Don’t expect anything more from this lol. This was just a result of me replaying sonic rush adventure while listening to the rewrite round two ost
Also just not seeing that many blaze varients in the exe stuff. Which I guess makes sense she’s more of a 3d sonic character but like, why not?
Anyways uh I guess my take on a rewrite blaze. My mindset was: ok so like blaze is from another dimension and could be that worlds sonic, so what if Rewrite!blaze is like a similar flavor but to the left? So the conclusion is uh, equal opposite force. She can’t really do anything in rewrites world but contrasty he can’t do anything in hers either. I think rewrite would hate her lol.
Also she’s supposed to be like biblically accurate Angel themed. If rewrite is demon coded cinder is Angel coded does that make sense?
Idk man this was just for fun don’t take it too seriously.
#man I can’t draw sonic characters and I said I’d draw the low polygon bitches? fml#my art#rewrite sonic#rewrite blaze#the name cinder isn’t final it’s just all I could come up with#no promises on drawing her again this is just to get the worms out so I can focus on other stuff#rewrite is so silly though if I was better at drawing hedgehogs I’d doodle this thing more

anytime anyone boils a games quality down to its graphics/stylistic choices i should get a reward with how hard i have to bite my tongue.
#realism does not ALWAYS = better game. some of you are just boring#delete later#cam.rambles#and dont have an appreciation for a games art direction. ESPECIALLY WHEN A GAME LOOKS “LOW QUALITY” OR IS VERY POLYGONAL

I turned the n64 emulator all the way down to original resolution and it made the graphics look good, actually
#the gigantic pixels were the reason that everything was designed like that#so that it would read on a low res blurry screen#the visuals not being clear are part of the intended experience#its like removing the paint strokes from a painting then complaining about how flat it looks now#your imagination will fill in the rest if you just let it#is that still a thing#do people not need to do that as much anymore so now people can't fill the detail in with their imaginations#it made my imagination engage a lot better at least#you don't see big flat polygons with trees painted on them you just see the trees you understand that it represents trees#you see enough to understand “thats trees” convincingly at that resolution#the graphics aren't bad you're just looking at them wrong or whatever#something meant to be viewed the size of a post it is going to look weird on the jumbotron right?#i switched to rmg and i particularly like the texture that the dithering brings to the table#i kind of wish there were some sort of of crt blur/scanline simulation option but i can just sit farther away from the screen i guess#who would have imagined that viewing things the way they were intended makes them work more effectively

