Reading the Hermetica: Initiatic Rituals in the Greek Magical Papyri
For this week’s Reading the Hermetica discussion, we’re continuing our look at technical Hermetic texts such as we might find in the Greek Magical Papyri (PGM) and focusing on several that tackle initiation rituals: I.1—42, I.42—195, IV.154—285, XIII (as a whole), and IV.475—829.  For this, you should get yourself a copy of Betz’ The Greek Magical Papyri in Translation.  As an alternative to…

Current reading is The World of Odysseus by Sir Moses Finley, originally published in 1954. It's Sir Moses's attempt to reconstruct the society of "Dark Age" Greece (=the tenth and ninth centuries BCE) by close reading of the Iliad and Odyssey. As great a historian as he was, I'm finding the book a little disappointing. Sir Moses seems to have had little interest in, or appreciation for, the history of ideologies (ironic in a Marxist), nor for the complexity of gender roles in the Homeric poems: all he wants to do is strip the epics down to a supposed "kernel of truth," as if everything else were so much rust that needed to be sanded away. At times, I've found myself genuinely wondering whether he'd really paid attention to what he was reading. Some of his dogmatic statements are breathtaking in their wrongheadedness: there's "no trace of the polis in the Homeric poems" (what about Troy in the Iliad or Ithaca in the Odyssey, both of which show many hallmarks of polis-organization?); the poems have nothing to say about Greek colonization, and so must predate it (what about Odysseus in Odyssey IX making plans to colonize and develop the island of Polyphemus?); Penelope is "little more than a convenient 'mythologically available character'" with no real personality (seriously?) Granted, criticizing a book that's seventy years old, in a field where so many methodological advances have since taken place, is a bit like shooting fish in a barrel, but still -- I can't help but feel that the whole exercise could have been improved by a shift in perspective on his part.

jEWS TODAY ARE NOT THE HEBREWS OF THE BIBLE today, those who are known as Jews are in fact the non-Semitic and non-Israelite Ashkenazim, Sephardim, and Samaritans, who in later times joined small numbers of other races that converted to Judaism/Pharisaism: Polish, Russians, Ukrainians, Germans, etc. These latter ones form a minority known as European Jews who, when coupled with the Ashkenazim, constitute a majority against the darker-skinned Samaritan, Sephardic, and African Jews. Discover What Happened to the Hebrews. All the above groups are converts to Judaism, and none can claim to trace their ancestry to Abraham, Jacob, or Judah. In other words, they’re not the chosen Hebrews of the Bible with whom God had the Old Covenant, and therefore cannot claim the land of Palestine as their Abrahamic inheritance. And resurrecting the dead Hebrew tongue after centuries in the dustbin of oblivion, in order to make it modern Israel’s official language, won’t change those facts, much like parking a Subaru in a Lamborghini dealership won’t turn it into a Veneno Roadster. Here’s an example of how changing Jews to Judah changes the whole meaning of a passage: “Salvation is of Judah.” John 4:22 In every bible that verse is translated as “Salvation is of the Jews.” Let’s go to the original Greek word, Ioudaios which literally translated means “Belonging to Judah – Of the tribe of Judah.” However, Jews today do not belong to the tribe of Judah. And that’s extremely important, because Jesus knew why He said Judah and not Levi or Ephraim or any of the other tribes, not even Jacob or Israel. He was announcing the fulfillment of every Old Testament prophecy concerning Himself, including Micah’s prophecy which was proclaimed some time during 737-696 BC: “And thou, Bethlehem Ephrata, art a little one among the thousands of Judah: out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be the ruler in Israel: and his going forth is from the beginning, from the days of eternity.” Micah 5:2 And that was the reason Jesus told the Samaritan woman that “Salvation is of Judah.” What He was really telling her was that, “The Samaritans and the Judahites may worship the same God and share the same faith, but salvation is of Judah.” Jesus, Himself the salvation, was born of the Virgin Mary in Bethlehem, Judah (and was crucified in Jerusalem, Judah). And only Jesus’s going forth could have been from the beginning, from the days of eternity because He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and was Emmanuel, God with us (God made flesh). “Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is God with us.” Matthew 1:23 MosesFurthermore, the Judahites kept God’s covenant with Moses by slaughtering and eating a lamb for Passover. Jesus performed it with his disciples. The lamb was killed and eaten in a private home. The sacrifice of the Passover Lamb in the Hebrew home was God’s very covenant with each individual ancient Hebrew, and that’s why Jesus fulfilled it with his disciples in order to introduce the new covenant. “Tell the whole community of Israel that on the tenth day of this month each man is to take a lamb for his family, one for each household.” Exodus 12:3 Jews don’t kill a lamb for Passover in their homes to keep the old covenant alive, and most of them follow the Talmud, a man-inspired book full of Babylonian superstitions. Therefore, such practices on their part demonstrate how distinct their faith is compared to the faith Jesus practiced....

