of gifts and curses.
jinwoo sung x fem.reader
{ i see your face with every punch i take | and every bone i break, it's all for you | and my worst pains are words i cannot say | still i will always fight on for you… }
the coppery taste of blood had come to be something jinwoo was most accustomed to.
back when he was still a level-e hunter, nearly killing himself with each and every raid that he went on, the pain and agony of the gates he was subjected to nearly made him give up-
but he held on.
not just because his sister needed him-
not just because his mother was subjected to a permanent slumber-
but because he wanted to get stronger for you, too.
you were someone that became a constant comfort for him, spending your days tending to his wounds while helping him care for jinah during the times he was away risking his life during these raids. without fail, whenever jinwoo would go on these raids (and escaping them after barely surviving)-
you would somehow always find a way to greet him from the gate’s exit.
seeing your kind smile and the way you held out your arms for him, allowing him to slump against you in a warm embrace, his scrawny arms bringing your comforting form ever so closer to him as he allowed the tears to fall.
you would remain by his side, giving him cans of his favorite brand of coffee while replenishing his energy with all of his favorite snacks. and when his injuries became too dire, you would stay up with him throughout the late hours of the night, tending to his wounds to the best of your abilities.
your stable presence and belief in him was enough to make him confess his love for you, keeping you by his side in an almost selfish manner, since he knew that with the way he was now, there wasn’t a damn thing he could offer you-
but by some stroke of luck, you never seemed to care about the things he could not offer you, still loving him unconditionally despite it all.
jinwoo believed that he had truly found a soulmate in you, and surprisingly, he found himself not minding his weak self…
you had let him slowly begin to love himself thanks to the unconditional love you held for him.
he always believed that he could never change no matter how hard he tried-
yet such self deprecating thoughts all but disappeared into thin air when he was met with the double dungeons, one that made him realize what true fear was the moment he died-
and was given a second chance at life-
reborn into something far more powerful than what he could ever imagine.
it was through his newfound identity as the system’s sole player that he was able to break out of the chains that labeled him as the weakest in the world. when he was brought to the hospital and made the mistake of ignoring the system’s first request, the punishment for not completing the task in the allotted time-
it had sent him to another world surrounded by desert sand as he was forced to survive within its borders while escaping from the beast that dwelled inside the heart of the desert.
needless to say, jinwoo didn’t ignore a single quest like that ever again.
on top of how he was literally leveling up with each quest he completed, you still remained by his side, often taking turns with jinah when it came to visiting him at the hospital.
and despite how he never told you or jinah about the truth of his resurrection, it was clear that you could tell the subtle changes his body was going through. when you visited him at the hospital one late afternoon, bringing with you the lunch you had cooked for him, you would remain strictly by his side.
as if you were glued to him, you would cling to his left arm while he ate his ramyun, looking down at you with an amused expression before asking you, “what’s wrong?”
a cute little pout would paint your gorgeous features as you merely tightened your hold on him in response. “the nurses were gossiping about you… calling you hot… and i didn’t like them checking out what’s already been mine from the start.”
feeling amused (yet filled to the brim with love and affection for you) he leans down to press a kiss against your hair, all while silently promising to not only get stronger for his family-
but for you as well.
and he could not thank the system for making him into the man that he was today.
he had grown taller.
his face had lost its prior roundness, becoming more defined while his voice seemed to deepen with a newfound confidence, losing the prior meekness it once had.
the system had given him the gift of becoming a powerful mage; a necromancer that could turn each enemy he had slain into his own, obedient soldiers.
with every battle he’s faced-
and with every bone that he breaks, filling his mouth with the taste of blood as a grueling pain courses through him-
still he fought on, just for you.
you, who had never once left his side despite the growing darkness that was beginning to seep into his veins.
you, who remained blissfully unaware at how he had killed numerous men during the times he spent within each dungeon, secretly turning those who wished to harm him into his own personal shadow soldier-
(a feat that would always be kept as a secret from you.)
and it was during his walk home back to you that he could feel the exhaustion beginning to kick in. despite how his injuries were healed, his stamina had remained the same, remaining severely low as he struggled to remain upright.
jinwoo needed to see you again.
he needed to have you in his arms before pressing your body closer to his, allowing him bask in your warmth- in your light.
for what seemed like an eternity, jinwoo finally reaches your shared apartment, unlocking it while letting out a weak, “i’m home.”
his voice was a bit broken and cracked, but he immediately silenced himself upon seeing the television screen turned on, painting your sleeping figure settled on the couch in colorful hues as the shadow soldier he had assigned to you peered up at him with glowing, purple eyes.
jinwoo winks at his soldier, raising up a finger in a gesture that was meant to convey be quiet. he tiptoes closer to where you lay against the couch, taking the remote off the coffee table before shutting off the t.v. screen.
with his heightened senses, he was able to still see your form despite the complete and utter darkness, leaning down to hold you within his embrace as he carried you (bridal style) back into your shared room.
as he worked on laying you back down in bed, you stirred in your sleep while softly whispering his name, making jinwoo smile down at you in response.
“ssssh, it’s okay. i’m here now… and i’m not going anywhere.” he reassures you before getting into bed with you, basking in the way you seemed to know where he was while you gravitated towards him. your cheek was already resting against his chest, eyes never once opening when you cuddled yourself even closer to him, greedily basking in his warmth as your chest was pressed together in response, not even leaving a millimeter of space between your two forms.
jinwoo continues to stare blankly at the ceiling, mulling over his thoughts while massaging your scalp and running his fingers through your hair. in the dead of night, where the only movements were seen with the soldiers he had placed surrounding the parameters of the bedroom, he closes his eyes while murmuring your name.
“i love you… everything that i do- it’s all for you.”
you mutter something in your sleep, making jinwoo smile when he turns around to fully embrace you, pressing you tightly against his chest as he brought his lips to your forehead. after whispering of his love and devotion to you one last time, he closes his eyes and joins you in a peaceful slumber…
{ this gift is my curse for now… }
a.n. - yellowcard’s { gifts and curses } played on my playlist and i was hit with such feels that i had to write something for jinwoo 🥹

Different 11 - college hs
Harry's quiet, routine-driven life changes one weekend when he meets Y/N through a mutual friend at her party. She comes from a superficial, materialistic world with absent parents who believe money solves everything. Despite their differences, something clicks that night, and Y/N can't stop thinking about him.
Authors note: Hey everyone! I wanted to take a moment to thank you all for your incredible support. I’m currently 164 subscribers away from being able to cover my medical school tuition, which is a huge milestone for me. I’m not sharing this because I’m asking anyone to contribute more, but rather to see if you could help spread the word by reposting. ---> different masterlist <---
Harry was profoundly infatuated with her. He liked everything about her. He was fascinated by all her little actions, like how she fiddled with the pendant on her necklace when she was analyzing something or how she would stick the tip of her tongue out when she was carefully focused on a task.
Because of this, he wasn’t bothered when Ganesh scolded him upon arrival, nor did he care that he had to stay up later than usual to finish his work for the next day. It was all worth it because he’d gotten to spend time with her.
“Do you understand where I’m coming from?” Ganesh stressed, pacing around the dorm room. He had stayed up just to tell him off.
“Yeah.” Harry honestly had no excuse. He had gotten so distracted with Y/N that he’d forgotten about all the work he needed to catch up on. “Sorry,” he muttered, just wanting to get Ganesh off his back. Harry was only interested in texting Y/N and letting her know what a wonderful time he had spent with her. He also wanted some time alone to process everything and savor it.
“How was it?” Ganesh asked, pinching the bridge of his nose.
“Good.” Harry wasn’t one to share too much about his private life.
“That’s nice. Maybe we should go out for coffee with her sometime.” Ganesh had been raised by extremely strict parents who demanded nothing short of perfection. He didn’t understand his roommate's obsession with the girl. Ganesh could tell Harry had a promising future, and to him, Y/N was just a distraction.
“I’ll let her know,” Harry nodded, turning on his laptop and settling at the desk. He checked his phone as soon as he noticed Ganesh getting into bed.
