This inspired me to chart up the logos for double knitting. :-D (Or intarsia, though intarsia and I are not the best of friends, but YMMV. I probably wouldn't try to knit these in stranded colorwork though with all the white space.)
So, anyone want a Veilguard knitting chart?
Tumblr media
Or a Crows chart?
Tumblr media
Making these involved isolating the logos (I love the collegiate seal versions but charting them for knitting would only work in a really big project, maybe a blanket), running them through StitchFiddle, and then double-checking everything for symmetry and smoothing out the edges. I'm still working on that last part for the other factions but I'll share when I'm done with them too. I plan to maybe knit a dice bag with one or more of these! A hat might work too if I use a fine enough yarn weight... 🤔 And I'd love to see if anyone does make something from these!
(N.B. These are charted at my DK on 3.25mm needles gauge of 24 st and 35 rows per 4". If your gauge proportions are much different, you'll get somewhat stretched logos.)

As promised, the collegiate-seal versions of logos for all the Dragon Age Veilguard factions.

Are you like me and think Adobe sucks much ass for their "buy our shit, but you have to pay a subscription for it to continue to work" bullshit? Want to steal their shit, which is good and proper, but it's not necessarily an intuitively easy action? Don't want to steal it for a myriad of reasons?
There are lots of Photoshop alternatives. I mean, I know how to steal their shit safely, but meh. I found and prefer Krita. A lot of people use GIMP which is pretty awesome. Lots of good art stuff for free or pay.
But, what about Adobe Acrobat? Just so happens I found a dandy of a replacement for it. PDF24 pretty much does everything Adobe PDF reader does, and it's free. You can use it either in the browser or download it.
I've been using it for a while and have had no issues with it. Definitely worth checking out if you wanna get out of Adobe's thumb.

making progress on my charts! i now have the back numbers, the nameplate and the sleeve numbers all charted up :)
there are still some minor tweaks* i'll probably make whilst going along but for now i'm excited i have enough to get started!
also i'm still deciding if i want to knit the nameplate separately and literally sew it on for extra authenticity points...
*e.g. i think i need to add another column of stitches to the "c"
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
it's actually kinda interesting to see how it all scales up (c.f. the big number chart which is 62 sts wide and the sleeve chart which is half that....)

[ID: 4 photos of a green v-neck sweater vest, with designs from 1760 in light beige yarn. The first two photos show the front and back of the vest. There is a design with birds and flowers circling the bottom. The front has a lying down dog, facing left but with its head turned back to the right. The back has a man on a horse, holding a bird in his hand. The v-neck and armholes are 1x1 ribbed, and the hem is ribbed in a “baby cable” pattern. The third photo shows a close up of the colourwork from the inside. The birds along the bottom are stranded, whereas the larger designs on the front and back use ladderback jacquard. The fourth photo shows a closeup of the design along the bottom. Two birds face eachother, with a pole inbetween them and candlesticks to the side of them. End ID]
A sweater vest for my friend, using designs from a 1760 german pattern book that i meticulously copied into stitchfiddle and then arranged onto a pattern.
I'm really proud of this, I knit the same vest pattern (but with different, simpler colourwork) almost exactly 2 years ago, and seeing my progress since then is really cool!

Whaaaaaa! I finished this blanket last week but haven't gotten around to posting it yet! But wow.. I cannot explain how happy I am with the end result! I haven't measured it so I cannot give you specifics but it is wider than I am tall, which is 1m62, and definitely taller. (In the pic it looks narrower than it actually is) I made the design in StitchFiddle and it is 261x214 stitches (55.854 stitches) but I added an extra row all around the blanket in black so that is uhm... 56.804 stitches or something.. I think? My calculator says it is :')
Tumblr media
The stitch I used the most was the extended single crochet, because I wanted each little 'pixel' to be visible but that means the stitches are slightly wider than they are tall. As you can tell I did not block it so it's a bit wobbly, oops, but to be honest I was too lazy for it and it's going to be on my bed anyway so it's fine :D

Behold, my latest cross-stitch creation! Based on an original work by @brandirecognition (which they've gone on record saying was painted one X at a time), I give you a physical replica of Live is Where the Learn Is!
Tumblr media
Look at it. All those stitches, done at my hand on 18-count oatmeal Aida fabric. I had to estimate the spacing when creating the pattern on StitchFiddle, but I'd say it was a couple of hours well spent before the real deal was to be done.
Four months. Four colors. Probably the biggest piece I've made to date. If I had a fireplace, I'd hang it above the mantel. Alas, I have an apartment, so I'll have to settle for some wall space.
After I find a proper frame, of course. The hoop is just temporary.

The Ilves Crest Crochet Tapestry
I locked in last night lol, just finished this-
Tumblr media
Original design by ZsakuVA, border pattern by naztazia on YouTube, tapestry pattern made by me on Stitchfiddle.
Random notes:
So the actual stats of this thing: The actual creative process started January 23 (I'VE BEEN WORKING ON THIS FOR THAT LONG?!?!?!?!!?) when I asked Saku if it was okay to try crocheting his design. Crocheting took a little over 7 weeks and ~108 hours? But with a bunch of interruptions due to college and family stuff. Luckily I bought more than enough yarn to finish this, since I found out a week after I started that JoAnn was closing (they had the best yarn selection I'd ever seen too 😭). It is 57.25 in. long (~1.5 m) and 47 in. wide (~1. 2 m).
I thought about making this like- an actual wall-hanging tapestry, but as it got longer I saw that it made a really nice blanket so I decided to just keep it as a throw. Definitely my biggest project to date...
Crochet list is still going for the VAs lol... I kind of want to make a wearable for myself though, so one small plushie attack to take a break from the big projects, then I'm going to make myself a spiderweb coat! If anyone has ideas on what I could make for the VAs, I'd love to hear them- Saku's down, for Nora I want to make a giant stuffed onigiri pillow... I think for Scythe I want to make JayJay's red panda plushie Advoo, but I feel like I could make something more epic. For Escaped, Mage, and GBA I have no idea what to make.
Anyway hope you guys like it!!!! This was super fun, and I'm really really proud of how it came out.
And thank you Saku, your work is super inspiring and I hope I did your design justice!
Cheers, lovelies <3

my crochet grid is finally finished!!!! i started this i think two weeks ago? and now its done!! i plan on turning this into a sweater soon :33
grid i used + more specific info under the cut
Tumblr media
this is the cd artwork specifically (hence the roses on the top and bottom) that i imported into stitchfiddle and tweaked a teeny bit to clean it up. its 65 x 65 stitches
i used a 4 mm hook and weight 4 yarn, so mine ended up being about 17x17 inches but of course yours may differ depending on hook size and yarn weight if you plan on making this :3
