hihi ! i wanted to ask if you're a self-taught artist or if you went to art school to get where you are right now? ^_^
hi! the short answer is "technically no", as i've gone to art school.
my longer answer is the following:
i have complicated thoughts about the term "self-taught". it's difficult to know where to draw the line, so to speak.
for example, if i take an online course (say, a class101 course, or skillshare), does that still "count" as being self taught? does taking AP art count? or a public watercolor class, or even following a tutorial, whether online or those "how to draw manga" books (debatable but that's the point of this being complicated, I think).
what about if you went to art school, and learned very little from the staff? most of my teachers assigned projects, but it was up to us to develop the skills necessary to carry it out. they would not teach us how to draw, but rather simply gave us guidelines on the project (i.e, it has to be a three page comic, or a work based on a news article). i've also encountered plenty of teachers that have done... the opposite of teaching.
basically, a lot of my time in art school was spent teaching myself the necessary components to fulfill the requirements set for me. i don't know if that still counts as "self-taught", even though i was the only one working.
i do think i've benefitted from some teacher's knowledge and the opportunities afforded to me (access to supplies/printing machines, etc.), so i'm not saying i'm entirely self taught or that art school isn't "worth it" (that's an entire other discussion that i don't care to get into), but i also know i've spent a LOT of my time teaching myself too, during university but especially growing up, when my family was against my wanting to be an artist in the first place.
to summarize, i think everyone is self-taught to some degree, and the idea of "self-taught" and suddenly not being self taught because you went to art school is an arbitrary way to categorize people.

When I was 18, I attended The American Academy of Dramatic Arts. I did not get invited back for a second year. This used to devastate me. I didn't understand why they didn't think I worked hard enough, and I thought this meant I couldn't be an actor. This heavily set back my career as an actor and in my confidence in my acting ability.
Now look back on that time and my view is a little different. I was only 18. I was fresh out of high school and fresh out of my mother's house. I didn't know I had Fibromyalgia yet I just had heavy unexplained pain and fatigue that caused me to be able to practice outside of class a lot less often as my peers. I had just gone off my ADHD medication for the first time in my whole life. I know this was dumb of me, but I couldn't keep getting it in LA. I never figured out how to get it without my mom's help who lived elsewhere. If you know anything about AADA, you know about the 50-page bios. (I have the demigod mixture ADHD and dyslexia) my dyslexia made IPA for Voice and Speech really hard for me, so there were assignments I didn't do well.
I was also finally out of my mother's house for the First Time. I moved from a conservative mountain town to West Hollywood. I was away from my abusive mom, able to do whatever I wanted in a big city. I went out a lot. I should not have done this, but eh, what are you gonna tell an 18 year old in this situation. I imagine that me using my limited energy for going dancing or to Disneyland every weekend was hurting my ability to practice outside of class as often as I should have.
I'm not trying to defend myself and say that I should have gotten invited back. I'm 24 now, and I'm turning 25 next month. It's been 7 years, and I can finally admit that they should not have invited me back. That version of me was not ready. I was never rested, unmedicated, undiagnosed, and unfocused. I wish more than anything that I waited for now to go to acting school. I wish so badly that I could go back now that I feel like I can truly actually do it well. But I can't. I already did it at 18 and fucked it up. I don't know how I'm gonna get acting training like that again. I haven't properly acted in years so I really need it. I'm gonna have to get an acting class on Skillshare or something.
The moral of the story is do not go to college right out of high school even if you know exactly what you want to do already. Let yourself grow into your adult life first and do it when you're ready, or you will be sorry!

SaaSy OBM High Level Training
Tumblr media
Highlevel Training: The SaaS-y OBM Advantage
In the fast-paced world of SaaS businesses, staying on top of tasks and delivering exceptional client experiences requires a strategic approach. That’s where a SaaS-savvy Online Business Manager (OBM) shines. With Highlevel training as a cornerstone, these professionals become indispensable partners in scaling operations and optimizing workflows. They achieve this by setting up robust automation systems, creating efficient sales funnels, and leveraging data analytics to make informed decisions that support sustainable growth.
What is Highlevel Training?
