"What's a Shihou?"

Macaque cooed softly. Mihou's claws gently stroked under the golden-fur monkey's chin, a sweet shiver went down his spine

"Or should I call you Sun Wukong, huh?" — Macaque whispered languidly in his ear.

Wukong's face fell in shock

"How are you?!"

" Oh, you don't even deny it, as usual?" - Macaque grinned, - "well, they don't call me the six-eared Macaque for nothing, silly."

Shihou Sun Wukong frowned, his whole body tensed, noticing this Macaque let out a soft laugh.

"Peaches, don't worry, I won't tell anyone, but to be honest, you're a disgusting actor. I still can't figure out how our friends didn't figure out who you are, although the idea of asking your general to adopt your appearance is quite ingenious, haha," Mac gently stroked Wukong's cheek.

" Wait! Did you find out even then!?"

"Well, not right away, but consider that that call was the starting point. And then... And then there were many other clues. Well, after comparing the facts, I decided that you are Sun Wukong, the monkey king, who is hiding it, and invented the name Shihou."

" I'm not..."

" Not what?" - ask Macaque

Shihou exhaled loudly - "The name Shihou, it's not made up.... It's... That's the name my foster mom gave me." - Wukong awkwardly rubbed his neck, looking away.

"Oh, oh, that's... that's.. . It's cute, really" - Macaque bent down to his ear again - "but now the question arises" - warm breath tickled Wukong's ear, he shuddered a little when Macaque gently ran his finger to his ear.

"How should I call you? M? Maybe... My king ~?"— The hand that had been resting on Shihou's chest slowly slid down. Wukong felt how Macaque's lips touching his ear, causing him to abruptly push the dark monkey away. His whole face was completely red. The golden eyes frantically darted from side to side

" Ah... uh... ah! What is it!?" — Shihou shouted sharply, pointing his finger somewhere to the side. Macaque turned irritably in the direction his friend was pointing, but there was nothing there. When he returned, the place where Shihou was standing was empty, but he noticed a cloud flying fast in the sky. What a cheap trick. The dark ape's pupils contracted into a snap. Are you avoiding my advances, Monkey King? The Macaque's lips stretched into a smug smile. Don't even think about running away from me, Shihou~

Soon his contract will be over, but Macaque decided not to wait and already start caring for him. Yes, they did agree that as long as the contract was valid, he and Shihou couldn't be more than friends, but... Shihou is so charming, the more Macaque got to know him, the more he wanted to appropriate him for himself.

And since Shihou, that is, the infamous Monkey King Sun Wukong, pretends to be a demon, then the courtship was demonic. Hmm, maybe he should mix courtship? Still, Wukong is considered a celestial monkey. In any case, Wukong clearly cares about him.

A soft warmth filled his chest as Macaque remembered all those awkward attempts by the Monkey king to hide his courtship under a friendly gesture. Oh, Warrior wouldn't even be surprised if Wukong wasn't aware of his actions. He's so cute. That he want to ruin him. Make him tremble with pleasure so that Wukong forgets all the words except his, Macaque, name, Macaque wonder how sweetly Shihou will moan under him?

Meanwhile, Sun Wukong, who has never had a relationship in his long immortal life, is dying of embarrassment on his cloud:

Wo-hoo! Time to tell about Pandora's retinue. Long text.

CT-154374A (leads the lexmechanics on the ship and led the tech-priests on the exploration expedition as Pandora's right hand)

He knew Pandora back when she had not yet received the rank of Magos, and he himself was a simple acolyte. Usually, she does not pay attention to those who have not yet become a full-fledged member of the Machine cult. This is not arrogance, but rather a banal lack of interest. But she appreciated CT-154374A's abilities and contributed to his development.

He is a perfectionist to the core, phlegmatic, has management skills and copes with his job perfectly. However, he is too tactful and non-confrontational - and this greatly hinders his career advancement.

Considered a Lexmechanic for his love of organizing information, he has yet to decide which line of research he likes best. During a exploration expedition, Pandora fully appreciated the versatility of his skills. A jack of all trades, to put it bluntly.

Alpha-Xi 0023 (leads a maniple of classiari)

A shining example of the devout native of Forge World who lacked the skills to become tech-priest, but had plenty of fighting spirit. He worked his way up from a common laborer to an alpha-skitarii through long and hard work, trading his own achievements for new augmentations. His track record includes particular effectiveness on the battlefield, participation in the defense of the Ex-beta-734 manufactorum, as well as leading a successful operation to eliminate the leaders of a workers' revolt.

