Hey there! I've said something before but now I want to say that your art is great and that you are responsible for getting me into Sherlock & co. But I have a burning question regarding your thoughts on Guy Richtie's Sherlock. Do you like it?
I actually do like it!!!
#I honestly went into the movies expecting not to enjoy it#it’s kind of the only Sherlock media my family had consumed before I got to it#and I’m not that big on rdj so I assumed they were gonna do it dirty#and listen I have qualms with aspects#the main one being they tried a little bit hard to make Sherlock ”cool”#(not that bbc isn’t guilty of this but)#BUT#the John/sherlock dynamic is actually really cute#I think it’s a bit of a different take but it’s also a lot of fun and I really did enjoy the movies#plus Jude law as Watson so I’m a happy camper#glad you’re enjoying the podcast too tho!!!#I love all the different iterations!!#my art#ask#sherlock holmes#john watson#johnlock

6, 8, & 22 for song ask game :)
Literally thank you for indulging my love of ask games, you're too sweet.
6. Probably the 2021 Remastered Version of Lonely Boy by The Black Keys??? I don't know why, really. It just always puts me in the best mood, plus it's an awesome song to sorta walk + dance along to on your commute if you have one. You gotta crank this one up with headphones on imo (safely ofc :))!!
8. I've long been a fan of Sara Bareilles, especially her song Fairytale. My (lovely, amazing, beautiful) mother used to play her music a lot around the house when I was younger, when her songs Love Song and Brave were doing really well so I guess I have fond memories. Fairytale is cute! Funny and a little catchy too.
22. Ohh ok so I have a few two actually-- these mostly remind me of just media I like instead of specific characters but I'm going to talk about it anyways.
Sunday in London by Kids That Fly gives me really sweet Sherlock & Co. energy. It's super sunny + lighthearted so not very murder-y but it kind of reminds me of the fun Sherlock-John-Mariana dynamic that works so well in the pod.
I don't know if you're a Merlin fan but The Ends and The Means by Robby Hecht never fails to remind me of what Albion is in my head. I don't know if it's the descriptions of a king + kingdom, the soft nature vibes, or something else but whatever it is-- I eat that shit up.

Established Relationship Pt 2 (June 2019)
Sherlock and John’s Wedding
New World, Old Words by thedeafwriter (G, 641 w., 1 Ch. || Deaf Sherlock, Sherlock Whump, Pining Sherlock, Marriage Proposal, Fluff, Always John) – It was disconcerting to experience. One second, he was laying on the table, breathing in the gas that would make him sleep, the next, he was dragging his eyes open to look around the bright room, trying to wake up.
This Isn't About the Bathtub by cypress_tree (G, 1,142 w., 1 Ch. || Marriage Proposal) – John and Sherlock go to Angelo's for dinner. In both of their pockets are rings they are going to propose with, but the other has no idea. John proposes first, and Sherlock answers by pulling out his engagement ring.
Our Bodies Bend Light by lovetincture (G, 1,211 w., 1 Ch. || Established Relationship, Fluff, Domestic Fluff, Beekeeping, Retirement) – They got married. Of course they got married. Snapshots in a relationship. There's a jar of bees in the bookstore and a cottage in Sussex. Sherlock's not the marrying kind, and John's tried this once before, but they're Sherlock and John. Of course.
A Metaphorical Gesture by cyparissus (T, 1,578 w., 1 Ch. || Marriage Proposal, Fluff) – "Sherlock, are you--" the words die in John's throat and he has to swallow and start again, "Are you asking me to marry you?"
and yes I said yes I will Yes by Mithen (T, 1,662 w., 1 Ch. || Fluff, Humour, Est. Rel. Marriage Proposal) – Sherlock has deduced that John is going to propose to him, and he's ready to accept. If only John would actually get around to it...
The Marriage Proposal Negotiation by Goddess_of_the_Night (G, 2,161 w., 1 Ch. || Dev. Rel., Possessive Sherlock, Insecure Sherlock, Fluff, First Kiss, Post Mary) – Sherlock hasn't ever really done anything the traditional way, so of course it wouldn't bother him to propose to John even though they're not even dating. And the fact that John is already on a date with someone else when he decides to do it? Tedious.
You Know, The Old Saying by songlin (T, 2,248 w., 1 Ch. || Wedding, Marriage Proposal, Fluff, Engagement) – "Marry me. I need to have you forever." Unrepentant husbands!Johnlock fluff.
Extraordinary by genesius (G, 2,860 w., 1 Ch. || Marriage Proposal, Sherlock Plays the Violin, Established Relationship, Morse Code, Fluff, One Shot) – Sherlock's deduced that John's going to Italy to buy him a violin. Even the greatest detective alive makes a few mistakes.
The General Idea by agirlsname (T, 3,022 w., 1 Ch. || Retirement, Promise of Forever / Proposal, POV John, First Kiss, Tooth-Rotting Fluff, Soft Sherlock, Idiots in Love, Crying / Emotional Sherlock, Love Confessions) – After twenty years of friendship, John is used to Sherlock acting weirdly. But the news Sherlock finally brings himself to deliver change the carefully built dynamics between them, and John realises it's time to act.
Engaged by lifeonmars (NR, 3,146 w., 1 Ch. || Marriage Proposal, Fluff, Holmes Family, Song Fic) – Sherlock did not believe in marriage, but he wanted to be married. He found this something of a surprise. Part 2 of Damage
And as the seasons change, I love you more by Teatrolley (NR, 3,219 w., 1 Ch. || Fluff and Angst, Est. Rel., Marriage / Proposal) – A year in the lives of John and Sherlock, essentially.
Bagged & Tagged by Regency (T, 3,339 w., 1 Ch. || Drunken Confessions, Fluff and Crack, Marriage Proposal) – A very inebriated John devises a clever means of proposing marriage to Sherlock. Unfortunately he's forgotten all about it by the next morning.
Rumpled by WhimsicalEthnographies (E, 3,601 w., 1 Ch. || Est. Rel., Insecure Sherlock, Fluff, PWP, Proposal, Bottomlock) – Then, halfway through a documentary on river otters that neither of them was paying attention to--how could John, with a gangly, limp consulting detective practically purring in his lap?--Sherlock suddenly bolted upright, looked at John with a perplexed expression and a crinkle above his nose, and blurted, “Marry me.” Part 4 of Longitudinal Cohort
Bolt Holes by PostcardsfromTheoryland (T, 4,177 w., 1 Ch. || H/C, Angst, Drug Mentions, Pining Sherlock) – John asked, one evening, if Sherlock liked her. To which he grudgingly had to say yes, and John said he was glad. Because John was going to propose to her.
Unforgiven by 221b_hound (M, 4,721 w., 1 Ch. || Marriage Proposal, Victor Trevor, Jealous / Protective John, Jealous Sherlock, Sherlock’s Past) – Sherlock’s latest case is for his ex boyfriend, the brilliant and handsome Professor Victor Trevor. John is not too happy about that. But things aren’t what they seem, an old friend of John’s is involved in the case, and John has a few surprises up his sleeve. Also - a proposal! Part 16 of Unkissed
Applied Linguistics by what_alchemy (M, 4,837 w., 1 Ch. || Possessive / Anxious Sherlock, Introspection, Bed Sharing, Past John Whump, Est. Rel., Marriage Proposal, Sherlock Loves John So Much, Word Play) – “He wants to shake John by the shoulders, wants to open his mouth and swallow John whole. Wants to marry him.” Sherlock searches for the right words.
What Happens in Vegas (is legally binding in the United Kingdom) by moonblossom (E, 5,051 w., 1 Ch. || Accidental Marriage, Friends to Husbands to Lovers, CSI Crossover, Fluff & Porn, Bathtub Sex, Hand Jobs, First Time) – When a case sends the boys to Vegas, John comes out of it with a bit more than he bargained for. Part 19 of Prompt Fills, Remixes, Works inspired by others
My First, My Only, and My Forever by vintagelilacs (E, 6,220 w., 1 Ch. || Post-ASiB, Virgin Sherlock, Pining Sherlock, Sherlock’s Bum, John’s Scar, Sherlock POV, Body Worship, Fingering, Bottomlock, Promise of Forever / Proposals, Misunderstanding, First Kiss/Time, Loss of Virginity, Virginity Kink, Seduction) – Sherlock narrowed his eyes. He was missing a vital piece of data, he was sure. John had been looking at him oddly ever since they left Buckingham Palace, and the ensuing incident with Irene Adler had only exacerbated his erratic behaviour. What was it? Why would he care that Sherlock was a virgin? There was nothing reminiscent of mockery or pity in his gaze. And then it hit him. John Watson was aroused.
A Silver Sixpence by _doodle (NC-17, 16,400 w., 2 Ch. || LJ Fic || For a Case / Case Fic, Fake Relationship, Humour, Romance, Marriage Proposal, Awkward Idiots, Cuddling, Touching, Kissing, Love Confessions, Bed Sharing, Friends to Lovers, Fake Until It’s Not, Schmoop and Fluff, Bottomlock) – “John, we need to get married. It’s for a case, not any romantic notions on my part pertaining to our partnership,” Sherlock said, with brutal honesty, and without even looking up.
Never-Ending Cycle by orphan_account (T, 17,211 w., 1 Ch. || Christmas, Est. Rel., Proposal, Fluff) – Or, four times Sherlock Holmes attempted to propose to John Watson, and the Christmas Party at which he finally did. Sherlock thinks he's a miserable failure, John is confused, Mrs. Hudson and Lestrade provide some unsatisfactory advice, and Mummy is, as always, the solution. All in a lovely, fluffy holiday theme.
About Sleep and Coffee and the Existence of Fate by Atiki (E, 17,426 w., 6 Ch. || Fluff, Marriage Proposal, Humour, 5+1) – Naturally, John was startled when suddenly the ultimate solution occurred to him: Marriage. This was, of course, a bit of a fundamental problem rather than an actual solution. One didn't simply use the words “Sherlock” and “marriage” within the same sentence. Not even in a hypothetical context. Five times John kind of wanted to propose to Sherlock, and one time he didn’t have to.
Permanent Fixture by vitruvianwatson (E, 18,836 w., 9 Ch || Post-S4, Parentlock, Slow Build, Friends to Lovers, They’re Good Parents, Blushing Sherlock, First Kiss/Time, Explicit Consent, Sexual Content, Emotional Hurt/Comfort, Mutual Pining, Big Feelings, Crying, First Kiss, Fluff, Anxious Sherlock, Inexperienced Sherlock, Emotional Communication, Love Confessions) – Now, as Rosie sat curled up against Sherlock’s side, John watched and wondered exactly how he had ended up here. Domesticity had never suited him before, not at any point in his life. His disastrous marriage had been proof of that. But somehow, here in the warmth and safety of 221B Baker Street, here with Sherlock Holmes reading medical jargon to his daughter, Sherlock’s bony feet nudging against his leg, John couldn’t imagine anyplace that would make him happier.
The One With the Proposal by kim47 (E, 22,375 w., 3 Ch. || Fluff, Romance, Marriage Proposal) – Proposing shouldn't be this difficult.
Sonatina in G Minor by SilentAuror (E, 22,574 w., 1 Ch. || Case Fic, POV Sherlock, Angst, UST, Sherlock’s Violin, Post-S3, Romance) – John has come back to Baker Street, but Sherlock doesn't understand the strange tension between them, even after he begins teaching John to play the violin at John's request.
a good old-fashioned happy ending by darcylindbergh (E, 32,731 w., 26 Ch. || Christmas, Frottage, Comfort, Est. Rel., Fluff, Insecure Sherlock, Frottage, Nightmares, Sleepy Sherlock, Marriage Proposal, Humour, Fluff, Dancing, Cooking, Happy Ending) – For Christmas this year, Sherlock wants to get John something special: something every fairytale deserves. Part 2 of things fairy tales are made of
Only To Be With You by SinceWhenDoYouCallMe_John (M, 40,768 w., 4 Ch. || Black Mirror / Future AU || Character Death, Future Technology, Sickness/Cancer/Illness, Heavy Angst with Happy Ending, First Person POV John, Pining John, Heart-Wrenching Angst, Promise of Forever) – I tell myself that next time I’ll come near this same place again. Wait around for the mysterious stranger in his coat to dash past me, hot on the heels of a new criminal in black. I think this all the way back to my Exit, planning where I’ll wait and what I’ll say when I see him. Scheming on how to get his name. It’s only once I reach the Exit Point door that I realize two hours and forty-five minutes have passed, and I realize that this won’t be the last time I Visit. It won’t be the last time at all.
The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse by SilentAuror (E, 50,635 w., 1 Ch. || Post-S4/S4 Divergence, Case Fic, For a Case / Reverse Fake-Relationship, Conferences, Marriage Equality, Travelling / New York, Pride, Homophobia, Bottomlock, Marriage Proposal, John POV, Sexuality, Love Confessions, Emotional Love Making, Public Hand Jobs, Blow Jobs, Passionate Kissing, Needy/Clingy Sherlock, Virgin Sherlock, Touching / Hand Holding, Bed Sharing, Little Spoon Sherlock, Intense Orgasms) – John and Sherlock go to New York to attend a conference run by the National Defence of Traditional Marriage Coalition in order to investigate the potential bombing of the annual Manhattan Pride parade. As the conference unfolds, John finds himself repulsed by the toxic ideology being presented, which becomes relevent to his own unacknowledged issues and his friendship with Sherlock...
Bridging the Ravine by SilentAuror (E, 58,887 w., 3 Ch. || Post S4, Couple For a Case, Bed-Sharing, First Times, Confessions, Awkwardness, Sex Trafficking, Massages, Wet T-Shirt Contest, Group Therapy, Past Loss of Child) – Sherlock and John go undercover at Ravine Valley, a therapy centre for same-sex male couples in an investigation into a possible human trafficking ring. As they pose as a couple and fake their way through the therapy sessions for the sake of the case, it quickly becomes difficult to avoid discussing their very real issues. Set roughly six nine months after series 4.
The Burning by SrebrnaFH (M, 60,658 w., 24 Ch. || Reverse Reichenbach, Suicide, Depression, Hurt Sherlock / John, Separation, BAMF John, Good Big Brother Mycroft, Angst, Implied/Referenced Torture, Fake Character Death, Rescue Mission, Reconciliation / Reunion, Hospitalization, Marriage Proposal, Illnesses, Physical Therapy, Happily Ever After) – Something went very, very wrong. John had seemed, if not happy, then reasonably content with his life. Sherlock had never predicted something like THIS might have happened. Not in his worst nightmares. He was the lousiest friend ever, apparently. At least Mycroft found him something to occupy his mind with, so that he didn't have to go back to 221B and stare at the walls and the chair, where John Watson would never sit again.
The Bells of King's College by SilentAuror (E, 64,019 w., 5 Ch. || Post-S4, Missed Opportunities, Angst with Happy Ending, Fake Relationship, Case Fic, John POV, Jealous John, John in Denial, Travelling / Holidays, Virgin Sherlock, Wedding Proposals) – It's only been two weeks since Eurus Holmes disrupted their lives when Mycroft sends John and Sherlock to Cambridge to pose as an engaged couple at a wedding show in the hopes of solving six unsolved deaths...
The Wedding Garments by cwb (E, 105,390 w., 36 Ch. || PODFIC AVAILABLE || Alternate Future AU || Alternate First Meeting, Dating / Arranged Marriages, Romance, First Kiss/Time, Heavy Petting, Cuddles, POV Sherlock, Virgin Sherlock, Idiots in Love, Slow Burn / Falling in Love / Dev. Rel., Nervous/Anxious Sherlock, Jealous/Cranky, Hiking, Vacation Homes / Honeymoon, Sherlock’s Family, Horny John/Sherlock, Patient John, Massages, Hand Jobs, Assassination Plots, Hand Jobs / Oral Sex, Case Fic, Emotional Love Making, Bath Time Fun) – This is the story of a young consulting detective who wants nothing to do with marriage and an army doctor who wants to find true love. It's 2020 post-Brexit England and the British government is encouraging arranged marriages. Candidates meet through state-run agencies and date in hopes of finding love (and tax benefits). Sherlock doesn't need or want a spouse, at least not until John Watson shows up. Hesitant to give in to his more carnal urges because of the way they derail his mind, how will Sherlock progress toward the more intimate aspects of a relationship? The answer lies in a very special wedding gift.
Proving A Point by elldotsee & J_Baillier (E, 186,270 w., 28 Ch. || Me Before You Fusion || Medical Realism, Insecure John, Depression, Romance, Angst, POV John, Sherlock Whump, Serious Illness, Doctor John, Injury Recovery, Assisted Suicide, Sherlock’s Violin, Awkward Sexual Situations, Alcoholism, Drugs, Idiots in Love, Slow Burn, Body Image, Friends to Lovers, Hurt / Comfort, Pain, Big Brother Mycroft, Intimacy, Anxiety, PTSD, Family Issues, Psychological Trauma, John Whump, Case Fics, Loneliness, Pain) – Invalided home from Afghanistan, running out of funds and convinced that his surgical career is over, John Watson accepts a mysterious job offer to provide care and companionship for a disabled person. Little does he know how much hangs in the balance of his performance as he settles into his new life at Musgrave Court.