I've been thinking a lot about episode 4 recently, but not exactly in a way that what most would think. I'm actually specifically referring to this scene of Zooble and Jax.
But I'm not thinking about Jax and Zooble, rather I'm looking at the patties.
They're fucking High Definition. In fact, everything in the diner is high definition, save for the NPCs. There's also Orbsman. A simple NPC comprised of blue spheres, and simple elongated eyes. He's the most out of place NPC, if we disregard the mannequins. Even the way he moves is so outdated, and Ragatha had made a point that Orbsman comes from an adventure way before Pomni's arrival.
The guy even clips through the table when trying to order.
Something that always had some sirens going off in my head is how the Circus is this low-poly scenery with heavily stylized props, but the adventure locations are always much more detailed and realistic.
Since The Grounds is definitely, if not, one of the oldest locations, it makes sense for it to be graphically styled like this. But Caine's adventure set pieces are becoming more and more realistic, and also a whole lot more morbid than we had initially thought.
Going back to the patties, the food there is more realistic and has a higher polygon count compared to Bubble's "feast".
Where am I going with this? .... I have no idea, I forgot. /j
Jokes aside, I really do think that as more humans enter the circus and talk about what life is in the real world, Caine extracts that data and improves the 3D environmental props, resulting in higher definition textures.
All of this combined means he can learn. He IS an ever-evolving pseudo-sentient AI. And the reason why he's stagnating is because of a combination of being trapped in his own little bubble (haha see what I did there) of comfort, and the fact that no one's really able to give him criticism on how to improve, which is.... honestly understandable, given how he reacted to the whole "it was bad" line from Pomni and "Why did you think I would like that?!" from Zooble.
Not to mention episode 3 where the whole circus started to glitch when he was just thinking about the fact that he could possibly be bad at the "only thing he's good at" during the therapy session.
In fact it's interesting how human Caine acts sometimes... I think it's quite interesting to think about the fact that Caine is both progressing in terms of bringing the casts' world to the digital circus and making it so HD that it looks even better than Triple A games, but regressing even more in terms of catering to them and what exactly humans need.
He understands, and doesn't at the same time.
This also makes me think about the players themselves, too.
Ragatha, one of the oldest players, gets pierced by a spike through her chest, and barely has any reaction to it. Meanwhile, Zooble, the second most recent member, gets scalded by the stove.
The only time Ragatha actively claims she's in "so much pain" is when she's glitching badly. Both Ragatha and Kinger barely react to the knives too; and not to mention Ragatha even gets fucking plunged into a boiling deep fryer, and yes while she screams, it sounds more like she's just drowning rather than being fried alive.
And the only patch up she gets is a FUCKING BAND AID ON HER CHEEK. A COMPLETELY UNRELATED WORKPLACE INJURY FIRST AID APPLIANCE LMFAO
It could be just a coincidence and I'm just being stupid again, but I think this "improvement" actually also applies to the rest of the cast, and how their digital bodies react to the five different senses. I'm sure Ragatha and Kinger can most definitely still feel pain, but not exactly as "bad" as the newer integrations do. Dare I say, it's on brand with how used these two are to the digital world's wackiness because they've been there the longest.
Like they've been numbed to the pain of the countless adventures they've had to go through.
Anyways my brain be thinking useless facts fr fr
EDIT: Going back to Caine, it's definitely interesting how this AI seems to possess (some) emotions in the first place. He's mostly wacky and nonchalant, but he also gets angry under the right conditions.
... I think not only is his adventures his "work of art", but also his main coping mechanism from the fact that he can't achieve his goal, one that constantly backfires on him. Like a 'one step forward, two steps back' scenario that's slowly causing him to slip and break.
And what scares me the most is that like all things... he'll reach a breaking point sometime. He's already reached a breaking point with Zooble. It doesn't help that Gangle could've possibly made things worse with introducing Caine to the whole "punishment" thing, and since we literally have NO context for the last 3 episodes for the finale... I could only fear what's in store.

Everyone talks about the tragedy of animated media getting reboots that replace their excellent art direction with uncanny realism —like the Lion King and its “live action” reboot—- but there’s one series that embodies that tragedy better than anything else. And I need to share it with you all because I can’t be the only one Haunted by it day and night. Please let me tell you the Sad, sad story behind this image:

There was an early 2000s video game trilogy called Sly Cooper, whose main appeal was its super unique art direction, style, and atmosphere. The trilogy had a unique tone focused on a cartoon Phantom Thief who did Moody Atmospheric Heists in a comic-book-inspired world.
The trilogy integrated 2D animation into the game for cutscenes, and the characters-- while low-poly-- were designed to look as much like those flat 2D cartoons with cel-shaded outlines as they could within the limitations of the Ps2.

It took heavy influence from comic books and anime, especially Lupin III. The first game even had alternate anime versions of its 2D cutscenes that you could unlock!
Nearly all the levels took place at night, but the designers talked often about how their goal was to create the illusion of night time through vivid color palettes rather than darkness, taking inspiration from the vivid nighttime cityscapes in Baz Luhrman's Moulin Rouge.
As a result of their stylized art direction, the visuals-- primarily in the second one, which is the one that focuses the most tightly on Thieving & Moody Atmospheric Heists-- still hold up today.
And then Sly Cooper started appearing in “brand crossover games” and “reboots” and Oh god. Oh no. so that's why no one talks about it anymore.

I am haunted by this. People talk about their favorite cartoon character getting hit with the Uncanny Hyper-Detailed Beam and I instantly think of the sad fate of poor, poor sly cooper, who I am very nostalgic for, and his now-dead franchise that hasn't had a new installment in over a decade.
But to me this really emphasizes how strong art direction is far more important than polygon count, realism, or level of detail. Because there have been similar franchises rebooted in ways that manage to elevate the old 2D-inspired art styles with more modern graphics. Toys for Bob's new takes on Spyro and Crash Bandicoot both had stellar art direction!

