Bo roughly swiped at the tears that fell onto his cheeks, his heart thudding painfully in his chest. He thought - he assumed, really - that Aless felt the same way about him as he did about her.

She had said the words so dismissively, and Bo felt his chest contract in agony as a couple more tears slipped down his face; he didn't bother to wipe them away.

He took a moment to calm himself down - he hadn't cried at school since he had turned fourteen, and he wasn't about to make himself a target again.

Bo splashed cold water on his face and reached for a paper towel. A pained expression greeted him when he looked at himself in the mirror, and he pressed the paper towel against his face, trying to erase it.

Bo sighed as he threw the paper towel in the trash. The hurt threatened to overwhelm him yet again, and he forced it down and let bitterness fill him instead. He stared at his reflection, watching as his facial expression hardened.

Bo had never had good control of his facial expressions, and he marveled at how this particular expression hid his inner turmoil.

Fine, if Aless had a date to the Homecoming dance, Bo reasoned, he would get one too.

first impression was exactly of her as a sweet woman that deserved so much better, and overall a great mother! nowadays I have some mixed opinions regarding motherhood and vesta (don't get me wrong, she LOVES her son, she's doing the best she can in the situation they are in, but nowadays I think she may not be as perfect of a mother as me myself used to think of her to be and definitely was going through things that didn't make her able to be an emotional support) and also in my head I ended up giving her more of a sharper, more extroverted personality + her kindness and sweetness being also a tool of survival in the capitol, not only her good nature

21. If you're a fic writer and have written for this character, what's your favorite thing to do when you're writing for this character? What's something you don't like?

I love making vesta an extroverted and just a person with a very bubbly personality (well, at least before them moving into the capitol, because I definitely think her personality died down a bit because of the environment they were in)! in modern aus, to me she gives old catholic lady, so love portraying it as well!

regarding the fandom I HATE when people DON'T GIVE HER A PERSONALITY. OR IN GENERAL MAKE HER STUPID. that woman was married to STRABO PLINTH, OF ALL FORSAKEN PEOPLE, and plus there's a LINE where she told coriolanus that she was extremely worried abt what the capitol could do to sejanus after the arena incident (and coriolanus' mind goes "why would she be more worried about the capitol than the tributes in the arena?"). she KNEW the dangers her and her family were in, she KNEW how people saw them, and it's frustrating to me people buying into coriolanus' views of her being pathetic and stupid, and (consciously or not) portraying her as such in fanfics. another thing that frustrates me is when ppl reduce her solely to mother or cooker role, and it's even more frustrating to me when ppl do this bc (imo) ma plinth is very clearly coded as a woc in the book... it's just yikes to me, it doesn't sit well with me.

In addition, this Crack!AU will tell you the compelling story of how a bunch of delinquents “accidentally” stopped the Hunger Games from continuing, just because of a certain Mentor’s ✨nepotism��.

MORE or less, most of the characters in the book are the same when it comes to their personalities and backstories. Well, except for our Mentors. They’re a bunch of crackhead Capitol kids with too much fun and stress on their hands. They even almost made Dean Highbottom and Dr. Gaul quit their respective jobs.

ALSO, these young walking disasters are not “all there” in the head. Heck! Half of them went crazy years ago because of the infamous 2 year Capitol Siege by the rebels that almost starved them all to death. Just ask Coryo Snow and Persephone. The Mentors trying to convince the School Board Members, the Government Officials, and crazy President Ravinstill to change the 10th Hunger Games into a non-deadly talent show to increase viewership and sponsors.

Moreover, Coryo strongly defended the proposal by having Lucy Gray successfully sing in front of a live audience (again) on TV. Billy Taupe was the only one who got offended (again).

Meanwhile, the rest of the Mentors also convinced their Tributes to show off their talents that same day. That was Reaper’s 2nd worst day of the week.😂

Dean Highbottom only supported the proposal because it reminded him of his wild karaoke clubbing days with his drop dead gorgeous lover. You know who it was.😏 #Crasca4Ever #crassusmylove #SnowBottom

Clemensia Dovecote also backs their weird essays by simply stating that killing children will only make the Districts hate the Capitol more. However, if they provide “real entertainment” without the violence, then the Districts might warm up to them.

