Hi guys! Here’s some advice from a cane user on how to spot a fake cane user/disability faker!
YOU CANT
You can not spot a “fake disabled” cane user. You can not know if someone’s “really disabled”, much less by just looking at them. Here are some common misconceptions.
“Cane users always need their canes. If they walk without it or put it away when it’s inconvenient, they’re faking”: WRONG! Many cane users are what we call “ambulatory” cane users. This means they don’t always need their canes to walk. I’m an ambulatory cane user, and I experience really horrible leg pain on the daily. However, I don’t always use my cane, and when I don’t need to walk or stand a lot in a certain place I don’t use it. And when I do use it, I may lift it off the ground or carry it in places that are sandy, gravelly, or otherwise hinder my cane.
“Cane users walk abnormally without their canes, someone who walks normally without their cane is faking”: WRONG! Many ambulatory cane users can walk in a way that seems “normal”. This doesn’t mean they’re not in pain, or not “really disabled”. This just means that their condition doesn’t cause a noticeable difference in walking, and likely manifests in a different way.
“Cane users always need their cane, someone who doesn’t use their cane at home is faking”: WRONG! Cane users may not use their canes at home, because at home they may be able to do things like sit down wherever and whenever, regain more spoons, and use other mobility aids. Additionally, some ambulatory cane users only need or use their canes when they are doing something physically taxing, like going on a hike or standing in a long line.
“My cane user friend told me this person looks like they’re faking, so it must be true”: WRONG! Being a cane user doesn’t immediately make you an expert on all different conditions and experiences. Your friend does not know the random cane user walking down the street, they are going off looks and stereotypes. Disabled people are not immune to being ableist.
“They enjoy their cane too much/they’re too happy/they decorate their cane, so they can’t actually be in enough pain to need a cane” WRONG! We’re people like everyone else, and we experience positive emotions too, even if we go through a lot of pain. To me, customizing my cane is like getting a tattoo or putting streaks in my hair, it’s a way of self expression. And we deserve to be able to talk openly about our full experience, which include the parts we’re neutral or happy about.
“They’re one of those cringey teenagers who name themselves arson and like dsmp, so they’re probably faking” WRONG! Do I even have to explain why saying someone isn’t disabled because of their name and interests is messed up and also stupid? Or did you already know that and just wanted to make fun of a disabled teenager?
“They’re too young to be using a cane, so they must be faking” WRONG! there are lots of disabilities or injuries that can cause young people to need a mobility aid. For example, I use a cane for my fibromyalgia.
“They only use it in private places, and never in places where people recognize them, so they must be faking” WRONG! In a world where anyone can just randomly take out their phone, take a picture of a cane user, and post them online to be made fun of, it can be stressful to use a cane in public areas. Also, they may not want people to ask questions, or they may feel embarrassed about it.
“I saw them switch hands, so they must be faking” WRONG! There are different reasons a cane used might do this, but I’m going to use my experience as an example. My fibromyalgia is not consistent. Sometimes one leg hurts more then the other. But as I said, fibromyalgia is inconsistent, and sometimes my other leg will start to hurt more or need more support, which is when I switch hands. And when both my legs hurt equally, I may switch my hand if it’s getting too sore.
“They told me they feel like they’re faking when they use their cane, doesn’t that mean they don’t really need it?” WRONG! Imposter syndrome is strong in a lot of disabled people, especially when for a lot of our lives we were told by doctors that we were fine and just being dramatic. Anxiety is also comorbid with a lot of physically disabilities, which only strengthens this. To add to this, something that I’ve felt and seen other disabled people talk about it, when their disability aid lessens the pain, they start thinking “well I’m not in that much pain so I don’t really need it” even though the reason they’re not in that much pain is because of the aid. I know it seems dumb, but imposter syndrome can be that strong and affects disabled people a lot.
“They don’t have a diagnosis, so they must be faking” WRONG! First of all, diagnoses are expensive. On their own they’re often already expensive, but counting the tons of tests you have to take to confirm the diagnosis? Absolutely ludicrous. Some may also choose not to get a diagnosis, so that they don’t have to deal with the prejudice and setbacks of being diagnosed. Also, some people use a cane for injuries, and for stress or fatigue related pains.
These are only a few of the things I commonly hear from fakeclaimers, and I wanted to just put out a reminder that fakeclaiming hurts the disabled community much, much more than it does ableists. Next time you see someone with a cane switch hands, or someone with a wheelchair stand up, or someone with crutches put them down, before you immediately call them out to a friend, take a picture, or write a post: does your fakeclaim rely on stereotypes? Are your reasons things that apply to ambulatory aid users?
