Another snippet from this fic that @temple-mistress and I cannot stop thinking about!

When they break for air, Obi-Wan is breathless. One kiss isn’t enough, not nearly, and still he shakes his head, ready to apologize even while every part of him aches for more. 

Anakin doesn’t give him the chance to speak. Rough, familiar hands cup both of Obi-Wan’s flushed cheeks, and Anakin’s stormy blue eyes rove over his face in the dim glow of the passing tunnel luminance. 

“Don’t,” Anakin murmurs. “Don’t say you're sorry."

Obi-Wan searches Anakin’s face in turn. “Anakin,” he says, his voice impossibly rough. Desire thunders through their bond, a roaring, rushing current, and all at once Obi-Wan can’t fight it anymore. “Anakin.” He closes the distance with another kiss, this one firm, demanding, laced with the desperate need still throbbing in his veins.

How do you become a beta reader without sounding like you’re saying that you think their writing needs help? I want to be an editor some day, so I’ve been commenting on people’s works to build relationships/recognition. I’m worried that asking someone if they need an editor would sound like a criticism?

This is a fantastic question, and a concern I've absolutely shared. IMO (and this goes for both editing and being a beta-reader) I think it's about framing your request as building a connection, rather than merely editing their work. I'll preface this by saying that these are just suggestions from my personal experience... this is not exhaustive! Also, we're all unique flavours of humans, so not all fic writers might agree with what I've included below.

As much as it may surprise people, many writers (even the most popular ones) can often feel a bit of trepidation and self-consciousness about posting a work publicly. It's scary as fuck to share a labour of your love, especially not knowing if it will get the attention you want. Because, as much as we tell ourselves that we write fic for ourselves (which we do!), it also feels damn good to get those comments and kudos. So having someone to cheer you on and work collaboratively to help you put forward your best work is amazing (though I'm sure it's also not for everyone).

So... back to that connection! IMO... just ask (a dm is probably best, rather than a public comment though)! You could start by say that your a fan of their work and that, while you absolutely don't think they need a beta, you'd love the chance to collaborate with them, if it's something they've ever considered. The worst they can say is no!

If they agree, the most important part is then asking how they'd like you to show up for them. Do they just want spelling and grammar? Do they only want suggestions on plot and flow? Do they just want you to cheer them on as they write? Some unique combination of the above? This part is really about getting to know them as an author because, as a beta, your job isn't to edit their voice out of their work, but to provide suggestions (and I stress suggestions) for ways to make that voice shine.

All in all, the writer/beta relationship is a very special connection to make (I'm looking at you @tideswept, @mischievouschan4, @stardustnsunshine, @innominatta, @sopherfly, & @boguspreston 👀).

He opened his palm, allowing the small blue light to hover above it. It felt solid and real, though it was nothing more than a figment of the Force, a manifestation of something long dead. But he couldn’t resist the impulse to reach out and try to touch it, to capture its essence between his fingers. He could feel the sorrow and guilt radiating off of it, but he couldn't blame it. This was all Obi-Wan's doing - all his mistakes and failures, finally catching up with him. A wry smile tugged at his lips. "It appears we have a penchant for making our farewells in the most dramatic fashion, Master."

Feral Friday (since we missed WIP Wednesday) | Persistent and Unmanageable (snippet 4)

Soooo apparently @temple-mistress and I cannot be relied upon to remember what day it is! 🤣 To atone, here is a snippet on this, the most Feral day of the week.

Obi-Wan, still breathing hard, turns his head to rest his cheek against Anakin’s hair. Gods, he loves Anakin’s curls. He inhales slowly, savoring the bright citrus scent of Anakin’s shampoo as he tries to calm his racing heart.

“How are you feeling?” Anakin asks softly.

“Better,” Obi-Wan replies, his palms dragging slowly along Anakin’s back. “For the moment. But…” He can still feel the drug in his system; he can tell that the desire pulsing in his veins will linger. “I will want—need—more.” He takes a steadying breath. “I know it hasn’t affected you as it’s affected me. But… would you… help me again? Soon?”

Lifting his head, Anakin kisses Obi-Wan gently and nods. “Mmmhmm.”

1. Do you make your bed?

Not for years lol! My dogs will just mess it up right after, so I stopped seeing the point to do it. (ask me how I know and what stopped me from trying lol)

2. Favorite number?

I don't think I really have a set one? I usually pick whatever ages the kids are and say it's that. They find it annoying as they get older.

3. What’s your job?

Currently between ones.

4. If you could go back to school would you?

I honestly don't know if I would or not. Because on one hand, I think I would like too, being able to chose whatever I want to study with fear of debt and the like. But on the other hand...the stress of it makes me me glad I'm not back in school.

5. Can you parallel park?

Nope.

6. Do you think aliens are real?

I do. The universe is so large and infinite, that to think we were the ones in it seems small minded.

7. Can you drive a manual car?

Nope.

8. What’s your guilty pleasure?

Trashy movies and sweet treats. And by trashy, I mean things like Sharknado and such. Gimme those ridiculous movies baby.

9. Tattoos?

Several of them! With plans to one day get many, many more! And plans to get a couple altered, if not completely covered up.

10. Favorite color?

Blue, green and pink! Shades vary but those are my top three these days! 

11. Favorite type of music?

This sounds like a cop out answer but genuinely don't have a favorite type? I love all kinds and as my moods shift, so does what I'd rather listen too.

12. Do you like puzzles?

I enjoy them but not things I seek out.

13. Any phobia?

It wasn't a true phobia but I had one as a child due to a nightmare but I grew out of it in my late teens/early twenties.

14. Favorite childhood sport?

While I played soccer as a child, but I actually preferred baseball.  

15. Do you talk to your self?

All of the time. I'm quite literally doing it right now lmao my kids like to make funny of me for it but jokes on them because I've caught them doing it.

16. What movies do you adore?

So many, it's to many to name lol I'm a big movie buff, but here are a few faves that are more frequent in my rotation right now: Man on Fire, The Mummy, The Mummy Returns, Lord of the Rings Trilogy, Top Gun Maverick, Sleeping Beauty, Star Wars Prequels, The Equalizers, John Wick.  

17. Coffee or tea?

Coffee. All year round. All day, every day baby! But during the summer, I love me a good glass of sweet tea.

18. First thing you wanted to be growing up

Mortician. No one's sure where it came with but one day I told my parents it's what I wanted to be and there were like *nods* checks out lol

uhhh a couple of days ago, I was watching an emotional video hehe

Nope (unless you count my cat who is a silly baby boy)

I don't technically play any sports or have played but I do exercise with some older women :P And during highschool we usually played basketball and handball at gym class

5. Do you use sarcasm?

Oof, all the time

6. What's the first thing you notice about people?

Hmm, I'm not sure, I think their height?

7. What's your eye colour?

Brown! Dark but not as dark as to be described as black

8. Scary movies or happy endings?

Happy endings! I don't really like scary movies (scary books sure! but I don't really tolerate horror movies)

Drawing and painting dglksdgs I think I'm pretty good at writing too I'm also pretty talkative hahah

At risk of sounding redundant hahaha drawing and painting are a given. Writing too. I like reading but I used to read much more when I was younger. I also like making things in polymer clay :D