In addition, Sejanus proposed that the winner of the contest will be made a ✨STAR of PANEM✨! 🤩

And as the ✨Star of Panem✨, he/she will be given monetary support and a lifetime supply of cabbages and lima beans by the Capitol.

Meanwhile, the losers will only get 10 boxes of pizza, 2 gallons of orange soda, one body bag of sandwiches (made by Ma Plinth) as a reward for “willingly” participating.

Juno Phipps then added a “rule” stating that no Tribute shall be punished (or killed) because the losers must live and remember their humiliation on television for the rest of their lives.😈

Coryo and Clemmie also proposed that each Tribute must have a Prep Team and Stylist to make them presentable for Lucky Flickerman’s Late Night Show with Jubilee.

Finally, Felix Ravinstill and Dennis Fling closed their arguments by stating: “That being forced to sing and perform ON STAGE and on LIVE TV, which could be replayed over and over again, even after death, especially for Tributes who couldn’t save their own pride and dignity for all of Panem to remember, is the worst punishment one could freely give to one’s enemy. They won’t even be allowed to forget how they had wronged you.”

After hearing the Mentors’ closing argument, Dr. Gaul was ready to end it all and commit bloody murder in front of everyone.😡🔪

But after some deliberation, President Ravinstill (and his puppies) approved the Mentors’ proposal and changed the Hungers Games into the ✨HGASC✨ (Hunger Games: Annual Singing Contest).

However, the Grandma’am and Strabo Plinth insisted that they should just officially call it ✨PANEMVISION✨.

Meanwhile, Dr. Gaul tried to persuade President Ravinstill (again) to reconsider the Mentors’ stupid proposals.

However, she was outvoted by both the School Board Committee and the Capitol’s highest ranking government officials, just because everyone (but her) wanted to see what “true entertainment” really looks like on screen.

Livia Cardew even defended everyone’s ideas nonstop because, according to her, there was a lack of spicy entertainment in the Capitol. Damn the rules! This is the Capitol! We want ✨Love Island✨ type of dramas! Where are the ✨Real Housewives of Corso✨?! F*ck the Hunger Games! Give us the 90 Day Fiancé from the Districts!

And that’s how the Mentors “accidentally” ended the Hunger Games and gave birth to the most popular and craziest reality TV show in the weird history of Panem.

As for every Quarter Quell, let’s just say, it’s gonna be a true ✨SHOW STOPPER✨!

The first ✨HGASC/PANEMVISION✨ Quarter Quell will have the Mentors reap kids from both Capitol and District. Afterwards, one District Tribute will be paired with one Capitol Tribute to perform a special duet act (whether they like it or not).

i'm never going to write this fic myself but ahh i just need to put it into the universe and hope theres some dramione fic writer who is already working on this idea.

let me map it out for you starting with the basics, and how certain aspects of hp could be changed to fit this hunger games dramione au.

coriolanus is our draco, aside from the physical features the two characters share (if you saw the trailer for the movie, you get it), we've got the aspect of both draco and coryo being self-serving, almost obsessive, their desire to maintain appearances and his general kissassery.

lucy gray is our hermione. this one is a bit less of a direct translation in terms of personalities - but we're changing the pureblood/muggleborn aspect to capitol/district. hermione in some dark fics is written as more of a hopeful ray of sunshine and that would work here

sejanus, was the one that inspired me to think of this au idea in the first place. if you read manacled, there's certain similarities between harry potter and sejanus plinth - both are brave and want to do good, but in both stories go about trying to bring change in the most foolhardy ways.

the slytherin kids and other hp characters like ernie mcmillan, cho chang etc as coryo's classmates in the capitol. marietta of course, as Clemensia to mirror the way she is also scarred in canon

billy taupe is ron - now i love ron, but this works best with the idea of old dramione fics with their ron bashing, especially when you can have mayfair as lavender

playing a bit more with hp family dynamics, i'd change the covey's to be the weasley children (basically i'm just destroying the whole weasley family and for what?), with maude ivory as ginny

ma plinth as molly weasley - good food

strabo plinth as lucius malfoy - yeah i know im breaking up lucius/narcissa and arthur/molly but it works with the characterization

these last two characters are a bit tricky, and i need you to stick with me for this. instead of having crassus snow be lucius malfoy - i would actually have grindelwald be draco's father. why? so that we can have the canon aspect of the grindelwald - dumbledore relationship in coryo's father and dean highbottom. i know it would be more intuitive to have dumbledore as a rebel leader but idk this dark dramione au aspect demands a dumbledore thats kinda broken down

The Secret Life of Ma Plinth

Sejanus paused, new thoughts entering his mind. He couldn’t stop himself from asking the question that had nagged at him since he had learned about it the day before.

