More details after the poll but let's see which vague event plot idea people are most interested in
EXTRA DETAILS
Cowboy Theme: that one camping, bring what you have on hand, event I'd been planning two years ago. Your character, be they a cowboy or not, would be attending an in-character event hosted by Sparrow Quickdraw. The only specification is that you bring what you normally carry around on an honor system. Sparrow's not gonna ask but he will find it weird if you claim to carry around a whole portable kitchen. I had originally planned to spin a few wheels or roll some dice for OH NO events happening like a sandstorm or animal attacks or smth.
Nightmare Court Theme 1: Courtiers are gathered for a fancy-shmancy gala. Set before HoT, the Duke of Torment was chosen by Faolain to host. Mingle with your fellow Courtiers, maybe try to form alliances between courts.
Nightmare Court Theme 2: A tournament to attempt to become the Grand Duke/Duchess. Set after HoT, some courtiers are battling for the rank. Others are just enjoying the show. Either way, probably going to contain RP PvP which will likely include wheels or dice.
Spooky Theme: Get your ghosts and ghouls and vampires and your etceteras, we've got some spooky hanging out to do. Talk about how you bit the dust or how you've been surviving as a vampire for however long you've been around. Monster hunters NOT invited.
Specifics about the events will be altered if they're hosted on EU; the cowboy event is specifically for NA since Sparrow only exists on NA and I do not have a cowboy on EU. Sad cowboy noises.

Valodor (he/him) and Orpheus (he/him) Rank: Legendary
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Orpheus discovered Valodor hiding out in Sparkfly Fen on a routine scouting mission for the Astral Ward. Hiding for generations, weak and afraid, Valodor took some time to warm up to Orpheus. In time, the two would become close.
Tumblr media
Valodor was always considered soft by his fellow Mursaat. And so, while he was unsurprised that the majority of his peers did not share his outright terror of the eminent conflict with the Seers, or the foretold conquest by the beasts that would come to be known as threat Titans, he was afraid and alone for long enough to take matters into his own hands.
Replicating the very ritual his people had so long ago rejected, Valodor concentrated his magic into a refined stone, intending to hide it away from his person so that he couldn't be so easily tracked down should his fellow Mursaat come seeking him out. However the ritual was complicated, and he was still alone. The stone splintered and shattered as he was crafting it, resulting in a sizable blast that brought down the foundations of the ruins he had made his hideout. While mostly unharmed from the explosion itself, the result of the ritual left something like an open magical wound in Valodor.
The magic effectively dispersed into the surrounding area, and over time he was largely forgotten about. For years, he lay resting in a makeshift tomb, becoming more and more a part of the dust and decay that surrounded him. Orpheus found him by accident, wiping the dust off of his mask to reveal a semblance of the golden sheen beneath.
"So beautiful..."
Tumblr media
For years, Orpheus would make up reasons to continue evaluating the situation in Sparkfly Fen. A large amount of variant magical activity concentrated in the area coupled with Isgarren's increasingly reclusive nature made it so his requests for deployment were rarely denied.
He knew it was wrong to keep something like this a secret, but knew just as well that it was more wrong to risk putting something so beautiful in harm's way. What if they couldn't see him the way that Orpheus did?
Tumblr media
Valodor was pleased to receive all manner of toys and trinkets from Orpheus when he would come to visit. And as he would hear more about the world of Tyria, and the people that Orpheus so desperately sought to protect, Valodor was more confident that he could one day be a part of that world, too.