Y/N let him know she was home and safe and that it had taken her a while to respond because she’d taken a bath. She fell asleep before he finished his work, holding her phone in the middle of sending a text, even after she had reassured Harry she wasn’t tired.
Harry couldn’t blame her. It had been a long day. He was tired too, but his thoughts about her kept him entertained. He couldn’t forget the way she looked at him, the way she touched him. It drove him crazy. In the middle of his organic chemistry homework, his pants were once again uncomfortably tight. Harry shifted around, but it was impossible to get comfortable. So, after much sighing, he decided to take a cold shower.
The water cooled him down; it wasn’t relaxing, especially since the temperature outside was almost below zero, but it was soothing. He shut off the water once he had calmed down, just in time to hear his phone ring.
“Where have you been?!” Mitch yelled loudly. He had been surprised not to see Harry in class.
“With Y/N,” Harry answered truthfully as he took some clean clothes from his drawer. He was drained and just wanted to end the call, but Mitch was his closest friend. However, Harry was exhausted, needed sleep, and had an entire day of class ahead.
“How was it?” Mitch asked with curiosity. He still couldn’t believe that his quirky, introverted friend was hanging out with one of the most desirable girls in college.
“I’ll tell you all about it tomorrow,” Harry sighed as he got into bed and turned off the lights. “I’m exhausted.”
“Deal.” Harry hung up and cuddled into his pillows and blankets.
People were chatting loudly, and the clinking of utensils against plates made the atmosphere even more chaotic. Harry was the first to sit at their usual spot and start eating. He was having carbonara pasta with some bread that wasn’t as bad as he’d expected. He just hoped his stomach wouldn’t disagree later.
“I just had the worst class ever,” Sarah sighed as she sat down at the table. “What are you reading?” She noticed Harry reading some printed copies.
“An article about a new medicine the FDA is trying out. It’s for my research class.”
“For next week? You’re really getting ahead.”
“It was due yesterday. I have to send my thoughts to the professor via email.” He had written to everyone, saying he had a family emergency, and because Harry was such a good student, all his professors had given him an extra day.
“You didn’t go to class? Where were you?” She asked as she stuffed her face with her favorite salad.
“With Y/N. We went out.”
“Where?”
“North Shore. To a drive-in.”
“That’s cute.” Sarah smiled, glancing over his shoulder as she spotted Mitch making his way to the table with a big tray filled with all types of food. “Did you tell her how you feel about her?” she asked just as Mitch sat down. “She’s not going to wait around.”
“It’s official,” he said casually as he annotated the corners of the article. Just as they were talking about her, he received a text from Y/N.
I’ve got a test to study for. Want to meet me at the library after lunch? I’ll see you in a few hours.
“Who are you texting, and why are you so smiley?” Vanessa had been Y/N’s closest friend since freshman year. They had met during pre-season. They weren’t as close as some other friends, but Y/N felt she could genuinely trust her, unlike the other girls she had met.
“Harry,” she replied, trying not to blush in the middle of class.
“When am I going to get the chance to meet him?” Vanessa had heard from others that her friend had started seeing someone on campus. “I hate this class,” she mumbled, typing something quickly on her laptop from the professor’s lecture.
“Are you going to the party?” Y/N whispered back as she tried to keep up with her notes.
“Of course. Is he going?”
“I think so. I’ll introduce you then.” Vanessa nodded as they quieted down and turned their attention back to class.
Y/N waved goodbye to Vanessa and the other girls as class was dismissed. She was excited to meet Harry and spend time with him, even if they didn’t speak much. She just wanted to be close to him. So, she headed toward the library, stopping at the coffee shop to pick up two lattes and a snack.
Y/N had some tedious neurology homework to do and needed to prepare for an upcoming test.
“What do you want?” she asked after settling at one of the tables closest to the door. Her laptop and planner, with its highly organized schedule, were out. She had started reading her neurology assignment when Brian rudely interrupted her. Y/N stared at the screen in front of her, not bothering to look at him after that night.
“I came to do homework, just like you.” He pulled a chair out and sat down. “What’s with the attitude?” Brian played college football and was an exceptional athlete. People worshiped him, especially this season, after he came close to winning a championship for the university. With great popularity came a big ego, keeping most people at a distance. In the beginning, his boldness and confidence had drawn Y/N to him, but that was before she saw his ugly side.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” she replied, playing dumb and trying not to feel intimidated by him. “I’m just doing work.” His hand came down hard on her laptop, shutting it closed.
“We need to talk. Hear me out,” he hissed, his patience wearing thin.
Brian Hill was a man who always got what he wanted, and he was willing to go to great lengths. And he wanted Y/N back.

The Vampyres--The Bones and Blood of the Book
Good news! I’m not dead and the book isn’t either! Just shambling slowly through the wasteland of the publication process. It’s been a bit since I last waved this bloody morsel around. So, consider this a progress report on the state of the novella, the prospective publishing options, and a few other questions that have been bouncing around in the inbox.
EDIT:
I have a website now! For some reason.
It's See Arcane Scribbles.
Smaller Edit:
Got a Spotify too for story soundtrack goodness:
COVERS
First things first—and the first part of a finished book is the cover. Here are some mockups I’ve been juggling, starting with the original placeholder. They’re far from perfect, but I’m proud of what I managed with a fairly skinny graphic art skill set.

FINISHING, FORMAT, AND FINANCE*
*(OR, THE HEADACHENING)
Copyright: Technically speaking, you have the copyright to your own writing once you put it to paper or screen. But this is somehow a different thing from a legally-binding registered copyright, which everyone declares is a must-have if you want your work to be protected with more than a non-textual trust-fall exercise, hoping nobody steals your work and runs.
That said, electronic registration with the copyright office is $65, or $45 to register one work by one author.
ISBN: I only recently learned the words behind this acronym. ‘International Standard Book Number.’ It’s the ID on a book that marks it as unique and helps commercial booksellers and libraries circulate it. Each iteration of a book—paperback, digital, hardcover, new editions, et cetera—has its own ISBN. When you’re publishing on your own, you purchase ISBNs through a service called Bowker.
One book/version’s ISBN costs $125.
There are better bargains the higher the number of books and/or versions you go, starting at a bulk of 10 books for $295. But as I only have the one (1) skinny novella on the table, that’s a no-go. Which begs the question of how many ISBNs are in store for this little monster. It depends on how many formats I go with.
eBook: The quickest and most cost-efficient option across the board for any self-publication service. Short, sweet, no printing pains of trim sizes or distribution costs or formatting, oh my. Nice.
Paperback VS Hardcover: …But I am now and forever a sucker for physical media. Even though it’s a teeny brochure of a thing, I want to hold a physical copy of The Vampyres in my hands! So bad! And every service I’ve looked through has stated the obvious: Hardcover costs more than paperback. My heart won’t break if I have to stick with paperback to spare everyone’s wallets—hardcovers are pricy in both directions!—but I am a little torn. Especially as physical size might affect the price too.
Here we have two of my favorite quick reads, an anthology of Poe stories and Clive Barker’s novella, The Hellbound Heart.

The Poe book is a clothbound hardcover. 6.5 x 4.5 inches, a bit over 120 pages.
The Hellbound Heart is roughly 8 x 5 inches (about standard for a novella), at 164 pages. But unlike Poe, it looks like Barker took some liberties with the spacing and font size.
Standard size dimensions cost less than unique cuts, which means that whether paperback or hardcover, I sadly have to say goodbye to the petite palm-sized edition I was hoping for. On the upside, good news to us crap-vision readers—the font’s going to get H U G E in order to make the book more than a pamphlet with delusions of grandeur.
Audiobook: The fact is, my voice is not up to the task of reciting anything with appropriate gravitas and I think we’ve all been spoiled by @re-dracula and assorted other podcasts’ skill in orating. I don’t have the cash to hire a professional and I’m not about to accept anyone’s freebie offers. I won’t pickpocket friends for their talent. If an audio version ever comes along for any story of mine it’ll be down the road when it proves worth the format’s effort and cost.
REVIEWS (and a Foreword!)
