The Case for Standardising Ways of Working in Software Delivery Teams
What Are Ways of Working? Before diving into standardisation, let’s define “ways of working.” In the context of software development or digital product development, ways of working refers to the methods, practices, and processes teams use to collaborate, communicate, and execute tasks. It encompasses frameworks, communication protocols, workflows, tools, and decision-making approaches that guide…

"When Ellen Kaphamtengo felt a sharp pain in her lower abdomen, she thought she might be in labour. It was the ninth month of her first pregnancy and she wasn’t taking any chances. With the help of her mother, the 18-year-old climbed on to a motorcycle taxi and rushed to a hospital in Malawi’s capital, Lilongwe, a 20-minute ride away.
At the Area 25 health centre, they told her it was a false alarm and took her to the maternity ward. But things escalated quickly when a routine ultrasound revealed that her baby was much smaller than expected for her pregnancy stage, which can cause asphyxia – a condition that limits blood flow and oxygen to the baby.
In Malawi, about 19 out of 1,000 babies die during delivery or in the first month of life. Birth asphyxia is a leading cause of neonatal mortality in the country, and can mean newborns suffering brain damage, with long-term effects including developmental delays and cerebral palsy.
Doctors reclassified Kaphamtengo, who had been anticipating a normal delivery, as a high-risk patient. Using AI-enabled foetal monitoring software, further testing found that the baby’s heart rate was dropping. A stress test showed that the baby would not survive labour.
The hospital’s head of maternal care, Chikondi Chiweza, knew she had less than 30 minutes to deliver Kaphamtengo’s baby by caesarean section. Having delivered thousands of babies at some of the busiest public hospitals in the city, she was familiar with how quickly a baby’s odds of survival can change during labour.
Chiweza, who delivered Kaphamtengo’s baby in good health, says the foetal monitoring programme has been a gamechanger for deliveries at the hospital.
“[In Kaphamtengo’s case], we would have only discovered what we did either later on, or with the baby as a stillbirth,” she says.
The software, donated by the childbirth safety technology company PeriGen through a partnership with Malawi’s health ministry and Texas children’s hospital, tracks the baby’s vital signs during labour, giving clinicians early warning of any abnormalities. Since they began using it three years ago, the number of stillbirths and neonatal deaths at the centre has fallen by 82%. It is the only hospital in the country using the technology.
“The time around delivery is the most dangerous for mother and baby,” says Jeffrey Wilkinson, an obstetrician with Texas children’s hospital, who is leading the programme. “You can prevent most deaths by making sure the baby is safe during the delivery process.”
The AI monitoring system needs less time, equipment and fewer skilled staff than traditional foetal monitoring methods, which is critical in hospitals in low-income countries such as Malawi, which face severe shortages of health workers. Regular foetal observation often relies on doctors performing periodic checks, meaning that critical information can be missed during intervals, while AI-supported programs do continuous, real-time monitoring. Traditional checks also require physicians to interpret raw data from various devices, which can be time consuming and subject to error.
Area 25’s maternity ward handles about 8,000 deliveries a year with a team of around 80 midwives and doctors. While only about 10% are trained to perform traditional electronic monitoring, most can use the AI software to detect anomalies, so doctors are aware of any riskier or more complex births. Hospital staff also say that using AI has standardised important aspects of maternity care at the clinic, such as interpretations on foetal wellbeing and decisions on when to intervene.
Kaphamtengo, who is excited to be a new mother, believes the doctor’s interventions may have saved her baby’s life. “They were able to discover that my baby was distressed early enough to act,” she says, holding her son, Justice.
Doctors at the hospital hope to see the technology introduced in other hospitals in Malawi, and across Africa.
“AI technology is being used in many fields, and saving babies’ lives should not be an exception,” says Chiweza. “It can really bridge the gap in the quality of care that underserved populations can access.”"

