Me: I need to rewrite my fanchildren being babies again
Also Me: *goes back and rereads a work I did about them being children to get reacquainted, but only succeeds in making myself more obsessed with the idea* *Incoherent muttering, planning, and squealing*
Sadie, Sorrel, Kane, Mica, and Rhett are five; London and Diego are four; and Selah is one in this
Exists in vacuum of space after the movie
---
Saki tiredly pushed the door to Donnie's lab open, legs almost giving out from running around chasing Diego for thirty minutes. The aforementioned softshell turned in his chair and pulled his goggles up.
"What's wrong?" he wondered, taking in her slumped form.
"I really need you to watch them..." the tanuki desperately tried to keep her eyes open. "...while I take a nap."
He hums. "Where are they?"
"Somewhere behind me..." she trails off, leaving to make it to their bed before she could collapse.
He sighs, pushes away from his desk, and goes off in search of his four kids. He quickly finds them in the spacious living room, guided by shouts. London and Diego were having a fight of dominance while Sorrel, Mica, and Selah were casually putting coloring books to use and Sadie and Rhett were not-so-discretely messing with Splinter as he slept on his couch chair. Kane was nowhere in sight, probably 'helping' his dad in the kitchen or something.
Donnie rarely ever has times where he thinks he really was never ready for parenthood, but now was definitely one of those times. With the much-needed assistance of his spider-shell, he began collecting his kids one by one.
Diego whined when he was removed from his winning battle. "Why do we have to leave? I wanna keep playing with London!"
"Your mother left me in charge of you while she sleeps, and that means I have to keep you four cretins in my lab for now," Donnie explained.
Diego huffed and folded his arms across his chest as best he could. Sorrel was still managing to color in the book she had dragged along when she was picked up. Selah was quiet, and Sadie was just as upset as her brother was.
Donnie finally arrived back in his lab. He closed the door behind them and had half a mind to turn the lights on a little brighter. Diego immediately ran for something he shouldn't touch as soon as he was released, making Donnie get up a second after settling in his chair to stop him. Sorrel handed Selah a few markers and they continued on the pages. Sadie got Diego to pass a paper ball from the trash back and forth with her.
Their dad was able to return to his project now. He sat with a hmpf back in his chair and pushed his goggles back down. He hadn't even been working for five minutes before a hand tugged on his elbow.
He groaned, not bothering to look in the offending child's way or take his goggles back off. "Yes?"
"I'm thirsty, Daddy," Sadie told him innocently.
Donnie was sure she wasn't innocent in her intentions now. "There's cups and a water dispenser in the back you can reach."
"But I'm only thirsty for kitchen water, Daddy," Sadie's bottom lip wobbled. Oh no. "Please can you get me some?"
And there it is. Donnie steeled himself to resist. It barely worked.
"There's cups and a water dispenser in the back," he repeated.
"Please!" Sadie begged, lip wobbling more.
Donnie's resolve to give in shattered. "Fine! Fine, yes, I will get you some water from the kitchen, but if any of you so much as--"
Diego was already gone.
Pizza Supreme in the sky, he wasn't ready for parenthood.
Sadie instantly perked up. "Thanks, Daddy! I'll stay put, I promise!"
Donnie would make sure of that. By taking the remaining three children with him.
He dragged them along to the kitchen, just to see Diego back to wrestling London to the floor and re-securing his victory over her. He startled halfway to the ceiling when his twin spoke, suddenly beside him.
"Hey, London, come on, you can beat him," Leo encouraged.
The black-masked girl adjusted her head to face her father and beamed at him. Diego got briefly distracted by this, giving London the opportunity to shove him off and pin him.
Donnie frowned. Leo cheered.
"Yeah, that's better! A winner, just like her old man!" Leo exclaimed, nudging Donnie. "See that, DonTon?"
"All I see is an insufferable dum-dum who just encouraged his daughter to potentially injure my only son's shell," Donnie didn't give Leo a chance to protest before heading into the kitchen.
"I was just trying to boost her winning attitude," Leo muttered when he recovered from the completely uncalled for blow. "Not my fault Diego didn't have his protection on."
Donnie snatched a cup from the drying rack next to the sink, filled it in the dispenser built into the fridge, and handed it over to Sadie. He got himself a cup afterward.
Mikey skipped into the room a second later. All eyes turned to him. Selah abandoned her post by Sorrel's side, waddled over to Mikey, and made grabby hands up at him. The box turtle smirked at Donnie before lifting her into the air.
"Well, if it isn't my favorite niece!" Mikey nuzzled Selah's cheek.
"Hey!" Sadie whined, dropping her water. "I thought I was your favorite!"
Mikey glanced down at the other girl, staring up at him with that cursed wobbling lip. Donnie, meanwhile, cleaned the spilled water off the floor.
"You can't use my own trick against me!" Mikey protested.
Selah's eyes locked onto the tails of Mikey's mask. She reached back and tugged so hard the mask slipped off. Mikey blinked in surprise before gently setting Selah back down, who was now chewing on the mask.
"I'm gonna need that back..." Mikey whispered, bending over to slowly try to grab the spit-soaked mask.
Selah chirped and held it away. Mikey sighed and stood back straight, eyeing his amused older brother.
"I better get that back washed and dryed later."
Donnie nodded. "Sure thing, Michael."
Mikey left, but not before muttering something under his breath. Donnie returned his attention to his three (present) kids and left his cup in the sink to find Diego again. But not before running into Raph with a desperately-trying-to-stay-awake Rhett sitting on his shoulder.
"Oh, Don, hey," the snapper greeted. "Wanna go to the Hidden City with Raph and Tomio after I put this little man to bed?"
"...no...bed..." Rhett protested sleepily.
Sadie leapt expertly up her dad's back and leaned her face in front of his. "Pleassssseeeee can we go?!"
Donnie hefted her up and off of his head. "You cannot, and Saki still isn't awake yet, sorry Raph."
"That's alright, next time," Raph offered a smile and headed to his room to put Rhett to bed.
Donnie pressed Sadie closer when he vanished. Sorrel and Selah were scooped up too.
"Perks of having long arms," Donnie praised himself.
He carried them all back into the living room a short walk away. Splinter was still in his couch chair, but seemed to have woken up. Diego was intently watching the show that was playing on the projector with London and Mica. Donnie came up from behind.
"Mind watching them for a minute, Pops?"
The rat startled and nearly fell out of his chair. "Oh, uh, sure, Purple."
"Great, I'll be right back," Donnie released the three kids in his arms, who all thankfully darted to watch the show too.
He hurried to his and Saki's repurposed room. He glanced at the kid's beds before his eyes landed on theirs where a small lump was curled in the middle. He went over and slowly lifted up the covers to reveal the sleeping form of the tanuki he so loved.
"Saki," he whispered.
The tortoiseshell cat only curled up tighter. He tossed the covers so that she wouldn't be under them anymore. This made her uncurl and stretch before shifting back into her actual form.
"There she is," Donnie said.
Saki let out a weak hiss, blindly reaching for the blankets. "And here I am not."
She yanked the blanket back over her body, but not covering her head, and closed her eyes again. He sighed and got under the covers too. She turned her body so her back was facing him, regretted it, and turned back to wrap her arms around him. He let her, despite his normal aversion to physical affection (he always held a softspot for her and Mikey and anything soft).
"The kids are okay, right?" she asked after a while.
"Mmhm," He hummed in confirmation.
"Good," she nuzzled closer. "They didn't cause trouble?"
"Nothing I couldn't handle," he replied with a yawn. "You're making me sleepy now."
She chuckled. "Give into it, it feels nice. Whoever is watching them can handle it, I'm sure."
He let his eyes slip closed. She followed suit soon after. About an hour or so into their nap, Splinter found his way into the room with four kids practically falling asleep on their feet. He was just going to shout, but noticed the slow rising and falling of Donnie's and Saki's chests, so he stopped himself.
Sadie, Sorrel, Selah, and Diego all stumbled over to the bed. Splinter had to help Selah up then left silently so as to not wake anyone. The four kids glanced at each other mischievously before squirming their way between their parents. Donnie, ever the heavy sleeper when he does fall asleep, didn't wake up when they did so, but Saki did.
She backed up a little to accommodate her kids between them, waited for them to all close their eyes, then re-closed hers with a soothing purr.

I have a genuine question being Aroace but I'm afraid to ask and my headcanon will go to waste.
But KMKY's Ford always seemed to be at least in some way the aroace look (being demi or gray that is), did you do it out of want, in the idea of looking, or is it just part of the character and you never thought of yourself in a sexuality for him?
I can definitely see Ford being ace!
I myself am demisexual so I definitely think some of that perspective leeched into how I write Ford. Because my own experience informed how I wrote him, little things like being kind of oblivious/frustrated when strangers flirt with him (the hand witch or the girl from college who worked in the aquarium with the legwarmers lmao) because they don't know him!!! So how dare they!!! Lmao, falling for Bill's mind first since it didn't really matter that he was a shape or a muse or whatever, the rest would work itself out, feeling seen and only crushing initially because it seemed like his mind was being appreciated first and foremost, and treating their sex life like an experiment/engaging with the kinks/power plays inherent rather than just going through the motions (because kink makes more sense sometimes than just some undefined biological urge that you're supposed to have but no one can explain it to you, yet it's perfectly understandable to go 'oh they like feeling powerless as a powerful being I understand that perfectly, now how can I get creative with it'.)
I definitely think he wanted romantic attention from Bill, and wanted to be valued romantically (hence going on a date with Susan and Cathy Crenshaw) but the idea of getting romantic attention from a stranger is unappealing (hence why he was so reluctant to go on the date with Susan) and wanted the sort of holistic acceptance that comes with ideas of romance (because then his polydactylism will be accepted along with his unique mind) but the traditional trappings of romantic relationships aren't that appealing (was worried that he would have to engage in gay culture/grow a moustache and have a makeover to be in this relationship ECT). Bill was great for him BC he accepted and actively sought out all of Ford's weirdness and the dark bits you're ashamed to show, and then got freaky with them lmao. And there's no way to cement a bond quicker than to show someone your most vulnerable parts and have them accept those things unconditionally. Turning shame into dependence right there. That truly is the no one knows you like I do trap, and that shit feels inescapable.
Because of my own experience I know that you can be demisexual and still have a preference for gender or looks, hence why he built the "flattering vessel" for Bill to not only be flattering by beauty standards in general but also subconsciously to be exactly what Ford found attractive. The kicker is that personality means more than good looks, so when Bill inhabited the body in a different way than Stanford expected but he still found his personality all the more fascinating because of it, that was probably what cinched his feelings BC he got to know more about Bill's weirdness and see how it matched his own.
I am giving you a big virtual hug anon BC no head canon is ever wasted, how you engage with a story you like is important and you deserve to feel seen and heard when you engage in content you like. If I can go some way towards making the fandom of this fic a safe welcoming place it's my privilege to do so as a writer!

having the hc that minato is ace is incredibly funny sometimes when you think about how ryoji is oh so very bi because it's like. "ah. death stole my ability to be attracted to people," in the same way that ryoji stole minato's eye color and energy level. like wow, thanks ryoji, you just keep finding things to steal from minato!
#persona 3 spoilers#minato arisato#hc and au nonsense#lizzy speaks#happy international asexuality day to my fellow aces out there i hope you know that you are loved!!! 🎊🎉🥳#i like viewing minato with the lens of him being gay / ace. esp bc it stems from my own experiences so it's fun to look at-#him from that perspective even if that's not what was intended by atlus y'know?#and im sure others have other hcs from me that are informed by their own life experiences and i think that's great ^_^#something that i found interesting while playing FES was how. stilted? minato's animations felt when hugging the girls#you could definitely go with the perspective that it's a graphical limitation or they didn't have time to polish the animations#and that's def true!! but sometimes i see the hug @ yakushima beach + the other hugs and then i compare it to the sou/yo hug in p4#and there's like... a noticeable difference to me with how intimate and close together the hugs are...#that said i do know that the animations for reload are updated and the hugs are much more natural (good on them tbh!)#the other thing is (pensive sigh). the way you couldn't reject any of the girls when doing their social links in FES#objectively speaking i'm glad that they did away with that and i like how the rejections were handled in reload. it feels naturally written#but also a part of me enjoyed looking at the “hey atlus what the FUCK” moment and thought of how to interpret it differently#specifically with the idea of minato having like.. little to no autonomy and kind of going along with the relationship#it kind of reminded me of myself tbh with like going along with the rship without considering what you want bc#it's what others want or expect out of you... LOL. i dont think atlus intended for someone to interpret it this way but#eh i think that's the fun part of hcs and looking at characters with certain lenses!#regardless of how you perceive minato i do think there's something to be said about him being the kind of guy who molds himself-#into someone that is needed. not wanted. but needed. important distinction here.#the one caveat my brain runs into when im like “minato is ace!” is when i remember thanatos exists and i go#“you know what these ideas can exist simultaneously” GKLHFHDFHD when in doubt schrodinger's headcanons#anyway that's all i've had this thought in my brain in awhile and haven't sat down to share it properly until now 👍#have an excellent weekend everyone !!! lizzy loves you all lets all nurture our inner yippee!!! 🥺💙

Man at some point I really need to post my Thoughts in Doctor Who as a whole (especially if Alfie can't be persuaded to) bc I think I've come to the decision that 7 (Sylvester McCoy) is my favourite which. Seems to be something of a hot take? But ties pretty well I to my thoughts as a whole
Because he's SILLY. his run is loud and camp and silly!! But he's got this steel at his core and it balances in a way I think alot of new who doesn't quite hit
Which is to lead into me saying I absolutely love Ncuti but I think I really dislike his Doctor. Not because of any of his acting choices but as ever bc of the material he's being given. Dude ABSOLUTELY has the raw charisma needed to carry the sort of goofy hypercompetancy that the Doctor is, he's just very very often left being like. Well I don't know what's going on or who any of these people are, guess I'll have a cry about it until somebody else fixes the problem. Which COULD be read as a statement on how the Doctor is not a monolith and is very much defined by their companions and their capacity to inspire people! But. It. Doesn't really come across as that well to me

── .✦ Luffy:
The sun is hot on your back as you lean over the Sunny’s railing. Waves crash below, sparkling like tiny stars in the ocean.
You sigh, but it’s not a sad sigh, just… tired.
Luffy’s jacket hangs off your shoulders, far too big, smelling faintly of salt and him. He’d dropped it on you earlier without a word, like he always did. Just something that happened now, the way you always saved the last bite of your food for him, or how he tucked your hair behind your ear when you weren’t paying attention.
“Oi! You’re making a weird face!”
You jump a little, turning around fast.
Luffy’s standing behind you, hands on his hips, grinning like he knows something you don’t. Which he usually does.
“I am not” you say.
“You are” he says “That’s your thinking-too-much face. I don’t like that one.”
You squint at him “You don’t like my face?”
Luffy laughs and walks up, grabbing your hand “Nah. I like your laughing face way better.”
Your heart does that stupid flip again. Luffy is always like this… saying small, silly things that hit you like cannonballs. You wonder if he even realizes what they do to you, or if he just lives like this, naturally, saying the exact thing you need to hear without trying.
He tugs your arm “Come eat meat with me.”
“I’m not hungry.”
“You will be when you see Sanji’s new meatball thing. He said he made it just for me. That means it’s good.”
You don’t want to argue, so you follow him. His hand stays in yours as you walk. He doesn’t look at you, doesn’t even think about it, like holding your hand is the most natural thing in the world.
And maybe it is. Maybe with him, all the strange, lovely things you thought you'd never have just… are.
The kitchen is loud. Usopp and Chopper are arguing about who can eat more. Sanji is yelling at Zoro to stop drinking straight from the soup pot. Nami rolls her eyes at everything. And through it all, Luffy’s hand stays in yours until he lets go just to sit.
Luffy sits down at the table and pats the spot next to him “Here. Sit.”
You sit.
Sanji brings over a plate with a small mountain of meatballs.
“Special recipe” he says, setting it down.
“Only for idiots who eat too fast and the people dumb enough to love them.”
“Yay!” Luffy cheers “That’s me!”
You raise an eyebrow at Sanji. He just smirks and walks off.
Luffy hands you a meatball. You take it. You chew slowly. He doesn’t. He shovels in three at once and nearly chokes. You thump his back.
“Maybe you shouldn’t eat too fast” you say.
“Too good,” he says between bites “Can’t stop.”
You laugh a little. He grins at you with his mouth full, face messy, eyes shining.
And somehow, in that moment, you feel more at home than you’ve ever felt on land. You bump your foot lightly against his under the table and don’t pull it away. He nudges back without missing a beat.
Later, when everyone’s tired and full, and the stars are peeking out, Luffy sits on the deck with you again. He lies down and folds his arms behind his head.
“Did you still have the weird face?”
“No” you say softly.
“Good.”
There’s a pause. The wind is gentle tonight. Your fingers inch toward his on the wooden deck until they touch. He doesn’t say anything, just shifts his pinky so it loops around yours.
You look at him and wonder if he knows. If he knows how much he saved you. If he knows that before this ship, before him, life felt so small.
“You’re thinking again” he says without opening his eyes.
“Yeah.”
“I’ll be your captain forever, y’know.”
You blink “What?”
Luffy opens one eye and smiles at you.
“Even if you leave the crew. Even if you fly away like a bird. I’ll still be your captain. Okay?”
Your throat feels tight. You don’t say anything. You just nod and lie down next to him.
The stars look different from here. Brighter. Bigger.
Just like everything since you met him.
That night you have a nightmare... you often dream of fire.
It’s not real, not anymore. But the smoke curls around your chest when you wake up, and your heart races like you’re still running.
You sit up fast, hand on your chest. You're sweating.
The bed is warm beside you, a tangle of blankets and the faint imprint of Luffy’s sleeping form. He must’ve gone when he felt you stir.
Outside, the sea is calm. The ship creaks gently like it’s breathing.
You step outside the bedroom, careful not to wake anyone. The deck is dark, quiet. The kind of quiet that feels too loud when you’re carrying a storm inside.
You lean on the railing, gripping it hard. Trying to stop your hands from shaking.
You don’t hear Luffy approach. You never do.
“Bad dream?” he says softly.
You nod.
He doesn’t ask more. He just sits beside you on the wooden deck, cross-legged like a kid.
You look at him. He’s staring out at the ocean.
You whisper, “I wasn’t a good person before this. I did some things... things I can’t forget.”
Luffy shrugs “That’s okay.”
You blink “Okay?”
“You’re good now.”
Your breath catches “But—”
“I don’t care what you did. I care what you do now. You protect people. You laugh with us. You love this ship.”
You bite your lip “Sometimes I think I don’t deserve to be happy.”
Luffy’s head tilts “Why?”
“Because I hurt people. I made bad choices.”
He frowns, serious now “Everyone hurts people. Even me. You ever see me not punch someone?”
“That’s different.”
“Why?” he says “Because I’m the captain?”
You open your mouth, then close it.
He scoots closer, his leg bumping yours “Listen. I don’t pick people because they’re perfect. I pick people who need a place. You needed one. So I gave you mine.”
Your eyes sting.
“And if you’re scared sometimes... that’s fine. I’ll be scared with you.”
You let out a shaky laugh “That’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard.”
Luffy grins “Thanks.”
Then he does something rare.
He reaches out and pulls you into a hug.
It’s warm and a little awkward, his chin bumps your shoulder, but his arms are strong. Solid.
Safe.
You lean into him, just for a second. Just long enough to feel like maybe… maybe you can breathe again.
“I still got you,” he says “No matter what.”
The next morning, you’re quiet at breakfast.
Not sad, just full in a way that makes your chest feel warm. Luffy sits beside you like always, stealing half your toast without asking.
You don’t stop him. You just shake your head like you always do and let your knee rest against his under the table.
“Oi, Luffy, chew!” Sanji shouts from the stove “Don’t scare them off with your lizard face.”
Luffy puffs out his cheeks “I am chewing!”
You shake your head “Barely.”
He grins at you with crumbs on his lips “You finally smiled.”
“Huh?”
“You smiled at me,” he says, like it’s some great discovery “I like that.”
You feel your cheeks heat up.
Chopper climbs onto the bench next to you “You look different today,” he says thoughtfully “Lighter.”
“Maybe you finally slept” Nami adds, sipping her coffee.
“Maybe someone got a good hug last night...” Usopp says, wiggling his eyebrows.
You nearly choke on your juice.
Luffy doesn’t react “I give good hugs.”
Zoro snorts from across the table “Not with those rubbery arms.”
You stare down at your plate, smiling to yourself.
Later, you’re helping Robin tie down books in the library when Luffy finds you again. He peeks in like a kid looking for snacks.
“There you are!” he says “Come with me.”
You follow him without asking where. That’s just how it is with Luffy. You trust him.
He takes you to the upper deck where it’s quieter. The sea stretches out endlessly, sky blue and soft.
He sits on the edge and pats the spot next to him. You sit.
“I was thinking,” he says, picking at the brim of his hat “About last night.”
You look at him, curious.
“You said you didn’t deserve to be happy.”
Your chest tightens again.
He leans back on his hands “But you look happy now.”
You nod slowly “I am.”
He grins “Told you. I’m a good captain.”
You laugh a little “You are.”
Then, softly, you say it “This happiness I have right now… it was gained simply by listening to you and following your lead.”
Luffy tilts his head, eyes wide and bright “Really?”
You nod “You gave me a place. You didn’t even know me, and you still let me stay.”
“I knew enough,” he says “You were lost. I don’t leave lost people behind.”
You look down, fiddling with the seam of your shirt “I think I was scared to feel like this. Like I belong.”
“You do.”
You glance up. His face is open, honest—Luffy in his rare, still moments.
“You really think I belong here?” you whisper.
He nods “You belong with me.”
Your breath catches.
Not “with the crew”.
Not “on the ship”.
With him.