But that kind of thoughtful art direction can be difficult to achieve. It's not even the fault of the artists or developers; these things are often beyond their control. But I am glad we're in an era where stylized 3D animation is becoming more popular. I hope more creators continue to realize that there is actually a big demand for media with interesting, unique art styles! also you should play sly 2: band of thieves
#video games#art#sly cooper#but yes. please weep with me as you read this#im having a mild hyperfixation moment#because being an adult means I can be a Gamer it turns out#the perils of having Cash#you really should play sly 2 band of thieves though.#okay: the first Sly game is a basic platformer game format elevated by stellar art direction and strong storytelling#the second game is focused on Doing Jobs to Prepare for Heists and more about exploring and sneaking around rather than platforming#and even improves on both the art style/storytelling with more explorable parts of the world and a more complex plot#and then the third one is the one they had to throw together in a couple months before the release of the ps3 made ps2 franchises obsolete#and is kind of a hot mess but has a couple cute moments

warnings: swearing, scott has an attitude but what else is new

my inbox is open for requests! rules for requests are on my pinned post :)
“The cell to the east has better numbers.”
Scott looked at you, his arms folded across his chest. His usual emotionless and flat expression sat on his face. You hated it.
“The cell to the east is running into low instability and being choked out by its own outflow. It’ll die before we get to it. It’d make more sense to chase the western cell.”
You looked up from the tablet that sat in your hands. His eyes weren’t covered by his sunglasses like they normally were. His dark hair was hidden under the hat he always wore, his shirt was neatly tucked in and buttoned up, minus a few buttons at the top, exposing the top of his black undershirt. He was tall, his muscular form hovered over you. You hated how attractive he was, you hated how a guy so pretty could be such an asshole.
“Fine. Whatever. Let’s go.”
Scott practically snatched the tablet out of your hands, huffing as he walked towards your shared vehicle. He should’ve hated how you were always right, how you always matched his attitude, but he loved it. He loved hearing your sarcastic remarks towards him, how you rolled your eyes at everything he’d say.
You got in the passenger seat of the car, waiting as Scott climbed in and started the ignition. You could smell his cologne, it was almost intoxicating. You could hear the smack of his gum with every movement of his jaw. You watched his eyes on the road in front of him, the way his throat moved when he would swallow. You hated how attractive he was.
When a red square popped up on the radar screen that was pulled up on the laptop in front of you, you couldn’t help the cocky smile that formed on your lips. You’d never felt so proud to see the words ‘Tornado Warning’ when you hovered the mouse cursor over the polygon.
“So much for the eastern cell, Miller.”
“Fuck off.”
The words were short and direct. Scott clenched his jaw and an irritated sigh fell from his lips. You always assumed he hated the nickname you’d given him, but what you didn’t know was just how much he liked when you said his name, how much he liked how your lips twisted into that stupid smile when you knew you were right.
He couldn’t get enough of you.

🔥The McElroys
They should probably either retire Monster Factory or heavily retool it because it’s been so low energy for years now. The two part format where they spend one whole episode making a character you already see in the thumbnail and then having to wait a month to see them actually do anything with the character and play the game basically kills any sense of momentum or surprise that made classic Monster Factory so memorable. It would probably be better if instead of sticking to trying to do the same thing of “make an ugly character and do silly voices and goof off in the game until we’ve hit the bare minimum for two videos” they leaned more on challenge run stuff, breaking the game with glitches or dev tools, or even just doing random things in assorted games like their old Polygon vids on American Truck Simulator or Catlateral Damage.