My GW2 Toons
Tumblr media
These are my GW2 characters. From Left to right they are, Old Man Blep the Asura Engineer. Marrow Antoinette the Charr Guardian. Catalytic Curfuffle the Asura Elementalist. Sansa Eirsdottir the Norn Ranger. Chlora Phylia the Sylvari Mesmer. Mouse The Pleasant the Human Mesmer. Grenth Boy the Human Necromancer. And Kiotvi Wildblood the Norn Thief.
Details beneath the cut.
Tumblr media
These two ladies are The Commanders. They are Badasses. They are dating. They are in for a long ride. I am a new player, who has only just leveled them to 80.
Chlora Phylia the Sylvari Mesmer, was my first creation. She's still zero year's old. She has a passion for cartography, cooking, shapeshifting alchemy and Hylek. She lives in Sparkfly Fen and is a member of the priory. Trahearne asked her to be the Commander of the Pact and she was too touched by sentiment to say no, even though she is a terrible leader with social anxiety. Once indoctrinated by the nightmare court, she escaped their influence and stole a verdant puppy. But their corruption lingers in her heart.
Sansa "Stormwalker" Eirsdottir the Norn Ranger is the founder of the Pact. She's eight and a half feet tall and hyper competent. The daughter of Eir Stegalkin, she was raised by her Father. She worked as a messenger runner in her youth, and thunderstorms never delayed her, earning her title of Stormwalker. She killed Zhaitan, and works as the Commanders Right Hand. Chlora is endlessly grateful for her support.
Tumblr media
These two are The Twins. Catalytic Curfuffle the Asura Elementalist, is a young Asura with learning disabilities. ADD and Dyscalculia to name a few. She tried very hard to be a good Asura and learn advanced mathematics and Robotics in school but from a young age she showed no talent, no genius. She would throw explosive temper tantrums. She became an elementalist and joined the Vigil, and fights her battles with raw firepower, literally.
Her adoptive sister, Marrow Antoinette the Charr Guardian, was found as a Kitten and adopted by an Asura couple with a newborn as a questionably ethical experimental test subject into the question of Nature versus Nurture. She is everything her sister isn't: quiet, clever, polite, and proud. She can build any Golem you need and program it twice as fast. She powders and pomades her hair very tall as a symbol of her refinement. Her parents couldn't be prouder of her, as a daughter or a test subject. It's a shame all their theories about nurture prevailing are disproved by their other daughter...
Tumblr media
These two are Team Rocket. (to me.)
Grenth Boy's legal name is REDACTED, sloppily, by him. A young man, who disowned himself from his noble father upon reaching his majority. Big Fan of Wolfgang Lacrymohs. A necromancer who has devoted his life to Grenth. He’s optimistic and naive. He is a grief counselor and loves nothing more than to give the last rights, and reassure people that they will be welcomed by Grenth. This is not always reassuring.
Mouse The Pleasant was a human Foundling, her family history is completely lost. An orphan and whispers lightbringer, an accomplished mesmer and con-artist, has successfully infiltrated the aristocracy of Divinity’s Reach. An absolute sweetheart who no one would suspect of being a conniving witch.
Tumblr media
These two are new, and as such, their lore is still under construction.
Old Man Blep is an Asura Engineer. He is the Twins Father. He works in construction maintenance in Rata Sum.
Kiotvi Wildblood is a Norn Theif. He is a hunter of the wild, and wields a shortbow.

i know no one cares so i wont go fully in depth, but i do have a little city of survivng Orrian descendants that live off of the coast of Sparkfly Fen on a little island. They try to embrace and continue the traditions of their ancestors, while not being bound to them, and try their best to fight the risen and eventually lend their aid to restore orr

lmao I just realized I gave her back the same gloves she had back before she was a year old... The dyes are more intense, of course. Also, more rifle everywhere... I didn't get to type up anything for her yet, I've been distracted with other projects. I swear somewhere I had it written down something about their mother, since she was the one that wandered off. I think she was a Shaman for Raven and left to do something when Izar was very young. But she didn't know at the time that she was pregnant with Inkeri.
Their mother took it as a blessing from Raven that Inkeri was born with those bold, white eyes of hers. Unseeing as they were, she knew that Inkeri could see more than what anyone sighted could. Hege (mom) was never able to return back home to Hoelbrak, passing away from injuries sustained in a fight with Svanir to protect a sanctuary. I wanna say she was even as far north as Bjora Marches when she had Inkeri. So this wee, blind thing somehow wound up way down south in Sparkfly Fen and the pirates there. I wanna say the pirates were probably after her relationship with Cortiveis (a Sylvari—lol just realized she was Raven based and snowy at the same time...).
Raven slowly set her course to line up with Izar's—still haven't decided when exactly—since he knew they would need to be together or at least know of each other before certain events. I wanna say he probably encountered her first in some kind of tavern brawl that Inkeri threw herself into. Maybe she got thrown into his back and when he helped her up (he's nice like that) their Mists experiences connected, meshed, like a puzzle piece. Inkeri, of course, threw herself back in the fight and Izar sighed and got up to pull her back out. Probably by the scruff of her neck since she's so much tinier than him...
40 hours and 38 minutes for her 9th birthday!