If so, just stop. Be mindful. Please.

Another question on how to draw Night furies...
This ones a bit subtle i guess? But how do you come up with patterns? Like Toothless in movie 1? I've been particularly obsessed with Prospers (bby girl <3) and her fantastic coloration. (I love that grey. Sorta a Juniper grey. Considered it as the paint color for my room once!)
First off thank you so much!!! Prosper my beloved <333
I’d recommend starting off by looking at the patterns of real animals. I find cats to be a good reference. I took some inspiration from colourpoint-cats for Prosper’s design!! As her face, lower legs, wing and fins are all darker than the rest of her body.
I’d also HIGHLY recommend some good ol’ consistency. It can make or break a design. For example,
If you put a pattern on the top of the wings, including that pattern on the secondary wings and the tail fins creates a much more cohesive and interesting design. Now whilst the one on the right isn’t inherently bad, it could definitely be better by keeping design features consistent.
This applies to any part of the body with relation to one another!! Making the underbelly and the underside of the wings/fins the same colour keeps the design unified. Making the legs the same colour/pattern keeps the design unified. Having the same undertones throughout the pattern keeps it unified. Aim for relative symmetry. Doesn’t have to be perfect, but generally within nature, animals will look the same no matter if you look at them from the left or the right.
Now obviously that is not a definite rule. You under no circumstances have to keep your design symmetrical! But if your design is going to have inconsistencies throughout it, then make them intentional.
Now this could be something small or something big! Maybe your design is mostly symmetrical, the only thing being different is that they have a white patch around their left eye. Boom. That is a defining, intentional feature. You didn’t accidentally make that left eye white; it was a conscious decision and is an identifiable attribute. Or maybe, in Prosper’s case, they’re missing their whole ass right wing. That was VERY intentional. And whilst it is a design inconsistency, since she isn’t symmetrical, her design in still unified, because I included details such as more scarring and wounds, predominantly on her right side. - And whilst her missing a wing isn’t related to her patterns or colours, it is still a design feature, and something to be considered!!
Do not take any of this as rules that you must follow to make a good design. There are so many different aspects that go into making patterns that it’s hard to narrow it down into a few simple steps. Do some experimenting!! Try symmetry, try a complete and utter lack of symmetry!! Come up with specific design ideas to base the dragon around. Maybe your night fury has a jet black body with one singular, jittery, random white line that strikes down its back. Maybe your night fury’s pattern is so symmetrical that it puts the symmetry tool out of business. There are so many possibilities for colouration and patterns that dr strange would be pressed to count them.

Olympics AU Info dump!
First, I am blown away by how much love the series is getting, thank you all so much! I do really enjoy all the comments and reactions in the tags. Know that they all delight me and the only reason I don’t reply to everything is because there are so many! But I read them all 💕
General questions:
Can you draw the designs or concepts? Write fanfic in this AU?
Yes of course! I’d love for you to tag me if you post them so I can see
Do they all know each other?
At first, I would say no- with the exception of Nico and Will (they’re developing a whole backstory in my head that I cannot and will not stop.). But they all meet in the Olympic Village after the opening ceremonies and quickly become friends. They all try their best to attend each other’s events. (Someone please tell me how Percabeth becomes a thing. Please. 🙏 )
Why didn’t Percy win gold?
Percy was an Olympic medalist in swimming before moving to diving. After competing in several swimming events and feeling like they were all just small variations of the same thing, he wanted more of a challenge. He chose diving to stay rooted in to the water, but to add a new dimension to his bodily awareness and control.
What’s Annabeth and Luke’s rivalry?
They most definitely trained together, and it was Luke’s skill that motivated Annabeth to aim for the Olympics. But, she wanted to compete for her home country, Greece, which Luke thought was just a shortcut since there was a clearer path to an Olympic team in a smaller country. Annabeth is constantly trying to prove to him that she would have made it to the top of the sport either way.
Also, apologies to the IRL fencers out there for the inconsistency. I know fencing is a gendered sport, and Annabeth’s gear/style are inconsistent, please forgive the oversight ️🫶
Volleyball?
The whole Hunters of Artemis are a volleyball team (that apparently has no country 😅). Thalia ends up the captain. When Reyna moves on from tennis they welcome her with open arms.
Rejected sports
Will as a runner. Canonically, he’s super fast, but just having him as a sprinter didn’t fit with his personality.
Will as a pole vaulter. Specifically the guy that lost because he was ‘blessed a little too much’ and knocked down the bar. I will not explain further.
