Imagine this four in a band.
But the guitarist (Hobie) and bassist (Haruka) always argue about sharing the spotlight and where the band is going creatively while the lead singer and synth player (Jinx) and drummer (Nimona) just hanging out and causing anarchy (like pranking each other or TPing a heckler’s house the person jumped on stage trying to cause some major ruckus which got them kicked out of the venue). Haruka leaves the band because of Creative Differences (but in reality she gets kicked out of the band she did some shit that even Hobie thought that crossed the line). Haruka’s absence prompt’s the band to replace her with this dude.
But turns out he’s not a good bass player at all but they kept him because he is a good rhythm guitarist so the whole band + Chai decides to perform without a bass guitarist. After a night, the band decided to celebrate in a bar (Nimona and Jinx just turned legal adults so Hobie why not have them get their very first drink of beer with their consent) after a first good live show without Haruka. While they’re enjoying their food (with Nimona and Chai arguing if pineapple is good on pizza while Jinx is egging them on) this woman came in wanting to join the band.
She explained to them how she liked their performance during the show and how they would need a bass player. Hobie hesitant at first asks Marceline to perform in the stage (because it’s an open mic night at the bar) to see how she good really is. And she did, she went on the stage and performed I’m Just Your Problem, a song she wrote after a really bad breakup with her college girlfriend for 5 years. Hobie really impressed let her join the band. There is now 5 people (Jinx in lead vocals and synthesizer, Hobie in lead guitar, Marceline in backup vocals and bass, Nimona in Drums, and Chai in Rhythm Guitar) in the band and they’re rocking out all over the world.
P.S. They also have a roadie and guitar who is this lady.
She doesn’t give her name to the band as she told them to call her The Player just because.
There’s also this young woman.
Gwen is close friends with Hobie and occasionally plays drums with the band whenever Nimona is out of commission (usually injuries from one of her’s and Jinx’s hi jinx but she always gets back up better than ever). But she’s sadly not a permanent member because she has a band of her own in The Mary Janes (where she plays drums in) and she’s in college and the band knows that they can’t replace someone like Nimona because they pretty much care about her.

Commission of the player from Sunset Overdrive (The boxart design) and a resurrected Fizzie, making use of a Fizzie balloon and a Fizzco robot for parts.
They're prolly just having a casual conversation with no Foe-Yay undertones at all. Prolly about the weather I dunno.

For people who don’t know the game here’s a quick synopsis :3
Spoilers of course for the game but here’s a quick read if you want a lil context for who Fizzie is and where he’s from ;3
What is Sunset Overdrive and who is Fizzie?
Sunset Overdrive is a video game that takes place in a town undergoing an apocalyptic mutant takeover.
The plot of the game is that the company Fizzco (a company that is basically a monopoly on everything like Disney and cokacola) is releasing a new and untested energy drink. Overcharge!
Only problem is that the ingredients in the drink cause its drinkers to mutate into mindless monsters called OD. Whoopsie.
So your player character must survive while traveling the now quarantined town of Sunset City while helping the other surviving groups and trying to escape. Meanwhile Fizzco is trying to clean up its mess via sending robots to kill everything in the town.
Fizzie is the mascot of this company and the main ai that runs it. You first meet him in his giant balloon form where you have to fight him to disable a transmitter so you can use it for yourself. And at the end of the game in order to try and stop Fizzco from automatically sending out Overdrive to the world you have to fight him again while he’s in control of the main headquarters of Fizzco.
Fizzie was designed by a focus group of robots. An ai made by ai. This had led to an erratic sort of personality. As the mascot of the company his main directive is to sell overdrive even though he knows it mutates people. He acts friendly to potential customers but hates people who don’t drink his soda as programmed. He was originally designed with empathy but it was explicitly turned off due to him becoming aware of the horrors he causes. He loves swearing.