The ONLY place the Bible mentions abortion: Numbers 5:11-31. It tells how to do it... sort of.
Concerning Unfaithful Wives
11 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 12 “Speak to the children of Israel, and say to them: ‘If any man’s wife goes astray and behaves unfaithfully toward him, 13 and a man lies with her carnally, and it is hidden from the eyes of her husband, and it is concealed that she has defiled herself, and there was no witness against her, nor was she caught— 14 if the spirit of jealousy comes upon him and he becomes jealous of his wife, who has defiled herself; or if the spirit of jealousy comes upon him and he becomes jealous of his wife, although she has not defiled herself— 15 then the man shall bring his wife to the priest. He shall bring the offering required for her, one-tenth of an ephah of barley meal; he shall pour no oil on it and put no frankincense on it, because it is a grain offering of jealousy, an offering for remembering, for bringing iniquity to remembrance.
16 ‘And the priest shall bring her near, and set her before the Lord. 17 The priest shall take holy water in an earthen vessel, and take some of the dust that is on the floor of the tabernacle and put it into the water. 18 Then the priest shall stand the woman before the Lord, uncover the woman’s head, and put the offering for remembering in her hands, which is the grain offering of jealousy. And the priest shall have in his hand the bitter water that brings a curse. 19 And the priest shall put her under oath, and say to the woman, “If no man has lain with you, and if you have not gone astray to uncleanness while under your husband’s authority, be free from this bitter water that brings a curse. 20 But if you have gone astray while under your husband’s authority, and if you have defiled yourself and some man other than your husband has lain with you”— 21 then the priest shall put the woman under the oath of the curse, and he shall say to the woman—“the Lord make you a curse and an oath among your people, when the Lord makes your thigh [a]rot and your belly swell; 22 and may this water that causes the curse go into your stomach, and make your belly swell and your thigh rot.”
‘Then the woman shall say, “Amen, so be it.”
23 ‘Then the priest shall write these curses in a book, and he shall scrape them off into the bitter water.24 And he shall make the woman drink the bitter water that brings a curse, and the water that brings the curse shall enter her to become bitter. 25 Then the priest shall take the grain offering of jealousy from the woman’s hand, shall wave the offering before the Lord, and bring it to the altar; 26 and the priest shall take a handful of the offering, as its memorial portion, burn it on the altar, and afterward make the woman drink the water. 27 When he has made her drink the water, then it shall be, if she has defiled herself and behaved unfaithfully toward her husband, that the water that brings a curse will enter her and become bitter, and her belly will swell, her thigh will rot, and the woman will become a curse among her people. 28 But if the woman has not defiled herself, and is clean, then she shall be free and may conceive children.
29 ‘This is the law of jealousy, when a wife, while under her husband’s authority, goes astray and defiles herself, 30 or when the spirit of jealousy comes upon a man, and he becomes jealous of his wife; then he shall stand the woman before the Lord, and the priest shall execute all this law upon her. 31 Then the man shall be free from [b]iniquity, but that woman shall bear her [c]guilt.’ ”

The Ten Plagues of Egypt
The Ten Plagues of Egypt are a series of calamities described in the biblical book of Exodus, chapters 7-12. According to the narrative, these plagues were inflicted upon Egypt by God through the agency of Moses and his brother Aaron, as a demonstration of divine power and to compel Pharaoh to release the Israelites from slavery. Here's a summary:
Water turned to blood: All water in Egypt, including the Nile River, turned to blood, causing the fish to die and rendering the water undrinkable.
Frogs: The land was overrun with frogs, which invaded houses and beds, even appearing in bread ovens.
Gnats or Lice: Swarms of gnats or lice infested the land, causing irritation and discomfort.
Flies or Wild Animals: This plague is sometimes interpreted as a swarm of flies or as wild animals, such as lions or other predators, causing destruction and fear.
Pestilence or Livestock Disease: Livestock in Egypt, including cattle, horses, donkeys, camels, and sheep, suffered from a fatal disease.
Boils: Afflicted both humans and animals with painful boils or sores.
Hail: Hailstones rained down upon the land, destroying crops and causing damage to property.
Locusts: Swarms of locusts descended upon Egypt, devouring any remaining vegetation after the hail.
Darkness: A thick darkness covered the land of Egypt for three days, preventing people from seeing or moving about.
Death of the Firstborn: The most severe plague, where the firstborn of every Egyptian household, including humans and animals, died. This ultimately led to Pharaoh allowing the Israelites to leave Egypt.
After each plague, Pharaoh initially promised to let the Israelites go, but then changed his mind, leading to the next plague. It was only after the tenth plague that Pharaoh relented and allowed the Israelites to depart.

i repeat myself: THERE ARE NO EGYPTIANS IN EGYPT TODAY.
why do you hate me? because i am a barbarian amongst the barbarians. the americans know how to walk like an egyptian. the zigeuners know, or used to know. I am the one whos image is great in egypt, and the one who has no image amongst the barbarians.
why then do you hate Me? ye who love Me?
the pharaohs armies were swallowed by the sea. and didnt the LORD harden the pharaohs heart? and didnt the pharaohs wife flee with the israelites, bringing with her much gold and jewellery? all those golden jewels, and a fat calf. do you remember? moses was the greatest egyptian who ever lived, and a great magician, and he wore golden horns upon his head, and wrote seven books. yes, seven. and the sixth and seventh were not written in letters but in pictures. and who has read these books? LMFAOROFLOL <- that is the name of a demon. + +OYWNϩ 'EBOΛ 'M'ΦNOYT 'NTE NINOYT~ALLELUJAH, ϫE ΠEϥNAI ϣOΠ ϣA 'ENEϩ+
there are still egyptians here today 🤣 a picture can tell a thousand words. the alehouse is egyptian. and the theatre. the big screen, a black mirror. fun and games. a deck of cards. a transvestite wearing heavy eyelinerkohlblackfvmkvndnvdfmnvfjkfjfejlffkljfkljlfjjjle. once, a pack of nine wolves killed ten sheep, and they knew not how to apportion the tenth sheep amongst themselves fairly. behold then there came the fox full wily who said: it is better that you should share the one sheep amongst yourselves as is your custom, his bones his muscles his guts and his brains; and the other nine carcasses, well, we (teehee) ought to have for ourselves. but of course, the king and queen of the forest were not happy about this, and the situation was soon put to rights. that was a long time ago, and a tale even older: remember how when our grandparents adam and eve were driven out of the garden. and how the LORD imposed a tax on us, that of our labours a tenth should be rendered unto Him, as offering, to be burnt in the fire.. and how their son cain (who is our grandfather) despised this law.
well, all of that was washed away in a great flood. when the waters inundated the land, from above and below. and we sheltered in the arc, and were rocked in the angry sea like th' babby in th' cradle. well, theres much to be said there,
and there is no God but God amen. Most merciful and well gracious. most beneficent and wise. i praise his enduring name.
Ee by gum, does your belly touch your bum?
well, theres much to be said...
and there is a book, a bible of 78 moveable pages, and no one knows who wrote it.

"Give unto Caesar what is Cesar's"
This is a quip in the Bible that takes a few pieces to put together. The imperials were trying to get Jesus to trip on his teachings.
foot notes say: this tax was a tax levied against religion or against church collections. Another says it was taxes levied against non-romans, and another suggests non-citizen of Rome. And another is "subject citizens" which I don't know what that means.
It sounds complicated and rooted in roman law to me.
But. It sounds like it has to do with "tithing" or paying taxes to the church for services rendered. Which has precedent throughout the old testament. In particular, the books of Moses.
Deuteronomy 4: "You are to give them the firstfruits of your grain, new wine and olive oil, and the first wool from the shearing of your sheep,"
Tithing due to priests for services rendered, because they and their descendents are chosen by God to be priests.
Deuteronomy 18, 22 and 26 also has much to say on inheritance tithes.
That's what the book said, not me.
So, as a priest and teacher, the Romans are asking if it is lawful to pay the tax from tithing, and Jesus basically says "if it's denarius, it belongs to Caesar".
Fun Fact Deuteronomy 23:2 "No one born of a forbidden marriage nor any of their descendants may enter the assembly of the Lord, not even in the tenth generation"
Means that Jesus too was forbidden entry into the assembly of the lord. And why the entire new testament exists in the first place.