Highlevel training equips OBMs with the skills to master GoHighLevel, a powerful SaaS platform designed for agencies and businesses. GoHighLevel provides tools for managing client relationships, automating workflows, and streamlining marketing efforts, making it an essential platform for efficiency and growth. GoHighLevel offers an all-in-one solution to manage client relationships, marketing, sales funnels, and automation. For OBMs, learning to navigate and leverage this platform means streamlining operations and delivering results efficiently.
Why OBMs Need Highlevel Training
The role of an OBM goes beyond basic task management. A SaaS-savvy OBM oversees systems, implements automation, and ensures seamless team collaboration. Highlevel training amplifies these abilities, enabling OBMs to:
Set Up Automated Workflows: Save hours by creating workflows for recurring tasks like client onboarding and email follow-ups.
Optimize Funnels: Build, test, and refine sales funnels to boost conversion rates.
Enhance CRM Efficiency: Use GoHighLevel’s CRM tools to track leads, nurture relationships, and improve client retention.
Streamline Communication: Integrate messaging systems that keep teams and clients on the same page.
The SaaS-y Edge
OBMs trained in Highlevel bring a competitive advantage to SaaS businesses. For example, a recent survey revealed that businesses leveraging GoHighLevel automation saw a 30% reduction in operational costs. This advantage stems from their ability to integrate technology with strategic planning, ensuring both efficiency and scalability. They align technology with business goals, making operations more agile and results-driven. This alignment ensures that businesses can scale without stumbling over inefficiencies or missed opportunities.
Real-Life Applications of Highlevel Training
Client Onboarding: A SaaS company faced challenges in onboarding new clients efficiently. An OBM with Highlevel training revamped the process by automating welcome emails, task assignments, and follow-up reminders, reducing onboarding time by 40%.
Marketing Campaigns: An agency struggled with tracking the performance of multiple campaigns. Using GoHighLevel, their OBM consolidated all campaign data into one dashboard, enabling real-time insights and faster adjustments.
Team Collaboration: By integrating communication tools within GoHighLevel, an OBM eliminated scattered emails and miscommunications, improving project delivery timelines.
How to Get Started with Highlevel Training
For aspiring SaaS OBMs or those looking to enhance their skill set, Highlevel training is a must. It provides the foundational knowledge needed to effectively manage complex systems, automate tasks, and deliver seamless client experiences, which are critical for success in the SaaS industry. Here’s how you can dive in:
Enroll in Online Courses: Platforms like Udemy and Skillshare offer beginner to advanced courses tailored to GoHighLevel.
Attend Webinars: GoHighLevel frequently hosts live sessions to showcase new features and best practices.
Leverage Community Resources: Join GoHighLevel user groups or forums to exchange tips and learn from seasoned professionals.
Practice Hands-On: The best way to master the platform is through real-world application. Offer free trials of your services or work on personal projects to build confidence.
Benefits of Hiring a Highlevel-Trained OBM
If you’re a SaaS entrepreneur or agency owner, partnering with an OBM proficient in Highlevel is a game-changer. Here’s why:
Time Savings: Delegate complex tasks and focus on growth.
Cost Efficiency: Streamlined operations mean reduced overhead costs.
Improved Client Satisfaction: Automation ensures timely responses and consistent service.
Scalability: With systems in place, scaling becomes a breeze.
Final Thoughts
Highlevel training transforms OBMs into powerhouse professionals who drive efficiency and growth for SaaS businesses. Whether you’re an OBM looking to upskill or a business owner seeking operational excellence, investing in this training pays dividends. With the right expertise, you can turn your SaaS dreams into a thriving reality.

Did you know there are services that offer free university-level modules, for free?
I am one of those people that are obsessed with learning, but structured courses are expensive. Not these. Here are some links if you, too, are obsessed with the pursuit of knowledge and want to learn something (for FREE!)
EdX is my personal favourite. It offers loads of subjects that are usually taken from university courses, and the ones that I have done are pretty good. These can all be taken for free, or you can pay £40 to take the assignments and recieve a graded certificate. Now, the catch here is that most of the courses are archived, which means that, occasionally, some of the links won't work and you have to be creative with the readings. I have found this to be a pretty minimal issue though, and it is worth it.
