214. cerelle and balon in star wars 9

how the fuck do i explain this

okay, so... i've been on a cerelle x balon swann hyperfixation trip these last few weeks, and as such am imagining several different possibilities for their story to go in au's. a long time ago, i came up with a story in which jon and cerelle die and get transported into the world of the star wars sequels (episode 7, to be exact). and recently i thought: hey, let's do that with my new babies.

the story goes as such: cerelle and balon somehow (don't ask me how. possibly by dying) end up on one of the planets in the star wars galaxy, where they get attacked and are then captured by the first order. they want to kill cerelle because they assume she has the force, yet in the last moment cerelle and balon are saved by the resistance who take them to their base.

they bond a lot trying to get used to this new world they have been thrust into - trying to make sense of blasters and space ships and lightsabers and holograms and the force isn't easy. but all of this makes them stick even closer together (balon still sees himself as cerelle's sworn sword, even if her title holds no meaning here). cerelle is actually force-sensitive, as it turns out, and so she gets trained by rey and finn, whom she befriends really quickly. balon hits it off with poe, and once the final battle with the first order rolls around, they agree to help.

this au is very much an excuse to rewrite episode 9 with canon endgame reylo, stormpilot, and rose/connix (you can pry this ship from my cold, dead hands), but also me forcing cerelle and balon to finally admit their feelings for each other. separated from the court and the kingsguard and looming betrothals, and exploring an all-new world together while being very much different from everyone around you is the perfect excuse to finally make these two lovebirds kiss.

2024 wrapped

I joined Tumblr in October of 2023, solely to be able to read three Star Wars fan comics that I found on Google (couldn’t view them without an account!).

For many months, I only interacted with these comics, as I was rather confused about how the site worked and really didn’t spend that much time on it.

Then, summer of ‘24, I was invited to the Reylo community. From there, I began looking around for some written fanfiction recommendations. I didn’t understand how to use tags on AO3, and I didn’t want to read any spice, but the community was so helpful and understanding and gave me many fics that I’ve come to absolutely adore! 

I spent the remainder of summer reading fanfiction, experiencing those moments truly unique to those in fandom culture (crying at 3am, phone rotation locked so you can curl up on your side, screen brightness turned all the way down. You know the drill). 

Then, on August 22, sometime between 11:40 and 12:05 PM, I fell headfirst into the Cherik fandom. I’d watched the X-Men movies over summer, preparing to see Deadpool and Wolverine. However, that day, I happened to have been in the middle of re-reading the book Fangirl, in which there’s two little lines on page 234 about Professor X and Magneto being gay. I just so happened to mention this to a friend during lunch, and she pulled me aside and showed me an edit and… that was that. I was completely invested. 

I began reading Cherik fanfiction, and it became increasingly clear that investing in an AO3 account would be incredibly helpful. So, on September 8th, my account got approved and I posted my first ever fanfiction. 

Since then, I’ve written over 18 different Cherik fics, ranging from oneshots to series. I’ve posted 107,457 words. I’ve read hundreds (I wish I was exaggerating) of beautiful, life-changing, funny, horribly sad and incredibly fluffy works by other authors. And I’ve found a community. 

The Cherik and X-Men fandom is the first truly active fandom I’ve ever participated in. While my Reylo and Stormpilot days were lovely, it was clear that I’d missed the excitement during the time in which canon content was actually coming out, as I joined the Star Wars fandom late. My other fandoms in years before, well, I’d simply been too young and too timid to really be interacting at all. and my offline friends and I have always had greatly varying interests. 

It’s silly to say, maybe, but I feel so validated as a person by the fact that I’m a part of this fandom. Hyperfixations are how I navigate the world. I’ve always lived further in the plane of imagination than the one of reality, between my naturally bookish nature and some persistent medical issues that… well, have caused issues. This community makes me feel like what I’m interested in and the things that make me happy are worth doing. 

Thank you to every single person in this fandom. Thank you for a truly spectacular year.

Why I've fallen out of love with Reylo and yet another Sequel Trilogy rewrite

So. I think I lost complete interest in Reylo. I look at fanart and I feel nothing.

