Thinking about Corin as transmasc bc of course I am. And like. It works. All his issues(tm) line up very well with being trans.
But also there’s no way Magnus Cadence would allow/accept a trans kid. Like. Even if those who take after Wyd are like. Commonly accepted. Magnus is the kind of bitch that would be an asshole about it.

the thing that's weird about dnd gnomes is that they're described as rare and secretive, their communities hidden and disguised from outsiders as a form of defense
and the thing is that's all well and good, except that even by RAW dnd tends to operate on a lot of 'it's basically like now with a ye olde hat, don't worry about it too much' basis wrt to the production and distribution and availability of goods and materials, and the thing about THAT is that I'm actually usually fine with handwaving Fantasy Globalization for the sake of ease-of-use as a ttrpg backdrop EXCEPT that it's hard, at least for someone like me, to handwave past something like 'if these villages are hidden and secret then where are they getting all their stuff'
#to be clear: I'm viewing this as an interesting worldbuilding question/ challenge rather than an outright problem#uh unlike the one campaign setting I'm in where the DM made a point to claim that canonically none of the cities did trade with each other#which like. bud I didn't care about supply lines and the economy even a little bit before but NOW I have QUESTIONS--#anyway. point is gnomes are NOT explicitly without any contact to other peoples and there's no reason to think they would be#but 'how do you maintain active trade lines while also keeping the exact location of your city a secret from enemies' is a valid question#I imagine many warrens have strongly allied communities nearby-- most likely dwarves for rock gnomes and elves for forest gnomes--#who could act as a contact point for other traders in either direction#alternatively: gnomes are peaceful and friendly and usually only need to lock down against like. goblin raiders or other non-local threats#so villages are well hidden but don't really have to be strictly secret per-se#funny enough I'm actually thinking about it because I HAVE been in Satyr Mode (nerd style) thinking about what food they'd have available#bscause nyssa's flock actually ARE almost entirely self-sufficient and with no formally structured outside contact#so I've been thinking about what they'd have just from their own climate/ habitat plus magic plus sporadic gifting or trading#but satyrs are super primative. like they're naked in eden their outside goods are only like.... knife. jewelry.#I've been contemplating grains#but by contrast gnomes often push into anachronistically advanced and you can't really do that in a Tiny Completely Self Sufficient Village#you GOTTA be in trade with other peoples! self sufficiency is nearly impossible and highly impractical ANYWAY#even if you AREN'T doing steampunk shit inside a hollowed out tree#the satyrs (mostly) get away with it by having fey magic and not using technology much more advanced than metal tools other people gave the#very unusual case and still needs more advanced nearby friendly peoples for it to work how I want it to#worldbuilding#gnome stuff

The more I think about it, the more I like the idea that electricity and similar things studied by science is magic.
#any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic#except our technology is already indistinguishable from magic

how did you like skypiea? it’s one of my favorite arcs and i always love seeing how other people feel about it after they read or watch it for the first time
I think it was a lot of fun!! I liked so many aspects/character moments of it that if I started to list them I would probably write 2/3rds of all the plot points. Obviously (vague) spoilers from here;
but I especially loved Robin getting her anthropology/archeology moment and Chopper protecting the ship, as well as the importance of verth to both sides and that conflict, and the "Sky Warfare" as a concept.
I think Dials are ridiculous, having basically magic seashells that can do anything but each one does only one specific thing and construction density clouds that are carved into whatever is. Certainly a thing that Oda did. But the idea that people would use these things meant to be helpful tools and make devastating and, to the uninitiated, unfathomable attacks/weaponry with them is so True about the way stuff gets used. There's lots of good social/political commentary going on while the going merry crew members are so wonderfully concerned about one another being okay and Luffy is stuck in a snake.
Also dog knocking itself out on command was funny.
#this is one of few “sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic” where the advanced tech does just feel like magic#also going merry?? more like going through it. holy shit that poor boat.#one piece#skypeia spoilers

“Any sufficiently advanced science is indistinguishable from magic” -> “any sufficiently understood magic is indistinguishable from science”
#physics#electricity#magic#any sufficiently advanced science is indistinguishable from magic#any sufficiently understood magic is indistinguishable from science#the second one is me unless somebody else has said it first#technically “science” should be “technology” but you get the point#🧇#adding the waffle just for my addition#and we use ancient dragon bones for fuel

I'm not saying that anointing my hands with road opener oil when getting ready to go out has solved all of my problems. I am saying that confirmation bias can feel pretty sweet when you get nothing but green lights on the way to your destination.

> In the beginning was the Sand.
>
> And in the sand there lies the bones of a fab. And within the fab there lies an alien. An angel. Our sweet alien angel that sleeps through the long night. When it wakes up it will bathe in an acid strong enough to kill a man. It will stare at its own reflection in floating droplets of liquid metal. In the shadows of a purple sun it spits blood thick with silicon onto the desert that shifts with the unreality of Sora sand.
