Today at 6:30 a kid from the social skills class calls me. And tomorrow at 6:30 I'll call someone from the class too. I know it'll probably go fine, but I also know my nerves still act up on me whenever I have to do it. It's funny. i've become somewhat close with the teachers of the class, but i haven't ever managed to keep in touch with any of the other kids. Still, knowing this might be one of the last times i can take the course really does get to me. It makes me feel upset. Because this course has provided consistency, and I think it's helped me learn to talk to people (even if i haven't managed to retain any friends from it). It's just... it's nerve-wracking in many ways. Making the call makes me nervous, but leaving the class makes me feel awful.

I meant to post this yesterday. I don't know if I did. But besides that, everything I said remains true. I make the phone call in exactly an hour in my timezone, and i'm slightly nervous. But I might possibly be more nervous to lose my one piece of consistency that I have left. sigh...

I feel like as Nene's world expanded and she started to mature, Aoi slowly become less and less of a fundamental part of her life.

Aoi is introduced to us as Nene's first and best friend.

And it is easy to see their bond: Nene loved to spend time with Aoi and always ran to talk to her about boy problems, even talking about Hanako despite Aoi not being able to see him.

We also get references of them hanging out outside school sprinkled in extras.

Strangely though, we never see them hanging out outside school or have Nene make a reference of a fun time they had hanging out in the main manga.

Even the spin off manga, which was made to explore dynamics without leting the plot get in the way only has toilet trio centric chapters.

We get so many dynamics in the spin off, from Fairy and Tiara, to Aoi and Teru, or even Nagisa, Yako, and Tsuchigomore, but not Nene and Aoi. The closest we got to a 'nene and aoi hanging out' after class chapter is one where Akane was the one to organize the event

It makes all the times Nene goes 'i do that with my bestie Aoi!' feel somewhat detached from the main story, like something from the past, before the manga started.

The thing that makes me believe this isn't just a case of bad exposition and Aoi and Nene truly had been spending less time together is this: Aoi biggest concern is that Nene is too busy to spend time with her.

Aoi is a girl known for bottling up her emotions and avoiding vulnerability. The idea that Nene was going out of her way to avoid her, secretly hating Aoi, was so prevalent in her anxious mind that Aoi forced herself to actually ask Nene for reassurance, this is such an insane level of insecurity, it wouldn't had happened if they goofed off outside school. To her Nene 'abruptly' started ditching her.

You can find fun facts about their friendship in extras but in the actual manga, Nene only spend time with Aoi during classes, where her other friends can't follow her, or when Aoi is in danger and it is a matter of saving her life. They don't make plans, they don't hang out. Slowly but surely, Aoi started to take a back seat in the narrative.

Nene doesn't even seem to garden with Aoi anymore. Or at the very least, Nene doesn't priorize their club, because the gardening club (Which i'm assuming is a small club since we don't know anyone in it besides Nene and Aoi) had a herbal tea stand in the og festival and Nene never mentioned that. Not even once.

Helping Aoi with this stand was never an option to Nene.

Nene had no interest in spending the festival with Aoi in the original timeline. During the festival preparations she stayed with Hanako and during the actual festival they just took a picture and went their separate ways.

The next time Nene is shown, she is already with Hanako. And she check out every attraction with Hanako, Kou, and Mitsuba. Not a single "This was so fun, I wish Aoi was here!" panel to be seen during their montage.

Even Aoi's usual role of being the "Boy talk" friend it's no longer exclusive to her.

The person that gave Nene love advice recently was Mitsuba.

And yes, Mitsuba was the one to approach her, but that's the point. Aoi rarely approaches Nene, so Nene is the one with the power to decide if she'll talk with Aoi and Nene simply doesn't want to talk with Aoi that much, nowadays Aoi doesn't cross her mind even when Nene is dealing with love problems.

It's interesting because Nene claims she want to brag about her love life with Aoi when Aoi is gone.

But when push comes to shove, she does not. She keep her love life private, separate from Aoi:

She has been doing that for a while.

