Identical twins who’ve had no one but each other for most of their lives, who’ve been a unit forever, until (spoilers) Lup gets trapped in a magical umbrella and Taako’s memory of her is wiped. He spent a decade feeling like a piece of himself was missing and he didn’t even know why, and she was forced to watch him suffer and try to protect him from inside the umbra staff as best as she could. They’re everything.

they're codependent and sweet and wonderfully angsty. the podcast has the line "you are my heart" from lup to taako, and the graphic novel has taako's "you stole half of my fucking heart." they're absolutely adorable and i wish they were more popular.

Dante/Vergil:

Twin half-demon brothers who are enemies but can never manage to actually kill each other. Vergil, the older twin, is always on some bullshit and Dante, the younger twin, has to stop him, but is always sad when he thinks his brother is dead. Canon quote: "It seems as if they derived some twisted pleasure from this brotherly fighting." The most recent game ends with them fucking off to the underworld for an indefinite amount of time (they're trapped there) and they are just fighting off demons while occasionally fighting each other, all smiling and shit.

Twins separated at a young age, believing the other to be dead they both went their own ways, one seeking power, the other one seeking to protect. They encountered each other again and again over the years, each time leading to a fight, each time Dante believes to have killed Vergil, be it on accident or on purpose. They reunite at the end of the last game, fighting side by side instead of against each other. Both of them are half demons, however, demons can't give birth to twins, making them a special case in many ways

So, I don’t usually go out of order for asks, but I really wanted to create a tutorial since I’ve had questions like this before!

Under the cut, I’ll go through the process of creating the last banner I made.

To start, the program I use is photoshop. I think it’s photoshop CS6, but I’m really not sure.

All of my banners, save for the very first one and the living organisms dni banner are all 100x500 pixels (100 tall, 500 wide).

I don’t mess with the resolution or anything, but here is what my presets generally look like:

After I create a new file, I pick out the background. I usually have a good idea of the colors I want for the banners, so I just type in something like [color] background. I will always use stock/vector images, free-to-use images or backgrounds from the media I am making a banner of.

For the Taacocest banner, I chose a red/green themed background from shutterstock.

And after taking a small snippet of it, this is what it looked like. 

Also, this is my general setup since I didn’t include it earlier. I like to keep the text styles and adjustments on there for easy access.

After putting that down, I threw up a transparent yellow layer on it.

After the background is done, I look for images.

I always use stock images, official art or screenshots. Unless I have permission from the artist, I will not use fanart. Since Takko and Lup’s whole thing is an umbrella, I grabbed a stock image of a silhouette of a closed umbrella.

I like to get stuff on contrasting backgrounds, because it’s easier for the quick select to pick up, and if it still fucks up I can easily erase the bits around the image.

From here, I copied the image, moved it around and colored it dark red.

I add text next. My go-to font is Franklin Gothic Demi in strong italics.

I usually add a stroke effect in at least 2 pixels wide. I also edit the color of the outline to look nicer with the text color.

Now, you’ll notice…. this currently looks much different from what the final banner looked like. That’s because the banner wasn’t quite turning out how I wanted.

My initial idea was to edit in two hands holding the umbrella together, but hands are difficult to silhouette in and the image was already really small. So I backtracked to step three (obtaining the images) and started over.

I decided to go with this stock image of two people kissing under an umbrella. I did what I did before with the closed umbrella: shrunk it down and colored it dark red.

After this, I added elf-like ears to the people and edited their silhouettes to be a little more ambiguous. Then I added the text back, but changed the font to Californian FB.

Annnnd…voila!

If you’re new to photoshop, don’t worry about having everything figured out immediately. It takes a bit of messing around with filters and styles and such to get the hang of it. If you have any questions, feel free to send in an ask or reply to this post!