He is fanatical in his faith in the Omnissiah, but otherwise retains a fair amount of humanity. Before Pandora, he had little interaction with magos, but he had heard enough about the experiences of others, and therefore at first he was afraid that she would be wasteful in the matter of using skitarii. Alpha-Xi 0023 feels an excessive responsibility for his subordinates and is extremely prudent. However, magos Pandora has proven herself to be an excellent strategist so far, with her instructions leading the maniple out of battles without a single loss, and therefore he can rest easy.

Theta-000001A (leads cohort of hypaspists)

Unlike Alpha-Xi 0023, he was born to be a Skitarii, and has been trained since childhood. He is quite young and has not yet had time to prove himself in combat, but was appointed to his position due to his excellent performance in training. His cohort are brothers and sisters who grew up with him, and the squad was formed when they were still children.

Faith in the Omnissiah and a sense of his own destiny have been ingrained in his mind over the years of training, as has loyalty to the magos to whom his cohort was later entrusted. Theta-000001A yearns to become an even more perfect instrument of the Machine God, but due to his youth and an unpleasant encounter with one of the elder skitarii as a child, he fears losing his identity in the process. He is quite detached from all things worldly, but feels a strong connection with his subordinates, as if they were a big and strange family (which they are).

I logged my 200th bird species for Wisconsin! I got a great tip from a close friend, who knows about these things, that a Hooded Warbler had appeared in a park near my house.

[ID: A male Hooded Warbler perches on a mossy branch in the forest. His body is just a couple inches long, with green feathers on back, wings, and tail, and dull yellow for the underparts. His "hood" is a black cowl that covers almost his entire head save for a bright yellow mask that extends in an oval from the middle of his face to surround the eye and ear on each side. He has a pointy dark gray bill shaped for picking insects off of trees, and his eye is a reflective jet black that stands out against the yellow mask. End ID]

The next morning, I packed up my camera along with my work bag and took a break from my commute to check out the park. I arrived to find several people wandering the trails, here to do the exact same thing as me. None of them had seen the Hoodie yet, but they had a wealth of information from other birders on the movements and general behavior of the bird from the past couple days. I spent at least 45 minutes wandering the trails, squishing through the damp and the mud in my work slacks and sneakers. I logged five firsts for 2024, but no sign of the elusive Hooded Warbler.

So I left the park for work, but decided I should come back in the evening. I knew from the sighting reports in eBird that this guy is active all day. When I got back to the park, it was cloudy and drizzling. I met a pair of nice young women with binoculars and a camera lens as long as mine. I asked, "Are you here looking for the Hooded Warbler too?"

One of them said very casually, "Oh yeah, it's right over there across the creek. Just flittering around." So of course I had to get eyes on him and try to get a photo. It was only a couple minutes before he came out again and started working the far bank of the creek.

I probably followed the Hoodie down the creek for like 10 minutes before he decided to cross over to our side to do some more foraging. I froze. He was almost completely hidden in the brush, but I could see bits of movement and kept him in the frame the whole time. I knew I couldn't make any sudden moves without scaring him away. For a brief moment, he came out to take a closer look at me, which is where all the photos in this post came from. I only managed to shoot three bursts while he was completely out in the open before he took off for the far side of the creek again.

I was left feeling incredibly amped. The other photographer and I had to share back-of-the-camera shots and gush over how cute he was and how close he came to us. It seems it's always a special event when a rare or unusual species shows up in town. I love these brief moments of connection with birds and the people that care about them.

Abby just wandering through the pizzeria, trying to locate the Withered's--trying to locate her friends--only to end up hearing a sound... it's a slow song that's a bit distant, but it catches her curiosity.

She'll find her friends, she will--but she just gets momentarily distracted, going in the direction of where the music seems to be coming from. It grows louder and louder, and she can hear more of the notes, before finally reaching a specific room.

There's a large box in the corner--the music itself emitting from that. There are additional boxes, Abby realizes, right on top of it--keeping whatever... whoever inside of it, and she knows that she isn't alone.

The opening lifts, but falls down each time because of the weight of the other boxes that lay atop it. Abby is certain that she hears a voice.

And Abby approaches further, until she can remove all of the smaller boxes--and The Puppet pops out in an instant, briefly startling her.
