malleus and silver both look basically identical to their parents but they were able to break the cycle of hatred and violence that their parents were trapped in, because they loved each other, because when they looked into each other's eyes neither of them saw the face of someone they wanted to hurt, instead they each saw someone they desperately wanted to protect, of someone who was like family to them, and they were able to stop fighting and use the power of that familial love to combine their magic and literally bring lilia back to life, and i'm going to lay down and cry now.

Okay what is up with Gerson saying this about the shadow crystal. Between this and the comments from Seam I think the shadow crystals must in some way be written into the prophecy. Gerson's whole deal is talking about how the prophecy is nonsense and you need to choose your own path. And if Seam knows about the shadow crystals and who has them because of the prophecy then there's something really weird going on.

A lot of chapter 4 really leans into the idea that the prophecy is deterministic, and even Gerson seems to be well aware of where the journey is going. Yet shadow crystals are not something you need to obtain to progress. In his fight he describes chapter six as "not yet being written", with the seventh being completely omitted. Toby himself even split the chapters 3-5 from 6&7. My current thoughts are that chapters 6&7 are going to be less deterministic than the others, and whatever goes down in the previous chapters will sudden come to fruition then. (I don't have any good screenshots of these bits of dialogue sorry)

The other thing to note here is that Seam says five crystals are needed to create something, which lines up with the idea that 6&7 is where the story starts to really diverge. I think the fact chapter 4 really leaned into the determinism, while equally going against it will be a significant feature of the story going foward, and coming to a head at chapter 6.

Another thing to note about the prophecy:

This is meat to be Susie in the prophecy. Not the prophecy as told by Ralsei, but as the dark world itself shows. She is only ever referred to as 'the girl' and is holding a sword. Kris too is only ever referred to in the prophecy as the soul or the human. I know someone else who I was talking to who thinks the Vessel was meant to be the human in the prophecy, but even if that isn't the case the prophecy doesn't seem to be going entirely as intended. It's particularly strange when you considered that both Queen and Lancer were mentioned very explicitly in the prophecy, although Asgore is also mentioned so this might be a lot of nothing. I have a whole separate theory that the titan appearing wasn't part of the prophecy either, but that isn't quite related.

Either way I think our choices will matter, and they are going to come to a head at chapter 6. Frankly none of our actions seem to have lasting consequences to the story, and even less when Ralsei and Susie are around (see snowgrave). Will be very very interesting to see where the story goes and what our choices do in the future.
