In my experience a similiar thing can be said for the Danish-english-dutch (flemish) triangle. (You've got Danish-swedish too, but I'm not swedish, so I can't give personal examples)

But once you get used to the specific way the Danes pronounce their words, it is really not hard to understand at all, considering a lot of their words were borrowed by the English. Add on top that I'm dutch, and my specific dialect is just danish sometimes. (German has a leg up in danish too, but again, don't speak German)

Some examples:

(English - dutch - my dialect - danish)

Plate - bord - taloor - tallerken

Strawberries - aardbeien - jerrebezen - jordbær

Jacket - jas - frak - frakke

A lot of the times I'm speaking to a Dane and they can't find the word in English, I ask them to just give it in Danish. 9/10 it's simply a slightly different meaning version of a word I know in Dutch. We often speak a form of Nedanglish because all the words end up flowing togheter.