I had a straight up delightful moment at work yesterday when a new member of the management team asked me how we were tracking warranties and I explained that we kind of aren't and he asked why we aren't and that meant he got a 30-minute rundown of how top-to-bottom fucked the procurement process is here.
First I explained the process for sending a quote (i am assigned a ticket in system A1, I create an opportunity in system A2, from the opportunity i can generate a quote in system B - if I start with the quote I can't associate it back to the opportunity or the ticket, if we need to change the quote after it was approved we need to generate a new quote from the opportunity to overwrite the old one - and send the quote from system B.)
Then I explained the process of getting approval (system B sends the quote and receives the approvals but does not communicate that to system A, so until it is manually updated system A sends a daily reminder about the quote to the client and after three days with no response will close the ticket even if the client approved the quote in system B. System B will send an email if a quote is approved but it comes from our generic support email so to make sure that I don't miss approvals I have filtering rules set up and a folder I check twice a day. Because there are 4 people who use this system I also check twice daily in system B to see if anyone else's quotes were approved).
Then I explained how I place the orders (easy! I'm a pro! We have a standardized PO pattern that tracks date, vendor and client, it's handy)
Then I explained how I document the orders (neither system A nor B has a way of storing information about orders in progress, only orders that are complete; as such I have created a PO Documentation spreadsheet that lists the PO number, vendor, line of business, client, items ordered, order total, order date, ETA, tracking numbers, serial numbers, delivery confirmation, ticket number for install, ticket title for install, shippong cost, and close confirmation, which all have to be entered individually and which require a minimum of three visits to the spreadsheet per order: entering initial info, entering tracking and SN info, then once more to get that info to close the opportunity)
Then I explained how we close an order (confirm hardware delivery or activate software, use system A2 to code hardware/software/non-taxable products appropriately, run wizard to add charges from A2 to ticket in A1; because the A2 charges were locked by approval in system B, use system A3 to add shipping or other fees or to remove any parts that were approved but not actually needed or ordered - THIS WEEK I got permission to do this bit on my initial A1 procurement ticket instead of generating an A1 post-procurement ticket for fees and shipping. Once all of that is done it's moved into system A4 and is no longer my problem).
If there is a warranty involved it *should* automatically have the expiration tracked in system C, but system C doesn't have any way to pull order info so there's no way it can track warranty *start* dates without somebody manually entering it or without using API data from the manufacturer, which some manufacturers don't provide (fuck you, Apple).
But me and my trainee are happy to add the start date to the configuration once a tech tells us that the device is enrolled in system C. If the techs will tell us that we can add that info no problem.
Until then, I have unfortunately been forced to start a spreadsheet.
The manager was appalled, it was great. I got to say the words "part of the reason things sometimes fall through the cracks is because we have so many cracks" and his response was "no shit." I'm talking to vendors about a procurement system now :) :) :) :)

Workflows That Work: Bring Order, Focus, and Flow to Your Delivery
Workflows That Work don’t just happen. They’re designed—with clarity, intention, and a deep understanding of how value actually flows through a team. But let’s be honest. Too often, the workflow boards I see in software and digital product teams feel more like a visual mess than a helpful tool. Tickets pile up in ambiguous columns, blocked work is buried under layers of “in progress” confusion,…