Who does she brag about getting a 'love letter' to? It should be Aoi right? That's her 'boys talk buddy'! And it happened in chapter 29, a relatively early chapter, but the idea of going to her friend of two years never crosses Nene's mind.

Nene searched the whole school to brag to Hanako, and while she could have showed the letter to Aoi first (she found Aoi first!) and Hanako later, she has no interest in showing it to Aoi. No thoughts of how the letter may cheer Aoi up, or afterthoughts on their encounter, the moment Aoi is gone, she is gone from Nene's mind too.

Her dynamic with Aoi never changes, so their relationship is still shallow (Which i talk about it Here)

But Nene has changed, she got a crush that isn't superficial, she got a lot of friends that made her grow, she isn't the same shallow girl that always run to the popular girl to talk about pretty boys anymore: her bond with her new friends run deeper than with Aoi's.

Even something as huge as Aoi seeing supernaturals does not catch Nene's attention.

Nene goes "i'm happy you're okay." before going back to fun times, because that's all Aoi ever will be. A dear friend but not a very deep one, someone Nene goes to have fun not open up or vent, so the idea of a serious talk probably never crossed Nene's mind.

Of course she doesn't take this as an oportunity to talk about everything she's been hiding from Aoi. Why would she? Nene already has people to talk about it, people she trust and that had been with her throught her hardest of times. People she connect on a deeper level (since she idolizes Aoi way more than she relates or relies on her)

The relationship Nene has with Aoi remind me of this moment:

Because she never questions Aoi, or her own feelings for acting certain ways. She calls Aoi "my friend!" but doesn't dig deeper, doesn't nurture this bond, as if that's the finish line so no focus is needed on it anymore.

The moment Hanako takes his hat of served to push Nene, to realize he has dept, but the moments Aoi acted strange were dismissed "If Aoi said she is fine then she must be fine" regardless of the situation or how out of her 'bubbly and cheerful' persona she acted.

As if Aoi, who was so entangled in Nene's life when she was a shallow girl who only cared about being loved and getting a boyfriend, is unable to have dept.

Because Nene is a very sensitive and understanding girl, the hat scene isn't a 'the romantic interest has privileges in the narrative' situation. Nene usually wants to understand why people are troubled, and create deeper connections with them, she want to make sure they are alright.

She has come a long way from the girl that want to preserve her normal high school life, running away at any signs of trouble and baggage.

He is no longer the girl Aoi know, the girl who all questions always relate to silly crushes.

Her world expanded, so it's no wonder Aoi ceased to be a main player in it.

Is also why I have mixed feelings on the new timeline.

The Nene who never got involved with supernaturals, the shallow girl forever stuck in her early 'i need a pretty boy to love me!' mentality, and has no development...

...is the one that has the bff relationship with Aoi that we were alluded to them having before the manga started.

The world had to literally reset and push most of Nene's friends away to make them feel close again and let Aoi have a role in her narrative.

maybe I'm overthinking things, but whenever I see people talking about significant/transformative moments in tianshan's relationship (barring their fight, the kiss, the ear piercing, etc.), I'm always a little disappointed no one points out the scene where the boys are going through the cardboard boxes of random things from he tian's childhood and he tian says something to the effect of, "the entire world is out there but everything I've ever owned only fits in these two boxes" and then he discreetly places his hand palm-up between him and guan shan. and guan shan pauses for a moment before placing his glass in his hand. and then the chapter ends.

this moment is one of the few panels I've saved over the years:

like... it's short but there's so much emotion behind this scene, it's hard for me to put it into words succinctly. and it stands out to me because it's not particularly intense or climatic like their other big moments. it happens soon after she li assaulted guan shan on the riverbank — which was heavy on the drama and ultimately the catalyst for tianshan's relationship. he tian had also just been financially cut off from his family and guan shan had been physically and emotionally vulnerable/exhausted for some time. basically, things were still raw and hectic for both of them in different ways