Mostly because I feel like the trilogy was wasted on this dynamic instead of focusing on Rey's character beyond an origin and Finn's character.(they really fucked over Finn and John Boyega) Poe(god did they fuck up by choosing that stupid fucking spice runner twist) and Rose(they really did her dirty) They sacrificed the integrity of these characters, in favor of what was supposed to be the villain's development or lack there of. Originally they were leaning towards Kylo Ren's struggle in between the light and the dark would move him to be confident and fully embrace the dark side in the end, so the opposite of Vader.....BUT OF FUCKINGCOURSE THEY WENT BACK TO FUCKING PALPATINE

Also now a days, I find it REALLY tone deaf that a group that JJ Abrams was inspired to make it "What if the Nazis in Argentina all linked up and started again" and decided to redeem the head Nazi "because Han's memory and love" only it really ISN'T redemption because he never faced any punishment or go on any meaningful atonement and fucking no dying all of a sudden is not punishment or fucking redemption.

Also, WHAT IS THE POINT of redeeming the guy if Anakin's force ghost never appeared? Also any meaningful redemption was rendered useless given how little footage of Leia they could've used

P.S. Stormpilot and Reyrose should've been the romances of the Sequel Trilogy. I said what I said

No offense to the fans that still like it, but I just feel nothing for it anymore, other than overall disappointment in the Sequel Trilogy's potential. I don't have an intense hatred for it like I did inbetween 2018-2020, but I just don't feel anything for it.

But some changes I've been thinking recently

Din and Grogu find Rey on Jakku. This in turn leads to Din helping Rey find her parents and this leads them down the journey to discovering Rey is the daughter of Korkie Kryze and the granddaughter of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Satine Kryze aka the heir to Mandalore and the Darksaber. Inspired by this fanart of Din and little Rey. Also Rey and Grogu having the most intense sibling rivalry the verse has seen.

Finn would have his journey of being a Stormtrooper, rebel to Jedi journey that HE SHOULD HAVE FUCKING HAD! But with a twist. He finds out that his were royalty. Maz Kanata would be human and she would be the Queen Of Artorias and mother of Finn and Jannah. Inspired by this theory. The Imperium first attacked and raided Artorias. Their father, the king tried to defend his kingdom, but he was killed by Captain Phasma and took the prince and princess as leverage. Over the years The FIrst Order has plundered the planet for resources and since then have laid siege over the planet. Finn and Jannah promises their mother that they will reclaim their home

Poe is the Black Ace of the New Republic and son of Rebel heroes. He is the spark that will help burn the Imperium down. Being saved by Finn and seeing first hand how The Imperium abducts and conscripts children into the Stormtrooper program changed his world view.

Paige is New Republic Y-Wing Pilot and Rose is the NR's Engineer Officer and Hacker. Over the course of the trilogy Rose falls for Rey and they help liberate slaves and bust up war mongers like Canto Bight.

Like in my if the Sequels didn't ignore the politics of it's time rewrite. The First Order is the Imperium and Snoke is like Trump. Base Snoke around the mango Mussolini and his lunatic fringe followers. An Alt-Right cult leader who cultivates the worst people imaginable. All The First Order needed to be was pointing out The New Republic brought the galaxy to an age of scum and villainy. A lawless state that usurped the rightful rulers that brought law and order. Basically "Make the Galaxy great again with Imperial Greatness" Lucas originally based Palpatine around Nixon, So I don't see why they couldn't do something similar with the CLEAR FUCKING EVIL going on in the world at the time this trilogy was being made. No Sith master was needed.