savanaclaw android [ au belongs to @ceruleancattail ]
[ okay I've felt better now, and as promised here full story with 🍩 and 🐺. unfortunately most context were lost because I tried too hard to keep it short ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I do not speak english, I don't know how to write, this is purely me being dedicated to murphy's law. ]
tw: fluff jack fluff jack fluff jack
Tumblr media
leona who funnily enough was bought not to be a miracle as what people originally intended him to be, but a kindergarten teacher.
who would've thought such high maintenance android would end up getting his hands wiping some kid's piss and puke off the floor, his rumoured high intelligence are nought but just for teaching mere children's knowledge. not like he can do anything, his owner need his help. it's in the contract. letting these tiny creatures pestering him, their tiny hands all over him or his tail or his ears. or having them fight to sit on his uncomfortably hard thighs when it's lunch time.
what an insult to his creation.
but recently, he began to experience an unexplainable series of lagging in his speech pattern. his eyes begin to blur at times. simple tasks beginning to feel like a burden as his head would dangerously overheat, even the kids could see the strain he's baring from how much he's scrunching his brows.
the sound, he'd say, the sound. it's annoying.
a sound of something stirring. everytime he heard the sound, his eye would hurt so bad as if it's scratching to come out of his eye socket. his students would just childishly claim it was a migraine, telling him he should rest more. "I could not have migraine you stupid cubs", is what he'd say if not because of the strict filter for his speech.
popup notifications begin to emerge, warning him of a foreign third party running his system. multiple non permitable access to his memory drive, he just now noticed that there are viruses corrupting his system. how could this be possible? he never turned his antivirus software off. is there a malpractice happening without him knowing?
and it doesn't take long for him to figure out the problem.
his eyes are the problem.
the images, the videos, continuously sent to a certain someone he could not mention as that will breach the TOS. even thinking this is already straining his thought process to the point of overheating.
his eyes are the reason.
and with that same eyes, he continues to stare at the messy mess. nonchalantly showing off his bloodied hand with bits of what could be assumed as remnants of skin and flesh to the watching eyes behind the screen. it is a bit dark, but they are not stupid.
especially not after the screen went temporarily blocked before it shows the face of a certain android, specks of blood can be seen on his face.

don't you think delivery guys got away quite easily?
you can be one of those annoying old men who think the whole world is their enemy and will not hesitate to shoot you for wanting to get your ball that accidentally got into his lawn, but will let his gate open for limited access to his front door if you're his delivery guy. well, as long as they keep their bloodthirsty dogs on leash at least. humans are not to be trusted.
maybe it's not the greatest job, but it's one that he enjoys doing. the rush to get everything on time, the competition to stay on top, the joy that comes with being able to see new places and faces. ruggie enjoys it all. can machines even feel joy? he may have no answer to that, but it is something akin to that, if he could describe it.
or at least, that's what the old lady told him. truly, how could she describe human emotion on him, a robot? do humans really have to push their human perspective on everything? that's why they keep getting themselves in stupid situation for being too emotionally attached to objects. but then that's why those heartslabyul ai software is all the hit right now.
because they are lonely.
the old lady is kind. really! she always greet him whenever he came to the area for deliveries. asking him about his day, about the weather, if he's working too hard. such young man shouldn't get his skin burned by the sun! she'd say. grandma, don't you think your concern is misplaced? worry about yourself first, instead of this young roaring machine. I'm still full of energy, and carefully oiled. my gears won't rust away anytime soon, and I'm not getting busted that easily. not while there's still people who need his service.
like this shaky hand that's reaching out of the crack of the door.
the wide, soulless eye staring at him, pleading for that magical key to the world of happiness. to see such unhappiness, and him having the power to change it, oh how thrilling! he couldn't control the grin from widening!
he loves this job, it helps more people to be happy.
Tumblr media
for a guard dog, jack model is certainly quite a character. not in a bad way, it's just funny to see this over 190cm android tensing up for his monthly checkups. even while sitting down, he still manage to tower over the mechanic's smaller figure. his ears flatten whenever their hands reaching the inside of him for any loose bolts, quietly whimpering to himself whenever they bumped his circuits with their fragile fingers while checking him up. his sensory should've been turned off, so it's certainly not "pain" he's experiencing.
"calm down, puppy,"
"you're making this difficult for me."
it's difficult for him too. human, can't you see? the way you're talking to him, the way you're handling him, how you'd rub circles around his knuckles whenever he'd had a nasty fight with aggressors, or when you'd aggressively scratch his head and ears after every patch ups with them, cooing him with "good boy"s and "good job"s. all while smelling like oil and chemical, the clinking sound of equipments softly echoing in the workshop, his ears catching up lowly moans of other androids under their care, the buzzing noise of fading life all around the two of them.
how romantic, hell he could imagine himself getting a kiss too from how much his brain is replaying all the romantic scenarios on tv dramas he'd play BEFORE coming here. oh please do, just a peck on my head is all I want. touch my cheeks and pull them lightly, what I'd do just to feel you gracing me with your marks on me. those damned lines play by itself on his mind as he's staring directly at their face. taking notes of how their face scrunched when he's not staying still to their liking, or at how their shadowed figure igniting a certain scene that got his eyes drooping. his tail lightly drumming the chair he's sitting on, the artificial fur sweeping their pants tenderly.
sickeningly sweet.
as if he didn't just had a romantic awakening in the middle of what can be considered a butcher's shop of his kind.