Unpopular Opinion: Johnlock edition
So, I am, as invariably suggested by my blog and username, a major Sherlock fan. I absolutely love it. The first time I watched it, I immediately related to it, and my peabag brain instantly saw a friend in John Watson. Sherlock’s character, on the other hand, was quite unconventional to me. I couldn’t bring myself to quite like him for the first 2 episodes. He was.....different. I knew I wanted to watch the series just for the dynamic duo and their and sweet friendship. The cases I couldn’t at first care for much, but eventually that changed too. I always was completely amazed by how well they had managed to adapt the series to the 21st century and their subtle winks to the original canon too was quite impressive. Eventually, I fell in love with it, and proceeded to watch the entire series thrice. in a row. I was, and still am, completely obsessed.
Then came the thought, which was also somehow initially suggested subtly by the show itself, ” What if Sherlock and John are in Love?” I must agree, I had read too many conspiracy theories about certain celebs being closeted to not come up with that question.
At first it was just a thought. But then, critical analyses on tumblr came up. I couldn’t stop reading them?! and so many of them were thought-provoking and persuasive and honestly, I was living for it. The phone = heart theory is still one of the best Theories I’ve read among all the fandoms I’ve ever been in. And that is just one among many. JohnLock was everywhere. Other ships were persistent, but none could reach the amount of fervor as JohnLock. And I was living for it too. I still really enjoy all the adorable fanfics and the ever-interesting theories, and honestly, at this point, my motto is “I’ll find homoerotic subtext even if it kills me”.
Shipping is ok, shipping is good. But here’s the deal we need to talk about: we shouldn’t justify our ships to the point of interpreting every action as romantic. This propagates unrealistic expectations and results in harmful stereotypes.
Yes, I’m talking about the unending debate on Johnlock.
From season one itself, Johnlock was phenomenal. It is widely argued that the show-runners themselves inserted subtle hints, and hence, birthed this beast on their own. The Sherlock fandom remains one of the oldest fandoms in the world, with its beginnings rooted in the Nineteenth Century when ASiS was published, and since then many have argued about the latent homosexual subtext embedded into the writing, my point here being people have been shipping Johnlock for well over a hundred years. Hence, It’s not really a surprise that people are still drawn to this ship. But to be shipped by this magnitude of people? This invariably suggests that there’s material provided to us by the creators themselves that is very blatantly obvious about the relationship. And while in most cases shipping two characters is completely okay in itself, according to me, shipping Johnlock has further validation in the fact that there is proof of intent of it becoming canon eventually (at least in the first two seasons).
Like I said before, shipping is OK, shipping is good.
But is shipping okay if we take it to the point of over-analysing every move?
Sherlock is a comfort character for me. God knows half of my maladaptive daydreams are about him being a father figure towards me. My entire twitter tl and Tumblr dashboard is stuffed with cutesy or angsty things about him, and that’s great! But being in the fandom for about eight months, I’ve realised how this sort of feed eventually resulted in me completely forgetting the original storyline, and more importantly, in me forgetting how flawed a character Sherlock is!
Everyone(including me, the first time) freaks out in HLV because of how Sherlock isn’t listed as John’s pressure point. I, however, think we should question ourselves: Why should John still consider Sherlock that tantalizingly close to himself as he was in the beginning? John learnt his best friend had died, and he decided to do the bravest thing he could: make peace with it and move on. BUT NO! The Ghost of the man who loved him returned from the grave to haunt him! Here I talk about the other possible reasons why Sherlock wasn’t a pressure point for John in HLV.
I am tired of this constant sugarcoating of Sherlock’s character. I am tired of seeing constant posts about how Sweet and caring Sherlock is and how much he loves John and how he loved her more than Mary. I am done with over analysis of every single shot where Sherlock looks at John, completely done. This shot below? It’s been overused for so many fanfics and cheesy romantic lines that I forgot that it’s supposed to be a look of GUILT.
Anyone who knows me knows that I love sherlock so dearly because he’s a very unlikeable character. That is precisely what sets him so far apart from the other characters. Sherlock started off with a hateful and dismissive character, but through the course of the events he undergoes a lot of emotional development. And that is truly noteworthy. In TFP he said for Mycroft, “ He did the best he could (for Eurus)...” and that is truly sentimental. This sort of development is always heartwarming.
What I want people to understand is that Analysis is, obviously, important. And CRITICAL ANALYSIS more so. And it’s saddening to see so many people glossing over the critical part of the analysis. Why is it so wrong to point out HOW HURTFUL SHERLOCK’S ACTIONS TOWARDS JOHN HAVE BEEN? Why is it wrong to to point out Johnlockers borderline bully other shippers?
Can we finally talk about the problematic aspects of Johnlock, or rather Johnlockers?
Even though I’m relatively new to the fandom, I’ve noticed how dismissive people are of anything negative said about Sherlock. In the beginning, it was endearing, really; but now I see this pattern of constantly singing praises of Sherlock’s character, and it has lead me to realize how detrimental it can be to the relatively younger audiences. Sherlock is Rude, period. There’s no question about it. And this constant glorifying of his rudeness and arrogance and dismissing it as a quirk could very well possibly give the impression that arrogance and vanity are in fact not so bad, and hell, it might make one seem a little cooler even ! Oh, don’t be mad if I act like my comfort character ! I’m quirky like that !
Constant bashing of the creators. And when I say constant, I mean it. This sort of bashing about is never-ending. And when I say this, I don’t mean that the creators were perfect; some of their mistakes were, quite frankly, blatantly ignorant ( like Irene the Canon Lesbian falling for Sherlock), but I don’t see enough people praising it for what it is. Even now there is so much slander against the creators ( and personally I feel bad for Mark Gatiss because he’s actually on twitter and is constantly spammed). Is it really a surprise that the creators hate the fans and especially the Johnlockers? Was it supposed to be so shocking when Martin said that being in the show wasn’t very fun anymore because of the fans?
We just don’t actually analyze anymore! I get that we haven’t got any new content for FOUR muheffing years but please I literally don’t see anything that’s actually interesting or analytical anymore and that kills me because that was the reason I joined this fandom- to read and comprehend the subtext, and the AMAZING META! All I see are cute couple-ish pics of ben and Martin and tbh we can do so much better than that?!
Johnlockers have so much actual stuff to talk about? There is literally so much going on Subtextually, and yet all I see is people losing their mind over any interaction between Sherlock and John. This is so unfair! AND it’s detrimental too! With people painting every interaction as romantic in nature, the younger teenagers in this fandom who might not have experienced Love or Attraction may glean unrealistic ideas about them! It is difficult as it is to navigate oneself through romantic entanglements, let alone being fed such rose-colored ideas! And I say this because although I don’t know much about the audience on Tumblr, but Stan Twitter is like, (at least) 50 percent teenager-fuelled. It actually isn’t healthy for them at all.
Stop with the Benedict-worshipping for God’s sakes. Are you only in here because of him? We all get it, he’s absolutely stunning but come on, we’re here for the stories too right?
Romantic love is important, no doubt. But you know what’s completely overlooked? The platonic sort of love. And it’s tiring. Sherlock and Molly/Janine/Irene/John are all amazing duos and each pair has it’s own uniqueness and tang to it! Let’s not constantly dissect everything in the name of shipping, shall we?
lol looking back at it, I feel like it’s a vent rant for the prevailing circumstances on Stan Twitter. I apologize if anything I said hurt anyone, it wasn’t meant to. I completely understand that shipping people is for...recreation (?) but this was just my opinion. Let me know what you think about it!

So I watched Enola Holmes!
As a long time Sherlock Holmes book nerd, I... didn’t actually know if I was going to bother watching it. I pretty much avoid any published Sherlock Holmes fanfiction. It’s not because I think it’s all wrong or bad (there are some pretty famous successful ones out there after all). It just those stories always makes me wish I was reading the originals, I think because my own vision of that world is so strong.
But I also like Millie Bobby Brown, and also, honestly, I just wanted to see what a Henry Cavill Holmes would be like. Because as much as I like Henry Cavill, he’s very much not the guy I’d cast as Holmes.
That’s point number one: Sherlock Holmes is not that important in Enola Holmes. He’s a prop that holds up her story, but not much more. That was clear from the trailer, so I wasn’t expecting him to be anyway.
I also didn’t know that Enola was based on a book series, though I did assume so because of the way they have Enola address the audience directly or sometimes just stare into the camera. It seemed like a way to stylize a first person novel that has a lot of exposition. I haven’t read the books, and I’m not going to, so maybe I’m off on how its written, but anyway, I was right that the movie is based on books.
So as I started watching, I quickly felt concerned over these questions:
Why Sherlock Holmes at all?
Why make Mycroft such a bad guy?
Will Enola be interesting by herself or am I expected to find her interesting just because she’s a Holmes and a feminist?
Where is John Watson?
Now understanding that the movie is based on books, the answers to all these questions are obvious. But I didn’t want spoilers, so I didn’t look it up. Fortunately, the movie answers each question itself anyway.
So I can say it was a fun little movie. Millie Bobby Brown did a really good job. It’s not going to be the next blockbuster, but the quirky Holmes women, as well as the other quirky characters, were more than just entertaining to me. And I enjoyed the specific way they painted the backdrop of the women’s suffrage movement. In school you’re pretty much taught that it happened. It’s things like these - books and movies, etc - which may take creative liberties with history, but also showcase the details and grittiness that textbooks wash out.
And I did like Enola for herself. She’s like Anne of Green Gables if her hobby were puzzles instead of daydreams. I liked The Boy too (sorry I can’t be bothered to type his name! let’s call him Tooks). He was pleasantly ridiculous while being any teenage girl’s dreamboat. Does he qualify as a himbo?
The relationship between Enola and Tooks was cute and didn’t distract from everything else. I loved the framing of Enola’s injury tryng to rescue the sheep with her trying to rescue Tooks. At first, it was just sweet, but that scene at the end where we find out that she succeeded at rescuing the sheep totally cinched it for me. Although it’s the typical thing for a young heroine to do - go against her mother’s advice because she hasn’t experienced life enough to become so careful and calculating, and do the selfless thing - it also meant that Enola’s not just her mother’s puppet, she makes her own choices.
We’re seeing the dynamic of competent-woman-idiot-male-sidekick a bit more often, and the thing that always stands out is how rarely the male sidekick is ever really an idiot. Like Tooks, usually they get chances to be cool. So it’s not quite the same as the old trope of “hero rescues damsel in distress.” But honestly, nowadays, who’d want it to be? A totally passive character is boring. You rarely remember the damsel, only that the hero won her. Women actually like romance, we want to like and remember the love interest. :P And even then. The true hero/damsel trope appears rather historically that people think. Because, guess what, most writers like to write characters, not tropes.
The flip side of all this is that there is also a theme that’s becoming more and more common about feminism where the woman still ends up in a relationship, and it still being feminist. Like the recent Little Women movie, where Jo has to suffer and wrestle with herself for so long in her journey to achieve her dreams and in the end discovers marriage is part of her dream. None of this is wrong, but it is interesting how we see “lone feminist” as someone cold and sad about being alone, and are so quick to embrace the feminist who wants to be in a romantic relationship with men. The feminist can’t be whole if she’s sacrificed her ability to love for feminism. Meanwhile, in Enola, Sherlock Holmes, a man, is right there, being unmarried and uninterested in love and happy anyway.
None of this is Enola Holmes’s fault, it’s just a trend that I keep seeing in modern, uncomplicated feminist stories.
In sum, I liked Enola, I liked Tooks, the movie didn’t blow me out of the water or anything but I wasn’t expecting it too... I’m pretty sure this is for kids? In which case it’s fun and interesting the way Matilda or Pippi Longstocking are fun and interesting. As for the other questions...
Why Sherlock Holmes? Because he’s Sherlock Holmes. If you want to write about a female detective, and you want to do it against the backdrop of women’s suffrage in Victorian England, I think it’s only natural to make her a Holmes. That being said, Henry Cavill... is great, but not Sherlock Holmes. Bahaha. He has way too much chin. Who was that person, not Sherlock. RDJ was a more convincing Sherlock (and RDJ is not a convincing Sherlock!). That doesn’t mean I didn’t like him (I like RDJ too), it’s just a reminder that this is not a Sherlock Holmes movie. That’s why he doesn’t act much like Sherlock Holmes. Inspecting some coal dust does not a Sherlock Holmes make.
Why make Mycroft such a bad guy? Because Mycroft represents England. In the same way the assassin Enola kills says his employer is “England,” Mycroft’s job means the way he feels about Enola reflects the way England feels at the time about what a woman’s role should be. Why they made him such an idiot compared to Sherlock, though... Even after I answered these questions, I sometimes couldn’t help feeling “but it all feels so pointless when you’re just going to change so much of canon!”
Where the heck is John Watson? This one stumped me, but it is answered in the movie as well. I missed it because it wasn’t answered in a way I found satisfying. Pretty much, there’s no Watson because Holmes in Enola hasn’t met him yet. This makes no sense in terms of canon - timewise they’d have met a couple years ago, but canon Waston isn’t the best with dates, so I could overlook that - but Holmes is becoming popular. Holmes is becoming famous. Watson does that. Before Watson, Holmes is well known at Scotland Yard, but he’s more infamous than famous, and he’s not in many headlines partly because he makes an effort not to be. So Enola Holmes shouldn’t be well known at all if there’s no Watson praising him from the hilltops. I was half-expecting the movie to end with “pssst... Enola is the real Watson!” but I’m glad it didn’t. It sounds like Watson is a background character in the books so all of this was just “we couldn’t think of anything for Watson to do so we cut him.” But as weird as it is to ever see Holmes without Watson for me, if he’d been included he probably would have had like a couple stupid pro-patriarchy comments to make and that’s it. The Sherlockian me is baffled, but the wiser me thinks his absence is for the best.

