Connie has DID. The way she plays all the characters immediately reminded me of DID or OSDD and I love it.

Mateo is Betty's younger brother (biological or dynamic wise idc)

Mateo is a "stray" himself which is why he takes in strays.

Dirk, Chance, and Parker have game nights and an ongoing DnD campaign they keep forgetting about (much to Chance's dismay).

Bodhi and Zoey would get along so well idc that they can't see each other in my mind they are besties (or more).

Hector is part of Fantina's fan club.

I attended the Date Everything! Game Cast & Crew Party last week and made a vlog about it. I was a writer responsible for 4 of the characters (Text-Box Chan, Monique, Shadowlord, Hero Hime) and I hope everyone is looking forward to dating/friending/hating them tomorrow!

In excitement for the game's release, I also drew little chibis of my characters~

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Hope the holiday season and the new year have been treating you all well <3 I've been hard at work this past month to get the revamped demo out to you all soon, so let's jump right into things ^^

This past month, most of my writing has been focused on the revamped demo, finishing Etza's first draft, and Druk's developmental edits.

The revamped demo is FINISHED w writing edits!!!! That honestly took way more time than I thought, but because I wrote the demo basically two years ago at this point, a lot of my writing style has changed. So while some people might think it is an unnecessary time sink, it was important for me to rewrite the scenes I could so that it felt like it accurately portrayed how the routes are looking. And, because my writing skills are better than basically 0, which is where I was starting when I first wrote the demo, I can better write a script that's closer to my vision of the game.

....So THAT ended up taking a while!!! BUT I finished that this month, which was a huge accomplishment to me and I feel much happier with the Alaris script than before, where I kinda... well, hated it. LOL

In-Game Sneak Peek: New Choices HEHEHE

Etza's draft is making good progress. I'm JUST ABOUT done with their first draft YAY!!! As I mentioned before, writing for the full game routes will be a bit slower for now since I'm now balancing more game stages than before (like coding, sprites, etc.). But I was pretty happy with Etza's progress this month since it does feel like the finish line is pretty close for their first draft ^^

And then Druk's edits are just about wrapping up!! Wudgey and I have been having lots of fun with Druk's route, and it's shaped up to be a personal favorite just because of how enjoyable the editing process has been, so I hope you all are excited for it!

For art, I've gotten some more backgrounds commissioned from Vui for the full game. I also decided to update the prologue art for the demo and commissioned dear friend @saffein-e for some prologue art and..... WELL..... SHE'S STUNNING. I'll let the prologue preview speak for itself HEH

In-Game Preview: New Prologue feat. New Art and Fade-in Text Effect

I'm so happy with it, and in general seeing the demo come together with all the new assets has been RRRRGGGHHH!!!!! I've coded most of the screens by now, but I don't want to show them all quite yet. I'll show one preview of the new communicator screens.

First is the texting screen, and then I also updated the phone call screen! The sprites now not only emote (kinda like video call vibes), but they also auto-highlight based on who is talking!

Most of my miscellaneous stuff has to do with coding the demo. I've been doing a LOT of backend coding to make the game more polished. First is the example above with the communicator phone call feature. Without getting too into coding jargon, it basically is like a new version of the normal sprites so that it feels more interactive, with seeing the characters emote while talking to you, and has the auto-highlight function so that it is clear who is talking during a phone call!

I'm adding more camera work to the demo, more vfx/sfx to make things more immersive, and overall just adding a lot of polish to the game. It's been a lot of work, since it's involved adding alternative textboxes, cleaning up old code, revamping things (like sprites and other images), etc. But it's been worth it to see everything come together!

For market research, I didn't do anything this past month. I DID play Date with Death in December and had massive brainrot from it. In fact, I made two fanarts of little Grimmy LMFAOOOO.

a delicate princess pose lol...... every Tsukasa has a kind of hime-sama vibe, even dirty orphan... isn't it true....

God. what did Amane do with you

now this is a meaningless detail I'm sure everyone will note, but I do think a correction was made to Kou's staff. Previous chapter it had the 'seal' Hanako placed on it when they met....

which doesn't really make sense in this world...

It now seems to be a seal to imbue it with lightning. Even in distance shots, or shots before Teru himself is holding it. So it's simply an error that has been corrected.

it's not the first time AidaIro-sensei have bungled a small detail. The dates for the Yugi twin's 4th birthday were originally printed slightly off (1960 in magazine print VS 1959 in volume print), and I used to go insane staring at the literally same panels with different numbers LOL. If it was an earnest mistake, we'll likely see the seal replaced with this lightning one in the previous chapter, in the volume edition.