── .✦ Law:
The storm isn’t just outside.
It’s in the way Law walks the deck—slow, sharp steps, as if each one might cut the wood beneath his feet.
You watch from where you sit near the stairs, arms tucked around your knees. He hasn’t spoken in hours.
The sky above is black. Thunder grumbles like it’s trying to decide if it wants to scream.
He doesn’t flinch.
“Go inside” he says suddenly, without looking at you.
You stay where you are.
“I said—”
“I heard you.”
Silence again.
Then: “The wind’s picking up.”
“I’m fine.”
He turns his head just enough to glance at you, eyes narrowing “You’re stubborn.”
You shrug “You’re angry.”
“I’m thinking.”
“Loudly.”
He exhales through his nose—one of those short, sharp sounds that’s not quite a laugh, not quite a sigh.
You unfold your legs and stand, walking slowly until you’re beside him. Close, but not touching.
Close enough to feel the heat of him. Close enough that if you leaned in just slightly, your shoulder would brush his. But you don’t. Not yet.
“Is it about the intel?”
“No.”
“Then it’s about the crew.”
“No.”
“Then it’s about you.”
He says nothing.
The waves crash hard against the hull. Somewhere below deck, Bepo is probably pacing, waiting for the worst of the storm to pass.
But Law… Law doesn’t wait for anything. He carries storms inside him and tries to outpace them with silence.
You speak softly “Be at ease.”
He turns to look at you now, not annoyed, just… tired.
Your hand drifts to his arm, fingers barely grazing the fabric of his sleeve. You step in, gently, like approaching a wild thing. Like you’ve done this before—offering comfort without taking anything away.
“Let me watch your back now,” you continue, voice steady “My captain.”
His eyes search your face like he’s reading something in a language he forgot long ago.
“I don’t need—”
“I know.”
You take a step closer, your fingers brushing his coat sleeve.
“I’m not offering because you need it. I’m offering because you deserve it.”
His jaw tightens.
You shift your hand just enough to slide your fingers into his, letting them rest there—quiet and warm.
“Someone has to carry the weight when you can’t,” you add “Let it be me, even if it’s just tonight.”
For a long time, he doesn’t respond.
Then finally, he murmurs, “You talk too much.”
You smile “And yet you’re still listening.”
He doesn’t smile back but his shoulders drop, just slightly. And when the next gust of wind hits, he doesn’t flinch.
Because you’re there.
Because someone’s finally watching his back.
You lean in and press a kiss to his shoulder, not dramatic, just grounding. A promise. You feel him shift slightly toward you, almost imperceptibly.
The storm passes, but the cold stays.
You and Law sit under the overhang near the helm, out of the rain but not the wind. The ship creaks with each wave, but now it’s calmer. The kind of quiet that always feels like something is waiting.
He hasn’t spoken since you told him you’d watch his back.
But he’s still here.
You’re still here.
And that’s something.
You let your head rest lightly against his shoulder. His arm doesn’t move for a long moment, then slowly, tentatively, he curls it behind you, just enough that your bodies lean into one another.
“I thought you’d leave” he says at last, voice low.
You glance at him “When?”
“After Dressrosa. After the Doflamingo fight. Most people would’ve.”
“I’m not most people.”
He makes a soft sound in his throat, something between agreement and disbelief.
Then he says it.
“I didn’t expect you to stay this long.”
You blink “Did you want me to go?”
“No” he says too quickly. Then quieter “I just thought you would.”
You wrap your arms around your knees, watching the wet deck glisten under the moonlight.
“People leave you a lot, don’t they?”
He doesn’t answer.
You don’t need him to.
You reach over and take his hand again, threading your fingers through his with the same steady warmth you always give him. Your thumb traces soft circles over the back of his hand.
You take a slow breath and shift to face him more fully.
“You don’t always have to be the one doing the saving, Law.”
His head tilts, just slightly.
You lean forward but not too close, just enough to be clear.
“I’ll protect you now.”
The wind blows your hair into your face. You don’t move it.
He’s staring at you like he doesn’t understand the words. Like no one’s ever said them to him before and meant it.
“You think I need protection?” he asks, but there’s no bite in it. No challenge.
You smile “I think you’re tired of carrying everything alone.”
For a second, just a second, his expression softens.
Not in a dramatic way. Not like in the stories.
But his eyes lose that sharp edge.
He leans back against the wood behind him, shoulders dropping just a bit more than before. As if, maybe, he’s letting the idea settle.
Letting you settle.
You shift closer again and kiss his cheek, soft and slow, just near the corner of his mouth. He closes his eyes like he’s soaking in the quiet.
You don’t push it. You just sit with him, in the silence, your presence a quiet promise:
He’s not alone anymore.
The cold settles around you both like a second skin, but here, pressed close, there’s a different kind of warmth.
You lean into him slowly, head resting against his chest this time, right where you can hear his heartbeat. At first, he’s stiff. Not resisting, but still wired tight, like his body doesn’t quite remember how to relax.
You wrap your arms around his middle, pulling him into a soft, secure hold.
He lets out a breath against your hair. It’s quiet. Almost disbelieving.
“You don’t have to be alone anymore,” you murmur into his coat “Not with me.”
You feel it when something in him finally begins to loosen. Not all at once. Not dramatically. But like a knot unspooling deep inside.
His hand comes up, hesitant at first, then rests on the back of your head. His fingers thread gently into your hair, and you close your eyes at the feeling.
He doesn’t speak.
You tilt your face up toward him.
His gaze meets yours, wary, but no longer guarded. He’s let you in. At least a little. Enough.
You smile softly “Come here.”
And before he can argue, before he can overthink it, you press your lips to his.
One kiss.
Then another. Then another.
Soft and fast, like raindrops. Like a flurry of promises falling out of you all at once, impossible to hold back.
You kiss the corner of his mouth, his top lip, the edge of his jaw, then back to his mouth again.
With each kiss, you whisper:
“I will protect you now”
“My boss”
“My leader”
“My hero”
“My captain”
“My love.”
And something in him just… gives.
His breath hitches. His hands tighten around you, not pulling you away, but drawing you in. Letting you have him like this.
He exhales like surrender. His voice is barely above a whisper.
“…Fine. Do whatever you want.”
You press your forehead to his, smiling against his skin.
“I already am.”
And he doesn’t push you away. He doesn’t retreat behind silence.
He stays.
Wrapped up in your arms. Your warmth. Your words. Your kisses.
For once, Law lets himself be held.
Tumblr media
── .✦ Shanks:
The first time you see him, it’s not on purpose.
You’re in a quiet port town, just passing through. Hiding, really. The kind of hiding that doesn’t involve running, it just means standing still long enough for the world to forget you.
Then the bar door opens.
And he walks in like he owns the ocean.
Red hair. Wide grin. A laugh that fills the room before he even speaks.
“Oi, Benn! I told you I could smell meat from a mile off!”
You glance up once and then away. You know who he is. Of course you do. Red-Haired Shanks. One of the Four Emperors. A name that carries storms.
You sip your drink and try not to look again.
It doesn’t work.
He notices.
You end up at the same table, somehow. He’s charming like that, pulls people in like the tide.
“What’s your story?” he asks casually, swirling his drink.
You shake your head “No story.”
“Everyone has one.”
“Not me.”
He smiles “You’re a terrible liar.”
You laugh despite yourself. It’s small. But he hears it.
“You’ve been drifting,” he says “I can tell.”
You pause “That obvious?”
He shrugs “Only to someone who’s done the same.”
Later, you’re sitting with him by the docks, the sea stretching out like a painting. He’s quieter now. Thoughtful.
You speak without meaning to.
“On a sea called loneliness… I’d come to lose my way.”
He turns toward you slowly, listening.
“My vision was dark. I didn’t know where I was going. I didn’t even know what I was looking for.”
Shanks doesn’t interrupt.
“But a single sailboat came close.”
He smiles faintly.
“And that happy ending became our story.”
He chuckles under his breath “You’re poetic when you’ve had rum.”
You smile, but it doesn’t fade.
“You’re the first person who didn’t ask me to explain why I left. Or who I used to be.”
“I don’t care who you were,” he says gently “Only who you are when you’re with me.”
The sea breeze lifts your hair. His eyes flick to it, and stay there a moment too long.
You don’t speak again for a while. There’s no need.
Two drifters. One sailboat. And, maybe, the start of something that doesn’t have to end in loneliness.
Years Later
The sun hangs low, golden and lazy, casting soft light across the deck of the Red Force.
Shanks is half-asleep in a chair near the railing, hat pulled down over his eyes. You’re sitting not far, feet propped up, notebook balanced on your knee. You don’t write often, at least not like this, but today feels different.
You glance at him. He’s relaxed, arms crossed loosely, the breeze playing with the hem of his coat.
Years ago, he was chaos walking. A whirlwind with a smile.
Now?
He’s still chaos. But he’s yours.
You smile and press your pen to the page.
“On a sea called L-O-V-E,
The sunlight dazzles as it reflects upon the water.
On that sailboat over there, are two people—
Just a captain and a sailor.
And that happy ending is our story.”
You pause.
Then close the notebook, leave it on the small table beside him, and go below deck. You don’t say anything. You don’t need to.
Later, just before dinner, he finds you in the galley. One arm wraps lazily around your waist from behind, pulling you in.
“I read what you wrote” he murmurs near your ear.
“Oh?”
“It was missing one thing.”
You raise a brow, glancing back at him “Yeah?”
He presses his forehead to yours “The part where the sailor becomes captain of the captain.”
You laugh, soft and full.
“In your dreams maybe” you tease.
“In our story” he corrects, grinning.
You shake your head and kiss him anyway.
It’s meant to be quick, teasing, familiar.
But Shanks doesn’t let go. His hand cups the back of your neck, thumb brushing the edge of your jaw as he kisses you again, slower this time. Deeper. Like he’s been waiting all day for this one quiet moment.
You melt into him. The galley fades, the ship fades, even the sea feels quieter.
When you finally pull apart, your forehead rests against his. Neither of you speaks right away. You don’t need to.
He closes his eye, brushing his nose against yours “You still take my breath away, you know that?”
You smile against his lips “Even when I’m just trying to steal your coat?”
“Especially then.”
He leans back, just enough to reach into his coat pocket and pulls out something small, wrapped in an old cloth. He unwraps it with care, revealing a silver ring etched with faint waves.
“Was gonna wait,” he says softly, “but then I read what you wrote.”
Your breath catches.
“It’s not a proposal, not exactly,” he continues, “but it’s a promise. That whatever seas we sail, whatever storm hits… I’m yours. No matter what.”
You stare at the ring, heart swelling in your chest “Shanks…”
He slides it onto your finger, his touch feather-light “You don’t need to wear it if you don’t want. I just... I just wanted you to have something that says what I can’t always say.”
You take his hand in yours, kissing his knuckles “You already say it. Every time you look at me like I’m not just part of your crew, but like I'm part of you.”
He chuckles, a little unsteady “You are.”
The kiss you give him now isn’t playful. It’s reverent. Grateful. Fierce and fragile all at once.
Afterward, you whisper, “My captain. My anchor.”
He kisses the corner of your mouth, then your cheek, then your forehead, murmuring between each one:
“My light. My home. My heart.”
Later, beneath a sky dusted with stars, you lie curled in the hammock together—his coat draped over both your shoulders, his hand resting over yours, thumb absently brushing the ring now on your finger.
He presses a kiss to your temple and murmurs, “I used to chase the horizon. But then I found you.”
You smile into his chest.
“I’ll chase it with you,” you say softly “As long as you want.”
He holds you tighter.
“Forever sounds good to me.”
And with the steady lull of the sea beneath you and the warmth of him around you, you sleep in the safest place you’ve ever known.
Tumblr media
── .✦ Kid:
The ship is on fire.
Well, not literally. But that’s what it feels like after the ambush.
Scorched sails. Blood on the deck. Your ribs ache, bruised or maybe cracked, and Killer’s bleeding from his arm, trying to stop Heat from collapsing.
Kid is in the middle of it all, rage and metal, torn coat, growling orders no one can follow fast enough.
“Damn it, where’s WIRE?!”
“Dead if we don’t patch him now!” you shout back, dragging your half-burned jacket off to wrap someone else’s wound.
He doesn’t answer. His jaw is clenched tight, eyes scanning everything like he’s trying to hold the whole crew together with nothing but anger and magnets.
But you’re not afraid.
You’ve seen him like this before. Broken knuckles. Cracked teeth. And still standing. Still fighting.
Still trying.
He doesn’t realize you’re next to him until your hand grabs his shoulder.
“Kid.”
He glances at you, blood across his cheek, chest rising like a storm trying not to explode.
“We’re not dead,” you say “We’re still here.”
He scoffs “Barely.”
You shake your head “You always think surviving means losing.”
“Because it is,” he snarls “Every fight takes something from us.”
“Now just breath” you snap, stepping closer “Look at me.”
His eyes go wide.
You don’t blink.
“I’ll follow you. I’ll follow you ‘til the end of my days.”
The words hit the air like thunder, loud, real, and permanent.
You lift your chin with your biggest smile.
“YES, SIR.”
Something shifts in his face, not softness, not yet. But a crack. A flicker. The kind of look someone gets when they realize they’re not alone.
His voice is low.
“You’re not scared of me?”
You grin.
“I was.”
“And now?”
“I’m yours.”
And for once, Kid doesn’t argue.
He just takes your hand, calloused and shaking, and holds on like it might be the only thing left that doesn’t burn.
The ship’s quiet now.
Not peaceful but quiet. The kind of silence that settles after screaming, after gunfire, after the medics say “He’s gonna make it” and you finally let yourself breathe.
You check on everyone first. Heat’s stable. Killer’s stitches are clean. Wire’s conscious.
Only after you’ve made sure the others are resting you walk down the hall to his door.
It’s half open.
You knock once anyway.
“…It’s open” Kid’s voice grunts from inside.
You step in.
He’s sitting on the edge of his bunk, shirt off, fresh bandages wrapping his torso and arm. His metal hand is still twitching from leftover stress—little sparks crackling at the edges.
He doesn’t look at you at first.
But he doesn’t tell you to leave.
You shut the door and walk over, slow and calm, like approaching a wild thing that might still bite.
“You good?” you ask softly.
“Peachy” he mutters, eyes on the floor.
You eye the bruise on his jaw “Looks like it.”
He grunts, but says nothing more.
You stand there for a few long seconds. Then you exhale, toss your jacket to the side, and without asking, climb onto his lap, straddling him gently.
He stiffens a little “The hell are you—?”
“Shut up.”
He blinks. You settle your weight down, arms looped around his neck, foreheads almost touching.
His breath slows.
“…You’re gonna make me soft” he mutters, voice rough.
“You are soft” you say, brushing his hair back from his face.
He huffs “Right.”
You smile.
Then, quietly, honestly, you speak “My hero.”
His jaw tenses.
“My captain.”
He doesn’t meet your eyes.
“Every day in this world feels like a battle… but you’re the captain who brought me to my victory.”
He looks up at that.
There’s a flicker of pain, disbelief, maybe guilt. He shakes his head.
“We lost.”
You don’t flinch. You bring a hand to his cheek, cupping it firmly.
“We all survived.” You lean in, eyes locked with his “Is it really a loss?”
The words hang between you, heavy and warm.
He stares at you for a long, long moment. Then finally, his voice low, almost gravel, he says “…No.”
You nod.
“Good,” you whisper “Now let me hold you until your stupid brain believes it.”
He lets you.
He even wraps his arms around you, tentative at first, then tight, like maybe you’re the anchor he didn’t know he needed until tonight.
You rest your forehead against his, feeling the tension bleeding out of him inch by inch.
His metal hand settles at your back, warmer than it should be. Steady.
“You always this bossy?” he grumbles, voice low but not annoyed. Almost… fond.
You grin “Only when you’re being dramatic.”
“Dramatic? I got impaled.”
“And still talking,” you say sweetly, brushing your nose against his “Clearly not fatal.”
A quiet sound escapes him, not quite a laugh, but really close. He pulls you closer, jaw pressing to your shoulder, voice muffled against your skin.
“You scare the hell out of me sometimes.”
You smile “Good. Keeps you on your toes.”
You shift slightly, just enough to ghost a kiss across his cheekbone. Then another, soft at the corner of his mouth. Then one more right on his lips, softer and a bit longer.
He exhales, like you’ve stolen all the fire out of him with that one simple touch.
You whisper against his mouth, “I meant what I said.”
“I know.”
“My hero.”
He groans lightly “You’re gonna kill me with that shit.”
“My captain” you say again, this time planting a kiss under his jaw.
“I’ll throw you overboard” he warns half-heartedly, pulling you tighter.
“No you won’t.”
He doesn’t argue.
You rest your head against his chest, listening to the slow thump of his heart, and he buries his fingers in your hair like it’s the only thing grounding him.
“You’re the only thing that makes this worth it” he mumbles after a while.
You grin again, eyes closed “Took you long enough.”
“Shut up.”
You don’t.
You just nuzzle in closer, his warmth surrounding you, his heartbeat steady against yours, and for once, even on a ship held together by bolts and scars and sheer, everything feels unshakably, impossibly whole.
Tumblr media
── .✦ Ace:
The waves crash steady against the ship, stars scattered across the sea like someone spilled the sky.
You’re sitting on the edge of the deck, legs swinging over the side, the ocean dark beneath you. Most of the crew’s asleep. Only you and him are still awake.
Ace drops down beside you, barefoot and shirtless, sea breeze ruffling his hair. He smells like smoke and salt and freedom.
"You're gonna fall in one day" he says, nudging your leg with his knee.
You glance over "Then you better be ready to dive in after me. Oh wait, you can't even swim anymore!"
He grins "I'd like to see you try drowning."
You bump your shoulder into his "I did once, remember? Before you even formed this crew... That's how we met."
He goes quiet.
You weren’t joking.
Neither was he, when he dragged you back to the ship half-dead, coughing seawater, chest heaving as he yelled your name like it was the last thing keeping him afloat.
That was the first time he held you like something fragile.
And the first time you knew he’d never let go.
You look out at the sea again "You saved me."
"Hm?"
"Back then. And now. All the time, really."
He leans back on his hands "You act like I’m some hero."
You shake your head "No. You're not a hero."
He laughs "Gee, thanks."
You turn to him, steady “I'm your sailor. You're the captain. You saved me from drifting.”
He blinks. His grin fades, not in a bad way, just... softer. More real.
“I never saved anyone” he says after a second.
“You did, and I'm not talking about that time...” you whisper “You just don't realise it.”
He doesn’t speak, but you feel his hand brush yours, fingers grazing yours like he wants to hold on, but doesn’t know how.
So you do it first.
You intertwine your fingers with his, firm and warm.
“I didn’t follow you ‘cause you saved me that day” you murmur “I followed you ‘cause I finally felt seen.”
He swallows hard.
Then says your name... just your name, but it sounds like a promise.
Not grand. Not dramatic.
Just true.
And that’s all you ever needed.
Years Later
For once, everything’s quiet. No Marines, no missions. Just you, a sleepy harbor, and one very shirtless fire-user leaning against the rail with a half-eaten orange in hand.
You step outside, towel-drying your hair from the bath, and lean beside him.
He grins at you like always, like you’re his favorite sight in the world.
You smirk.
“Hey, Captain.”
Ace groans immediately, tossing the orange peel at your feet.
“You still call me that?” he says, exasperated “It’s been years since I stopped being a captain, Y/N. Drop it already…”
You shrug innocently “But it suits you.”
Before he can roll his eyes harder, you lean in and plant a quick, soft kiss on his lips.
Then whisper, just close enough for him to feel your breath “My boss. My leader. My hero. My captain.”
Ace exhales like you’ve just made his heart do a backflip, but he plays it cool... barely.
“Ugh,” he groans dramatically, gently pushing your face away with one hand “Can’t you just be a cute lover and call me… I don’t know, boyfriend? Honey? My love?”
You blink at him, lips twitching, then smirk.
“Alright, sure. How about... Flamey Hot Dumbass Supreme?”
He stares at you.
“...That’s the worst thing I’ve ever heard in my life.”
You grin wider “What? It’s affectionate.”
Ace covers his face with one hand, groaning “What was I even thinking that day I confessed to you and kissed you...”
You press a kiss to his cheek “That I was the only person who could make your life this fun.”
He huffs but he doesn’t argue.
He just pulls you closer, tucking you under his arm, and lets the sunset burn quietly around you both.
The laughter fades slowly.
Ace still has his arm around your shoulders, thumb brushing slow circles on your upper arm. You rest your head against his bare chest, listening to the gentle rhythm of his heartbeat.
The orange-sweet breeze brushes past. The sun’s dipped lower now, gold turning to pink.
He doesn’t speak for a long while.
And then softly, without teasing “You’ve been sitting next to me all this time…”
You glance up, and there’s something in his eyes that makes your chest squeeze.
“Yeah” you whisper “Where else would I go?”
Ace lets out a breath that almost sounds like disbelief. His fingers move up to touch your cheek, warm and careful.
“I was so busy back then. Fighting. Running. Trying to prove something. I didn’t even see it at first.”
“See what?”
“You” he says “Of course.”
You smile, nudging his nose with yours “Took you long enough.”
His other hand finds your waist, pulling you gently closer until your knees are nearly in his lap. His voice drops “I love you.”
You blink, heart thudding.
He’s said it before, during arguments, in bed, drunk off sake. But this time? This time it’s bare, and slow, and steady.
You wrap your arms around his neck and whisper against his lips:
“I love you too, firebrain.”
You’re both smiling into the kiss when—
“Yo.”
You freeze.
Ace groans out loud, forehead thudding against your shoulder as Marco’s voice cuts you.
You both turn, Ace’s hand still on your thigh, your face flushed, as Marco stands with a completely deadpan expression.
“Am I interrupting?”
Ace doesn’t even lift his head “You think?”
Marco shrugs “Well, you're not in your room, you know? That’s basically an invitation.”
You’re trying not to laugh as Ace flips him off without looking.
“Five minutes, Marco” you plead.
Marco holds up his hands, already walking off “Sure, sure. Just letting you know dinner’s ready... lovebirds.”
Ace groans again, shoving his face into your neck as you laugh harder.
“I swear I’m gonna set that pineapple on fire.”
“Sure you are, Captain.”
“…Don’t start.”

ACE, DEUCE, LEONA, KALIM AND LILIA X READER
Where you have the habit of patting them on the head when they do something right
Tumblr media
You made the mistake of patting Ace's head the first time after he barely passed a basketball practice match without cheating.
A small miracle.
You had smiled and ruffled his messy red hair saying,
"Good job, Ace. I’m proud of you."
Ace froze for a second. Blink. Blink.
Then— He grinned.
You could practically see the little sparkle light up behind his eyes.
"Ohhh?~ What's this? Little ol' me getting a reward, huh?"
He leaned down dramatically, tilting his head toward you like a cat demanding attention.
"Wanna pet me more? Maybe scratch behind my ears next time, Yuu?"
From that moment on, Ace treated your habit like his favorite game.
Whenever he did anything remotely successful—winning a card game, finishing a group project, even just carrying your bag for you—he’d shoot you the most obnoxious overly innocent look and announce,
"So, where’s my headpat?"
Sometimes he’d physically nudge your hand toward his head, acting whiny.
Other times, he'd dramatically flop into your lap pouting,
"C'mon, I worked so hard for this."
It was a bit of a monster you created, honestly.
But deep down you knew Ace loved it.
It wasn’t just the attention (though he definitely loved that too). It was you, loving him out loud.
Sometimes, after a rough day (when he didn’t feel like being annoying or bragging), Ace would just plop down beside you, resting his head against your shoulder wordlessly.
And you would smile and card your fingers through his hair, slow and gentle, murmuring how proud you were of him.
Ace would close his eyes, a soft smile tugging at his lips—and let himself be held by you.
Tumblr media
Deuce wasn’t used to being praised. Not like this.
When you first patted his head, he’d passed a potion test he was convinced he’d failed.
The moment Professor Crewel handed him a passing mark, Deuce lit up like a sunrise. And when he turned around to share the joy with you—you just smiled and ruffled his hair.
“There you go! I knew you could do it.”
He blinked. Face froze. And then:
“What are you doing?!”
He turned bright red. Hands flailing. “I’m not a little kid!! You can’t just—!”
But despite the protests, he didn’t stop you. His cheeks glowed. His ears went pink.
And you could feel him slowly leaning into your hand, like he really needed someone to say “you did good” and mean it.
From then on, you made it a habit. Big things. Small things.
If Deuce gave someone without punching them?
Pat.
If he helped someone carry books or aced a quiz?
Pat.
At first, he would puff up every time: “Yuu! Come on, don’t do that in front of the others!!”
He got this tiny proud smile every time, like he couldn’t help but melt a little.
You started noticing he worked harder when you were watching.
“I’ve got to do it right,” he’d mutter under his breath. “Yuu’s gonna see this. I gotta make ‘em proud.”
Eventually, Deuce started earning your headpats on purpose.
He’d glance over with hopeful eyes every time he did something right, and when you stepped close and reached up, he’d bow his head, pretending not to smile—but you could feel it radiating off him.
It wasn’t about being babied. It was about you believing in him. And every headpat said: You’re doing great. I’m proud of you.
For someone trying so hard to walk the right path—that meant everything.
Tumblr media
Leona hated it. ...At least, that’s what he said.
The first time you patted his head—after he actually bothered to show up to a Housewarden meeting on time—he let out a growl.
"The hell do you think you’re doing, herbivore?"
But you just smirked and kept scratching behind his ear in that one spot, and watched as the mighty lion prince immediately betrayed himself by leaning into it, just a tiny involuntary fraction.
"You did good today," you murmured.
And you saw it—the second when the tension drained from his shoulders, when he let himself lean just a little closer.
After that, it became a game.
Leona pretended to be indifferent whenever you pet him, acting lazy and annoyed, grumbling things like,
"You're such a pain."
But whenever he actually accomplished something (winning a Spelldrive match, helping a Savannaclaw student study even though he claimed he didn’t care)—he would position himself within reach.
Sprawled on the lounge couch?
Conveniently lying right where your hand would naturally fall on his head.
Sitting with you under the shade of a tree?
Somehow ended up leaning back so close you couldn't not pet him.
He never asked.
But every time you started to run your fingers through his hair and scratch gently behind his ear, that gruff lion would let out the softest rumbly purring sound against his will.
(And if you kissed his temple while you did it, his ears would flatten... but he wouldn’t move away.)
Tumblr media
The first time you patted Kalim’s head, it was after he successfully hosted a big Scarabia banquet where no one got food poisoning, nobody got sunstroke, and Jamil didn’t strangle anyone.
High bar.
You reached up, giggling, and fluffed his snowy white hair between your hands.
"You did amazing, Kalim! You’re incredible!"
Kalim immediately lit up like a sunbeam.
"REALLY??" he cried, sparkling. "You think so?! Ahahaha!! You're the best, Yuu!!"
He immediately tackled-hugged you, spinning you around in circles, laughing so loudly and brightly that half of Scarabia heard it.
From that day forward, Kalim decided headpats were mandatory.
Every time he achieved anything—got a good grade, learned a new flying trick, remembered all his appointments for the day—he would come BOUNDING up to you like an excited puppy.
"Yuu! Yuu! Look!! I finished all my homework early!!"
And then he would immediately bow his head down toward you, waiting for his headpat.
If you didn’t do it fast enough, he would grab your hand and put it on his head himself.
Once, in front of the entire Scarabia dorm, he proudly yelled,
"I did all the event planning with Jamil without messing up once!! Yuu, gimme my headpats now!!"
The Scarabia students just sighed fondly. (They were used to it.)
Sometimes Kalim would fall asleep with his head in your lap, your hand stroking through his soft hair.
He would mumble half-dreaming praises:
"Yuu... the best... so nice... love you lots..."
No matter how rich, powerful, or loved he was by the world—there was something in Kalim’s heart that craved that warm reassurance. That he was seen.
That he was cherished just for being him.
And you gave it to him, every time.
Tumblr media
Lilia’s reaction to your headpats was...
Well.
The first time you did it, he simply closed his eyes and smiled like a cat basking in the sunlight.
You had congratulated him for flawlessly performing an impossibly complex spell during Alchemy class (he's like 500 years old how is he not gonna do it)
— and without missing a beat, you'd stood on your tiptoes (he was short, but still a bit taller than you!) and fluffed his hair affectionately.
Lilia chuckled.
"My, my. How spoiled I'm becoming, but if it's coming from you, I suppose I could grow used to such indulgences."
Unlike Leona—who denied wanting headpats and melted when he got them—Lilia leaned into it shamelessly.
He treated it like a game.
Sometimes after pranking Silver he'd come sauntering up to you, grin wicked, and lower his head.
"Don't I deserve a little reward, Yuu?~" he’d tease. "If you're feeling generous, that is."
If you hesitated even a second, Lilia would pout, arms folded, pretending to be deeply wounded.
"Ohhh, how cruel! You encourage me to be mischievous and then deny me my rightful prize!"
He’d even throw in a fake sniffle for good measure.
When you did give in—giggling and running your fingers through his soft hair—Lilia would hum, closing his eyes, his whole person softening.
And sometimes he would rest his head against yours
"You’re too kind to an old fae like me, Yuu." A whisper of something bittersweet

With your Tsum in your arms, you find Ace and Deuce, leaning over with their hands on their knees as if they were catching their breath after a run. They look at you first, but quickly the cute little creature you hold in your arms catches their attention. They both have that look on their faces like they think it's the cutest and most beautiful little thing in the world but don't want to admit it.
They say that Riddle also has one of those and it was the one they were chasing and trying to catch, but they lost it. The moment they said Riddle’s name, you felt your Tsum move enthusiastically for a moment.
They hear something, when they look they see Riddle-tsum in the distance and run towards it, starting the chase again. Your Tsum jumps out of your arms and runs with them, which makes you run after them too.
Your Tsum passes Ace and Deuce, which surprises them because they were so fast, and throws itself at Riddle-tsum, rolling together for a few seconds until they both stop. When this happened, Riddle-tsum didn't run away again, and the two were rubbing each other's cheeks happily.
Ace grabbed Riddle-tsum while it was distracted. It seemed upset about being caught. But the moment Deuce grabbed your Tsum that upsetness turn into anger. Riddle-tsum jumped out of Ace's arms, hits him in the face and threw itself right in Deuce's face to make him release your Tsum. Once back on the ground, Riddle-tsum positioned itself between your Tsum and those two, glaring threateningly at Ace and Deuce.
Once again, it doesn't run away. You finally get close to them and approach the tsums. When Riddle-tsum sees you it relaxes again and looks at you with admiration. As if looking at a royalty.
Ace and Deuce suggest that you try taking them both to Heartslabyul, as Riddle-tsum doesn't seem to like either of them. They were small enough for you to be able to carry them both in your arms without any problems.
You take them both in your arms and Riddle-tsum immediately turns red. It looked like a tomato in white clothes, and it writhed as if it wanted to hide in your arms in embarrassment. When you arrive at Heartslabyul, Riddle-tsum's blush had already subsided.
“Ah, prefect.” Riddle says when he sees you, Ace and Deuce arriving. “I see you were the one who managed to catch...” He looks at your arms to see his tsum, but his gaze automatically goes to your tsum instead. “Oh, there is one similar to you too. It looks... as charming as you.” he blushes just a little.
After explaining how you three caught Riddle-tsum, Ace suggests that they leave you and your Tsum with Riddle-tsum to prevent it from escaping again or causing trouble. Or hurt someone else. Riddle hesitates at first, as he is the one responsible for taking care of his tsum, but soon after, Riddle-tsum hits a student for breaking some rule and Riddle starts arguing with it so he stops attacking others.
You place a hand on Riddle's shoulder to try to calm him down a little and at that moment both of your attention went to your tsums. Your Tsum was between you and Riddle-tsum.
“You know, they remind me of the hedgehogs in a way.” Riddle says “And now they are reminding me of when they come closer to smell each other or to rub each other's noses. I can't deny that I find it quite cute whenever they do it.”
And then your Tsum starts rubbing its little round nose against Riddle-tsum's and caressing it to calm it down. And it works. It returns the affection by staying very close to your Tsum.
Riddle blushes a little again, and says that, reconsidering Ace's suggestion and if you want, you could take care of your tsums together.