It was the best of times (People reading the thing! Commenting on the thing! Good good good—), it was the worst of times (The Mortifying Ordeal of People Reading and Commenting on the Thing). Time for what every advice site declares a book absolutely must have the moment it’s thrust into the wild.
Reviews, reviews, reviews.
I’ve already bitten several bullets and passed copies out to a handful of fellow scribblers to scrutinize, their reviews destined to be hung up like literary gold stars on their bookselling site of choice, my own included. Now comes my preliminary grovel to readers en masse to please drop a review, a comment, a blurb of any shape or size where you can once The Vampyres drops. I’ve already gotten some early comments that have consisted mostly of screaming. Screams also count as a review.
As an aside, there are two folks in particular who I reached out to who exist in the stratosphere of Coolest People in the Vampiric Lit scene. They promptly exploded me into disbelieving giblets when they told me, yes, they’d be happy to read my little story and offer up a review and a foreword for the book respectively.
I’m not sure what the decorum here is, but for safety (and surprise’s) sake, I’ll not name names. But they are names I’ve been happy to come across for the past two years while neck deep in the undead book club. I’m infinitely grateful to both of them and am waiting on pins, needles, stakes and kukri blades by my inbox so I can pin their words up inside the book itself.
FUTURE SCRIBBLING
To get one of the biggest questions out of the way, let’s talk about Barking Harker.
My very own object lesson on sunk cost fallacy.
I wrote my way through a goddamn cinderblock of text without even grazing the finish line of the first section of the story. A story made of so many convoluted triple-decker layers of subplots and side characters that it had the structural integrity of a monolithic Nature Valley granola bar, just waiting to fall apart under its own weight. Such is the hubris and curse of too-many-words-itis. The Vampyres remains a miraculous fluke, jotted down during an overdue break from BH’s slog. Not just because I tripped and fell into finishing the story, but because it’s comparatively compact! Brevity at last!
For those still craving the assorted gothic and ghoulish promises of the initial novel idea, don’t worry, those aren’t going anywhere. I’ve just crumbled the metaphorical bloodstained granola by my own hand and have done the sane thing of parsing out the various subplots to become the foundations of their own stories. Which they really should have been from the get-go. Insert 100+ clown emojis here.
On that note, I am turning into WIPs Georg over here. Good god.
I hesitate to throw myself all-in again and make promises of X Story that may leave me spinning my mental wheels or ballooning the plot out into a behemoth that can’t be steered back on course. Even so, here’s a peek at a few ideas I currently have on the brain.

So.
Not exactly lacking for stories. It’s just a matter of seeing which of them breaks ahead of the herd and squeezes out into the publication ether first.
LAST BIT
Blah, blah, requisite reminder that I have a Ko-Fi where you can donate a buck or commission my best attempt at art, blah. Any pennies are a help.
But I’m betting very few of you came around here for my doodles. Somehow, a good amount of people tripped into this pit with me because you enjoy the rambles and horrors I’ve written over the years. Maybe some of you will even buy my book once it’s out. And you, there, on the other side of the screenyou’re reading this right now. You made it all the way to the bottom of this pile of exposition just because you wanted to. So, thank you.
Thank you for reading this far. Thank you for reading before and reading what’s to come. Thank you for giving me the confidence to even consider shouldering my own work out into the wider world.
Thank you.

TTTE Human AU reference sheets and bios Part 3
Mavis Stephenson
Age: 23
Height: 175 cm
Mavis is a feisty young woman and full of ideas. Eager to show what she is capable of, yet she still lacked experience when she moved to Sodor. She was placed under Toby’s tutoring, who she did not like very much at the start. She actively went against his advice after she was told by Diesel Toby was a stuck up wanna-be know-it-all, insisting on doing everything her own way much to Toby’s frustration. Tired of Mavis' antics he left her with a difficult task all by her own and when she failed and Toby helped her out, she started to take his advice finally seriously. Mavis gladly became Toby’s student but still liked to put her own spin on things.
Over time she became less naive and open to bad impressions. Mavis matured into a responsible, creative and eager hard worker. Her way of approaching things from different perspectives has also proven to be very helpful at many occasions, having fallen into good graces with many. Having zero patience for mischief, she frequently berates the twins Bill and Ben. The two were intimidated by her unbreakably determined attitude at first but quickly started to find her cool, looking up to her as an older sister, calling her “Big Sis Mavis”.
She loves her work but she also wished to see more of the island and expand her horizons, so she accompanied Thomas and Percy on one of their escapades once, resulting in them becoming friends. Mavis is still very stubborn and when she starts something, she wants to finish it no matter what tries to stop her. The same stubbornness resulted in her collapsing once when she tried to finish a job despite a sprained ankle, leading her to be carried to an infirmary by Diesel, who took a liking in Mavis and her being the first person he was genuinely nice to.
Diesel’s affection for her grew more and more obvious to Mavis especially when he tried to keep her away from her usual workplace to spend more time with her. While not approving of his antics, she decided to be patient with him as Mavis is able to see past his devious demeanor. When Diesel finally made efforts to better himself, he tried and fumbled to confess to Mavis. Still getting the message, Mavis kindly rejected him as she likes him platonically and offered him her friendship instead, which he happily accepted.
Mavis overall is one of the island’s most enthusiastic and creative people, who strives to always improve herself and find new methods to solve problems unseen by others, carrying an almost infectious confidence and optimism with her.
Rosie Hill
Age: 16
Height: 164 cm
Rosie was born and raised in Scranton, Pennsylvania, USA and moved to Sodor when she was 14 due to her parents’ work. She is lively, sweet, energetic and quick to act. Most of the time she needs something to do in order to not become nervous from understimulation. Rosie is Thomas’ classmate and she quickly began to idolize him, imitating Thomas, which only irritated him. However, they managed to become friends, Rosie stopped imitating him and she is often invited to hang out with Thomas and Percy. Her parents disapprove of her friendship with Thomas but she happily ignores that despite usually being a very obedient daughter.
She was raised very American and still has problems adjusting to Sodor’s culture but she is eager to learn regardless. Even though she is very extroverted, she still struggles with some social cues, very often misunderstanding what others mean and getting into trouble despite only having good intentions. Rosie is easily intimidated by very tall people and gets silent when being yelled at thanks to her very strict parents. She looks up to women like Mavis, Emily and Daisy and after a helpful talk with Mavis managed to grow courage and stand up for herself when her father threatened to make her transfer to a boarding school on the Mainland if she won’t stop being friends with Thomas.
Rosie has shown to be clever, dependable, a good student, free-spirited, humorful and reveals to be quite tomboyish when she’s not with her parents. She likes to have moped races with Thomas or bike races with Percy and she can give great motivational speeches and directly opposes any mistreatment towards others or herself.
On Valentine's Day Diesel, Bill and Ben made fun of how close Rosie and Thomas were, teasing them to be a couple. Irritating Thomas and embarrassing Rosie, led to him avoiding her for most of the day and Rosie felt very hurt. After some inner turmoil on both sides, they decided to set things straight, revealing they both care a lot for each other as friends. Rosie also said she always wanted a sibling and she is delighted that Thomas is like a dear brother to her.
Bertie Leyland
Age: 31
Height: 181 cm
A joyful and whimsical local bus driver. Bertie always welcomes his passengers with a warm and wide smile and a jolly honk-honk from his buse’s horn and says goodbye with a bright “toodle-peep”, making him very beloved by many people. He has a strong attachment to his red single-deck bus and cleans it everyday after his shift. Loving his work and putting a lot of passion into it, Bertie wants to make sure his passengers always have a pleasant and punctual ride. Bertie is genuinely very nice and is always open for a little chat but he also likes to get cheeky with others from time to time and has a boastful side as well.
Nothing ever seems to break his joyful attitude, only getting upset when he runs late, gets stuck or when something might cause or really does cause damage to his bus. He has a rough relationship with his co-worker Bulgy, who is annoyed by Bertie’s cheerfulness and being kept in line by him.
Bertie is a trusty ally of the kids of Thomas’ school as he daily drives them to school and back home, always stopping when a kid barely misses the bus to let them hop on. His helpful and whimsical nature has brought him into many crazy scenarios with Thomas, who he often calls his “little blue friend”.