It got deleted! Fire for the Marauders, Sherlock and SW (any era), guy preference, I'm a girl! I usually hate talking about myself and would rarely share but I'm kind and caring to people. Slytherin and proud. Bookworm who also likes movies. Hate chaos above all, I always have some kind of a schedule in my head. I analyze every detail and am a bit shy, I like being alone but don't mind people. Truly inexperienced in the romantic stuff. INTJ. A bit shy but would making jokes and sarcastic comment
Marauder Era:
I ship you with Remus Lupin!
Alright so you and Remus are the responsible friends of the group, actively bringing down the chaos levels (which, without you, would be insufferable). Together, the two of you bring some semblance of order to the Marauders lives, and trust me, it's much appreciated.
I have no doubt that the two of you met thanks to the bumbling idiot that is James Potter - you and James were paired together for a class in your first year, let's say astronomy, and he gets so behind in the class that the teacher has YOU get him back on track - something about a peer influence. Anyway, you march up to Gryffindor tower to find James and maybe,,,, I don't know,,,, get him to do his homework,,,, and he's hanging outside the portrait hole, making jokes with his friends. You try your best to be reasonable, and your just shy enough to not be rude or anything, but James and Sirius were infuriating first years and they didn't listen to you at all.
When you leave, defeated, Remus runs up after you and tells you he'll try to get James to do his Astronomy homework. You say thanks, and two weeks later, James seems to have taken whatever the brown haired boy said to heart, because he's doing his homework consistently. You decide it's high time you thank this guy for his service, and you start to write him a thank you letter (much less embarrassing than a verbal apology - this way you can't stutter over your words or anything) when you realize you don't know his name. Damn. So now you have to thank him in person, and you approach him before potions. You thank him and he's sheepish and humble about it. Then, before you leave, you make sure to ask him for his name - just in case. Remus Lupin. You tell him yours and that's the end of that.
You see him through the halls in your second and third years, and it isn't until your fourth year that the two of you have reason to speak to each other. You have Potions together, and your partners. For a whole two to three weeks the two of you are pleasant to each other but don't really talk much. Neither of you are great at starting conversations, and it isn't until you see James and Peter pull a very obvious prank on a Slytherin, and Remus cover for them that you actually have something to say to him. "You clearly just lied to the professor." "Me?" And you scoff, but all Remus says is "He doesn't know that, though. Will you keep my secret?" "Sure. Consider it part of my thanks for first year." And you don't think Remus would remember but he does.
After that, the two of you end up talking more, and your crush on the quiet, mischievous gryffindor grows. One time, you hear him arguing with Sirius, defending you, specifically, saying that not ALL slytherins are evil - you certainly aren't.
It's by fifth year that your crush is full blown, and when you have dada with the Gryffindors, you get a little sidetracked by Remus, and when a good friend of yours notices, they tease you mercilessly.
Meanwhile, the marauders are teasing Remus, because he too has a crush on you - one that makes him blush terrible and renders him tongue tied when you're nearby
One day you're walking to the quidditch pitch for the game, and your friend is teasing you terribly about your crush on Remus. You're digging your head into your scarf to hopefully hide your blush, when you run right into Remus. Your friend is quick to fall silent, but you're sure it's a little too late for that. He's no doubt heard.
But.... it's not? Or at the very least, Remus doesn't mention it, just apologizes with a bashful blush and keeps going.
Little do you know, Remus definitely heard it, and now Peter and Sirius are exasperated asking him why he didn't say anything when it was the perfect opportunity. He says it wasn't the right time! You were already thoroughly embarrassed. But now that he knows you like him back.... well, it bodes well for his confidence, which needs all the help it can get.
He approaches you one day in the library, days before the end of school. You're sitting at a table in the corner, actually relaxing for once, a favorite novel in front of you, and Remus hesitantly slides in across from you. For a long while, the two of you just read your own books, until you finish a chapter and look up at Remus. You say you have something for him - a letter, since school is ending soon. You start rambling about how you're going on a trip and it would be fun to write to eachother since you both appreciate history and you'll be going to a few museums and Remus smiles gently and says he'd love to write to you.
You smile, and Remus starts to tell you that he has the biggest crush on you, but he can't being himself to do it, so he talks about his summer plans, too.
When he gets back up to gryffindor tower he's kicking himself because he didn't tell you how he feels, but then he remembers your letter, and he decides to open it.
And in the letter, you tell him how you're almost certain that he heard your friends teasing that day before the quidditch match, when you bumped into him, but in case he didn't (or didn't believe it) you wanted to put the record straight - you like him, and you're terrible with words, so putting it in a letter is the best way you know how to tell him and not completely embarrass yourself.
And Remus runs back to the library to tell you that he got your letter and that he likes you - really likes you - back.
And hell yeah you write letters to eachother over the summer it's vvv sweet.
ANYWAY, you and Remus are a perfect match for each other I'm in love with the idea.
Sherlock:
I ship you with John Waston!
Okay, so both of you have such similar temperaments, I can really see the two of you working out.
You're both introverted, sarcastic, incredibly caring, detail oriented, and bookworms. While John isn't as scheduled as you are (how can you be with a friend like Sherlock Holmes?), he definitely sees the importance in routines and likes doing things in more practical and sensible ways.
Both of you are naturally curious, fairly versatile, and very determined, which makes for a good relationship since your traits and values match up.
I think that John would love the steadiness you being to his life - you are predictable and calm, and you're also independent and able to take care of yourself. John had a lot to worry about on the daily, so the fact that you are reliable is good for him. It allows for a lot of peace of mind.
John would be the one to bring you more in touch with your emotional side - he's a very emotional person, and also very mature. He would bring in a lot of interesting elements to the relationship - simultaneously bringing you out of your comfort zone while also validating your limits and respecting them. You would be an interesting couple to watch.
I love the idea of the two of your writing together for his blog - or you acting as a beta reader and helping him come up with names for each case. The two of you like to sneak in witty jokes and one of your favorite pastimes is seeing how many nonsensical things about Sherlock you can include.
Also! I imagine that your rational though process and your attention to detail is helpful in cases, sometimes, since Sherloxk can get so caught up in the moment and disregard certain elements that might have come in handy. Otherwise, you're great at remembering little things to put in the blog, which makes Sherlock smile.
And may I suggest..... watching movies with John Watson. For once, he is glad he doesn't have Sherlock talking in his ear, going on about the inaccuracies or about how ridiculous it all is. BUT, he finds himself telling you some of the things that Sherlock would say, and the two of you talk through the movie, chatting about what tropes you think are washed up, and what dynamics you love to death.
When you read, though, it's a different story and the two of you are quiet. John will make you a tea or coffee and you spend the day on the couch, just reading and enjoying the other's presence.
Star Wars:
I ship you with Commander Cody!
Alright, but we support clones on this blog, and commander Cody is one of the best clones.
First of all, both of you are very similar. Both of you are smart, determined, thoughtful and versatile people who would work well in sync with one another. You're not the most trusting of people, but one your loyalty is earned, it's earned for life and you would lay down your life for the other. You are both strong willed people, and yet you also carry a deep tenderness to you.
Cody absolutely loves how well read you are - he loves to listen to your stories (especially if they have a good, soft ending) and he loves the way you look at books - the little details you remember, the ideas that you hold onto. It's a great escape for him, listening to you talk about the novels you've read or listening to you read aloud. This world goes so fast and there's so much evil that he sees, so to hear something good - something slow that progresses to a happy ending - means the world to him. It's a little bit of softness he allows himself.
He also loves your shyness. He thinks it's cute, how someone so smart and strong - someone who by all means should have a healthy amount of confidence - is quiet and mostly goes under the radar. It's also a nice compliment to his more commanding presence.
You are both just humble enough to have great respect while also being just outgoing enough when you're in the right setting, and it's perfect. There's never confusion between the two of you over why you're more quiet in some places or more extroverted in others. You just understand the other.
You are also just so caring of others - Cody cared for his brothers more than anything in the world, and to find someone just as caring is good for him. He loves with his whole heart, and he's glad you do, too.
Oh, and the two of you together? The most sarcastic - the galaxy was unprepared for your combined energies, and it's been unstable ever since.
I also can't get enough of you together in the field - maybe you're a Jedi or a recruit pilot or something, but the two of you fighting together is peak. You're both smart and practical in your approach to things, and you're also very determined and ambitious - you would always have each others backs and you approach problems in the same way, so you work efficiently as well.
But, then again, the quiet moments the two of you share are pretty sweet - you force Cody into watching movies with you, and he actually gets really into them. He loves sci fi and fantasy, and he probably really likes silent films or foreign films too. Idk why, I just get the vibes.
Oh! And if you ever want a good laugh, ask Cody about the shenanigans that Obi-Wan pulls througho it the day. He gets so exasperated by all the little things that the Jedi pulls, and listening to him rant about them is very funny.
#2.5k celebration!#celebration#lxncelotships#alright but when did these just become me writing scenarios? i'm so sorry when i get an idea i just run with it

quarantine diaries: june 20 2020
Season 3 episode 1: “Wanheda: Part 1″
chris? oof chris is dead
ok so this explains where the dead body went but where did these guys go??
murphy does not look good at all. he would do so poorly in quarantine. locked up murphy also reminds me of jess from breaking bad
what is going on. ummm
too many people. thanos?? Dwight??
so they just did a time skip through john murphy?? they could have chose a more interesting character but also 86 days is nothing murphy. but i do i like how hes vlogging his experience tho. likes hes the shane dawson of the 100
oh my god! jaha is carrying murphy..lincoln and octavia who??? umm yes the ship is still strong even after the separation.
what a way to start a season tho but like kinda in a bad way. murphy is not my favorite character so yeah this intro was not really for me.
ok so why was it closed in the first
looks like they’re sticking with the same intro :/
woah this is what i like to see! yes bellamy fight lincoln!!! reminds me of the sherlock home movie intro.
ICE NATION?! are we going to meet Katara?
look at kane with a beard talking about real peace lol ok kane with these writers i just know that this wont last
MONTY!! looking good in a uniform
jasper shaved his head?! awww maya
bellamy and this girl?? theyre just gonna throw in this ship with no build up?? bitch waht?? ok fine but im calling it rn i bet this girl dies just for bellamy’s character development cuz there’s literally no other point to having this girl. but i will admit it was cute that she gave him a book
i wonder how many takes the water bucket to the face jasper’s actor had to do
hey hey hey chill jasper dont do that to my boy monty
lol i love jaspers salute into slapping bellamy like was that in the script or did the actor just come up with that on his own either way it was good
on the contrary raven i think that prettyboy bellamy is too good for her/whatever her name is
woooooow jasper blames monty? come on bro it was mostly bellamy and clarke
really who gave octavia a horse? but also since when did she learn how to horse ride because she her as hell didnt learn that on the ark
arkadia?? because of the ark?? ok
look at jasper just being an emo boy with his earbuds in. but also is that an ipod shuffle??? is raven steve jobs now? or where the heck did jasper get it?
what was that look jasper had with raven? ....ship?
wait that arm touch while miller sings let me make love to you...monty and miller a ship? you know what i ship it!
aww and look at bellamy with a smile kinda reminds me of this cat
this scene is just giving me all the feels!! i love it!
i gotta say tho i still really dont like octavia. i hate her even more on a horse i just find it pretentious
bellamy said screw protocol. love this chaotic energy. whatever the hell we want he said
but also bellamy said millers boyfriend?? waht?? so that like means that monty and miller might actually be come a thing tho right??? sorry not sorry that im literally shipping everyone with everyone
i dont like murphys hair now either. way too much gel
what a waste of an apple. that wasnt necessary at all murphy
we’re all kings said jaha. yes i like this attitude
stop it jaha. i dont think you can justice killing that many people
imo this is a very solid group even with octavia. like this is my favorite squad so far it has all my favorite characters bellamy, monty, miller, jasper, and raven (yeah thats right octavia is not my favorites list and neither is clarke)
the ice people with the white war paint remind me of that one racist movie that johnny depp was in
woah there jasper pretty bold and reckless there
lmao bellamy yells hold your fire after shooting the first shot
umm okaY OCTAVIA. nice throw.
oo bellamy said monty youre with me. yes yes yes monty and bellamy are my dream duo
what a beautiful black panther...what the heck clarke. clarke really is a crazy bitch to hunt a black panther
also i really hate her hair rn. like im getting such bad vibez but also clarke really became fluent in 3 months??? huh?? what is that about?
ooo the wristband.
if raven couldnt get down from the horse how did she get up there in the first place??
clarke is wanheda the commander of death umm really this is what the grounders think of clarke
that is not a good picture of clarke its like flynn rider and his wanted posters