You were walking with your Tsum in your arms when you saw Cater and his Tsum on Main Street. Cater-tsum seemed to be curled defensively around something Cater was trying to retrieve.
“Look, you can't have it, okay?!” You hear Carter say to his Tsum as you get close to them.
You greet him by asking what they are doing. Cater gives you a quick glance before turning his attention back to Cater-tsum, as if he's afraid that if he looks away it'll escape.
“Hey, (Y/N)-chan! I'm trying to get my-” He quickly looks back at you, more specifically at the adorable little thing you have in your arms. “Oh!... My!... Great Seven!” He turns his body towards you, his gaze so fixed on your Tsum that he doesn't even blink. “YOU HAVE A TSUMMY TOO! And it's the most adorable little thing I've ever seen in my life!”
Suddenly you both got jumpscared as something jumps towards you. It was Cater-tsum jumping into your arms! Despite the scare, you manage to catch it and it starts to nestle into your arms and cuddle your Tsum. Cater looks at the floor where Tsum was and sees his cell phone left behind. He retrieves it.
“We HAVE to take a pic of them!” Cater says excitedly “No! We have to do a whole photoshoot! Here! It's a great place to start.”
If you like taking pictures, your Tsum will be very excited. If you are shy, your Tsum will turn around to hide its face in your arms.
“Awwwww~ That’s even more adorable! Pwease! I beg you~" He says to your Tsum. Cater-tsum will also make pleading eyes at your Tsum.
The four of you spend a lot of time taking pictures in different places. Both pictures of the Tsums and of you with Cater. Until Cater and his Tsum have enough pictures to finally let you and your Tsum rest.
You sit on a bench, you with your Tsum on your lap and Cater with his Tsum on his lap, both of them editing photos on his cell phone. However, you feel your Tsum move and leave your lap to headbutt Cater's hand that was holding the cell phone, making it fall against his belly. After that, your tsum just stands there looking at Cater-tsum with a slightly annoyed look. Cater-tsum smiles with its tiny eyes and jumps against your tsum so they can cuddle each other.
Cater looks at the Tsums protecting the cell phone against his chest, watches them for a moment and then looks at you.
“Hey, if you want to do the same, just need to ask, you know~?” Cater says and winks at you.
If you accept, he'll put an arm around your shoulders and edit the photos with you, while your two Tsums cuddle on your laps.

Your Tsum was restless, impatient. It really wanted to go somewhere. So you pick it up and walk around campus trying to understand where it wants to go. Fortunately you don't need to walk far, as the botanical garden is one of the closest points to Ramshackle Dorm.
As soon as you enter, your tsum jumps out of your arms and starts jumping (its way of running) somewhere in the middle of some bushes. And you know that spot well. As soon as you stop seeing it, you hear a patient growl.
“Another one?” You hear Leona's voice. “Hey! What do you think you're doing?!” You follow the voice, pass through the bushes and see Leona lying down with two tsums on top of his torso. Your Tsum and Leona-tsum, cuddled up like two cats sleeping with each other.
“Herbivore, get your stuffie thing out of here and take the one that looks like me with you too. I'm not a nest to have two pesky armadillos sleeping on top of me!”
You kneel down next to him, looking at Leona-tsum with that “HE’S SO CUTE!” twinkle in your eyes. Leona-tsum looks at you and its sleepy eyes suddenly open, almost bulging. And it jumps onto your chest, knowing you would catch it.
“You got one.” Leona said. “Just one more to-” He interrupted himself, looking at his chest and seeing your tsum rising until it approached his face.
If you look at his face, you will see Leona's pupils dilating. And your tsum snuggling against his chest. You comment that you don't think your tsum will want to leave his side.
“Why don't you walk away with that one and see what happens? Maybe yours will follow.”
You are also curious to know what would happen. Leona-tsum was already sleeping in your arms.
You walk away with it, towards the exit of the botanical garden. Halfway there it wakes up and you feel it move in your arms. You stop and look at it. It seemed to have an annoyed look on its face, very similar to what Leona does when things aren't going according to his plans. You open your mouth to say or ask something, but it's Leona's voice that can be heard throughout the botanical garden.
“OI!” You hear Leona growl in annoyance. “Who do you think you are demanding anythin’ from me?!” And then you hear him roar.
You come back with Leona-tsum in your arms, and you find your tsum pulling one of Leona's braids towards you as if it wanted to force him to come to you.
“This thing really takes after you.” he comments, in a tone reminiscent of a father irritated with a child he deep down loves.
Leona-tsum jumps out of your arms and lazily approaches your tsum. Your tsum lets go of Leona's braid.
You both see Leona-tsum rubbing its cheek on your Tsum's cheek, and making a movement as if it was licking your Tsum's face. After calming your tsum down, the two of them curl up to sleep together.
“Well, at least they're not bothering me anymore.” Leona says. He closes his eyes, but right after, he opens one of them again to look at you. “If you're also going to stay here with your stuffie thing, at least be useful. This floor isn't the best pillow, you know?” He makes that gesture for you to come closer with his index finger.
And if you let him use your lap to lie down, he will fall asleep in 3 seconds, just like his Tsum did.

You were in the Ramshackle Dorm Lounge with your Tsum and Grim was in your bedroom, probably taking a nap after eating too much, when you hear someone knocking at the door. You go open the door, leaving your Tsum on the couch. You do it and see Jack.
“Hi (Y/N). Sorry to bother you, but this Tsum-” Before Jack could finish his sentence, you saw something near your feet come barreling through the door. You look back in time to see Jack-tsum turn to enter the Lounge. “Ah! Sorry. It won't sit still. Let's catch it before it does any damage.”
The two of you go to the lounge and stop right at the entrance. Jack-tsum was on the couch with your Tsum. Jack-tsum was jumping around your Tsum, its little tail wagging like crazy, and its eyes shining while also rubbing its face against your Tsum’s as if licking it. It was just like a puppy wanting to play.
“OI!” Jack shouted “Don't mess up (Y/N)'s couch!”
Jack-tsum sulked and your Tsum jumped from the couch to the floor. Jack-tsum followed it. Your Tsum approached Jack and smiled at him with its eyes, as if it were greeting him.
“Hum?” Jack’s ears pricked up as he looked down. “You also have a Tsum similar to you.” He didn't realize his tail had started wagging.
Jack-tsum followed your Tsum and you felt the need to bend down to see Jack-tsum up close. It looked at you with big bright eyes and its tail wagging wildly. You comment on how cute it is and reach out to pet it.
“Be careful.” Jack warns you “It doesn't let anyone...” You start to pet its head as it leans in your hand. “... touch it... What's the deal with this thing? Whenever anyone approached it would either move away or growl at them. How did you do that? I can't even catch it to take it to Savanaclaw.”
You say you don't know what you did either, if anything special. And you comment that it seems to like you. This makes Jack blush slightly.
“How would it not?” he says softly, and without meaning to. He clears his throat. “Um, do you mind if we stay here for a while? It seems to have finally settle down a bit.”
Your tsum goes to Jack-tsum's side and they both look at you as if begging you to say yes. You agree and the two Tsums bounce happily for a moment before they start running around the lounge together.
“OI! You two be careful!” Jack warns “Don't break or mess anything up, you hear?!”
You laugh and comment on how much you think Jack and his Tsum look alike.
“It's just the hair and the outfit.” he says a little embarrassed “Do I look round and soft?!”
“Round maybe not but soft...” You laugh and he blushes.
Before he could open his mouth to try to respond to that, the tsums started running towards you and ended up bump into you as they passed, which made you lose your balance. Jack catches you.
“What did I say?” he shouts to the tsums. He looks at you. "Are you okay?" in his arms, and he releases you, blushing a little. “Sorry about that.” he rubs the back of his neck. “It had never done this.”
“Maybe it was a bad influence.” you say and look at the Tsums. From the looks on their faces, especially your Tsum’s, it wasn't an accident.
Tumblr media
You were walking down the Main Street with your Tsum in your arms when you hear footsteps running behind you, approaching quickly. You turn around in shock and see a very tall figure right in front of you. Then you realize it's Floyd.
“Boo~” Floyd smiles at you with something writhing violently in his arms. You look and see his Tsum trying to get free. You also notice, by the way he is holding Floyd-tsum, that he is using a lot of force. “Hi Koebi-chan~. Whatcha doin'~?” He sees something in your arms and looks to find your Tsum. “Woo! You have one too! And it looks so small and weak like you, how cute! He he.”
(What you don't know is that what really happened was that Floyd-tsum was loose and took off running when it saw you. The footsteps you heard were Floyd running to catch it before Floyd-tsum caught you first.)
Your Tsum made a sulky face, while Floyd-tsum continued to struggle in Floyd's arms. You say Floyd-tsum is also very cute, it stops and looks at you with smiling little eyes.
“Do you wanna play with it?” Floyd asks and you say yes. “Sure, but careful how you handle it. It’s easy to set this guy-” The moment he let his arms go slack for a second, Floyd-tsum jumped into your arms.
With difficulty, but you managed to catch it without letting your tsum fall. Now you had them both in your arms. You saw it squeezing your tsum while it snuggled into your arms. However, your tsum didn't seem uncomfortable, quite the opposite, it felt like a passionate everyday hug.
Between letting Floyd-tsum jump out of his arms, until realizing that it wouldn't hurt you, Floyd stared at his Tsum with that serious face that all students who know him the least bit fear.
“Aw~ Aren't they cute together?” he says with his usual relaxed expression. He sees that you are having difficulty holding both tsums. “Let them go. They can walk on their own. Or hop, I guess.”
You do so. The two Tsums land on the ground and Floyd-tsum jumps up to continue hugging your Tsum. But before it can, Floyd quickly picks up your Tsum in his arms and starts squeezing it too.
“MY TURN!” Floyd says to his Tsum.
This one sulks, looks at you and jumps back towards you. You catch it and it hugs your forearm. You and Floyd laugh, until the pressure in your arm starts to increase to the point where it starts to hurt. The moment you grimace, Floyd's expression changes, he lets go of your tsum and rips his off your arm.
“I warned you.” he says to his tsum, with the same face he uses to threaten students who don't pay Azul. “Someone is not keeping their side of the deal.”
Floyd-tsum manages to escape and hugs your tsum again, but without hurting it. Floyd looks at you, who looks slightly sad, and sees you rubbing the forearm that Tsum was squeezing. He holds your wrist to see better. There is a slight reddish mark. He lets go of your wrist, turns to the Tsums and lifts his foot as if to step on his tsum. Before you could stop him, your tsum does it, getting out of Floyd-tsum's embrace and positioning itself between it and Floyd's sole when he was about to hit his Tsum. He looks at your tsum's fearless face for a moment and laughs heartily.
“HA HA HA HA! It also takes after you, Koebi-chan~” He puts his foot back on the ground and turns back to you. “We were going to Mostro Lounge. Do you want to come?”
Tumblr media
With your Tsum in your arms, you were walking down Main Street when you heard a scream. It sounded like someone was being attacked by a dog or something. You follow the sound and see Epel, another Pomefiore student, and an Epel-tsum attacking this student while Epel tries to stop it.
Your tsum jumps out of your arms and runs (or hops) towards them until it stops between Epel-tsum and the student, preventing the tsum from attacking him again. And then, your tsum headbutted Epel-tsum so hard that it even knocked it upside down for a moment. Enough time for Epel to catch it. The other student runs away and Epel-tsum begins to struggle in Epel's arms.
“Stop it!” Epel complained “Ya can't go aroun´ attackin´ students!”
You approach them asking if everything is okay and if he needs help. Epel-tsum stops and looks at you. You smile when you see that Epel also has a tsum and comment on how cute it is (like any tsum).
“No! Don't call it that!” The Tsum manages to jump out of Epel's arms and towards you.
He panics, but instead of the Tsum hitting you, it lands in your arms and just looks at you with a sulky face. You say it's still being cute, and once again, instead of it attacking you, its little face turns red with blush.
Epel freezes, completely confused for a moment until he thinks about what could be the possible reason for you being the only person who called the Tsum cute and it didn't attack. And when he thinks of the most likely reason, he also blushes.
Your tsum also jumped into Epel's arms, surprising him. It smiles at him with its cute little eyes and his blush deepens. Your voice is the only thing that makes Epel look away from your Tsum, asking if you could accompany him and his Tsum if they were going to Pomefiore.
In his dorm, needless to say, Rook wasted no time praising the Tsums, both Epel's and yours. But since Epel's Tsum didn't seem to appreciate the comments very much, especially if they focused on the fact that it was cute, Rook ended up turning his attention to your Tsum, which ended up bothering Epel's Tsum even more.
“It looks like someone is jaloux.” Rook says smiling amused.
That was the only thing that made Epel-tsum throw itself at him, to attack. Rook dodged it like a bullfighter with the grace of someone who was expecting it. Epel panicked and quickly picked up his tsum and apologized to Rook.
“There is no reason to apologize, Monsieur Pommette.” Rook says, loving the situation more than he should. “Truly. I must confess that my provocation was premeditated. C'est tellement beau to see your true feelings and emotions through your Tsum's lack of filter.”
“WHA-?! WHAT IS THIS SUPPOSED TO MEAN?!”
Rook just laughs, winks at Epel and starts walking towards the door. Halfway there he passes you, leans over and whispers in your ear: “Could you tame the little beast for us, Trickster?” and leaves.
Epel's Tsum struggled in his arms, angry... with jealousy.

Your Tsum was restless, impatient. It really wanted to go somewhere. So you pick it up and walk around campus trying to understand where it wants to go. You leave Ramshackle Dorm, pass the Botanical Garden and the Alchemy Workshop and arrive at the Hall of Mirrors.
As soon as you enter, your Tsum escapes from your arms and quickly jumps until it enters the mirror to Diasmonia. You follow it, but you realize that you lost sight of it the moment it passed through the mirror.
“Good afternoon, (Y/N)!” Lilia is the first to come and greet you. “To what do we owe such a wonderful surprise visit?”
You tell him about your tsum.
“Ah yes! Sebek also has a cute little lookalike. I can't wait to see yours. Although if it's as adorable or even more adorable than you, we're going to have a cuteness overdose problem in this dorm. Khe he. Well, from what I understand, and despite Sebek denying it, the personality of these tsums is very similar to the personality of those they physically resemble. So if your tsum wanted to come here, where do you think it would have gone? Where would you want to go?”
You don't think about a ‘where’ but rather a ‘who’ and that may have shown on your face, beacuse Lilia laughs amusedly.
“So maybe your tsum went to meet someone? Maybe a fellow tsum? Khe he he. I suggest we look for Malleus. Wherever he is, Sebek and Silver will be there too.”
The two of you head to the lounge, but before you get there you can already hear all the commotion. Aka: Sebek’s thunderous voice.
“Don't look at me like that! No matter who your looks resemble, you're bothering Malleus-sama and meddling in our, I mean my guard duties!”
“Actually,” You hear Malleus's patient voice say. “I am quite enjoying this little one's presence. It's as pleasant as (Y/N)'s own presence. Wouldn't you agree, Sebek?”
“HM?! Yes! Of course sir! Please forgive me for implying that this Tsum's presence was inconvenient.”
You and Lilia arrive at the lounge and approach those two. Sebek, as expected, was standing very straight next to Malleus, who was sitting in one of the sofas. Coming closer, you see that both your Tsum and Sebek's Tsum are in Malleus' lap. And Sebek-tsum looked like it was... about to cry?
“AWW~ Look at you.” Lilia said, your Tsum turned to him. “You are even cuter than I imagined. *sigh* What an unfair competition.”
The moment Sebek-tsum sees you is when it finally starts crying.
“HUM?! What is wrong with you?” Sebek inquires. “You are such a strange creature.”
“I think it's too much emotion to see so many people it likes together.” Lilia says with a smirk.
“W-Well, regardless, it should learn to control itself!”
You come closer, worried about Sebek-tsum, and ask if it would like a hug to feel better. It looks at you, then at Malleus, back at you, Malleus, you, Malleus, and on until it almost gets dizzy and the indecision seems to make it more sad.
“I think I have an idea.” Malleus says. “(Y/N), would you like to sit next to me?”
You sit down, he asks you to come closer until your thighs touch, so he can place Sebek-tsum on both of your laps at the same time. It, still in tears, seemed to be thanking Malleus with his eyes and head.
“How intelligent and generous, my liege!” Even Sebek himself had a tear in the corner of his eye.
He was about to continue his praise when your Tsum jumped from Malleus' lap into Sebek's hands. He caught it as if he was saving it from a fall. It looked at him and smiled with its eyes.
“How precious.” He said with a tender smile, as he was still emotional about Malleus's act. Then he realized what he had just said and blushed in embarrassment. But he didn't stop holding your Tsum.

Sweeter Than Summer
Tumblr media
Summary: It starts with helping Sarah. It ends with her dad looking at you like he can’t breathe without you. Soft smiles, stolen glances—until it’s not so soft anymore. Word Count: 8K Warnings: fluff, age gap (reader is 22 and joel is in his mid 30s), joel being the hot neighbor and a frienc od your dad's, tommy being a little shit to his older brother, team plotting from sarah and her uncle, blood (not gory though), joel not knowing how to take care of Sarah becoming a woman, food consumption, nervous!joel, texas!joel, no outbreak!joel, unprotected sex, A/N: I kinda let myself go with this one. But you can never have too much of dilf!joel anyway. I hope you enjoy xx
Tumblr media
Sweat clung to your skin like a second layer, tracing hot trails from your neck to the hollow of your collarbone. Texas, in the dead of summer, had become less of a state and more of a furnace—an open-mouthed oven blasting dry, merciless heat at everything that dared to live in it. No breeze, no shade, not even the patchy ceiling fans in your father’s house could fight it off.
So you escaped to the only place with the illusion of relief: your old man’s rust-bitten Ford truck. The air conditioning groaned like an old man with bad knees, struggling to push out even a whisper of cold. Mostly, it just wheezed in competition with the faint melody of Avril Lavigne’s Complicated playing from a scratched-up CD.
That CD had been a gift from Sarah—the wild-hearted twelve-year-old next door with a halo of curls and a grin full of mischief. She’d handed it to you like it was treasure, wrapped in a scrap of pink paper with your name spelled in glitter pen. Babysitting her had started off as a favor, a quick yes when your father mentioned that Joel Miller—Sarah’s dad—needed someone to help out now and then. You’d barely met Joel, only knew that he worked with his hands, often gone at odd hours, and that he carried the kind of quiet sadness you didn’t ask questions about.
You were a high school senior back then, just counting days until freedom. But somehow, that little girl made you want to stay.
Your evenings slowly stitched themselves into a patchwork of Disney marathons, popcorn burned in the microwave, Sarah’s giggles echoing through the halls of the Miller house. She’d curl up beside you, head resting on your shoulder like a sleepy kitten, cookies half-eaten and forgotten on the table. She became something sacred—a bond, a heartbeat, the closest thing to a sister you’d ever have.
Even after you left for college, you kept coming back. Not out of duty, but because her tiny arms still wrapped around your waist when you walked through the door. Because her eyes still lit up like fireworks when you pressed play on The Little Mermaid. Because somehow, she had become your person.
You leaned back in the cracked leather seat, your legs sticking to it, the AC making a sad attempt at survival. You shut your eyes and let Avril’s voice carry you, half-lost in memory and heat-induced haze, until a sharp knock on the passenger window startled you.
Sarah.
She was grinning, as usual—her curls pulled into a wild ponytail, a Popsicle in one hand, and a look that said she was up to something.
You rolled the window down. “What’s up, bug?”
She climbed in before you could stop her, dragging a wave of hot air in with her. “Dad said we could go get ice cream if you’re up for driving.”
“Did he now?”
“Okay, I might’ve said you were bored and needed to get out. Same thing.”
You shook your head, biting back a smile. She shoved the melting Popsicle into your hand and snapped on her seatbelt with dramatic flair. “Let’s go. Before it gets hotter. I think I saw a squirrel burst into flames on the sidewalk.”
You laughed and turned the key in the ignition. The engine coughed to life, the truck rumbling beneath you like an old beast waking from a nap. You caught sight of Joel on the porch as you pulled away—arms crossed, watching with that unreadable expression he always wore. You gave him a two-fingered wave. He nodded once, and that was enough.
Sarah chattered all the way to the ice cream place, asking about college, about whether you had a boyfriend yet (she asked this every time), and whether she’d be tall enough to ride the big coasters at the state fair this year. You let her talk, let her words fill the space like music.
When you finally parked in front of the ice cream shop, the sun had started dipping low, turning the sky into a hazy peach-orange watercolor.
Inside, the cool air hit like salvation. Sarah ran to the counter, already debating between cotton candy and cookie dough. You trailed behind more slowly, letting the change in temperature settle over your skin like a blessing.
As you waited, your phone buzzed in your pocket. A message from your dad:
“Joel asked if you’ll be home later. Said he could use help with something at the house.”
You stared at the screen for a second longer than you needed to. Joel didn’t ask for help. Not unless he meant it.
“What’s wrong?” Sarah looked up from her ice cream conquest.
You smiled. “Nothing. Just your dad being mysterious.”
She rolled her eyes. “He’s always mysterious. He builds things all day and listens to music no one understands.”
“Sounds like someone I know,” you teased.
“I’m not mysterious,” she said, scooping her choice—cookie dough, of course—into a bowl. “I’m an open book.”
You paid for the treats and led her outside to a metal bench half in the shade. The breeze had picked up slightly. It carried the scent of pavement, crepe myrtles, and something else—something you couldn’t quite name. Something shifting.
Tumblr media
The sun was beginning to slip behind the rooftops by the time you and Sarah returned to the Miller house, both of you sticky from melted ice cream and heat. The air had that golden hue of a Texas evening—dust motes glowing in the sunlight, cicadas beginning their slow song. The drive back from the ice cream shop had been quiet, but not in a bad way. Sarah had rolled the window down and was humming absently to herself between licks of her cone. You stole glances at her in the rearview mirror. She looked tired but content, her face a little flushed, her curls sticking to her temples.
You knew something had shifted. She’d been quieter than usual on the ride back, a little distracted. Not sad, just somewhere far off in her head. You didn’t push it. You’d learned a long time ago that Sarah always circled back in her own time.
When you pulled into the driveway, Joel was out front, leaning against the porch rail with his arms folded, like he’d been waiting. He looked up as the truck came to a stop, one brow lifting slightly in a kind of wordless check-in. You gave him a nod, just enough to say she’s okay.
Sarah climbed out of the truck slowly and stretched. “I’m gonna shower,” she mumbled, already heading toward the front door.
“You eat dinner?” Joel called after her.
“Ice cream counts!” she shouted back, disappearing into the house.
Joel huffed something like a laugh, but it didn’t quite reach his eyes. He scratched the back of his neck, eyes still on the screen door even after it swung shut behind her.
You shut the truck door and walked over to him. “Everything alright?”
He looked at you then, really looked. Not with panic, exactly, but something close. Hesitation. Worry. Maybe a little guilt.
“You got a minute?” he asked. “Need to run something by you.”
You nodded. “Yeah, sure.”
Joel gestured toward the backyard with a jerk of his chin. The porch boards creaked beneath his boots as you followed him through the kitchen and out the back door, into the thick, humid air. The sun was low now, bleeding orange across the fence line. Crickets had started up in the grass, and you could hear a neighbor’s sprinkler ticking faintly in the distance.
Joel didn’t speak for a while. He stood with his hands on his hips, staring out across the yard like it might offer him a script to read from. When he finally spoke, his voice was low and a little rough around the edges.
“Found somethin’ earlier,” he said. “In the bathroom. A, uh… towel. One of hers. Had blood on it…”
“Oh,” you said, gently. “Her period.”
He nodded, cheeks reddening, clearly trying to keep his voice level. “Yeah. That. She didn’t say a damn word to me. Just shoved a towel in the laundry like nothin’ happened and then asked if she could go out for ice cream. And I remembered… her mom used to—well, she always wanted something sweet on her bad days, so…”
You felt your chest warm. Not from the heat. From him. From this big, quiet man who looked like he could wrestle a bear but stood there now like a deer in headlights, wringing his hands over his little girl.
“She’s twelve,” he added, like that somehow made it more tragic. “I don’t… I didn’t grow up with sisters. Only Tommy. We were a disaster even on good days. I don’t know what to say, or how to—hell, I don’t even know what kind of… supplies she’s supposed to use.”
He fell quiet again, then sighed, long and slow. “I didn’t know who to call. I almost called Tommy, but you know, he’s as useless as I am when it comes to this kinda thing. So… I figured, maybe you’d know.”
There was something in the way he said it—maybe you’d know—that felt less like a request and more like a quiet surrender. Like this was his way of admitting he was scared, and he didn’t know how to say it out loud.
You stepped closer, your voice soft. “You did the right thing, Joel. Giving her space, getting her out of the house. That was smart.”
“She didn’t even tell me,” he muttered. “That’s what kills me. She used to come to me for everything. Now she’s just—dealing with it by herself. Like she had to.”
“She’s twelve,” you said gently. “She’s embarrassed. Doesn’t know how to talk about it. Maybe she’s scared you’ll think she’s different now.”
Joel blinked at that. “Why the hell would I think that?”
“Because that’s what girls worry about when they start this. That people will treat them differently. That their body’s changing and it makes things weird.”
He didn’t answer right away. His eyes were on the fence again. “Her mom used to say stuff like that. About how she hated how people treated her like she was fragile just ’cause she was bleeding.”
There was a rawness in his voice that hadn’t been there before. Not just nervousness—grief, too. That quiet, familiar ache of someone trying to parent without the other half of the puzzle.
“I’ll take her to the store tomorrow,” you said. “We’ll get her what she needs—pads, whatever she’s comfortable with. Maybe some tea. And chocolate. That always helps.”
Joel nodded slowly, like each word you said was another burden taken off his shoulders. “Thank you.”
You hesitated, then placed your hand lightly on his arm. “She’s not trying to shut you out. She’s just figuring it out in the only way she knows how.”
He looked at you then, really looked—tired, grateful, full of a quiet kind of worry that had nowhere to go.
“I feel like I’m messin’ it all up,” he admitted, so low you barely heard it.
“You’re not.”
“You sure?”
“I’ve never been more sure.”
A long silence settled between you. The kind that wasn’t awkward, just full. Full of the things left unsaid, of the weight of love and responsibility and the kind of fear that comes with being someone’s whole world.
Joel rubbed a hand over his face and huffed a short laugh. “You must think I’m pathetic.”
“I think you’re doing your best,” you said. “And that’s more than a lot of kids get.”
He let out a breath, slow and steady. Then, after a pause: “You’re good with her.”
“I love her,” you said. “She’s like a little sister to me.”
Joel looked at you again—something unreadable in his expression. Maybe surprise. Maybe something else.
“I’m real glad you’re still around,” he said quietly.
You smiled. “Me too.”
From inside the house, Sarah called out, “Are we watching a movie or what?”
Joel didn’t take his eyes off you, but there was something softer in them now. Something unguarded.
“I guess we’d better get in there,” he said.
“Yeah,” you said, letting your hand fall from his arm. “Before she starts without us.”