With Bertie’s inexhaustible cheerfulness it is hard to believe he used to be very down on his luck in the past. Permanently injuring his shoulder in an accident, ruining his potential career as a rugby player, failing university, inheriting his late father’s debts, getting into many other unpleasant situations and even getting abandoned by everyone around him and ending up homeless for a while. It was when he finally got his job as a bus driver on Sodor when he finally found peace and could be the ray of sunshine he naturally is.
Daisy Cammell
Age: 40
Height: 172 cm
Daisy is a lady, who describes herself as a “highly sprung and up to date beauty”. She was
troublesome when she moved from France to Sodor and just started working there. Being rather lazy, refusing to do extra work or manipulating others into doing her work for her. She was an irrational, self-obsessed diva, who constantly belittered others and talked them down.
However, her vanity and stubbornness got her in trouble on multiple occasions with people like Toby, Annie and Clarabel. Her misbehavior brought her in so many uncomfortable situations that she decided to better herself for her sake and others’.
Despite changing for the better, she still is highly authoritative, snarky, snobbish and easily irritated but that is now paired with using her strictness to bring order instead, trustworthiness, engagement, benevolence and a good sense of humor.
She lets Ryan live in the apartment complex she runs and looks after him, developing motherly feelings for the young Gresley. Daisy also became friends with Harvey despite Diesel trying to cause discord between them and also made up with Annie and Clarabel.
When Diesel accidentally hospitalized Daisy after playing a prank on her, the guilt became too much for him and he sneaked into her hospital room to apologize to her while she pretended to be asleep and learned that he secretly likes her. Daisy did forgive him in the end but decided to not let him off the hook that easily and invited him to have a serious talk where she taught him that if he really wants to make friends, he seriously had to change his ways just like she did in the past. Diesel took her words to heart, genuinely making an effort to change, and to support the young man, she offered him a spot at her apartment complex and invited him to talks whenever he needed some.
Daisy found a great liking to Emily as she found her strong personality very attractive and the two began to meet up more and more until the two women decided to start a relationship.
Paxton Doncaster
Age: 21
Height: 174 cm
Paxton is a gentle, young man, who recently just finished secondary school alongside his best friends Sidney Horwich and Norman Bulleid. The trio applied to jobs on Sodor and were all taken, all three of them moved into Daisy’s apartment complex and started into their work life with much enthusiasm. He struggled at school due to his short attention span but he managed to push through and graduate eventually even if it was close.
Paxton has a very loving and supportive family and his parents always looked out for him. They were worried about their son moving away because despite being very proud he turned out to be such a good-hearted person, they also know he’s very gullible, naive and easily taken advantage of. He used to be tricked by his peers constantly and he never fought back because he did not notice he was tricked or was too scared to do so. He also takes sarcasm literally, confusing others and himself. Paxton is more of a follower than a leader and finds making big decisions very stressful, letting Norman usually call the shots in their group activities. Surprisingly, Paxton is very self-aware, knowing about all his flaws and he also knows, he can’t really change it as this is just how he is.
Wanting to become friends with Diesel because he thought he seemed lonely, he fell right into Devious Diesel’s traps, being taken advantage of on multiple occasions. Like when he unintentionally helped Diesel to accuse Luke murdering the to that time missing Victor but his conscience and good will helped him to make everything right again because Paxton is always willing to do the right thing and is even able to gain unexpected mental strength when he has to help someone.
He never gave up on Diesel and was very happy and proud when the latter actually wanted to change.
There are times where he can show some cunningness and has wisened-up from experience, which are mostly displayed when he helps others when they have to teach someone a lesson. Despite believing himself to not be very smart, he loves solving mysteries, no matter how tricky and his eyes lighten up whenever he finds a clue.
When Paxton, Sidney and others were trapped in a cave because of a landslide, he stepped up and gained the courage to speak up and keep everyone calm until help would arrive, taking on the role of a leader he never thought to be capable of. Paxton supported Sidney, who was having a panic attack when he got injured while trapped in the cave, giving first aid and calming him down. After three hours they were finally freed and Paxton had received some new found respect from many and he and Sidney have grown closer severely thanks to the incident.
Nia Kimani
Age: 19
Height: 176 cm
A young, enthusiastic woman from Kenya in East Africa. Nia was pendling from job to job, still trying to find her true calling, having gained a lot of experience already despite her young age. When she was traveling to her next job interview, she saw a boy in blue trying to help someone push a broken down rally car up a hill and offered her help as her motto is “two heads are better than one”. After they were able to help the driver, they took both of them to the next city. The blue boy introduced himself as Thomas Billington from Sodor in the UK and the rally car’s driver as Ace Canley from Australia. According to Ace, the two young men are traveling around the world to find clues about “Gold Dust” and Thomas said he joined in to find his missing parents and to help a friend called “Lady”.
Nia was nothing but confused at first but found the whole objective rather interesting and because she was an orphan without a family to return to, she thought it was a good opportunity to find her place to stay somewhere out there and joined them. Quickly Nia learned Ace was nothing but bad news and that he and Thomas were not friends but Thomas was only following for his own objectives. She and the young boy became friends over their journey through Africa and Brazil and Nia found out Thomas was being manipulated by Ace into doing all of this and he actually wanted to return home despite having fun traveling and wanting to find answers.
After arriving in San Francisco, California in the USA, Nia forced Ace to let Thomas go home before he could get into any more danger. Unable to find any answer for her own goal, Nia thought she had to return home to Kenya but Thomas suggested joining him to Sodor and she gladly agreed. Thanks to Thomas convincing Sir Topham Hatt to hire Nia as a contract worker for the time being until she could become a full-fledged employee, Nia finally found a place to stay.
Nia, who was very protective of Thomas and became like an older sister to him, quickly fell into good graces with his caretakers Edward, Annie and Clarabel, who were very grateful to her for watching out for him while he was dragged into Ace’s mess. She also formed a friendship with the other newbie Rebecca, who was currently struggling with her assigned mentor. She is the one of those, who stayed back at Sodor when an excursion team was formed to go around the world again to find clues about Gold Dust way more effectively.
She has a positive attitude, is adventurous, always open for new experiences, a good problem solver and has a strong belief in friendship. She is very protective of her younger peers and always looks out for them, particular Thomas, Percy. Rosie and Rebecca. Nia is good-mannered but can become very scary when angered and does not hold back when she seems it appropriate to lash out on troublesome people like Ace. A side of hers she tries is her sensitivity and strong fear of being ignored or abandoned.
Rebecca Bulleid
Age: 18
Height: 168 cm
The daughter of the head of the wealthy Bulleid Group. Rebecca was recruited to work for Sir Topham Hatt, mostly for business relationships but also the Fat Controller needed new personnel to make up for many of his best workers leaving for the Great Excursion. She was placed under Gordon’s tutoring, who was at a low point in his life at the time and despised her and Nia at first because he thought they were there to replace Edward and Henry, who were chosen for the Excursion while he stayed back on Sodor. It was a very difficult road to get there but she managed to grow on Gordon in the end after all and he became her proud and caring mentor.
Rebecca has a big heart and is usually happy-go-lucky and cheerful but also has a very insecure side as she fears to be inferior to her seniors, can get anxious whenever she fails to meet expectations and feels that she might be seen as a liability, something that was started by Gordon when he still hated her and constantly insulted her. She is also on the more clumsy side and acts humble whenever she causes a mishap.
Rebecca is always willing to see the good in others and is quite gullible and oblivious in a similar way to Paxton. She often fails to read the room and causes a lot of confusion like when Diesel tried to be rude to her but her unconventional way of thinking just left him puzzled or when she used to anger Gordon due to being unable to understand his hardships.
Adrean “Diesel 10” Diesel
Age: 51
Height: 199 cm
Heartless leader of a nations-wide feared crime syndicate, Adrean is the tenth in line as the head of the dangerous Diesel family and goes by Diesel 10 or D10 for that reason. D10 rules his organization with an iron fist and does not hesitate to serve cruel punishments towards those who irritate or disappoint him, including his own nephew Darius, who he raised himself after his parents’ passing. He is ruthless, cold, arrogant and unhinged through and through as he tends to break out in loud cackles out of nowhere. His lack of reason and common sense, made him replace his left arm with a hydraulic claw he named “Pinchy” and even speaks to it from time to time, unironically believing it speaks back to him.
