I've been messing around with a super old version of RPG maker for the last 3-ish years and have made a game with a decent amount of content and features for it being my first attempt. I enjoyed using, but the tilesets always gave me a headache, so I didn't really make anything super cool.

Well, a couple weeks ago, I was introduced to Game Maker.

I started following a tutorial and got some basic stuff done and ho boy, my ego exploded. The second that first video was finished, I was already importing and editing my old character sprite sheets and tilesets.

AND THEY ACTUALLY WORKED!!! Whaaaaat???? XD

Well, three days of not eating properly, watching the same tutorial over and over, and a overcast walk with ambient breakcore later, I have unfortunately had an awesome and somehow, cohesive, idea:

A Yume Nikki inspired type dreamy horror game, based around my oc's childhood. It would be so cool to be able to highlight his escapism from life as a kid, him trying to avoid the horrors of his reality through dreams, imagining these beautiful places that he's always read about, but it being wrong, nothing quite terrifying, but definitely not right. Showing the steady decline as things get worse and worse before he wakes up, right back where he started, in that same room, right back to the terror.

It would be so cool!!! I haven't been able to write in any childhood things in my book because of some established plot points and mostly likely won't find a good opportunity to bring it up later, so it would be perfect!

I have this huge list of scenes and events I want to make, along with a list of tiles and this really cool animation idea, but I'm still over here screaming because I can't get my dialogue code to work properly...

you start showing up at housewarden meetings.

(crowley thinks he’s doing you a favor by including you in the school’s inner workings)

riddle looks at you with what can only be described as the face of an orphan child who got forced to work at the doorknob factory the day after their entire family died of the shingles.

leona’s ears flatten, he wrinkles his nose and he walks to the other side of the room (something about smelling that crow on you).

azul keeps smirking and rubbing his hands together like a mafia housefly because he can’t wait for you to sit in the mostro lounge next week while complaining about your inevitable relationship troubles.

kalim still treats you in his usual friendly manner, albeit starting every conversation with “i know jamil told me not to talk to you…”

vil looks at you with that disappointed-sprite.png expression. he doesn’t say anything.

idia’s tablet mysteriously shuts off when you stand near him.

“someone who can get with THAT guy has got to have some screws loose. scary.”

lilia goes on tangents about various romantic endeavors from the past that he had heard about or been involved in;

“that one time when A went ballistic and dunked their partner’s head in the well because they never helped with the chores…”

“B becoming the village laughingstock after being caught in the act in the storage-shed because their spouse couldn’t keep it in their pants….”

“C crying themselves to sleep in the army-tent every night because their SO never responds to their mail…”

meanwhile crowley is standing there cheerfully, hand on your back, thinking everyone is soooooo jealous. of yuu.

this is just 🤌🤌 the hollow horror on riddle's face, he looks like he's aged forty years in the past ten minutes. leona keeps glaring from across the room, he's very unhappy and making sure everyone knows it (not that he didn't have suspicions before, he just convinced himself that you were too smart/good to actually bang the headmage). azul is just waiting to capitalize off of this, now he has even more leverage over crowley. poor kalim... 😔 he says love is love!!!! too bad jamil wants to kill you for being so stupid. man you didn't even have to say the sprite, the second I saw vil's name I was already picturing it. he'll pull you aside later and ask if you've been dropped on your head recently. and idia's silence.mp3 he thinks you're fucking crazy. AND THEY FORGOT TO INVITE MALLEUS AGAIN. FUCK. lilia keeps prattling on about how wonderful it is that fae and humans can be in loving, happy relationships now, oh you'll just have to meet sebek's parents soon!!!! <- leona is considering throwing something at his head to get him to shut up

next staff meeting is even worse bc crewel will outright say you have awful taste and trein will ask if crowley is blackmailing you