THROUGH WHOM CAN WE BELIEVE IN JESUS?
Why Was John the Baptist Born?
Why was John the Baptist born 6 months before Jesus?
It is through John the Baptist
We must properly understand and believe in the reason why John the Baptist was born as recorded in the four Gospels, who he was, and his ministry, so that we can clearly know and believe in the Gospel of salvation that Jesus has accomplished for us.
Today’s sermon message is based on the content written in the first book “Have You Truly Been Born Again of Water and the Spirit?” by Pastor Paul C. Jong, God’s servant of The New Life Mission, and it is a sermon message delivered based on the biblical evidence about John the Baptist recorded in the Scripture.
Please visit The New Life Mission website to download e-books, audiobooks, and bilingual books for free without any conditions.
In Malachi 3:1, it is written, “Behold, I send My messenger, and he will prepare the way before Me.”
You have to read the Bible carefully. Why did God send His messenger before Jesus? Why was John the Baptist born 6 months before Jesus?
We have to understand what the Bible is all about.
There is a section in the Old Testament on the ministry of the high priest Aaron. Aaron was the elder brother of Moses. He and his sons were anointed as priests by God. The other Levites worked under them, bringing them assorted utensils, mixing the batter for the bread and such, while the sons of Aaron offered the sacrifice inside the holy tabernacle.
So the sons of Aaron were anointed to share the equal amount of work among themselves, but on the Day of Atonement, the tenth day of the seventh month, the high priest alone offered the sacrifice of atonement for his people.
In Luke 1:5, there is a story about the lineage of John the Baptist.
We have to understand correctly about this messenger of God to understand Jesus correctly. We tend to think a lot about Jesus, but ignore much about John the Baptist, who came before Him. I would like to help you understand.
‘The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. As it is written in the Prophets: “Behold, I send My messenger before Your face, who will prepare Your way before You”’ (Mark 1:1–2).
The gospel of heaven always starts with John the Baptist.
When we understand well about John the Baptist, we can clearly understand and believe in the gospel of the redemption of Jesus. It is similar to listening to the ambassadors we have dispatched all over the world in order to understand the situations of all nations. When we know about John the Baptist, we can understand the redemption of God very well.
What a pity it is, however, that so many Christians these days do not see the importance of John. God didn’t send John the Baptist because He was bored and had nothing else to do. All the four Gospels of the New Testament talk about John the Baptist before talking about the redemption of Jesus.
But the evangelists of today ignore John the Baptist completely and tell people that just believing in Jesus is enough to be saved. They are in fact leading people to live as sinners all their lives and end up in hell. If you just believe in Jesus without understanding the role of John the Baptist, Christianity becomes just another religion to you. How can you be redeemed of your sins if you do not know the truth? It is impossible.
The gospel of redemption is neither that simple nor that easy.
So many people think that redemption lies in our faith in the Cross because Jesus died on the Cross for us. But if you only believe in the crucifixion without knowing the truth of the passing on of sins, no amount of faith will lead to complete redemption.
Therefore, God sent John the Baptist to let the world know how redemption was to be accomplished and how Jesus would take away the sins of the world. Only if we know the truth will we understand that Jesus is the Son of God who took all our sins on to Himself.
John the Baptist tells us about the truth of redemption.
He tells us how he came to testify to the divinity of Jesus, and how people would not receive Him when the Light came down to this world. It is also testified in John 1 that John the Baptist was the one who prepared the gospel of redemption by baptizing Jesus Christ.
If we didn’t have the testimony of John the Baptist about redemption, how could we believe in Jesus?
We have never seen Jesus, and when we come from different cultures and religions, how is it possible to believe in Jehovah?
Having such diverse religions throughout the world, how could we know Jesus Christ? How could we know that Jesus was in fact the Son of God who redeemed us by taking all the sins of the world upon Himself?
Therefore, we have to look into the Old Testament to find from the beginning the words of redemption and to come to know that Jesus is our Savior. We have to obtain the correct knowledge to believe correctly. There’s nothing we can do without true knowledge. In order to believe in Jesus and be saved, we have to know the gospel of the redemption that John the Baptist testified to and his role in it. To have complete faith in Christ, we have to know the truth about redemption.
Therefore, as Jesus said, “And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free” (John 8:32), we have to know the truth of redemption in Jesus.
Our faith must originate from the Bible, which is the Word of God, not from human thoughts or worldly religious teachings.
God clearly testifies about John the Baptist through the Bible.
And John the Baptist, as mankind’s last high priest, passed all the sins of the world to Jesus through baptism by baptizing Jesus, and then testified while looking at Jesus who bore the sins of the world, saying “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!” (John 1:29).
As these testimonies show, because Jesus took on all our sins through baptism,
because all our sins were passed to Jesus through baptism which is like the laying on of hands in the Old Testament, He was crucified and took upon Himself the judgment for those sins on our behalf.
This is the “Gospel of water and the Spirit” that removes all the sins of the world.
For those who wish to gain proper knowledge of the Bible and complete salvation, I strongly recommend that you read Pastor Paul C. Jong’s sermon collections “Have You Truly Been Born Again of Water and the Spirit?” Series Volume 1, and Volumes 2, 3, and 9.