“Ma, did you grow up…like Coryo?” The implication of Sejanus’ words hung in the air like a dark cloud.

Ma removed her hand from his, taking a blanket from the couch and wrapping it around herself. “I did.”

“So, you didn’t have enough…food?” He tried to get her to elaborate.

“We didn’t have enough of anything, Sejanus,” she said as her face tightened, her gaze intense and unwavering.

Sejanus tried again. “But I’m sure it wasn’t like your parents chose to be poor-“

“My parents consistently made choices that only made all of their children’s lives harder,” she interrupted tensely, and Sejanus felt discomfited. “Especially mine.”

Sejanus could tell she didn’t want to tell him more, but he couldn’t help his curiosity; he needed to know.

“Why did you file for emancipation, Ma?” he asked bluntly.

Alessandra stared at the space just behind Sejanus, her face blank as she replied tersely, “I didn’t have any other choice.”

Alessandra Plinth became an emancipated minor at the age of 16, later inspiring her son's boyfriend, Coriolanus Snow, to do the same. This is her story, starting with a quick prologue.

She stared at the ground, her hands fidgeting with the edges of her uniform skirt, which he realized was starting to fray. “I don’t have any money for lunch.” “Did you forget it at home?” She shook her head, “I’ve never had any lunch money, Mr. Flint.” Mr. Flint blinked as he started to put the pieces together. “Alessandra, when was the last time you had something to eat?” he asked gently. look, I love animal codings, but I can't help but strongly disagree with the idea of sejanus being dog coded. the reason is because I simply think people get dogs wrong (saying this as someone who's a dog person to her core). yes, they are loyal, but they are loyal solely to the ones they choose. the ones they appreciate. have you tried to pet a protective dog near the one who's their owner, the one they protect? a dog will bite and snarl if it is to protect the ones they love. dogs are the type of animal who'll let the world burn if it means getting the ones they love safe, and they are not afraid to do so. therefore, I don't think sejanus is a dog coded character. it's not only about loyalty.

the posts about the plinth family being so immigrant-coded and the districts speaking English as a second language had me thinking about sejarcus reunion. Like imagine sejanus trying so hard to connect with Marcus by speaking d2's native language, but sejanus is rusty because he left when he was 8 and didn't have much practice speaking the language in the capitol. I imagine strabo would try to ban the language in the home after moving to the capitol to force the family to assimilate. and so sejanus can really only speak the language with Ma when strabo isn't around to yell at him for it. And when sejanus speaks to Marcus in d2's language, he's trying to be like, look even though I moved to the capitol, I'm still district at heart! I'll never be capitol and I hate what the capitol is doing! But since it's been so long since he's spoken the language, he's shaky and it comes off more as him forgetting his culture, his roots, his language, and assimilating into the society of the oppressor. just something about sejanus basically being a 1.5 generation immigrant who will never fit into the new country/place nor the old country/district </3 and how people from the native country sometimes look down on the second gen or 1.5 gen for not being fluent in the native language of the country and see them as "not really *insert ethnicity*" because they can't hold a convo about the political and economic state of the world in the native lang. ok I don't think Marcus would be snobby about rusty language skills, but its like a further sign that sejanus isn't really district anymore no matter how hard he tries to present himself as such </3

the idea of sejanus going to the zoo that first day, and trying to speak to marcus (even tho coriolanus is giving sejanus side eye stare bc sejanus is basically shouting in whatever the hell he's speaking), but the flow of his speech is not the same, and he ends up switching some verbs, and it sounds a tad bit broken. and now marcus refused to even LOOK at him and sejanus feels horrible because he thinks of how ridiculous it probably was.

a boy from the academy, wearing that red uniform, surrounded by capitol people at the capitol, trying to speak to a district boy in broken district language. it sounds almost like mockery. it sounds like a capitol boy trying to pass as district.