It was the first time you'd stayed this late at the Miller house. Usually, your evenings with Sarah ended around sunset—movie paused, cookies half-eaten, Joel pulling into the driveway with dust on his jeans and tired thanks in his eyes. But this time, things were different.
Sarah had asked you to stay. She’d clung to your arm, eyes wide and wheedling, and Joel, surprisingly, had said yes.
“I mean… if it’s no trouble,” he’d added, rubbing the back of his neck, trying not to meet your eyes.
You’d said it wasn’t. And you meant it.
Now, the three of you were gathered in the living room. The lights were dimmed, the TV humming with the opening credits of Holes. Sarah had insisted on it—“It’s a classic, don’t even argue”—and had spread every pillow and blanket she could find across the floor like a DIY fort.
She was nestled into the middle of it, legs tucked under her, one of Joel’s flannels hanging off her shoulders. You sat on the edge of the couch, nursing a soda, while Joel took the armchair, one ankle propped lazily over his knee.
The movie started, and for a while, it was all popcorn rustles and Sarah quoting her favorite lines before they even happened. Joel chuckled at her enthusiasm, and you found yourself watching them more than the movie—how Joel’s eyes softened every time Sarah laughed, how she leaned toward you like this was the most natural thing in the world.
Somewhere around the third lizard sighting, Sarah moved to sit on the couch between you and the armrest, leaning against your side like a sleepy cat. You didn’t even notice when her breathing evened out and her head rested on your arm.
Joel noticed though.
His voice came low, amused. “She out?”
You glanced down. “Dead to the world.”
“She’s like her mom that way. Could sleep through a tornado.”
It was the second time he’d mentioned her. His voice was gentle, a little distant, but not painful. Just remembering.
You both sat quietly for a while after that. The soft flicker of the movie lit his face in blues and golds. He looked… peaceful. More relaxed than you’d seen him at those neighborhood barbecues, where he always kept a beer in his hand and one eye on Sarah like he didn’t trust the world not to fall apart.
Now, she was here, asleep beside you. And you were here, beside her.
When the credits finally rolled, Joel stood up slowly, stretching with a soft groan.
“I’ll carry her,” he said, and you nodded.
He moved carefully, gently scooping her up in his arms. She stirred just enough to murmur your name and Joel’s, then went limp again against his chest.
You watched them disappear down the hallway, the quiet creak of her bedroom door closing like the final note in a lullaby.
When he returned, he found you curled up on the couch, clearly half-asleep yourself.
Joel stood there for a moment, just watching you.
He thought about waking you. He really did.
But then he sighed, rubbed a hand over his jaw, and muttered, “Alright then.”
A few minutes later, he was spreading a clean blanket over you in his room and stacking an extra pillow beside your head. He lingered there, eyes soft, before turning off the light and closing the door behind him.

The smell of coffee nudged you awake before sunlight did. For a few seconds, you lay still, half-dreaming, until the stiff cotton sheets and unfamiliar quiet reminded you—this wasn’t your bed. It was Joel's.
You blinked at the wooden beams above you, the smell of frying bacon drifting in through a barely-cracked door. Joel's room was neat but lived-in. The flannel shirt hanging off the bedpost, the guitar case by the closet, the worn boots by the door—it all felt very him.
You sat up slowly, pushing hair out of your face, squinting toward the hallway. It felt intimate in here. Like you were somewhere you weren't quite supposed to be. And yet, the warmth in your chest told a different story.
The floorboards creaked softly as you padded toward the kitchen, feet bare and cautious. Joel stood at the stove, t-shirt wrinkled, hair a little messier than usual. He was flipping bacon, one hand holding a spatula, the other nursing a coffee cup.
He turned when he heard you, and for just a second, there was something caught in his expression. Not surprise. Something softer.
"Mornin'," he said, voice low and a little scratchy.
"You gave me your bed?"
Joel shrugged, turning back to the stove. "You were out cold. Didn’t wanna wake you. Couch ain’t so bad."
You glanced over at the couch, then back at him. "That couch is shaped like a capital 'L'. No way your back's okay."
He smirked, sliding bacon onto a paper towel. "I'm tougher than I look."
You raised an eyebrow, settling onto a stool by the counter. "You mean grumpier."
Before Joel could reply, Sarah wandered in like a hurricane with the battery drained. She wore a hoodie zipped halfway and socks slipping down her heels. Her face was twisted in dramatic agony.
"It feels like a war zone in my gut," she moaned.
Joel tensed. "You need Tylenol? Heating pad?"
"I need ice cream," Sarah said. Then her eyes landed on you. "You're still here?"
You smiled. "Yep. Joel gave me his bed."
Sarah blinked. Then grinned like she’d just won a prize at the fair. "Ooooh."
Joel, behind her, quietly muttered, "Sarah."
She leaned in close to you like you were co-conspirators. "Did you sleep in, like, his bed? Like with the plaid sheets and the pillow that smells like sawdust and... man soap?"
You tried not to laugh. "That very one."
Sarah's eyes glittered. "I knew it! Dad always acts weird around you."
Joel nearly choked on his coffee. "Alright, that's enough. Go sit down."
Sarah plopped onto the couch, cradling a heating pad Joel must have already warmed up for her. Despite her cramps, she looked content. Radiant, even. You noticed her eyes drifting shut, the tiniest smile playing at her lips.
"We should probably go grab her a few things," you murmured to Joel.
He gave a quiet nod. "She said she used the last pad yesterday. I just... didn’t wanna get the wrong thing. Didn’t know there were fifty types."
You touched his arm lightly. "We’ll take care of it."
Just then, the back door creaked open with that familiar screech that only old hinges and a Miller brother could make.
"Hope I’m not too late for bacon," Tommy called, strolling in like he owned the place. He wore his Sunday-best version of casual: jeans, a button-up rolled to the elbows, and a grin that could get him out of any ticket.
Sarah brightened at the sound. "Uncle Tommy!"
"Hey, sweetheart," he beamed, ruffling her curls gently. "Heard you had a bit of a rough morning."
She held up a thumbs-up from under her blanket. "I’m surviving. Thanks to the ice cream and the guest star who stayed overnight."
Tommy's eyebrows shot up, and he turned to look at you, then Joel. "Guest star, huh?"
Joel stiffened where he stood. "She crashed after the movie. I gave her the bed."
Tommy leaned on the counter, eyes twinkling. "Your bed?"
Sarah giggled. "With the plaid sheets and the soap smell and everything!"
Joel let out a breath like he was trying not to combust. "Can y’all stop announcin' that to the whole neighborhood?"
Tommy laughed, clearly enjoying himself. "I’m just sayin’—breakfast smells like affection, and you’ve got your flannel lookin’ a little less grumpy today."
"She’s good with Sarah," Joel said gruffly, pouring another cup of coffee. "That’s all."
"Sure," Tommy said, nodding slowly. "And the way you’re hovering near her like a guard dog in flannel, that’s also ‘just good with Sarah’?" he whispered.
Joel shot him a warning glance, but Tommy only grinned wider.
"Uncle Tommy," Sarah said sweetly, suddenly conspiratorial, "do you think Dad has a crush?"
Joel nearly dropped his mug. You buried your face in your hands, laughing helplessly.
Tommy gasped theatrically. "Sarah! I think you might be right. Look at that blush—he’s turning redder than my truck!"
Joel groaned. "Jesus Christ, I should’ve stayed in bed."
"Too bad someone else was in it," Tommy teased.
Joel turned to you, his voice dry. "You wanna take her to the store now? Might be safer."
You, still laughing, nodded. "Before Sarah starts handing out wedding invitations."
Sarah waved a hand from the couch. "Too late, I already made a vision board."
Tommy threw his head back, howling. Joel just stared at the ceiling like it might open up and swallow him whole.
You grabbed your bag, still chuckling, and gestured to Sarah. "C’mon, let’s get you the fancy kind of pain relief. Maybe even a heating pad shaped like a llama."
Sarah sprang up with unexpected energy. "This is why you’re my favorite."
Joel muttered, "You weren’t sayin’ that when I was up at 2 a.m. gettin’ you ice water."
She kissed his cheek and skipped toward the door.
As the two of you left, you heard Tommy say behind you, "You know, I really am happy for you, big brother. But I’m gonna keep messin’ with you just the same."
Joel replied with a grunt, but his voice, softer now, said more than his words ever could.
He was grateful.
And he was in trouble.
Tumblr media
The store's fluorescent lights buzzed faintly overhead as you and Sarah wandered down the aisle lined with shelves full of period products. The “feminine care” section was a riot of pastel colors, cryptic labels, and brands that somehow managed to sound both comforting and clinical.
Sarah stared up at them, arms crossed, mouth slightly open. "Okay, so... what's the difference between ultra-thin and ultra-thin with wings? Is it, like, flying powers?"
You snorted. "No flying powers, sadly. The wings just help keep things in place."
"Disappointing," she said with a sigh. "I was hoping for at least a little magic."
You crouched to scan the lower shelves. "Do you want the same kind you had last time, or do you wanna try something different?"
Sarah shrugged. "Whatever you think’s best. I trust your judgment. You’re clearly a seasoned professional."
You tossed a box into the basket. "The seasoned-est."
Sarah peeked up at you, slyly. "So... speaking of judgment."
You raised an eyebrow. "Uh-huh?"
"Do you like older guys?"
You blinked. "That’s... a jump."
She grinned, clearly proud of herself. "No it’s not. It’s an investigative segue."
You tried to stifle a laugh. "Sarah."
"What? I’m curious! You’re, like, a woman. With... grown-up tastes."
"You’re twelve."
"Exactly! I need mentorship."
You paused, holding a box of heating patches. "Is this about your dad again?"
"I mean, not entirely. But also: yes."
You gave her a look.
"I just think you two would be cute. You both make weirdly good pancakes. And when you were sleeping in his bed, I swear he was, like, standing in the hallway checking if you were still breathing. Like some kind of lumberjack angel."
You put the patches in the basket. "Lumberjack angel?"
"Don’t mock the poetry."
You walked toward the checkout, and she practically skipped after you despite the heating pad she clutched like a teddy bear.
"Okay but seriously—" she continued, lowering her voice dramatically, "—do you think he’s cute? Like, if he didn’t have the whole ‘dad’ thing going on?"
You sighed, amused. "Sarah, I’m not talking about your dad like that."
She smirked. "That means yes."
You gave her a mock glare as the cashier started scanning your items. Sarah, never missing a beat, leaned on the counter like she was discussing secret spy business.
"Also, Uncle Tommy said you could do better. I told him to hush. I think my dad is the best you’re gonna get."
"Wow. Brutal."
"I'm in pain. Let me live."
As you bagged everything up and started walking toward the exit, Sarah looped her arm through yours and leaned against you.
"Thanks for coming with me. It’s way less awkward with you. Dad would’ve had an existential crisis in the tampon aisle."
"I believe it."
"And also... thanks for not making this whole thing a big weird deal. I was really freaked out yesterday. Thought I was dying. You were cool about it."
You softened. "That’s what I’m here for."
She looked up at you, a little more serious now. "And I really hope you end up my stepmom. But, like, the hot kind."
You blinked. "SARAH."
She cackled. "What? Just planting seeds."
Outside, the sun was warm on your face. You shook your head, laughing as you loaded the bags into Joel’s truck.
And somewhere inside that little gremlin of a girl was the biggest heart you’d ever met. Even on her worst day, she was matchmaking and joking and holding your hand.
God help Joel.
He didn’t stand a chance.
Tumblr media
The sun was angling low by the time you pulled back into the driveway, the kind of orange Texas glow that made everything look a little too golden and a little too unreal. Sarah was humming to herself in the passenger seat, clutching the drugstore bag like it held state secrets.
You climbed out of the truck, stretching, only to freeze halfway through.
Joel was out front, shirt sticking to his back in the heat, kneeling beside a crooked section of the fence. A small toolbox sat next to him, half-open, nails scattered in neat little rows. His shirt—dark blue and worn—was clinging to his frame in all the right places. Sleeves rolled up past his elbows. Forearms dusted in sawdust.
He looked up as you shut the car door, and for a moment, all you could do was blink.
“Hey,” he called, wiping the back of his hand across his forehead. “Y’all make it okay?”
Sarah jumped out of the truck and held up the bag. “We conquered the period aisle!” she declared, marching proudly inside.
Joel chuckled. “That so?” Then his eyes flicked to you, and something in them softened. “Thanks. For takin’ her.”
You nodded, but your voice caught somewhere in your throat. “Of course.”
He bent back down, hammer in hand, and you stood there a beat too long watching the muscles in his arm flex with each nail he drove in.
It’s just because of what Sarah said, you told yourself. That’s all. She put it in your head.
But that wasn’t entirely true. The man looked like a Calvin Klein ad shot in a lumber yard.
You forced yourself to turn toward the house before your brain made it worse.
Inside, Sarah was already curled up on the couch, heating pad in place, water bottle in hand, victorious and slightly smug.
Joel followed you in not long after, wiping his hands on a rag. He glanced at the clock, then at you.
“You hungry?” he asked. “I was gonna grill a few things for dinner. Nothin’ fancy.”
“Stay!” Sarah added immediately, perking up. “You helped today and you’re, like, family. Dad even makes real food when you’re here. It’s a rare event.”
Joel gave her a look but didn’t argue. His eyes landed on you again. “You’re welcome to. Honestly.”
You smiled. “Yeah. I’d like that.”
Tumblr media
Joel grilled something—probably out of guilt for the frozen waffles breakfast. It smelled amazing. Burgers, seasoned fries, sliced watermelon, the works. You sat across from Sarah while Joel set everything out. Just as he was bringing over a dish of pickles, the back door swung open.
“Smells like a cookout for three, but I count four plates,” Tommy drawled, letting himself in like he always did. His jeans were too tight, shirt a little too fitted, like he was contractually obligated to flirt with the universe.
Joel gave him a side glance. “Don’t you have a house?”
“Sure do. But yours has food. And company.”
Tommy’s eyes slid to you, and his grin grew. “Well hey there.”
You smiled. “Hi, Tommy.”
Sarah rolled her eyes dramatically. “Don’t even, Uncle Tommy. She’s my best friend.”
Joel muttered, “God help me,” under his breath and passed you the ketchup.
Halfway through dinner, Tommy was in rare form. He elbowed Joel mid-bite. “So. When’s the last time you cooked like this for anyone?”
Joel didn’t look up. “Don’t start.”
“I’m just sayin’. I visit and get leftover chili. She visits and it’s gourmet.”
You were trying to hide your grin behind your water glass.
Tommy pointed his fork at you. “He always gets like this when you’re around. All tense and upright like he’s bein’ evaluated by the food network. You got the man sweating over burger seasoning.”
Joel groaned. “I swear to God, Tommy.”
Sarah giggled. “He did check the grill temp like, five times.”
You caught Joel’s eye. He looked exasperated, but his ears were red. Very red.
Tommy wasn’t done. “You know, Sarah’s got a good eye. She’s not wrong. This whole thing”—he gestured vaguely between you and Joel—“feels domestic.”
“Tommy,” Joel warned.
Sarah added, “We’re basically a sitcom now. One where the hot dad doesn’t know he’s in love.”
Joel dropped his head into his hands.
Tommy raised his glass. “To sitcoms. And slow burns.”
You didn’t know whether to laugh or run.
Joel caught your eye again. And this time, he didn’t look away.
Tumblr media
It wasn’t a big party. That had never been your dad’s style. But the backyard looked sweet under the string lights he’d looped between trees, casting a soft gold hue over the old lawn chairs and the fold-out table covered in mismatched paper plates and bowls of chips. A CD player in the corner hummed the tunes of old country and early 2000s radio hits, the kind your dad thought “young people liked.”
You’d just turned 22. Most of your college friends were scattered across the state—too far to make it for a casual Sunday night cookout. So it was just a few neighbors, your dad manning the grill, and a soft breeze that hinted at the edge of summer’s peak.
Joel showed up just as your dad was tending to the barbeque, Sarah at his side, her curls bouncing in a way that made her look like she was floating toward you. She held out a card like it was a trophy.
“Happy birthday!” she beamed. “I made you a masterpiece.”
You laughed and took it carefully. The card was covered in glitter and tiny doodles: a birthday cake, a sparkly dinosaur wearing sunglasses, and a poorly drawn but heartfelt portrait of you, her, and Joel standing under a rainbow.
“I love it,” you said, genuinely. “I’m framing it.”
“Good,” she grinned. “It took me forty-five minutes and three glitter glue explosions.”
Behind her, Joel gave you a small smile. He was in a dark gray button-down rolled to the elbows and jeans that didn’t look new, but still somehow looked good. Really good. You’d never seen him dressed like this—like he tried, just a little. He was holding a six-pack of Shiner Bock and a small rectangular gift wrapped in brown paper and string.
"Happy birthday," he said, voice quieter. “Didn’t know what to get, so…”
He handed you the gift and scratched at the back of his neck.
You gave him a curious smile as you took it. “Should I open it now?”
He shrugged. “Up to you.”
You peeled back the paper. Inside was a well-worn copy of To Kill a Mockingbird. The corners were softened from age, and the inside cover had a note in Joel’s neat, deliberate handwriting:
“You mentioned this was your favorite once. Figured you should have a version that’s seen a few years too. —J”
For a moment, the backyard went quiet around you—music, chatter, all of it faded. You looked up and met his eyes. Warm. Kind. Embarrassed, maybe. But also something else. Like he saw you in a way that you hadn’t let yourself imagine too much.
“Thank you,” you said, and meant it more than he probably realized.
Sarah was watching the two of you with her arms crossed, smirking. “You two are so obvious.”
Joel cleared his throat and turned toward the food table. “Burgers should be ready soon.”
You followed, your cheeks flushed.
Later, after burgers and sides and Sarah’s overenthusiastic attempts to pin the tail on the inflatable donkey, which your dad found hilarious, the grill was cooling and the sky was a bruised violet. You were inside the kitchen, trying to find a knife that wasn’t dull to slice the birthday cake. Your dad had disappeared, muttering something about “checking the propane line,” which you were 99% sure was code for “giving you space.”
Joel came in behind you with a tray of empty cups. “Need a hand?”
You turned, knife in one hand, cake staring back at you. “Yeah. Unless you wanna watch me murder this thing.”
He smirked, stepping beside you. Close. His shoulder brushed yours as he reached for a stack of plates.
“What kind of cake is this, anyway?” he asked, leaning just enough to read the label on the box.
“Chocolate with strawberry filling. Sarah picked it out. Said it was ‘romantic birthday vibes.’”
Joel laughed softly. “That girl’s gonna run a matchmaking business one day.”
“She already is. We’re just her test subjects.”
You looked up to find him looking down, his eyes flicking to your mouth just for a second. Just a second—but it was enough to knock the air sideways in your lungs.
You turned back to the cake, hoping your hands weren’t shaking. You started to cut, and Joel leaned closer, one hand resting on the counter beside you.
“Need me to steady the plate?” he asked.
Your hands were a little clumsy, distracted by the warmth of him next to you. “Maybe. It’s a two-person job.”
He chuckled, and you could feel the laugh more than hear it—like it buzzed through the space between your arm and his.
Then—
“You guys are standing really close,” Sarah’s voice rang out behind you, making you jump. She was leaning on the doorframe with a smug little grin.
Joel jerked his hand away like he’d been caught stealing.
“I was helping,” he muttered.
“With cake?” Sarah raised an eyebrow.
“Cutting’s an art,” Joel said, deadpan, making her giggle.
You just shook your head and passed her a plate. She skipped off with her prize, leaving you and Joel blinking in the soft hum of the kitchen.
“Thanks,” you said after a beat. “For everything today.”
Joel nodded, still a little red around the ears. “Wasn’t much.”
“It was,” you said. “And the book… I mean it.”
He smiled, shy but genuine. “Glad you liked it.”
And then neither of you moved. The air hung between you like a stretched-out string.
Until Sarah called from outside, “We need cake now!”
Joel exhaled. “Duty calls.”
You followed him out, but something lingered behind in the kitchen—the warmth of him, the nearness, the feeling that this thing between you wasn’t just in your head anymore.
Tumblr media
The backyard had emptied. The last of the neighbors had waved their goodbyes. The string lights were still glowing, bugs dancing lazily in their warmth. Your dad had gone to bed after mumbling something about “too many burgers, not enough bourbon,” and the house was quiet now — quiet in a way that left too much room for your thoughts.
You were in the kitchen rinsing out plates, the hem of your party dress damp from leaning too close to the sink, your hands wrinkled and smelling like lemon soap. There was half a chocolate-strawberry cake left, the one Sarah had insisted on, and somehow you couldn’t just toss it.
She would’ve protested. Loudly.
You dried your hands, boxed the leftover slices neatly, and stared at the little pink-and-brown cake box for longer than you needed to.
Your feet moved before you could talk yourself out of it.
It was pushing 10:30, but Joel’s porch light was still on, casting a dim halo around the faded welcome mat. You knocked lightly, the box balanced on your hip.
A few seconds passed. Then the door creaked open.
Joel stood there barefoot in gray sweatpants and a black T-shirt, looking tired in the way only dads could be — soft around the edges but still solid, still present. His hair was tousled, and he looked like he’d only just sat down for the night.
“Hey,” he said, surprised but not unhappy. “Everything alright?”
You held up the cake box like a peace offering. “Didn’t feel right keeping it. Sarah picked it. Thought she might want it.”
He stepped aside, motioning you in. “She would’ve. She’s at Tommy’s tonight, though. Asked to sleep over.”
You paused on the threshold, your heart thudding a little louder. “Oh.”
“Come on in,” Joel said gently. “You sure you’re okay?”
You nodded, stepping inside. The house smelled like clean laundry and cedar. Familiar and warm. Lived-in. You followed him into the kitchen and set the cake down on the counter.
Joel leaned against the doorway, arms crossed. “Long day?”
You smiled faintly. “Fun day. Weird, too. Turning twenty-two in your childhood backyard while your babysitting kid gives you love advice.”
Joel chuckled, eyes crinkling. “Yeah. She’s... somethin’.”
You leaned back on your elbows against the counter. The room was dim — just the small lamp over the sink on — and the silence was comfortable at first. But then it turned charged. He hadn’t moved. Neither had you.
Your gaze drifted. His jaw was stubbled, his hair slightly damp, like maybe he’d just taken a shower. He looked... good. More than good.
You caught him watching you back, just a second too long.
The moment thickened.
“I, uh,” you started, voice catching slightly. “I meant what I said earlier. About the book. It was... really thoughtful.”
Joel looked at you then — really looked — and whatever wall he’d been holding onto, the one made of age difference and neighborly boundaries and the awkwardness of being Sarah’s dad... it cracked.
He pushed off the doorway slowly, walked toward you, stopping just close enough to make your breath hitch.
“I’m glad you liked it,” he said softly.
The space between you was a livewire.
“I keep trying not to think about you like this,” you whispered, voice barely audible.
His jaw tightened — not in anger, but in restraint.
“Me too.”
You didn’t move. Neither did he.
Then — softly, carefully — Joel reached up and tucked a strand of hair behind your ear. His fingers brushed your cheek, lingered.
“You’re too young for me,” Joel said, the words barely more than a gravel-edged whisper.
You looked up at him, your chest tight, heart thudding in your throat. “I’m not a kid.”
His eyes darkened, like you’d struck a match in the middle of a dry field. He swallowed hard. “I know.”
The silence between you turned into something electric, something living. The only sound was the quiet hum of the fridge and your own uneven breathing.
Joel took a small step forward, just enough to close the last of the space. He stood so close you could see the flecks of gold in his eyes, the faint crease between his brows like he was warring with himself. His hand came up—slow, hesitant—and hovered near your face before he finally gave in and touched you. His thumb skimmed along your jaw, rough fingertips brushing the soft edge of your cheek.
“Been tryin’ real damn hard not to want this,” he said, voice ragged.
Your breath hitched. “Then stop trying.”
That was all it took.
He kissed you.
But it wasn’t soft. It wasn’t tentative. It was weeks, maybe even months of unspoken glances, quiet admiration, long nights with Sarah between you, laughter over coffee, shared space, and now, finally, just the two of you.
His mouth found yours like he’d already dreamed it. His hands were sure now, cupping your face, sliding into your hair, then down—down to your waist, your hips—pulling you flush against him. You made a quiet sound against his mouth and that undid something in him. He groaned, low in his throat, and kissed you deeper, lips parting, tongue brushing yours, slow and deliberate.
You didn’t realize you’d moved until your back hit the counter behind you. His hands braced on either side of you, caging you in but never pressing too hard. Just close. Just real.
You slid your fingers into his hair, damp from a shower or maybe just the heat of the night, tugging lightly. He leaned into your touch, one hand sliding beneath the hem of your shirt at your back—his palm hot against your skin, callused but careful. The contrast made your knees weaken.
When he finally pulled back, he didn’t move far. His forehead rested against yours, his breathing fast, uneven. You could feel his heart pounding through his chest, matching yours like a drumbeat in sync.
“I shouldn’t have done that,” he said again, but this time it sounded like a confession. A regret that wasn’t real.
“But you did,” you whispered, lips still tingling, hand still curled into his shirt like you couldn’t let him go just yet.
Joel’s eyes searched yours, something stormy flickering in their depths. “If you stay... if we do this... it ain’t casual for me. You understand that?”
You nodded slowly.
A beat passed. Then another.
His hand slid to your cheek again, and he kissed you once more—slower this time, a kind of reverence in it. His lips pressed to yours like he was trying to memorize the feel of you. Like he didn’t quite believe it was real.
When he pulled back again, there was a trace of a smile at the corner of his mouth. Tired. Hopeful. Hungry.
“You wanna stay?” he asked softly.
You looked at him, really looked. His bare feet on the kitchen floor. His hair mussed. That tiny crease between his brows. The way his eyes had gone soft, all guarded affection and barely restrained want.
“Yeah,” you said. “I do.”
Joel’s breath was still shallow when he stepped back just enough to look at you, like he was double-checking that you were still there, still real. You didn’t let go of him. Your fingers were still hooked into the front of his shirt, still pressing against the solid warmth of him.
His voice was quiet, low and careful. “If we go upstairs…”
“I know what I’m saying yes to,” you interrupted softly.
He hesitated, studying you like you were a question he’d never been brave enough to answer until now. But something in your face, in your voice, seemed to break whatever final restraint he was holding onto.
Joel nodded once.
Wordless, he took your hand.
The walk through the house was quiet, heavy with tension—not the awkward kind, but the kind that hummed in the air like a string pulled taut. Each step up the stairs felt like it carried weight. Anticipation. Choice.
His bedroom door creaked softly as he pushed it open.
In the dim lighting, it felt intimate. Lived-in but not messy. Clean but unpretentious. The scent of him lingered in the space—cedar soap and sawdust, fabric softener and something deeper, something unmistakably Joel.
He turned to face you in the doorway, fingers still twined with yours.
“You still okay?” he asked, voice rough, eyes searching yours like he was afraid to blink and miss something.
“Yes,” you whispered, breathless. “More than okay.”
Joel looked at you for a long moment. Then he leaned in and kissed you again — deeper this time, with more certainty, like the last of his resistance had slipped loose.
Your fingers slid into his hair, tugging gently, and he groaned softly against your mouth. He tasted like something rich and dark and slow. His hands roamed, reverent and careful, touching you like he was trying to learn you by feel — every curve, every sound you made under his fingertips.
When you gasped as his hand skimmed lower, he paused. “Tell me if you need me to stop,” he murmured into your skin.
You shook your head. “Don’t stop. Please, Joel.”
He kissed down your throat, down your chest, leaving a trail of warmth wherever his lips touched. Your back arched instinctively, your body aching to be closer. There was nothing rushed in the way he undressed you — every movement was measured, like he was unwrapping something he’d wanted for a long, long time but never thought he’d be allowed to have.
And when you were bare beneath him, laid out in the soft hush of his bedroom, you felt more seen — more wanted — than you ever had before.
“You’re so goddamn beautiful,” Joel murmured, his hand brushing along your waist, your hip, your thigh. “Don’t even know what you’re doin’ to me.”
You reached for him, found the hem of his shirt, and he let you lift it up and over his head. He was solid and warm and real beneath your palms, and when you kissed down his chest, he hissed through his teeth — a sound that made heat curl deep in your stomach.
The rest came off piece by piece — not rushed, but not slow either. Just… inevitable.
And then he was over you again, skin to skin, his weight pressing you into the mattress, grounding you. His nose brushed yours, like a silent request.
You cupped his cheek. “I want this. I want you.”
He kissed you again — not soft this time, but sure, open, claiming. His hand slipped under your thigh, lifted you to him, and you felt him press against you, heavy and warm.
You both gasped as your bodies joined — not all at once, but slowly, carefully, like you were fitting puzzle pieces together. Like your bodies already knew the rhythm even if the rest of you hadn’t caught up yet.
Joel’s breath stuttered as he sank fully into you, and for a moment, he just held there — his forehead against yours, both of you trembling, trying to hold on.
“Jesus,” he whispered. “You feel like heaven.”
You didn’t have the words to answer. Just the way your hands clung to him, the way your body opened for him, welcomed him in.
He moved slowly, deliberately — not just fucking you, but feeling you, like this meant something. Like he was afraid to miss it.
And you met him, movement for movement, every breath shared, every sound caught in the dark like a secret.
There was something tender in the way he whispered your name when you cried out his — something reverent, like he couldn’t believe he was allowed to have you like this. And when your body tightened around him, shuddered beneath him, he caught you through it, kissed your cheek, your mouth, your neck — whispered that you were perfect, that you were his.
He followed soon after, his voice breaking into a groan as he pressed as deep as he could, shaking with the force of it, with everything he’d been holding back.
When it was over, he didn’t move far. Just enough to roll you gently to your side and pull you close, your bodies still tangled together, still warm and slick with each other.
You felt him kiss your shoulder, then your neck. “You okay?” he asked again, voice softer than ever.
“Yeah,” you murmured. “Joel…”
He pulled you tighter. “I got you, baby. I got you.”
You tucked your face into the space between his neck and shoulder, listened to his heartbeat.
And that’s how you stayed — wrapped in warmth, in quiet, in something neither of you were ready to name, but both of you felt all the same.