5 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,
2 Command the children of Israel, that they put out of the camp every leper, and every one that hath an issue, and whosoever is defiled by the dead:
3 Both male and female shall ye put out, without the camp shall ye put them; that they defile not their camps, in the midst whereof I dwell.
4 And the children of Israel did so, and put them out without the camp: as the Lord spake unto Moses, so did the children of Israel.
5 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,
6 Speak unto the children of Israel, When a man or woman shall commit any sin that men commit, to do a trespass against the Lord, and that person be guilty;
7 Then they shall confess their sin which they have done: and he shall recompense his trespass with the principal thereof, and add unto it the fifth part thereof, and give it unto him against whom he hath trespassed.
8 But if the man have no kinsman to recompense the trespass unto, let the trespass be recompensed unto the Lord, even to the priest; beside the ram of the atonement, whereby an atonement shall be made for him.
9 And every offering of all the holy things of the children of Israel, which they bring unto the priest, shall be his.
10 And every man's hallowed things shall be his: whatsoever any man giveth the priest, it shall be his.
11 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,
12 Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, If any man's wife go aside, and commit a trespass against him,
13 And a man lie with her carnally, and it be hid from the eyes of her husband, and be kept close, and she be defiled, and there be no witness against her, neither she be taken with the manner;
14 And the spirit of jealousy come upon him, and he be jealous of his wife, and she be defiled: or if the spirit of jealousy come upon him, and he be jealous of his wife, and she be not defiled:
15 Then shall the man bring his wife unto the priest, and he shall bring her offering for her, the tenth part of an ephah of barley meal; he shall pour no oil upon it, nor put frankincense thereon; for it is an offering of jealousy, an offering of memorial, bringing iniquity to remembrance.
16 And the priest shall bring her near, and set her before the Lord:
17 And the priest shall take holy water in an earthen vessel; and of the dust that is in the floor of the tabernacle the priest shall take, and put it into the water:
18 And the priest shall set the woman before the Lord, and uncover the woman's head, and put the offering of memorial in her hands, which is the jealousy offering: and the priest shall have in his hand the bitter water that causeth the curse:
19 And the priest shall charge her by an oath, and say unto the woman, If no man have lain with thee, and if thou hast not gone aside to uncleanness with another instead of thy husband, be thou free from this bitter water that causeth the curse:
20 But if thou hast gone aside to another instead of thy husband, and if thou be defiled, and some man have lain with thee beside thine husband:
21 Then the priest shall charge the woman with an oath of cursing, and the priest shall say unto the woman, The Lord make thee a curse and an oath among thy people, when the Lord doth make thy thigh to rot, and thy belly to swell;
22 And this water that causeth the curse shall go into thy bowels, to make thy belly to swell, and thy thigh to rot: And the woman shall say, Amen, amen.
23 And the priest shall write these curses in a book, and he shall blot them out with the bitter water:
24 And he shall cause the woman to drink the bitter water that causeth the curse: and the water that causeth the curse shall enter into her, and become bitter.
25 Then the priest shall take the jealousy offering out of the woman's hand, and shall wave the offering before the Lord, and offer it upon the altar:
26 And the priest shall take an handful of the offering, even the memorial thereof, and burn it upon the altar, and afterward shall cause the woman to drink the water.
27 And when he hath made her to drink the water, then it shall come to pass, that, if she be defiled, and have done trespass against her husband, that the water that causeth the curse shall enter into her, and become bitter, and her belly shall swell, and her thigh shall rot: and the woman shall be a curse among her people.
28 And if the woman be not defiled, but be clean; then she shall be free, and shall conceive seed.
29 This is the law of jealousies, when a wife goeth aside to another instead of her husband, and is defiled;
30 Or when the spirit of jealousy cometh upon him, and he be jealous over his wife, and shall set the woman before the Lord, and the priest shall execute upon her all this law.
31 Then shall the man be guiltless from iniquity, and this woman shall bear her iniquity.

NUMBERS 5
Unclean People
5 The Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 2 “Command the people of Israel that they put out of the camp everyone who is leprous or has a discharge and everyone who is unclean through contact with the dead. 3 You shall put out both male and female, putting them outside the camp, that they may not defile their camp, in the midst of which I dwell.” 4 And the people of Israel did so, and put them outside the camp; as the Lord said to Moses, so the people of Israel did.
Confession and Restitution
5 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 6 “Speak to the people of Israel, When a man or woman commits any of the sins that people commit by breaking faith with the Lord, and that person realizes his guilt, 7 he shall confess his sin that he has committed. And he shall make full restitution for his wrong, adding a fifth to it and giving it to him to whom he did the wrong. 8 But if the man has no next of kin to whom restitution may be made for the wrong, the restitution for wrong shall go to the Lord for the priest, in addition to the ram of atonement with which atonement is made for him. 9 And every contribution, all the holy donations of the people of Israel, which they bring to the priest, shall be his. 10 Each one shall keep his holy donations: whatever anyone gives to the priest shall be his.”
A Test for Adultery
11 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 12 “Speak to the people of Israel, If any man's wife goes astray and breaks faith with him, 13 if a man lies with her sexually, and it is hidden from the eyes of her husband, and she is undetected though she has defiled herself, and there is no witness against her, since she was not taken in the act, 14 and if the spirit of jealousy comes over him and he is jealous of his wife who has defiled herself, or if the spirit of jealousy comes over him and he is jealous of his wife, though she has not defiled herself, 15 then the man shall bring his wife to the priest and bring the offering required of her, a tenth of an ephah of barley flour. He shall pour no oil on it and put no frankincense on it, for it is a grain offering of jealousy, a grain offering of remembrance, bringing iniquity to remembrance.
16 “And the priest shall bring her near and set her before the Lord. 17 And the priest shall take holy water in an earthenware vessel and take some of the dust that is on the floor of the tabernacle and put it into the water. 18 And the priest shall set the woman before the Lord and unbind the hair of the woman's head and place in her hands the grain offering of remembrance, which is the grain offering of jealousy. And in his hand the priest shall have the water of bitterness that brings the curse. 19 Then the priest shall make her take an oath, saying, ‘If no man has lain with you, and if you have not turned aside to uncleanness while you were under your husband's authority, be free from this water of bitterness that brings the curse. 20 But if you have gone astray, though you are under your husband's authority, and if you have defiled yourself, and some man other than your husband has lain with you, 21 then’ (let the priest make the woman take the oath of the curse, and say to the woman) ‘the Lord make you a curse and an oath among your people, when the Lord makes your thigh fall away and your body swell. 22 May this water that brings the curse pass into your bowels and make your womb swell and your thigh fall away.’ And the woman shall say, ‘Amen, Amen.’
23 “Then the priest shall write these curses in a book and wash them off into the water of bitterness. 24 And he shall make the woman drink the water of bitterness that brings the curse, and the water that brings the curse shall enter into her and cause bitter pain. 25 And the priest shall take the grain offering of jealousy out of the woman's hand and shall wave the grain offering before the Lord and bring it to the altar. 26 And the priest shall take a handful of the grain offering, as its memorial portion, and burn it on the altar, and afterward shall make the woman drink the water. 27 And when he has made her drink the water, then, if she has defiled herself and has broken faith with her husband, the water that brings the curse shall enter into her and cause bitter pain, and her womb shall swell, and her thigh shall fall away, and the woman shall become a curse among her people. 28 But if the woman has not defiled herself and is clean, then she shall be free and shall conceive children.
29 “This is the law in cases of jealousy, when a wife, though under her husband's authority, goes astray and defiles herself, 30 or when the spirit of jealousy comes over a man and he is jealous of his wife. Then he shall set the woman before the Lord, and the priest shall carry out for her all this law. 31 The man shall be free from iniquity, but the woman shall bear her iniquity.”