(I don't think marcus would be snobby, but he would definitely be pissed off 😭)

then he comes back home, and begs his ma to help him practice, because he needs to speak with marcus, but he knows he doesn't sound as natural as when he was a child. and his ma helps him practice, and he actually gets less rusty, but it still isn't the same, he still sounds more like a capitol boy trying to pass as district than an actual district kid (the irony that in the capitol, he has a district accent, but speaking the districts' language, he has a capitol accent). and marcus still. doesn't. talk. to him. he refuses to do it, and all sejanus can think is that his language skills got so bad to the point maybe marcus can't even understand him anymore.

(marcus actually can understand him, it's just that there are other reasons)

also, this weighs a lot on the whole thing regarding not being able to fit in one place or another. other mentors would probably be annoyed or jealous that sejanus can actually communicate with his tribute properly. why are they all struggling while sejanus is there speaking effortlessly? but at the same time, for someone from the districts who grew up speaking that language, it's clearly not 100%, it's slow-ish and it doesn't sound completely natural.

he'll never be enough district, but will never be seen as capitol either.

🥺 I too need to reread 100 años de soledad but my God YOU ARE RIGHT. Its the same THE CONCEPT OF NAMES DICTATING THE FATE OF PEOPLE. To me it's such a powerful idea (amazing what your mom did, in my family 👀 they also gave a lot of weight to meanings and in fact my brothers were named after gods from Mexica mythology -I wish that would be me-) and it has so much logic too. Literally a name defines the way you interact with the rest of the world and can greatly impact the way you relate to it, it's the first step in building identity!!!!!

And yes. You hit the nail on the head of what I was getting at. I think I will combine both ideas because it makes sense that Strabo would want to use the name of an ancestor of his that he probably respects and in this idea of continuing "legacy" at the same time I think he researched the history of the names he could choose from and opted for the one that in his opinion would best reflect the character he wanted in his son. Because that is another tragedy, I think Strabo did dream and wish for Sejanus.

I think there were two big factors in destroying Sejanus and Strabo's relationship from the beginning, first the miscommunication and then that Sejanus I think broke Strabo's heart in a way: he was born and he destroys his ilusions.

Strabo to me encompasses the very spirit of a very intelligent professor who cannot for his life explain things simply and clearly. He didn't know how to talk to Sejanus to get him to listen to him and I'm sure he always got the opposite of what he wanted.

The second thing is that Strabo had a very specific idea of what his son could be like and probably planned many ways to have a close relationship with this hypotical person (Shooting practice I think is an obvious example of an activity that Strabo planned not only to educate his heir in the business but to spend quality time with him) but his son is Sejanus. The worst combination between him and his wife. 

Ofc he was disappointed when Sejanus was more like Ma Plinth than himself. I guess it must have been a hard blow on his ego but personally I think it could have also been a kind of relief and he could have accepted it if Sejanus really was like his wife, at the end of the day, Strabo loved her but Sejanus doesn't have her apathy or passivity.

He has Strabo's stubbornness and fury and determination. And that to me is the crux of the matter, Sejanus is like Strabo, in his opinion in the wrong things. Where Strabo fought for his family and his ambition, Sejanus fights for strangers selflessly and for a better world in spite of himself.

These are ideals that Ma could have but not pursue, it is Strabo's willingness to pursue what he believes in but not his ideals. A disastrous combination, literally writing in stone that Strabo and Sejanus could not be the father and son Strabo once longed for.

They both resent each other because they failed each other, because they chose to be something that would separate them sooner or later. (Now OBVIOUSLY Sejanus has less AND NONE RESPONSIBILITY IN THAT because HE WAS A CHILD, he only grew up influenced by his parents and his context 🤣🤣 but I don't think Strabo would recognize that. He would think Sejanus somehow chose to be that way, just to drive him away forever).

Which brings me to WHY IT MAKES ME SO FERAL THAT STRABO WILL FIX THE REAPING.

I've seen an interpretation that I also like where Strabo doesn't explicitly pick Marcus, that's just destiny being terrible, he just buys Sejanus' position by mentoring a D2 tribute. And I like it for certain issues but even this slightly more harmless view doesn't take the weight off the monstrosity Strabo did.

Because even if Strabo didn't pick Marcus in particular, he still had to be aware that it could very likely be someone WHO SEJANUS KNEW. A child who couldn't be saved from that horrible fate, as Sejanus in theory was "saved" by him after his decision to move to the Capitol.

