Tant pis pour l'amour, ou comment j'ai survécu à un manipulateur. Tout est dans le titre, ou presque. En 300 pages, Sophie Lambda décrypte sa relation avec un pervers narcissique, vous savez ces personnes complétement vides à l'intérieur qui s'amusent à manipuler les autres juste pour jouer avec le petit pouvoir qu'elles ont réussi à acquérir... La BD ausculte les recoins les plus sombres de ce type de relations, mais avec humour notamment grâce à Chocolat, l'ours en peluche de l'autrice qui fait office de subconscient. Les différentes étapes de l'emprise sont explicitées et, surtout, il est bien précisé que pour s'en sortir, il n'y a qu'une solution : fuir et prendre conscience de ses propres failles pour se reconstruire. Le manipulateur, lui, ne changera pas. Il faudrait pour ce faire qu'il soit capable d'analyser son propre comportement et de comprendre le mal qu'il fait... mais étant dépourvu d'empathie, il ne risque pas d'y parvenir. Une lecture très dure par son thème, mais l'humour déjà évoqué comme le trait léger et coloré du dessin permettent de prendre la distance nécessaire. Je serais malheureusement relié au mien pour un moment 😔 Mais je garderai en t��te les conseils de l'auteur à la fin de son livre. 17. What would make them break up? Would it be permanent?

I think they’d break up if a) the safety of the world was at stake or b) they somehow mutually convince themselves that the other would be happier off without them (ie bad communication obviously; but these two are terrible at communication to begin with) or c) someone actually falls in love with somebody else (since immortals and stuff so y’know) and falls out of love with the other. 

That said, I’m fairly certain it wouldn’t be permanent in cases a or b (or more like I couldn’t deal with it if it was permanent like how dare you they’ve already suffered enough). Like in case a, they’d probably end up saving the world somehow and getting back together, and in b, someone would probably smack sense into them and get them to actually learn proper communication skills. 

But ooh boy C would be a doozy. On one hand, barring that the other party is Solumnus/Psi/another humanoid/Fodra, chances are said Other Party would probably die so they could potentially get back together, right? BUT since you asked for angst, I’ll pull out all the melodramatic stops I can muster. Imagine this: knowing that the person that died gave their loved one something that they couldn’t give; knowing that no matter how much they loved the other person, they no longer feel the same way because they found something better; that they’ve moved on and lived another life. Imagine feeling so hurt by the thought, especially since your love for the other was what gave you something to cling on to when everyone else you knew died. Imagine spending all of eternity avoiding each other, unwilling to face the knowledge that you once loved someone so greatly but they couldn’t love you back. Knowing that they still care about you, that they still want to watch out for you- but you can’t bring yourself to pretend that everything will ever be okay again 8D 

37. How much would they be willing to sacrifice for the other? Any lines they refuse to cross?

I think they’d be willing to sacrifice a lot, on a personal level. Their lives, their sanity, their souls... even on a normal level, Sophie’s the type that would sacrifice everything for the people she loves. And Lambda, once he starts realizing how much pain he’s caused, would claim his life isn’t worth as much as Sophie’s. 

I don’t think there’s any lines Lambda would be willing to cross, either. To him, being alive is something important and precious- and he’d do anything to keep Sophie safe and alive. He isn’t as morally bound as Sophie is- to him, there’s a hierarchy of people he cares about, and if he had to choose, he’d choose her life over everyone else. He’d probably gladly sacrifice the whole world and everyone in it if it means that she’s safe. Even if it means she hates him for the rest of her existence. 

That’s a line Sophie wouldn’t cross. She loves more universally, cannot understand how Lambda can be so selfish. She wouldn’t sacrifice the future of Ephinea or its people for his life, no matter how horribly she’ll blame herself for the act. The worst part being that she knows if he actually died, and she didn’t do a thing- she knows a part of her will always live with a keening regret, a desire to save him but knowing she couldn’t. And when she looks at everyone she’s saved, she can only think of him.

LA CULTURE DU MOINS PIRE. C’est un phénomène relativement courant de dissonance cognitive qui consiste à trouver des circonstances atténuantes pour faire taire la critique ou tolérer une situation qui ne l’est pas (tolérable). Récemment @doratmoutot donnait un exemple assez fréquent en story : « Même si le mec fait ‘ça’ d’efforts on a l’impression que c’est un prince - en fait juste se comporter comme un humain décent […] il est horrible avec moi, mais ce mec là me trompera jamais […] je sors avec le mec que j’estime le moins pire ». Je pense que cet exemple est assez parlant, on connaît tous quelqu’un qui tient ce discours ou on l’a tenu nous même. Il est utilisé partout, tout le temps. Dernièrement je l’ai entendu pour atténuer la grosse bourde d’un politique, en le félicitant d’avoir au moins eu l’initiative de tenter quelque chose, alors que WTF, c’est juste son job en fait… Non seulement c’est une façon de déculpabiliser et déresponsabiliser les gens, mais en plus c’est une manière de ne pas se respecter soi même. On a l’exemple plus répandu encore, du travail qu’on deteste avec un patron qu’on vomit, mais qu’on garde parce que c’est moins pire que de ne pas en avoir... Accepter le moins pire, sous couvert d’empathie, c’est se satisfaire d’une situation inconfortable, voire malsaine. C’est à cause de cette culture du moins pire qu’on reste en lien avec des personne toxique, et @sophielambda l’illustre extrêmement bien dans sa BD : Tant pis pour l’amour, comment j’ai survécu à un manipulateur. Sans aller dans les extrêmes, cette culture ‘du moins pire’ reste quelque chose qu’il faut combattre plutôt qu’encourager. Cette culture du moins pire nous entraîne vers l’immobilisme, elle bloque notre revolution intérieure, nous empêche d’évoluer... Soyons exigeants avec les autres comme nous le sommes avec nous, il n’y a rien de mal à ça.