⊹₊⟡ Pile I
Cards pulled: the world, page of cups, ace of wands, 8 of pentacles, hanged man, justice, 4 of wands, oracle cards
Okay babe, like instantly I’m getting this vibe that you are in a field like marketing, finance, or something that really involves talking and writing. your job includes practical work, being clever AF, and not being emotional at all. You are into a field which makes you fulfilled (at least finacially or in you day to day life), and let me tell you… Your future partner is SO INTO IT. Like deadass, your practicality pulls them in like a moth to a flame. And listen!! It’s not that you don’t have emotions, pfft no. In fact, you’re such a sweet romantic, devoted lil baby when you actually care 💗. But the thing is, you only show it to people who deserve it. You’re not the type of person who is trying to prove how “good” you are to everyone. Period. You’re selective, you’re not out here giving everyone your full mushy marshmallow side of you. And honestly that makes People think you’re this emotionally cold, witty, maybe even selfish or boring. Some people see you as someone who can literally manipulate them buying something they didn’t even want 😂. Your words are your Lethal weapons, best thing you have. Your presence is so soft yet Strong AF.
Now, coming to how your person will perceive you. WELL. when they meet you, they’re gonna be like “This is the one for me. Period. End of discussion”. For some of you i feel like you’ll are not into love and relationships as much as they are by the time yall meet so when they shower you with their love and start love bombing you you’e gonna feel attacked in some way🤣 you’ll be like, “goshhh leave me alone” and they are like, “NOOO MARRYYY ME PLEASEEE” 😭😭 ISTG THIS PILE STARTED SOO CONFUSING AND TOOK SUCH A TURN LOL.
OKAY so this is a specific message I’m getting. Some of you went through betrayal in life in terms of love and have been quite unlucky in love so yall wouldn’t believe in love or someone who would make you their priority. This is so painful istg. to them your love is a gift of the divine. You’re someone they can risk it all. So this whole thing about you, they’ll sense immediately, without you even saying it, that you’ve been hurt. They’ll feel your silent belief that love might not be “your thing” anymore. Maybe you’ve even sworn off marriage? ouch 😭.
But your person don’t wanna change your mind with their huge declarations of love. No no. They’re more like, “Okay, you think love is a waste of time? Then waste it on me ” That message LITERALLY hit me, and i think i heard it in a song but it fits here perfectly. They’re all like: I am willing. I am hearing. I am risking. I see you. They don’t just like you, they want to settle down with you. (them considering doing this even though they are mostly going to be like someone who believes in short-term flings and one-night stands, DUDEEE this is crazyyyy)  they would be ready to do the most insane thing just to be with you. they are ready to DO ANYTHING. Like they would even agree to change countries, OVERNIGHT, if you give them a chance to be with you.
They would see you as a baby😭 not literally. I know this sounds so weird and awkward 🤡 but actually what i mean here is they would adore you like a baby. Nurture you and treat you like your heart is the most fragile thing to them.  They wanna be your shield, your literal security blanket. Someone who you would choose to rely on and trust. That’s their ultimate life goal at this point ✋🏻 They can see past the workaholic, composed outer shell straight to your soft, squishy inner child who needs healing and it’s high time to do it. And they’re like “lemme protect this one.”
But OHMYGOD this person wants to rush. Like it’s so funny. Iif yall have seen those vidoes of “hyper active gf/bf X chil gf/bf” I’ve been seeing that image since the beginning of this message. AHHHH I JUST THOUGHT OF SOMETHING. So among birds, the male bird is more gorgeous than female birds and they use their beauty to charm their female lover, I’m seeing a peacock here, like the female is just standing there🧍🏻‍♀️ and the male peacock is giving his best performance, which is just so hilarioussssss😭😭😭. So this is going to be the scene with yall as well.  They’re ready to lock it down. And You’re like “umm excuse me, I’m just now believing in love again” And yet, they’re already planning the venue and picturing the honeymoon. And hey, maybe even the physical stuff, they want closeness FAST. But not in a creepy way, they’re just excited to nurture you. MARRY YOU, even. Like… who does that anymore?!? 🥹
They give off BIG masculine energy, regardless of gender. Like… protective, active, pure-hearted, sunshine-in-human-form kind of vibes. i think you'll spent your life protecting and nurturing others so now your person is going to do all of that for you. This person is gonna light your whole life up. The Four of Wands says: “Happy endings only, baby.” Sooo yes, your life’s been all logical and methodical lately, but they’re here to remind you that JOY still exists, and you deserve it. ✨
Alsoooo, this person will be OBSESSED with you and we know that by now. but they are gonna respect you so much as well. Maybe even be intimidated and stunned by your emotional strength. Like they’ll see you as someone above them. The moment they meet you, it’s like “oh dang, I gotta step my game up to win them.” Which is HOT. They see you as an opportunity. The blessing. The “I can’t lose this or I’ll regret it for life” kinda vibe. You’ll make them realise what matters, no more wasting time with flaky BS ❤️
For some of y’all, your partner might’ve been a little wild before, like fucking around and doing whatever i want vibes. But after meeting you? BABY they’ll go through a whole mental transformation You’re more stable by the time they meet you, and they’re gonna learn so much from you, especially emotionally and spiritually. Maybe you’ll be going through a time of spiritual healing when you meet them, prolly because of the heartbreak we talked about earlier. Because some of y’all are interested in spirituality, art, literature, all the mystical and deep stuff. You’re that empathic, emotionally intelligent angel who helps them feel things properly for the first time. And that’s the reason they'll be losing their sht.
They’ll mirror you. Like literally pick up your habits, try your hobbies, and follow your routines because they just wanna be in your world. And this is NOT a time-waster. Nuh-uh. This person is action-oriented. They see something? They go for it. They like someone ( YOU)? They say it. No games, no hesitation. It’s giving: “my boy saw the girl, and he WENT FOR HER”
They’re gonna LOVE being around you. Worship your presence. Be obsessed with your voice especially. Also… this is gonna sound wild but THEY MIGHT SEE YOU AS A BABY COW  (but like the cute, innocent one okay!!). Especially if you’re younger or just have this sweet soft vibe, they’re gonna be like “must protect this smol bean.” 🥹
And if your last relationship made you be the parent all the time?? Like the mature one always giving and fixing? BLESS. THIS. NEW. RELATIONSHIP. Your persona is gonna heal that. They’re the protector now. They’re the one initiating, solving conflicts, planning a dang future with you. It’s not just love, it’s “LET’S GET MARRIED” level .
This person is LOUD. Like socially, energetically, “life of the party” loud. And you? You’re chillin’, vibing, admiring them from the corner, “that’s my person.” It’s giving introvert + extrovert harmony. Yin and Yang. Opposites that complete each other.

⊹₊⟡ Pile II
Cards pulled: Knight of cups, Knight of wands, the Sun, queen of swords, queen of cups, page of Pentacles, the Chariot and Oracle cards.
AHH MY FAVOURITE PILE. SEXYYYY LMAO
TO desribe your person's impression of you in few words: forbidded. irristible. tempting.
instantly when your person first meet you or have a proper conversation with you, they're gonna be like, "hey baby i think i wanna marry you" 🫡 (IYKYK) but the challenge they're gonna face is going to shake their ground 🤣
Your person is kinda like a bee. A WHOLE BEE. Just like a bee who wanders from one flower to another, and they believe there are many to taste and many to explore in this whole garden but they are so wrong with this mindset of theirs lol. Because the moment they meet you they’re gonna slapped with the reality check which will shatter this mindset😭😭
I feel like you'll are someone who puts a strong emphasis on material things and how you look and how the materialistic aspects of life and your social standing, career, and everything around that theme. You're ambitious towards your dream and goals, and you really value your social standing and everything related to the Venusian theme. And there is nothing wrong about that. you value your reputation immensely, this is something your person is going to notice as the first thing in you. To your fs you seem like someone who doesn't need anyone to complete you, to validate you, and that kind of intimidates your person initially, cuz they picks up on that instantly. that kind of want them to chase you HARDER because to them it seems you don't need them and they are not used to having run behind someone everrrrr. I think they had a fair share of suitors and people crushing on them, so they got whoever they wanted, but this time the script was flipped so they just can’t keep it lowkey anymore😂. And suddenly, they want to impress you (good luck with it mr/ms future spouse) . I think for a lot of you this person is going to be a younger person. But there is definitely going to be age gap of some sort. If not literally then surely on a maturity/ emotional level.
I’m also seeing that some of yall might be into healing job or something where you have to talk to people. You might be in a healing job like therapy, medicine, consulting, or something along these lines or maybe you’re just that one friend in your friend group whom everyone trauma dumps to cuz they know you would listen to them with no judegement and offer them the best adives. Either way, your person sees this soft, trustworthy energy in you right away. You just feel safe to them. Solid. Like you’ve got your priorities together, even if you’re still figuring things out (no judgment, same). There’s a huge chance you’ll meet this person through work or something career-related. Could be your first job, your current field, or even on a random trip that’s kind of job-related. When they meet you, it weirdly reminds them of something from their past, something emotional or meaningful, and it hits them. Like, you just click with a part of them they forgot was still there.
COMING TO THEM, Your future spouse is such a softie🫠. They seem quite charming, gentle and caring in nature. They are also super romantic when they actually let themselves show it. This person is one of the affectionate towards you and they are willing to commit towards you. They genuinely respect you a lot. Like, they see you as the full package. But here’s the thing about them, they kind of don’t think they’re the full package YET. They look at you and feel like they’re not on your level yet. Like they need to upgrade themselves and work on themselves a lot before even thinking about asking you out. They want to, they really do, but your strong energy throws them off just enough to make them second-guess themselves.  Still, they’re not backing off (GOOD JOB). one thing is for sure, They’ll be super into you from the get go, like instant butterflies. You might notice they get a little nervous or try too hard to play it cool, but underneath that, they’re basically like “how do I win this person over?????????.”
you come across as strong and soft, which is kind of your superpower. You speak your mind, but in the most graceful, non-aggressive way that still leaves people like “damn, okay.” That’s what gets them.
this might be someone who’s already in your extended circle. Could be a friend, mutual, someone from a family connection, or maybe they pop up at a gathering where there’s already some shared comfort. It’s not giving stranger vibe, it’s giving “Hey, why do you feel kinda familiar?” There’s this cozy vibe with them, like you’ve known them in some alternate reality. It could also be a past life connection.
Also, you're gonna find them super soft whn you actually get to know them on a deeper level. Like innocent-in-a-cute-way soft. They’re still figuring life out, but not in a mess, they’re just young-soul energy. And ou're the wise owl here. You’ll feel it. You’ve seen things, learned things, set boundaries, and now you’re in your “I don’t have time for nonsense” era. You’re fiercely protective of your independence, your peace, and your standards. Not bitter, not jaded, just self-respecting. You’re loyal, loving, and lowkey hilarious, and once people get past your gate, they’re in for life. That nurturing, “mom friend but make it glamorous” energy you radiate, that’s what pulls them in like gravity. You’re elegant and put-together in public too, like someone who always knows which fork to use and still makes it look casual.
Now your person is very into their goals. Like, this is the kind of person who has a whole plan of what they are going to do with their carrer. It could also be that they have some family business of some sort so their carrer path is already planned. They care a lot about career, money, education, and just...winning at life. And somehow, your connection will tie into that part of their world. Not saying it’s gonna be all business and work, but your presence shifts their focus. You spark something in them that makes them want more than just success on paper. You make them want real connection too. WITH YOU. they might act all chill and emotionally composed on the outside, but inside  they are just a fragile little baby 🫠They don’t always know how to handle all those emotions, though, so you might see them try to play it cool while they're internally spiraling like, “Why am I obsessed???”
They’re ambitious, yes, but emotionally not so skilled yet lol😭. You’re showing up as the wise one in this connection, and they’re the student. There’s a clear maturity difference here, but it’s not a dealbreaker. If anything, it’s adorable ( i’m lovinggg this😭). You’ve both got earthy energy, you vibe with the small joys of life. You’re the sunshine in the relationship, and they’re the knight/ the chariot protecting that light like, “Nobody mess with this, or you’ll answer to me.”
ALSOOO, They’re loyal AF, so you never have to stress about trust. Might be a little bit of a dreamer, definitely pretty (like, actually pretty), and they see the world with these rose-tinted glasses that make everything feel magical. They’re gonna look at you like you’re their personal dream ocme true. CUTEEEEEEE😭 Now, full honesty, they might not have been the most serious about love before. Kinda more “flings, sex and timepass” than “relationship goals.” But You're the exception. You're the one who flips the whole script for them. And they love it.
BESTIE THIS PERSON IS SOO UNPREDICTIBLE😭😭. Reading about them is like solving a confusing case. Something new is popping up every moment, once they are just fuck around energy, suddenly they are also career focused, then they are also emotionally deep and cute??!?!?! Like they are making me question myself😭😭
Like In their career and goals? Super focused. All about logic, hustle, planning. But in their personal life? Total softie. Cuddly, romantic, shy, and a little emotionally-driven puppy. Their heart leads in relationships, not their head. Which is funny, because it’s the opposite of how they act professionally. They’re not emotionally unstable or immature. they’re secure, they’re not gonna have you babysitting their feelings. It's a green flag there. Also, you two? Total “we feed the street cats and cry at sunsets” energy. You both adore the little joys like kids, animals, flowers, summers, random beautiful things, and they’ll totally join in on appreciating it all with you. If you say, “Look how cute this snail is,” they’re right there like, “OMG he has a little home 🥺.” songs cringe but with your fav person nothing remains cringe TRUST ME.

⊹₊⟡ Pile III
Cards pulled: 9 of wands, 2 of swords, the world, king of pentacles, 4 of swords, 7 of pentacles, king of wands, death and oracle cards.
Before diving into the reading, i'll have to say that this pile has the strongest and heaviest energies. I had to pause multiple times while doing this, and thus I will keep every message real with y'all as well to keep the real essence of the reading intact.
At first glance, you might look like someone who keeps everything to themselves, someone who’s always protecting themselves, guarding themselves, and has locked themselves inside a cage they made on their own. Maybe even someone who gets into conflicts here and there if someone tries to climb that wall.
In your life, you might have faced a really painful betrayal, where you believed in something or someone with your whole heart. Maybe it was a dream, a person, a career, a degree, a friend, or anything you truly trusted, and it didn’t work out. It broke your heart deeply. After that, you started protecting yourself. Your person will witness this entire journey, they will see you going through all of this. They will understand the depth of your pain. Maybe the signs were always there, maybe it was obvious that things weren’t going to work out, but you still believed. And now, you might even feel like a fool for believing in it.
You might think, "I didn’t even try to understand the truth when it was right in front of me." This thing likely happened to you when you were very young, which made the pain even harder. And that’s okay. You were young and vulnerable. But somehow, this pain you went through , it’s also going to hurt your person deeply. Like, they’ll feel that pain in their heart too. There’s a really strong water sign energy here, I feel it clearly. Maybe it's Cancer, Pisces, Scorpio, or even strong water planets in you or their charts. Some of you might have these zodiac signs, or maybe you just love being around water, because while doing this reading, I keep getting images of water. I can feel this water energy very strongly. Maybe your person is a water sign. Anything is possible.
Your person is going to help you go through this pain and heal from it. They will help you slowly open up again, break down those walls, and rebuild your spark. They want you to spread your wings again. They’ll help you gently dust yourself off, slowly but softly, and break out of those walls you built around yourself. They’ll help you come back to life. Once again, this is not a first impression because this person has known you for a long time. Even before officially meeting, I feel like they will already know about you in some way. So the whole idea of a first impression doesn’t apply here.
This is like the first pile I read, I don’t see this as just a first impression, but as a full journey. But when your person sees you, they’ll think you are someone with deep empathy and softness in your nature.
Okay, I’m seriously getting emotional now. I’m not joking. A sentence just came to me so suddenly, and it hit me hard:
"It’s not your job to heal everyone." "It’s not your responsibility to take care of everyone’s emotions." You are only responsible for yourself love. Spread your wings high and just fly, because that’s what you deserve.
This is exactly how your person sees you. This is what they want for you. They want you to see yourself the way they see you, strong, worthy, and free. I can’t even explain how much this sentence affected me while writing. I had to stop for five minutes. That’s how powerful it was. It felt like the most beautiful message ever.
You’ll meet this person during a really low phase in your life, when everything feels confusing, and you’re struggling to make decisions. You’re stuck in a very critical moment. You’ll feel frustrated, lost, like nothing makes sense. And even your person will be feeling something similar in their own life. They’ll feel like they’re trapped too, like someone has put them at gunpoint and they’re being forced to just look at what’s convenient or beneficial to others. You’ll meet your person at a low phase in your life, when everything is confusing, when nothing makes sense, when decision-making feels impossible, and you feel like you’re stuck in a really critical situation. You’ll feel exhausted, stressed. And honestly, your person, they’ll also be in a similar phase. Maybe even worse. They’ll also feel like they’re completely stuck in their own life. Like they’re being held at gunpoint and people around them are being selfish. While you, on the other hand, won’t even understand what’s going on or what exactly you’re doing anymore. So love at first sight or basically falling in love os a theme youll both explore at the MUCHHH later stage of your journey together.
Meanwhile, you're trying to figure out what you're doing with your life, and you can’t seem to understand anything clearly.
When yall meet or get to know each other, you might have been in a situation where your person could clearly see that you were going through a very intense phase in life. Maybe they were even a part of that journey, the journey where you had to face multiple moments of confusion and indecision. There were moment where you had multiple breakdowns and even times of self doubt and insecurity. And they’ve seen you go through all of that. So I feel like this person had already become a part of your life long ago, at a very early stage of your life because i don’t see any theme of first impression here. It’s more about how they actually see you. you'll only realize it much later, maybe very late in life,  how they’ve been ap art of your journey for so long, because you were so caught up and occupied with other areas of your life that you didn’t even notice this happening. You were so busy guarding yourself and protecting yourself that this wasn't even something that bothered you at all.
A specific message i am getting is you’ll begin to know this person when you are going through an important phase of your life, a transformative one, and something that is testing you. Like an important exam in your life, your job hunting time? Or just anything along these lines which needs patience and resilience and trusting in oneself.
This person is the kind of person who, more than themselves they wants YOU to succeed in life. This person will genuinely want you to succeed a lot in your life, move far ahead, and do great things. And they will notice how you hold yourself back from your true self, how you keep yourself controlled. They will see all of this and will want you to let go of this state of yours. They would wish you would stop holding yourself back and doubting yourself, and just spread your wings wide and high and explore every colours of life.
AHHHH. this is crazyyyyy. SO Right after I told you to spread your wings, I pulled an oracle card I got a message from that oracle Card, and it showed me the image of the Phoenix. Phoenix is a bird that holds powerful fire energy. In the image, it’s shown spreading its wings wide and high. I seriously got goosebumps seeing ths. That card instatly gave me a very clear message from the universe, it confirmed what I had just told you. It showed me how much this person wants you to grow emotionally. They want you to break out of your comfort zone, spread your wings, and live your life fully. They want you to experience everything in this world.😭😭
I can strongly feel that this person would go all the way to make sacrifices for you. This is definitely a love where your person won’t mind sacrificing anything for your sake, if it means your happiness. GOSHHHH I CANT-
This love is very real and grounded. It’s the kind of love where the person will go through ANYY pain just for you. They feel your pain like it’s their own. Maybe something happened in your past that made you become so guarded and protected, and this person wants you to feel your inner strength again. They want you to know that no dream or desire is more powerful than you. If you truly want to grow, nothing can stop you. This person carries very steady emotional energy, they are emotionally mature and stable. This isn’t someone who will bring unnecessary drama into your life over small things so you can be relaxed about that. One thing i noticed is how this person is SOOO similar to the the male lead of the kdrama when life gives you tangerines, how he dedicated his entire life for his wind especially him saying things like, “i can’t live without her” LORD.
This person will bring a lot of transformation into your life. The last card I pulled for you was the Death card, and that’s not negative here. It actually shows how this person is going to completely flip your life around and change everything for the better. As I’m doing this reading, I feel intense emotions. My energy feels drained, and my heart is pounding, i’m not eve kidding. I had to pause this reading multiple times cause the overload of emotions i felt were overwhelming at some point lol but im glad this tured out so beautifully ultimately HAHA. That tells me this is how strongly this person will feel about you, this is how deeply they will experience knowing you.
Again, this reading isn’t about a "first impression" because this is a long story. You both have known each other for a long time, longer than even words can explain. maybe even beyond this lifetimes. You complete each other, like puzzle pieces that perfectly fit together. So, in your case, there’s no such thing as a "first impression"   because your connection is very divine and complicated in a beautiful way.
You’re someone this person is truly ready to invest time, energy, and commitment into. They are ready to build something stable with you. They want to grow with you. As much as they want to live their own life, they also want to make you feel safe, happy, and secure. You both might even have a Twin Flame connection. Twin Flames often go through similar kinds of life events, and I think you both will experience that too. Maybe I’m wrong, but I feel like you two will have similar life stories or meet through a shared path. For example, maybe you're in the same college, doing the same course, or working in the same place,  there's a similarity here. Maybe through a same fandom of spiritual path. Your emotions will be very dependent on each other, even at a subconscious level.