And is that I think I like to theorize that possibly that's where his motives went. Strabo believing that Sejanus needs a rude awakening, a child he knows and can remember and tell him explicitly "this could be you if your father hadn't taken you out of District 2." Maybe that's why it was actually Marcus the choose one, he was the only one at the time who didn't go by the horrible things everyone was saying about the Plinth and helped Sejanus.

Marcus encompassing that gentleness. Gentleness destroyed in the eyes of Sejanus. Strabo had no way of knowing that Marcus wouldn't say anything, maybe he hoped he would break Sejanus' heart, to show him that even his hope had turned into hatred and resentment towards the Plinth.

I tend to see it as a destruction of spirit in its purpose but I also thought if it was not a stretching of the limits of Sejanus to understand where he is capable of going, to measure the waters to see if there was salvation.

Because something very interesting is that when Sejanus goes to D12 he mentions that his father explicitly told him that he's not going to be happy there in the districts (or something like that, I should check it later ah) and more importantly lets him go despite believing that.

As if he's resigned to the fact that that's Sejanus. A boy who can't be happy anywhere.

It's possible Strabo anticipated a lot of reactions from Sejanus but I dare say he and no one expected that Sejanus ended to throw chairs and break screens let alone DO THE ARENA THING. THAT WAS SO FUCKING CRAZY but I think it made Strabo realize that he had "lost" his son forever.

It was non-negotiable his rebellion and his dream of a fair Panem. Strabo fought in the war against rebels. He probably met a lot of men like his son and saw them DIE.

He knows THAT HE SON WILL BE DEAD MEN ONE DAY. AND THAT HE WOULDNT CAPABLE OF BE HAPPY EVER EITHER.

About the parallels EVERLACK AND SEJARCUS, MY GOD THEY ARE SO OBVIOUS ONCE YOU NOTICE IT, IM GOING CRAZY, ACTS OF GOODNESS BEING PRECIOUS MEMORIES, MY BELOVED

I CAN'T UNSEE IT, MY GOD. What's worse is that after seeing that answer you gave about Ma and Strabo's relationship I thought of a very strange parallel between Katniss' mother and Ma, maybe one day I'll dig into that OR NOT?, WHO KNOWS. (I've also been thinking a lot about how a nephew of Strabo's family could have been chosen for the first Quarter Quell BUT THATS FOR OTHER WEEK PROBABLY).

By the way, is true!!! the D2 girl DID TAKE THE SANDWICH, Marcus not taking it could only have been his complicated feelings for Sejanus: GOD that fear of a person that maybe if he had stayed in D2 would have been his everything. Marcus and Sejanus haunted by the ghost of the relationship they could have had (platonic and romantic) and Marcus choosing not to break the image that exists in his memory of Sej because he is resigned to his death and does not know if he can bear that Sejanus COULD become the prophecy that everyone was telling him (SEJANUS IS A PLINTH, SON OF THE TRAITORS) 🙏

And speaking of Mitski, I think it's great how certain songs get identified within a fandom as THE SONG of a certain character but it's more fun when someone has new and different songs that reflect different aspects of the characters personality especially if it's a song in a language other than English, which literally rules the world. PLS WE HAD MORE LANGUAGES

I'M SCREAMING coriolanus was so the type of kid to watch all the kids telenovelas, and I KNOW all his favorite characters were the mean girls. he watched chiquititas, carrusel, carita de angel, ALL OF THEM, he was the type of kid to watch it almost religiously and then get to school to gossip about the chapter (and also he memorized every song lmao). plus, I can see baby coryo trying to convince tigris to rehearse las divinas song to show to their grandma while she's sitting looking at them (canon event in the life of every cousins who grew up together).