He is really strong and someone to be truly feared in combat and only has some back -up from his two henchmen Splatter and Dodge in the background. His sadism makes him toy with his prey until he gets bored or they “break by accident”. Said sadism is also displayed in other forms of abuse Darius had experienced most of his life in order to get “toughened-up” by his uncle, only making him end up to be terrified by D10.
One day his research team learned about Gold Dust and a mysterious entity called “Lady”. Wanting to gain that power for himself, D10 sent Darius to Sodor for intel. After taking too long, D10 decided to take matters into his own hands. All of this culminates into a large confrontation with some inhabitants of the island and the goddess Lady. D10 managed to land a fatal blow on Lady but he himself ended up falling off a cliff, getting hurt severely in the process. He might be out of commission for the time being but the evil mafia boss plans his dreadful return.
Lady
Age: unknown
Height: 166 cm
The goddess of a hidden world of spirits called Shining Time and the guardian of Gold Dust. Not knowing how she ended up where she is now and what her true purpose is with her role, she wandered around the Island of Sodor and has only been spotted a handful of times but her existence still only remained a mythos. One fateful day, she was fatally injured by D10 and fell down an abyss to her demise. But she was found by Thomas, who carried the Golden Whistle with him at the time. In order to survive in any way, she gave up her body and transferred her soul into the Golden Whistle but lost all of her memories as a result.
Now housed in the Golden Whistle, she can only be seen and heard by Thomas and can barely interact with the world around her. She made the conclusion that to regain her lost memories, to help Thomas find his parents and Hiro to move on into the afterlife, she has to uncover the truth behind the Golden Whistle and the Gold Dust, which she can only do with Thomas by her side. Thomas and Lady did not get along at first, mostly through their clashing personalities and because Thomas blames her on many tragedies that happened that were in correlation with Gold Dust. They managed to become friends in the end and Thomas promised Lady to help her regain her lost memories out of kindness and not only in self-interest.
Lady is gentle, kind and smart. She has a good heart, genuinely wants the best for everyone and hates seeing others get hurt. But her amnesia and position as an otherworldly being makes her oblivious and feel disconnected to humans and their customs and really wishes to understand them regardless if it is useful to her cause or not. Her rational mind also makes it difficult for her to comprehend more complex human emotions, getting into many misunderstandings because of it. Despite her initial struggles to understand them, she truly grew to love the people on the island she wandered for so many years and wants to protect them at all cost from evil forces that are after her.

Barbarian S/O - Jack, Floyd, Rook, Malleus, Lilia
Okay. I hear you. I think I got the basic concept here. It was an interesting idea to consider with these guys. I did make these short because of the number of characters. But also, FIRST ROOK PIECE! WOO!
Premise: Their s/o often challenges them to combat
Words:
Jack: 165
Floyd: 141
Rook: 189
Malleus: 190
Lilia: 164
~~~~~
Jack
He’s into it.
Most of the time. Jack’s all for challenging himself and getting stronger. However, if these bouts get in the way of the tasks at hand, he may get annoyed with the inconvenience. On the other hand, it’s really easy to egg Jack into fighting you. So he would really appreciate it if you genuinely considered his circumstances before challenging him.
This is probably the most even strength contest of the bunch. Although, if you have any experience with grappling and locks, Jack’s done for. He’s brute strength and less tact, so for the first few months, if you can put him in a lock, you win. He does learn from past mistakes though and will eventually learn to counter these moves. He’s definitely a good, steady opponent to work with.
“Hm? No, not now. Professor Crewel is gonna be pissed if I don’t get all these herbs for potions class. What did you say? No, I’m not afraid. That’s it. Bring it!”
Floyd
Hell yeah! Floyd’s into it!
But only if you can beat him, otherwise it’s too easy and he’ll get bored. And the only way you’re winning this is if you have any skill in grappling and locks. Let’s be honest, Floyd is just stronger. However, if you can put him in a hold where his strength is of no use, then it’s interesting. It’s not recommended that you use this method to make important decisions because who knows how Floyd will abuse his power if he wins.
Floyd will drop whatever he’s doing—literally mid-convo—to run at you on sight. Others come to accept this and let it happen; only the teachers can put a stop to it with threats of punishment.
“No, Azul said if you don’t pay back—Is that my shrimpy? Yo shrimpy! Finally, something interesting! C’mere!”
Rook
All freaking for it.
But Rook will make a show of the whole ordeal. He’ll make you wait while he neatly sets aside his hat and jacket so they don’t get ruined, waxing poetic about the conflict to come. Even in the midst of a choke hold, he’ll praise the beauty of the moment. He also has a habit of lecturing you while this happens—explaining how your stance was slightly off or how the arm lock he’s using works.
Rook is also likely to indulge you at almost any given moment, he just needs to finish or pause whatever he’s currently doing. No, he doesn’t really care who’s spectating and Vil hates it.
Chances are somewhat even here. Unlike some others, Rook does not rely on pure strength, making use of grappling and locks just as well as you, if not better. You can make bets on this to decide things, but your win rate is probably slightly less than 50/50.
“Oh another glorious exchange? I beseech you, let me prepare my heart for the approaching challenge. By all means, show me that passion with which you fight.”
Malleus
Yeah, no.
If you’re just acquaintances, he finds this pointless and will not engage.
However, if you actually develop a friendship, or something more, then Malleus may indulge you when appropriate. No one has ever dared challenge him before, so he doesn’t really do it right. Like his body isn’t into it and he’s just moving how he thinks he’s supposed to. Think someone uncertainly reenacting a fight scene they saw in a movie. But he’s trying his best to appease you.
You aren’t winning by the way. Ever. He’s obviously holding back because he cares about your wellbeing, but he’s not letting you win. Someone could knock on the door and Malleus will just stand up—while you’re still grappling him—and answer the door as if nothing’s happening. Definitely don’t bet your decisions on you winning, because you won’t. But Malleus still enjoys the interactions because he enjoys time with you and seeing your energetic nature.
“Hmhm. I see you still haven’t learned the futility of your effort. Very well. I have a few minutes before club activities begin. You’ll be joining me afterwards, when I win. Agreed?”
Lilia
This is the silliest game. And he loves it.
Lilia is all down to teach some younguns a lesson. You won’t ever get one over on him, but he’s more than happy to participate in your custom while improving your technique. Slippery, sneaky, and smart, Lilia is decently strong, but is all about using size to his advantage—so he’s well versed in grappling and locks.
Despite his overwhelming ability, Lilia does let you win. Heavy emphasis on let. If he so chose, you would never be the victor. However, the elder fae understands morality and choosing his battles wisely. Plus this is still just a game to him. If he’s okay with the consequences of losing, he’ll throw the match. Plus, he enjoys seeing the delight on your face when you celebrate.
“Oh ho, back for another round of rough housing, are we? What lesson shall I teach you today, my little fawn? Kheehee, then let’s see which of my lessons have stuck.”
Stephen Ambrose really took 164 pages of Band of Brothers to mention Dick and Nix being good friends. Literally said Welsh was Dick’s “best friend,” much, much earlier in the book. (Which, they arguably were also bffs after being roommates in Aldbourne.)
You think maybe he was holding himself back so he could focus on the task at hand and not go off on a tangent and write, “Winters and Nixon,” every 2 sentences?
"Over the past decade, we’ve grown ever more concerned about dubious strains of social-justice advocacy infiltrating medicine. Following the murder of George Floyd in 2020, doctors’ pursuit of social reform coalesced, almost overnight, into a mission.
Within a week of Floyd’s death, for example, the Association of American Medical Colleges, which is a co-sponsor of a major accrediting body, announced that the nation’s 155 medical schools “must employ antiracist and unconscious bias training and engage in interracial dialogues.” A year later (and again in 2024), the American Medical Association released a Strategic Plan to Embed Racial Justice and Advance Health Equity that encouraged physicians to dismantle “white patriarchy and other systems of oppression.” Over two dozen medical schools issued their own similar plans.
