the swarm. Her consciousness slipped away, the Calamari Inkantation ringing in her ears one last time as numerous hands and faces made her vision fade to black.

ok sorry for such a late response but in my defense. uh. idk act
heres a lengthy explanation of the evil ocho au i made a while ago (it has a happy ending wow!!!)
After being black labeled by Wireglasses, Ochos world completely shattered. He doesnt know what else to do bow since he basically revolved his life and goals around Wire and being strong, and noq that he realizes that Wire doesnt care about him like he does, hes broken.
Ocho doesnt speak to anyone after thus, and never takes the black label off his weapon even after Wire is defeated. He doesnt play any ink sports or salmon run either (during the salmon run arc ocho isnt there instead 8bit is in his place). Ocho also just thinks about whats happened to himself a lot too. He pretty much just isolates himself from everyone out of shame.
Eventually, Ocho decides to wander off in search of a new purpose in life, and stumbles upon Alterna in the crater. He searches around in Alterna, and ends up finding Mr. Grizz. Grizz, obviously taken aback by this random octoling in the Space Center, tries to attack and fuzzify him, but this fails. Sort of. Ocho does get fuzzified, but before it can affect too much of him and fully turn him, he cuts off his left arm that was affected by the ooze. Now he's partially fuzzy. His instinct and brain chemistry has changed a bit (they're more wolf-like now, but he's not completely feral) (just my personal fuzzy octoling hcs sorry) as well as his left tentacles being fuzzy now. Grizz see Ocho straight up amputate himself and is like "Woah that's crazy yknow i could use someone like you, care to join my workforce?" and Ocho's like "sure" cuz now he has a purpose! He can serve someone and be strong again! What more could he want?
So now Ocho's the general of the fuzzy army, and he even fixes some broken octarian weapons sometimes, but he's not the best so he and Grizz decide they're gonna need someone who CAN fix and make weapons better. They devise a plan.
Meanwhile in Splatsville, the big run arc has passed and stuff has mostly gone back to normal, people are doing turf wars again and there's no black labelling. Though, Barreleye and Mitsuami both feel off about how Ocho's disappeared. The others wave it off that he probably just moved to find a better place, but Barrel and Mitsu aren't convinced. Barrel, Mitsu, and Polpo meet up and talk about what's going on and Barrel and Polpo decide to go searching for Ocho.
They search the more deserted parts of Splatsville, including unpopulated areas with lots of sewer drains, and Barrel ends up getting kidnapped by a mysterious figure right in front of Polpo's eyes.
Polpo rushes back to Mitsu and tells her that her brother just got kidnapped. They try to make a plan, but they both need time to process what happened so they go their separate ways for a bit. Little did they know someone was listening to them.
During this time, Mitsu gets roped into being the new agent 3 by Cuttlefish since they got a new captain (Rider). Mitsu agrees at the moment cuz she thinks she can be neo agent 3 and help Polpo at the same time (she can't).
Yada yada Splat3 story mode happens which means Mitsu disappears for a bit cuz she's in Alterna, basically disappearing to Polpo and she thinks Mitsu also got kidnaped by the mystery figure. Polpo doesn't know what she's gonna do now since no one else knows about what's going on, except for one.
Shellmet appears and tells Polpo that she was eavesdropping on them talking about Barrel's disappearance and offers to help her search for him.
The two start searching again but outside of Splatsville instead and end up finding the crater leading to Alterna. They meet up with Mitsu and sort that stuff out and decide that Shellmet and Polpo will find a way to clear the rocket island while Mitsu does missions.
During this process, Polpo investigates one of the buildings in Happiness Research Lab (by breaking through one of the windows lol) and finds Ocho and Barrel fixing a weapon. Polpo tries to get Barrel, but after arguing with Ocho for a moment, Ocho pushes Polpo out of the window she came through.
Polpo thinks this is the end for her since she'll fall into water, but Mitsu catches her while riding on one of the riderails. They get back to Future Utopia Island and Polpo tells the others about what she saw, that Barrel was captured by Ocho and Ocho was working for Grizz now. Everyone is very worried about this, but they decide to make their way to the rocket island since they have all the treasures at that point. They do and once they get there, yada yada, Deep Cut shenanigans, Mitsu tells Polpo and Shellmet to split up in the Space Center and try to find Ocho and Barrel. They do and in one of the lab rooms, they find Barrel and guess who.
