Doing some of these texture studies to make sure I'm going back to basics. I don't tend to like doing metal to be honest but I need to work on my fur and lighting and this is a good way to start.

Lessons from drawing texture orbs

I've been trying to learn how to draw textures lately (see my full Art Study video for more details), and the most common approach I've seen is drawing texture orbs. The idea is that you reproduce a texture on an orb so you can get a sense of how it interacts with light and shadow.

The one problem with this is that orbs on their own don't help with close-up shadows, so I recommend adding a band around the center or adding some sort of filigree or adding a chip in it so you can show how it interacts with close-up shadows or unusual highlights.

Hello! I'm getting back into doing still life from observation with webbypaint!! (the free version) & I'm also doing drawabox - I'm on the plant step but I honestly cannot wait to hopefully get to the everyday object and vehicle step!! I think I might try to use some really cool looking watercolor marker brushes I just found in CSP to finish out my plant studies ( https://assets.clip-studio.com/en-us/detail?id=1682349 ). If I have enough time this upcoming year I want to try to do two challenges: plein airpril & the january heavypaint challenge along with finishing drawabox. We'll see how that goes :')

Research and Exploration sketchbook pages on the sheep bones, spiderwebs, and teeth/dentures. This was a visual response to the different horror-inspired sources I've been researching this term. As a part of this research, I was hoping to use the sheep teeth moulds I made in the clay workshop, however I haven't been able to retrieve them from the kiln yet. Texture was a key inspiration in this study, regardless.