CROCODILE
The office is dark when you step in.
The only light? The glow of a cigar. And a man in a chair, surrounded by smoke and silence—eyes locked on you.
“You’re late.”
You blink.
“What? I came as soon as I got ba—”
“Not tonight.”
His voice is low. Rough.
“Two nights ago.”
He stands.
You barely get out a breath before he’s in front of you.
Back hits the door. His real hand catches your chin. Tilts your face up.
You inhale.
His scent is overwhelming—smoke, spice, and something darker.
“You think I haven’t noticed the way you look at me?” he murmurs.
You shiver.
“I—”
“You think I didn’t feel you in those dreams you left me?”
His lips brush your jaw. Not a kiss. A threat.
“You said my name like it was the only word you knew.”
His hook rests cold at your hip, grounding you as his hand slides down your side.
“Begged me to touch you. Open you.”
“I—I don’t remember—”
“Then let me remind you.”
He kisses you.
Not soft. Not tentative.
Devouring.
You gasp. He groans—like he’s been starving and just tasted salvation.
“You haunted me.”
“Crocodile—”
“Say it like that again and I’ll bend you over this desk until there’s nothing left.”
You whimper.
“That’s the sound.”
He nips your collarbone. Hard enough to mark.
His hand drags down. Under your shirt. Fingers grazing your skin, slow and possessive.
“You sure you don’t remember the dreams?” he whispers, lips brushing yours.
You shake your head. Barely.
“Then maybe I should show you everything you begged me for.”
And this time?
He doesn’t stop.
MIHAWK
You return late, without a word. Just how you left.
Boots click softly through the marble halls of the castle-like manor. The candles are dim. The place is quiet.
You round a corner.
He’s there.
Leaning against the wall. Cloak heavy around his shoulders. Eyes gleaming under low light. Watching you like he knew the exact moment you stepped foot on the property.
You blink.
“...Mihawk?”
He says nothing.
Pushes off the wall.
Walks toward you—purposeful. Silent.
Something in your chest tightens.
You take a step back—
He’s faster.
His hand slams the wall beside your head. You flinch—your spine hits stone.
He leans in. So close your noses nearly brush.
“You’ve been gone. Too long.”
His voice is low. Rougher than usual.
“I—I had something I needed to—”
“And every night since...”
His hand trails down your side. Grips your hip.
“You came to me in my sleep. Whispering my name. Writhing beneath me.”
You freeze. Lips parting.
“I—I didn’t mean to—”
His other hand catches your jaw, fingers tilting your face up.
“You think I believe that?”
His eyes lock to your lips. And for a moment—he hesitates.
But you’re looking up at him like you want him to break.
And that’s all it takes.
He crushes his mouth to yours.
Hard. Heated. Deep. It’s not gentle. It’s not slow.
It’s possessive.
His lips bruise. His tongue leaves no space between you. His hand on your waist tugs you tight into him.
Your gasp gets swallowed.
He presses you to the wall like he’s trying to anchor himself there.
“You cast quite the little spell on me.”
“Mihawk—”
“Say my name like that again and I’ll ruin your throat.”
You moan softly into his mouth.
He groans.
Your legs go weak. He notices.
And he loves it.
“Don’t you ever disappear like that again.”
You nod, dazed.
He kisses you again. Slower. But no less deep.
This time, it’s not about frustration.
This time, it’s about need.
MARCO
You return to the medbay late, expecting a quiet reunion. You’re humming. Tired. Just hoping to get off your feet.
But the moment the door shuts behind you—
“Oi.”
His voice is low. Hoarse.
You turn.
He’s standing near the supply shelf. Lab coat undone. Sleeves rolled. Hair messy like he’s run his hands through it too many times.
And his eyes? Locked on you.
“...Marco?”
He doesn’t say a word.
Just strides toward you, slowly, like a lion pacing down from its throne.
You barely open your mouth—
SLAM.
Your back hits the cabinet. A low gasp escapes you.
His hand settles against the wood beside your head. The other curls around your waist, pulling you in tight—flush to his chest.
You can feel it.
His heat. His tension. His arousal.
“You really didn’t know what you were doing, huh?” he murmurs, voice low and wrecked.
“W-What do you mean—?”
He chuckles darkly. Nudges your nose with his.
“Four nights, baby.”
“Marco—”
“Four nights of you on top of me. In my head. Moaning my name like I was the only thing keeping you alive.”
You blink. Breathless.
“I—I didn’t know I—”
His lips crash into yours.
It’s deep. Wet. Desperate.
His fingers slide under your shirt, ghosting over bare skin. His knee slips between your legs, pinning you harder to the cabinet.
Your body arches into his without thinking.
“I woke up aching for you every damn morning, yoi.”
Another kiss. This one filthier. Your gasp draws his tongue in deeper.
“I thought it would stop when I saw you again…”
He growls against your mouth.
“But now I want you worse.”
You whimper.
His hand tangles in your hair.
“Tell me to stop.”
You don’t.
You can’t.
Your lips meet his again with fire.
“Yeah, that’s what I thought,” he whispers.
And this time, when he kisses you—
He kisses you like he’s never letting you leave again.
ACE
You come back from your assignment around sunset.
Your boots echo down the corridor as you head to the deck of the Moby Dick.
He’s sitting on the railing just outside the kitchen, watching the waves, posture relaxed.
But when he hears you?
He turns his head— And his whole body stills.
You smile.
“Hey, straaanger. Missed me?”
His lips twitch.
“You have no idea.”
You walk closer, thinking nothing of it. He stands as you pass.
“Phew, long trip! I brought snacks, though. Figured you'd be—”
He grabs your wrist.
You blink up at him.
“Ace?”
His expression is unreadable. A soft frown. Something burning low behind his eyes.
You were in my dreams.”
Your breath catches.
“I was? Awwww, how cute—”
He glares. Steps closer. You're almost touching.
“Not just once.”
You shift, your back brushing the wall behind you. You don’t realize it until it’s too late.
“For three nights.”
He places a hand against the wall beside your head.
“Kept thinking it’d stop.”
He chuckles. Dry. Not amused.
“But it didn’t.”
His eyes lower to your mouth.
“You had your hands all over me. Said my name like it actually meant something for once.”
You try to respond, but your breath betrays you.
He leans in.
“It felt real. Too real.”
His voice drops, low and steady.
“Woke up sweating. Frustrated. Missing you.”
Your back hits the wall completely as his hand slides to your waist.
“And now you’re here…”
“—Right here in front of me.”
He kisses you.
Slow. Deep. Hot.
A kiss that knows exactly what it wants.
You gasp into it. His hand on your waist tightens. His body presses into yours just enough to make your knees shake.
When he pulls back, his voice is husky and the air is scorched.
“Did you mean it?”
You swallow.
“...What?”
He brushes your hair behind your ear.
“The way you touched me. The way you said my name.”
You stare into his eyes.
Then nod.
“Y-Yeah.”
He leans in again.
“Yeah?”
“Yeah.”
He smiles.
“I'm glad.”
He’s so glad. Because this time?
He’s not letting you wake up without him.
SHANKS
You board the Red Force just before sunset, waves golden and glittering behind you.
You stretch your arms and laugh.
“Mmm, it feels so good to be back!”
He hears you before he sees you.
Leaning against the railing near his quarters, half-shadowed. A bottle in one hand, his coat slung over his shoulder.
But his eyes? Dead on you.
“Well, well… look who finally came home.”
You grin.
“Miss me?”
“Every night.”
You laugh—but don’t notice how still he’s gone.
“Bet the crew missed me more.”
“I didn’t say the crew.”
Your smile falters.
He steps forward.
You step back on instinct.
“Shanks—?”
Your back hits the cabin door. He cages you in—one arm next to your head, his chest pressed against yours.
“Three nights.”
His voice is low. Rough. Not joking.
“You. Me. Right here.”
You blink, breath catching.
“I don’t—I didn’t know I—”
“You didn’t have to.”
He leans in, brushing his nose against yours.
“You rode me like you owned me.”
“Shanks—”
“Said I was aaall yours.”
And then?
He kisses you.
It’s filthy.
His tongue parts your lips without warning. His hand grips your thigh, pulling it up against his hip as he pins you harder to the door.
Your gasp disappears into him.
His breath is fire. His mouth is all heat and hunger.
When he finally pulls back, you’re dazed—barely holding yourself up.
He chuckles, low and dangerous.
“Still think I didn’t miss you?”
You shake your head.
“Good girl.”
His lips graze down your neck.
“Now let’s see if you meant everything you whispered when you were possessing me in those dreams.”
Your knees give out.
He catches you.
And smiles like he’s won the grand line.
LAW
You walk into the Polar Tang’s medbay with a skip in your step, tossing a file onto the counter.
“Mission complete. I didn’t die. I deserve snacks.”
He doesn’t answer.
You glance over.
He’s sitting on his stool, coat off, gloves gone, eyes on you.
But there’s something off in them.
Sharp.
Tense.
You blink.
“...You okay?”
He stands.
Silent.
You open your mouth to speak again, but he’s already crossed the room—grabbing your wrist.
“Law—?”
You’re turned, spun, and pinned to the steel wall.
His body cages yours. His hand slams the wall beside your head.
“Three. Nights.”
His voice is dangerously low.
“Three nights you’ve been crawling on top of me in my sleep.”
You blink. Red.
“What? What do you—”
“Shut up.”
His fingers slide along your jaw.
“You said you wanted to be ruined. By me. Only me.”
“I-It was just a dream—!”
“No. It wasn’t.”
He leans in. Breath hot. Voice sharp.
“Because I’ve thought about it every minute since.”
His lips brush yours.
“And now you’re back. And I just don’t give a fuck anymore.”
He kisses you.
Rough. Desperate. Unforgiving.
You gasp—he swallows it. His hand grabs your waist, the other threading into your hair. His body presses close, hips locking you into place.
He kisses you like he’s claiming you.
And maybe he is.
“Law—” you whisper, dazed.
He breathes against your lips.
“You want me to stop? Say it now.”
You shake your head.
“Good.”
His mouth is on yours again before the word even leaves.
Because whatever happened in those dreams—
He’s making it real.
CORAZON
You slip into his room like always, balancing a warm drink and a little smile.
“Rosi, I brought you chamomile! Thought you could use a quiet night in.”
He turns.
He’s sitting on the edge of the bed, coat off, shirt wrinkled, hair ruffled like he’s barely slept.
And the moment he sees you?
His whole body goes still.
You don’t notice at first.
Until you take a step closer—and he suddenly stands.
Tall. Towering. Staring.
You blink.
“Rosi—?”
He crosses the room in three slow, heavy steps.
Takes the cup from your hand.
Sets it aside without a word.
Then leans in.
You try to speak—
“I dreamed of you.”
His voice is quiet.
But deep. Raw. Wrecked.
“Every single night you were gone.”
Your blink, then smile. Hesitantly.
“U-Um, was it at least a nice drea—”
“—You were on top of me. Whining. Begging. Touching me like you’d die if I stopped.”
You freeze.
His fingers brush your jaw. Tuck your hair behind your ear.
“I’m sorry. I thought I could handle it.”
He leans closer.
His nose grazes yours. His lips hover.
“But now you’re here, and I...”
“I can’t.”
And he kisses you.
Not soft. Not shy.
Hungry.
His hand cups the back of your head. His body presses into yours, guiding you gently but firmly against the nearest wall.
The kiss deepens—wet, open, breathless. You whimper. His hand tightens at your hip.
He pulls back, breathing hard.
“I’m sorry,” he pants. “I just can’t pretend you don’t undo me.”
“Rosi—”
You kiss him back.
And he melts.
But only for a moment—before pressing his forehead to yours.
“You said you loved me. Tell me you meant it.”
“I did.”
He exhales—shaky.
Then smiles.
“Say it again.”
“I love you.”
He huffs a laugh, blinking back tears.
And kisses you like he’s never letting go.

⭒ㅤwhose (not) random kid
Tumblr media Tumblr media
premise. crash landing from the future is apparently your kid, not that you know that anyway... in the form of a mixture between you, and your... supposed counterpart, clues are bound to pile up as to whose child this is.
parts. rosehearts, kingscholar, ashengrotto, al asim, schoenheit, shroud, draconia
cont. gender neutral reader, use of 'mada' which is just 'mama' and 'dada' cut in half for our resident shrimp (aka yuu), a yummy 5.8k words that I did not expect to get this long lol
note. I only have a rough outline of what's going to be included with the others parts after the names of the kids lol. I'll probably write leona's as usual after this but I can't promise I'll release one more part after his this month, the rest will probably come next month considering I'm bombarded sadge. paper defense, then final exams next month save me
also hello! my unnofficial: I'll try to post more

riddle
when you slid a foot over the portal to heartslabyul there’s some sort of a strange–inexplicable air that surrounds it. usually the dimension is light to be in, unlike the tingling feelings of being in octavinelle or the eeriness of ignihyde. all dormitories had their own particular sensation that weighs on you depending on where you were.
you squinted, deciding to shrug it off. there was no way you had a sixth sense for feeling in the literal air!
barely a foot in though, was something you could only explain as an army of card… soldiers trudging from the other end of the sidewalk to the next. dumbly, you stopped right in front the shimmering portal that settles into a smooth sheen of silver behind you as they just kept coming.
they seemed to be looking for something–or whatever but you don’t really want to know what so you slowly inched to the side, hoping to sneak past them even if you had to go into one of the confusing mazes (which was a struggle considering you’re trying not to laugh as one of them trips).
must be ace’s wretchedness rubbing off of you.
the real question was, where in the seven were your resident idiots? you’d already sent a text over for your impromptu visit to the chat consisting of you three and figured they had seen it like they usually do then waited for you with feigned begrudging-ness that does not fit well with them showing up in the first place.
you fish for your sad excuse for a phone in your pocket, cater’s words not yours. you’re more busy trying to merge your backside as you shuffle and pull up the chat to notice the ever nearing edge of the hedge wall that makes you stand out in comparison to the lighter shade of green brushing against your uniform.
not deuce: you guys ever notice the card soldiers infestation near ur mirror portal…?
not ace: you nedea to RNR RUN RN!!
not yuu: what???
there’s not much time to ponder about the cryptic, seemingly panicked expression of deuce’s message as you looked up from your phone, feeling a slight chill crawl up to your spine like you attracted some sort of unwarranted trouble that is also unwanted.
disclaimer: you (uu) did
“over here!” an unfamiliar voice yells, freezing you in your tracks just when you were about to make the sneak of the century. without a moment’s hesitation you darted deeper into the maze and shoved your device within the confines of your pockets as you held in a mortified scream at the sudden mob upon your tail as you ran.
WHY WAS THERE SO MANY? you yelled in your mind. number one rule in horror games don’t look back. don’t look back. don’t look back–
oh sevens you’re looking back.
the decision immediately fills you with regret when you spot the diabolical amount of card soldiers trailing after you like you just slaughtered their queen in front of whatever kingdom they came from! was this someone’s unique magic? there was no way riddle would let this sort of thing go rampant on his dorm!
you almost keel over in shock when the pointy end of a heart on the end of a pole sticks right on the patch of grass you just barely managed to trudge across with increasingly heavier steps. maybe you should actually take jack’s offer to join track and field–your stamina is horrible–you’re gonna get stabbed.
goodbye world. you thought warmly with a chorus of pants.
a deeper voice bellowed from the crowd from your behind. “three of hearts! are you thin-headed? do not harm the majesty!” the steps behind you stop almost abruptly, and you don’t stop running even as the voices fade. idiots for choosing to chastise their idiotic comrade but you’re not complaining as long as you get away from this horrid situation.
your majesty what now?
you don’t know how far you ran by sticking to all left turns until you flop down on the entrance of the maze, the archway barely offering you any relief as you took deep breaths and fought the urge to lay down on the grass and hope it camouflages your grey uniform.
that won’t work but you’re coping at this point.
not deuce: HELLO  I ALMOST GOT SKEWERED BY LITERAL CARDS?
not yuu: that’s a humiliating way to go down from
not ace: don’t be insensitive ace! are you ok?!
not deuce: NO? WHAT IS GOING ON
not yuu: riddle got dethroned and i'm not even happy
not yuu: it's the absolute WORST AT THE DORM!
not yuu: you better turn back rn and get away from ‘labyul coz it’s getting run by a kid
not deuce: BACK INTO THAT DEATH MOB? no thanks
not ace: yuu brace up, cater texted that the new boss is on his way to you
not yuu: F for yuu
not ace: F
not deuce: F u
what you expect to be the final boss of your life, you guess from the approaching pairs of footsteps nearing your defeated form sprawled across the flecks of grass and still heaving comes in a surprising form of softness, and youth.
“mada.”
the blueness of the sky is shadowed by a tiny little head peering over your head. you’re startled by the tuff of red hair, and familiar pair of eyes which was strange, considering you have never seen this kid in your life. this was the new queen of heartlsabyul? you thought incredulously, since when were kids allowed in nrc…?
the thought was a breeding ground to raise the most evil person on the planet, considering the equally as evil people in night raven.
out of habit from the familiar chubby, round face you blurted: “riddle?”
the child blinked before they shook your head. “I am not papa.” their lips twitched into a small smile directed to you. if taken a closure look, this child’s resemblance with riddle really is uncanny. from the hair, even to a small golden crown sitting primly on the middle of their head. “mada, I am glad I found you. I have not seen papa yet.”
was this season 5 of stranger things?
they straightened. attention straying from you as you glanced to the other pairs of legs, whom you put a face to quickly. trey and cater both cast you a look of exasperation and pity.
then done like a true riddle–their face does a complete 360 and curls into anger as they stared off inside the maze. “all of you!” the tiny child rages with a concerning… change of color around their cute face, fingers pointed accusingly. how can a child be so horrifyingly scary?
the two third years do not mirror your confusion as you sat up, following the kid’s gaze to the archway where a myriad of thundering footsteps almost have you scampering away if not for them laying a small hand on your shoulder and somehow managing to ground you to stay still.
whose kid is this? you looked to cater who shakes his head uselessly
then to trey who wore a resigned smile.
the child’s brow twitches when the card soldiers lined up obediently. “I thought I had made it clear you not hurt mada.” they seethed, voice tilting in clear threat and a I demand you! sort of way. the card solider, three of hearts who had scared the living soul out of you trembled less subtle compared to the other guards.
of course this child had to get more terrifying by being observant, they caught the shiver of one soldier and narrowed their eyes. “ah, found the culprit. three of–”
trey shuffles forward with an awkward laugh that belies his usual laid back with–on his face is a twinge of concern as he raises his palms in a placating gesture. he steps forward three more times, sliding between the child and the line of soldiers but keeping the distance warily. “hey, kid. maybe we can discuss this with some tarts, and some tea?” he tries. children love sweets, right?
they keep their head level despite the astounding height difference. “I told you, uncle trey! being called ‘kid’ is disorderly! It's alice!” still, despite the brief protest their eyes sparkled with interest at the notion, even if they seemed a bit embarrassed to admit it. “i’m not supposed to eat sweets on mondays.”
“huh.” cater mumbled before the thin line of his lips rose into a familiar grin. “as in, rule 102 of the queen?” he queries with a nervous slide of his fingers through his hair. he’s not so obvious to directly state that he’s tiptoeing around… alice but a bit of months knowing him, you can tell.
alice nods along. they no longer look as bothered as before, the card soldiers all slump their tense shoulders a little when alice shifts their piercing gaze from the three of hearts before settling onto cater, who they offer a brief nod of agreement before returning back to trey.
well, a kid is a kid.
“but i can eat sweets on tuesdays.” they added hastily. like they don’t want the notion of trey’s treats slipping from their fingers but that would be strange, if the look of confusion you three share with each other you would have thought trey had initially baked for alice based off the tone of wistfulness in their tone.
trey smiles at them. “tomorrow it is.” reassured by their sheepish innocence he stops in front of them and grasps their shoulders, turning them away from the stiff soldiers. alice spares a brief glance at them. “what about these rule breakers?”
you stood up fully. “uh, don’t worry, they didn’t do anything wrong. i ran for too long.” you supplied in defense. if anything , a resemblance to riddle of all people meant that they could have the head offing in their blood. you did not want to stick around to find out, neither did cater.
alice considers you for a moment with a small sparkle in their eyes, with a wave of the small wand that maternalized in their hand, the soldiers fade into glittering spots of gold. only then do they let trey lead them back to the main pathway towards the dormitory of heartslabyul.
you fall into step behind cater who probably sees the question in your eyes so he lowers his voice discreetly, glancing at the back of trey who keeps the child’s bay attention so they don’t notice you two slowing down a little. nonetheless, still walking.
“that was little alice’s unique magic.” he says to you with a shrug, sighing after a glance at the former’s small, regal form. “pretty overpowered… kind of like my split card but less cute, and more dangerous.”
he winked, you frowned.
in front of you two, alice seems tame in comparison to the subtle bribing of trey questioning about their favorite sweets as you all finally reached the nearing entrance of the main dormitory
“where’s riddle?” you questioned.
he pursed his lips, navigating though the fountain in front of the dorm. “last i know, he went out early to campus cause of a meeting with his club for the upcoming NRC tour festival…”
oh, right. I have not found papa. alice’s voice echoes in your mind, so you echo the question that appears in your mind right after the memory. “alice called riddle ‘papa’ which i’m pretty sure is a term for a parent…” you trailed off. riddle seemed to be the least likely person to have a secret love child of some sorts, he seemed like he had most of his life planned out.
if riddle bent over backwards for his rules then he wouldn’t stray from the path he had set.
there’s a flash of interest in cater’s eyes, it was already there before, just dwindled. you watch it spark to life. akin to lighting some sort of fire within the guy, a gossipmonger at heart as he leaned in eagerly just as you both trudged up the stairs to the front doors who opened politely, and closed behind you as you walked in the main hall of heartslabyul.
“they look, and act like riddle!” he chuckles. “imagine our shock when alice popped up straight out of nowhere with an army at their beck and call.” cater clutched onto his arms, and shivered. you leaned away when he reaches his arms out to you in a teasing manner.
he adds. not at all offended by the way you scrunch your face at his ‘affections’. “they seem to listen to you though. like someone.”
you only regard him with an impassive raise of your brows. “i don't think so. riddle doesn’t listen to anyone. much less me.” befuddled by the mere idea, you scoffed. in all your magic-less glory, the best thing you might have achieved here in this other dimension was having the ability to wake leona kingscholar up from one of his power naps.
cater doesn’t seem to agree. only sighing at you from what it seems to be an of course. “only you can be so oblivious to the chaos you leave behind.” he says in response, making an exaggerated show of peering behind your shoulder and widening his eyes in feigned shock.
you humor him as you turned your head. the scene of the main entrance of the dormitory was the only answer to your eyes as you both walked into the living room–where little alice sits alone. you caught a glimpse of trey’s dark hair as he disappeared into the kitchen, most likely going off to make her a treat.
vaguely unsure if the male had heard him, cater calls out a “make us some too!”
“not my fault the students here are so… unstable.” you remarked with a roll of your eyes. remembering the overblots to be the most plausible reference to the chaos cater was talking about as you begrudgingly sat down on the couch and reeled in any other remarks for the child in the room.
who was now shuffling closer to your seated frame even if they thought they were being subtle in the movement.
what was two seats in the space between you and alice eventually became none at all, as they settled beside you and peered up with innocent eyes.
you tilted your head at them, alice copies the movement.
then to the other side.
they mirror the lull of your head.
“besides those.” cater cleared his throat after a bewildered glance at the child. “what’s more impressive is that you’re still here, yuu-yuu. night raven is like… a pack of wolves trying to run you off crying, and you? you’re a very weird sheep.”
still a bit enraptured on this child, you replied without your stare wavering from the roundness of alice’s cheek as you reached up to pinch it. to yours, and cater’s surprise. their previous cute ferociousness is not present at all as they leaned against the warmth as though instinctive. “i didn’t do anything.”
you don’t entertain the accusing look in cater’s eyes.
“if that was you not trying to beast tame the school then i don’t know what’ll happen if you put in the effort.”
you both lapse into silence as cater–who seemed to sense the finality of the conversation lets it slip fully and instead, busies himself with the entertainments his phone provided. you redirect your full attention onto the elusive red-headed alice.
“so,” you started. “how did you end up here? must be a great feat if you were able to go past the barriers.”
alice curls their fingers within the fabric of your blazer, inspecting it as they reply softly. “i’m not sure, mada. i was just sleeping, and woke up in a garden. the hedgehogs showed me the way after i offered them a caterpillar.” they do not mention a bleary moment in their sleep where they curiously wondered how you and riddle came to be as they drifted off. “as pertaining by rule 210… if you are lost in a maze, give the hedgehogs an offering and they shall show you the way.”
you can’t help but let your mind drift over to riddle, who echoes the rules to be followed when mentioned.
your lips twitch into a smile, much to the delight of alice. “strange indeed. must have been scary.”
their eyes squinted. “i’m not scared.”
you chuckled and pinched their cheek. they pout.
“where are you from?” you ask instead, wanting to know more about the.. figurative alice from nowhere.
alice looks at you strangely.
“from the queendom of roses…” could they simply be a relative of riddle’s? you thought mindlessly. drawing your fingers through the surprising soft red locks who seemingly part eagerly for your touch. “with my mada, and my papa. sometimes my uncles visit.”
unsure of how to reply, you merely nod along. parting their hair by half and twisting it into a braid. “you called me mada.” you hummed.
“because you are my mada.”
she says like it’s the only thing that makes sense in her small world, not relinquishing her grip on your blazer but instead tugging at the wrists to expose the small slither of skin and hold onto it. clingy. you thought, deciding not to question it.
… was this your freaking kid?
the smell of strawberries wafts over the space of the living room alongside the ticking of the oven–momentarily taking both alice, and cater’s attention. the latter stretches before standing to stride over to the source of the smell, no doubt requesting trey to change the taste once more.
alice’s eyes, like yours slid to your own. a bit shy in their demeanor as they clutched onto the skin of your wrist. “can i eat some of uncle’s tarts?” they queried under your breath, only meant for you alone. you felt a bit confused but nodded nonetheless.
their lips twitched into an eager smile before it settles into a more controlled look of impassiveness.
that was adorable. you thought, unable to resist leaning down to scoop them into your arms as you stood. alice makes a sound of brief surprise before their arms loop around your neck. they sat pliantly still as you walked over to follow cater inside the kitchen, catching a glimpse of your scent that they sought for, so alice nuzzles their face into the warm pulse on your neck.
trey glances up from the animated retelling of cater about the crazy day. “new responsibility?” he wore a humored smile, apron long discarded and folded over the handle of the oven for the meantime.
if riddle saw this, he would not believe it no matter how intelligent he was. trey deduced.
he gestures to the tray set on the counter. “there’s frosted strawberries, blueberry cornmeal, and the good old mont blanc since i got left over ingredients from the last unbirthday party.”
alice feels the shift of your head as you glanced down at them, they don’t remove their head from the crevice of your neck for a moment and meets your eyes with a raise of their own. “frosted strawberries, please.”
“good choice, little alice.” cater comments.
“careful, it’s hot.” trey chided gently as he watched you pick up one of them, drawing it near alice’s waiting hunger as they tilted their head up from your shoulder. they took a small bite at the corners of the tart, smiling at the taste and only wider when you wiped remnants of crumbs around the edges of their mouth.
alice chews, and swallows before they spoke again. their eyes gleaming with admiration as they stared at trey. “it’s always the yummiest when it’s fresh out the oven.” they recited.
trey blinks.
“you’re a bright one.” he remarked, ruffling their hair when he drew near. “don’t tell anyone about the wicked secret ‘round the kitchen, all right?”
they nodded vigorously. “thank you, uncle..” they spewed politely, but evidently genuine.
cater munches from the other end of the counter. “we gotta protect alice,” he chuckled, eyes crinkling as he pointed his phone to you, tapping to snap a picture of the scene despite your warning stare. “too nice for the vultures we call students here.”
“you might be right.” trey shook his head, and you nodded mutely. more absorbed into letting them take bite by bite into the tart until it was about finished halfway. only then do you lay it back on the tray. how much sweets was ideal for a child to take anyway? regardless of you deeming it as enough, alice stays quiet and does not complain.
if they wanted more, you wouldn’t know.
“later.” you promised, leaning back when you were satisfied with their prim appearance. a pat of their hair to smooth down trey’s earlier disruption.
“later..” alice echoed.
a resident third year enters the kitchen. only to pause in their tracks and back away.
“domesticity is really the enemy of the students here.” cater sniffed, earning a chuckle from trey who found the comment funny. “imagine being happy, being broody and emotional are the real requirements to get admitted.”
cater finishes his snack with a pleased hum, and a grateful nod to trey. “by the way i messaged adeuce, sent them to stall dorm leader from going back as long as the dorm was… kind of in a wre–predicament.” he cleared his throat, casting a brief glance at alice to spot if they had taken offence to his almost uttered word.
“so now they’re en-route?” trey guessed, transferring the leftover tarts to a glass bowl. leaving the tray in the sink to wash for later. cater nods in response, typing on his phone with one hand. likely in cahoots with the two right now. “told them the coast was clear! no more trampling soldiers scampering around.”
trey eyed him. “what about the–”
just then, whatever trey was going to comment in rebuttal of cater’s easy reassurance was promptly interrupted by new individuals peeking inside. ace, and deuce poked their heads from the corner. as if trying to ascertain the danger level of whatever may be inside.
ace rougly nudges deuce when he spots you with a child in arms. for two people insisting on their unique, varying selfs. they mirror each other’s look of bewilderment as though their brain cells crackled and connected into a singular one. “what the seven?” ace mouthed.
you all do not notice the look of familiarity on alice’s face.
nor the brightening when riddle strides in with a petulant huff,
if riddle thought strangely, or disapproved of the two’s behavior then he wouldn’t have had the chance to comment on it before he was leveling trey with a sharp, inquisitive stare. “i would like a very good explanation as to why my hedges have been mangled to the ground.” his eye twitches with the effort of containing irritation. “three hours i’ve been gone. three! and when i enter heartslabyul the first thing i see is devastation upon my gardens!”
perhaps emotionally, riddle cried out in the last sentence.
even though such an expression should have frightened a child to some degree, alice relaxes in your arms but their face clouds in shame at his voice.
riddle whirls back to the other two lingering by the doorway who both flinches imperceptibly–cater tries to intercept with a nervous chuckle but is only met with a steely don’t even start! “ace, and deuce have me running around the school. saying something about yuu getting kidnapped by those.. vermin excuses of… students from octavinelle!" riddle seethed, breathing still a bit labored as favor of his statement about running around.
“dorm leader!” ace stood straight stiffly.
oh, did he just come from a frantic search in octavinelle?
“i even had to threaten collaring azul who i thought was lying about yuu.” with a deep intake of air, riddle breathes out and pinches the bridge of his nose, collecting his temper. much to the chagrin of deuce.
“we apologize.” deuce added sadly.
cater feigns ignorance by looking away but it’s trey’s look that has him adding to the defense of the two, rather than using the opportunity to scamper away with his head in tact. “ahem… we had these two keep you busy. so don’t be too harsh on them, riddle. us upperclassmen will take responsibility.”
a nod of agreement from trey gets riddle quiet.
the former tilts his chin to you. “yuu is fine, they’re right here.”
like he hadn’t even noticed before (he really didn’t), riddle’s head snaps to you immediately. his eyes would have been stuck to you, prodding for a valid explanation to your ignorance to his angry calls but instead, settles on the bundle in your arms.
“who…” a blink. “why in the world do you have a child! they are not welcome on school grounds! especially this time in the school year–.” riddle sputtered, instinctively sauntering over to take a closer look at alice who only stared without an inch of fear.
“papa.” they mumbled, voice measured but still echoing in the now quiet kitchen.
ace leapt up to your side. “that’s not right!” he gasped, squinting dangerously at riddle. any traces of earlier mortification gave way to whatever emotion he’s got on his face. “how could you sully yuu! they’re not a babysitter for your kid!”
“what?” riddle seethed, head flicking from ace, to you, then to alice.
despite a look of great reluctance, deuce nods from the doorway still. mumbling to himself. “dorm… dorm leader has a child…”
you vaguely remember trey offering the dazed guy a glass of water.
“unconfirmed earlier, confirmed now.” cater adds unhelpfully to the blazing fire of riddle’s rising anger.
riddle’s teeth grind together, jaw clenching as his fingers tightened into a fist. it was more of one his attempts at calming down rather than preparation for a physical alteration. “I did no such–!”
“don’t be mad at mada.” alice reaches for him, tugging at his blazer which surprisingly, quells the reddening of his face. now, he just looks a bit confused.
alice turns their head slightly. “mada, you can calm down papa.”
deuce paused before dropping to the ground.
“AH! he’s dead. this is why you don’t betray us by keeping secrets, yuu!”
“uh oh… trey help me with deuce… wait, should we just leave him? i mean, he’ll be just fine here, right?”
“... just take the other arm, cater.”
all the way back to the living room, riddle’s face remained tinged with warmth. alice, while reluctant to part with your embrace, seemed wholly pleased to stay by the other red-heads' side. insisting you sit next to him when you moved to sit by your two friends.
you obliged them despite riddle’s interest with the carpet.
the couch dipped at the weight of another. even so, the non-verbal conversation between alice, and riddle continued. the former pressed their lips together thinly, seemingly assessing the… youthfulness of the latter. they aren’t so used to this kind of look from him.
cater flinched, and look away from the flash of his phone. he elbows a dazed deuce.
“so,” ace cleared his throat, blinking his still wide eyes. “who the heck is this kid?!”
“language.” riddle chided sharply. though softened from its usual end even he isn’t so sure why it is from the mere presence of alice alone.
“rule 13, always present yourself with appropriate language.”
“always present yourself with appropriate language.” alice repeated.
riddle squinted at a relaxed alice, who tilts their head as if to ask ‘what?’.
“genetics is crazy. what’s next, the kid beheads us too?” ace points between the two.
alice shrugged. “only if you break the rules.”
“i do not have a child!” riddle protested.
“i am your child.” replied alice.
“apparently this one’s our kid.” you agreed begrudgingly.
riddle stares at you with a mixture of disbelief, and confusion.
darting between you and the kid like they're gonna start collating him in all his glory! sure, alice had red hair like him but quite a lot of people in the island have it too besides his relatives. the idea of… of him and you is just so out of this world that he can't wrap his head around it.
you? you who he hadn't paid attention to when you arrived at the ceremony? the very first person in that event that broke the rules? you, the very fading into the background student whom he believed to be a bad influence to his students ace, and deuce?
you he had almost hurt beyond repair at the bursting of his control so tightly held in his hands?
the brief skip of his heart when your eyes meet over the head of alice is enough to send blood rushing to his head, coloring it with his signature red whose warmth doesn't feel like the usual simmering anger he struggles to keep submerged. if anything, this feeling is practically leaping out the water and baring his face to everyone.
riddle does not look away. managing a look of what he tries to name as conviction but easily crumbles to fluster.
then the idea wasn't so bad considering this young child has proved to be raised dutifully, correctly without any worries of what he used to be burdened with as a child.
it gives way to curiosity.
despite his incredulously, riddle queries. “the gardens.” he starts with a measured narrow to his eyes, not too intense to possibly upset this.. future child of his whose eyes are strikingly familiar enough to halt the normal circulation of his heart once more for half a second. “were you responsible for the destruction of some hedges I've come across?”
alice shrinks into themselves. “i'm sorry papa.” they pursed their lips, voice genuine by the lower tilt. “i thought i could use my card soldiers to look for you, and mada. you told me about this place called heartslabyul before?”
“i have?” riddle blinks. the idea isn't too bizarre, it's only natural to think back on such things.
they nodded. “yes, papa. you talk about it a lot on our friday’s. about how it looked, how you were as it's dorm leader…” alice peeks a glance at you. “and your parties with mada.”
“unbirthday parties.” trey corrects. “sometimes birthday parties if it really is someone's birthday.”
ace perks up. “let me tell you then! from first hand experience!” he blanched. like opening light about his own struggles in heartlsabyul magically meant the truth to riddle’s own kid. “labyul is really strict on rules. you know on my first day, I ate a tart and—”
deuce stirred slightly.
at riddle’s glare, ace visibly wilts to which cater snaps a picture with snickers. “I mean… the tart was really good, made by riddle and all…” he sweatdropped.
“you shouldn't eat a tart that is not made by you.” alice replied thoughtfully. riddle can't resist a light smile at her words, feeling a sense of accomplishment as he nodded along. his hand hovers for a moment before it pats down on their hair. “that's right. I must have taught you well.”
you absentmindedly patted their head, taking turns with riddle to do so while  expertly avoiding his gaze. “you said friday though, why?”
“on friday’s we don’t go out.” alice says.
“that isn’t a rule by the queen of hearts.” riddle points out.
“you made that rule papa.” they replied innocently. “in our home, so we get to spend time together as a family.”
silence reigns.
“wow.” you cough. sparing riddle an approving glance. that… sounded nice… domestic, and nice. you supposed even as an adult riddle would still have some sort of grip on rules, considering he grew up with them, it helped him live.
and now rules he shaped helped him live with alice, and you apparently.
tick.
tock.
tick.
tock.
alice peers down at the watch they pull out from under their little adorable coat, oblivious to the stunned silence they left behind. hesitantly, they place a hand on your knee, legs swinging as they rest the other on riddle’s. “mada.” they smiled, this time widely. “papa. I gotta go.”
“what?” riddle's eyes widened. “you haven't finished your tart yet.”
“it's okay. I already ate a tart earlier, papa.”
“you can eat another, just this time. if you want.” he insisted, strangely worried.
cater raises his hand. “can I?”
riddle disagrees immediately. “no.”
muttering something about favoritism, cater looked away with a long sigh.
riddle's eyes lingered on the roundness of alice's face. from the shape, to the more detailed parts of their features. eyes, your eyes. the lushness of their hair, the soft curve of their lips tilted with innocence sends an unexpected grip in his heart, like it's heart stopping.
gosh. his heart just stopped. would he really have his own alice? his eyes darted to you. with you?
alice huffed lightly, skin glimmering lightly as their shade slowly grew transculent and faded with each blink of your eyes. “I can always eat papa's tarts. they're so delicious.”
“don't use too much magic.” riddle scolded with a crease in his brows.
you add. “don't anger riddle too much.”
“please eat his tarts.” ace encouraged.
trey shot him a look. “don't teach alice bad things.” he sighed, glancing at said child with a smile. “I'll teach you how to make your own tarts, ask uh… future me?”
cater, not wanting to be outdone quickly perked up. “as a future magicam star, I'll make you one too. little alice!” he added, self assured of his future fame.
when it all settles, all that remains is a space between you and riddle that feels too little than vast. and a remainder of your future.
“atleast we know what name we'll choose.” you can't resist but tease. riddle does not blow up like you would have thought from your remark, only sparing you a look of feigned annoyance with warming ears that doesn't support the idea of his irritation.
he resigns to a small nod. “I am assured they are taught well.”
ace glances between you, and riddle. “I miss alice already. riddle seemed a lot more lenient with them around. you think they got embarrassing stories from the future?” he comments off-handedly, leaning back against the couch and blowing on the fringe over his forehead. “when are you guys gonna make an alice? please make one now.”
cater whistles out of there.
trey shakes his head.
deuce–still passed out is thankfully considered by trey, who dragged his limp body with a nod of goodluck to ace.
you waved at ace. F indeed.
wait! don't leave me, upperclassman! ace cried in his mind, feeling the panic splinter his state of mind.
“ACE!” riddle gritted his teeth. “i'll hand down my sentence, the verdict comes afterwards–”
ace paled.
“off with your head–!”
trivia
alice’s name is very much inspired by alice from the one and only: “alice in wonderland”.
their unique magic is called: under my decree which is simply being able to summon card soldiers, and command them at their will! (in this case, after being sent to a maze and finding their way out thanks to the hedgehog. alice was able to discern that this was heartlsabyul, and figured they might be able to find their parents here, hence, why they used their magic.)
alice is written to be a well-behaved 8 year old.
the watch is a nod to my previous commissioned work who also dealt with the concept of time travelling and related to going back (ha, ha).
alice woke up by the sound of a clock ticking, and knew that hearing it again meant that their time was up.
the entire thing happened due to alice helping untangle a fae who happened to get stuck in their gardens at the backyard while they were looking for a hedgehog that had not yet eaten (spoiler: hedgehog was hiding in a small crack under the tree) the same fae visited them at night whilst sleeping and granted them a dream of whatever they wanted to wish. alice, feeling swayed by the magic despite being not aware made a wish to fulfill it.
boom! baby rosehearts in your faces!
alice woke up and immediately said young riddle was funnily shy to yuu. much to the confusion of actual current riddle!
their favorite tart is: anything with strawberries, like riddle.
rule 13, and rule 102 are entirely fictional and made up by me… for plot purposes…
not deuce = is actually yuu
not yuu = is actually ace
not ace = is actually deuce
deuce been sleeping for the entire time lol.
ace got roped into fixing the gardens with the collar on  #thatswhatyouget