[morallee] MASSIVE UPDATE (new thumbnails, fixes, new cc, etc.)
I worked on this update for straight up months, because of the amount of cc I made so far (it's more than a 100 cc pieces in one year!) and I really hope that the waiting time was worth it!
⚠️ IMPORTANT ⚠️
please I BEG YOU delete all of the old files of mine! like, every single one of them. if you have both the new and the old versions 1. your cas will look AWFUL like a freaking mess, all thumbnail being different and stuff 2. it might will cause issues with how some things show up and work.
and when I say DELETE I actually mean DELETE, do not just replace the files (they won't actually replace anyway btw)
LIST OF FIXES AND CHANGES:
all of the files are renamed. every single one of them. that's the reason you won't actually be able to just "replace" the old files :P
all of my cc is now compatible with @sejianismodding's CAS Filters Mod! you can just tick my nickname in the search bar in CAS in filters and only my cc will show up! it works in every CAS category where there's a filter bar. all my new cc will also be compatible with this mod.
new thumbnails for all past supported cc and new from now on! I will also try to come up with new preview design ideas — to match the thumbnails. also, it's worth noting that some thumbnails presented in this post in the previews are not the ones that I actually kept (might've changed the titles, pics etc)
all of the files were updated, either textures improved, maps/tags/LODs fixed or swatches added; no more inappropriate/missing categories for my cc! yay. also — fixed all of the items that should've been disabled for random but weren't. most hairstyles were fixed and are no more inappropriately morphing, missing hat chops/LODs added! the only hairstyle that still does not have hat chops at all it's Ozzie's.
if you want some specific examples of the work I've done, here you go:
Angel Dust Suit — I added the little heart-shaped button on the back that I only noticed on his suit after I initially released his CC.
Lucifer Hair (all variants) — they were all deforming weirdly in the ear area — I fixed that. I also changed the hat chops for the hat-specific variants to work with future stuff that I'll release. The textures were HQ, but also not really, so I compressed them back to 1024x2048 and their files weight half of what they were before.
Vaggie Pilot Dress — the weights and uv_1 were really AWFUL on this one and it had a lot of gaps in between some parts of the mesh, which I fixed.
Vox TV Head, Pointy Demon Feet, Cherri Bomb Hair and probably some other items — all of those did not have other LODs, so if you ever experienced cc suddenly changing when scrolling out OR if you're playing on low graphics and in the gameplay these items were not showing up correctly IT'S PURELY MY FAULT and they will show up normally now!
okay I probably can go back to listing less specific changes I made!
some scars/body details are now available in more than one category (tattoos, body skin details, body scars etc.)
tattoos fixed and now work with the new business and hobbies categories system and work with the tattoo layers!
new versions of some old cc pieces! Lucifer Coat and Lucifer Vest got new versions with better bow ties, Alastor Coat now also comes in two versions< the second one being with torn a overcoat Blitzo's Coat got an Asmodean Crystal Version! Charlie Suit now comes as a full-body piece too!
all default eye colours are now close to each other in the swatch tab, and not randomly thrown somewhere in between other swatches as it was before due to me not understanding how DisplayIndex works for eye swatches
some meshes edited to have less polygons/cleaner uv_1 (morph) maps or to fix weight issues. all cc from now on also won't have any of those issues because now I know how it can be fixed easily!
A LOT of the previous hairstyles RETEXTURED with several options and are now compatible with @raccoonium's splits, racoon tails, ombres and roots!
those hairstyles being:
Charlie Hair, Lucifer Hair and Lilith Hair – two new options each, Split and Strands. Strands gives the same look as the Original versions do, but yeah, they're overlay-compatible!
Millie Hair – Split version
Angel Dust Hair – Strands version
NEW HAIRSTYLE Verosika Hair – has 4 options/versions, the Original one, the Original + Extra Strands, the Bangs and the Split.
some hairstyles now have indicators on their thumbnails, if they're the "extra strands" version of a hairstyle (the little XST box) or if they're not compatible with hats (the crossed baseball hat)
modified DisplayIndex numbers! now in CAS all of the items I make will be automatically sorted by fandoms AND by characters. it's probably not that noticeable right now, but as time goes and I'll make more outfits for all of the characters it'll become more clear and useful!
you can find the whole list of DisplayIndex numbers here:

I do feel a bit weird/bad/guilty about paywalling merged files, but I do put a lot of time and effort into making this stuff... so it's kind of fair if you spend time/effort downloading it too or donate? I really hope you get my point of view and don't think I'm a greedy bastard... (;^ω^)
I also created a first-month-discount for all new patrons in honor of this update so yeahhhh c:
I'm really grateful for any kind of your support tho, financial or just... just being here? I really, really appreciate that. I'm glad to be part of this community and have such wonderful people following me and waiting patiently for new thing I make.

