strongly considering finally making the change to different writing software than Word for prose purposes. does anyone have opinions on this/has tried other things? like scrivener or whatever else is out there?
i am looking for a one-time purchase (not subscription) and something that can be installed/accessed forever rather than cloud based (often don't have internet). my frustration mainly right now is how miserable finding/organizing/editing long works with multiple chapters is right now so some sort of chapter organizing element is a major bonus

Made my computer faster!
Okay so like a week ago I learned something very, very interesting. Something I didn't really think much about until I decided to, in my spare time, look something up after getting a random video recommendation one day that talked about "Is your computer hacked?" or something along the lines like that.
You see it has to do with the computers Disk use. For some reason my computer was always running a high Disk 0 (C:) use and I never really understood why the disk was always running at 100%. That was until I found this video explaining that there are two programs in Windows Services that's always running in the background of your computer, because of these two programs causing this issue, the computer Disk was always running at 100%!
After turning these two settings off from services
SysMain
Connected Devices Platform
Stopping these programs from running has made my devices speed run soooo much better and smoother! Going from 100% Disk use to it now only spiking to 100% when I'm starting up a program, then it goes back down to good percentage use like 5% and such ^.^
Oooh I can not tell you how much this has helped my computer out! See for your self-

While this stuff is about windows 10, I'd still recommend that people who are stuck using windows 11 to also give this stuff a try to help better your PC experience... and so your computers fan isn't working so hard.
Here's the video for everyone to watch so you can all use the info to help speed up your own computers as well and stop having the fan put in so much effort:

🇺🇲 The summer of 2008 marked a turning point for AOL. Time Warner was in discussions to sell its internet division to either Microsoft or Yahoo, a move that would significantly impact the online advertising market.
➡️ Beyond its search engine and e-mail service, AOL's most notable brands included the instant messengers ICQ and AIM, the iconic web browser Netscape Navigator (which dominated the '90s and was a key player in the browser wars with Microsoft), and Winamp (the legendary media player from Nullsoft, acquired by AOL in 1999).
💵 In January 2001, AOL merged with Time Warner in a $165 billion deal, the largest merger in U.S. history. This merger was intended to create a media powerhouse, but instead, it led to a slow decline. The dot-com bubble burst, and AOL's dial-up internet service quickly became outdated. The anticipated synergies never materialized, leading to massive losses and internal conflicts.
💻 By 2008, AOL was a shadow of its former self. The potential deals with Microsoft or Yahoo underscored the intense battle for dominance in the tech world. Yahoo, under pressure from activist investor Carl Icahn, was in a proxy fight to avoid a takeover by Microsoft, which had its sights set on both Yahoo and AOL.
📈 Analysts predicted that acquiring AOL would significantly enhance the buyer's online advertising power, reshaping the digital landscape. Despite AOL's eventual spin-off from Time Warner in 2009, the company could not reclaim its former glory. However, the legacy of its pioneering services like ICQ, Netscape Navigator, AIM, and Winamp continues to be fondly remembered by many.

No, Nintendo Isn’t Evil for Bricking Your Console—You Were Just Never Paying Attention
Let’s get one thing straight from the jump: I don’t own a Switch 2. I’m not personally mad. But I’ve been watching this Nintendo “they can brick your console!” outrage spiral into hysterics across YouTube, Reddit, and Twitter, and I think it’s time someone explained the actual situation like an adult. The short version? This isn’t new. Nintendo’s just telling you what everyone’s been doing for…