Fun Facts about yourself: GW2 Edition
Tagged by @mindlessabnormity <3 Thank you.
Rules: List 5 facts about yourself as a player and tag people to get to know the fun and surprising stuff they’re willing to share 👍
1.) My cousin gifted me Guild Wars 1 Deluxe Edition for Christmas back when I was about 14. I had no idea what I was doing, but had a ton of fun. He played with me for a couple of months and quit, but I still kept going. I had a Necromancer Elementalist named Endorall and a monk elementalist named Sashimi. I didn’t know what Sashimi was at the time, and thought it was pretty.
2.) The one singular time I took a break from GW2 was during Living World Season 1 and I’m still salty at myself about it. I remembered Lion’s Arch from GW1, and when I walked into it all destroyed, I remembered thinking “Something happened here...” I thought the dwarves had something to do with it.
3.) I dropped 200 dollars on gems in one go for gold so that I could buy the permanent bank contract at a cheaper price on the Trading Post a few years back. I use it literally every day, and don’t regret the decision.
4.) I’m an avid roleplayer on GW2 and have been part of a roleplay guild for 5 years come January 2021. (Hit me up if you ever wanna talk characters!)
5.) My two most favorite memories in GW2 are: 1. hearing a dragon roar for the first time in Sparkfly Fen, only to crest a hill and see Tequatl for the first time. It was chaos. Everyone was dead, Tequatl was wreaking havoc, map chat was panicking, I still didn’t know that enter allowed you to use said chats... Yet we still beat it. 2. Looking into the sky and seeing Kralkatorrik for the first time legitimately made me cry. It was so seamless and amazing how that moment was presented. I’ll never forget these moments.
@commander-titania @paluwu-joko @scribesofcalamity @just-eyris-things Have you all had the chance to do this yet? :3

reasons Tequatl is the best world boss:
“Brothers, sisters, ready yourself! Tequatl is here!”
"THERE’S SOMETHING IN THE WATER! HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELP!”
"Get back! It's about to breathe! Stay out of its way!"
“Target is in the air! I repeat: target is in the air!”
The Vigil Megalaser is charged! Get back into the fray!
“Such a cost. So many dead...”

Uh...does anyone know what this area behind a Sparkyfly Fen vista is? Like are there lore implications or a jumping puzzle? I love the hell out of this map and only found it now, after years of map completions.

Varuna’s affinity for water magic stems from their early career as an Elementalist. Since birth, their parents were aware of the magical prowess, and hired a tutor for each of the main elemental schools to rigorously train them for a future fighting against the dragons. Varuna was a largely apathetic child, struggling to make friends of either family members or classmates alike. But they often heard stories of the conflict against Zhaitan, and were adamant about staying true to their studies that it would help in the fights to come.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Two years into working for the Priory, they were deployed to a dig in Sparkfly Fen— deep in Risen territory. Most of the excavation had gone well, and their crew was only a day or two out from actually setting to return to the Priory with the information they had all uncovered. But after an ambush by Risen forces, they were left with just one companion— a fellow novice among their peers named Clipp. The two hadn’t been particularly close, but had shared space for long enough that it hurt them to see her in such pain.
“I know healing magic. Please, let me help.”
“No! No. Rin, we can’t risk you losing your strength. You’re—ah…” Her side seized up as she winced in pain, clutching the side of her face in frozen agony, before taking several deep breaths and relaxing her posture to continue. “You’re our only hope that the Priory knows what happened here today… That we didn’t die for nothing.”
“You aren’t going to die! We are going to— Clipps.” Their voice fell to a hush. “Clipps stay down… please.” Ahead of them, a group of 12 Risen had steadily made their way into the clearing adjacent to where the two of them had been taking shelter. “I can— oh, Dwayna… no.” It was then that they had noticed familiarities in the faces of at least three of the shambling undead. Gronn. Slash. Edmund. There were plenty of accounts supporting corruption by slain victims happening so soon. But still, Varuna began to tremble, tears streaming down their chin. “I’m sorry. But I have to do this. For both of us. And for all of us!”
Still shaking, they rose to full stature and emerged from behind the cliffside, blasting a single fireball at the head of the group to get their attention. Trying not to panic, Varuna remembered when they were younger, learning about the different sensations of magical flow. Sand and stone may both be aspects of Earth Magic, but they aren’t the same. Sand moves with the flow of magic. Holding stead with two hands, they set their staff into the sand, sinking the charging Risen into the earth, some of them still snapping and screaming to reach them as they struggled. Gasping for breath, Varuna propped themself up with their staff and wove a glyph with an outstretched hand, calling down bolts of lightning on the submerged Risen, and charring them to a crisp.
Still struggling for breath, they turned back around the corner to check on Clipp. “Hah… phew… I think I got them. I… Clipps.” But they had nothing left to say. Standing in what would only be a moment of silence before death rattled at their own feet, Varuna decided to leave. They abandoned the relics, and tried to forget the sensation of battle at their fingertips. Now, still, they almost always use Water Magic— striving to live a life healing the damage caused by others.