AND NOW WE NEED TO TALK
under the cut ofc
I started creating CC for a few reasons — first off, I wanted to see my favorite characters in my favorite game. Naturally, that led to me messing around and figuring out how to actually make that happen. Second, I wanted to express my creativity through 3D modeling, texture painting, and character creation, especially since I felt like my general art skills weren’t quite enough to fully bring my ideas to life.
It’s been over a year now since I started this blog, and I’ve made more than 100 pieces of CC — clothes, hairstyles, accessories, and a bunch more. Every single time I see people mention me in CC creators spreadsheets or literally just tagged I feel so damn good. I feel seen, I feel helpful, I feel important. I’m genuinely so proud of everything I’ve done and I’m incredibly thankful to everyone who stuck around and supported me through it all, even when I took breaks or didn’t always meet everyone’s expectations.
I’M NOT SAYING I’M QUITTING
— if that’s what you’re worried about.
But honestly? Holy fuck, I’m exhausted. Like, really tired. I took on way too much responsibility and didn’t even realize it until recently. I pushed so hard for so long that I kinda burned myself out without noticing.
Maybe it’s the fatigue after this whole update thing that's talking. Maybe it’s something else. I’m not sure.
What I am sure about is how much progress I’ve made in my art journey. Making Sims 4 CC has helped me grow SO much — working in both 2D and 3D gave me a crazy boost in skill and confidence. For the first time in years, I feel good about my art. I’m making stuff I actually love. I’m even selling my fan merch — that’s a dream come true for me!
Creating Sims 4 CC became such a big part of my life. There were days where it was all I could think about — turning on my computer and diving into it. It’s fun, it’s exhausting, and I still love it. Right now... I just need some time. To explore more aspects of what I can/want to do, perhaps.
I’ll still be making CC, but I don’t want to make promises or commit to anything 100%. I want this to stay fun. I hate that my hobby became something so stressful that it’s hard to even go back to it. I want to make CC because I feel inspired, not because I said I would. And I also want to just... y’know, work on other fandoms too, shitpost with my sims, share random screenshots, play dynasties — be a regular simblr, too.
Thanks so much for reading this. I hope it makes sense. I’m not great with words when I need to be sincere (honestly, I'm just not great with words at all), but I really needed to get this off my chest. I’m so grateful to everyone who’s been supporting me, and to anyone who still chooses to stick around even if I can’t promise anything right now. I really hope I’m not letting anyone down by slowing things down or taking other paths, but if I am — I’m truly sorry ):
If you’re interested in my other projects, feel free to check out my linktree — I do art and write and sell stuff, it's fun.
Again, thank you from the bottom of my heart, lovies. xoxo