Medical students are now immersed in the notion that undertaking political advocacy is as important as learning gross anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology.
Researchers are promoting unscientific modes of thinking about group-based disparities in health access and status. The University of Minnesota’s Center for Antiracism Research for Health Equity decrees “structural racism as a fundamental cause of health inequities,” despite the fact that this is at best an arguable thesis, not a fact. (The center was shut down last month.) The Kaiser Family Foundation states that health differentials “stem from broader social and economic inequities.”
In what borders on compelled speech, the State University of New York’s Upstate Medical University issued a 164-page report from a diversity task force insisting that “Health care professionals must explicitly acknowledge that race and racism are at the root of [Black-white] health disparities.” Other variables influencing the course of chronic disease, prominently the patient’s health literacy and self-care, receive scant attention.
Perhaps the most dramatic recent display of ideological intrusion into the medical sphere took place last June at the UCSF Medical Center, where keffiyeh-draped doctors gathered on the grounds to demand that their institution call for a ceasefire in the war between Israel and Hamas. Their chants of “intifada, intifada, long live intifada!” echoed into patients’ rooms.
These doctors were not putting patients first — if anything, they were offending and intimidating patients. They were putting their notion of social justice first.
As doctors, we believe that it is enough for us to demand of ourselves that we be good at taking care of patients. But for individual doctors who wish to responsibly leverage their professional standing to effect political change, we propose three guidelines. They should advocate for policies that 1) directly help patients and 2) are rooted in professional expertise, while 3) ensuring that their advocacy does not interfere with their relationships with their colleagues, students, and patients.
First, 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐦𝐨𝐭𝐞 𝐦𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐚 𝐡𝐢𝐠𝐡 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐨𝐟 𝐝𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐥𝐲 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡. “Dismantling white patriarchy and other systems of oppression” is not an actionable goal. Our primary job is to diagnose and treat, and to do no harm in the process. We have no expertise in redistributing power and wealth. Even seasoned policy analysts cannot readily tease out strong causal links between health and economic and social factors that lie upstream.
We do not deny that much of the health disadvantage suffered by minority groups is the cumulative product of legal, political, and social institutions that historically discriminated against them. But past discrimination is not necessarily a factor sustaining those problems now. We must address the discrete causes that operate today.
Second, 𝐩𝐡𝐲𝐬𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐬’ 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐚𝐝𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐩𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐲𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐛𝐞 𝐫𝐨𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐧 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐪𝐮𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧. 𝐎𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚𝐝𝐯𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐧 𝐛𝐞𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐟 𝐨𝐟 𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐬𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐮𝐞𝐬 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐥𝐨𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐚𝐮𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲, 𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐬 𝐦𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐨 𝐚 𝐯𝐞𝐡𝐢𝐜𝐥𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐩𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐬, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐤𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐜. Medical professionals will, of course, have their own views of the public good. They are free to take to the barricades as citizens — but not while wearing their white coats.
Third, 𝐝𝐨𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐬 𝐦𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐚𝐝𝐯𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐜𝐲 𝐨𝐧 𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬. 𝐖𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐞 𝐚𝐝𝐯𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐚 𝐛𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐜 𝐨𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐛𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚 𝐝𝐨𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫, 𝐚𝐝𝐯𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐧 𝐛𝐞𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐟 𝐨𝐟 𝐬𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤 𝐚𝐠𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬, 𝐝𝐫𝐚𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐲 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞.
The faculty must also protect medical students’ education, an imperative complicated by advocacy, which seeks change rather than knowledge. Taking strong political stands at work also risks alienating trainees and colleagues with whom faculty members must collaborate in caring for patients. Trainees who hold different political views may withhold their opinions out of concern for their career prospects.
Perrine is a cheerful young lady who views the world in a “glass is half-full” mindset. Her nature is warm and welcoming, able to ease even the coldest and sternest of hearts to an extent. Though she mostly wins them over with the food she makes.
She is diligent but knows how to make her tasks fun so as not to get bored. Perrine also likes to make organized planners with cute aesthetics. This helps her keep focused and not feel like the tasks are such a chore. Though this can be a double-edged sword, while she is seen as reliable and hard-working, she can end up biting more than she can chew.
Perrine is open to support and praise almost anything her friends are into even if she doesn’t understand it. Even if others see it as weird or outlandish, if it makes her friends happy then she thinks it can’t be all bad.
Perrine may look like a pushover with how much favors she does for everyone but she can stop a fight as quickly as it starts. It always ends with both sides making a compromise or outright apologizing for the ruckus they caused.
She is quite skilled with handling people with such unlikable attitudes, though she doesn’t force her friendship onto them. She merely just provides them a little bit of company for them to become somewhat nicer to others.
Hometown: Marshland Port
Family Life
Perrine and her family lived in the Marshland Port, but back then it wasn’t as lively as it was today. It was dull and the swamp area made it unbearable for non-locals to visit. Only a handful of families lived in that land and managed to set up a small community there.
Perrine was told that their great grandparents invested in making the marshland a port and so they worked hard and foraged for anything that would be of value. Much to their surprise there was an abundant source of produce there, not to mention that the fireflies that come out at night was so beautiful that they decided to advertise it as a tourist attraction.
It wasn’t long before the port became a town and many tourists were coming in to see the sights and the try the food there. A majority of the houses in that place have built-in shops on the first floor while the second floor is their housing area.
The house shops have become a symbol of their community that it wouldn’t be the same if they were removed.
Perrine’s family runs a restaurant, the place is a family-run business which would explain how Perrine was very quick on her feet and dexterous despite having so much to do. She learned how to cook at a young age because she wanted to help out more.
Things were going great until a rich family built a restaurant across the street and was a bit obnoxious in competing against the small businesses around it. The other families were also bothered by the way these elites tend to take customers away from them for the sake of profit. The families simply wanted to run a business because they feel close as a community like that.
Childhood Memories
Perrine remembered how happy her family and neighbors were when she made her first dish all on her own. They celebrated by sharing it amongst others and some adults even brought alcohol to pair it with. That’s one of the moments that sparked Perrine’s love for cooking but it was really to see others smile and get along while enjoying good food.
Her parents gave her the family’s cooking pot as a present for her birthday after making that dish. Perrine takes good care of it and uses it for personal cooking, she felt like it gave her inspiration whenever she felt like experimenting.
Though there were times that her enthusiasm made her produce some… questionable combinations and her father and big brother didn’t have the guts to criticize it. Her Mawmaw did though and Perrine wasn’t even offended, she was more offended by her father and her brother being dishonest to spare her feelings.
But when the new restaurant owned by rich folk from some faraway kingdom wanted to topple the family-owned businesses, Perrine felt dread at the thought of losing what she considered a sacred place. No more merriment and chatter amongst neighbors and relatives, the warmth of the community gone and replaced with staff you barely know and won’t interact with you unless it’s about product.
The made her realize that she wanted to keep this place as it was! It became her goal to work hard to show those elites that fancy products and luxurious buildings don’t express the closeness of their small community.
Perrine was ecstatic to be chosen to go to such a prestigious academy and her enthusiasm made her a welcome sight amongst the see of nervous freshmen students.
Her personality and way of life made other students get together like a family and thus she was appointed as dorm leader soon after. Perrine was quite surprised but she ended up taking in her new role with pride.
She was very pleased to find out that the dorm had a restaurant built in along with a smaller boat that serves as a travelling food truck.
Though it was tough for a while to balance dorm work and school work, the students took initiative to help her out and give her a breather. Perrine isn’t used to sitting still as she feels the need to do something, but she appreciates their help and it felt nice to have her hard work recognized and repaid.
In academics, she is mostly getting B grades with the occasional A at times she feels pumped. But of course her skills in culinary and handicraft is obviously exceptional.
Perrine didn’t struggle as much because she often joined study groups to learn more about the subjects better, I guess it also helped that she allowed them to bring snacks to keep them from being fatigued too.
School Relationships
Perrine usually gets along with a lot of the students though there are a few that she would consider to be a part of her friend group.