Tumblr media
The motel room was stuffy to say the least - that usual aroma of stale cigarettes and cheap air freshener lingering around us. There was a dripping sound coming from God knows where and the AC hummed in between the concerning clinking from deep within the vents. It was crap. So crap. But it was home for a few nights; just like all the motel rooms that came before. Dean stepped past me and over the threshold, immediately slinging his duffle and jacket onto his chosen bed. He stretched his arms above his head, the grey Henley clutching his muscular abdomen and rising enough to flaunt what lay beneath. I sighed, following him in and slumping onto the bed beside his - the musty stench from the sheets enveloping me.
“Well…” Dean started, pulling Sam's laptop out of his bag and placing it on the small table by the window.
“Well…?” My voice echoed as I focused on the ceiling fan that spun off centre.
“...This is… nice?” His statement was more of a question as he looked around with raised eyebrows. I propped myself up on my elbows, flashing him a look of speculation.
“Seriously?” A moment passed before he huffed a long-held breath and slapped his large palms on his thighs.
“No of course not, this place sucks more dick than a hooker on payday.”
“You got that right,” I flopped back down onto the bed, a small dust cloud erupting under my weight. I closed my eyes and listened as Dean pulled a chair out from under the table, slumping down into it. Then there was the familiar click of the laptop opening followed by the sound of stuttered not-quite-touch-typing, presumably he was starting work on the case that we’d come here to investigate. The tap tap tap of whatever was leaking began to drill into my brain, my patience already wearing thin with the rooms dire ambiance. I pulled myself up to sitting, criss-crossing my legs on the bed and brushing whatever that dust from the bedding was off my sweater sleeves.
“When's Sam back?” I asked, watching as Dean searched the keyboard in front of him for some long lost letter.
“Uuuh, I'm not sure. He said to work this case without him.”
“Ugghhh, I bet he's having way more fun than us right now, it's not fair,” I plopped my chin into my palm and stared past the older Winchester out the window, almost willing Sam to appear and walk in like any other day.
“It's just some dumb wedding, I doubt he's having that much fun.”
I scoffed before I could stop myself, Dean breaking eye contact with the screen to throw me a raised eyebrow.
“Look,” I collected myself, “you didn't know Sam in college. He won't admit it but he was popular. Really popular. Not the total nerd you think he is. He's absolutely having fun with these people.”
“Yeah right. So who's at this wedding anyway? Why was it so important that he just had to be there?”
I rolled my eyes, knowing full well Sam had already told him all the details. Typical Dean.
“It's for a couple of friends who he and Jess were close with back then. Pretty sure the bride was prom queen in highschool or something and the groom was a trust fund jock. Either way, not my crowd,” I sighed slightly, memories from my college days flooding my mind.
Deans eyebrows twitched into a small frown, his thoughts seeming to cloud his vision for a second before he reluctantly dismissed them. I looked down into my lap for a moment, reminiscing how I always kept my distance from Sam whilst at Stanford, but he had always been that boy that would make my heart flutter when he spoke up in class or when I'd see him on the quad with his friends. I remember seeing him with his nose in a book once at my usual desk in the library, my cheeks burning when he caught me staring. Who would've thought several years down the line I'd be sat in a bottom-rung motel room with his obscenely good looking older brother researching monster lore. At least we would be researching monster lore, if it wasn't for the small growl my empty stomach had gurgled out. I couldn't stop the small pulse of embarrassment burning into my cheeks as Dean eyed me with a grin.
“Wanna get some lunch?” He asked, standing up like he already knew my answer.
“Fuck yes. I'm feeling burgers,” I shuffled to the edge of the bed and stood up, watching as Dean shrugged on his leather jacket and headed to the door, holding it open for me.
“Now you're speaking my language.”
*
The diner was almost as sad and withered as the motel room, however the food was nothing short of spectacular. I watched in awe as Dean polished off his second burger, a small glob of sauce sticking to his stubble and threatening to drip off his chin. He must've felt me watching in wonder - or perhaps disgust - as when he looked up from his plate he shot me a questioning glance.
“What?” His tone was a little defensive through the mouthful of fries he'd just shovelled in. I took a second before asking, half-genuine:
“Where do you put all of that?”
“Put what?”
“The food - where does it go? Do you have hollow legs? Two stomachs? Does it just evaporate as soon as you swallow it?”
He grinned, wiping the sauce from his face with a napkin.
“Goes straight to the abs baby. It's muscle fuel,” he leant back in his chair, stretching a little before patting his stomach to punctuate his statement. I simply rolled my eyes.
“Yeah right, you're not that muscly Dean.”
“How would you know? You've never seen me with my shirt off.”
“I know, and I plan to keep it that way.”
He feigned a pout before returning to his fries. We ate in a comfortable silence for a few minutes, my mind absently going back to all the lore we should be trying to gather. I gripped my milkshake that had so generously been served in a thin paper cup, attempting to suck the practically solid beverage up the equally thin paper straw. Finding the nearest library would be the next task on our to-do list, despite the protesting I know I'll get from Dean.
“Hey, (Y/n)?” My train of thought was derailed at the sound of my name. The slurping of over-thickened milkshake from myself ceased.
“What's up?”
“What were you like in college?”
I eyed him with caution, wondering what part of his brain was in control right now.
“What do you wanna know?”
Catching the wariness to divulge him to such information, he smiled slightly, shrugging his shoulders.
“I'm not asking to be weird, I just-” he paused, choosing his next words tactfully, “the way you described Sam as being a totally different person - some hot-shot with the perfect grades, popular friends and a girlfriend like Jess - it just got me thinking. How would Sam have described you?”
I almost spat my dairy-goop back into the straw, my brain freezing.
“Dean,” I started before planning what I was going to say, placing my cup on the table. “Sam wouldn't be able to describe me.”
My words brought a small smirk to his lips.
“You were that hot, huh?”
“What the fuck- no- I wasn't- he didn't- Sam never- ” I stopped myself before I had an aneurysm and took a deep breath.
“I was in a totally different crowd to Sam. He was always surrounded by people and, well, I barely even had a crowd.”
“Lone wolf?”
“Bingo. But definitely not the cool, collected, stoic type. Think more, invisible to the public eye, always carrying books, and borderline selective mute because of how shy I was.”
“Oh… what changed?,” Deans tone changed entirely, genuine intrigue seeming to take the wheel. I couldn't help but laugh slightly, remembering my method to forcing myself out of my bubble.
“The only job I could get was in a bar. No one else wanted the hours and I desperately needed cash. I didn't really have a choice after that,” I paused, remembering how terrified I was on my first day and grinned slightly, grateful for the extra confidence I had now because I took that leap.
“Hey, what sort of crowd do you think I would've been in?”
I snorted, looking up into his expectant eyes - almost captivated by the glistening greens.
“What am I? A BuzzFeed quiz? I have no idea Dean, you're too much of a wildcard to predict. You probably would've fit in with anyone and everyone.”
“Even you?”
For reasons unbeknownst to even myself, my breath caught in my throat. The sudden soft sincerity of his voice contradicting his usual temperament, my heart starting to flutter in my chest. If the college version of myself had met Dean back then I just know I would have been enthralled at first glance.
“I don't think you would've noticed me. You would've been surrounded by every tall, thin blonde and brunette with perfect tits. Trust me, you would've been distracted,” I smiled an almost sad smile at the thought of him simply being on university grounds and having the time of his life - knowing it was something that he was never going to get the chance to experience in this upside down life of his. Of ours. He tapped his fingers on the table for a second, likely lost in some ludicrous thought I don't think I'd want to be privy to. I attempted another slurp of my milkshake when the paper straw gave out and flopped in half, the need to leave conversation and the diner suddenly looming over me.
“Come on, let's get to the library before it closes,” I stood and pulled my oversized sweater down so it covered my ass before reaching for my backpack. Just as my fingers touched the worn fabric of the strap it was torn away, my head snapping up to Dean who flung it over one shoulder with his signature grin on his face.
“Lead the way nerd.”
I couldn't help but beam at his playfulness. I hated the fact that he made it so easy to adore him. Hated that he completely overlooked how I was his total opposite in almost every way. How when we were talking, his eyes never left mine - how he was genuinely interested in what I was like in the past. And how, when I had his attention, he didn't even notice that the hot waitress had written her number on a napkin and left it next to him.
*
The trip to the library was about as eventful as it sounded. After checking out multiple books on cursed items, local lore and popular antiques from the seventies, we loaded ourselves back into the impala, made an all-important beer run before heading back to the motel.
The small table by the window was now totally smothered by a blanket of books, maps and empty beer bottles. Deans chin rested in his palms as he stared blankly at the screen in front of him, and I must've read the last sentence of the paragraph laid before me a dozen times without it even sinking in. The obnoxious dripping and humming of ancient appliances was starting to make me feel restless.
“It has to be the boots,” Dean groaned, draining the last of his beer.
“Either the boots or the disco ball. But my money is on boots as well,” I sighed, pushing the book away from me and standing slowly, gathering the quickly accumulating litter now scattered around us.
“I'm gonna make some coffee, my brain is fried over how fucking ridiculous this case is,” I ditched the trash in the bin before filling the coffee machine, listening to it whir to life whilst I headed to my bed. I could feel Deans gaze on my back as I rummaged around my bag in search of a specific item.
“What are you looking fo-” he'd started to ask the question but his voice died in his throat when I turned around. I quickly pushed my newly adorned glasses up the bridge of my nose, already feeling the oversized frame start to slip down as I tried not to make a big deal over them.
“What?” My tone was a fraction off aggressive when I realised he was staring. He seemed to snap out of his daze, quickly rubbing the back of his neck and turning back to the laptop screen. He cleared his throat
“I uh, I didn't know you wore glasses,” I could tell from the slight tremble in his voice that his mind was reeling.
“Is there a problem with that?”
“No! I mean, no, absolutely not. They look good. The glasses, I mean. The glasses look good. Not on their own, obviously. On your face. They look good on your face. You have a great fa-”
“Dean?”
“Yeah?”
“Shut up.”
“Sorry.”
I grabbed a mug from the cupboard and set it on the counter, filling it to the brim with caffeinated goodness. I couldn't stop the grin spreading across my lips at Deans fumbling, almost finding the whole ordeal a little charming. I sat back down at the table and pulled the books back towards me, also grabbing my pen and tattered notebook.
“The guests at the club mentioned hearing footsteps - so it has to be the boots, right? A disco ball wouldn't make that sound…” my voice trailed off when I realised that, even though Dean was looking at me, he wasn't listening to a word I was saying.
“Earth to Dean?”
He flinched slightly at his name, but felt no shame delving in with a completely off-topic question.
“So how long have you worn glasses?”
“I’ve always worn them,” I slid back into my chair at the table opposite him, not sure whether to laugh at the shocked expression on his face or whether to be concerned about his observation skills.
“What?! No way, I would’ve noticed,” He opened another beer and took a sip before tracing the opening to the bottle over his bottom lip.
“ I only wear them for concentration work, and I have emergency contact lenses if I know I’m going to be around a lot of people as I don’t particularly like how they look.”
Dean made a small disagreeable expression before averting his gaze from mine back to the laptop, taking another swig of his beer. I placed my coffee mug down and settled back into the book I was reading before, and after a few moments I could feel my skin begin to prickle - as though I could feel a pair of eyes on me. I glanced up, my breath immediately catching in my throat. Deans eyes found mine, burning with an intensity that made my heart hammer in my chest. I didn’t want to look away, but under his gaze I felt like I’d been stripped bare, unable to hide my insecurities from an eye that seemed to scorch through to my very core.
“Dean-”
“(Y/n), you should really have more confidence in yourself; I think the glasses look cute as fuck. You should wear them more,” a fierce blush erupted across my face when he spoke, his assured tone leaving no room for disagreement. I tried desperately not to let on that his words held any sort of impact over my decisions so I looked down, away from his scrutiny and simply said:
“Maybe I will.”
He hummed in approval, finally looking elsewhere and I couldn’t stop myself from breathing a sigh of relief when the pressure of his stare was averted.
The evening dragged on and an hour and a half had passed since his loaded comment. I was on the third book we’d checked out of the library, now trying desperately to find the curse that would cause a pair of 1970s glam rock boots to dance for eternity and haunt anyone who tried to wear them. This case was absurd, and I could feel myself growing restless with the small amount of progress we’d made. I huffed out a sigh and leant back in my chair, the faux leather and rusted metal creaking under my weight. Pulling the hair bobble from around my wrist I scooped my hair into a bundle on the top of my head, securing it in place; the sensation of air on my neck seemed to clear some of the fog from my brain. The messy bun was comfortably enough that I could forget it was there, and I allowed myself a stretch before leaning back over the table, grasping my pen. As I began to read the next segment, I absently traced the end of the pen over my bottom lip, running it back and forth a few times before gently nibbling on the end. I heard the shuffling of Dean moving in his seat and a ragged clearing of his throat before the sound of vigorous laptop keys clicking ensued. Without looking up at him I continued reading, the pen still tapping my bottom lip, and when I neared the bottom of the paragraph, I slowly licked the pad of my index finger. My eyes never leaving the words, I turned the page swiftly with my dampened digit, the transition from one page to the next perfectly seamless. Another shuffle from the man opposite followed by a quiet groan filled the silence between us. Pen still between my teeth, I lifted only my eyes to glance at him and noted the dusting of pink across his cheeks and the furrow in his brow. Concluding that he’d had one too many beers I decided to ignore his persistent fidgeting, returning to my previous task on monotonous reading. Several sentences in and I’d almost forgotten Deans restlessness - that was until I pulled my bottom lip between my teeth, deep in thought, that I earned myself a throaty groan and an exasperated sigh. I looked up just in time to watch him wipe a large hand down his face, momentarily masking his pained expression.
“Can you not do that? I can’t concentrate when you do that.”
“Do what?” Upon asking my question I absently took the pen between my teeth again, quickly glancing down at the book to place a mental bookmark.
“That.”
“What?”
“That. That thing you do with our mouth, and the pen, and your tongue and your finger. Can you please stop before it kills me.”
The heat beneath my skin was immediate at his admission, knowing my small, absent-minded actions were playing on his mind and making it hard for him to think straight. I instinctively crossed my legs, a fluttering in my lower belly instantly dragging my mind back to the deprived things I’d imagined Dean doing to me in the depths of night. The places I’d imagined his hands travelling, the areas his lips would touch and the sensations his tongue could create. These were deeply, deeply personal fantasies, and right now as Dean looked at me with a restrained hunger, I felt like I was wearing these fantasies for the world to see. For Dean to see.
“It doesn’t help that you’ve been sat over there like a sexy fucking librarian all evening, but every time you do that anything with that mouth - shit, sweetheart you’re driving me insane.” His voice was gravelly as he looked at me with desperate eyes across the table. The overly rational part of my brain had shut down completely, and now the part of my mind that had spent hours conjuring vivid scenes of Dean Winchester ravishing me in my entirety had taken the charge. I stood slowly, taking a moment to reason with myself - unsuccessfully of course - before sinking to my knees in front of my chair. I could see Deans strong thighs were spread wide beneath the table so I crawled forwards, across the cold tiles and placed myself between his legs. Resting my palms softly on his thighs I made him flinch at the unexpected contact. He immediately scooted his chair back, allowing a gap for me to poke my head through - his hand instantly acting as a barrier between the edge of the table and my skull. I got comfortable and allowed myself a moment to gaze up at him, to take in the strained furrow in his brow and the parting of his lips. I observed the way his chest rose and fell in apprehensive breaths, and the way his free hand clenched into a fist on his thigh - like he was so desperate yet so scared to touch me.
“(Y/n)-”
“Dean,” I spoke softly, slowly running my hands up his thighs - delicate palms against rough denim, “you’re a smart boy - you know I wouldn’t do something I didn’t want to do. So please, don’t say I don’t have to do this.”
Dean released a shaky breath the moment my fingers unclasped his jeans. I tugged them down slightly with his help, just enough so I could dip my hand into his boxers and wrap my fingers around his half-hard length. The moment my skin touched his, his head lolled back and his eyes fluttered closed with a breathy moan on his lips.
“Fuck…”
I gently pulled him from his confines, coming face to face with the cock I’d literally dreamt of again and again. I took the scene in, committing to memory the sharp outline of his jaw and the way his long lashes rested on his lightly-freckled cheeks. The way that, every time he breathed in, I could see his defined muscle tone through the thin fabric of his shirt; and with every small caress that my fingers made against his length, it made his fingers twitch and teeth clench. I licked my lips before leaning in and took his tip into my mouth, not giving him a chance to finish sucking in air through his teeth before I plunged his entire length down my throat.
“Oh FUCK.”
His hands flew to my hair, fingers gripping tight as they loosened strands from the messy bun, causing them to fall around my face. He’d lifted his head to look down at me, pupils blown as he pulled his bottom lip between his teeth. He looked nothing more than enthralled. Infatuated. Entranced. I moved my head up and down, up and down, again and again to a steady rhythm, pressing my tongue to the underside of his now rock-hard cock to trace every vein and nerve-ending.
“Shit, (Y/n), I didn’t know you could suck cock, like, at all… how’re you s’fuckin’ good…” his voice was breathless as he continued to grip my hair, his head flopping to the side as pleasure started to overcome his senses. I released him with a small ‘pop’, wrapping my fingers around him and smearing the warm mixture of saliva and precum from tip to base.
“Despite everything I told you earlier, Dean, I’m not a virgin - and this certainly isn’t my first rodeo,” my voice came out more sultry than I’d expected and I could feel Dean tremble beneath my palms.
“Fuck, I wish I’d known that sooner,” I chewed on my bottom lip, quickly becoming addicted to the way he writhed at my touch. The way he moaned and gripped my hair tighter when I sucked him back into my mouth was like pure ecstasy, my insides heating up and throbbing with an ache of familiar arousal. Like a thirst that could only be satisfied by him. By tasting him, feeling him on my tongue and drinking in every sound that passed his plush parted lips. The sensation of my glasses slipping down my nose as I sped up my ministrations had me reaching to push them back up, but not before Dean beat me to it. With the rough pad of his thumb he pushed on the plastic bridge, his palm and fingers pressed to my flushed cheek in the most tender, almost heart wrenching caress. I thought my heart might stop when he tilted my face up to his; lustful eyes burning into mine with a vehemence I’d never encountered. I stopped in my tracks, all actions ceased as the spell he’d somehow put me under wouldn’t let me look away.
“If you keep going like that darlin’ this whole thing is gonna be over before you know it,” his voice was raspy, a rawness to it from the harsh breaths and ragged moans that had been pulled from his throat. He slowly pulled his cock from my spit-slick lips and grasped it loosely, giving himself a few lazy pumps whilst his other hand never left my face. He stared down at me, taking a few moments as though he was committing the sight of me, knelt between his knees with flushed cheeks and swollen lips to memory. Once it seemed that memory was locked away in the depths of his mind, he grasped me by the arm and pulled me effortlessly into his lap, his fingers almost bruising against my skin. Immediately I felt him, in his entirety, press against me with the heat and wetness seeping through my jeans and past my panties. This time when our eyes met, there was a mutual desperation; a need to consume each other and to feel every inch of his heated skin against mine. He pulled me frantically down to him and crashed his lips against mine.
Some people describe their first kiss with someone like butterflies in their stomach, or fireworks exploding all around them. That wasn’t at all what this was like. Kissing Dean Winchester was different - it was wild and untamed - and describing this experience in such a mundane way would be like adding water to a top-shelf whiskey. Kissing Dean Winchester was like driving the impala at one thirty with the roar of the engine drowning out the rest of the world. It was like trying to ride a wild mustang without a saddle, or daring to stand on the highest peak on Earth with nothing to tie you down. It was exhilarating in the most dangerous way imaginable - and I was now officially a thrill seeker.
The warm taste of the beer on his tongue and the masculine scent of old leather and cologne was pulling me under. Breathing no longer mattered as long as his mouth was on mine and his fingers were in my hair, now tugging the bobble out and throwing it to the floor. As my hair tumbled free he grabbed under my thighs and stood effortlessly, moving me from his lap to the edge of the table without his lips leaving mine. I winced slightly as the corners and several books and the laptop jabbed into my rear and I fumbled to move everything aside, failing when I refused to unlock our lips. Deans patience was non-existent and with one sweep of his strong arm everything tumbled to the floor - including the laptop. I threw the remaining books from underneath me down to join them, no longer caring for their wellbeing. Before I could pull Dean back in - to allow him to do whatever the fuck he wanted to do to me - he hastily pulled off my boots and tugged down my jeans, throwing every item to the growing pile of chaos beside us. I discarded my sweater and top, but before I let his fingers touch my bra I wanted nothing more than to return the favour.
“I guess you can forget about that whole ‘never seeing me shirtless’ thing, huh?” he smirked through the sexual fog, not waiting for a reply as his lips hungrily found mine again, his own top falling to the floor.
“Shut up Winchester. Now are you gonna fuck me or wh- OH FUCK-”
Two thick fingers crept under my panties and plunged into me with zero hesitation, curling up and stroking the sensual cushion deep within my core with skillful precision.
“Oh yeah? You want me to fuck you?” Even with my face now buried in the crook of his neck, I could hear the smirk in his voice, the tormenting tone going straight to my brain.
“Y-yes- fuck- please,” my knees twitched either side of him, squeezing at his hips with every push of his fingers. I gripped his shoulders tight, nails indenting his skin as I leant back to look at him better. Seeing the beads of sweat on his chest and brow alongside the raw, carnal desire in his eyes could have undone me there and then. He frowned in disapproval when I moved to remove my glasses, the fingers that were just inside me now wrapped forcefully around my wrist.
“What d’ya think you’re doing?” straight away I knew his growling question left no room for negotiation.
“I was just-”
“The glasses stay on.”
“To the end?”
“‘Til I say you can take them off.”
I did as I was told, moving my hand to grip the soft strands on the back of his neck, softly dragging my nails over his scalp and drawing a shiver from his spine and a groan from his lungs. He pulled me against him, crushing his lips against mine one more time. He swiftly pulled away and I leant back on my hands, both of us taking a moment to drink each other in - to bask in lascivious glory. I pulled my bottom lip between my teeth and looked up at him through my lashes, the lenses of my glasses starting to fog around the edges. Another deep moan rumbled from his chest as his heated gaze stayed locked to mine.
“I can’t wait any longer now that you’ve looked at me like that. Fuck.”
With a large hand gripping the soft flesh of my thigh he pulled my underwear to one side and lined himself up, slowly sinking in. Blissful moans harmonised between us, the rawness of him stretching me was unlike anything I’d ever experienced and my quivering thighs wrapped around him, pushing him to the hilt. He secured his large hands on the soft flesh of my hips and held me in place as he slowly withdrew. I could feel him; feel every ridge and vein drag out and then in, out and in, over my most sensitive, intimate, area. The slick sounds of our intimacy  began to echo around the room as he picked up speed, strong thighs working at a feverish pace. With every thrust he pushed against that one spot that made my legs jerk and eyes water, my arms almost giving out underneath me as the table rattled beneath my weight. With the ferocity of his pounding and the heightened sensitivity he’d curated between my legs only moments before, we both knew that neither of us would last long. The sounds of his ragged breaths and throaty moans alone had me clenching around him already, and I know my constricting muscles already had his hips stuttering as I sucked him in with every thrust.
“Fuck (Y/n)- You’re so fuckin’ tight-”
I chewed on my bottom lip as his desperate eyes met mine.
“Oh yeah? Well I feel like you’re cock is in my fucking ribcage- oh fuck-”
He slipped one hand between us, his large palm resting on my lower belly as his thumb drew fast circles around my clit. The immediate contact on my bundle of nerves had my whole body quivering, the knot of an impending climax already starting to twist tighter and tighter in the depths of my core. The way that Dean fucked me into the motel room table was something that I would be able to feel deep in my soul for the rest of my life - my body and entire nervous system having never been worked in such a feral way before. Dean dropped forward and crushed my body into his - one large strong arm wrapped around my trembling body and kept me pressed against him as his head dropped to the crook of my neck. Soft lips pressed hot kisses against my shoulder, teeth gently nibbling the soft flesh as the coil wound and wound, the wave of orgasmic bliss rising higher and higher as my mind emptied, leaving behind only one thought.
Dean.
He was all consuming - all I could see, taste and smell. All I could feel. Oh God could I feel him; driving me to the brink of pure bliss as he frantically sped up - desperate to seek his own undoing as well as my own. One… two… three more fervid thrusts and the peak he’d helped me ascend to shattered around me as I practically screamed his name, the white-hot euphoria scorching my insides as I clamped like a vice around him.
“Oh shit- (Y/n) I can’t- fuck-”
I grabbed the back of his head and pushed his mouth to mine as he came undone, spilling inside me as he worked through his own white-hot euphoria.
The kiss we shared evolved from hot and needy to soft and wanting - the sensation of hot cum running down the inside of my thigh and cooling against my skin being the only thing to pull me away. Dean continued to lean over me for a moment, looking down at me with an expression that told me he had so much he wanted to say. Instead, he looked down at his release now starting to pool on the floor beneath us, then to the books and laptop that had been thrown across the floor before turning back to face me with the most devilish grin on his face.
“You know that this mess is all your fault, right?”
I scoffed.
“My fault? How is it my fault?”
“Because, sweetheart…” he tucked a strand of hair behind my ear and pushed lightly on the plastic bridge sitting on my nose.
“You put on on those fucking glasses.”