We've Got To Talk About That Verse Where The Bible Condones Abortion
TW: Abortion, Miscarriage
Hi! Local Pro-Choice Christian Witch here. We've got to talk about a common atheist biblical talking point against Anti-Choice American Christians. When you choose to use this talking point, you need to be informed, or the other side is going to feel like they won.
Numbers 5:11-31 NIV:
The Test for an Unfaithful Wife
11 Then the Lord said to Moses, 12 “Speak to the Israelites and say to them: ‘If a man’s wife goes astray and is unfaithful to him 13 so that another man has sexual relations with her, and this is hidden from her husband and her impurity is undetected (since there is no witness against her and she has not been caught in the act), 14 and if feelings of jealousy come over her husband and he suspects his wife and she is impure—or if he is jealous and suspects her even though she is not impure— 15 then he is to take his wife to the priest. He must also take an offering of a tenth of an ephah[a] of barley flour on her behalf. He must not pour olive oil on it or put incense on it, because it is a grain offering for jealousy, a reminder-offering to draw attention to wrongdoing.
16 “‘The priest shall bring her and have her stand before the Lord. 17 Then he shall take some holy water in a clay jar and put some dust from the tabernacle floor into the water. 18 After the priest has had the woman stand before the Lord, he shall loosen her hair and place in her hands the reminder-offering, the grain offering for jealousy, while he himself holds the bitter water that brings a curse. 19 Then the priest shall put the woman under oath and say to her, “If no other man has had sexual relations with you and you have not gone astray and become impure while married to your husband, may this bitter water that brings a curse not harm you. 20 But if you have gone astray while married to your husband and you have made yourself impure by having sexual relations with a man other than your husband”— 21 here the priest is to put the woman under this curse—“may the Lord cause you to become a curse[b] among your people when he makes your womb miscarry and your abdomen swell. 22 May this water that brings a curse enter your body so that your abdomen swells or your womb miscarries.”
“‘Then the woman is to say, “Amen. So be it.”
23 “‘The priest is to write these curses on a scroll and then wash them off into the bitter water. 24 He shall make the woman drink the bitter water that brings a curse, and this water that brings a curse and causes bitter suffering will enter her. 25 The priest is to take from her hands the grain offering for jealousy, wave it before the Lord and bring it to the altar. 26 The priest is then to take a handful of the grain offering as a memorial[c] offering and burn it on the altar; after that, he is to have the woman drink the water. 27 If she has made herself impure and been unfaithful to her husband, this will be the result: When she is made to drink the water that brings a curse and causes bitter suffering, it will enter her, her abdomen will swell and her womb will miscarry, and she will become a curse. 28 If, however, the woman has not made herself impure, but is clean, she will be cleared of guilt and will be able to have children.
29 “‘This, then, is the law of jealousy when a woman goes astray and makes herself impure while married to her husband, 30 or when feelings of jealousy come over a man because he suspects his wife. The priest is to have her stand before the Lord and is to apply this entire law to her. 31 The husband will be innocent of any wrongdoing, but the woman will bear the consequences of her sin.’”
The word miscarry is used only in the NIV Translation.
"Ok are you telling me the Bible doesn't condone abortion, just some guys translating the book?"
That is not what I am telling you. NIV is deliberately written from a 7th grade reading level. A 7th grade level reader will be more aquatinted with the word miscarry than the more direct translation. (I'm not saying a 7th grader should be reading this. Plenty of adults have a 7th grade reading level.)
Here's verses 27-28 in ESV (A favorite among Conservative Christians, from my experience)
I don't know about you, but this clearly states to me that if the accused woman has indeed been unfaithful, she shall not be able to concieve children, extrapolating, won't be pregnant now.
The rebuttal: you don't have to be able to conceive to be pregnant. What about IVF?
ESV uses the language "her womb shall swell." Pregnancy requires a lining and an attached placenta. If the womb swells, the that lining will tear and the placenta will be detached.
The two final rebuttals: God could make the fetus survive. Numbers is an old testament book and we don't follow the laws anymore.
God doesn't change. That's a big theme in Christianity. God would make the same choices again and again, because He is omnipotent. There's a reason the translators of the NIV picked the word miscarry. There's a reason the other translators use the word shrivel.
If you choose to argue with a biblical cherry-picker, be informed before you engage. That's the main reason I included the entire section. They're going to get on your ass for cherry picking, because they're deflecting. Do your best to defend yourself. You probably won't win in their minds, but every seed of doubt you sew is worth the effort.
TL;DR, The NIV isn't the only translation that supports the idea that the Bible recognizes abortion. You just gotta use your noggin to interpret.