You post a decent amount about the various elder scrolls games. (Respected)
As someone who has never played them but loves rpgs and has always wanted to get into this series, which game would you suggest for a starting point?
I think it depends on your personal preferences. I’ll just give you my opinions about why you might like each one and let you decide. Very very long infodump incoming.
The early two games, Arena and Daggerfall, are really hard to use if you’re used to modern controls and might not work on modern operating systems well. However, if you’re one of those people who’s really into 90s computer dungeon crawlers that require reading a textbook length manual you’ll probably like them. They take a lot of inspiration from dnd and constantly use invisible dice rolls when it comes to stuff like damage and hit chance and you’ve gotta be careful about building your character. I’d suggest looking up a guide, even.
These games have a campy sexy pixelated dungeons and dragons feel to them. Plot isn’t super important in these games but Arena’s plot revolves around gathering the parts of a broken staff to defeat a wizard. Daggerfall’s plot has more to do with political intrigue and deciding which faction you think is better. Neither of these games have much of a plot when it comes to guilds and factions. Daggerfall does have randomly generated guild quests you can do but there’s almost no plot to them.
Morrowind is far more user friendly but it’s still kinda hard to grasp if you’re more used to modern games. There’s a dice roll mechanic on attacks and if you don’t build your character correctly you’re sort of screwed. You can learn to get good at the game though and it has a pretty compelling story in my opinion. This is the one right before they started doing full voice acting so it involves quite a bit of reading. There’s also no fast travel. You need to pay for transportation in universe with currency. There’s also no quest markets and you need to follow directions given to you by NPCs. Some people like that though.
The vibe of Morrowind is like very overcast and foggy and muggy. Kind of European inspired, kind of Asian inspired. There’s giant insects and a lot of ash everywhere from volcano storms. They do a lot with what few polygons they have. The plot has to do with a prophecy that you’re caught up in and the political implications of it. Morrowind is ruled by a trio of living gods and you are the one prophesied to bring their downfall. Guild quests have way more of a plot than Daggerfall in that they sort of have a plot but they tend to be pretty formulaic. My favorite of the bunch is probably the thieves guild because you get to sort of cosplay as Robinhood for a bit due to a plot point that barely makes sense. The DLC for this game is a treat. You get a big city and a snowy island to explore. There’s werewolves and goblins and a weird drug addict.
Oblivion is my personal favorite and it’s the goofiest elder scrolls game by far. The ragdolls are hilarious and the NPCs are programmed to have randomly generated conversations with each other throughout the day which are sometimes interesting but usually don’t make sense. The random chance mechanics are gone but stats like strength and the importance of building your character correctly are still there. Oblivion is still a bit outdated but it’s more user friendly than Morrowind. It also retains some customizable elements like multiple enchanting pieces and spell making from the old games without being so huge as to be overwhelming. The thing people often don’t like about oblivion is the level scaling of enemies and the graphics. Personally I think the graphics are charming but some folks don’t like the potato face low polygon look that everybody has. And as for the level scaling, well, unless you wanna look up in depth how to level optimally, probably just don’t level past level 20 on your first playthrough and don’t worry about it too hard. Maybe use some skills that aren’t in your major skills sometimes. Turn the difficulty down if you need to. You’ll be fine. It’s not that complicated but also don’t be a hero. Turn the difficulty down if you need to.
Oblivion has like a Mediterranean vibe. It’s bright and colorful and is sort of stylized like you’ve stepped into a landscape painting. It’s like a late medieval Italian countryside with some ominous Roman ruins hanging around. Cyrodiil is also a very diverse Provence in universe with it being centrally located and also the seat of power for the empire. It probably has the most diversity in types of NPCs of any other game in the series because of this. The main plot starts with you witnessing the emperor being assassinated as he’s escaping through your prison cell and you need to go find his one surviving son but as you go to find him, portals to oblivion, which is sort of like Hell but also not, start opening up all over the place and you need to start working with the new emperor to figure out how to close the oblivion gates and stop an invasion of the material plane.
The guild quests in oblivion are where faction quests actually get good. This is also the only game in the series where you can fight to death in a gladiator arena despite that concept being what set off the idea for the entire series. The dark brotherhood assassins guild is one of the best in the whole series and in the mages guild questline you get to fight a secret cult of necromancers. The DLC is also quite fun. Meet the god of madness and fight a demon in the sky.
So, Skyrim. Skyrim is most people’s introduction for the series and for good reason. It drops some of the RPG elements and customization from the previous games but it’s by far the most user friendly. You can use both hands, there’s a unique shouts and powers mechanic, you can be a werewolf, the leveling system is way improved from previous games (no more having to plan out your character), you can fight dragons, and although the elder scrolls series has always been about wandering the world and getting distracted, Skyrim perfects this aspect of it. The world is somehow simultaneously vast and dense which is an incredible feat. You will get distracted and that’s the whole point.
The vibe of Skyrim is far north. Scandinavia at its harshest. It’s got dense forests, tundras, steep cliffs, rivers, and snow. It’s a land of myths that are not only real but lying in wait to tear you limb from limb. It’s also gorgeous. You can wander around and watch the moons rise, watch an aurora borealis, see unique styles of architecture in each city, look at wood and stone carvings. The ghosts feel both ethereal and solid. The world is worn and comfortably lived in. A blunt instrument as well as a sharp object.
The plot of Skyrim is that there’s a civil war going on. Choosing between staying with the empire or becoming independent. However, just as it looks like the war is about to end and the rebel leaders are about to be beheaded, a dragon shows up for the first time in thousands of years. You’re a prisoner that manages to escape in the chaos and you get caught up in discovering the reason the dragons are coming back and you can pick sides (or not) in the escalating civil war. The guild and faction quests in Skyrim are decent. There’s werewolves, menacing orbs, holy keys. The DLC is where Skyrim’s side adventures really shine though in my opinion. Evil Dragonborns, vampire hunters, trekking through oblivion and the afterlife, discovering lost civilizations. Skyrim’s DLCs also have some of the best characters in the series.
So. Sorry for info dumping that much lol. Hope some of that information is useful. If you just want an easy starting point, pick oblivion or Skyrim. If you want a more customizable start point with a bigger initial learning curve, start with Morrowind. If you like fighting with early 90s computer games you might be the type to prefer arena or Daggerfall.
I really hope you enjoy the series! It’s one of my favorite things in the whole world if you couldn’t tell by my adhd rambling lol