WIREGLASSES. They're both injured too (Wire more than Barrel but still), and Barrel is probably affected by the fuzzy ooze a bit (still not enough to turn him feral). Shellmet tells Polpo to go up to the launchpad while she tends to Wire and Barrel's injuries, so Polpo makes her way up to the launchpad and finds Mitsu, Callie, and Marie up there with Grizz. Grizz has that speech and stuff but at the end, he says he'd like to introduce them to the "employee of the month" and Ocho appears behind the others wielding a modified splatana. Grizz takes off on the rocket and leaves Ocho to fight the others.
Ocho challenges Mitsu to fight him, one to one, but Polpo isn't dealing with this shit and immediately attacks Ocho. Ocho gets knocked down and held at blaster-point by Polpo, then is like "you'll never take me alive!!!" and superjumps to the rocket with Grizz. Polpo and Mitsu are like "wait how did he do that isnt it in the sky how are we gonna get up there" and yayyyy Deep Cut appears and helps Mitsu and Polpo up.
They get to the rocketship and fight Mr. Grizz, but in his last phase, Ocho appears again and actually fights them. Ocho actually is starting to beat Mitsu and Polpo, but at the last moment, Mitsu says this cheesy cliche speech to Ocho and hugs him, which works somehow and snaps Ocho out of him being evil cuz "woah an actual hug that's crazy Imma not be evil anymore cuz hugs are nice"
Ocho turns to Grizz and is like "imma kill you but with the power of friendship instead" and so Ocho, Mitsu, and Polpo all beat up Grizz and then the final phase with Hugefry happens too and stuff yippie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They go back to Earth and the three have a talk about what happened and why Ocho left while on Octavio's mech suit thing. The three sort it out and land back on the ground where the rest of the NSBS, Shellmet, Barrel, and Wire are waiting for them. Ocho apologizes to Wire and Barrel and says he's probably just gonna stay in Alterna or something, but Mitsu's like "nah you're coming back up to Splatsville to get therapy" so they go back up.
Ocho realizes that when he has friends by his side instead of paid workers and isn't serving anyone, he's much happier. Ocho even starts getting back into turf wars and becomes a splatana stamper main. He also obviously gets help and gets better mentally.
Maybe everything will be ok after all.
The end
ok thats it
everyone should show me their evil coroika aus (of any character) so they can all meet my evil goggles(es) and have an evil time together
#if this sounds familiar to you galax thats because a few months back i sent in an ask to your coroangst confessions blog#but might as well put it here too yippie#yeah i aint going anywhere with this au it now just exists for me to think about once in a blue moon#coroika

How to Start the Single Player Campaign in Splatoon 3?
Splatoon 3 is finally here! The popular Nintendo ink-shooter in its best version so far contains a huge number of modes and maps for online competitive matches, but also a lot of additional fun content. Similar to the previous entries in the series, in Splatoon 3 we have a single-player mode in which players use their skills to finish the levels full of challenges and even bosses in the style of classic single-player games. If you wonder how to access a single-player campaign in Splatoon 3, check out the guide below.
How to Start the Single Player Campaign in Splatoon 3?
Like most things in Splatoon 3, you can’t simply select the single-player campaign from the menus, you have to find the entrance in the Splatsville hub town first. Go to the main square – Splatsville main square, marked “Square” on the map you open with the X button. Once there, while facing the big double stairs, on the left side in the corner you will spot a manhole cover, position yourself right above it and press ZL to enter. By entering the sewers you will find yourself in Alterna Crater where the introduction to the single-player story begins.
Return of the Mammalians is a single-player mode in Splatoon 3 where players explore a crater in Alterna while fighting an Octarian army, wearing an upgradeable Hero Suit. The campaign begins with four introductory stages that serve as a kind of tutorial, with a boss battle at the end, after which the real campaign begins with the title screen after which players are transferred to the icy Alterna region, where they will go through many challenging single-player levels split into 6 sites.

🕷️📣📸💢melone, bruno, and celia
💢 ANGER - what are some habits they have that will take some getting used to?
Hmm that's a hard one for all of them. Like is this meaning general habits or is it for habits when in anger? Emoji and question correlation is not great. I'll still answer it as best I can though.
Melone I can say her habits would that she doesn't really listen to people all that often. She'll do her own thing more often then not though she's smart enough to know whether or not to listen to said person.
Bruno would probably be looking for potiental weapons in an area. He was once a gang enforcer after all, so figuring out improviced weapons for the given situation is something that he's intergrated in a subconcious level. He's getting better about it but old habits die hard.
Celia though is tricky. Not sure what would be a habit for her per say so I'll leave it blank for now.
🕷️ SPIDER - what is their biggest fear? do they have any irrational / mundane fears?