6 For the punishment of the iniquity of the daughter of my people is greater than the punishment of the sin of Sodom, that was overthrown as in a moment, and no hands stayed on her.
7 Her Nazarites were purer than snow, they were whiter than milk, they were more ruddy in body than rubies, their polishing was of sapphire:
8 Their visage is blacker than a coal; they are not known in the streets: their skin cleaveth to their bones; it is withered, it is become like a stick.
this section of lamentations describes the israelites being taken to captivity and their progeny coming back unrecognizable because in captivity they had race mixed, they are described before in verse seven and after in verse eight in what is clearly meant to be a contrast. i just had a "jew" tell me that modern milk is treated and sickly white and that regular unpasteurized milk is yellow and jews are slightly whiter than yellow so that explains that.
i read the bible regularly cover to cover you know, and i just finished nehemia and in nehemia the israelites are returning to israel after a long exile in foreign lands and they find the laws of moses in the temple and are astonished about what they find this is how THEY interpreted the law of moses at that time and this is what they felt they needed to do after finally being reminded of gods commands.
13 On that day they read in the book of Moses in the audience of the people; and therein was found written, that the Ammonite and the Moabite should not come into the congregation of God for ever;
2 Because they met not the children of Israel with bread and with water, but hired Balaam against them, that he should curse them: howbeit our God turned the curse into a blessing.
3 Now it came to pass, when they had heard the law, that they separated from Israel all the mixed multitude.
and therein was found written that the ammonite and moabite should not come into the congregation of god forever, they are referencing this verse from deuteronomy
2 A bastard shall not enter into the congregation of the Lord; even to his tenth generation shall he not enter into the congregation of the Lord.
3 An Ammonite or Moabite shall not enter into the congregation of the Lord; even to their tenth generation shall they not enter into the congregation of the Lord for ever:
now i have told you that "bastard" is in the hebrew here "MAMZER" and i showed you that it did not mean a fatherless child and it actually makes no sense if you try to interpret it that way a child of an illegitimate marriage cant enter the inner temple unto ten generations what does that even mean? his great great great great great great grandson cant enter the temple because his mother was unwed? of course not especially considering elsewhere in that same law of moses it says again and again to shew kindness to the fatherless but strongs concordance rightly says mamzer means mongrel, mixed race, a racial alien. and the people of israel upon finding this exact verse decided they needed to separate themselves immediately from the "mixed multitudes" and what is interesting about that is in the hebrew what is translated as "mixed multitudes" is "ereb reb" or "erev rev" the b and v are interchangeable in ancient hebrew, "ereb" meaning "mixed, night, dusky" is in my view where the term ARAB originates. but nemiah 13 doesnt end there it goes on to say
23 In those days also saw I Jews that had married wives of Ashdod, of Ammon, and of Moab:
24 And their children spake half in the speech of Ashdod, and could not speak in the Jews' language, but according to the language of each people.
25 And I contended with them, and cursed them, and smote certain of them, and plucked off their hair, and made them swear by God, saying, Ye shall not give your daughters unto their sons, nor take their daughters unto your sons, or for yourselves.
26 Did not Solomon king of Israel sin by these things? yet among many nations was there no king like him, who was beloved of his God, and God made him king over all Israel: nevertheless even him did outlandish women cause to sin.
27 Shall we then hearken unto you to do all this great evil, to transgress against our God in marrying strange wives?
he is referring to this section of kings when talking about solomon and his foreign wives.
11 But king Solomon loved many strange women, together with the daughter of Pharaoh, women of the Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Zidonians, and Hittites:
2 Of the nations concerning which the Lord said unto the children of Israel, Ye shall not go in to them, neither shall they come in unto you: for surely they will turn away your heart after their gods: Solomon clave unto these in love.
3 And he had seven hundred wives, princesses, and three hundred concubines: and his wives turned away his heart.
the reason why i harp on this stuff so much is not because i am EXTRA racist, i am as racist as everyone else in a sense we all have a common sense level of racism that is tempered by a common sense of JUSTICE, race is real and important but ultimately we are to judge a person by the FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT, by their DEEDS, the content of their character. and that is just what the bible says. this common sense of justice has been perverted by jews into an insane race blindness that serves no one but them and would destroy us utterly if we allowed it to fully take root. so why then do i harp on this racial stuff in the bible so often? because it shows the bible is TRUE. what the bible says about race is 100 percent true and the so called jews have spent hundreds if not thousands of years lying against this truth and that more than maybe any sermon ive heard from the pulpit has convinced me that god is alive and the bible is the literal truth that these obvious enemies of all good things of all truth would lie even about the color of milk in order to bury the truth contained therein

"The Tithe." From the Book of Nehemiah, "the Exploration of the Mysteries of the Lions that Lay," 10: 37-39.
Tumblr media
The Sealing by the people concludes with a discussion of the Tithe, which as we know is ten percent. We also know quantities named by the Torah are encrypted by the Gematria.
A tithe= 222, "will mix."
A tenth of the tithes up to the house of our God, to the storerooms of the treasury= 5487, הדחז‎‎ ‎, "pressure."
Life does not conform to the ways of the righteous without pressure. We can't mix in a little lawful goodness and hope and pray. They must be impressed. All mankind must submit to the pressure. The results of pressure are peace, prosperity, happiness, and long life. Neglect of the tithe is the root cause of all that causes the early demise of all man holds dear.
The Nsh is to ensure this does not happen. Specifically though the "articles" that are brought into the storeroom. Articles are 308, שח, shah, "time, the hour, the o'clock", AKA deep insight into the Words of Moses:
37 “Moreover, we will bring to the storerooms of the house of our God, to the priests, the first of our ground meal, of our grain offerings, of the fruit of all our trees and of our new wine and olive oil. And we will bring a tithe of our crops to the Levites, for it is the Levites who collect the tithes in all the towns where we work.
38 A priest descended from Aaron is to accompany the Levites when they receive the tithes, and the Levites are to bring a tenth of the tithes up to the house of our God, to the storerooms of the treasury.
39 The people of Israel, including the Levites, are to bring their contributions of grain, new wine and olive oil to the storerooms, where the articles for the sanctuary and for the ministering priests, the gatekeepers and the musicians are also kept.
“We will not neglect the house of our God.”
The Values in Gematria are:
v. 37: Bring the storerooms to the House of God. The Number is 12013, אךיג‎, "Only what I will."
Do not bring non-Kosher regulated items to God. This is unholy. Slander, infedility, gluttony, all cold-hearted, senseless behaviors, stupidity, carelessness, all delusions, faithless and fruitless things, leave these behind.
v. 38: A priest is to accompany the tithes to the treasury. Priests are revelators. Priests ensure the proper ways to reveal the Torah and Tanakh are affirmed and taught by others. The Number is 10952, ק‎טהב‎‎, kathav, "the schoolroom of the sprouts."
v. 39: The articles of the sanctuary are also kept. The books in the Tanakh must also be studied and recited by the Nsh. They contain all the secrets to the Jewish identity, like this one. They are not dispensible. The Number is 10915, קטי״ה‎, katya, "God is present now."
=Do not take poetic license with the Mishnah contained within the Torah. They are the storehouses and must be filled and emptied judiciously. The feelings this invokes must be the right ones.