Will as a gymnast. He was this || close to being a gymnast essentially modeled after Steven Nedoroscik, I had the sketch and everything. (I shared it here!) But when an anyonomous ask clued me into the sick medical team uniforms it all fell into place from there. (Thank you no-longer-anon @helyeahmangocheese !)
Percy in anything equestrian related. I see him not having the patience for all the formality of it all, but he definitely crashes Hazel’s shows and chats up all the competition (the horses.)
Annabeth on a sailing team. Also, related to that, Reyna on a sailing team. It was a fun idea, especially for Reyna and her history with pirates but ultimately it was really hard to capture in a few illustrations.
Nico in several winter sports. For consistency mostly. He could fit for a lot of winter sports - ice skating and snowboarding are my personal favorites.
Leo as a shooter. He would most definitely build his own gear and make tweaks to his weapon. Which would get him immediately disqualified.
Jason in discus. Jason as a basketball player. Golf is just… fitting. 😂
Other Characters I’ve been thinking about
(that may have art in the works… and may not actually be athletes!)

Meg
Grover

something that has bothered me about tua seasons 2-4 is the inconsistency of the relationships between the siblings.
starting with klaus, in season 1 ben and diego were his people. ben and klaus were always shown together in the flashbacks to them as kids and obviously every second of the show because klaus was the only one who could see him. but like… they were CLOSE. SO FUCKING CLOSE. they were the most SIBLINGS of all the siblings.
that continued into season 2. ben was randomly a bit colder towards klaus but they were still so fucking close.
and then ben left, and klaus for the first time was alone without his person. everyone else lost a brother when they were 17, except klaus. so he had to grieve ben for the first time. that didn’t happen, though. there were many nods to them being close, and then of course steve blackman pulled a steve blackman which means weird unnecessary incest implications, but it wasn’t clear just how close klaus and brellie ben were even though it had to be hard to be around someone who looked like ben and was kind of ben but also wasn’t ben.
and with diego, it also seemed like he and klaus were incredibly close. diego older-brothered klaus constantly s1 and they gave off the impression that they ran into each other a lot in the city during the years since leaving the academy.
then they completely disregarded it for the rest of the seasons. in s2 and s3 there a few interactions that could lend credence to this but for the most part it seemed like they threw it out the window.
allison and klaus had no clear relationship in season 1. they had some incredibly minor sibling interactions but nothing that indicated they were anywhere near as close as they imply in season 4. season 2 they were close and then season 3 not a lot of interaction. but s4 makes it seem like they have always been incredibly close which doesn’t make sense!!
five and viktor have a relatively consistent friendship, although s4 doesn’t really give viktor any relationship development with his siblings. same with five, if anything he just gets his relationships destroyed but that’s a different post!!
allison and viktor also are pretty consistently close. the implication is that they weren’t as kids but that they really try to be as adults, and i do like their relationship overall.
luther and allison nasty ew kill it with fire. like i thought we established in s2 that incest is weird actually and that we weren’t doing that and then season 3 came along and whatever whatever shut up.
diego and luther’s relationship is fun. they go from adversaries to himbo besties and it’s relatively consistent.
luther and viktor have similar growth. luther goes from piece of shit basically causing the apocalypse s1 because of how shitty he was to viktor towards really wanting to make things right and being the big brother he always should have been. they didn’t really have a relationship s4 but WHATEVER.
i feel like five and luther were together a lot the first two seasons and that very much changed. i’m not even that upset as i think five having character arcs with each sibling is good since he missed so many years with them (other than him and viktor they were always close and should have remained that way).
i think allison and diego and viktor and diego having relationship development would have been cool. in the comics viktor and diego have a band so we know they’re friends. and in the show allison and diego don’t have too many interactions but the ones they do have are SOOOO SIBLING and i adore that.
ben and viktor have some closeness s3-4 (and the end of s2) but it’s not really something we see, more so we’re just told. and then random flashback to them hanging out as kids before the mission which was confusing.
i think five and klaus were done the dirtiest with the relationship inconsistency. i understand wanting different characters to have arcs with different people, but when you sacrifice the established relationships and basically put your characters on shuffle then you also sacrifice character consistency, development, growth, etc.
i think a big problem is how many characters they brought on last season. there wasn’t time for consistent relationships among the brellies when they had to use a shit ton of time building new characters and relationships (and immediately killing them all off which was A Choice).
anyway just wanted to write out thoughts about this. would love to know other people’s thoughts (or headcanons about the siblings).

How They Text
Ot7 x Reader
Summary: What the members texting habits would be like with their crush or S/o
Warnings: slightly suggestive
A/N: thanks to the lovely anon who requested this! I hope you like it!
Masterlist
°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•
Jin: Jin I think is a very simplistic, but teasing texter. He’ll ask for your opinion on random things like “What should I get for lunch?” only to quip back like two minutes later with “wrong answer, I’m ordering chicken”. If you’re just in the flirty/crush stage, he tries to leave a bit of time in between texts, but once you’re dating, he texts regularly throughout the day about whatever he’s doing or thinking of “Do you think I’d look good with purple hair?”
Yoongi: I think Yoongi texts quite frequently, tho sometimes it’s only a *thumbs up emoji* He’s a man of slightly fewer words, and his texts reflect that, most of them being single word messages like “Dinner??” “Morning” “Missyou(intentionally written as one word like he’s mumbling)”. Every now and then tho, you’ll get one of his 2am, multi-paragraph messages about how much he cares for you and how much you mean to him🥺
Hobi: Hobi is consistent, responding quickly to all your messages, regardless of where you are relationship-wise. He makes sure to text you everyday, even if it’s just “Good morning!😊” and “Goodniiiiigt😘” so you know that he’s thinking of you. He also sends lots of playful selfies of his daily routine with teasing little captions like “bet you wish you were here” with a pic of him getting coffee or hanging out at rehearsals. He also randomly sends sweet little notes about how he’s thinking about you or how he misses you, especially if he’s traveling/on tour.
Namjoon: I think he texts a little inconsistently. If he’s home and in his usual routine, he texts you multiple times throughout the day, but if he’s busy or traveling, he tends to lose track of time and forgets til you text first. I think he prefers talking on the phone or in person, so he mainly texts to send updates abt his day/schedule. I feel like he texts a lot when he’s needy/horny, so if he’s suddenly really quick answering your messages, you know what’s up👀
Jimin: Jimin is a very cutesy texter, with lots of “<3”s and “smooch”s following whatever he says. He sends lots of lil reminders to look after yourself like “It’s cold today, don’t forget your jacket” or “I know you’re busy w work/school, but pls make sure to eat dinner”. He likes to play hard to get now and then, sending flirty little comments and then intentionally leaving you on ‘sent’ for a lil bit just to try and make you antsy, but if you do the same to him, he will get soo sulky
Taehyung: I see Tae being semi-inconsistent with his texts. He’s the type to send you multiple texts in a row, but then once you respond, it takes him like an hour to reply back with just a“Yea”😑 He tends to get somewhat needy/sentimental in the evenings before bed, sending cute lil comments and scenarios like “we should buy a house somewhere by the ocean, that way we can go for walks on the beach whenever we want” “My bed’s not nearly as comfy w/o you to cuddle😔"
Jungkook: He’s a famously bad texter, leaving everybody on read constantly or taking half a day minimum to reply, but I like to think he would be more attentive if it’s from his crush or S/o(getting prompt answers from him is definitely a partner privilege) He tends to mostly send memes, but when he’s drunk, he texts a lot, rambling about how much he likes you and things he wants to do with you. They’re mostly innocent, but there’s definitely a few things that are a bit spicier too😳

Tough Love: Take Responsibility & Be Consistent!
༘˚⋆𐙚。⋆.✧˚༘˚⋆𐙚。⋆.✧˚༘˚⋆𐙚。⋆.✧˚༘˚⋆𐙚。⋆.✧˚༘˚⋆𐙚。⋆.✧˚༘˚⋆𐙚。⋆.✧˚༘˚⋆𐙚。⋆.✧˚
It's time to take responsibility for your manifestations.
You want to manifest money, but you keep telling yourself you're broke and complaining about how you never have enough for anything.
You want to manifest beauty, but you constantly put yourself down, calling yourself ugly every time you look in the mirror.
You want to manifest better grades, but you keep calling yourself stupid or dumb every time you make a mistake.
You want to create your dream life, but you're still stuck in the past, complaining about how things used to be.
If you truly want to manifest your desired life, you need to stop this. Stop putting yourself down and start being more disciplined and mindful with your thoughts and words.
Instead of talking about being broke, start telling yourself how you're going to buy everything on your wishlist because you have an abundance of money.
Instead of calling yourself ugly, start acknowledging how beautiful you are and point out the features you love about yourself.
Instead of complaining when things don’t go your way, start affirming how everything in your life is perfect and that everything is always working out for you.
"But I don't have the time and energy to be disciplined about every single thoughts and about my words."
But you have the time and energy to complain? You have the time and energy to put yourself down again and again?
If you're tired of living a life that doesn’t fulfill you, then something needs to change. Enough is enough. You don’t have to keep living in a way that doesn’t bring you happiness.
Start taking responsibility and start aligning your words and thoughts to your desires, and STAY CONSISTENT WITH IT. Don't just try for 1 day or a week, and then immediately give up and go back to your old ways of thinking just because you haven't seen any results that you want.
If you already had everything you desired, would you be obsessing over it every single day, wondering if it’s going to show up? No. Why? Because you know it’s yours.
Think about it: If you’ve always had brown eyes, would you keep checking the mirror every minute to see if they’re still brown? Of course not. You know they are, and you always have. The same goes for your desires. When you stay consistent with your thoughts, words, and actions, there’s no need to keep checking if they’ve shown up yet because you already know they are coming. You already have them.
Imagine you’ve spent the whole week affirming how tall you are. But then, you look in the mirror and say, “Ugh, why am I so short?” Your brain is going to get confused. You’ve been affirming one thing and contradicting it with your words and beliefs. This inconsistency will only slow down your manifestations.
Remember: You are the creator of your reality. You decide what’s real or not in your 3D world. If you keep affirming the opposite of what you want, that’s what will show up.
So, get disciplined and stay consistent with your thoughts, words, and actions. And watch as your desires start to manifest into your life. ✨

Rust’s never type is wild to me.
So, if you’re not familiar with type theory, the empty type, which we’ll denote ∅ here (which Rust calls never, but more on that later) is the type with no elements.
But…how do you actually say that the type “has no elements” within the type theory?
You can’t say something like ¬∃x, x : ∅, in part because inside most type theories, this statement doesn’t even make sense: we need to know the type of x when bound, and more importantly, typing judgments like x : ∅ are not statements you can make within the theory itself.
Actually, you often don’t even want to use ¬ at all: we want to define ¬P in terms of ∅ as P → ∅ ! This is because having an element of the empty type would (if all goes well) be a contradiction, so if you can construct such a contradiction out of P (i.e. ->), then P must be false. ∅ is near the foundations, so we don’t have much to work with when setting up its meaning.
What we can do is encode the principle of explosion, i.e. that given an element of the empty type (a contradiction!) we can derive anything.
That is, we have an axiom explode : ∀(A : Type), ∅ → A. For any type A, give me an element x of ∅, and I will hand you an element of that type (namely explode A x : A).
(If you’re familiar, ignore universe polymorphism/Type vs. Prop and the fact that A isn’t a type family.)
This is what makes the empty type the empty type. If we didn’t include this axiom, the empty type would have no real emptiness behavior besides “gee, I can’t quite figure out how to make an element of this type”. You wouldn’t know it’s empty, since there would be no consequences to finding out that something has type ∅.
(Aside: this axiom fits into a very general pattern of what it means to define a type inductively, and lets us do induction on the empty type”. It’s not ad-hoc!)
———
So it should be clear that if you ever do find an element of ∅, your theory is inconsistent, as you can prove anything you want.
Which is why Rust’s empty type, called never, is pretty neat. To me, someone who does not know Rust, and who literally opened the docs as soon as I installed them, scrolled down, and said “ooh, what’s never?”
See, Rust expressions can have type never. (I’m calling them expressions; I don’t know if this is what rustaceans call them)
But, how?! Surely that breaks everything! Well…yes. Which is why the only way to maintain consistency is to have these expressions break everything.
Let me explain: the things with type never never return a value (hence the name). They diverge: they’re things like exit or break or infinite loops.
And thanks to the explode axiom, these expressions can be coerced to any type. For example, you can say x: u32 = { exit() }, and Rust will say “makes sense to me”. (Apologies for any bad Rust syntax.)
This is—surprisingly!—fine.
exit() : never, just like any element of the empty type, really is a contradiction in the type system, but being able to write it in Rust code doesn’t actually make the type system inconsistent—since we leave the type system as soon as it’s encountered. (Or, in the case of an infinite loop, we never manage to actually finish constructing a value of never.)
So, while the syntax of Rust can contain “contradictions”, they never get the chance to behave as contradictions in the model of Rust’s type system formed by the values it constructs at runtime. I.e. running a real program never invalidates the type system. We’re saved from the runtime nonsense that would be created by explode A x by having the system actually explode instead.
There’s something to be said for this, but it is weird. Saying “x : u32” in Rust is apparently scoped in a certain way: it says “as long as the value we call x exists, it has type u32.” It doesn’t guarantee the existence of something with type u32.
This means that you don’t actually have to break the whole type system to use never; you just have to break the context in which x exists. E.g., if you’re inside a function, then let x: bool { return 500 }, where the return returns to the outer function, is fine. x never finishes being constructed, so the guarantee provided by its type annotation is (vacuously) satisfied.
I wonder if this is linked to the notion of lifetimes in Rust, and how that’s reflected in the theory behind the type system. And I’m not a type theorist (or someone who knows Rust), but I am also curious how type theorists talk about diverging terms; in Lean, for example, a top-level term of type Empty is verboten. You create diverging terms by using the partial keyword, and then you’re prohibited from proving anything about their behavior (but they still have types as usual).
This isn’t the first time people have talked about this, by far, I’m sure; happy to hear any takes (or corrections). Much to learn! :)

Pit Babe 2, ep 7
Live Reaction Thoughts
Standard warning applies: may will contain inconsistent/excessive punctuation and capitalization, talking to myself, talking to the characters, rampant speculation, and many many questions to self.
Charlie is pushing Babe away to keep him safe, I’m guessing. Because him all of a sudden being insecure really doesn’t ring true and Babe would be questioning everything if he wasn’t so upset.
Willy backstory! finally
oh I didn’t expect that wow; Willy is one of Tony’s experiments and presumably it worked on him?
I’m still confused about Willy’s goal being to bring Charlie in. Is he messing with Babe just to be evil or is he trying to break them up so Charlie will somehow then want to go to Tony? Make it make sense. Willy, please explain your reasoning, 10-slide PPT format optional, but preferred.
Once again, Charlie goes off on his own and doesn’t tell anyone what he’s doing; will Jeff tell anyone this time though?
aw Babe :( at least Charlie didn’t fake his death this time?
well you treat the team like a family instead of a business, sooo
Kawin = Willy?
argh Charlie just trust him
Pavel is breaking my heart; he’s so freaking good
Even if I hadn’t seen the spoiler from the second half, that scene would have given away that something big was going to happen later.
good job guys, just retraumatize the witness
uh oh Charlie said too much when he left and now Babe suspects that something’s going on?
ding ding ding
I didn’t expect Jeff to reveal the truth so fast, but I guess he remembers how last time went.
lol nice try Charlie
and again, Pavel - the crack in his voice? - love they used that take
UFDAH
“I’ll leave the ring here. Wear it if you want. If not, that’s okay too.” just kill me now
oh shit this is cool; what’s he seeing?!!?? multiple futures all at the same time??
this scene is seriously gorgeously shot wow
but also that shot of Babe looking up at Charlie while opening his jeans with his teeth is going to live rent free in my head all week
wtf why was he driving?
aw Jeff :(
!!!
Didn’t expect that, but I’m also not surprised Charlie would try and take Jeff’s power. I am here for the ill-advised sacrifice play.
an extra screenshot this week, just because
Final Thoughts
This show is consistently giving us great episodes and I am loving it.
We finally found out some of Willy's history. Turns out he's one of Tony's (seemingly) successful experiments. Horrifying and terrible and clearly not a valued one. Which is very weird, because you'd think that it would make Willy more valuable to Tony. If only to help his scientists figure out why it worked on him.
Kim and Kenta had another Moment(TM) this week, complete with extended slo-mo. I liked the car one better, tbh. And, apologies to the actor’s contract, but that scene with Pete could have been an email.
North and Sonic. sigh. The way they are drawing them out is not working, because they're doing the same thing over and over again. I wish North was confiding in someone so we at least get some plot movement. Dean is right there, show. It would have been a great use of his character if Sonic all of a sudden saw North talking to him all hush-hush and got jealous, even with how cliche it’d be. At this rate, they’ll get together all in a rush right at the end.
All of the Babe and Charlie scenes this week were excellent - so much angsty goodness. I genuinely thought they’d repeat the season one plot with Charlie off doing his own thing trying to draw out Tony, and Babe would find out at the worst moment in an episode or two. I am so pleased to be wrong. They’re not actually back together, but at least now Babe knows that Charlie still loves him, even if he’s determined to stick with his plan. And I get why Charlie’d leave the ring off, but ouch.
I loved the way they filmed Jeff’s decline. The angle of the camera as it followed him into the house, then the slow reveal combined with the lack of the usual special effects signaling that he was having a vision was so creepy and so impactful. The only misstep was later when he was driving, because come on. He’d have never gotten in a car in that state. Everything in the hospital after was great though.
That no dialogue hair dryer scene. Domestic and sexy and sweet all at the same time. Also the music choice was A+. SO GOOD.