Kylo Ren is a representation of the whole "make so and so great again" someone who longs for the "good ole days" of Imperial Fascism, the good days that were never there. He was nationalized and radicalized. He found out Vader was his grandfather, he was even further radicalized and promised to bring back the greatness of Vader, something that was never great yet he's so blinded and so far gone that he just can't see it. So how would Ben turn in this scenario? He's radicalized by Snoke. Ben starts hearing passionate speeches in the senate and Ben is moved. "I know he opposes my mother, but he's making a lot of sense" "He's right, we need to bring order to the galaxy" and Ben is radicalized by this Imperium movement and what he believes is Snoke's righteous cause. To Snoke, Ben represents everything great about the Empire. Snoke collects Sith Holocrons and uses the holocrons to turn Ben Solo into Kylo Ren. During his time as a Jedi, Ben uses what Snoke has said and used them to radicalize his fellow Jedi and turn them against Luke. Those who would stand with Ben, would become the Knights of Ren. In this scenario, I wouldn't redeem Ben. He is far too gone. He's committed atrocities in Snoke's name, for The Imperium and to bring order to the galaxy. While Finn represents those who could break away from Right Wing movements and Cults. Kylo Ren is far too gone, he's radicalized to the point where he's a die hard believer like Hux and Phasma and he's willing to fight and die for this cause.

Hux. Much like his main timeline counterpart, he is the son of Brendal Hux, only this time around, HE'S NOT A FUCKING SPY YOU FUCKING IDIOTS! He is a ruthless unhinged Nazi, everything we saw in the Starkiller Base speech is exactly what we get. Bloodthirsty, intelligent and remorseless. No slapstick comedy and no spy.

Phasma. Now this is where the real big change occurs. Instead of the head of the Stormtrooper corps, Phasma is a Mandalorian. Phasma is the daughter of Imperial Super Commandos loyal to Gar Saxon. She has been trained as a Mandalorian since birth and promised her family she would win back Mandalore, With The Imperium's help she has done that and more. For one final time, Mandalore has fallen. Phasma kills Bo-Katan Kryze and wins the Darksaber. Phasma is now Mandalore. Din eventually will fall and this unites Rey and Finn against Phasma. Near the final phase of the trilogy. Phasma unites Mandalore against The Imperium and the New Republic. After Snoke's death and the infighting between Kylo and Hux, Phasma picks the perfect time to destroy them. the remnants of their armies that chose to stay loyal after Finn's Rebellion are conscripted into the New Mandalorian army. We get the Liberated Stormtroopers and people of Artorias vs the Phasma loyalists and Rey and Finn vs Phasma as the climax of the trilogy. Phasma being the main villain of this trilogy is exactly what she deserved compared to how she was fucking wasted. What Phasma as a Mandalorian could look like Art source

After the war is over. Finn becomes the new king of Artorias and marries Poe. Rey and Rose marries as well. Rey becomes Mand'alor and leads her people and inducts Rose into Clan Mudhorn and they go on throughout the galaxy to liberate worlds ravaged by war, arms smugglers and slavery. Throughout their journey, Rose awakens to the force and Rey trains her and together they rebuild the Jedi Order. A order not held back by the Republic or the order's rigid code, one that lets the living force guides them to fight for what's right and liberate everyone they can.

I need people to stop being parasocial about ships and asking actors about ships. Especially men about gay ships. It has gotten SO WEIRD! I am gonna say that Destiel shippers have done irreparable damage to these types of interactions with actors. (Also, to be clear, not all destiel shippers, but I know you know about the ones I am talking about.)

Cause some of the questions that these actors are asked are perverted and weird. Questions I wouldn't even be okay asking some of my friends. I am fine with being perverted and weird, but not asking living being actors about how they would go down on the other actors character at a convention weird. Too many people forget that these are human beings with family and children, I would never ask an actor to repeat a line that involves sexual content infront of their children but too many people seem okay with that... and its weird.

And the shipping just gets so weird and parasocial. Its one thing if the actors ship it and want it to happen, for instance FinnPoe/Stormpilot is one where both actors were very for it and wanted it to evolve there. But its another to harass actors for not supporting a ship or wanting to kiss someone of the same sex due to be uncomfortable. Or harassing showrunners for not doing a ship or doing the ship right etc etc.

Also the weird inability to accept that conventionally attractive Male characters are straight yet the non-conventially attractive male characters they are perfectly fine with. Its odd

Like to an extent some actors do find it funny and will play along with more… adult jokes. Iirc James Mcavoy was shown nsfw cherik art and focused moreso on the fact that Charles, in fact, would top. Some are clearly cool with it.

But time, place and audience. Some actors aren’t. Some might be but not right now. Some might be but maybe not infront of their 4 year old.

There’s a basic amount of social etiquette that people forget when faced with a celebrity because they cannot imagine that person actually has boundaries

eh I usually don't write super angsty endings. I guess the Specs/Tucker one is pretty dreary since I abandoned it at a little cliffhanger.

excluding orgasms, Despite the Snow, Despite the Falling Snow is my only genuine angst with a happy ending. and it's a pretty cute get-together.

no, my fics aren't popular or controversial enough for that

Yep. Usually kinky stuff, and often stuff I myself find sort of weird. Gotta exorcise it i guess.

Funny enough, I used to write a fair bit of smut as a teen, deleted it all and spent years not writing any, and then it's been naught but smut since 2021.

10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?

no, I don't enjoy reading them either.

I'm pretty certain Despite the Snow, etc. was translated into Chinese back when I first posted it but ao3 doesn't show any related works. Maybe it got deleted?

I'm pretty fickle so I usually just stick to my favs in my current fandom. Right now it's CMJF with Joepunk contesting it for #1. My Stormpilot shipping would rear back up with every new Star Wars release so it was probably my longest-lasting ship.

15. What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

My Punk/AJ/Ace Steel fill for kinktober was supposed to be part of a longer fic that never got farther into than the very beginning and that extract I posted.

16. What are your writing strengths?

I feel like I'm pretty good at showing characters' feelings through action, without much internal monologue. I've been told I balance comedy and smut well which. I don't consider myself a funny person but I do like to lean into the absurdist premises of porn i guess

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Visual description. Partially because I'm bad at it, partially because I think it adds too much fluff and avoid it. Problem is I have a very visual imagination so fics that feel super detailed in my mind end up being 200 words long with no plot, because it's all just mise-en-scène that I can't get on the page.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

I've never really done it but I tend to enjoy when it's there. It may be cheesy but I love a good pet name in the character's native language.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

I dabbled a bit in Phantom of the Opera fic, but really got going in the Hannibal fandom.

20. Favorite fic you've written?

around 2017 I was really trying to make my fics feel ~atmospheric~ and I feel like I achieved that best in Despite the Snow, etc., even if it's partially adapting a scene from the book that never made it to the show (that I know of, I didn't watch past s1). I feel like I'm still plopping around awkwardly in wrestling fic so I really couldn't pick a favourite.

Finnpoe- "How Lucky Am I"

Poe and Finn retire, suddenly finding themselves married and fathers of 4 former First Order prisoners. They would have been Stormtroopers. Instead, the Resistance prevailed.

A brief snippet from the start of Poe and Finn’s journey into fatherhood.

If you don’t know her already- meet Hera, the youngest of the Finnpoe babies. She was taken as a newborn towards the end of the war, and liberated by Finn, who fell in love with her. Together, he and Poe decided to adopt her, and 3 older siblings soon followed. Hera is about 18 or so months here, and Finnpoe has had her for 3 months.

Hera wakes from her nap and screams for her fathers.

She’s never napped well- their oldest adoptee tells them that the First Order never comforted their stolen infants from nightmares or ill rest. And while she and their boys have at last begun to sleep well, the same is not true for Finn and Poe’s baby girl.

Poe is the one who steps out to get Hera, scooping her into his arms and cradling her against his chest. She wails into his shoulder, clinging to him, and Poe’s heart breaks.

He mutters a few strains from lullabies to her, willing Hera to quiet. It’s a full minute before she settles, gasping tearfully and grabbing at his shirt. He rocks her before pressing a kiss to her forehead, and she wraps a tiny hand around his finger, her brown eyes staring up at him.

“Hi sweetheart,” Poe whispers. “It’s okay. I have you, my love.”

The baby gurgles at him, her eyelids heavy. Still, she watches him and it’s another five minutes before Hera blinks slowly, and her eyes slide shut.

Poe sighs, gazing down at her. Hera is warm in his arms, a heavy and familiar weight. She looks peaceful in sleep, and Poe is not surprised by the usual temptation to hold Hera until she wakes again and tries to wiggle free of him.

It’s incredible, Poe realizes, to go from a war general one year to a father in the next. To find four children in quick succession, and to have a family with the man he loves. Poe inhales sharply, tears suddenly prickling at his eyes. He looks down at Hera.