question: i thought only the warriors knew english so why does this merchant know english
contraceptive implant removals??? calm down jackson that isnt a life or death procedure. but also damn these people really want to bring in new life into this crazy world?
side note where the hell is wick???
yeah abby fix yourself. preach raven
clarke and niylah... waht?? also the music choice for this scene was straight up weird. like watch the scene and tell me that it wasnt weird
octavia what is this?? octavia stop being salty bitch to lincoln. this is just such a weird dynamic. also octavia if youre gonna tell lincoln that “you can wear their jacket. but you’ll never be one of them” can you please fucking apply this about you really want to be a grounder. such a hypocrite
why does jaha need him? cuz it doesnt seem like murphy has an skill other than keeping himself alive
“pain hate envy those are the abcs of me”-murphy. who is this guy Eminem??
emori?? murphy is like i really dont want to go with jaha but i really into this girl shes the only person that doesnt hate me.
is that shaw mendes?? like is that really him because to be honest shawn mendes has a common face? i really dont know and i dont feel like looking it up. if it was a cameo then it was as weird as ed sheeran popping up in game of thrones
really octavia really. sleeping on the ground underneath the night sky?? bitch who do you think you are? you’ve been on the ground for less than a year and youre acting as if this grounder culture is all that you are. I also don’t like how she is trying to be more “grounder” than lincoln who literally grew up in that culture. idk guys i just get really weird vibes.
oooo get’em jasper that music was annoying me too
side note: but also who the fuck taught these kids how to drive a car cuz its not like anyone on the ark knows how to?? i get that its easy to drive a car but honestly my real beef is that we dont see them learning how to drive cuz i think that it would be funny af...unless please tell me they have flashbacks to them learning how to drive. if not, we were robbed.
great job clarke way to get yourself caught
this is the weakest season opening for this show ever like i gotta say that i really dont like this direction of this season rn

Long Time, No See: a Sherlock x OC Fanfic. My reaction after two years.
This story has spoilers for this fanfic, if you would like to read it before hand here is the link:
Long Time, No See
Masterlist
Each paragraph is a chapter.
Did I recycle names because I really did like the name Samara and didn't think it was getting enough love? Yes, I did. This is the prologue, explaining Sherlock and Samara's past together up until she leaves, moving in with her father and her 'half-brother' who just happens to be the evil James Moriarty. Then there is a cameo at the end by A.G.R.A.
This is creepy tbh. She was protecting him. So her father ended up being abusive, and to run away from it all she faked her death. Legally her last name is now Moriarty but she prefers Finley. It's always nice when you even surprise Mycroft. She's Queenie, best hacker in the world.
John trying to make small talk with Samara well she is making a firewall for the British government. John and Sherlock after finding out her sleep schedule is forcing her to go to bed. Sherlock admitted to John about being in love with her. I love Sherlock and Samara's dynamic.
A severed head in the fridge. When the blog Sherlock doesn't like is also the reason is his best friend is back with him after she read the last name, Moriarty. Sam coming to Sherlock's defense when coming to him deleting the solar system from his mind palace. She is so not bother by the fact there was a piece of glass in her face. Sherlock and Mycroft's sibling rilvarly tho. Scotland Yard is shaking at the idea of two Sherlocks.
A game of war. Moriarty. Carl Powers, their first case. Time to finish what they started. She got into the system. Botox. Her father run an insurance fraud ring.
It's time for war. He knows something she doesn't. She says she's more powerful than Mycroft and tbh she's not wrong. Moriarty isn't wrong tho. Hacking is her drug... Samara has a few ideas.
Yeah, Sherlock is going to ask about that later. That was a quick case. And a small bit of the truth comes out. Connie Prince.
Sherlock and Sam are freaking out Lestrade and it's perfect. Everyone who knows Sherlock always has the same questions for Sam. She defused that tension quickly. Sherlock has been almost killed a lot, if it hadn't been for Sam he and Mycoft would probably be dead.
This chapter just shows everyone how much pull she has any underground community. The way even the golem owes her favors and is on a nickname basis with him. The Van Buren supernova. She is going to kill her brother.
I do agree, it's time to fulfill that promise. King Midas just warned Sam about what her brother is planning. They are full siblings not just half siblings. This scene right here, proves even more to Sherlock how deep she is in the community how powerful she is that not even the assassins no matter how much they are being paid they will be loyal to Queenie.
Sherlock was wondering if her and King Midas ever dated and she was like sweetie he's gay. To which he let out a sigh of relief. She is going to the Buckingham palace in workout clothes at least it's not a sheet. All Hail John Watson, the king is sass. Samara, the bisexual icon. Irene Adler is her ex girlfriend.
Samara just saying she should have just broke it and it would have been less chit chat. She really does have a death wish, doesn't she? And Irene knows it too and annoyed with it. I forgot I made her an ex-sex addict.
She picked pocketed Sam's phone. When Sam uses Sherlock's actual first name, William. Then threatens to call his mother if he doesn't apologize. Irene Adler is dead.
Sherlock's worried about Sam. Sam fell in love with Irene, that was her mistake. She cut her brother's toe off with gardening shears. Sherlock doesn't know if he loves Sam. Never mind he does. Sam knows Irene is not dead. Sam had a rag of chloroform in her pocket, that's a little concerning tbh.
They started dating, Sam and Sherlock did. The tortured Soul reference though. If you don't know tortured soul is my Harry Potter fanfic and Athens is main character. When her brother calls her and says their parents wear assassinated. Irene Adler was sleeping in Sherlock's room. Irene pissed off Sam so she went to the gym and went Sherlock followed her he scared the shit out of her and she pinned him down.
Samara insulting Mycroft. Sam is pissed that Irene she's not even using her name she just saying Miss Adler. And Irene's just in shock everyone's in shock about how mad she is. Irene was under the command of James, her brother when she was with her. Irene admitted that she loved her but Samara said that she just realized that she never loved her and that she was a fill-in for Sherlock.
Irene Adler is dead. Her brother is calling her. She just has to go to the house to pick up some old photos of her and Sherlock that she hid underneath the floorboards. The moment she sees her brother she slaps him and don't blame her though. They're going to burn down the house that they were abused in because FUCK their father. And she is trying not to have a sibling bonding moment. And he just said shut up and listen. James was the one to put the hit out on them.
Sherlock planned romantic evening for him and Sam. So she gets a text from the American White House and then from her brother. She was a witness against her brother. Sherlock's in contempt for showing off.
James was found not guilty. Sam calling him out on his bullshit about the computer code. She is the queen of all hackers she would know if that code existed it doesn't. Assassins that Sam don't know are moving in around her and she doesn't like it. Penelope Garcia. So fun fact, there were two shows that I was debating for her to go to during the time Sherlock was in hiding taking down morarities web and one of them was NCIS LA and the one I actually went for was criminal minds cuz I thought about NCIS LA because of the fact I could explore her disguises and undercover identities but I decided with criminal minds and the FBI BAU because I just thought it would be better for her.
She just said his real first name again, he's in trouble. Breadcrumbs. The American President is offering her to work for the FBI for two year and then she'll be pardoned in America.
During the raid on Adlestone someone Chloroformed Samara and cut her wrists. She woke up in the hospital and she walked out of there. Just to see her brother's face in a cab. When Sherlock asked Sam if she 100 percent sure positive that she believes in him. I love that she just look at him and goes "Bloody hell, I am. You've been doing this longer than you have known me, Sherlock. Of course, I am sure." And I love that.
That's a good point. Does it count if they don't say his actual first name? She really just jumped out the window, didn't she? (Kitty Riley)-They won't hurt you infront of witnesses, Richard. (Samara)-Bet (Sherlock and John)- Sam no!| When she has her brother birth certificate to prove his existince. He just realized the fall wasn't a metaphor for anything. Sam just told Mycoft the key code isn't real and just realized how much he fucked up.
Sam knows something is up with Sherlock. He's on the rooftop. Sherlock is dead. Sherlock told her to accept the offer so she did. Greg is a good friend.
Hello FBI BAU. Penelope Garcia, her old friend. Fun facts, she's the one who taught Garcia how to hack, well at least in the store she did. She started deducing them already. Irene Adler. The team doesn't know she faked her death for a period of time. CIA agent Nielsen. The assassin after is the golem and the reason Irene went after her specifically is so she could get the golem off her back. And James may have a twin Richard Brooke.
Why wouldn't you do an autopsy on the criminal that almost beat Sherlock Holmes. She got her to give up the flash drive though. She just found out Sherlock saved Irene.
Sherlock os back from the dead. When they got to her apartment they has sex. Her last night in the US she played the piano for the team.
She is back in London. The people waiting for her at the airport is Sherlock, John and an old face she hasn't seen in a long time, Rose. But she's introduced as Mary. It's weird to see Sherlock flirt. Before he's so Samara at the FBI field office he didn't deduce anyone because he was so focused on seeing Sam again. They both just said no to a case. Sam was like not till Sherlock's done eating. Then Sherlock was like come back tomorrow we have plans today. They had a cute date night.
Samara and Mary AKA Rose are meeting for lunch. A.G.R.A. Sam just found out the whole team's dead. And she's Mary's maid of honor. Mary and John are taking bets on a Samara going to propose to Sherlock or is Sherlock going to propose to Samara. Telegrams. Sherlock's emotional part to his speech. Now to the funny stories. Samara really nailed it on the dot didn't she?
The major was stabbed and locked himself in his room. Sam and Sherlock are talking about their future.
A month after the wedding, Sherlock is found in a drug house. She walks into the hospital saying his full name, William Sherlock Scott Holmes. Charles Augustus Magnussen. I love Mycroft calling Samara out saying stop with that look and then her saying what luck and then him replying the look that says I know something you don't because it's connected to my past but I'm not going to reveal the until it's time. Her brother would be jealous of how Sherlock describes this criminal. Time for Samara to act like Queenie. He threatens Sherlock, she threatens his sister and his niece.
Charles is scared of Queenie. Sherlock just got shot by Mary. Samara ripped into Mary for for shooting her best friend. Sherlock knows that if Mary kills him Sam will kill Mary.
Sam admitted to being a big part of the lie. Sam explained that she is the reason Mary got in to his office. When Sam threatens every single assassin that if they even touch a member of the Holmes family they will be tortured. Then Sam admits psycho runs in the family. Sherlock just killed Charles Magnussen. Before getting on the plane, Sherlock asked Sam to move on from him. Then countrywide video of her brother saying did you miss me.
Mycroft pulled Sherlock from The deadly mission. Samara told John about Irene Adler while she was in America and Richard Brooke. Sam and Sherlock are going to be godparents. Sam just put Sherlock's phone in her bra to get him to stop texting. And they babysit baby Watson it's adorable. The Charlie Welsborough case. And something just caught Sherlock's attention.
Time for her to go to a payphone. On the other line was Ajay, cleaning Rose betrayed them. She's going to go talk to Rose. Sam had Mary tell her exactly how it played out. Now she has to talk to Ajay again.
John replaced himself with a balloon I always find that bit funny. I always find this episode funny because he goes on to lie to the sky saying that his wife's a spot and she's working for James and the just to find out she willing left him. I feel like it's all so proof that Sherlock Holmes has a sense of humor. Sherlock now knows that the bust breaking has something to do with A.G.R.A. Why is Garcia's ex calling her? He's warning her, saying she's in danger. James is alive. Her brother is alive.
Sherlock knows he's alive now, and so does Mary and John. Sherlock just found out A.G.R.A. is an organization of multiple people not just Mary's initials. He asked her to go back to the flat. Penelope Garcia now knows that Sam's brother had her ex-boyfriend at gunpoint. And Garcia just told Sam that Irene Adler is dead. Morocco. Mary forgot that Sam put tracking devices in the USBs. Queenie was A.G.R.A.s biggest secret. John just said Sam's main priority is keeping Sherlock alive. Sam is like a mother and she would be an awesome mother. Cuz she just made Ajay in the middle of pointing a gun at Mary made him give it up and threatened to smack him in the backside of the head.
Old habits die hard? I forgot I wrote that part. They really didn't think she was going to investigate Ammo? To the aquarium we go. Queenie is considered a reliable killer. Sam just pushed Sherlock out of the way of a bullet, hitting her. However, she's laughing because her jacket is made out of Kevlar. Sherlock still me to go to the hospital though.
Sherlock is going to propose. Sam suspect something and it's driving her crazy. She said yes.
She's telling her team that was back in America and about her brother they seem to be happy about the marriage but concerned about James. John convinced them to at least have a small wedding.
Sherlock was in a coma. That's my filling for the culverton Smith episode. Sherlock's secret sister. She hacked the British government to find out where Sherlock's sister was being held. The motion sensor bomb drone.
They broke into the facility, Sherlock didn't want Samara to go but Samara didn't give him a choice. Mycroft and Sam have such a brother sister relationship. And the facility has been compromised. The little girl in the plane. James praised her hacking skill to Sherlock's sister. And we are left on that scene where John's about to kill the governor.
John couldn't do it and hand it off to Sam. Sam took it without hesitation, apologized then shot him. The three are shook. Back to little girl. Sam has had enough of Mycroft's sass. Back to little girl after going into a room with only a computer. Oh shit Sam's pregnant.
Sam was knocked out before she got into the other room. And woke up in a different room without anyone else in there, well except her brother and Sebastian Moran. And Sebastian turns out to be an old fling. After her brother left, she was tortured and then knocked out. She woke up in the hospital. Samara had a miscarriage. Which led to a serious talk about them having kids in the future.
It's time for the wedding chapter. Her maid of honor is Mary. Her bridesmaids are Garcia and JJ. Sherlock's best man is John. His groomsman are Greg and his brother. Right now she's picking everyone up from the airport. The team is finding out about Sherlock's secret sister and that she was pregnant and then had a miscarriage. The vows are so sweet, they're officially married now.
He is so sweet. Sherlock can't cook and I find that funny. James has made an appearance in the flat. Lestrade came with a case. The bodies said "For Queenie" on them and you didn't want to tell Queenie.
She's confronting her crazy fan. He revealed the Oracle is alive. Oracle is the first person she ever killed it was in self-defense, but still. She's going to attempt to recruit her brother to keep on her side. James agreed to be on her side.
Samara is pregnant again. Sherlock is shook but happy. Mycroft has decided that the child will be spoiled. Greg has a thing for Mycroft. And James just found that she's pregnant.
The first ultrasound. The person claiming to be the oracle, his daughter. She didn't know how bad of a person her father was, harming 38 women.
The final chapter, it's a girl. Sacora Faith Holmes. I remember when I came up with that name for the kid, I was actually and study hall of my junior year of high school and I had everything planned out for the story in a notebook and that's what I would do during study hall. She has blue eyes. Her first word was crime scene. In the end Rosie and Sacora end up dating.
Overall, it is probably one of my better stories. I do notice in these stories I did forget to put a trigger warning. So my final rating is 9/10, took a point out for missing a trigger warning.