coriolanus is a little less worse here, so I can see him changing a bit after starting to hang out with lgb and sejanus (plus, lgb bullies him until he stops with it). tigris every single day having to sit and listen throught their nonsense and smiling and nodding like- 😃 someone help her pls. AND OMG I WAS ACTUALLY THINKING ABT, tigris' mom or dad being from uruguay ☝ (non-related, but I'll always have a soft spot for uruguayos bc my favorite football player from the team I root for is uruguayo lmao I was so sad when they didn't got past the group phases on the world coup, so ofc I'm happy with uruguaya tigris, that's my girl <3)

the latin-american urge to make your favorite character to be from your country, I get it perfectly 😭 but I just love boricua sejanus so much, it fits so much of his storyline and UGH. you read my mind because I was thinking EXACTLY about lucy gray being venezuelana (my second option was her being from colombia tho), and I can see it PERFECTLY

the idea of characters doomed not only by the narrative, but by their name- <3333 I'm in love with it, and even more in love how we can see it constantly in thg and tbosas. (your brothers being named after gods is SO COOL OMG) and yes!!! that's the way you'll be called for a good chunk of time, and it's no wonder some countries have some rules regarding names and their meanings, because it can impact heavily on a child's life (either if you believe that names have some impact on their destiny or not).

and absolutely yes: when you think in that way, that strabo probably searched about his name, that he bought baby stuff for the house, and that he wished for a son so much, it makes things so much more tragic. I think strabo was the kind of dad to idealize a child in his mind and then get disappointed when the child is born and isn't exactly how he imagined. he would try to do things he remembered dearly from his own dad and childhood (I imagine the shooting lessons to be something he remembered fondly from his childhood, at least), things he idealized, just for none of them to be compatible with his and his son's reality.

sejanus didn't even need to do anything to disappoint his father. he disappointed him just by being himself, and that's what hurts the most.

what you said about strabo pretty much not knowing how to get sejanus to listen is so true. he talks to sejanus is a language he understands: discipline. he's stern, he givers orders, and gets angry when sejanus doesn't listen, because when strabo was a child at least his dad was so stern and he just knew that he needed to obey and respect his pa without questioning. one of the biggest example of their miscommunication and problems on how to understand each other is that strabo thought it was a nice thing to teach sejanus how to shoot, because at least it was a thing he enjoyed doing with his dad when he himself was just a boy, but sejanus is heartbroken because he doesn't get WHY his dad can't do normal things other dads do to their kids. strabo is only gentle with him after regretting being too harsh.

when you said that sejanus is the worst combination between strabo and ma plinth I gasped because IT LITERALLY IS, you put it in words perfectly.

I don't think he would've cared that much if sejanus was just soft. he literally married ma plinth. it would be a disappointment, for sure, but not the worst thing in the world, he could live with it. but what actually kills strabo inside is that sejanus talks back. yes, he's sweet, yes, he's soft, but he won't shut up and just take things as they are. he questions them, he questions strabo. and that's what he can't swallow. he can't accept a boy that's pretty much a mirror of himself, too, except that for the wrong reasons: strabo would kill for the people he cares about, sejanus would die for the people he cares about, and strabo sees it and it drives him INSANE.

I kinda laughed bc I genuinely imagined strabo sitting there, annoyed at 9 years old sejanus because he was disagreeing with strabo and actually talking back, and strabo speaking to vesta like "he knows I hate it when he does it, he hates me and he's doing everything to make me hate him too" and vesta goes like "that's a child. he barely knows how to read." 🤡

there's this thing about the reaping, that it's very vague if either strabo just bought sejanus' mentorship for D2 and marcus was a very unlucky consequence, or if he straight up bought marcus being reaped. I, at least, always got confusing, because I never understood which one of the two options were the one (I personally choose the second one for angst reasons lmao). but either way, as you said, even if he didn't pick marcus in particular... it was still so fucked up, because sejanus grew up in that district. he was 8 when he left, and when you're 8, you're already old enough to remember some kids. and I agree with you!!! I think it was a lesson in his vision; "see? it could've been you", in a way to make sejanus grateful, in a way to make him scared but scared as in to go running back to his pa and apologize and just comply to anything strabo though that was better to the family. but instead, it did make sejanus scared, but he wanted to make a change. it didn't matter to him that he was safe from the games now, he wanted every other kid to be safe from the games, now more than ever.

as I said: if anything, he made sejanus radicalize even more lmao

if we go for the path that strabo chose marcus purposelly, he for sure thought it would teach sejanus a lesson as in to show him sejanus could NEVER have that life he envisioned. "see that kid that you held dearly in your heart? it doesn't matter anymore. you have to resign to your life now. that's it." also, you saying that it's also a way of strabo measuring the waters is so good!!!! and yes!!!! at that point, strabo just gave up on trying to "help" sejanus. if it was on another occasion before the whole thing in the arena and the 10th games, I could see him forcefully impeding him from going to D12, but no, strabo doesn't do anything. he just let him go.

