The Storm WILL Pass

I’ve gone through one of the hardest periods of uncertainty in my life. Things were really uncertain on the job front, at the same time, I was dealing with issues in my friendships and my only surviving grandmother was diagnosed with cancer at 88. 

I remember crying out at night, screaming out to God,that I wanted to give up. That I didn’t understand why I was hurting so much, that I had to fight so hard for things that seemed to come so easily to other Christians and Non-Christians. After all, wasn’t I a child of God? Why Didn’t I have the blessings I was promised?

Something that I had to accept was that my journey would be different from everyone else. And I could not compare my journey to theirs. For me, it was difficult to accept this. I felt that as I went to Church and I read the bible constantly, I didn’t deserve to hurt so much. At the crux of it, I realised that I thought I was entitled to an easy life because I was a child of God.

God promised in the bible that he would be with us in times of trouble. “ Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” (Deuteronomy 31:6, NIV). 

That we could cast our cares on him. “Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken” (Psalm 55:22,NIV)

I don’t think that God promised an easy life. He promised strength and promised that he would be with us in difficult times. 

Once I realised this, I started praying for strength to get through each day and each day I felt that the Lord had truly given me strength and wisdom in my thoughts and actions as I faced trying situations. He has never failed to answer my daily prayer for strength. He is truly a kind and merciful Lord.

Certain opportunities have opened up for me and I know it was God’s work and favour that have given it to me and I am truly thankful and grateful. Praise the Lord!

My storm is not over yet. But I am trying and growing so close to God. I am of course imperfect and I fall to temptation and sin at times. But God died for me on the cross so that I could have freedom from sin. My slate has been wiped clean by the blood of christ. 

As I am disappointed in myself for giving into certain temptations, perhaps it is an opportunity for me to focus my studies on it and overcome these areas once and for all. By God’s Grace.