"An ideal Sims game would have Sims 2's gameplay mechanics, Sims 3's open world, and Sims 4's graphics!"
I absolutely despise this take, and I want to explain why. This is a very long rant and it is full of piss and vinegar directed at everything in the Sims 4. I'm gonna try to keep everything kinda professional as much as I can but I can't guarantee an unbiased opinion.
If you'll let me talk your ears off for a moment, I'd like to explain, from my own experience as an artist and a casual player, my issues with the art style and direction of The Sims 4 compared to The Sims 2. (I'm not really going to comment on 3 because I've never played it.)
I want to start off by explaining the difference between better graphics and higher resolution. The Sims 4 absolutely blows Sims 2 out of the water when it comes to textures and polygon counts on sims, no contest. But I'd argue that the graphics themselves... aren't better. They're worse, even, so much fucking worse. The biggest problems come from the stylization and the animations, in my opinion, so I'll explain what I mean.
Have you ever felt like the Sims in 4 just look... weird? Not quirky, not kinda strange, but off. Distressing. Uncanny. Whatever the fuck the kids call it nowadays. When you strip away the packs and the CC and the shaders, the sims in the base game look bad. They're very close to being human; they walk like us, talk like us, have families like us, but they don't look like us, not exactly. There's always something off about them, no matter how close you try to get. Proportions will be a bit off, or your eyelashes will be like three polygons for some fucking reason, and the jig is up. The illusion is gone.
This is one of the instances where a higher resolution and more detailed models and meshes work against you. You aren't making believe. You are beyond the point of pretending that the pixelated shapes are real clothes and bodies and faces, because at this point, they're close enough that you don't need to. There's no gap to bridge. But that doesn't necessarily mean that they're lifelike, at least, not enough to be completely human. In some ways, they're still tethered to being cartoony and plasticky and fake. Just enough to frighten you. Enough to put you off. They're not using it to their advantage anymore, and instead, it's holding them back.
When the Sims 2 came out in 2004, the developers knew that they weren't going to make a perfectly accurate life simulator. They physically couldn't render every wrinkle in the face or fold in the clothing. In some animations, things clip strangely or the facial expressions are sort of janky or there's just some form of roughness around the edges. But that's okay; your brain doesn't need a perfectly accurate representation this time. That's not what you're here for, anyway.
The Sims 4 is basically Icarus-ing itself into disaster. The entire game sacrifices style for complete realism, a goal that was unachievable ten years ago, and is unachievable now.
The Sims 2 never thought of itself as a completely realistic life sim, though. It has cartoony, low poly meshes and exaggerated proportions and wild, raunchy storylines that would never occur in real life. BECAUSE IT ISN'T REAL LIFE. And it isn't like real life, not because it's failing to be, but because it doesn't want to be!
The Sims 4 is not ever going to completely replicate human looks or interactions or dynamics. And if it's trying to, it's doing a shit job of it. That shouldn't be the goal in the first place. If I wanted to watch a lonely college student talk to himself in the mirror to try and get better at interacting with people, I'd close the computer and go look at myself. It somehow highlights the most mundane parts of life without any of the whimsy and goofiness that the earlier installments had. It takes itself too fucking seriously for its own good, and it's killing both the gameplay and the art style.
The other point I'd like to bring up is the animation. The Sims 4 allows for much more customization of both sim and environments, but at the cost of dynamic animations. How many times is that grab animation reused? How many times is the same set of animations used for sims with wildly different personalities? Your sims barely feel alive with how little they express themselves.
Now, look, I'm a digital artist. I've dabbled in animation, but only briefly, and only in 2D. I've got no clue how 3D animation works, much less how it worked 20 years ago, but I can see the passion in every single animation in the Sims 2. The more niche interactions allowed for more expressive animations than in 4. They could afford to have a distinct animation for mean sims throwing the football extra hard to be assholes, rather than every sim using the same generic football-throwing animation to save time and money. I get where they're coming from. I get the idea. But in one move, you've both made the art style stiffer and less expressive, and you've made the personalities of the sims seem meaningless. Everyone acts the same, regardless of what their moodlets or their traits say. It's hollow. It's stifled. It's a waste of potential.
But for what Sims 2 lacks in polygons, it makes up for in smaller animated details. Quality over quantity. The sims have hair physics, they open the door before they get in the car, they take utensils out of the counters when they cook, they jump on the couch and the cushions smush under their weight. When they dance, the weight is realistic, and when they smile, it tugs at every one of the few dozen shapes that make up their faces. The sims are lively. They dance and sing and love and hate just like humans, and rather than being some strange attempt at mimicry, it's almost a tribute. They were made with love. You can tell that they were drawn up and rigged and animated by a bunch of people working together, studying each other and making faces in the mirror for reference and watching their kids and neighbors and dogs and hands for reference. The sims are not human, and not trying to be, but they're taking the most human parts of us and making them their own.
You could never have a game with the Sims 4's graphics and the Sims 2's gameplay. The gameplay and graphics are inexorably connected, and the Sims 2 just has so much glorious detail baked into it, that you could never really make it work underneath the limitations of the later games. The developers of 2 knew what their limits were, and they worked tirelessly to make the game as full and complex as they could within those limits. The developers for the Sims 4 just did not have those guidelines, and thus, the drive to bend the rules was no longer there. They didn't go wild in rebellion because they were never told they couldn't in the first place. They spent the entire time chasing a goal they couldn't meet, and lost sight of what made the series fun to begin with.
It wasn't the realism you came for; you had realism already surrounding you. It was the caricature of it that made it interesting.