In Baghdad there are about 40,000 Jews and they dwell in security, prosperity, and honour under the great Caliph, and amongst them are great sages, the heads of Academies engaged in the study of the law. In this city there are ten Academies. At the head of the great Academy is the chief rabbi, R. Samuel, the son of Eli. He is the head of the Academy Gaon Jacob. He is a Levite, and traces his pedigree back to Moses our teacher. The head of the second Academy is R. Hanania his brother, warden of the Levites; R. Daniel is the head of the third Academy; R. Eleazar the scholar is the head of the fourth Academy; and R. Eleazar, the son of Zemach, is the head of the Order, and his pedigree reaches to Samuel the prophet, the Korahite. He and his brethren know how to to change the melodies as did the singers at the time when the Temple was standing. He is head of the fifth Academy. [...it continues like this for several more rabbis and yeshivas...] R. Zakkai , the son of Bostanai haNasi, is the head of the Sium (i.e. the last or tenth Academy). These are the ten Batlanim, and they do not engage in any other work than communal administration; and all the days of the week they judge the Jews their countrymen, except on the second day of the week, when they all appear before the Chief Rabbi Samuel, the head of the Yeshiba Gaon Jacob, who in conjunction with the other "Batlanim" judges all those that appear before him. And at the head of them all is Daniel the son of Hisdai, who is styled "Our Lord the Head of the Captivity of all Israel". He possesses a book of pedigrees going back as far as David, King of Israel. The Jews call him "Our Lord, Head of the Captivity", and the Mohammedans call him "Saidna ben Daud" and he has been invested with authority over all the congregations of Israel at the hands of the Emir al Muminin, the lord of Islam. For thus Mohammed commanded concerning him and his descendants; and he granted him a seal of office over all the congregations that dwell under his rule, and ordered that every one, whether Mohammedan or Jew, or belonging to any other nation in his dominion, should rise up before him (the Exilarch) and salute him, and that an one who should refuse to rise up should receive one hundred stripes. And every fifth day, when he goes to pay a visit to the great Caliph, horsemen, Gentiles as well as Jews, escort him, and heralds proclaim in advance, "Make way before our Lord, the son of David, as is due unto him," the Arabic words being, "Amilu tarik li Saidna ben Daud". He is mounted on a horse, and is attired in robes of silk and embroidery with a large turban on his head, and from the turban is suspended a long white cloth adorned with a chain upon which the cipher of Mohammed is engraved. Then he appears before the Caliph and kisses his hand and the Caliph rises and places him on a throne which Mohammed had ordered to be made for him, and all the Mohammedan princes who attend the court of the Caliph rise before him. And the Head of the Captivity is seated on his throne opposite to the Caliph, in compliance with the command of Mohammed to give effect to what is written in the law, "The sceptre shall not depart from Judah nor a law-giver from between his feet until he comes to Shiloh: and to him shall the gathering of the people be."
Excerpt from the travellogue of Rabbi Benjamin ben Jonah of Tudela, as translated by Marcus Nathan Adler, published in abridged form in "Jewish Travellers in the Middle Ages" edited by Elkan Nathan Adler.
R. Benjamin of Tudela is one of history's most famous Jewish travellers, and his travellogue, a chronicle and catalogue of (allegedly) every Jew in the Known World circa 4933 (1173 A.D.). His visit to Baghdad would have taken place a few years prior, as that date marks his return to Nevarre.
I did not include here the full extent of the pages dedicated to Baghdad (the first bit of which talks at length about the great Caliph, and the latter part goes on for quite a bit more fawning about Daniel ben Hasdai, the last (that anyone could agree) Exilarch. For sake of comparison: the entire entry for the next destination on his itinerary, though entirely fascinating, is only a few sentences, and several entries are only mentioned by number of Jews present, without any further detail.
To me, it bears emphasizing just how significant Baghdad's Jewish history really is, just how deep and long run the roots of a tree that has, within my relatively young lifetime, been felled, and had its stump ground away to sawdust and memories, both scattered on the winds of time. I don't think most of us, Yids and otherwise, have a real concept of how rich, vast, and vibrant the Jewish world was, and for how long. Reading contemporary accounts of Jews moving through that world stirs in me an emotion I do not believe I can describe in any words yet available to me.
It matters, though, I am certain, to remember: Baghdad loved us, once. This place, too, was home. These people were our neighbours, even our friends, back when the stories we told about each other were younger, and less discordant. Those stories deserve a better ending than the one they've been given.