"How lucky am I, to get to love you.” He whispers his confession. He’s in awe.

"We found each other. The whole wide universe and I get to be your dad. I get to change your diapers and get spit up on. I get to rock you to sleep. I get to love you. How lucky am I."

Poe sobs into Hera's hair, cradling her against his chest. He hears the door creak a moment later and looks up to see Finn watching them, his eyes wide and stricken.

"What's wrong?" He asks in a hurry, "Is she-"

"I'm fine, mi amor," Poe chokes, sounding utterly snotty. He sniffs loudly. Finn doesn't look convinced. "I'm just- we're so lucky to get to have these kids."

He turns his gaze back to Hera, who hasn't been disturbed by their voices, nor by the tears that have fallen from Poe's face onto hers.

"Oh." Finn says, and he steps into the nursery, reaching up to wipe Poe's eyes and cheeks. He presses a chaste kiss to his lover's lips, then runs his fingers over Hera's forehead, brushing stray hairs from her face. "I love you," he promises them both, and Poe leans in, resting his head against Finn's.

"Te amo. We love you."

Finn hums in contentment before pulling away, closing the door behind him as he exits. Poe resumes his swaying and rocking, murmuring lullabies under his breath, holding this most precious child in his arms.

As much as I’d love to see John and Oscar reprise the roles of Finn and Poe, I’m sure Disney would have married one or both of them off to women and closed the door on Stormpilot for good. At least this way, we can imagine them off in another part of the galaxy, being Space Husbands ™️ and doting on BB-8

Looks like Finn and Poe won’t be in the NJO movie guys.

But that’s okay we are just as excited to see Rey go on her own journey and pioneer a new future of Star Wars. The way Daisy’s been talking about it has me excited.

Poe has always known he was destined for the stars. He's always felt this insatiable need to fly among the stars, to be one with them. That's why he became a pilot. And a damn good one at that. 

Though, when Leia recruited him to be a part of the Resistance, he thought he would be just that. He never believed he could be more than a pilot until Leia showed him otherwise. He never even wanted to be more but Leia chose him for a reason. There was so many other people who were more capable than him to lead but she chose him, an arrogant pilot who makes impulsive decisions. 

Now he knows he's meant for so much more than he originally believed. And it's an intense pressure that he sometimes doesn't know if he can handle. But it's his duty to fulfill Leia's wishes for him.

Poe struggles with this. He struggles balancing what his heart yearns for, Finn, and his calling. He loves Finn more than he's loved anything but he has this burden of the greater good resting on his shoulders. He's torn. 

"My heart may belong to you," he tells Finn. "But I belong to the stars. Every minute that I'm with you, I'll be thinking about the stars where I'm needed. But every second I'm out there in the stars, I'll be wishing I was with you." 

"Well, then I guess it's a good thing I won't make you chose," Finn tells him. "Because I want to be with you, among the stars."

Poe teaches the Resistance’s style

Finn teaches the Stormtrooper’s tactics

Finn tends to beat Poe in hand to hand and weapons but Poe always beats Finn in X Wing simulations

On training days, they always get lunch together

One day while getting cleaned up after a session, Poe steals Finn’s clothes as a joke

After Finn catches up with him all he says is “If you wanted your jacket back, you could’ve just asked.”

Sometimes they’d reserve a training room just for them

The way they find out about each other’s feelings was during one of the private sessions

They were doing hand to hand combat

Finn had just thrown a punch that Poe blocked

Finn swept at the back of Poe’s knees at the same time that Poe shoved him

They both ended up falling on the training mat with Poe landing on top of Finn

Neither of them moved for a minute. They simply stared at each other while breathing heavily from the fight

Until Poe leaned down to kiss Finn

After pulling away, Poe begins to apologize but Finn cut him off by grabbing him and kissing him once more

They ended training on that note

The first person Finn told was Rey who had not-so-secretly shipped the two for a long time

She was ecstatic for him

Poe told BB-8 first

After every training session from then on, they’d end the training session with a kiss whether it was a quick peck or a make out session