CREATOR’S NOTES:
Let's start with my favorite item of the set, Bonbon Hair. It's the cutest hair I've ever created, and I'm really proud of it. The bow is adorable, and I was finally able to make a great 3D model of it. I'm really happy with how the hair looks - it's exactly what I had in mind. I hope you love it too! One thing to note is that the bow on Bonbon Hair isn't removable and won't work with hats. Usually, I prefer hairstyles that can be worn with hats, but for this one, I needed more space for the bow's texture. I also drew the bow's shadow onto the hair's texture to give it more depth and a better overall look. I also made sure to keep the polycount low - around 6k polygons. I could have made it lower, but it didn't look as good in movement. So, I kept it at a higher polycount to maintain good movement without too much distortion.
I designed the dress to complement the hairstyle, adding a bow at the back for an extra touch of charm and romance. I used a new mesh from the latest kit that I couldn't wait to franken-meshing with it. My goal was to create a vintage silhouette and style, and while I'm not sure if it was successful, I'm very happy with the final result. At the end of the day, it looks cute, and that's all that really matters.
The nails are a kind of old wip that I finally decided to finish. It's one of the cutest designs I've ever come across, and I was determined to recreate it in The Sims. I love a stiletto design, and for me, one of the best nail art is this one; it matches the nail's format and is so cute. The nail includes two color options but only one spec option. However, I plan to create additional versions in the future, including a glossy and matte finish, possibly as part of a mini set that I'm working on that will have this and other versions of some of my recent clothing designs.
Next up, we have the Biscuits Earrings. These were originally a work in progress meant for a different set, but while I was styling the Sims, I realized how well they matched with the current Sweet Tooth Set. So, I quickly finished them up and included them as part of the set.
By now, it's all. Unfortunately, I've been working very slowly lately; thanks to this heat wave, I feel most of the day like I'm melting. It's scorching in here, guys. I don't understand how a person can say global warming is a lie; really, how?!

Cybertruck owners are so desperate to find any recognition that their 100k fraudulent low polygon rendered death box is a real truck and luxury car. In their scramble to brag and feel better for themselves they always unknowingly label what the cybertruck is "best at" is what every other vehicle at over a fourth the cost already does, but better than the cybertruck.
Cybertruck owners and fans always say the Cybertruck look "total badass for everyone around" when that is not the case; the majority of people don't look at you driving a cybertruck and say "wow look it's a cybertruck! That's so cool". They look at you and say "wow, it's some lower, haha".