Hi-Fi RUSH
Hi-Fi RUSH stormed onto Game Pass as a surprise announcement back in January 2023, filled with stylish characters and awesome musical hack and slash gameplay. Players take control of Chai, wielding their musical power against an evil corporation and taking the world by storm to the beat of the backing track. With a talented voice cast, an incredible original soundtrack and a wonderfully chaotic story, there’s no way to play this one and stay in a bad mood for long!
Everything in Hi-Fi RUSH moves to the rhythm, from enemies to HUD elements, meaning you always feel in-tune with the rockin’ energy. It’s such a terrific looking game too - the bright colours do an incredible job of building the game’s sense of rock and roll atmosphere. Pulling off jam combos and parries makes you feel like a real hero, and it’s amazing how well the hack n slash gameplay blends with the music as you play. In some ways, this one reminds me of Sunset Overdrive - a superb platforming romp with wacky characters and a soundtrack cooler than an ice cube.
Unfortunately, there’s one more way that Hi-Fi RUSH resembles Sunset Overdrive - it’s probably never going to get a sequel. Despite rave reviews, Tango Gameworks was closed down last May, another casualty in the waves and waves of layoffs to sweep gamemaking studios. Still, we can have a little hope - back in August, publisher Krafton picked up the IP and the remains of Tango Gameworks in a surprise acquisition. Whilst there’s been no news since, perhaps 2025 is the year?
Pros:
• Every character is incredibly charming
• Grade system encourages you to experiment and switch up your attacks
• Just so stylish it’s unbelievable
Cons:
• A few of the enemies are just plain annoying to fight
• Heartbreaking lack of sequel potential

I Like to Move It, Move It - Five Games With the Best Movement
Can’t stay for long, got places to be! Something as simple as just moving around is surprisingly tricky for video games to make enjoyable - it can often be slow, clunky, twitchy, or just boring. Then, there are the games that do it right; whether they introduce unique mechanics, feature a variety of mobility options, or just really nail the basics in a way that feels satisfying. Reaching high speeds for the adrenaline rush, executing a complex manoeuvre a hundred times until it’s second nature, or just roaming around enjoying the feel of exploration - sometimes, the movement alone is the best part. Get a move on with these five games I’ve collected here that feature the best mobility and movement mechanics!

Spider-Man 2 In a game about everyone’s favourite web-slinging wallcrawler(s), getting Spider-Man’s distinct movement style right is crucial - and Insomniac Games nailed it. Swinging through Manhattan feels incredibly satisfying and realistic as the city whips by you, and the physics of the Spider-Men have real dynamic weight to them so you can build up speed with short rapid swings nearly brushing against the roads or reach the highest rooftops with longer, slower arcs. The sequel introduced web-wings for gliding on the winds, and other new tricks like slingshotting yourself across the city or using abilities in midair to gain height and momentum. Thwipping from one end of the city to the other to chase after criminals or violent mutated scientists gives a huge adrenaline rush; it’s a sign of a perfectly-executed movement system when it’s actually more fun to manually swing around instead of using the slightly-quicker fast-travel points.

Wavetale Behold, a game with actually enjoyable water movement. Skating across the ocean surface in a flooded post-apocalyptic shanty town in Wavetale is just as creative as it is fun, building up speed as young Sigrid skims around, diving under and leaping out like a supercharged dolphin, and grappling onto hooks for massive speed boosts. Zooming around the waters from one corner of the map to the other, Sigrid can even outrun boats chugging along as she dodges the creepy shadow monsters threatening the town of Strandville! There’s pipes and funnels dangling above the waves to use as waterslides, launching you across the sea and keeping up your momentum - perfect for the challenging races that put your coordination to the test on lightning fast obstacle courses that snake around the drifting houses and shallow islands. For extra challenge, the game’s gigantic bosses will keep you on your toes as you duck and weave on the waves around their attacks that rain from above.

Super Mario Odyssey Mario’s jumping talents get an overhaul in Odyssey, adding loads of fancy new moves and tricks to learn in this sprawling open-world adventure. His new companion, Cappy, allows for stylish leaps and bounces from one end of the kingdom to the other as well as “capturing” just about any creature Mario encounters. Capturing things transforms Mario into the target, granting unique abilities for even more new forms of movement - stretching into the air, blasting over the water, jumping over high obstacles, and dozens of other powers. It’s highly satisfying to master all of Mario’s moves and being able to sprint, roll and dive at Mach speed with perfectly-executed button combos. Speedrunners and players that really learn all the movement techs are rewarded with hidden coins and other goodies stashed away on seemingly impossible to reach areas, accessible only to those able to clear enormous gaps and scale sheer walls with expert timing and coordination.