Allison is her kitchen friend, she and her get together to create new and exciting dishes. Though Allison likes to add a bit of surprise to her food, such as candy that makes your hair change color or cupcakes that bounce around when you try to eat them. She gives her a lot of ideas for a new dish!
Cerule piqued Perrine’s interest when she realized she was a mermaid. She was curious to know what kind of foods she ate and how did they cook under the sea if they had no fire. Needless to say, Cerule is basically gambling her taste buds if she is picked to sample Perrine’s new dish.
Most of the time it’s very good but there are times that she is weirded out by the combinations humans come up with.
Vidya took a liking to Perrine, which made the girl grab the opportunity to sample some authentic cuisine from the oasis kingdom. Vidya was also like a big sister to her, always giving her advice and reminding her that she has her own capabilities as well.
Jinlong and Elu’s sense of smell is much more sensitive compared to humans and thus they were enticed by the scent of spices wafting off Perrine. She can tell that they are curious and maybe a little bit hungry so one day she approached them with food in hand and an acquaintanceship started from there.
Of course, she wouldn’t pass up the opportunity to learn more of their culture through food. Though they don’t have to tell her, Perrine can see through their manners and facial expressions that they have problems regarding family.
Perrine has lived in a tight knit neighborhood, so she would pick up on certain mannerisms.
One struggles with a family’s opposition for her ambitions while the other struggles to brave the unknown for the sake of her family. Perrine doesn’t say it upfront though, it was none of her business but she wants them to realize that the academy can be a second home to them and the students as their second family.
Lillie is the party-loving socialite in the dorm, she livens up parties just by being there. Her form is based on Perrine’s love for her community. They celebrate holidays and birthdays together, the joy and laughter of those memories are what keep her motivated.
However, Lillie isn’t always about parties, she lends an ear and gives words of encouragement to those who need it most. There were times that Perrine forgets to take care of herself, Lillie is there to remind her all the time to take care of herself. Fun shouldn’t be at the cost of one’s health
Big Tom
He is a tomato frog, but he is unusually big for something so small. His size is close to a bradley tomato more. He loves anything red and will eat them a lot but of course he loves tomatoes the most.
Big Tom can be seen snacking on all kind of tomatoes, Perrine jokingly put him in a tomato basket when he was passed out on a food coma. It was kind of cute so Perrine takes pictures every time she does this.
Big Tom has an odd sprout on the top of his head, Perrine has no idea why it’s there but she suspects that because he stays in one place for a long-time greenery tends to grow on the skin. He really does look like a tomato with that sprout.
Big Tooth
He is an alligator that is often mistaken as a swamp monster with how much greenery is on his back due to staying in one place for too long. Big Tooth is not owned by Perrine, he’s just so fond of her that he might as well be adopted by her.
Though he is a wild animal, he has taken a liking to Perrine since she came to check on him once after hearing he had a toothache. After that, he always waits for her at the dorm to greet her and even wags his tail.
Big Tom likes to sunbathe on his head sometimes and Big Tooth doesn’t mind at all. Perrine is the one who named him, “Big Tooth” because he was the largest alligator in the entire dorm.
Her unique magic is called, “Golden Spice”, she can see the properties of spices whether it be in the use of cooking or alchemy, she can immediately tell what their purpose is. Though not useful for offensive combat, it can be utilized for quality check as well as learning more about spices.
Perrine lucked out with her unique magic, so she keeps a notebook detailing the various uses and experiments she did on spices.
Perrine isn’t good in magift but she puts her unique magic to use even a little by distracting opponents with an enticing smell. She could conjure a scent spell relating to the spice she studied.
Plus, the spice can have different effects once it invades the sense of smell such as feeling drowsy or feeling riled up. Perfect for a distraction.
Other than that, she is also skilled in using fire and ice magic but once again, they are mostly used for cooking.
Elva Bousquet
The headstrong mother of the household and an excellent cook. She and her family used to be in poverty until she and her husband decided to start catering to small parties within their community. Word of their delicious food got so popular that they managed to start a restaurant and it inspired others to start businesses too.
So, their community became a popular tourist spot because of the shops and restaurants that are a part of the houses. She is one tough mama bear, her motto is always “No work, no eat!” she made sure her children know that slacking off doesn’t produce results.
Jeremiah Bousquet
The father of the household who always has wise words to give. He knows hard work is important but reminds his children that if they work too hard then they’ll have no one to share their proud moments with.
He helped set up a catering business and the recipes used were from his mama who he remembered as a sassy old lady but with a golden heart that gives. He sometimes sings when he’s feeling happy that day, his children can hear him scat singing in the kitchen.
He’s a doting father to his children to the point he won’t comment if his children made a mistake in cooking and he’s too worried about their feelings to be truthful, his mother and wife shake their heads at him every time.
Grandma Hattie
Jeremiah’s mother who still loves to spoil her grandchildren and sit outside the porch. The customers are fond of her motherly nature and even laugh at her witty jokes, everyone affectionately calls her “Mawmaw”.
Even though she’s a sweet grandma, she can’t stand people who harass her family, she was about to take her walking stick and smack that rival restaurant owner who wanted to buy their house. She definitely dislikes those kinds of people, arrogant and puts their value on wealth.
Theodore Bousquet (23)
The eldest who now owns the family restaurant after his parents retired, his dad still cooks but he has other employees who do the majority of the cooking. He’s a big guy with a scary-looking face but he is very nice and friendly with the customers.
Lately, he’s having trouble with the restaurant across the street that is owned by a rich company from abroad that looks down on them. But as the eldest, he needs to be strong, so he endures for their sake.
Ida Bousquet (13)
The second youngest of the family who is mute but can read lips easily and has her own sign language that only the family can understand. She is a sweet girl who loves to make dolls and play puppets with them with the other kids on the street.
Though she isn’t afraid to speak her mind and the rest of the family are wide-eyed at the words she would sign at someone she doesn’t like, such brutal honesty.
Dixie Bousquet (8)
The youngest of the family who is quite spunky and energetic, always running around the marshland to catch frogs. Her momma always tells her to let it go and she can’t keep it, so she just borrows her dad’s camera to take pictures instead, though she still tries to catch them again but doesn’t bring them home this time.
The character’s name, “Perrine”, means “rock, stone”, while her last name, “Bousquet” comes from the old French word “bois” meaning “the woods”. The last name just sounded fitting so there was no other thought behind the selection other than aesthetic.
Perrine was tricky to work with since her previous personality was almost a copy-paste of Tiana. The artist decided to just make her a culinary artist who can make something delicious or absurd as one of her personality traits to separate her from her counterpart.
The artist was a bit at odds with the character designs considering the time period and working with the darker skin tone is a bit different. But this would also be a good practice on working with skin tones.
26. Out of the Silence, by Eduardo Strauch
Owned: Yes Page count: 164 My summary: Four cousins boarded a plane on its fateful flight across the Andes. But when the rescuers came, only three of them lived to tell the tale. Eduardo Strauch was one, taking on a leadership role after the avalanche, cutting meat, helping the group survive however he could. This is his story. My rating: 4/5 My commentary:
Eduardo Strauch is one of the Strauch cousins, who became leaders in the group of survivors after the death of rugby team captain Marcelo Pérez del Castillo, and who along with Roberto Canessa had the grisly task of cutting meat from the bodies of the dead. He was left behind in the plane when Canessa and Parrado went on their expedition to the west, and was rescued along with the others when the helicopters came.
The thing I found interesting about this book was its formatting. While Strauch does give a loose chronological account of the disaster and its aftereffects, each chapter is themed after a different idea or emotion - life, death, hope, that sort of thing. The chapter contains reflections on that theme, both from what Strauch was feeling and experiencing in the Andes at the time and what he has felt about it and experienced since the rescue. He comes across as a thoughtful individual, someone who has spent a fair amount of time contemplating the events (understandably) since, sorting out his thoughts. The different themes of the chapters invite hard questions - why did those who survive live when all the others died? Why did some perish in the avalanche and some make it? What does it all mean, in the grand scheme of things? Strauch doesn't have answers, but sometimes the questions are enough.
Next, the last of these books, and the actually definitive account of the crash.