Is it next Friday, yet?!

Zero Day Personality Type Analysis (Color Edition)
Okay so I made a poll asking what colors other people associated Cal and Andre with… and as I suspected, more people voted that Andre is red and Cal is blue. To me, this is a totally reasonable assumption and I don’t really think there’s a Wrong answer, They’re fictional characters and fandom is supposed to be fun. But it’s not my opinion so now I have to be annoying and talk about it because I LOVE yapping. So if any of you care, here’s my analysis of their color personality types.
Andre is Blue! I guess if we are being really specific, he’s a very navy/royal blue. Something deep and vivid and emotion evoking.
Color psychology suggests that people with blue personality types are introverted, task oriented, and thinkers. They’re a “let’s do it right” group of people. They can be analytical and logical, idealistic, and perfectionist.
These are all very obvious traits we see in Andre’s character. He has a complex vision for exactly how Zero Day will pan out and how things will happen afterwards. He almost seems to live outside of reality when making his plans, not allowing room for things to go wrong or creating backup plans.
The negative aspects associated with a blue type personality are an inability to think on their feet, uncomfortable in chaotic and stressful environments, and overly critical of themselves and others.
I think we kind of see this a lot actually during Zero Day itself, but Heavily in one instance outside of the big mission. All of their little missions go exactly to plan besides one; Cal’s Poem scene. He seems stressed from the get-go about Cal’s lack of explanation. He asks him why he’s dressed the way he is and asks questions the entire time they’re sitting in the audience. After his poem, he flips out, even having a major outburst in the car. That’s the first and only time we really see him react aggressively/passionately to stress in particular.
During Zero Day, it’s very obvious that Cal is way more into it than Andre is. Andre views it like a mission, as a solider carrying out a specific set of tasks. He has some fuck ass things to say, calling himself God and screaming into the phone… but he’s not nearly as trigger happy and energetic about it as Cal is. And the one time he really is, he’s immediately corrected and pushed forward by Cal.
Blue personality types are also the Loyal Leaders. They value trust and the ability to trust others severely when it comes to relationships. They tend to view the world around them as hostile and like to feel extremely secure with the people they keep around them. This can make them extremely controlling, needing their circle to have the ability to conform to their ideas, plans, and values to ensure that nothing really pushed them out of their comfort zone. Once they form a relationship, it’s next to impossible to sever without extreme circumstances of “disobedience” or “trust betrayal”.
Cal, however, is Red! In general, he’s a pretty complex and inconsistent sort of character. Where we see Andre react in pretty predictable ways and his interactions with other people, when we see them, are generally consistent… Cal has a wide range of character traits. We see him quiet, loud, angry, nervous, playful, alone, and with other people. He acts a little out of the ordinary, visible in scenes like his poem and how he makes Andre drive afterwords.
Red personalities are described as creative and spontaneous. They are passionate and straightforward. They have a need for quick action and don’t really enjoy delay or waiting.
When positive, red personality types are dynamic. They have a need to feel in charge and have the ability to adapt to their surroundings to keep themselves feeling in control of a situation. This often leads to subconscious (or conscious) manipulation as it’s driven by a goal. Andre doesn’t have the need to “fool people” per say, the way Cal does. He is not shown interacting with many people his own age and it’s implied that this is because nobody likes him. I wouldn’t call Cal extroverted by any means, but he has a chameleon like ability to blend into crowds. He did have people fooled, down to the end… where despite his aggression and violence, he’s seen as someone innocent and manipulated.
Cal lacks the ability to be meticulous in planning the way Andre is. Andre comes up with the idea of locking the tapes up, Andre planned their missions, Andre is the talker and the front man, but Cal doesn’t agree with the idea of him being his Leader. He views them on equal playing fields, a team. There’s a patience that Andre possesses that Cal doesn’t have. The second they stopped moving, he yelled at Andre until they moved. He coaxed Andre into ending Zero Day the way that they did.
I think a lot of his core personality traits get looked over because he’s depressed, honestly. He doesn’t seem to match the anger and passion that Andre has until Zero Day, when he surpasses it. He’s incredibly observant, sitting behind the camera. In a sense, he guides our story. It only happens when he records, a silent director for the film.
Another red trait he expresses is his utter inability to SHUT HIS DAMN MOUTH. Andre is the thinker, overthinking at some points, and leads with an intellectual thought process. Cal shoots off at the mouth every thought he has. Shoot first, ask questions later. Red is about wild creativity rather than intellectual creativity. Andre has life progressing hobbies: track, science club, engineering major. Cal plays in the band, which while it can be life progressing, that doesn’t seem to be the case here.