I recently took this EdX course about 19th Century literature and it was excellent. Some of the links were broken so I took some creative liberties with the readings, but I read all of the books discussed and used the course materials to critically analyse them as I did so. I didn't follow the course exactly, but it was still an enriching experience and something I wouldn't have thought to do otherwise.
Another good one is OpenLearn, which is a branch of the Open University. The OpenLearn courses are usually pretty good, although some can feel a bit lackluster and basic. Don't expect super in-depth courses, but they're good for an introduction to a subject, or to top up your skills in somethign you haven't done in a while. These offer free certificates of participation, so they're great if, say, you want a career change but you haven't studied data science since college. I enjoyed the classes I took, but I wouldn't say they were as challenging as EdX.
I recently took this OpenLearn course about Hadrian's Rome. Classical history is something I'm interested in and this was a great way to guide my study of an aspect of it.
Coursera is a very popular one. Similar to OpenLearn, these courses can sometimes be a little surface-level. These also have a much larger focus on building transferrable skills than developing cultural knowledge and learning for your own enrichment. Even so, there are some wonderful gems on there if you're willing to scroll through and find them. Coursera is also great because it has project-centred courses, where you work towards a finished product under the (virtual, recorded) guidance of an expert. Think of it like a corporate skillshare.
Last summer I took this Coursera course about screenwriting. It was project based, and I came out of it with a fully realised first draft of a pilot episode of a TV show. I realised through this process that maybe screenwriting wasn't for me, but it allowed me to get out of my comfort zone with writing and explore that avenue that I would have probably always wodered about.
OpenCulture is a good database of free courses that then redirects you to other websites, but you have to be willing to sift through the sludge with this one, as some are more worth your time than others.
Another good way to find free courses is to search for them on university websites. I have found that most US universities (and loads of UK ones too, though it is less common) offer free online courses. You have to be careful here, because sometimes they will say they are free but actually the 'free' part is viewing the syllabus.
You might be thinking 'what is the point of a course that doesn't get me a qualification?' and I'd say 'I get you, because I felt the same way,' but if you're anything like me and love learning, they're a godsend. Of course, there is nothing stopping you from finding all of the course content online, and I'd actually encourage you to do that alongside the courses, but knowing where to start is the difficult part. There is so much information to learn about any given topic that it can be overwhelming. These courses provide you with a structure that you can then use within your own wider research to learn about subjects you maybe don't want to commit to in a formal setting.
I'm not paid by any of these websites, I just think the monetisation of knowledge is wrong and awful and disgusting and anyway to beat that should be celebrated and shared and used as widely as possible.
Happy learning! :)

Anyways some tutor teacher guy approached me at my table asking if I was his student
He was embarrassed that he was wrong but
But I'm honestly delighted that I looked like someone who could be a student 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺
I don't know if I've ever mentioned here, but I LOVE learning.
If I could afford to, I'd go to school for the rest of my life. Learning about all sorts of different things. I do not give two shits about the degrees. I care about the structured learning and yes even completing assignments.
Once I've completed my planner, I'm going to start taking free courses on Alison, and save up for a skillshare membership. I'll also need to get some note books which I think I've found the best deal I can found on those...
I'll also need to do some cleaning and reorganizing of my room too.
Lots to do in order for me to pursue knowledge.
I just want to learn and consume knowledge.

Creating Impactful Online Courses: A Guide for TikTok Creators
The rise of online learning has revolutionized how people gain new skills and knowledge, with platforms like Udemy, Coursera, and Skillshare leading the charge. For TikTok creators, this trend offers an incredible opportunity to harness their influence and deliver in-depth, structured learning experiences that go beyond the fleeting 60-second videos they’re known for. By creating online courses, you can provide your audience with valuable, actionable content while opening up new streams of income. Whether you’re a fitness guru, a DIY expert, or a makeup artist, this guide will walk you through the process of designing and launching impactful online courses that captivate your followers and turn your expertise into profit.