Sunset Overdrive Enter the high-energy “awesome-pocalypse” with a city hand-tailored for jumping, sliding and parkouring all over it. Sunset City has been overrun by the OD - aggressive mutants caused by a radioactive energy drink - and only a small handful of stubborn survivors remain in the locked-down city to enjoy the chaos. In SSOD, the player is constantly on the move from one jump to the other - bounce off that fan into sliding down a powerline into grinding along a handrail into bouncing off a car hood followed by dashing over a slobbering mutant and onto the next fan to bounce off, and repeat in a nigh-infinite chain of possible routes across the city. As you move, you’ll be blasting away at the hordes of OD, earning style points for fighting while performing sick tricks throughout the colourful mayhem. There’s precarious platforming and obstacle courses that take you high into the sky surrounding the tallest towers - don’t look down! The city also features replayable challenges scattered around for those that really want to test their mobility skills, parkouring across the chaotic cityscape as fast as possible.

DOOM Eternal In the fiery arenas of DOOM Eternal, movement is key and staying still is death. Double-jumping, dashing, climbing and swinging through the air, Doomguy treats the devastated Earth and the plains of Hell as his own personal playground! The developers compared the movement in Eternal to flying a fighter jet, constantly dashing and weaving through enemies and their attacks - the demons can’t hit what they can’t see. The new Meathook attachment to your trusty Super Shotgun allows you to zip across the battleground, latching onto some poor demon on the other side of the fight and pulling yourself towards it to deliver a face-full of buckshot. Eternal features a higher emphasis on platforming compared to previous DOOM entries, with many levels consisting of winding obstacle courses with combat encounters in-between all the jumping and climbing. Staying on the move as you blast through demons gives a huge adrenaline rush, feeling almost desperately aggressive as one mis-timed dash could be the difference between the demon’s death and your own.
Now that we’re up to speed on some of the best movement systems in games, which is your favourite? Got any other games that would fit the list? Let me know! Feedback, reblogs and likes are all much appreciated! Thanks for reading!

Since Xbox left the scene, and Insomniac still kicking with Spidey + Ratchet and Clank. All I'm asking for is Sunset Overdrive for PS4 and 5 or a sequel. Like Hi-Fi Rush into PS5. Like add new features for the PS5 in the og. And we could get Yuri Lowenthal back, he's the Male Player in Sunset and Peter/Spidey

movement mechanics:
rail grinding
mantling
dash/roll
bounce on objects around the map
electric wires as ziplines
wall run
I like these mechanics because they add a form of fun and flow to the game while keeping it at a similar pace to other zombie apocolypse games, I also feel that the mechanics help the player to traverse the world. all these mechanics suit the game well and I couldn't find anything about them that I didn't like. If I had more time I would like to implement some of these mechanics into my game.

Game Bytes: Sunset Overdrive
Sunset Overdrive is a 2014 action-adventure video game developed by Insomniac Games and published by Microsoft Studios. The game is set in 2027, in a fictional metropolis called Sunset City. The player controls an employee of FizzCo, who has to fight off the OD, short for Overcharge Drinkers: humans who have turned into mutants after drinking FizzCo’s energy drink beverage. In the dystopian…

Welcome Valued Customer!
What is this blog: The premise of this blog is that the player and Fizzie from Sunset overdrive have been isekai’d to the Pokemon world! Player remained human while Fizzie is now a mew!
Follow the story of these two (mostly fizzie let’s be honest) as they get up to all kinds of shenanigans in this new world!
As an ask blog you too can join these shenanigans and try to wrangle answers from them!
What to expect: •Expect plenty or swearing! •Potential blood and violence! •Breaking the fourth wall for stupid jokes! •Existential crisis! •Characters who are assholes! •Overall here to have a fun time! •Constant advertising for a soda that doesn’t even exist in this universe!
Do I need to know anything about Sunset Overdrive to enjoy or interact with this blog?
No! Though it will give you a better idea of the characters and potential things to ask them about, you don’t really need to know anything about the game to be here! Though of course spoilers for the game will be sprinkled about since it’s post game
What if I do want to know about the game context but don’t want to look it up?
Click HERE for a quick and brief summary of the game and how our darling Fizzie fits in!

You ever make a custom character that you actually find really charming and can't get enough of? For me, that's Insomniac Games' biggest achievement with Sunset Overdrive.