(let him go to his grave, after so many years of trying to save him and just hurting sejanus even more.)

I think that strabo didn't know how much marcus meant to sejanus. I mean, he knew he was important, and if we consider that he got marcus purposelly on the games, then for sure he knew what he was doing... but what I mean is not to this degree. sejanus may not know how to keep his mouth shut, that's true, but he's mostly sweet. him throwing that chair was a big surprise. and then sejanus tried to basically kill himself getting inside that arena, with 0 intentions of getting out. he really pushed sejanus to his limits by this.

and OMG IT HITS SO HARD, the idea that he knew boys like his, and he saw these boys dies, I'm screaming crying throwing up right now

I think that's just this what I was thinking about :')

I saw that post of "damned by the name" and I agree the line hits hard. That makes me wonder what the choice of Sejanus' name must have been like. It may be a family thing (My grandfather was named that...) or I can see Strabo making a conscious choice because the Roman Sejanus ascends socially, was a prominent general and possessed traits he prized such as ambition and perhaps before our baby boy was born Strabo was ready for Vesta to give birth to a fearsome reflection of himself. Ah I digress

I'm on a discord where they usually make the recurring joke that the movie is President Snow's propaganda and honestly I'll start to consider it canon because leaving out the Plinth precisely was getting rid of the worst crimes Coriolanus committed.

yes!!! doomed by the name hits so hard because it reminded me a lot of cien años de soledad, which I've read like some months ago, and the trope of characters not being able to escape the fate that their NAMES carry is so powerful (and so common too, actually; my mom has this thought that names are more powerful than what we think, so she actually searched up mine and my sister's meaning, just to be sure). now, I personally think that sejanus' name came from before him (if I had to guess, a grandfather), but the idea of strabo searching up the meaning and being pleased with it bc of the story behind it. (also, it's heartbreaking the idea that strabo was probably excited for having a son, but he had this very specific idea of what he wanted in a son, and as the years passed by, sejanus got more and more soft, and strabo more and more disappointed, and just UGH)

PLSSSSSS they're so right 😭 you know when at elementary school in history class we usually get the more censored version of brutal historical things that happened? to me that's what the movie is. I was very annoyed at how coriolanus' character got so much better, but not because of him being better himself, but because every other single character got toned down or just straight up got worse than in the book. I mean, clemensia? lysistrata? sejanus? even tigris I feel like they toned her down a bit. the feeling I got, at least, is that coriolanus was made much more likeable than he is in the books, and not only regarding the fact that we don't have his internal monologue, but also because toning down the other good characters, he doesn't seem that bad actually. and again, removing the plinths didn't make explicit how FUCKED UP it was what he did (it rlly reminded me of the song brutus yk, "I don't want what you have, I wanna be you", and plus, the fact that in the book he mocks how sejanus calls his mother ma just to then he himself call her ma after getting her son dead is SOMETHING ELSE)

the sandwich scene is the most remarkable regarding this, because coriolanus taking the sandwich himself to the zoo (and in the movie it being HIS idea) made the purpose of the scene so different than what it was meant to be. coriolanus in the movie is almost sweet to me.

CORIOLANUS IS SO DENSE SOMETIMES 😭 it's the way he'll actually do something smart to then think the most stupid assumptions about lg or sejanus. like, are you getting just now that sejanus' loyalty is with his district and the people he left back home in D2??? coriolanus being jealous over marcus is really something I wish the fandom explored more, there's so much potential for that possessive pathetic man ☝️ especially because it doesn't matter if coriolanus thinks so high of himself, because marcus and sejanus have a conection he'll never have: they're from the same place. they shared the same culture and traditions and that's something coriolanus can really never get to compete at because he simply CAN'T and it would make him foam.

AAAAAA OKAY SO, I have read so many interesting threads and posts about their parallels, but my favorite one is the fact that the first time katniss met peeta was when she was a child and she was hungry, and peeta left the bread behind so she could eat it. they never talked before, and they never talked again until the games, but katniss held this memory with her. it have been so much time, but peeta was kind to her, and he was a boy she never met who was still kind and it marked her enough for her to remember him after so many years. and this DRIVES ME INSANE because it's almost the same storyline we see with sejanus and marcus, and I wonder if it was on purpose or what.