Ace Trappola
Tumblr media
The library was unusually quiet for a Thursday afternoon, the hum of distant conversation muffled by the towering shelves of books and the occasional creak of an old wooden chair. You sat in the farthest corner, your favorite spot, hunched over your notebook but not really writing. Not really thinking, either.
You were doodling again—him, of course. The slightly messy hair that was always a shade redder in the sunlight, the crooked smirk that came out right before he teased someone (or charmed them), and those stupid little hearts he sometimes made with his hands just to be annoying. Ace Trappola.
You sighed and dropped your pencil, watching it roll off the desk. “Ugh, why is he so cute,” you mumbled under your breath, face down in your arms.
It wasn’t like he knew you existed in any special way. Sure, you were classmates, sometimes group partners, sometimes sparring partners in flight class. He joked with you a lot, yeah. But he joked with everyone. He winked at everyone. He didn’t look at you the way you looked at him—soft, lingering, completely lovesick.
You were convinced Ace belonged in a whole different universe than you. He was bold, charming, magnetic. And you? You were… fine. Okay. Passable. Not his type, whatever that was. So you kept it inside. You giggled with your friends about how cute he looked in his uniform, you wrote little daydreams in your journal and then crossed them out, and you tried to survive the actual conversations with him without letting the pink in your cheeks get too noticeable.
What you didn’t know—what you couldn’t have known—was that Ace had been hovering outside the aisle for the past five minutes.
He’d come to return a book, seen you, and almost walked away. But your muttering had stopped him cold.
He leaned a little closer, his heartbeat just a bit too loud in his ears. Did you just call him cute? No way. You were probably talking about some manga character.
But then you sighed again and muttered, “He’d never like someone like me. Not when he’s... him.”
And something in Ace's chest twisted.
He stepped out casually, pretending like he hadn’t just eavesdropped on your heartbreak. “Yo,” he said, tossing the book on the return cart. “Didn’t know you talked to yourself. Should I be worried?”
You jolted upright, face turning crimson the moment you saw him. “A-Ace?!”
He leaned on the edge of your desk, eyes scanning your doodles. “Wow, that guy looks exactly like me,” he teased. “You got a little crush or something?”
You tried to cover the page, but it was too late. Panic surged in your chest, your throat tightening as every possible excuse dried up on your tongue.
Ace tilted his head, smirk fading just slightly into something softer. “Hey,” he said, quieter now. “Was that about me back there? What you said?”
You froze. Busted.
He laughed—gently, not the loud, showy kind. “You think I’m out of your league? That’s rich. You literally do everything better than me except math, and I still think about how you beat me in Spell Target last month.”
You blinked, stunned.
Ace grinned wider, leaning just a bit closer. “So... maybe I’ve got a little crush too. Don’t go writing me off like that next time, yeah?”
Ruggie Bucchi
Tumblr media
It was late afternoon, and the Savannaclaw lounge was mostly empty—except for you, perched on the steps outside, and Ruggie, balancing a tray of snacks with a practiced hand. You’d offered to help, but he’d waved you off with a grin.
“Relax, I got this.”
You smiled politely, folding your arms tighter. Not that he’d notice the way your chest fluttered when he smiled like that. That sly, sleepy-eyed grin that made your stomach dip every time.
Ruggie was… everything you weren’t. Fast-talking, adaptable, clever, confident in a way you never could be. He made jokes even when Leona was glaring daggers. He knew how to turn scraps into something useful. And you? You were just you.
No way he’d be interested in someone who wasn’t cool, cunning, or at least a little dangerous. He needed someone who could keep up with his sharp tongue and trickster nature. Not someone like you who blushed too easily and got tongue-tied every time he looked your way.
You fiddled with a loose thread on your sleeve, sighing. “He’s way out of my league,” you whispered to no one.
Unbeknownst to you, Ruggie was returning from the lounge, just in time to hear that.
He paused in his step, the grin faltering as the words sank in.
Out of your league? Him?
He tilted his head, watching you. You looked… soft. Tired. Not just from today, but maybe from carrying that weight in your chest. The kind he knew too well. Ruggie bit the inside of his cheek and walked over quietly, plopping down beside you without a word.
You looked up, startled. “Oh! You’re back.”
“Yeah.” He offered you one of the sweet pastries he’d snagged from the kitchen. “You looked like you needed somethin’ sweet.”
You took it, hesitating. “Thanks…”
The silence lingered a moment too long. Then Ruggie said casually, “You know, I heard what you said.”
You froze.
Ruggie turned his head to look at you, his smile smaller now, more sincere. “You think I’m outta your league?” He snorted. “That’s a laugh. You’re the only one around here who’s nice to me without expecting somethin’ in return.”
You stared, lips parting, but no words came out.
“I notice things, y’know,” he continued, voice lower now. “How you bring extra snacks just in case someone forgets lunch. How you patch people up after training. How you always wave to Grim like he’s the main character or somethin’.”
You smiled weakly. “He thinks he is.”
Ruggie chuckled. “You’ve got no idea how easy it is to like you, do ya?”
The air went still.
He leaned a bit closer, a mischievous spark lighting back up in his eyes. “So, what d’you say we make this official? You stop pretendin’ I don’t like you, and I stop stealin’ snacks to get your attention. Deal?”
You couldn’t speak. You just nodded—furiously.
And Ruggie, with a smug little grin, nudged your shoulder and whispered, “Knew you liked me, too.”
Azul Ashengrotto
Tumblr media
The lounge was closed for the night, lights dimmed, the usual chatter of customers replaced by the quiet shuffle of papers and the gentle clink of glass as Azul organized the bar. You sat alone at one of the side tables—he’d offered to let you hang out while he finished work, a kind gesture wrapped in professionalism. You didn’t question it. You were just happy to be near him.
Azul was perfect. Not in an untouchable way, but in the dangerously magnetic way. His intelligence, his poise, the calculating way his eyes always seemed to know more than he let on. He could make a deal with a king and still get the better end of it. He ran a whole business while juggling classes and contracts and never once looked like he was struggling.
Meanwhile, you were just… you. No cunning. No genius intellect. Just someone who barely passed alchemy and still got nervous speaking in front of people. Azul was miles above your league.
So, you admired him from afar. You listened carefully when he spoke in class, hung onto his every word when he got passionate about potion theory, and then pretended not to ache when he’d smile politely and move on without knowing how he affected you.
Tonight was no different.
You watched him from behind your drink, your heart fluttering as he adjusted his glasses, sleeves rolled to his elbows. You sighed under your breath, “He’s so beautiful. And way out of my league. Oh well. Back to daydreaming…”
Azul looked up.
He hadn’t meant to eavesdrop, but his mer ears were… sensitive. The words hit him harder than expected. You thought he was out of your league?
He swallowed hard, turning away quickly to hide the sudden redness in his cheeks. Was that a joke? Were you playing him? No, no—your voice had been too soft. Too sad.
He closed the ledger and made his way over to your table, rehearsing something casual to say. But he couldn’t do it. The usual charm slipped. He sat down across from you instead, unusually quiet.
“Everything alright?” you asked.
“Yes,” he said too quickly. Then, after a breath: “I overheard something just now.”
Your heart dropped.
“I didn’t mean to. But you said…” He paused, searching your face for any trace of irony. “You think I’m out of your league?”
You froze. Busted again. Why did the universe keep doing this to you?
Azul looked… uncertain. Vulnerable. His fingers tapped the edge of the table in a rare moment of nervous fidgeting. “You have no idea how intimidating you are to me.”
You blinked. “Me?!”
“Yes. You’re so—genuine. You smile without scheming. You care without a contract. That’s not something I’m used to.” His voice dropped, soft and serious. “And I’ve liked you for a while. But I didn’t think someone as… sincere as you could ever return that kind of feeling.”
Your chest clenched. “Azul, I… I do. I have. For a long time.”
He gave a breathless little laugh. “Then perhaps… a real date? No contracts, no business. Just us?”
You nodded, overwhelmed but glowing. And for once, Azul Ashengrotto looked flustered. Adorably so.
Jamil Viper
Tumblr media
The sun was setting over Scarabia, painting the desert sky in shades of gold and crimson. You sat at the balcony edge of the dorm’s main building, legs dangling, fingers absentmindedly picking at your sleeve as you watched the horizon burn.
Jamil was training below—moving with that smooth, graceful precision of someone who knew exactly what he was doing and exactly how much attention he was getting. But Jamil never asked for attention. He earned it quietly, consistently, and refused to let it change him.
You had it bad. So bad it was kind of pathetic.
He was calm, composed, mysterious in the way that made your heart race just a little. But also kind, thoughtful, and far too selfless for someone with his level of talent. You loved the way he took care of others, even when they didn’t realize he was doing it. You loved the way his eyes lit up when no one was watching and he actually let himself enjoy something.
And of course, you’d convinced yourself he’d never return the feeling.
You were ordinary. Not someone with elegance carved into every step. Not someone with a voice that could silence a room. You were nice, and dependable, but not the kind of person who got someone like Jamil Viper.
You sighed and murmured to yourself, “He’s so cool and so out of my league… but I love him anyway. Guess I’ll just keep dreaming.”
Unfortunately, your voice carried.
Jamil paused mid-step, hearing your words. The rhythm of his movements faltered for just a second. He glanced up, spotted you on the balcony, and blinked.
Your eyes met. Panic.
He jogged up the steps—not fast, but direct. Intentional.
You stood, heart racing. “J-Jamil, I didn’t know you—”
“I heard you,” he said, his voice even, but there was a flicker of emotion in his eyes you hadn’t seen before. “What you said.”
You turned crimson. “That was—I didn’t mean—well, I did, but not for you to—”
He held up a hand gently. “Can I be honest with you?”
You nodded, too stunned to speak.
“I’ve spent a long time trying not to like anyone,” he said slowly. “Because it’s easier. Because I don’t get to have things I want. People expect me to stay in the background, to be useful—not to be seen.”
Your breath hitched.
“But then you came along. You’re kind. You notice things most people overlook. You see me.” He looked away for a second, a rare flicker of vulnerability. “And I didn’t think I was allowed to want someone like you.”
You were stunned. “Jamil… I see you because I care. I’ve always cared.”
He looked at you again, softer now. “Then maybe we’ve both been idiots.”
You laughed shakily. “Definitely.”
Jamil stepped closer, a real smile pulling at his lips. “Then let’s stop pretending. I like you. And I’m not letting you drift away into daydreams anymore.”
Your heart soared. Maybe… just maybe… you were enough for him all along.
Idia Shroud
Tumblr media
The glow of the computer screen lit your face as you sat cross-legged on the floor of Ignihyde's rec room—aka Idia's fortress. You’d been invited to a co-op gaming session, not unusual since you’d proven yourself in battle simulators, strategy MMOs, and the occasional horror VR run.
But what was unusual… was that Idia had invited you.
You kept telling yourself it wasn’t a big deal. He was probably just being friendly. Maybe he appreciated that you didn’t make fun of his Otaku shrine or that time he totally short-circuited a project trying to install AI voice lines of a waifu into Ortho.
Still, every time he laughed softly at one of your dumb jokes, or his fingers brushed yours when you handed him a controller—you felt that dizzy, heart-thumping feeling in your chest. And you reminded yourself, for the millionth time:
“He’s brilliant. Cool in a mysterious, tech-wizard way. That anime hair glows. He’s basically a boss-level character. And me? I’m just a side quest.”
So you kept your feelings locked behind your own firewall and resigned yourself to the background.
Tonight was no different. After you won a particularly chaotic match, Idia leaned back in his chair, hoodie half-draped over his head, giving you one of those rare, sheepish smiles. “Y-you’re really good at this… I mean, I knew you were decent, but like… whoa. T-totally NPC-crushing it.”
You smiled, heart fluttering. “Guess I just like playing with you…”
He froze. Not visibly, not obviously—but if you’d been watching closely (and you always were), you’d notice the way his avatar just… idled.
You were about to awkwardly fill the silence when you heard it—his voice, quiet, uncertain. “You know, I always thought you were… like… out of my league.”
Your brain lagged.
“Wait—what?”
Idia pulled the hood further over his head, hair flickering in shades of anxious pink. “I mean, you’re normal. Like, good at talking to people, and helping Ortho with projects, and you actually listen when I go off on anime world-building lore instead of hitting skip like everyone else.”
Your jaw dropped a little. “But I thought I was just the sidekick here! I mean—you’re… you. I figured there was no way someone like you could like someone like me.”
He glanced up, eyes wide and glowing faintly. “No. You’re not ‘someone like’ anything. You’re just… you. And you’re kind of my favorite player two.”
Silence stretched.
And then he blurted, fast and fumbling, “So—uh, do you wanna maybe do a… real date co-op thing? Like a—non-digital questline?”
You beamed. “I’d love to.”
And somewhere in the corner, Ortho’s little scanner lit up green. “Successful confession: confirmed.”
Lilia Vanrouge
Tumblr media
The Diasomnia garden was especially quiet in the evening, the moonlight bathing the stone paths in silver as soft wind rustled the leaves. You often came here after a long day—it was peaceful, and you could just… think.
And of course, he was often there.
Lilia.
Sometimes humming an old lullaby. Sometimes practicing aerial flips. Sometimes just tending to the strange, glowing plants with that serene little smile. He was enigmatic, ageless, playful in a way that made your heart ache. He flirted with everyone, joked like he’d seen centuries of stories unfold—and maybe he had.
You were utterly, hopelessly, in love with him.
But you’d buried it. Because how could someone like Lilia Vanrouge—mysterious, powerful, ancient, and radiant—ever love someone like you?
“He’s basically immortal. I’m mortal, awkward, and sometimes trip over nothing. He’s been alive since kingdoms rose and fell. I’m just trying to pass my midterms without dying of stress. He probably sees me like a cute stray cat or something.”
So instead of confessing, you smiled, nodded when he teased you, and let the daydreams pile up where he couldn’t see.
Tonight, you didn’t notice him approach until he sat beside you, quiet and uncharacteristically gentle.
“Lost in thought, little one?”
You startled slightly, then laughed. “Yeah. Just… life stuff.”
“Hmm,” he hummed, gaze flicking over your face like he was reading something written across your skin. “You've been sighing a lot lately.”
You tried to deflect. “Guess I’ve just been thinking about someone.”
His eyes twinkled. “Ah… a crush, perhaps?”
You flushed. “Maybe.”
Lilia tilted his head, fangs barely visible behind his grin. “And what is this mysterious someone like?”
You bit your lip. “He’s… incredible. Playful but wise. Mysterious. Totally out of my league.”
That grin faded—just slightly. “Out of your league?”
You nodded, sighing. “Yeah. He’s someone who probably sees a million people every day and never notices someone like me. Which is fine. I’m just… daydreaming. That’s all.”
Lilia was silent for a beat. And then he did something you hadn’t expected.
He took your hand.
“You know,” he said quietly, “for someone who’s lived as long as I have… very few people surprise me anymore. But you? You always do. With your honesty, your kindness… and the way you look at me when you think I don’t notice.”
You froze.
“I do notice,” he added, voice lowering, soft as dusk. “And I would be a fool not to return the favor.”
You stared, eyes wide. “Wait… you—?”
“Yes.” He smiled, a touch bittersweet. “And I’ve been waiting for the right time to say it. But it seems we’ve both been sitting in our little corners of longing, haven’t we?”
You nodded, heart hammering.
He lifted your hand to his lips, pressing a featherlight kiss to your knuckles. “Well then… perhaps it’s time we step out of the daydream.”

Yandere Batfam x Neglected!Elle Woods!Reader (Part 2)
Tumblr media
- For the next few months, you studied hard. If you wanted to prove to Warner that you were worth taking back, you had to put that brain of yours to use
- You aced the bar exam and managed to get into Harvard Law. You came back smiling, holding out hope that your family at least cared enough to congratulate you
- But as you should've expected, you were met with indifference. It stung, no matter what you did, it would never be good enough to deserve even a glance
- It didn't matter anymore, you have an ex to get back together with
- When Warner first saw you at Harvard, he was shocked
- "You got into Harvard Law?"
- "What, like it's hard?"
- When you told him you were going to apply for one of your Professor's internships, he laughed you out the door
- You realised he'd never take you seriously until you genuinely showed knowledge on the subject, which motivated you to study even harder
- When you ace your internship and show how start you are at Law, Warner is certain to take you back
-.....Right?
Batfamily's POV
- Tim walked into your room, Alfred asked him to call you down for dinner, and was met with an empty room, the only thing left being the pink walls and that one unicorn plushie Dick bought last minute for your 12th birthday that you hated
- He blinked. Did you move out and didn't tell anyone?
- He immediately called you, head swirling with so many questions
- You picked up. "Uh, hey Tim. Is something going on-"
- "Where are you? Your room's empty." his voice had a familiar edge of annoyance that made you wince
- "Not wasting any time, huh? I'm at Harvard." Tim snorted like you said the world's worst joke
- "Very funny. Now tell me where you actually are, [Name]."
- You sighed, exasperated. "This isn't a joke, Tim. I managed to get into Harvard."
- Tim went silent. You were most likely lying, but he decided to humour you
- "Okay, let's say you are studying at Harvard. What are you studying?"
- "Law. I'm going to be an taking an internship soon." ....Okay, he had to admit that sounded legit. But he still wasn't convinced
- He hung up without warning and headed down to the Batcave
- Jason raised an eyebrow as Tim walked past. "Watcha up to, Timbo?"
- "Apparently, [Name] got into Harvard Law." Jason snickered. "Really?"
- "Yeah. Said they were studying law and everything." Jason rolled his eyes, clearly not believing it. "Yeah right. They must've said it for attention like they usually do."
- But Tim wasn't convinced. If you did actually get into Harvard, that was a big deal. Why didn't you tell anyone?
- He was going to get to the bottom of this, one way or another.