It's kind of endearing... because if I had to guess I assume the seal was a simple aida-sensei bungle, while the dates/calendar was an iro-sensei bungle. Both such simple mistakes to make though, lol... and both caught!

I wonder if it's kind of a concession to make it easier on Aida-sensei LOL, I feel bad for her having to always subtract or add seals and occasionally messing up... maybe it's easier to draw a seal there on impulse, and just change the symbol on it, than get used to drawing the staff fully without seal at all.. it doesn't have one in the first volume, of course, lightning or anything...

so wild to see Kou just punch a kid...

maybe I am overthinking it, but it doesn't feel like the lightning really hurts Tsukasa....? feels like he just whacked him with a broom for all that did....

typically even a feeble small bolt at least hurts Hanako or seizes his body briefly...

though Tsukasa is always flat affect when receiving pain, you can at least see it does technically hurt him/leave a mark, like it does on Hanako...

eh... wonder. The lightning only works on 'evil spirits' and not blessed ones, so I'll just say I'd be really intrigued if this Tsukasa was not technically an 'evil spirit'.... Hanako is categorically one (like it or not). I do not really know what this Tsukasa is (:> my heart is open to anything....

AND THEN IT IS TIME FOR ULTIMATE INTRIGUE!!!! GOING TO MAKE ME CRY!!! I was watching all the girlies on JP twitter losing their minds....

p-please... why does Tsukasa always have some... strange, confused aspect to him, like his mind isn't all there, like he can't remember where he is or what he's doing... this is a devastating tiny peek into something... AidaIro-sensei are, such masters... how can Tsukasa balance so well, being a scamp menace, and seeming so unfortunate? Your heart hurts, doesn't it... he always loves Amane. He is always calling for him....

I wonder if he's just confused easily when alone, or if there's something about his perception of reality/time/space, or what... he seems to get kind of lost while he's chasing Nene-chan around too... I wonder why!!! Tsukasa-chan... do you think you're chasing Amane, do you remember playing with Amane...? Do you hallucinate other people as Amane...? Or... do you just not remember when and where you are... or do you call out to him compulsively when alone? Why did you say it in your own tone of voice, apart from the well's...? A white textbox, standing out from the black... What is your state, little otouto...

Did Amane train you to do this....? Does that mean you did this with him? How and why are you here!!! 100 QUESTIONS

this is all the twitter girlies summoning Tsukasa to ask him what color Amane's underwear is

glad to have another angle of 'yorishiro' lore...

yorishiro is an established concept in shinto beliefs as it is, so obviously it always has had an existence of SOME kind outside of the mysteries specifically... but we haven't gotten to really know what those are, in THIS world! I like learning about this simpler, pared-down version of the idea... less complicated and advanced than the mysteries obviously... I like that one would not need some sort of kannagi/miko/blessed being to destroy this kind of simple yorishiro. This would imply a lot more power to the SEALS in particular, and whatever PLACES them onto the mysteries, which PROTECT them from such simple destruction (I get the impression the Mysteries are trying to create a system of checks-and-balances by REQUIRING cooperation between HUMANS and KAII both... which makes one ask 100 questions about how they came to be)...

well I like this tidbit (: grudge you say.... hmhmmmm...

do you remember when I finally was like OHHH i get it, the purpose of KouMitsu is raw physical assault, that's the fetishistic appeal of it, that is the kind of yaoi it is visually... is like, a small, waify pink haired femme boy getting hit and grabbed and throttled and straddled and kabedon'd by a shoe and screamed at. Some people, they've really built Tsukasa into such an ultimate terror in their minds, it has to come out the other end some day (like all deep-seated fears do). I dunno man. If you're uncontrollably aroused by this concept/scene don't worry, it's normal. Mitsuba's divine purpose in life is to have his limbs chopped off and be thrown around the room like a ragdoll...

harper and dirk are getting lumped together here because I think they're both attractive. I have joked about wanting to get shoved into whatever toxic mess they have going on and the demo didn't change that. if anything maybe I could help Harper be less suspicious of Dirk and solve their relationship issues and then have them be happy together With Me Too ☝️

i haven't met shadowlord in the demo and I'll have to see if you can even talk to him in it?? or maybe I'm just trying the wrong shadows. but. he seems my type. from what I've seen.

volt is one of the characters I'm actually desperate to see more of. oh yeah nikolai you got flirted with a handful of times after just meeting a hot man and now you're head over heels, how predictable. I know what I like!!

I have no idea what Eddie's deal is because he essentially told me to fuck off in the demo but he's also attractive and if he's intertwined with whatever is going on with Volt I'm sure I'll end up liking him too. In the friend way or the more than friend way? Who knows!

Penelope is so cute. She's so so cute. I love her. Girl stop going on dates with other dateables and date ME I beg 🙏

Stepford. What do I even way uh. My friends are gonna bully me so hard for liking ANOTHER blond man 🙄 oh well. he seems to have insecurities about aging. I want to helphim he seems like a sweetie.

Lyric is such a nerd. His design isn't super "my thing" but like. He's nerdy. In a way that is deeply attractive to me. And his voice is nice. So. Um. Yeah I blushed a bit talking to him what about it

Johnny Splash is a big maybe. My grandpa likes Elvis and I swear I can hear the Elvis impersonator in his voice. So that's really all I can think of. However he is also kinda a cutie idk. Big maybe.

Honorable mentions I haven't spoken to yet in the demo include Dolly, Daisuke, Textbox-Chan, Lucinda, Tydus, Mac, and. A lot of others I just REALLY want to see how some of their relationships go (like Fantina) before I can think of if I actually like-like em.

I feel so much better now, thanks to you.

I felt like you told me a secret that day. That you let some of your true thoughts show a bit, only because you were comfortable with me.

So… I thought I’d pay you a visit.

Your aunt let me in, and after a few minutes of joyful bustling about, told me you’d be upstairs, at the end of the hall.

Knock,Knock. “Hey, Mo-san? It’s me….”

“Come in…”

I opened the door and slid in.

The room was dark, but not in a way that was made for sleep. Like someone didn’t bother to turn the lights on, letting the natural sun do it’s work.

You were sitting at the foot of the window, your head resting against the dresser. There was a prism in your hand, and you watched the rainbows dance on the wooden floor with every turn of your wrist. 

“Hey, Ichigo-san… You’re feeling better…?” You say, almost sleepily. 

The weather outside was warm enough, and the sky was a bright blue. It seems the tepid weather made even staying awake hard, because your eyes were drooped, as if you wanted to nod off. 

“yeah..I wanted to thank you for taking care of me the other day… so I made you some Matcha Cookies!” 

I sit down across from you, as to not disturb the rainbows you were making, and handed the mini package to you.

You took it, and opened it up. “Ooh, they smell good… like a roastery, kinda.” you take one out, and nibble on it.

“So… this is your room..?”

“Yep. it does the job, so no complaints from me.”

Your room’s really small. Maybe the size of two broom closets together, give or take. It’s also a bit messy, but not in a slovenly way. Books, pencils, a sketchbook, more books…

“It’s not too bad.” I say, laying back.

“I wasn’t a fan of big rooms anyway. If i can see all my stuff, and they’re there, and I can reach them…” you stretch, and a bit of your back shows as you bend to get a manga that had been thrown haphazardly out of the way. I blush at the sight and try to compose myself as you get back into position.

“What was I saying again…?” You blink slowly, looking at the book’s slowly moving pages.

“Uh, about you preferring small rooms over large ones…”

“Oh. well, I like everything within reach, is all.” You toss the book over your shoulder, then look up, hugging your knees.

“You like videogames…?”

“Yeah.. “

You nod to yourself, then stand up, humming something as you look around the clutter.

“Oh, here it is.” You bend over, and with a grunt, haul up a small tv, decorated with Nintendo stickers.

“We could play on this… I’ve got an Atari. We could play Higanbana Ningyo..”

“Sure!” I say,  a little too quickly. “I’ve never heard about that game before, though.”

“Oh, well the cartridge is over there. It’s got a pretty boy on it with a spider lily on his mouth or something...”

I look at where you gestured to, and found the cartridge case. 

The game’s really interesting. It’s about a boy who’s been bullied to the point where he’s really just tired of it all. So he asks help from one of the seven mysteries of the school, a doll called Lady Higanbana, who’s said to haunt the school at night. The doll comes to life and grants him his wish and all, making him a school mystery in the process, giving him the name “mesomeso-chan”. So now he haunts the school, making sure no one has to suffer what he has.

“Oh, this is kinda like the ‘Hanako Hanako, are you there?’ game…”

“You know that one?  it’s the sequel. Not many people like it though, cause Hanako turns out to be a guy…”

“Hey!! I wasn’t done with the game!!” I playfully throw a pillow at you, which you artfully dodge.

“Whoops. Spoiler alert..?” you chuckle as the screen of the tv crackles with life. I put in the cartridge, and a soft humming sound- like from a horror flick- fills the room

You plop down next to me and hand me a controller, and we watch the cutscene play out.

The game opens with a textbox, and the words roll in, like a carpet being unfurled.

“Higanbana-sama.. Help me. I’m so tired of these people bullying me….. They won’t leave me alone…” 

A sob echoes from the black screen, and you slump, visibly uncomfortable.

“Hey, it’s okay if we skip this. I get the plot…”

You comb your slender fingers through your black hair. “Mmmh.. you sure..? I don’t want you to miss out on the story…”

“I’ll get my step-dad to tell me about it. He’s a big gaming otaku so he’s probably played this already.” 

I hesitate at first, but I pet your arm. “If it makes you uncomfortable, we can always just play something else.”

“No it’s… It’s just the intro.” you press a button, and the game fast forewards. I catch glimpses of gore, very very graphic gore

You press another button, and the fast forwarding stops. Then you wobble out the room, and moments later, I hear a retch.

“Mo-san!! A-are you okay?” I jolt and run after you, your head hanging over the toilet as the sound of another retch tears through the silent house.

“B-bugh..water…”

I fetch you a water bottle, uncapping it so you could drink as fast as possible. You’re shivering violently, as if your soul had just been expelled from your body and you were now a walking corpse. 

“N-nngh…” you gargle with the water, trying to take out as much of the acrid taste from you mouth as possible. 

“Are you okay..? Should I call your aunt..?”

You shake your head, resting your forehead on the toilet seat. “Give me… five minutes…” you say between heavy, shaky breaths. “I’ll be…fine…”

“Then, I’ll stay here until you’re okay, okay?”

You shiver and nod. Your hand finds it’s way to mine, and I give it a light squeeze to comfort you.

You sniff. “T-thanks, Ichigo-san…”

“Don’t worry about it. Don’t even worry about it.” I rub circles into your palm, your knuckles, your fingers. The initial shock of this sudden event was replaced by my ‘mom mode’.

“Do you want anything? Do you feel dizzy?” 

“No..”

“Was it the cookies?”

You shake your head.

“I want.. I want to go outside.”

I let you hold onto my waist, and I attempt to give you a piggyback ride, but you’re just.. way too tall. So I just let your feet touch the ground, and slowly make my way to the front door.

“Mmh..” you nuzzle my neck, and I flush. This , combined with your slightly laboured breathing, sent the gears in my head spiralling out of control. 

Good god, you look so hot right now, I thought to myself. 

After what seemed like a whole One Piece later, we made it to the front door, and I dragged it open, careful not to let the door bump into you in any way.

The cold air hit us, along with the realisation that I had just spent a whole day with you. I flushed all over again, and for a second i thought my fever had come back.

I settled you down on the porch, where you let out a sigh of relief. You took in the cold night air, and soon your breathing stabilised.

“Thanks, Ichigo…san….” you whisper.

“No problem. Do you want me to stay with you until your aunt comes?”

You nod slightly. I sit next to you, and your hand finds it’s way to mine again.

“Ichigo-san…?”

“Yeah?” god, for once, will I EVER stop blushing at every little thing you do?

“I… I wish you were here sooner…” your voice seemed to drift away.

“ Can.. can you take me to my room…? I feel… so exhausted….”

Another ascension up the stairs, and I settle you at the top-most stair. 

“Wait here, okay? I’ll get everything ready.” 

By that I meant chucking that damned game out the window and cleaning up a bit. If this game made you nauseous every time you played it, why do you even still have it?

But you seemed to sense I would do that. “Don’t touch the game…It’s.. It’s very important to me.”

Drat. there goes my Idea.

I clean up the room as best as I can, then ease you into the plush mattress.

“Okay… there.. You better now?”

You nod, and snuggle into the pillows.

“Thank you…. I’ll.. see you tomorrow..?”

I flush for the thousandth time that day.

But I smile down at you. “Sure. at the library?”

You return the smile, and it’s the softest thing in the world. “Sure."