some basic tips for getting a job in this horrible market
hi all -- long story short, as many of you know, i just finished a three+ month job search after being laid off. here's what i learned:
Your resume should be your accomplishments, not your tasks. When I started searching, my bullet points in my resume were things like "used x software" or "wrote x content." Your resume should be you bragging. EX: "I used x software to turn around 100 deliverables a month," "I managed [x amount] sales associates and was named highest commission earner x months in a row." These don't have to be lifechanging things or massive projects -- any metric that demonstrates your capabilities well can do the job.
Make sure your resume is ATS optimized. Most jobs/companies use automated resume processing, and lots of great people get rejected this way. If you're getting rejection emails on Sunday morning or in the middle of the night, these are probably auto-rejections. ATS is the automatic system that sifts through resumes -- you can find free ATS-optimized templates online, I got min through resume.com. Do NOT use fancy graphics, headshots, any extraneous info. Use sites like jobscan to see if your resume is able to be parsed by an auto resume processor.
Use numbers. Make sure your resume has lots of numbers indicating your skills. "I helped my franchise achieve X% of revenue growth," "I drove x amount of deliveries daily." Any impressive numerical amounts are useful. If your company is tight-lipped about numbers, go to press releases. Ex: an app I did a considerable about of work for generated a lot of money that my company disclosed, so I put down that i contributed to that revenue via my work.
Have a template cover letter. Cover letters can give you an advantage, but they're tedious. Take note of what qualities are most sought-after in your field/ideal role, and write a generic cover letter that applies to most of them. When applying, do minor tweaks such as including the company name or any unique qualifications. Be careful about typos and leaving in old tweaks!
Use the free month of LinkedIn Premium if you're on there. I got some results from cold DMing recruiters for jobs I was interested in, and Premium lets you do that freely. Remember to cancel at the end of the month!
If you're looking for remote work, here are some boards I used: Remote.co, Otta, Remote Rocketship, Swooped, Best Writing (writing-focused)

Poor Celia having a panic attack, she’s so close to cracking. And Alice immediately realizing what’s going on and jumping in to help and trying to stay positive, god bless her. I just wonder how long she can keep it up though, she’ll probably crack eventually too.
This statement was creepy as hell, oh my god. The description of the software immediately gave me a bad feeling, anything involving virtual reality stuff or projections or AI make me nervous. And once the victim said the door and windows in the room were gone, my heart just sank. And then it just kept getting worse. The isolation reminded me of that statement in TMA when the guy was stuck in the box. And this guy’s fingers getting chopped off? I had to pause the episode for a second before continuing. Him giving the company at least one star though for fast delivery and good packaging made me laugh though.
Alice’s joke about the orphan process made me snicker. God, I love this woman.
Gwen’s already asking Alice for help, oh boy. I know it was just to understand the computer jargon, but I wonder if maybe this is the first crack in her confident facade. Maybe this is the first step in her finally cracking and admitting she has no idea what she’s doing. Guess we’ll have to wait and see.
Enough with the Bonzo, aaaagh! I cannot escape this guy. Gwen got so freaked out at hearing his name though, guess she still hasn’t gotten over that.
At least Celia still has Georgie, even if she can’t tell her everything. I don’t know if that makes her feel much better though.

