F#CK! Totally blindsided

they punched us in the gut on purpose

We needed some time to process the shit show that was Your Sky episode 11 before we were ready to talk about it. It's taken us a while, but we think it's important to have these discussions, so we are going to try.

We did not see that coming. We tried hard not to watch the teaser for the episode and even with the little glimpses we caught here and there, we were pretty convinced it was just a bad dream or Teerak's imagination again. This was the cute and fluffy show with all the green flags and more love than was reasonable. We believed there was no way the family could give us anything but unconditional love and acceptance.

They didn't want us to see this coming. They had gone above and beyond to paint Teerak's family as this super loving and supportive family. Dad even watched a BL drama and talked about it with Rak. And Fah's parents had been amazingly accepting and supportive, wanting only for their child to be happy, and we expected nothing less of Rak's loving parents. They wanted us to believe Teerak was just being overly worried, like he had been about meeting Fah's parents.

Then they built it up, with Grandpa being chill and mom biting her tongue when she saw how her son had suffered with worry. Surely dad would choose his son's happiness as well. We were in shock watching it go from ugly to worse as we realized this was not going to be a bad dream. It was absolutely sickening.

Watching the fallout was terrible. Fah crying. Our cheerful Rak broken and continuing to seek acceptance from his dad. A once loving family suffering under the strain and falling apart piece by piece. But that was the whole point. They wanted to show the before and after. The contrast between the love and joy and the consequences of dad's reaction.

We could write a book about the reactions both Teerak's parents have, but even if that is an elephant in the room, we aren't here to talk about that elephant. The anger and frustration and heartbreak we felt left us feeling really blindsided and broken. But again, this is the point. We agree with each other that as parents, we always want our children to feel unconditional love and hurting your child in this way is our worse fear. And although we are still in our feeling and didn't like that our fluffy watch turned into nightmare fuel, situations like this are real and should be shown and talked about. So we will forgive them for blindsiding us this way and maybe someday, we will even be able to love this show even more for what they did here. The discomfort and pain they intentionally inflicted leads to conversations and reflection and hopefully growth.

Dad’s words would cause internal scars to Rak’s heart and the entire family but that is reality. Family may hurt us but if we understand and apologize for the hurtful things we say, love will still be bigger.

There will definitely be scars left on this fictional family. But hopefully the lessons learned here may help some heal or avoid inflicting the same wounds with their families.