Magister is a tough gig
Still going through this old DND 2E (or 3E) supplement, and I'm surprised just how much lore Ed is able to fit into this book via the vehicle of the Magister role. It doesn't really relate much to Gale, but as I read this book it's through that filter, and I have found a few interesting things.
The main thing that I didn't realize was how different Gale's life seems to be in relation to the wizards and sorcerers throughout Faerun over the ages -- in a nutshell, they mostly killed each other. The life Gale describes is one of scholarly accomplishment and civilized advancement among likeminded peers -- he attends a school dedicated to teaching novices to advance with supervision of their more advanced masters, he mentions colleagues that he has discussions and disagreements with, hell, the game even implies he has friendly relations with incredibly powerful wizards (that are evil/insane, even!) like Halaster Blackcloak of the Undermountain. It could be because he grew up and lives in Waterdeep, perhaps the most civilized locale in all of the Sword Coast, that shapes his life more than anything, but I have to imagine that since the early days of Faerun it's become safer and more civilized to live as a mage -- it's not the wild west anymore, so to speak.
There's an entire section dedicated to all previously known Magisters, and it's crazy how many of them were just power-hungry muderhobos. Mystra and Azuth favor and prefer those who were good natured and helped others, even doing them favors beyond the usual Magister, but it didn't stop them from choosing some real nasty pieces of work (or preventing the really nasty ones from obtaining the title of Magister after killing the last one). The average lifespan of a Magister in office is bleak -- no more than 4 years, and this is averaged out among some who were Magister for 60 years and some that were Magister for a day before someone killed them, on purpose or accidentally.
It just used to be incredibly common for mages (meaning any magic user) to just hunt down and kill any rival mage to steal their magic tools and spells, creating an environment where if you were studying magic you had to preemptively prepare for someone to come along and kill you, if you got any serious level of accomplishment. I'm not sure if that's slowed down now that the realm is in 1495 DR, but for sure in 164 DR? Mages be murdering each other, all the time, with no legal consequences because even if you're a king or a warlord or whatever, you're not going to get involved in a wizard fight. Mages largely lived in their own strata of society, by their own rules, and this made it incredibly likely that they were all inclined to kill each other in order to gain more power.
So enter the idea of a Magister, a super-charged spell user with game-breaking power if they were clever enough to utilize it, tasked with spreading magic and teaching it, being judged at their end on how well they did so. The weird thing is how hands off Mystra was -- she'd answer prayers for guidance if asked, but most of these weirdos were on their own, unsupervised, getting up to some wild shit. Some did nothing but try to murder their rivals; some did nothing but spread out spell scrolls and assist struggling students; some created new types of magic that still exist today. There was one guy who just liked to blow up castles. He invented spells just to target manmade stone structures to hurl them up into the sky like bizarre stone spewing fountain -- he didn't like killing anyone, he just tracked down old abandoned castles and pulverized them. Constantly.
Supposedly the office was vacant after the Spellplauge, and since only clerics of Mystra and Azuth are told the sigil of the spellcaster chosen for office at the moment of choosing, it's more than likely the Magister is out there walking around, subtly changing the way magic is found or used in the world, and we have no idea who it is.
In regards to Gale, this office seems tailor made for him at this point -- he loves sharing magic, discussing it, exploring it, understanding it. He wouldn't hate the power that came attached to it either. I'm 100% certain that if he hadn't gone after the orb, if he'd stayed in a favored position by Mystra, he would have been Magister in his lifetime.
And poor Tara would curse Mystra all the more, granting her proud little peacock more power than he knew how to manage, fretting constantly about him being murdered by some power-hungry maniac.
Feed the baby a food with onion as an ingredient.
Visit the museum. If you already have, finish a dungeon with the baby.
Deliver a gift to a friend.
Teach the baby a life lesson.
Tell the baby a bedtime story about identity.
Since last update, A1 has completed 2 tasks on Tumblr and some story and cookie tasks on the Discord! They have their checkmarks completed for this week, but would love to continue to do tasks with their family!
EVENT CLOSING: Code sighting!
The codes appeared occasionally throughout the week, but every time A1's parents quickly left the area. Each time it appeared, the response grew more hostile, and the code appeared for longer. Appearing briefly, then watching for longer, then staying and taking pictures, then attacking. After that, it vanished again, but A1 recognizes the danger presented by the code, both through stories and firsthand experience. There were 4 event submissions this week.
Thank you for participating in this event! There will be another one starting Sunday! (If you've been keeping track of this account, you'll probably know what it is)
Backstory
Kiko Suzuki is the Feline Pro-Hero and animal rights activist working in Musutafu, Japan and working part-time as a physical instructor at U.A. High School, ranking at 39 helping the aspiring young students of Class 1A in learning to train on how to use their quirks. She is also the wife of Shōta Aizawa, however when they work together they remain strictly professional, but in private they are a very loving and happy couple.
Kiko was a student to U.A. High the same year as Aizawa, and as a teenager she wasn’t the easiest to get along with and known to be a difficult student to work with due to her short temper and her tendency to be alone. As a student, Kalica was more meek and reserved, and as such she was often viewed as very cute and people would fluff her ears or tail sometimes without permission. She hated being seen as "cute" since that seemed to be the only thing people saw her as. As she got older, Kalica began setting stronger boundaries and making it clear she will not have her personal space invaded all because of her Quirk.
There was one incident in her second year where she had scratched a student who kept touching her ears and tail when she had told her to stop, and the student had deep scratches across her face, leading to her getting briefly suspended and making it difficult for her to find more hero work and internships. She was soon reinstated into the school where she would graduate with high grades, but she would still have trouble finding work until she formed her own internship. When she was able to find work, Kalica took part in working as a minor Pro-Hero and was eventually able to work her way up into her own agency and a cat café to help her staff relax after a lot of hard work.
Besides working as Pro-Hero, she is also a passionate animal rights activist and fights for equal rights for people with animal-like quirks much like herself. It took a lot of convincing, but she eventually agrees to take a job working part-time as a physical instructor at U.A. High School.
Kiko and Aizawa had a mutual dislike of each other when they were young students, and she will to this day that she had a crush on him. Over the years, they would briefly work together in hero duties, and off-duty they would begin to spend more time together until their relationship began to form. She still kept in touch with Aizawa and the both of them began to start dating, however they kept their relationship in private as to not affect their work or allow the media to harass them when they were trying to spend free time together once the opportunity presented itself. When she and Aizawa got married, they held a private ceremony with only the Pro-Heroes invited to the service.
Even when she stays out of the spotlight, Kiko takes pride in her work as a hero and is very dedicated to ensure that she keeps her society safe from very, and she does whatever she can in her power to ensure that she can help provide care for animal rights and maintain a better society for those with animal Quirks.
Trivia
-Her voice: Japanese- Rumi Ochiai (Rouge the Bat, Sonic the Hedgehog); English- Susan Egan (Megara, Hercules)
-She is a Virgo.
-Her favorite colors are orange and black.
-Her favorite holiday is Halloween.
-She was originally born in Kyoto before she transferred to Musutafu when she got accepted into U.A.
-After she and Aizawa got married, she made it clear that she didn't want to have children so she and Aizawa can have a safe and fulfilling career and had herself sterilized.
-Kalica's agency has a cat cafè to help her employees relax after a stressful day, and the cats residing are rescues where she holds adoptions. This requires extensive background checks to ensure the cat goes to a good home and won't be used for animal testing.
-Whilst she is known to be a difficult Pro-Hero to work with, she is known to have the best care for her interns and sidekicks
-A lot of her personality traits are based off of my own cat Agatha, mostly the fact that she is very reserved and likes to be in her own personal space
-Aizawa and Kalica had a private wedding ceremony where Oceana was the maid of honor and Present Mic was the best man.
-Whenever Miss Joke cracks her jokes that she and Aizawa should get married, Kalica follows up with it that she should be the maid of honor
-She has a bad habit of mindlessly scratching at furniture. This drives Aizawa insane and he has had to put double-sided tape on the furniture so his own wife doesn’t ruin the couch. He understands she does so when she’s nervous, but at the same time it is fairly expensive to replace.