Sherlock Fic Recs (mostly lesser-known)
All right, I’ve recommended individual fics from time to time, and I certainly reblog fic rec lists, but this is the first time I’ve tried to assemble a Sherlock rec list of my own. I’m trying to select stories I’ve not seen often (or ever) on other lists for this, and they are in no particular order. Mind the tags. Nearly all are end-game Johnlock, although a couple are more gen.
Since this is my first time writing a fic rec list, please let me know if you enjoyed it.
A Telling Touch - by MikayoToudaiji, 91K, E, Sherlock Holmes/John Watson
Post-Reichenbach. After Sherlock’s death, John manages to get himself re-enlisted and is sent back to war. But when two series of gruesome murders link home and outland together, John is suddenly faced with more battles than he could have imagined. A Reunion, multi-chapter, case fic.
This is one of my go-to fics. John is grieving the loss of Sherlock and back in the army, this time in Syria, courtesy of Mycroft, when he is called home due to the mysterious death of Irene Adler. Irene was the latest victim of a serial killer, but she has managed to leave John a mysterious message. Sherlock does eventually return, but badly injured. There’s a fascinating case fic, a very different and totally platonic Mary Morstan, Sebastian Moran makes an appearance, and a Mummy Holmes who’s absolutely lovely. I find this story so emotionally rewarding, on many levels.
Follow My Voice - by flawedamythyst, 9K, T, Sherlock Holmes/John Watson
Sherlock's voice is all John has.
John is in a coma, and his only link back to the world is Sherlock’s voice. Told mostly from John’s perspective, the payoff when John finally wakes up is lovely.
Meeting Clara - by BlueSkye12, 2K, G, no pairings (pre-Johnlock, perhaps, if you squint)
John and Sherlock have a chance meeting with John's former sister-in-law and Sherlock learns a thing or two about John's return from Afghanistan.
Sherlock learns exactly how much damage John suffered from the bullet that brought him to London and that fateful meeting at St. Bart’s. Clara is very protective of John, even if he’s no longer her brother-in-law.
Bitter Sweet - by distantstarlight, 17K, E, Sherlock Holmes/John Watson
Alpha John Watson is a retired army doctor with a chance to acquire an omega mate. He meets the most unusual omega he’s ever encountered.
A somewhat unusual take on A/B/O dynamics, where alphas need to have a use in life, either with a satisfactory career or as a parent to the next generation. Omegas, including Sherlock, are bought at auction, which some may find disturbing, but there’s no indications of maltreatment on anyone’s part. It’s Sherlock who has all the power in this relationship, although he’s deleted the reasons why. John may have to pay the price for that.
The Art of Seduction series - by flawedamythyst, 97K across 6 works, T to E, Sherlock Holmes/John Watson, Sherlock Holmes/Jim Moriarty, Sherlock Holmes/many OMCs, John Watson/OMC, Mycroft Holmes/Greg Lestrade
Sherlock ran a website called The Science Of Seduction, on which he gave advice on the best ways to get laid, wrote blog entries detailing the results of his various sexual 'experiments' and generally contributed to the stereotype of 'every gay man is a sex-mad playboy'. John avoided the thing like the plague. AU in which Sherlock treats sex like he does crime in canon. Inspired by Queer As Folk UK, but it very quickly went its own way.
I love this series. Sherlock is obsessed, not with crime, but with sex. John is his flatmate and pretty much the only gay man in London with whom Sherlock has not slept. John pines, Sherlock sleeps with most of gay London, and they all go dancing every weekend. Then Jim shows up and ruins everything. Or does he?
Semper Fidelis - by Blind_Author, 57K, M, Sherlock Holmes/John Watson, Mycroft Holmes/Anthea
Written for a prompt. Moriarty frames John and "Anthea" of betrayals which cause both of the Holmes brothers to cut them off. Cue BAMF!John and BAMF!"Anthea" doing their best to clear their names.
John and Anthea go on the run after they are both framed the same day. They protect one another and bond over the idiocy of their respective Holmeses. Both are in established, if hidden, relationships. They bond while on the run.
Evidence of Human Life - by thesardine, 17K, E, Sherlock Holmes/John Watson
Sherlock's sanity deteriorates while he and John are stranded on a deserted island.
I basically summed this up in my personal bookmark as: Sherlock and John on a deserted island. They hunt seals, Sherlock periodically goes nuts, and they start having sex.
This Doesn’t Feel Like Falling - by Dark3Star, 148K, E, Sherlock Holmes/John Watson, pre Mycroft Holmes/Greg Lestrade
When he fell from St. Barts, Sherlock knew he loved John Watson. John couldn't love him back (or so he thinks). Now that he's back from the dead things are back to normal... sort of. When a serial killer targets increasingly high profile gay couples Sherlock is on the case. With a, possibly ill-advised, plan Sherlock and John go undercover as a couple to uncover the truth.
Part 1 of a series, although this is by far the largest part. Your classic “married for a case” trope, taken to the extreme. There’s a decent case fic, a lot of mutual pining, and some interesting wedding planning. Heed the warnings, there are some pretty graphic depictions of violence when they finally confront the murderer.
The Secret Identity of John Watson - by scifigrl47, 27K, G, John Watson/OFC (but don’t let that scare you!)
Taken out of context, John Watson leads a terrifying life. You have to wonder what those poor women he dates thinks of it, especially if John decides to try keeping one away from Sherlock, and Sherlock decides that it'd be best if he could get rid of her. After all, Mycroft's taught him a thing or two about removing potential 'problems.'
Told from the point of view of the bank girl John saves and then dates. Guys, I am a total Johnlock shipper, and so is everyone else in this crack-fest, although they aren’t actually together. Samantha and her girlfriends are an absolute riot, and their impressions of both John and Sherlock are hysterical.
Small Steps - by crossroadrain, 16K, unrated, Sherlock Holmes/John Watson
"It's John's birthday and all his army buddies have got him a prostitute for a laugh.
A/B/O fic, where Sherlock is an unwilling omega stripper hired to entertain for John’s birthday get-together with a bunch of his army buddies. When John takes him aside to protect him from his army buddies, he learns something more is going on. The writing is a little uneven, because the writer is not a native English speaker, but the story is quite good.
Endings - by Purple_Slippers_18, 3K, T, Sherlock Holmes/John Watson
Fifty years. Eighteen thousand two hundred and sixty two days. It was a long time to be alive, never mind the thirty-four years Sherlock had breathed before he'd met John, which the man in question most certainly did not. As far as Sherlock was concerned, his life – the one whose memories he hoarded like a dragon protecting caverns of stolen gold – began on that serendipitous January afternoon when two strangers met in the research labs at St. Bart's.
Not for those who can’t deal with MCD or find assisted suicide disturbing, but they’re so in love here. Retirement!Lock.
Body Language - by CeruleanDarkangelis,2K, T Sherlock Holmes/John Watson
There is a language to dancing; a call-and-response from one body to another. Even with the poncy kind of dancing I knew he was versed in, the kind that requires classes and counting and rules, there is communication between bodies. Watching him now, I’m more than pleased to discover that he understands my dialect as well.
This is just 2K of absolutely hot dancing seduction. There’s a follow-up fic, Touch Me, about what happens when they get home
Blind series - by inspiration_assaulted, 19K across 3 works, G to T, Sherlock Holmes/John Watson
Lt John Watson, 25, will do just about anything to stay in the Army, even if it means marrying a man he's never met. It's only for two years, and he'll probably be in Afghanistan the whole time. How much can his life really change?
Mycroft arranges a marriage between Sherlock and John, allowing John to stay in the army and Sherlock to pay for rehab. They write each other letters, but have never met. I originally read this story on FF.net and loved it. I was delighted to find it on AO3, which is easier on my eyes.
Words of One Syllable and At A Loss- GwendolynnFiction, 101K across 2 works on FF.net, M, Sherlock Holmes/John Watson
The landmine at Baskerville leaves Sherlock deafened. Unable to stand living without his friend John agrees to learn to sign, but foreign languages cannot be learned in a void. Sherlock helps John learn to sign by finally learning to talk to him.
This was one of my early favorites when I first started reading Sherlock stories on fanfiction.net. The author has slightly different versions up on AO3, but I find these much more enjoyable, as their relationship just seems to work better. The followup story is what happens during the Moriarty trial and after the fall, when Sherlock has to return unexpectedly after John goes missing.
The Otter and the Hedgehog - by Trinity Fire, 23K on FF.net, T, Sherlock Holmes/John Watson, Mycroft Holmes/Greg Lestrade.
Just when John and Sherlock think they have time to rest after a case, they get an unexpected surprise... Unexpected, yes, and fluffy!
This is a little uneven, and has a very awkward, very weird self-insert OC, but Sherlock the otter wandering around the flat tucking John the hedgehog into his scarf to carry him everywhere is just too cute!
Letters to a Soldier - by Pakmai, 70K on FF.net, T, Sherlock Holmes/John Watson
Captain John Watson is a soldier in Afghanistan. Sherlock Holmes has just been admitted to a drug rehab facility, assigned to write a letter to an unknown soldier. He doesn't expect to get a letter back from someone as interesting as John. John doesn't expect to get letter from a recovering drug addict. Together they form an unlikely friendship through letters.
I’ll admit, it’s been a while since I read this one, but this series turned me into a big fan of epistolary fics. The follow-up fic, Letters to a High-Functioning Sociopath, finished after I’d stopped reading regularly on FF, so I admit I don’t know how the series ended.
Flare - by iMusicalMinji, 6K on FF.net, T, Sherlock Holmes/John Watson
John has a lot to learn about an elusive species when he ends up living with one. Like how he doesn't have to change under a full moon, how he is fireproof even if he cannot breathe fire himself, and how he loves the doctor. MythicalCreature!AU
A sweet dragon!Lock story, with some parental elements. Sherlock’s hoard made me laugh, and then I thought about it and it made sense.

The Blind Banker rewatch
I didn’t rewatch when I got my special edition blue ray set in Jan because there wasn’t any commentary and I was anxious to get through it all.
This has always been my least favorite episode but I find I’m really enjoying it — Sherlock and John’s fledging relationship, how badly I want to slap Sebastian at the bank — this could be quite fun.
Oooh did he just call Sherlock a freak? John, punch him.
“A Wild Sherlock appears.”
The looks the others are giving him. The contempt in Sebastian’s voice, even as he’s asking for help. Anyone who was ever the weird kid growing up and continues to be the weird kid knows exactly how Sherlock is feeling.
Dimmock, don’t be a prick.
Sebastian is such a prick.
Sherlock is supposedly so rude but I notice he’s only really awful to those who have been rude to him. His crime is that he doesn’t suffer abuse from “superiors.” Like he introduces himself to Dimmock and offers to shake his hand. Instead Dimmock gets all high and mighty to try to put Sherlock in his place. So when Sherlock so condescendingly says “Now you’re finally asking the right questions l” and John is slightly embarrassed at the rudeness, Dimmock has it coming.
That little “she’s great”/“it’s great” exchange was amusing.
Spelling/word choice error in the online paper Sherlock is reading. It’s/its
Sherlock lecturing John in codes and cyphers is amusing, considering Benedict will play Alan Turing in a few years.
John getting caught with the paint is amusing. Oh shit! I forgot he actually got arrested and comes into the flat furious.
So why didn’t the strangler go ahead and kill Sherlock in Soo Lin’s flat?
Hahah Sherlock spinning John around and John just going completely rigid. Amusing. I’m trying to think of how many times Sherlock actually touches John and it’s not a lot.
You guys, you got Soo Lin killed by showing up.
Why is it that I’m kind of a sucker for the “sympathic male while a woman is telling a painful story” trope?
Why do they leave Soo Lin alone? Why?
Okay I forgot he shamelessly flirts with Molly to look at the bodies. Dammit, you’re so obvious Sherlock. Stand strong Molly!
Oh John’s so cute when asking Sarah out.
Sherlock crashing the date! John sounds like Fonzie. “Eeey”
John’s face when he says “this is ... art.”
What the hell was that look? When the drum starts up and Sarah sort of sways at John — Sherlock raises an eyebrow. Amusing.
I’m having so much fun analyzing the Sarah/Sherlock/John dynamic.
Way to beat the shit out of them Sarah!
Ohhh John, don’t ignore Sarah.
Sherlock wants her to drop dead. But she points out something they’ve missed. As always.
I enjoy Sarah. She was a good match for John. Of course, not as good as Mary and not as good as Sherlock, but I liked her character for establishing John and how he relates to people who are not Sherlock.
Damn. John punched and kidnapped. Again.
How many times does this happen in the series? I need to keep count. It’s like counting how many times people were knocked out in Lost.
Oh wow. John is freaked as hell here. He is reacting like a real person would act when threatened with a gun... not some action hero.
Three times they threatened him. Which three? Strangulation, museum, and at the circus I guess but they were all chance encounters. That does answer the question why the guy in Soo Lin’s apartment let Sherlock live.
You know, Sherlock could have called Lestrade or Mycroft here. Does Mycroft always have them under cctv surveillance or only when he wants to impress John? Or am I confusing omnipresent fanfic Mycroft with BBC Sherlock Mycroft?
I missed that moment where he has to choose between chasing Shan or letting Sarah free and Sherlock chooses Sarah. John saved Sarah’s life and he’s just left to crawl out from under the wreckage but oh well.
I like Sherlock’s smile when he tells the PA about the jade pin. It’s a real smile. And I love it that he sends John to collect from Sebastian and doesn’t even have to deal with the prick.
Oooh the striped jumper. There’s the striped jumper.
Putting this on Moriarty seems shoehorned into the episode, just like with the cab driver.
That was fun. I’m glad I went back to it.

