my favorite post-credit scene was when it was very clearly implied that smoke only let stack go in exchange for making sure their baby cousin didn’t get turned into a monster, and then went ousside and shanked the irish vampire bc one thing the juke joint family was NOT doing was selling off their baby cousin to remmick in exchange for their lives. bc at the end of the day, it was about preserving sammie’s future. it was about giving the children a chance to grow up. remmick wanted sammie to help him lure in more humans and thus make more vampires, but smoke wasn’t having that. on god, that white man was NOT touching sammie. forced vampire marriage CANCELLED 💀

I loved Sinners and Im obsessed with Smoke and Annie. I been in the tags tryna find Smoke x Annie discourse or fics. The few I have seen are so well written. However, what I find mostly is reader inserts. Thats also fine if thats what you like, but please do not pollute the “Smoke X Annie” tag with your reader insert fics.

Why are we using that tag if it has nothing to do with them?

Thats a cheap way to get your fics seen. There are more Smoke x Reader fics in this tag than Smoke and Annie.

Ok I got some serious head cannon for smoke and stack.

When they were babies, smoke was the crier and only stopped when Stack held his hand. When they were kids, Smoke was shy, so Stack did all the talking. That evolved into Stack Taking Care of Smoke for things he didn't have the bandwidth for like clothing himself of doing his own hair and Smoke protecting Stack.

YES! I've observed, that most people talk about the ways in which Smoke protects/takes care of and his dynamic toward his brother(which is fair, we see more of the film through Smoke lens) but I wanna talk about how Stack takes care of Smoke. I wanna explore more about Stacks Dynamic to Smoke.

We see that when they are together, Stack deferred to reading and responding accordingly to Smoke's signs. Stack reacts vividly and is quick to ease when he knows someone has poked the bear with his brother. He wants to get ahead of Smoke reaction if he sees the opportunity for de-escalation. Stack is the twin that is more in tune with the emotions of other and himself than Smoke. Stack is more in tuned to regulation or letting go of what's causing a response.

This could even be pointed out in how even tho BOTH twins went to war, Smoke is the one of them to develop tremors and is reliant on someone else for coping (Stacks rolls the cigarettes). (I have a headcannon that Smoke has probably had these emotional tremors since childhood as his version of shock after committing violence but there is a fic about that coming soon so I won't get too much into it lol)

You can even see this in how Smoke just utterly melts into Annie the moment he's held.

This isn't a dig at Smoke. I love his character, I've seen dynamics like this and can appreciate them hell even my own brothers are kinda like Stack and Smoke.

However, we see that Smoke even has less careful response of emotional regulation or care of the details of others. (Example: him pistol whipping Sammie or taking Sammie 'command' to shoot him serious) Smoke is very much a straight forward problem solver, he's more blunt. There is no need for emotional/empathic thought to drive decision making for him. And this is caused by always having someone by his side who is in charge of that sort of thinking (Stack and later Annie)

Smoke is the commander. Stack is the diplomat. They fully understand that about each other and require it from one another. Just as Stack needed Smoke to defend them from their father, have his back in the trenches and be the gun to his knife. Smoke needed Stack to roll his cigarettes, ease his mind, and cut his hair when his hands would shake.

Lord forgive me for paying attention to the YT comments section but I really want people who claim Annie was treated as a less 'desired love interest' than Mary to remind me which of them was told she didn't have any business being near them by both Micheal A and Michael B Jordan.

"Oh but Mary is shown to be the focus of desire and Annie isn't"

Are we forgetting that the first thing Stack tells Mary to do is kick rocks? That one of the first things we learned about their past relationship is that he left her in the middle of the night without any communication at all?

Yes Smoke also left Annie but that to me is representative of the fact that both twins always chose each other over either of their respective lovers, or anyone else in their lives. At the very least we know from the fact that he married her that Smoke considered Annie someone in his life, who was not Stack, that he could build a life with. She made him a mojo bag so it's not like Smoke left in the middle of the night.

And it's not like either twin is best friends with the other's lover but Annie clearly gets so much more consideration and respect from Stack than Mary does from Smoke. Smoke would clearly rather Stack and Mary never even have been together in the first place but even from (what was supposed to be) the opening night of the Juke we see Stack and Annie working together to manage Smoke and the business. Annie is being paid to cook there sure, but to me it's clear that she was always supposed to have a huge role in the business.

I'm not saying the movie is perfect or that people can't have their own opinions but even if we're appealing to the respectability argument- Annie is the only person in the main cast apart from Sammie with very little 'sin' on her record. For one thing she's the only woman of the three love interests who isn't cheating on her husband for whatever that's worth to folks in a movie called Sinners.

And even the comparison of the love scenes feels disingenuous to me. I've seen some people say Mary is the one shown to be desired between her and Stack while Smoke is shown to be desired by Annie and I want to remind everyone that again Mary is the person chasing Stack. He saw her that morning and said go back to your white husband. Annie and Smoke are reuniting as a couple that went through a horrible loss that can rip modern couples apart, without the additional stresses of being sharecroppers on top of that.

Additionally I don't think it's a coincidence that the love scene between Smoke and Annie happens before the sun goes down and the one between Stack and Mary - which I remind everyone leads to Stack dying!!- happens after nightfall and after Mary has already been turned by Remmick. Sammie and Stack both talk about that day before the sun went down being one of the best days of their life. Given the connection and parallels between the twins I would assume that the same would probably be true for Smoke.

So one of the best days of his life involved getting to reconnect with his wife. Getting to fold her into a business he and his brother were building not just for their own financial freedom and independence but also as a safe space for their community. A community Annie was a central part of.

One of those love scenes happened between a couple that had a real chance of reconciling if Remmick hadn't shown up and it's not the one featuring Mary.

I do believe Elliott behaves idiotic, it's just so hidden under his beautiful face. Like yes this guy is going out there doing stupid things with Shane, yeah this guy tripped walking home drunk, yes this is the guy who waters his plant with sea water by accident, he's broke because he spent all his money at the saloon (impulsive buyer, says he'll save up, but he sees food he started gobbling it all up)

And yeah this guy went fishing with Shane and Harvey for the fun of it, then he fell into the water and dragged the other two with him

And he tried using a smoke pipe once to be fancy, only for him to start coughing on the spot trying to impress you

These Smoke and Stack fics…

I just re-read some pages of The Fellowship Of The Ring and I don't get why so many people take issue with around-20-y/o Elijah Wood being cast. While Frodo Baggins is indeed canonically about 50 years old, the book specifically mentions how he looks like someone fresh out of his teens because he kept the One Ring for multiple years, which is known to keep their owner young and fresh (at least at the beginning until they rapidly age after getting rid of it) - not to mention that since hobbits age slower than humans, Frodo would only be in maybe his 30s. On one page we are being told that multiple people gossip and wonder about how young he still looks, including Gandalf. So if anything, you could say that Elijah Wood was too skinny or too attractive (though I do think he looks like Frodo is described), but not too young.

And I actually like that he looks young because it not only does it make him look cute and innocent, but we also get the notion of someone who has had a relatively quiet and happy, sheltered life before (aside from the terrible death of his parents) and of someone who is visibly sensitive and innocent and gets taken care of a lot. The BIGGEST reason I like his young looks however, is the parallel to young soldiers who are ripped out of their homes by outer forces, by older men who are the ones who started the wars. Young soldiers whose lives are practically destroyed before they even really begin, just like Frodo's - even if he's already half a century old. He comes back traumatized and sick/disabled having saved the world but having lost so much. Most likely his innocence too.