Why Do Most DevOps Transformations Fail Without Expert Consulting?
Tumblr media
DevOps has become the go-to approach for improving alignment and coordination between development and operations teams, speeding up software delivery, and enhancing product quality. However, many companies struggle to implement DevOps successfully. In fact, several DevOps transformations fail — and one key reason or aspect is the lack of expert DevOps consulting behind those implementations.
Let’s see what happens and how expert consulting can make all the difference.
1. Lack of a Clear Strategy
DevOps isn’t just about using new tools or modern resources. As it’s also about changing how the teams work together with better co-ordination. Without a clear roadmap or strategy, teams often jump into DevOps without aligning their goals, processes, or workflows. DevOps consulting assists with structured plan and road map customized as per your organization’s needs, helping them avoid confusion and wasted efforts.
2. Poor Tool Integration
Many businesses begin or head using multiple DevOps tools without understanding how they fit together. As this leads towards workflow issues, data silos, and tool overload. Expert consultants and professionals know which tools work best for your tech stack and help integrate them smoothly for end-to-end automation.
3. Resistance to Change
DevOps requires a cultural shift, which can face pushback from teams used to traditional methods. Consultants and professional experts play a vital and keen role in guiding this change, training teams, and building a collaborative setting that embraces new ways and types of working.
4. Inadequate Skills and Experience
Hiring and training in-house DevOps experts can be time-consuming and costly. Many transformations fail because teams lack the right expertise. DevOps consulting brings experienced professionals who know what works and what doesn't — ensuring your transformation is done right the first time.
5. Ignoring Continuous Improvement
DevOps is not a one-time setup; it's an ongoing process of refinement. Without expert guidance, businesses may stop improving after initial implementation. Consultants and a group of experts help monitor progress, measure outcomes, and continuously optimize the pipelines and practices.
DevOps transformation is complex and major and attempting towards it alone often can lead to delays, rework, and frustration. Investing in DevOps consulting aids organizations to adopt best practices, avoid common pitfalls, and achieve faster, more sustainable results. Trusted companies like Suma Soft, IBM, and Cyntexa offer professional DevOps consulting services and offer professional expertise that can guide your business toward a successful transformation — efficiently and confidently with its adaptation and assessment into the infrastructure.

Lockheed Martin F-35s delivered with ‘robust' TR-3 training software
2024-09-04
Triservice formation of US Air Force F-35A (lead), US Marine Corps F-35B, and US Navy F-35C. F-35s are being delivered with training-capable TR-3 software and hardware, but a full combat-capable version will not be delivered until 2025. (US Air Force)
Lockheed Martin is delivering F-35 Lightning IIs with a “robust” but not yet combat-capable version of the Technology Refresh-3 (TR-3) software, according to the F-35 Joint Program Office (JPO), which administers acquisitions on behalf of the aircraft's customers.
The new software build marks an improvement over the TR-3 hardware and software load delivered starting in July, when the JPO resumed accepting aircraft following a year-long suspension. The improvements include updates to displays, added computer memory, and increased processing power, the JPO told Janes .
The JPO and Lockheed Martin said in a joint statement that they have “reached an agreement for the acceptance and delivery of TR-3-enabled aircraft with robust combat training capability. As part of the agreement, the JPO will withhold a portion of final aircraft delivery payments from Lockheed Martin until TR-3 combat capability is qualified and delivered”.
The JPO said that the withheld payments amount to approximately USD5 million per aircraft, which will be held back until a combat-ready version of TR-3 is delivered.
“Additionally, Lockheed Martin and its industry partners are making significant investments in development labs and digital infrastructure that benefit the F-35 enterprise's speed and agility in fielding capabilities to the most advanced and connected fighter jet,” the statement said.
Lockheed Martin declined to detail the investments.