Next in line, PJO!! Percabeth, Solangelo, Jason/Piper, Leo/Calypso, Frank/Hazel, Rachel/Percy, Reyna/Jason, Reyna/Percy, Hazel/Leo, Jason/Percy... Just going to add B99 and Sherlock too... Peraltiago (though everyone has the same answer?), Holt/Kevin, Rosa/Gina, Rosa/Amy, Charles/Genieveve, Terry/Yogurt, Terry/Sharon, Amy/Binders, Jake/Gummy Bears, Holt/Wuntch, Charles/Foodblogs, Johnlock, John/Mary, Sherlock/Molly, Sherlock/Moriarty... I should stop, I am going to go wild :P
Thanks for the string of great questions, you have no idea how much I love answering them!
PJO:
Percabeth: A. Not an A+ because my OTP for PJO are Jercicobeth (Percy x Nico x Jason x Annabeth) and Frazel, but I love them. I feel they’re the dynamic everyone thinks Romione has, but actually fun and carefree and friendshipable while also shippable, you know? My babies.
Solangelo: Extra Credit. I know everyone on tumblr loved them, but I never got into it. I was already into Percico before the Big Reveal, so I headcanon they dated for a while before mutually breaking up and becoming really good friends.
Jason/Piper: A. I like them. They’re sweet, they’re fun. I didn’t really enjoy he early books shenanigans of memory loss and what not, but they grew on me.
Leo/Calypso: B. It was quite sweet at the time, I guess. I just never really got invested in Calypso before it, so I was quite “whaaat?” at it, but they do work pretty well.
Frank/Hazel: A +. So sweet, so tender, so perfect. They’re like al the romantic and familial dysfunction of Olympus turned inside out, revealing something beautiful and pure and amazing. I wish we got to see more of them.
Rachel/Percy: Extra credit. Rachel was the fun, reliable friend Percy needed, Percy was the wildness Rachel craved. They’re great teenager bffs. I wish people hated less on Rachel, she does not deserve it.
Reyna/Jason: Extra Credit tbh.
Reyna/Percy: Extra Credit/B. I headcanon Reyna as a lesbian but if I had to pick a guy it’d be Percy.
Hazel/Leo: Extra Credit/B. They’re so great as friends, but I’d not be mad if they went the romantic direction.
Jason/Percy: A. Refer to Percabeth.
B99:
Peraltiago: Did it here, but yeah, I agree with you, it’s pretty unanimous.
Holt/Kevin: A. They are just so AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA. I love them. My dads.
Rosa/Gina: E. I get why people ship it, but I’m not Gina’s biggest fan. She’s mean, arrogant, bores me, only a good friend at specific times and then a really not so good friend, sloppy at her job... And I like Rosa too much for that.
Rosa/Amy: Extra Credit/A. Yes I love Peraltiago but... Damn. I’d not have been angry had they gone this way. They are just so “omg my heart”.
Charles/Genieveve: C. Yeah, they’re cute but she’s rarely there, it’s a nice, stable ship.
Terry/Yogurt: A+. TERRY LOVES YOUGURT. YOUGURT GIVES TERRY A LOT OF NUTRITON.
Terry/Sharon: Same as Charles/Genieveve.
Amy/Binders: A. “Ummm, new binder smell!”
Jake/Gummy Bears: F. A toxic relationship Jake needs to let go off.
Holt/Wuntch: Are there really people who ship it? He’s gay and she’s... Wuntch. F.
Charles/Foodblogs: B. Bit obsessive, overall cute.
(I tried to be humorous but I have an issue with crackships idk why).
Sherlock:
Johnlock: A+. I love them. They’re a family.
John/Mary: F. Look, they’re just a mess and not the good kind, either.
Sherlock/Molly: F. He was very mean to her and she deserves better.
Sherlock/Moriarty: F-. I’ll never understand shipping someone with someone that almost drove them crazy and enyed their pain.
Send me a ship and I’ll grade it!

Ok so there are two parts why: personally and canonically XD
Ok so how I even started thinking about it was when I was looking up Riley from Inside Out, I think? Cause I thought she was a guy in the trailer and i looked on the interwebs to see if other people had the same thought but then I saw a post by Disney Confessions that said they thought she was a Demiboy or Demigirl or something like that and i was like Oooh that makes sense (that was also when I found out about that particular gender identity I think) and as I kept scrolling through Disney Confessions i think(??? This was a while ago so Idk) someone said they thought Hiro was aro ace or asexual romantic something or I dunno and then I remembered when I watched the movie like how they first introduced Gogo when she flipped her hair and took off her helmet, which is totally used as a Meet Cute™ moment in most stuff, and how my first thought was ooghhh here we go again but nothing happened with them the rest of the movie even at the end.
And then there was the pink blast seen when honey took her glasses off and I was like oh Geeze™ but still, nothing happened and I was just so happy it went the whole movie without romance and focused on building family dynamics. Nevermind age gaps because cartoons don't care about young men having crushes on older teen girls (Ferb and Vanessa, bubblegum and Finn, dipper and Wendy). And so I was like YEAH I CAN GET BEHIND THAT and so I did. I was around Hiro's age when I found out I was asexual and when I first watched the movie and so it was super cool I could just have the headcanon and like never have it debunked unless another movie came out or something-
And low and behold BIG HERO SIX THE SERIES and gosh a part of me was like leave the gosh darn movie alone and by itself but also I really wanted to see more of my faves, especially Tadashi because I wrote a very long fanfic of him and my oc his boyfriend with legit like only 20 minutes of Tadashi screen time. (Its called Tadashi Hamada Is Mine btw go check it out) and so I watched it and while watching it I was extremely disappointed how one dimensional the show made them, cause when you just have a movie you can imagine the characters as three dimensional as you like by inferencing stuff from montages in the movie and little things like how they move and look at each other and stuff but now you have the show that just makes Gogo the edgy one and Honey the super bright one and just archetypes that aren’t that interesting anymore.
And then they introduce these girls like Karmi and Trina and I'm like they can NOT actually be trying to give him romantic interests like are you serious?? And as I watch I notice just how uncomfortable Hiro is with her. Like at first he's seriously trying to be her friend and work with her but she’s so mean to him and for no good reason?? Like, even when she is being awful to deal with he still tries being nice and when he finds out Karmi has a crush on his hero side he gets all uncomfortable, ESPECIALLY in the fanfic episode because, yeah, who wouldn’t? It’s like one direction or kpop or youtube ship fics, it’s weird! but especially cause he isn’t interested in romance at all! He’s even annoyed that people are shipping him with Karmi in that one scene, which furthers the idea that he’s not interested at all in her.
there was that moment in the episode that Karmi met that female scientist and Hiro was jealous, and usually, cartoons make an effort to have the mc’s friends tease them about having a crush on romantic interest AKA Karmi, but the bh6 crew only commented on his jealousy for not winning the thing.
Then Trina, he was more interested in the Botfights than her, really. He blushed after she complimented his bot-building skills because he was flattered. Creating is his main focus, his passion, and obviously, it feels nice to have that recognized, which is also why he tries so hard at school and against Karmi and to live up to Tadashi. (though yeah i could be looking wayyyy to deep into it(cause i am XD)) Anyway, he becomes Trina’s mentor, and it’s a nice change for him because after probably building stuff on his own and having Tadashi there to support him, and then losing Tadashi and having all these people at college around him just as good or even better at it than him, he started to feel, as Honey put it, insecure. Being a hero gives him confidence, which is why he’s always working on updates for their suits. The bot fighter episode was about his gambling addiction and someone being a bad influence on him, similar to Emmet and his alter ego in the Lego Movie 2. He was supposed to see himself as her, not with her.
Also there’s this:
which kinda debunks my headcanon, but there was a reason it was taken out, right? Like, the writers changed their minds and decided he wouldn’t have a crush on her! So, like, his preferences, or lack thereof, are still up in the air!!
Also, it follows through the aroace scientist thing fandom has going, like for Sherlock before people shipped him with John, or Pidge from Voltron, and characters in anime that outright say romance is stupid because they're only focused on projects.
Outside of that, it just makes me happy to have some plausible aroace rep. I'm demihetro ace myself, but it’s nice to be able to see a main character in a cartoon series not have to pay romance any attention or even want it when it inevitably comes up in conversation. Does that make sense?? anyway yeah Long Live AroAce Hiro Hamada™, he baby