Understanding Your Audience
Before you start building your course, you need to know who you’re creating it for. Your TikTok followers already love your content, but what exactly do they want to dive deeper into? To find out, start by reviewing your most popular videos—look at the likes, comments, and shares to spot patterns. Are your dance tutorials getting the most traction, or is it your budgeting hacks? Next, use TikTok’s analytics to dig into your audience demographics and behavior. Don’t stop there—engage directly with your followers by running polls in your stories, asking questions in your video captions, or responding to comments. For example, you might ask, “What’s one skill you’d pay to learn from me?” Their answers will guide you toward a course topic they’re eager to invest in. The key is alignment: the more your course matches their needs, the more likely they’ll enroll.
Planning Your Course
Once you’ve pinpointed your audience’s interests, it’s time to map out your course. Choose a topic that showcases your strengths and solves a problem for your followers. If you’re a TikTok fashion influencer, a course like “Building a Capsule Wardrobe on a Budget” might resonate. Break your topic into bite-sized modules—think of these as chapters in a book. Each module should tackle a specific aspect of the topic, and within each, create lessons with clear goals. For instance, a module on “Wardrobe Essentials” could include lessons like “Picking Timeless Pieces,” “Mixing and Matching,” and “Shopping Smart.” Define what students will learn in each lesson, such as “By the end, you’ll know how to pair five items into ten outfits.” This structure keeps your course organized and helps learners feel a sense of progress. Add a quick quiz or checklist at the end of each module to lock in their learning.
Creating Engaging Content
Your course content needs to educate and entertain—just like your TikTok videos. Start by scripting each lesson to keep your delivery tight and focused. Avoid winging it; a clear outline ensures you hit all the important points. Bring your personality into the lessons with storytelling—maybe share how you once struggled with a skill before mastering it, or highlight a follower’s success story. Visuals are crucial too. Use slides, graphics, or even live demos to break down tricky concepts. If you’re teaching photography, show before-and-after edits on screen. Keep videos short—5 to 10 minutes per lesson—to match your audience’s attention span. Spice things up with interactive elements: a quiz to test their knowledge, a mini-assignment like “Film a 15-second TikTok using this tip,” or a discussion prompt to spark conversation. Accessibility matters, so add captions or transcripts to reach everyone.
Marketing Your Course
A stellar course won’t sell itself—you’ve got to get the word out. TikTok is your secret weapon here. Drop teaser videos showing off what students will learn, like a 30-second clip of you demonstrating a key lesson. Share behind-the-scenes peeks of your recording process to build excitement, and sweeten the deal with a limited-time discount for your followers. Use trending sounds and hashtags to boost discoverability—#LearnOnTikTok could be a winner. Don’t stop at TikTok, though. Cross-promote on Instagram with a carousel post or on Twitter with a thread about your course’s value. Build an email list (even a small one) and send updates with testimonials from early students or a countdown to launch day. Partnering with another creator can amplify your reach—imagine a shoutout from a fellow TikToker with a similar audience. Marketing isn’t a one-and-done task; keep the buzz going post-launch with fresh promo ideas.
Tumblr media
Delivering and Improving Your Course
When your course goes live, your job shifts to delivering an amazing experience. Stay connected with your students—host a live Q&A on TikTok or Instagram to answer questions, or reply to their messages personally. Set up a simple community space, like a private Facebook group or Discord server, where they can chat and share progress. Ask for feedback early and often—send a quick survey after the first module or invite suggestions in a casual “What’s working for you?” video. If multiple students say a lesson’s too fast-paced, slow it down or add extra examples. Week 10 (3/28)
This week in ARTS 246 we continued working on our portfolios. I brought some print outs into class to get some initial feedback; by doing this I realized the Blurb template had us working super close to the inside of the book, so I was able to pull my margins about a half inch further and I'm feeling much better about it. I also got feedback to continue using drop caps and to consider using call outs since I have yet to implement any so far. Next week I plan to bring in a few spreads printed out for even more feedback. We were also assigned to watch a Skillshare or YouTube video, I chose to watch "Illustration & Inspiration: Keeping a Sketchbook" by Leah Goren. Through this video Leah talked about how keeping a sketchbook and doing the work that she was interested in allowed people to find her on social media and that was a way she got work. I really liked looking at her patterns and seeing her process for creating them. Some of her patterns and sketchbook paintings reminded me of fashion illustration designs I've seen, and this is definitely something I want to continue to look into for my future.