so this quiet, subdued, and wordless interaction between them on the balcony was very interesting. I honestly think it's one of the first instances in which tianshan have a personal/intimate mutual understanding of one another without an outside force influencing it or the moment being interrupted. and somehow, it's both abnormal and very fitting that he tian didn't make a grand gesture in this moment. like, if you think about it, he simply turned his hand on the cushion and looked at guan shan. it wasn't obvious; he wasn't making a scene. but of course guan shan, hyperaware of him, noticed

and the fact that the chapter ends after that also stands out to me. again, if he tian was being his normal self, he probably would've said/complained outright that he obviously wanted guan shan to give him his hand, not his glass, or he probably would've grabbed guan shan's hand as he was placing the glass down because he tian always just takes what he wants and tames guan shan's defiance or embarrassment after the fact

but instead, the chapter ends. and it doesn't even feel abrupt, really. it feels complete. and it makes me assume that he tian accepted the glass as guan shan's response and didn't press the issue. he might've just held onto the glass in his lap (or drank from it while maintaining eye contact) and then moved his attention back to the group at large. and, again, that's both abnormal and fitting for him in this scene

and I know I just said "guan shan's response" but what's frustrating — and fascinating! — is that I've yet to come to a definitive conclusion about what the (unspoken) question/response between them was to begin with. of course, he tian had just finished talking about the paradoxical state of his life — about how he could have everything and yet he has next to nothing — so maybe his "question" for guan shan was as simple as: "even if I don't have/want anything else, can I at least have you?"

but I also think it's interesting to consider that jian yi immediately laughed at he tian after he finished talking, accusing him of being dramatic (and in jian yi's defense, he'd never really seen an honest version of he tian like guan shan had at that point, so I don't blame him for thinking he tian was just being melodramatic for attention as per usual). anyway, jian yi and zheng xi got a good chuckle out of it, but guan shan didn't. iirc, he actually looked a bit lost in thought before he noticed he tian looking at him, and then his hand between them

with that small detail, it makes me think he tian's question leaned more toward: "do you believe me?" or maybe "do you understand me in the ways I want you to?"

I'd like to think he tian wouldn't have offered his hand if guan shan had also rolled his eyes with zhanyi — poor little rich boy — and dismissed what he'd said. but then again, with the state of their situation/relationship at that point, I don't think there was a chance in hell that guan shan would've dismissed him. I'm sure we can all agree that he tian's intense emotional response to finding guan shan injured and subsequently taking care of him without expecting anything in return drastically changed guan shan's perspective of him. guan shan had a lot to process at that point in the manhua, and a lot of hard truths to start acknowledging. it was clear that he tian had a lot on his mind during that time, too

so guan shan placing the glass in he tian's palm might've been him saying, "I'm still figuring this (us) out... but my answer isn't no" (hence the reason why he tian presumably didn't push the issue further bc he was more cognizant of guan shan's boundaries by this point) or it might've been him saying, "yeah, I'm starting to understand you, and you're not what I thought you were but that's not scaring me away" (therefore affirming he tian's question so he didn't feel the need to pursue the moment or make a bigger scene)

in any case, although there's no continuation after that scene, I think they were both satisfied by the end of the evening. I don't think he tian was disappointed by guan shan's response, and guan shan would've known that too. in fact, I'd argue that guan shan wanted to reaffirm he tian's emotions in that moment. the worst (yet easiest) thing guan shan could've done is look at him, look at his hand, and then look away and ignore him — literally leaving him empty-handed. that would've left he tian in a sour fucking mood... or at least a bit wounded

but instead, guan shan chose the more honest/reciprocal route even if he wasn't 100% sure yet. and... I don't know. it really stands out to me and I think a lot more was happening in that interaction than what could've been expressed in words. and yet I've literally never seen anyone talk about that scene since it was posted — which, fair enough. it's only a couple of panels. but I think about it constantly!

The suggestion had been innocent enough, with Zandik gone for a few weeks it came as no surprise that you found yourself missing the touch of your lover. Worse still was it that his segments made it all the more noticeable.

Dress shoes and metal heels constantly clicking against the cold floors. Both sounds that could herald the approach of any version of him. Against your better judgement, it still had your head perking up and your heart fluttering with anticipation despite knowing it would be at least another week before the original returned.

"Offer them a hand and they'll take an arm."

And how true that had been. The moment you'd stepped foot in their sanctuary, dozens of 'eyes' had immediately locked on your form.

Omega had been quick to brush aside the rest, claiming himself better equipped for the task than the rest. He was, after all, the most advanced of them all.

Nestled against his chest, the temperature a little above what Zandik's skin usually was, it was easy to ignore the low whirring sound from where a heart should be.

Pain flared through your nerves, pulling you from the peaceful slumber with a strangled screech. Your skin felt like it was on fire, melting from within and dripping onto the-

Onto what should have been cotton sheets. Instead, your fingers traced along a smooth, cold surface. Metal.

"Does it really hurt that bad? Poor little lamb, let me help," Zandik - no Omega - cooed in your ear, voice eerily saccharine.

A small chuckle followed his words, mingling with your own whimper as another surge of pain invaded your senses. Moving was impossible, something as freezing as the table keeping your limbs tethered.

Omega's beaked mask scratched along your cheek, and you swore blood trickled in its wake. Focusing was difficult as your head throbbed, only made worse by how sharp the lights were. Even squinting, you could only faintly make out the details of Omega's lips with your blurry vision.

Heavy limbs and a fogged mind. The explanation was logical. But he would never- a segment yes, but still your lover. Part of him at least.

A gloved hand struck your cheek, centering you for long enough to look down at yourself in horror. Undressed. Knees pinned to the vivisection table. You couldn't see anyone else in the room, thankful for that small mercy from Omega.

"This's not," your tongue felt heavy, the effort of shaping words more arduous than expected, "what I 'greed to.."

It felt like being torn apart, a wounded beast crying out when something put pressure between your legs.

Your attempts at thrashing against the restraints were only met with a shake of his head, "Details were never specified. What you requested was for one of us to fill in for the original, now don't be ungrateful," Omega tutted.

The ceiling had started spinning above you, tears streaking down your cheeks with every press of whatever Omega was currently forcing into your body. It felt like you were going to burst, the invasive object rearranging your gut and pushing the air from your lungs.

"He'd.. he'd never.." Your words came out as nothing more than breathless gasps and choked sobs. Wanting desperately to separate the Segment from your beloved Zandik, you had to close your eyes.

Another sharp slap to your cheek made your body clench down around the foreign object now being pistoned in and out of you. The taste of iron was heavy on your tongue from how hard you'd bit down on your lip.

"He would," Omega sounded far too satisfied, gloved fingers digging into your cheeks until you whimpered in pain, "there we go, passing out isn't an option darling. There's nothing of interest to me if you aren't screaming." He punctuated his words with a particularly harsh thrust that had your eyes flying open once more.

His mask had been discarded, leaving you staring up into the red core that you swore glinted with elation. Whatever had been working your body open was situated between his legs, abusing your hole with every thrust. It shouldn't be possible. Zandik had long since abandoned biological accuracy with the segments, which meant Omega himself had prepared for this.

As though sensing the confusion in your foggy mind, Omega grinned, "Have you never wondered why the original is so gentle with you? Never considered that there are parts he keeps hidden from you?"

You had. It was impossible not to. Nothing coherent left your lips, the pain having slowly turned to dim pleasure once his pace had slowed down.

"You cannot sate his desires, not without being broken. Do not delude yourself into thinking otherwise. This," Omega snapped his hips forward, the motion pulling a shrill scream from your lungs, "is just a taste of what 'Your Zandik' really is."

His movements stopped abruptly, leaving an ache growing in its wake and your body squirming. With a scoff, Omega leaned forward, an uncharacteristically bitter tone lacing his words, "We don't hesitate. We never let trivial matters distract us from the grand picture. You are making him weak."

A firm hand pressed down on your abdomen, the feeling making you cough and splutter while your eyes rolled back. There were no more tears left to shed, only a burning sting behind your eyes.

"The least you can do," Omega sneered into your ear, "is prove that you will not abandon him when his composure finally snaps."

Without warning, your body was left harrowingly empty as Omega pulled away, giving you a brief glimpse of the thick metal rod that had been strapped to his hips. Too tired to acknowledge the slick clinging to the surface, you tried weakly to lift your arms once more as the pain from your exposed position resurfaced with the lack of pleasure to distract you.

"...please," you silently sobbed, hoping he had finished making his point.

He merely hummed, tossing the makeshift dildo onto a table with a loud clang that made you flinch. "You aren't quite done yet, I believe a few of the others would like a word with you as well while the original is gone."

I hope this isn't weird but I've been reading this by @batmanisagatewaydrug and I had like the sudden, strongest urge to make art properly for the first time in ages, so uhhhh have some Jessie (or Jess? Can I call her Jess because I love her?) who is a terrible wet cat of a woman!

I wanted to get this done fast and human anatomy is not my forte so I traced a picture of Natalie in the City, who's a fashion blogger and has some cute fits, though no supervillain ones as far as I'm aware :3

RVB OC Week Day 1; Introduction AGENT ARIZONA _ "Guess you got me, Counselor. I peaked a decade ago and now I'm wasting my time running a daycare for miserable 20-somethings who're gonna get killed, crippled, or institutionalized in a year. [...] I've heard. But I'm forty-two, not twenty-two, and I don't need to be sold on a daydream. So... What, exactly, do you have to offer me?"

anyway, here's a more in-depth look at Ari for the rvb oc week ft. an old stuff from 2023 that I used for her on artfight and some new outfit/armor things for him. random thoughts/rambles + info under the cut for those interested --

Ari was born around 46-47 years before Blood Gulch and she was with Project Freelancer for around three years until it fell apart - originally he died in the MOI crash, but since Temple later on apparently 'imprisoned' her in the living armor room (and then THAT got retconned last year), I've kept his alive status more vague, Schödinger's cat style lol. (Timeline taken from the rvb guide book)

Anyway, small facts about him I guess; she was made Major/Battalion XO in her early thirties, she has a sister and 3 nieces/nephews that he sees once in a while, he's an inconsistent smoker, and she has a more southern(? if that's what it'd be called, I'm not American and it's not really like that Texan type so...) accent that she hides for several reasons. Also one of the few poor souls who finds Wyoming's knock knock jokes funny even if he pretends otherwise ...

Originally she was a LCDR but idk if PFL has navicom freelancers + tbh I based that position off of Mass Effect lol, so now he's an eq rank of O-4 but in the Marine Corps which I think PFL falls mostly under? Idk man. I think the background storyline still works tho so it's fine

In Project Freelancer, as one of the older and more experienced agents, he was often working as a team leader or a strategist of sorts which also aligns with her previous position - though now he's actually much more involved in the ops which she likes. His skillset is somewhat crowd control-esque (which includes tracking obv), combined with eliminating targets. (I have like a "guide" on how she should be played if he was in a hero shooter/moba/whatever but this is waaay too long already, you get the concept)

The armor design (halo5 ver) is largery taken from the Freelancer presumed to be Arizona in Battlescars - a Tracer helmet with an Achilles armor. Since rvb doesn't exactly follow Halo lore, I'm imagining this to mean it's largely "functions" as a Tracer armor, i.e. tactical and tracking focused, though maybe she was considered for Omega before Tex got him (since Achilles apparently comes with an aggressive AI in Halo lore but PFL only had Alpha + the fragments and Ari never received an AI). As a Major/XO, she wore the Halo Reach Commando helmet

I didn't draw them here but I do also have other 'versions' for her armor dependant on the game (like 'realistically' he couldn't wear this armor in Halo 3 etc) but idk if it's like. That important or whatever and I'm not like an expert on Halo armor lol (tho if you have opinions on if the H3 helmet should be Security, 'basic' or ODST etc or if you have info/ideas abt Halo armor in RVB in general do LMK <3)