Notes on Season 14- Part 2 (contains spoilers, are mostly complaints about Torres and Quinn, and are my personal opinions, don’t @ me)
Since Season 14 started rerunning in Australia on 9 October, I’ve decided to write down things I forgot or would like to emphasise upon:
Keep Going
Jimmy immediately running up to Ryan without a second thought, aww
Torres trying to be the hero, seriously?
Suicide is such an important, delicate topic, and it was done really well (with great acting, too)
Quinn is such a buzzkill, ugh
This dialogue is truly summing up millennial work experiences
Torres is such a dumbass, and not a cute one
Jimmy talking about Gibbs was so adorable and sad
Jimmy passing the M.E. test but not telling anyone because he didn’t want things to change was so relatable, I would’ve done the same thing
Tears were in my eyes since halfway through the episode, but the hug was what made them fall out
All those flashbacks throughout the episode brought back so many memories, and gave us great insight into Jimmy’s character
WHY COULDN’T REEVES HAVE BEEN THE THIRD AGENT SO TORRES AND QUINN WOULD HAVE NEVER EXISTED AND CBS WOULD’VE SAVED HEAPS OF MONEY HIRING ONE MAIN CHARACTER THAT AUDIENCES ALREADY KNEW AND LOVED INSTEAD OF TWO NEW ANNOYING ONES
Nonstop
Torres really is terrible at inferring and keeping up with conversations
The Sherlocks back at it again, plus Senior, aww
Everyone calling Jimmy ‘Doctor’ was so sweet
I love how they still don’t know what Lyle’s last name is
Does Quinn really have to insult everything and everyone she comes across?
Osorio shutting Torres’ obnoxiousness down was awesome
Bishop smashing the window was so badass
The clothes-swapping was pretty ingenious, and so was the interrogation bluff
WHY COULDN’T REEVES HAVE BEEN THE THIRD AGENT SO TORRES AND QUINN WOULD HAVE NEVER EXISTED AND CBS WOULD’VE SAVED HEAPS OF MONEY HIRING ONE MAIN CHARACTER THAT AUDIENCES ALREADY KNEW AND LOVED INSTEAD OF TWO NEW ANNOYING ONES
A Many Splendored Thing (Ep. 16, but for some reason it aired as Ep. 15)
Torres was such a dick about the pickpocketing, especially the fact that spilling coffee definitely isn’t a small thing, and Gibbs pickpocketing Torres was great- he got what was coming to him
Bishop’s wallpaper on her phone is the Washington Monument, so sweet
Stop complaining about first-world problems, Quinn- there are people with real ones, plus you should be focusing on the case
Reeves defending Bishop when he didn’t have to, aww
The congresswoman is okay, but I’m glad she and Vance didn’t become a proper thing- Jackie is his soulmate, and I don’t ship him with anyone else
Chen-turning-up-in-Gibbs’-house was a great plot twist, and so was him working with the CIA
Bishop and Reeves’ argument was so important, and so was Bishop and Qasim’s in the flashback
Quinn really does love stating the obvious, and Torres really does love doubting Bishop’s intentions
Bishop being a total badass was so awesome, and her ‘Sophie’s Choice’ plan was so poignant
The Qasim flashbacks throughout the episode were so sad
WHY COULDN’T REEVES HAVE BEEN THE THIRD AGENT SO TORRES AND QUINN WOULD HAVE NEVER EXISTED AND CBS WOULD’VE SAVED HEAPS OF MONEY HIRING ONE MAIN CHARACTER THAT AUDIENCES ALREADY KNEW AND LOVED INSTEAD OF TWO NEW ANNOYING ONES
What Lies Above (Ep. 17, but for some reason it aired as Ep. 16)
Of course Quinn’s being annoying as always, with her trying to get people to ask questions about her by saying elusive, secretive statements
I love the fact that Rosebud is hidden in a hollowed-out copy of Deep Six
‘Furrier’ is a questionable word (my mind immediately went to ‘furry courier’)
Why does Torres always have to be such a show-off
When someone has unnaturally-coloured hair, you know that they’re going to be important to the plot
The whole body-under-the-floorboards thing was very Edgar Allan Poe
Torres and Quinn are such hypocrites
The congresswoman was pretty annoying this episode
Torres said he could keep a secret- flashforward to S16 when he spilled the beans :/
Kate and Ziva, aww
Paul Triff was definitely an entertaining addition to this episode, and I really liked the storyline
M.I.A. (Ep. 18, but for some reason it aired as Ep. 17)
Quinn is such a dick even to waitstaff, ugh
Why is Torres so God. Damn. Annoying.
‘the more you talk the worse it gets’ hypocrite much, Torres?
Abby’s new thing with putting Caf-POW! in stuff is interesting, to say the least
I love it when Gibbs just puts the baseball bat over his shoulder and acts otherwise normally
Shut up Torres, she’s just trying to be nice to you and sympathetic to your experiences, so you could at least answer her politely instead of being an asshole about it
Lieutenant, you’re so pure and don’t have to apologise at all, especially to Torres
How are McGee and Bishop surprised that Quinn cheated on something, especially since it wasn’t mandatory (though I don’t know if it would’ve made much of a difference to her)
The end scene was sweet, but it wasn’t enough to make me feel sympathetic for Torres
Torres was such a douchebag in this episode, especially him talking about how much he loved Sofia- if he loved her so much, then why has he consistently been dating and playing with multiple girls’ feelings (including poor Bishop’s) since then
WHY COULDN’T REEVES HAVE BEEN THE THIRD AGENT SO TORRES AND QUINN WOULD HAVE NEVER EXISTED AND CBS WOULD’VE SAVED HEAPS OF MONEY HIRING ONE MAIN CHARACTER THAT AUDIENCES ALREADY KNEW AND LOVED INSTEAD OF TWO NEW ANNOYING ONES
The Wall (Ep. 19, but for some reason it aired as Ep. 18)
I kinda wish Torres and Quinn became an actual thing- it would’ve prevented Ellick from happening
Stop being so disrespectful, Torres, he’s a person with feelings
Poor Reeves- he’s so used to being alone that he self-destructs and isolates himself at every chance
Abby’s welcome mat for Henry was such a nice thing to do
The scene with Henry at the wall was so sad, and so was Gibbs and Reeves’ conversation in the car
Again, Quinn’s stating the obvious and being annoying about it
Torres and Quinn are so gross, but perfect for each other
The end scene was so sweet, it made me tear up straight away
Henry was the best part of the episode, and his and Reeves’ interactions were great and so important
A Bowl Of Cherries (Ep. 20, but for some reason it aired as Ep. 19)
Quinn’s mother is just as rude as she is
Reeves complimenting Bishop, aww
Vice Admiral Chase sending McGee the virus so he’d be forced to get rid of it was hilarious, you can’t deny
Torres is so self-obsessed
Bishop knows Reeves so well, too adorable
Gibbs’ little joke was pretty good
Ducky and Jimmy just sitting around and waiting for the bodies to thaw was awesome
Bishop and Reeves make such a great team whenever they pair up, and this episode was no exception
One Book, Two Covers (Ep. 21, but for some reason it aired as Ep. 20)
Torres is just so gross and inappropriate, it’s great whenever someone shuts him down
You chose to do all the things you’re whining about, Torres- you can’t complain
I love Vance’s analogies
That’s the second time by my count that the John Paul Joneses have been mentioned in this show
Oof, poor Bishop
Shut up Quinn, you know they’re not gonna talk that easily
I hate how Torres never thinks he’s wrong, and his writing is seriously messy- even more so than mine
Never underestimate Abby, Quinn- you should know better than that
I’m surprised Torres wasn’t fired when he resurfaced from undercover- the more his backstory is explored, the more of his misconduct is revealed
I know this episode was meant to make people like Torres and feel sympathetic for him more, but it just solidified my hatred for him
WHY COULDN’T REEVES HAVE BEEN THE THIRD AGENT SO TORRES AND QUINN WOULD HAVE NEVER EXISTED AND CBS WOULD’VE SAVED HEAPS OF MONEY HIRING ONE MAIN CHARACTER THAT AUDIENCES ALREADY KNEW AND LOVED INSTEAD OF TWO NEW ANNOYING ONES
Beastmaster (originally Ep. 22, but for some reason it aired as Ep. 21)
Torres knows all about sexual harassment, no wonder he volunteered to teach the class
Torres being misogynistic not even five minutes in, ugh
‘how do you know that’ ‘he dated Abby’ was pretty funny
Quinn, nobody trusts you
Bishop knows six languages, I’m not surprised
The pot guy’s joke was actually pretty good
Could you say someone died in a more offensive way, Quinn?
Reeves and the pepper spray scene was hilarious
Oof, I knew Spitz would find a way to get herself in trouble- she’s a classic SJW (which isn’t a bad thing, but violating boundaries is)
The scene between Vance and the Ambassador was really sweet, and showed solidarity and empowerment
Gibbs and Dawson had such a great dynamic
Reeves was even more dashing than usual this episode- idk why
Poaching is such an important topic, I’m really glad there was an episode about it
WHY COULDN’T REEVES HAVE BEEN THE THIRD AGENT SO TORRES AND QUINN WOULD HAVE NEVER EXISTED AND CBS WOULD’VE SAVED HEAPS OF MONEY HIRING ONE MAIN CHARACTER THAT AUDIENCES ALREADY KNEW AND LOVED INSTEAD OF TWO NEW ANNOYING ONES
Something Blue (Ep. 23, but for some reason it aired as Ep. 22)
Reeves looks insanely hot no matter what he’s wearing, and Abby in her suit was absolutely incredible
Jimmy, you’re so adorable
Torres, don’t be such a dick- that song’s perfect for Delilah and McGee
I love how NCIS shows all the different jobs that the military has, not just combat
Vance’s advice to McGee was so sweet
Stop complaining, Quinn- YOU CHOSE THIS JOB
Delilah and Abby were right- McGee was kind of being a dick about the wedding planning
Quinn unknowingly insulting Torres was actually pretty great, and called out his misogynistic personality
The hospital scene with Gibbs and McGee was so heartbreaking and reminiscent of the S11 one, and the acting was incredible
Bishop playfully teasing Reeves was so cute, and them going undercover as boyfriend and girlfriend, COME ON
‘on what charge’ ‘doubting my accent’ was hilarious
Reeves leaning in close to Bishop, aww
Reeves and Bishop turning to look at each other straightaway, COME ON
The wedding was really cute, and Gibbs giving McGee his dad’s watch was so sweet, as well as the engraving on it
WHY COULDN’T REEVES HAVE BEEN THE THIRD AGENT SO TORRES AND QUINN WOULD HAVE NEVER EXISTED AND CBS WOULD’VE SAVED HEAPS OF MONEY HIRING ONE MAIN CHARACTER THAT AUDIENCES ALREADY KNEW AND LOVED INSTEAD OF TWO NEW ANNOYING ONES
Rendezvous (Ep. 24, but for some reason it aired as Ep. 23)
Abby’s baby shower idea was really sweet
Bishop and Reeves turning to look at each other was very Tiva-reminiscent
Torres, must you insult everyone and everything?
‘I’d rather be stuck in an elevator with Justin Bieber than back here’ great line
Just suck it up and do it yourself, Quinn- don’t force poor Bishop to do it
This Curtis guy is so slimy and gross
‘who wants to tell this bloke we found his missing hand’ Reeves, you’re killing me
Vance looking up when he heard Gibbs’ voice as if he was God was so funny
McGee’s come such a long way since his first episode, so proud
Bishop and Reeves were standing super-close this episode- it was so cute
WHY COULDN’T REEVES HAVE BEEN THE THIRD AGENT SO TORRES AND QUINN WOULD HAVE NEVER EXISTED AND CBS WOULD’VE SAVED HEAPS OF MONEY HIRING ONE MAIN CHARACTER THAT AUDIENCES ALREADY KNEW AND LOVED INSTEAD OF TWO NEW ANNOYING ONES

(1/?) This is a weird question that has probably been answered multiple times, but, what am I supposed to think of what Mary said at the end of TFP? The whole "my baker street boys" speech. After reading a lot of your meta about Mary, I am utterly convinced that she did not like Sherlock and John's relationship, and she really wanted to rub marriage in Sherlock's face whenever she had the chance. I also think that most of the reason she shot/tried to kill Sherlock was because of her-
(2/?) possessiveness over John. So why did she go from emotionally abusing them to "i know what you are and what you can become". I don't really know how to phrase it, but I just can't believe that she would give consent to their relationship maybe being more platonic, when her intentions always seemed the complete opposite?
Hi Nonny!
I’ve actually never answered this with my opinion before, namely because no one’s asked, LOL <3
So anyone who doesn’t know or are new here, I spent a lot of time analysing Mary’s character as a way to help me cope and understand what was happening in my real life, and because I found her character fascinating until S4 came around. I believe I was the first blog to first use “the mary problem” as, well, the Mary problem came around, so I’ve a LOT of posts about the progression of my realization about Mary’s character. So yes, this is what Nonny is referencing... essentially it was my RIDICULOUS dedication to study her character and understand my own emotional abuse in a way I could process without feeling too much pain. So perhaps there might be some projection, but I just wanted to share with people my findings and help people understand that emotional abuse – Mary’s brand of abuse – is very real and leaves scars too.
So yeah, I really do honestly like answering questions about Mary’s character and her role in their dynamic, and I feel like this one is actually pretty simple once I tell you why she said what she said at the end there.
There’s two ways you can interpret it – real or not – but both of them DO coincide with Mary’s possessiveness over not only John but her need to control every aspect of John’s life.
When we first meet Mary, what’s in the very first dialogue with John that she implies? She interrupts John – who is struggling with his decision in the first place to propose to Mary – makes fun of him (which upon first watch comes off as silly and cute, but the more you learn about her character, you see that it’s a technique emotional abusers use to maintain control of their victims) and then reasserts her importance in John’s life by telling John “I AM the best thing that has ever happened to you”, essentially planting that seed in John’s head that it wasn’t Sherlock who saved John and made him a better man, but it was Mary. It’s subtle and most people who have never experienced emotional abuse or don’t know that they’re being emotionally abused or gaslit don’t catch it. But it’s her subtle way of saying “I make you happy, I make you better, and you were nothing without me”. And then when they finally do see Sherlock, Mary ALREADY begins digging her claws into an emotionally fragile Sherlock by dictating WHEN John can see Sherlock – “I’ll talk him ‘round”.
Boom, now SHE’S in control of their relationship, just like she wants it.
All throughout the rest of the episode, TSo3, HLV, and all of S4, who is taking the reins? Mary. Mary is the one dictating their relationship, the one telling them “oh go out and have fun, but hey, remember Sherlock, John comes home to ME”. It’s cruel and disgusting. And in that sense, she’s possessive over their relationship. She’s forced herself into their dynamic so that nothing they do can be done without her essentially giving them the go-ahead. So, assuming S4 is real, this is what it is – She’s so deep into their relationship and friendship that she doesn’t care what happens to either of them, as long as she wins John, gets to rub it in Sherlock’s face, and has control over their friendship. So yeah, “her boys” because she got to say what they could and couldn’t do. She, until the end, manipulated their every move, and essentially hurt John so much that he felt absolute guilt when she died.
Emotional abuse can cause deep, deep scars that can make you feel guilt about not “loving” your abuser “enough”, no matter who it is. My abuser used guilt ALL the time to manipulate me into doing and get what she wanted (you can read more about my abuser on the read more of this post here).
The other way to interpret this – that S4 is fake / John’s Alibi / John’s TAB – is that John and Sherlock are perfectly aware of Mary’s possessiveness (especially after TSo3 and HLV), and used that to get rid of her, but John also writes it into his blog (blog theory) or his brain generates that thought (John’s TAB) as a way to hide the truth of what happened to Mary or for John to process what is happening to him, essentially confirming to himself that without the omnipresence of Mary around anymore, he and Sherlock are free to live the way they always should have.
Granted my theory on this is a bit spotty, I know, but I do believe John and Sherlock are fully aware of how possessive Mary was at the end regardless, and even if it was real, they surely would have scoffed at “my Baker Street Boys”, at least I believe they would have. It’s actually really cruel if you think about it, because it’s Mary essentially confirming that she WAS the keeper of their relationship, and that she believed she was SO effing important in their lives that they NEED her permission to carry on without her, but OH HO don’t forget about her, though.
It’s gross. And I think that’s a lot of the reason why people had HUGE issues with Mary having the last words of S4, because she’s fucking dead, and still trying to create a narrative that she was what made them who they were. She’s still trying to steal their agency and be gross and manipulative. She had NO right to do that, and they’re not CHILDREN for effs sake. Ugh, S4 Mary pisses me off more than she should, because she should NOT have gotten a surface-level redemption arc (when in reality she was still cruel and manipulative right until the end).
Anyway, Nonny, I hope that helps you a bit to understand how I interpreted the end bit. It was fun getting this thought out there, because I’ve had it for awhile, just... no one’s ever asked LOL.
Love you Nonny, and thank you so much for enjoying my reading of the show. It means a lot to me that y’all still “get converted” by my reading of Mary, which I ABSOLUTELY don’t intend to do (I just present my evidence and let y’all decide), but it strangely validates my feelings about many things, and I appreciate it. <3