In Bruno's case it would be his past as a gang member catching up to him being a big fear of his. Though he was one of the 'better' members (aka nice to a given degree), he was still a gang member at the end of the day. So unintentially or not, he's made some enemies. Mundane wise though not very much can spook him.
Celia in her case she doesn't really have a big fear, though she is afraid of horror movies to a minor degree.
Melone's biggest fear is being forced to back into Octarian society. It wasn't fun having to serve in the army. She does not like being to forceably serve people while not under her own power, hypno shades being her biggest fear. In addition to that brainwashing in general is a minor fear of hers. While she tends to know better that inklings do that sort of thing as mostly cheap jokes, there's always that nagging feeling in her head that thinks 'what if though?'
📣 MEGAPHONE - how loud are they? what do they speak like? got a voice claim?
Celia and Bruno aren't very loud. Bruno's more on the quiet side compared to Celia though. As for what they speak like I'm gonna assume that means accent or whatever, so in that case I have no idea what each of them would be like in that case.
Melone on the other hand is prone to raising her voice with enthusiasm and such.
As for voice claims, these could be outdated since I made a draft post for it back in 2020 of September, but it goes as follows:
Bruno: Sojiro Sakura (Persona 5)
Melone: Nora Valkyrie (RWBY)
Celia: Currently unknown.
📸 CAMERA - do they enjoy having their picture taken? what's their go-to pose? do they like taking photos? what do they take photos of?
I would say Celia is fine with photo taking, Bruno not so much. Melone likes the camera so she likes getting her picture taken.
Melone's go-to pose would be likely pulling people close to her in either a side hug or just as close to her chest as possible. Bruno would be proper, same with Celia though more relaxed.
Celia likes to take photos. How else can she improve as an artist if you don't have reference material? Melone doesn't really do it though she knows she should when making something. Bruno is not really a photo person. Celia takes photos of her art while Melone does her own inventions and such.

Splat Bios!
I went ahead and wrote up some bios for my splatoon OCs! I may rewrite them at some point but I think they're good for the time being. Give em a read and send in some asks!
Malibu: A timid navy blue inkling who moved in with her city cousins alongside her little sister. A step down a wrong alley during her first week in Inkopolis got her captured by octolings and taken to Octo Valley, where she was rescued by Agents 1 and 2, and conscripted as Agent 3. To help maintain their mutual cover, Callie and Marie hired Mali as their assistant. After the great zapfish was rescued and the Squid Sisters went their separate ways, Off The Hook took her for themselves.
Lily: A short inkling with light blue coloration, Lily is very excitable, especially when it comes to turf wars. She met Coral her very first day in the city, when Jaz brought her, Malibu, and Amy to her favorite café, and begged to join the team the tall orange inkling was making, along with Amy to come along with her. Jaz was reluctant to allow it, but Coral welcomed them with open arms and started training them the very next day.
Amy: Amaranth is Jaz’s little sister, with pink hair that she styles up in spikes. She has a giant crush on Annie, but Moe always runs her off before she can make a move. Amy used to be more concerned about keeping her clothes clean in a battle than actually winning it, but grew to accept the messiness after some convincing from her team. Most of the time anyways.
Jaz: Jasmine is a tall, purple, catlike inkling who adores her sister and cousins, and loves to dote on them whenever she gets the chance. Lily loves it, but Amy and Mali always get embarrassed by her excessive affection. She's earned a reputation on the squinternet by climbing or super jumping to hard-to-reach places during battles, as well as sneaking behind enemy team members and taking them out.
Nami: An amateur archaeologist with a treasure trove of human artifacts, Nami is Coral's room- and teammate. Coral loves teasing her about her collection and turning her yellow tentacles red. She used to see herself as the second in command, but always jumps at the chance to go Salmon Running whenever they start hiring, which has put Coral on the lookout for a new member to fill her slot.
Coral: Coral is a tall, charismatic, and semi-popular inkling with orange tentacles. She's earned fame on the squinternet from her montage videos and snapshots, but always makes sure to include her team, even if they're preoccupied with things like winning the battle they're in the middle of. She's rumored to have been seen with an octoling in various spots around town.
Enigma: A former spy and commander in the Octarian army, Enigma is a mimic octopus octoling who led a small squad of octolings to rebel against the Octarians and integrate with Inkling society. They have the ability to perfectly replicate any other Inkling or Octoling in both appearance and voice, but are quiet and a bit raspy as themself. When the Great Zapfish went missing again, they knew it was the Octarian menace, and set out to investigate and put things right, inadvertently becoming Agent 4 in the process.
Maple: A flapjack octopus octoling who served under Enigma and still occasionally translates for her, Maple used to pilot various robots for the Octarians, but after crashing each one they put her in, she was demoted to an octostamp suit. She loves watching all the different kinds of battles the inklings have, but fell down into the subway while scrounging for a spectation snack in an old octarian dead drop.
Iris: An alluring jellyfishling with see-through skin, and rainbow lights throughout her body. Iris can't speak a wish of Squiddish or Octoling, and nobody can understand her dialect of Jelly. Even so, she manages to understand what others are saying, at least most of the time. She used to spend her time in the underground subway system, but stuck with Maple after the octoling fell down on her. Iris is often subject to one-sided conversations from the excitable octoling as they explore the city and the metro.

Tell us about your splatoon OCs!
Hoo nelly, alright. This is gonna get a bit long so click keep reading to see it all.
First off is Penny: pink hair, lime green eyes, and is totally a nervous wreck. She works with a crew at Grizzco comprising of herself and my other OCs; Tara, Niall, and Basil. She worries that she’s holding them back because she’s not great at Salmon Run, but it’s the only income she can manage because she has absolutely no desire to play Turf War or Ranked. She’s totally in love with Mitzi, a girl who eventually joins the team after Niall quits Grizzco due to an accident. Unfortunately Penny has no clue how to communicate these feelings, so she admires Mitzi from afar, hoping she’ll notice. (I should elaborate I’m currently writing a fanfic that goes into more detail over most of these characters, expect that some time in the future.)
Next is Mitzi: short mint green hair, pink eyes, and a rebel with a short temper. After years of using unregulated modified weapons and gear, and getting into many fights over lost battles Mitzi is eventually banned from Turf and Ranked. With her source of income (and the outlet for pent-up anger) gone, under protest she turned to Grizzco for employment. She works in the crew with Penny, Tara, and Basil. She reciprocates similar feelings to Penny, but Mitzi plays it off in a flirtatious and laid-back attitude. Truth of the matter being she’s a hopeless romantic who doesn’t have much confidence in herself.
Tara: very long orange hair, silver eyes, and kind of a pretentious bitch. She’s the self-appointed leader of the Salmon Run group, and often criticizes her teammates for under-performing; namely Penny. She’s S+ rank, and has top marks during almost every battle, Turf or Ranked. Despite being a prodigy for ranked battle, she still works at Grizzco simply because she finds it more exciting than turf battles. She strongly dislikes Mitzi for her unsportsmanlike behavior, and will often antagonize her for being too rowdy.
Niall: green hair in a short ponytail, brown eyes, and probably the friendliest Inkling you could meet. His chipper attitude can be both comforting and at times, overbearing. He used to work at Grizzco with the crew until a harrowing accident makes him quit. He now works at a grocery store in Inkopolis Square, and despite this accident he still retains his jovial demeanor. He keeps in touch with his old coworkers and even gives Penny relationship advice when she asks for it. Whether she puts that advice to good use is kind of a mystery.
Basil: shoulder-length black hair swept over one eye, dark blue eyes, and the definition of indifferent. He is so distant and soft spoken, people are prone to forget he’s even there. He works at Grizzco and is very good at his job, he’s a very good strategist (even better than Tara) and when he makes a plan, it almost always works in the teams favor. He’s totally into punk-rock fashion and music, which is kind of a stark contrast to his reserved demeanor. He has a small crush on Tara but absolutely no one catches onto this, and he doesn’t act on it (for a while at least).
These are the main five I’ve actually developed, and the remaining few aren’t anywhere near as developed and serve moreso for ideas I have in the future (be it animations or fanfics).
Rey: Octoling with blood-orange hair and yellow eyes. She works as a low-ranking scientist for the Octarian menace beneath Inkopolis. Despite being a girl of science she is a total badass and can hold her own, she even goes on field missions alone. She has feelings for her commander Opal, but tries to repress them in order to focus on her work.
Opal: Octoling with lavender hair and brown eyes. Although she’s a high-ranking commander in the Octarian army with plenty of combat experience, she’s a huge softy and is into all sorts of cutesy things (namely Inkling fashion).
Mr. Mogi: Inkling man in his early thirties, droopy purple hair that go past his shoulders, and hazel eyes. He owns the apartments that Penny lives in, and he’s like the most chill dude ever.
Evan: Inkling boy with a yellow low ponytail, and bright pink eyes. Procrastinates a lot. Literally my self-insert/avatar, not much to talk about.
If you’ve made it this far, congratulations! If anyone has any more inquiries I’ll probably answer them, and when the time comes for me to start posting that fanfic I’m working on, I’ll let it be known on this blog.