Moses
Do.. you *know* what passover was? Like... Aside from knowing that it happened... Are you aware of the implications?
If not; You are not Christian.
Seriously, what was the [straw that broke the camel's back]? In Exodus... What happened that was *so* bad that half the population decided "You know what, fuck this noise, we're all gonna give up everything and walk in the desert for until... God says to stop"?
Wikipedia describes it like this:
"According to the [Book of Exodus], [God] {commanded [Moses]} to tell the [Israelites] to [slaughter a lamb] and [mark their doorframes] with [its blood], in addition to {instructions for} [consuming the lamb] {that night.} For {that night,} [God] would send the [Angel of Death] to bring about the [tenth plague,] {in which} [he] would [smite] {all the} [firstborn in Egypt]. "
A lot of the readership doesn't fully understand what *that* means. And, in order to do so, You need to take God and [Magical Thinking] out of it.
"Did the Almighty God himself smite all the firstborn? Or..."
Was the hand of man swayed by the voice of God to act in self-defense?
Look at the plagues more literally. Was it Moses/God instilling the plagues haphazardly, OR, was it closer to a forecast on Moses' part.
We know why these things are happening, and you as the [ruling body] are ignorant to what damage you're causing?
We see further proof of this interpretation by our understanding of the Pharaoh;
"Pharaoh asked Moses to remove this plague and promised to grant the Israelites their freedom. However, after the plague was gone, Pharaoh refused to keep his promise, as his heart was hardened by God."
*His Heart* was hardened by God, the same God telling him to stop being a dick to his people and caused the plagues.
If we're to take it literally; it's God playing both sides and causing man to fight amongst themselves. Because that's what God enjoys the most I suppose.
Exodus 10:6; "something neither your fathers nor your forefathers have ever seen from the day they settled in this land till now."
This line is important, the Bible is describing forecasts of things that No Man had ever seen before. And Moses is saying, "because we have not seen these things before, and because you're legislating and protecting the people based solely on what it might be that you had seen before, you're ill-equipped to protect these people."
Sicknesses, Small Pox, insects consuming everything in storage. Something leeching into the fertile crescent that was poisoning the water and the people.
And, even though God was the one who hardened Pharaoh's heart, He still came after all the first born children of the land.
Except for those who already had splattered [Lambs Blood] on their door frame and stayed extra quiet in their homes, as if they were hiding... From something coming around to [jack-the-ripper] all the first born.
Which, by the way, is ALSO described as God. The Loving, Almighty, whatever, wants to kill all the first born children!
I get to this part and I wonder, what is the meaning of this? Were Egypt and Israel just *super* comfortable with abortion? So much so that they'd included the time between birth and becoming an adult?
Does that mean that *Manhood* or *Humanity* is synonymous with being an adult, and children don't count?
"This is what the LORD says: "About midnight I will go throughout Egypt. Every firstborn son in Egypt will die, from the firstborn son of Pharaoh, who sits on the throne, to the firstborn of the slave girl, who is at her hand mill, and all the firstborn of the cattle as well. There will be loud wailing throughout Egypt—worse than there has ever been or ever will be again."
This part is where there's missing information. Purposeful obfuscation of facts? Does it matter the method? Was it literally the hand of a [well trained militia]? Was it [A targeted sickness]? ...was it Moses himself?
I keep getting targeted by certain *religious community* messaging that wants me know that "God is that which makes the [impossible], POSSIBLE."
Doesn't seem to be limited to magical miracle thinking. It means, whatever you thought was [impossible] or [unthinkable] or [whatever] is now in the realm of thinkability and possibility.
What is impossible or unthinkable to you? Abortion? Murder? Genocide? (Trans People?) Everyone getting Small Pox simultaneously? Locusts eating all the crops both stores and on the farm land? Thanks to, probably, some farmers shooting some birds they thought was eating their crops?
[Sourced from Chinese History, it happened, look it up]
The one-child policy is a modern form of [Impossible Think] made [Possible]. Whether it's divinely influenced, I couldn't say, but it certainly became reality.
So why would these people, at this time, be so afraid of opening their door that they faked the murder of their own children and kept it shut while other the other children were being slaughtered?
"BECAUSE God Chose us! How lucky!"
The obfuscated data. God's chosen people.
God selects many people, for many different reasons, he selected Pharaoh to be Pharaoh, and then hardened Pharaoh's heart specifically so this atrocity would occur.
This is a people, who mayn't or may haven't, taken part it genociding their *own* populations. People who mayhavent heard the word about what to do with the lambs or the lambs blood, or sneezed when the [Angel Of Death] came around,
People who mayn't, or may haven't, been involved in the wholesale slaughter of each other's first-borns.
Why did the Israelites abscond to the desert and take A LOT of time thinking about their actions?
And subsequently; why would a people who can no longer afford roofs over their head, or clothes;;have the wherewithal to care about gender-adjusted clothing?
And, in which way would they be concerned about reproduction? Considering, they literally came from a world where they, by their own hands, or maynt-be, where they slaughtered all them with life in their breast?
Or... Was it SIDs all along?
Whether or not you believe the mayn't part...
This was a people warped by the darkest things God and Humanity could think up of, at the time. Depression, Anxiety, Fear, not a one of them wasn't suffering a mental disorder caused by the physical circumstances...
And yet; Which world is it that we live in currently?
Do you think Pharisee was like "Haha Crazy Moses and his *liberal God* think that [Climate Change] is real!!well if it's real! Where's your supporting evidence?'
Moses: *points to biblical plagues happening on their front door step.*
Pharisee: "Ahh Moses. You're such a worrywart, those things always happen!"

The Firstborn Slain - Psalms 105:36
In Psalms one hundred five the Psalmist said Jehovah God, “sent Moses his servant; and Aaron whom he had chosen. They showed his signs among them, and wonders in the land of Ham. He sent darkness, and made it dark; and they rebelled not against his word. He turned their waters into blood, and slew their fish. Their land brought forth frogs in abundance, in the chambers of their kings. He spoke, and there came divers sorts of flies, and lice in all their coasts. He gave them hail for rain, and flaming fire in their land. He smote their vines also and their fig trees; and broke the trees of their coasts. He spoke, and the locusts came, and caterpillars, and that without number, and did eat up all the herbs in their land, and devoured the fruit of their ground”, and in chapter one hundred five and verse thirty-six of Psalms the Psalmist shared how Jehovah God, “smote all the firstborn in their land” where we read,
He smote also all the firstborn in their land, the chief of all their strength.
The verse begins, “He smote also all the firstborn in their land, ...” The Psalmist began with the words, “He smote also” or “He, Jehovah God, even so and indeed struck, slayed and killed” “all the firstborn” which means “each, every, the whole and everyone of the eldest and firstlings” “in their land” or “within their, the people of Egypt's, territory, country and region”. The Psalmist shared how Jehovah God killed every one of the first born Egyptian sons within the country of Egypt. (See Exodus 11:4-5; 12:12,29-30)
The verse goes on to say, “... the chief of all their strength.” The Psalmist continued with the words, “the chief” or “the beginning, first and primary” “of all their strength” which means “ pertaining to each, every, the whole and everyone of their, the people of Egypt's, vigor, generative power, wealth and physical might and ability”. The Psalmist referred to the “firstborn” as the vigor and generative power within Egypt.
When we think through the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist said Jehovah God killed all the “firstborn” males within the land of Egypt. This was the tenth and final plague that Jehovah God put upon the people of Egypt, and after this plague, Pharaoh allowed the people of Israel to be set free. It is sad that it took this many plagues to convince Him, but this is often the way pf people who are stubborn. God desires to have a personal relationship with every person through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for our sins, and when we yield to Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and help us to avoid “plagues” that are meant to convince people to obey Him.
Next time the Psalmist shares how Jehovah God, “brought them forth also with silver and gold”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
