Even after learning their secret identities, the hero community always insisted that there was something inhuman about the bats. No one doubted that their intensive training had a lot to do with it, but it never quite explained how they could evade a Kryptonian's super senses, how they could melt into shadows, how they could function so long with little food, little rest, little oxygen if need be. Most people dismissed their uneasy feelings, but there was something strange about the bats, something uncanny, something that made them different from the arrows and other vanilla human members. And, slowly enough that no one really noticed, it was getting stronger.

Until one day, during a diplomatic meeting with the ruler of the Infinite Realms, when High King Phantom turned to Batman and his brood and literally brightened. "Oh! I didn't know you had liminal members!"

Or: through a variety of factors (proximity to death, their own death/near death experiences, exposure to the Lazarus Pits, the favor of Lady Gotham, immersion in Gotham's own cursed ambient ectoplasm, being a close knit group who continued to expose eachother, etc.) the batfamily have been becoming liminal/ecto-contaminated without noticing. The powers they're developing have been subtle, and align with the skills they expect to have, so no one brought it up when they started being able to hold their breath beyond human limitations, or got so sneaky that they literally seemed invisible, or had a lucky miss when they expected a bullet to go right through them. And they always exuded an unsettling aura of fear, so no one else thought anything was out of the ordinary either. By the time they meet Danny, Gotham counts as one of the most fiercely defended ghost haunts on the planet, with so many territorial liminals patrolling the streets.

also can we just talk about the fact that in the Wish World, a woman can get away with calling another woman beautiful without setting off everyone's queer panic, but when a man does it to a man, it tips over the edge? so the Kates of the world are flying just under the radar, but are likely to be more emotionally repressed as a result - and yet, all the queer or queer-coded characters in this world are offered the same security and protection from doubt by the prospect of entering into an opposite-sex marriage...

Linktober day twelve- favourite game

Skyward sword! My favourite game forever :)) The duets with Fi are by far my favourite gameplay aspect and recurring scenes in the game.

The music is The Ballad of the Goddess with Link's harp accompaniment. I played through on three different instruments like fifteen times, and checked every note on ocarina before I carved it. So. It's very accurate. Close ups of the music +my reference because yes

Normally you’d know that any character that hurts a cat goes on my shitlist to never return, but the Griffin testing the invisibility experiment on one has so many tiny character details that it honestly fascinates me.

The flaw that undermines Griffin the most is that he is practically incapable of parsing simple cause and effect, and that he never manages to think ahead.

When he’s experimenting on the cat and it makes a lot of noise, he doesn’t comprehend that it’s because it’s in pain, because he then immediately uses that process on himself and is shocked at how agonizing it is. He’s no Sydney Atherton out to torture and kill a cat for his own sick amusement, he���s not even Jack Seward insisting that vivisection is necessary because it’s medically useful—he’s just seeing if his process works on a living creature immediately before using it on himself. He didn’t even realize he’d hurt the cat until he was in the throes of agony.

And then a more down-to-earth detail that re-emphasizes this: the cat was hungry, so he gave it some milk. He tried to give it more milk later when it was upset, only to find all his food was gone. Not only does it paint more of the picture of what a stripped-bare life he lived, this unfurnished room stuffed with scientific apparatus and a bed he rarely uses—but how he can’t even piece together “give the cat the last of my food = I now have no food left.”

This contextualizes SO MUCH of his behavior up to this point, both the comical and the grim. Steals from his father without thinking about what his father will do without the money. Commits a burglary and immediately tells his landlady he can pay her now, is surprised when they suspect him of the burglary. Escapes arrest by stripping and then is left starving and naked without shelter. It’s a domino effect that not only chauses chaos and pain wherever he goes, but is a constant source of his own suffering.

I need to find ways of bettering my own mental health. But I am also naturally avoidant, which makes it *so* much harder.

Any time I try to make any changes (big or small), it's like one of those 'stretchy hand' toys is wrapped around all my limbs to keep dragging me back while cotton fills my head and *someone* (my brain) is screaming in my ear to both get up and do the thing while also giving me every reason on the list to *not* do it.

Then, when I finally do the thing and it all *stops*, I am unable to do anything else for the rest of the day because my body is in total pain from the stress and my brain is one hair-trigger away from breaking through my own skull from the exhaustion finally hitting me like a brick to the face.

So...anyone got any good tips/tricks for me to (maybe) use in improving this?? Because I really need them.

Do you ever just want to be in someone else's head for a little bit instead of your own? like if I could just take a vacation out of my brain and stop being concerned with all the shit that I care about and I could just see what life is like through somebody else's eyes for like 24 hours. like I know I could read a memoir, I know I could watch documentary... but it's just not the same as the feeling of taking your brain out of your skull and putting into a little glass jar full of liquid and shaking it up until it's all clear

The fact that you mentioned how thought out my descriptions were specifically made me so unreasonably happy bc i have so much more trouble with descriptions than dialogue and i spend so much time just Thinking about every word i write! thats kinda why it takes me so long to get new chapters out so i extra appreciate you for that

Our Dark Lord quite enjoys doing big acts of terror, and then sometimes he enjoys doing smaller, more insignificant ruining of lives. It truly just depends on his mood whether he'd like to wage a planet-wide large-scale war on humanity for three centuries, or if he would rather simply enjoy locking a pathetic clumsy little human into one of his many nightmarish torture dimensions and watching as the poor servant boy's entire sense of existence is meticulously, sadistically crushed into dust for a little while. Equally fun!

And you're so welcome! love your story :D I really couldn't tell that description is harder for you than dialogue. Honestly, to me, description seemed to be your fortee!! It is one of the most detailed descriptive stories I've found in here, and it is so so well-written! When I am describing the power of my main character of Curse of Withering (Cyrus), I even try to use your way of describing things, because I relly like the way it sounds with eerie/magical/out-worldly stuff.

And that's so, so sweet, omg (˶˃ ᵕ ˂˶) I don't even know what to say! Thank you <33! I had to give myself an extensive break from here while I was taking care of myself, that's why I didn't see the chapter when it got posted, but now I'm back :D

His Majesty is truly a whumper's dream of a character, his sadism is very tasty to read! And poor boy, loved to see him suffer, but give him gentle headpats for me, please! He's such an adorable tiny suffering bean, he deserves patting after a little torture.

Meanwhile in Mt. Komorebi, Cam and Piper are enjoying the last couple days of their vacation. I figured I might as well have them stay til Sunday and then start their next semester that coming Monday.

Now, Cam wanders around Senbamachi and finds a Simmi capsule vending machine. Her friend Casey told her about how these machines are located around Mt. Komorebi and sometimes even have rare collectible Simmis. She walks up to the vending machine and checks out the simmis available, hoping she can get Yamachan or the grim*. She inserts a few coins, presses the button, and grins as the little capsule comes out into the slot. She opens it and gets princess Cordelia instead and grumbles a bit but puts it into her backpack**. Also, here's a photo of Piper's auntie Rowan (auntie Juliet's wife) going to work and looking very grumpy but pretty. 😊