another fun tech fool decision ive made is that im highly aware of the foibles of having all your files saved to one specific machine, particularly being unable to access them on other computers, yet i nurse an instinctive hatred for the cloud. Bro I Do Not Trust You
#well i put some shit on there obviously but like. microsofts Keep All Your Shit On The Cloud stuff can fuck right off#my relationship to tech is very much defined by the fact that im a hipster with a pathological hatred for the mainstream#i dont like using websites instead of programs i dont like updating software i dont like using bluetooth#i love it when tech is inconvenient and bad#and like thats genuinely impacting my life a little bcos there are things i actively avoid for being mainstream but whatevs!#its fine. also just dont ever try to get me to watch something i perceive as 'popular'#which can range from big new movies to shit i only know bcos i have one mutual who posts abt it#we have no idea why we hate that we think its bcos of the whole 'formative years spent on reviews side of youtube' thing#now if u try to get me to watch a video essay abt a book ive never read ill trying to hit you with hammers#we're rehabilitating we're getting more into actually experiencing art for ourselves instead of living life secondhand!#which we're bad at bcos we fucked it and now we see 'reading books' as a Task that takes Effort whereas reading fic is free#but yknow. smile. i just need to get into meditation and ill b fixed itll b fine. just need to meditate#sidenote its hard to meditate when you flinch away from a lack of stimuli#both from an adhd 'boredom is pain' perspective and from a plural 'Dont Leave Me Alone With My Thoughts' perspective#anyway where the fuck was i. its been like 40 minutes in the library and ive spent all of them textposting#oh well u guys love the sound of my voice and i am so so awesome. youre welcome for more of my words. yay

Help me, writing/design Tumblr!
Microsoft Word sucks, there has to be a better way.
Edit: Word has this feature. It's called Linked Text Boxes. It's still word with Word's jank though, Microsoft Publisher has it, but it seems like Adobe Indesign has it with a better user interface.
I have been doing a lot of document layout work for my degree lately, and Microsoft Word continues to be just horrible. As a famous post once said, nothing about it works. So my question is, there has to be a better way, right? If anyone knows about writing software, is there anything that does the thing I want? (I do the bulk of my writing in Google Docs but the layout tools aren't good enough for the kind of design I need to do.)
My dream word processor (This may be hard to describe):
I want to be able to define specific boxes where body text is allowed to be. When one fills up, it overflows into the next.
Instead of word where you have the body text in the background, and it moves out of the way from the images, I would like text boxes that contain the body text. Like you lay out your images and static text boxes on a page, then you can fill the rest out with dynamic text boxes that contain the body text. I am sure you could do something like this with text boxes in ms word, but you couldn't do the layout as you write the body.
In my dream word processor, you could define blocks as Body Text 1, Body Text 2, and so on. If you added more text into Body Text 1, anything that is pushed out automatically goes into body text 2. If you delete text, excess text comes back into body text 1. Just like how text moving to the next page works in MS Word and Google Drive. Body text can only go into defined boxes, but it is dynamic. I feel like this could prevent the problem in word where moving one image destroys the formatting for your entire document because the body text tries to move out of the way.
Am I making sense? I am not even sure what to google to find something like this, but it has to exist, right? Magazines exist with very clean and nice layouts, they must be using something like this, but Microsoft Word doesn't do it that I know of. If it can, please tell me!

Greetings folks! Do you remember our folks at Facebook now Meta? You know 'em, you love 'em! Yet some of them still not trust them.. Annd you folks right to do so.. Here is why:
İn recent weeks some of your pictures you took and post these platforms get flagged as "Made By AI" for no reason like this one..
Tumblr media
An Instagram photo of the Kolkata Knight Riders, labeled incorrectly as "Made with AI". An Instagram photo of the Kolkata Knight Riders, labeled as “Made with AI.” Image Credit: Instagram (screenshot)
Well the thing is our folks at meta has been work on a new ai based picture identification project for rest of their platforms for the last few mounts called: PlatoNERF!
actual tech is pretty amazing actually Nerf (NEural Radiance Fields) tech is mostly used by mockups and quick cgi reference shots this is simply generates photo realistic and high resolution scans into 3d renders like photoscan but based of reflections of light.
But what is PlatoNERF? has design and made by both MIT and META's R&d labs have developed PlatoNeRF, an AI-powered computer vision technique that can use shadows to model 3D scenes, including objects blocked from view using both Nerf tech and Lidar scan.
Tumblr media
its simply scans the pictures and can create 3d envoirmental model through it but how its decides if something is real or AI? Shadows!
if it cant detect any shadows it automatically flags the post!
i know im speaking like its a techno-horror story or some its a conspiracy theory but i swear this bug actually caused by this :)
So if we solve that case we can continue with our regular schedule see you guys tomorrow!

for you guys to understand how NERF tech works:
