around the time mimi gets high status in school, robin goes missing. mimi just finds out one day and knew bailey had to do something w/ it. usually mimi tries to go for self-preservation (picking her battles, trying not to be a target), but this is freaking robin. since they have a shared history and struggle together, she accepts to pay for his debt

she becomes his emotional support and rock. robin is understandably battered, so mimi prioritizes his well-being more... but then, whitney comes along to challenge her status. not only is she caring for a traumatized friend and making ends meet, she's potentially losing something that makes her feel safe: her social standing in school. it just puts mimi in a v tight spot.

mimi becomes overwhelmed by it all, and ends up distancing from robin. robin's still recovering from his trauma, and he needs mimi more than ever. so he gets upset and confused by her lack of presence. mimi apologizes, promising she'll be there for him more....but then, she fails to deliver. so it causes a rift between them, with robin getting mad at her for breaking her promise and mimi saying he has never shown care for her.