AO3 stats project: correlations
Okay. Now for some really fun stuff: correlations between different categories of metadata (like, correlations between ratings and tags, character tags and genre tags, etc). And as with the previous post in this series, some of the content I discuss may not be strictly work-appropriate.
The Data | Basic Questions | Fandoms | Tags | Correlations | Kudos | Fun Stuff
Thanks to @eloiserummaging for beta reading these posts; any remaining errors are my own. A Python notebook showing the code I used to make these plots can be found here.
All right. We've got a list of top tags now. How do those tags relate to each other? That is, if I have a work labeled "Fluff", does that change how likely it is that that work will also be labeled "Angst"? I'm plotting, here, a matrix that answers that question directly. I can compute how often "Fluff" and "Angst" would appear together if they were just randomly assigned to all 4.3 million works that I collected metadata for. The blocks I'm showing below are colored by whether the actual number of times "Fluff" and "Angst" appear together is greater or lesser than that expectation. (We do it that way, instead of just counting the raw number of connections, because otherwise it looks like everything is correlated with "Fluff", just because there are a lot of works labeled "Fluff" in the data set.) If I pick two tags--say, "Fluff" on the bottom, and "Angst" on the left--I can follow them to where they intersect, and the color of that little block tells me about whether they're correlated. Things that are pink are less likely than you'd expect to appear together, while things that are green are more likely. The diagonal line is always that pale green-grey color because, by definition, "Romance" appears with "Romance" exactly as often as you'd expect, and the graph is symmetric across that diagonal line because it doesn't matter if we take "Fluff" then "Angst" or "Angst" then "Fluff."
So one really interesting thing is that this plot is mostly green (so things are correlated). Not only do these tags appear a lot, but they appear together more than you’d expect, and even when they’re anti-correlated--that is, when being labeled one makes you less likely to be labeled another--it’s not by very much. The strongest correlation is between “Romance” and “Humor”, so I guess the rom com is alive and well! Angst and hurt/comfort also appear together a lot, which I suppose makes sense.
We can make correlation plots like this for other things. How about pairing types?
Per the AO3, “Multi” means “more than one kind of relationship, or a relationship with multiple partners”, and “Other” means “everything not covered by the other labels”. The structure of this is kind of interesting, too. Remember, pink means things are anti-correlated (appear together less often than expected) and green means they’re correlated (appear together MORE often than expected), so M/M is the Lone Ranger of pairing types, making all other pairing types less likely if it's included. Even more than Gen, which you’d expect to exclude other categories!
Now for the REALLY fun stuff: how do all of these things correlate with other things? Here's an obvious one: ratings vs tags. No more symmetry, because we're showing different things on the two axes.
Not too surprised by this: “Smut” has a really strong relationship with rating, because most works of erotica deserve the higher ratings. The other tags are much less correlated with rating; Fluff and Humor incline to lower ratings, Established Relationship to higher ratings, and the others are kind of in the middle.
Do ratings and tags correlate with pairing type?
Hmm. Interesting. Romance is way more likely to be F/M than you’d expect. (Do we not write as many M/M romances, or do we just call them something else? A couple of friends also pointed out to me that this might mean “romance” as in “the publication genre of romance” not as in “romantic plotlines generally”, which makes sense and would make them more M/F-heavy given publication trends.) Established relationship is very skewed to M/M. Gen anti-correlates with most of the tags you’d expect. Apparently only single-pairing romantic relationships can be fluffy. F/F is neither as funny nor as angsty as chance would indicate.
I think this pattern can be explained this way: Gen is way more likely to be a low rating, and the trend you see for most other things is just that we’re comparing to the average--if Gen is way more likely to be rated General Audiences than is typical, then the other pairing types have to be slightly less General Audiences than you’d expect to make up for it. (This argument doesn’t necessarily apply to the other correlations I was showing, because in those plots there are a bunch of tags I’m not showing and because non-ratings tags can appear together.)
How about the top relationship tags--do they correlate with anything?
Huh. Well, most of these ships have preferentially high ratings--I think that’s the same effect as in the rating and pairing correlation: things without a romantic/sexual relationship have lower ratings, so on average the works containing relationships will have a higher rating. That’s not universal--look at Magnus/Alec, for example--but it’s common. The other two obvious things here are 1) Dean/Sam really skews to high ratings, 2) apparently Harry/Louis fans reject the rating system.
Okay, that’s...less interesting than I was expecting. Lots of Harry/Louis smut, lots of Keith/Lance modern AUs. The most likely established relationship is Derek/Stiles. Magnus/Alex and Yuuri/Victor are the fluffiest. Not much romance, except for Draco/Harry, and that pairing also has an unusual amount of humor.
What about character tags?
Hmm. Looks like there are a lot of teen-rated Marvel works, and Supernatural leans towards the higher ratings (which we already knew).
This basically just repeats stuff we already noticed in the relationships plot, I think. One thing I didn’t notice up there is that John and Sherlock are not that likely to be tagged in Established Relationship works, which is kind of interesting as they’re long-term partners (not necessarily romantic partners) in most versions of the canon.
How about characters and pairing type...are there characters that appear more often in one kind of pairing than you'd expect based on randomness? (Note that all these characters appear most in M/M stories, because those are by far the most common--this is just asking a relative question about how much they appear in other kinds of stories.)
Mostly not super interesting, I have to say. Steve, Tony, Natasha, and Harry Potter are all more likely than usual to appear in poly relationships or in F/M stories, apparently, and Stiles and Castiel are less likely than usual to appear in gen works.
Finally, a really fun thing (that I have to link to an external site to do, because tumblr doesn’t like javascript in posts). Instead of just looking at the top 10 tags, here are the top 100 tags portrayed as dots, arranged in a connected graph: the dots represent tags (with the popularity of the tag represented by its size), and they’re connected by lines whose thickness indicates how often the two things appear together, relative to chance. You can also use this kind of setup to work out sets of interconnected tags that are more closely tied to each other than to the other tags. I colored those sets with different colors, so you can identify them. Hovering your mouse pointer over a dot should tell you which tag it is.
Here are the blocks of tags that the algorithm found:
Alternate Universe, Alternate Universe - College/University, Alternate Universe - High School, Alternate Universe - Human, Alternate Universe - Modern Setting, Alternate Universe - Soulmates, Christmas, Crack, Cute, Domestic Fluff, Fluff, Fluff And Humor, Humor, Light Angst, One Shot, Romance, Tooth-Rotting Fluff
Angst, Blood, Canon-Typical Violence, Canonical Character Death, Character Death, Dark, Death, Depression, Emotional Hurt/Comfort, Grief/Mourning, Hurt/Comfort, I'm Sorry, Magic, Minor Character Death, Nightmares, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder - PTSD, Sad, Self-Harm, Suicidal Thoughts, Torture, Violence
Action/Adventure, Alternate Universe - Canon Divergence, Canon Compliant, Character Study, Crossover, Drabble, Drama, Family, Friendship, Future Fic, Post-Canon, Pre-Slash, Spoilers
Alcohol, Alpha/Beta/Omega Dynamics, Established Relationship, Explicit Language, Explicit Sexual Content, First Time, Fluff And Smut, Jealousy, Kissing, Mpreg, Polyamory, Sex, Sexual Content, Slash, Smut
Anal Fingering, Anal Sex, Bdsm, Blow Jobs, Bondage, Dirty Talk, Dom/Sub, Dubious Consent, Hand Jobs, Masturbation, Oral Sex, Plot What Plot/Porn Without Plot, Rimming, Rough Sex, Spanking
Angst With A Happy Ending, Developing Relationship, Eventual Smut, Falling In Love, First Kiss, Fluff And Angst, Friends To Lovers, Friendship/Love, Happy Ending, Implied Sexual Content, Love, Love Confessions, Mutual Pining, Other Additional Tags To Be Added, Pining, Slow Build, Slow Burn, Swearing, Unrequited Love
I love this! To me, those sets look like: fluffy plot-based tags, violence and disturbing content tags, more action-oriented plot-based tags, less explicit vanilla-ish erotica tags, more explicit or kinky erotica tags, and romance. That’s so cool. (Not everything makes sense--why is Drabble where it is?--but still, cool.)
Or in other words: some numerical routines correctly identified the porn. :)
Up next: what gets kudos?

This is going to be a really difficult introduction to my wrap up.
Unfortunately, on September 18th my dad passed away. He was only 50 years old. I won’t go into details because of how personal it is, but he was in hospital a majority of the month before he passed. I’ve taken a year suspension from University for the time being.
It has been a really difficult time for myself and my family. I’ve turned a lot to books and blogging to offer a way to occupy my mind which is why so many things still seem to be coming out, but I cannot say that this will hold up after the funeral.
As I schedule so many posts, a lot of what came out this month has been written since around mid August and I did not find the time to stop the University posts before they were released. I won’t be deleting them.
I hope you’ll all understand.
THINGS I’VE READ
An Inspector Calls by J.B. Priestley– My sister gave me her copy she used for her GCSE’s. Such a great play with revelation after revelation, left me on the edge of my seat. While I knew the core plot twist, I didn’t predict that ending.
Mob Psycho 100 Volume 1 by One– This was kind of meh. It’s one of my best friend’s favourites, so I’ll carry it on eventually, but I don’t really feel the urge to pick volume two up just yet. I will say I like how the anime tackles the same events in a different order to save major revelations for backstory– that was really interesting to pick up on.
I Call Upon Thee by Ania Ahlborn– I really didn’t like this! Lacklustre and very cliched, feel like it doesn’t really offer anything other than annoying ending and characters who go through absolutely no development at all.
Kissing Tolstoy by Penny Reid– An OK romance that actually has discussions surrounding reading and books that don’t feel forced. I found this easy to read even though I’ve never read any Russian Lit, and I actually want to read it more now. Like that it discusses age gaps and issues of the power dynamic too.
Seven Tears at High Tide by C.B. Lee– Finally finished this one, and it only took me 3 months. A very cute and heartwarming story about a boy who makes a wish and falls in love with a Selkie. Does get ridiculous at the end, I must say, but I was happy with the payoff.
The Tea Dragon Society by Katie O’Neill– Katie O’Neill creates such amazing narratives that have wonderful messages about society and being true to yourself and your wishes, pursuing something that you love and encouraging others to do the same.
Rosemary’s Baby by Ira Levin– How can I ever trust a single man or old person after this book? Tell me.
Please Undo This Hurt by Seth Dickinson– Don’t really rate this short story. It bored me and I hated the main characters, not even in a good way. Just perpetuates the ‘I can save you from your mental illness’ narrative that is dull and overdone by this point.
My Hero Academia Volume 20 by Kohei Horikoshi– Gentle Criminal and La Brava was so boring, the School Festival arc was fabulous, and Endeavor finally got his ass kicked! Yay!
Aphrodite Made Me Do It by Trista Mateer– I have a review of this coming out soon for National Poetry Day in the UK, but if you don’t want to wait, I have a review here!
The Quiet Boy by Nick Antosca– I read this after watching the trailer for Antlers, and I thought it was pretty neat! Very thrilling, although I’m bothered by changes being made in the film that I feel could detract from having Julia as one of the main characters in the film.
I Am Not Your Final Girl by Claire C. Holland– A collection of poetry centring around fictional women from horror films, exploring their empowerment and agency in a genre and a wider culture and society that seems willing to beat them down until they break.
Alice Isn’t Dead by Joseph Fink– I have a review of this linked later this post! Full of body horror and emotional trauma, this is a really solid read great for fans of the podcast and Welcome to Night Vale.
In the Shadow of Spindrift House by Mira Grant– I love this terrible cover! Keep an eye out for my review of this, it’s coming out soon.
The World’s Greatest First Love Volume 1 by Shungiku Nakamura– The publishing elements and the main character were GREAT, but there is prevalent sexual assault in this that is never addressed and is incredibly insensitive in its treatment, so I don’t recommend this manga.
Dead Voices by Katherine Arden– I didn’t enjoy this one as much as Small Spaces, but it’s still really freaky and a great middle grade read. I love that Coco gets her own POV in this, too, and that it doesn’t take stereotypical routes with some of its plotlines.
No One Is Too Small To Make a Difference by Greta Thunberg– This is a collection of speeches Greta Thunberg has made addressing climate change, as well as her own position as an advocate for the cause. Moving and a must read, in my opinion. It’s only £3 in Waterstones at the moment for anyone who wants to pick it up!
Zen in the Art of Writing by Ray Bradbury– A fascinating collection of essays written by Bradbury about his writing process and some of the more popular works he’s published. I honestly felt really inspired and motivated after reading this, I highly recommend it especially for creative writers, but just be warned it is very oriented around the white male experience.
Heartstopper Volume 2 by Alice Oseman– I adore Heartstopper and I love this second volume. Great progression in the relationship between Nick and Charlie, and we’re getting to see more outside of their relationship and into their friendships and family dynamics, too. I still love Tori Spring!
The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle– Finally got a hold of the MASSIVE audiobook where Stephen Fry narrates all the Holmes stories, and it honestly made the experience so much more enjoyable. I think Doyle’s skill lies more in shorter fiction than longer fiction, I think there’s less opportunity for… not useless, per se, just unneeded waffling.
Giant Days Volume 9 and 10 by John Allison– These two volumes take place around the tailend of the girl’s second years and follows their accommodation location, the progression (and breakdown) of relationships, and them finally making it to third year intact. I honestly can’t believe there’s only three or four volumes left in this series, its been a constant companion for me since 2016 when I first started and I really don’t want to let it go.
No Touching At All and Even So, I Will Love You Tenderly by Kou Yoneda– Of the ‘older’ manga I’ve read that focus on the relationships between two men, these two are definitely in the ‘recommend’ pile. Other than the beautiful names for the volumes and the artwork being really pretty, I really enjoyed the developing relationships and the conversations had about workplace homophobia and ostracization in Japan, although that wasn’t the main focus. They do include some questionable attitudes towards identification of sexuality– two characters in both volumes are probably bisexual or on that spectrum, but are referred to as straight more than once for liking women and only the man they enter the relationship with. It’s complicated, but nothing in either volumes ever feels targeted or hateful, just lacking education on the nuances of sexuality.
Articles
I found this article about Friends great as it breaks down issues I’ve had with the show for years. I don’t have a lot of attachment to it, honestly, I mostly just put it on in the background, but I think I’ll stop now. I’ve always found the handling of gender and sexuality damaging in Friends, as well as the overwhelming fatphobia.
I really enjoyed looking through this list The Guardian did of the 100 best books of the 21st century. I don’t know why, I’m just a big fan of lists!
Before reading this article, I can honestly tell you I knew nothing about Susan Sontag beyond her name. It’s deconstructing her queerness and how her aversion to accepting her own sexuality ultimately ruled a lot of the work she produced in her life.
God, this article was fascinating. I can’t even tell you what it’s about, really, other than that it’s an interview with Christeene, a punk drag artist who is just really cool, honestly. There are some buttholes for anyone who… wants to avoid butts? Or reading this at work?
There was a massive conversation in August that carried into September regarding the rise in men adopting pseudonyms to get their thriller novels published. This Atlantic article particularly captured the issues I have with men who do this, who are almost trying to fool an audience of women who trust women writers to not approach the suffering of women through a misogynistic lens, as is so common in modern society.
An older article by The New Inquiry, Coming out of the Coffin offers an insight into the fraught relationship between Bram Stoker and Oscar Wilde. A really interesting read, I’m just sad I discovered it 7 years after its release!
THINGS I WATCHED
I don’t do music sections on these wrap ups anymore, so I’ll put this here: the GRAACE cover of ‘Complicated’ by Avril Lavigne completely transforms the song and adds such an amazing depth to it
I decided to binge watch Fleabag and it’s most definitely the best decision I’ve made all year. Fleabag follows the titular woman as she navigates her life as a thirty year old woman whose entire life is in flux, and has been since the death of her mother. There’s a lot I could say about this show, honestly. What really stood out to me was how much I could relate specifically to the emotions Fleabag and her older sister Claire feel in relation to each other, and their grief. Seeing them still come back together even after such a significant loss, their dependency, really gives me strength to get through what I’m experiencing at the moment, so Fleabag has been something I can relate to and look at as hope for a future where I can begin to wrap my head around the terrible things going on around me.