I think he possesses all the main Red characteristics: passion, aggression, impulsiveness, creativity, fast paced, and pragmatic… but we can lose them to his withdrawal. It’s clear he’s depressed and it affects the way he acts. He canonically uses mind/emotion altering substances. But there are several instances when we see them. Zero Day itself being the main one. He simply wants to hurt people and then die, whereas Andre wants to make a point and leave a mark.
#zero day 2003#zero day#caldre#andre kriegman#calvin gabriel#zero day headcanons#plz don’t take this too seriously I just like them a lot and wanted to know what other people thought#pleaseeeee feel free to talk to me in the comments about it if y’all wanna I love chit chatting#all opinions are welcome here

dallas wings analysis
hypothetically speaking if i was the coach of this dallas wings team this would be my strategy:
defense creates offence. we’ve all heard that saying a millions times but for a team that claims they prioritize defence, they are probably one of the worst defensive teams i’ve ever seen. this all inevitably comes down to one big question: what makes a good defensive team? it’s not just about a few players blocking and stealing (ex. paige and lyss). it’s all about consistency and focus. when you take a look at some of best defensive players in the nba, lou dort for example, you notice not only his sheer talent and athleticism but also his inability to give up. he dives for that ball, he stays on his toes, he fights over screens, he pays attention to little things like having his arms out during pick and rolls, he face guards every one (i could praise him for hours). this is the type of energy i need to be seeing from this so-called defensive team. it genuinely comes down to those smaller details that often go unnoticed.
once again on the defensive side of things, this team lacks depth in not only their overall roster but also in their literal players. almost all of the players on this team are heavily struggling in a major area of the game but refuse to improve or adapt on a game-to-game basis. take arike for example; she’s quick, shifty and a very talented scorer but then she’s also inefficient, has poor shot selection and can’t handle being double teamed with on-ball pressure. another example is lyss; she’s big, incredibly strong, can rebound and crash the glass but then she’s also slow, inconsistent and lacking energy most of the time. this team NEEDS so focus on creating a versatile and adaptable line up that knows how to handle themselves on both sides of the floor.
in-game adjustments: one of the things that irritates me most about bad coaching decisions is when the coach refuses to admit they were wrong. i understand chris’ mentality of like “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it” when it comes to the line ups because realistically they’re not losing games by large margins. often times it looks like they could easily take control of the game but that’s just simply not good enough to sustain leads let alone take wins. when we take a look at rick carlisle (indiana pacers head coach), he never shys away from picking someone off the bench who can come in a shift the momentum of the game (this also comes back to my 2nd point of this team lacking depth) but this dallas team has literally no one on the bench that you can rely on to do that.
try out different line up sizings and styles: i’m a big advocate for changing the spacing on the floor when you can’t get stops and this dallas team struggles heavily in that area. i believe that by trying out a simple double or even single big line up (lyss and siegrest would be my starters but constantly switching) and keeping everything else smaller (for example paige, nai, jj and rike) this could help tremendously with opening up the floor but also increasing the overall speed, endurance and shiftiness of the line up. this team often looks visibly slow out there so by having more explosive players on the floor it will immediately increase the teams energy and allow them to establish better court pressure and force some turnovers to generate more offensive opportunities.
this team is a mess in transition both offensively and defensively. if i was the head coach we would spend a significant amount of time focusing on fast break plays as well as how to set up good transition defensive. most times it looks like their scrambling to get back when they turn the ball over or miss offensive rebounds which causes them to make stupid mistakes and allows the offence to score on almost every one of these possessions.
i could keep going but i’m gonna stop now. i wanna mention that i study this game for a living im an academy basketball coach (i’m 19 though still new) so while i haven’t seen every single game of this season i can get a pretty good idea based off the 6 or 7 that i’ve watched.

Mitsumasa Kido’s my number 1 opp
Manga verse - I know the author preferred to focus on emotions and intensity rather than consistency, but I wanted to yap for a bit.
We are told that all 100 Kido children are orphans. But there is a bunch of inconsistencies with this scenario...
First a recap :
As we know, Kido fathered them all. They show a flashback of him in tome 7 with baby Athena, explaining that he has 100 kids (so he knows), and asking god why he chose him. (He's speaking by himself) Riiiiight after, he decides all by himself that he should sacrifice them, comparing himself to Abraham. Note that no god answered him, he concluded all this on his own. He also mentions that he's old with only a couple years left (later proven right) and that after this HE put the kids in orphanage, so they don't have emotional connections.
There's a LOT to unpack.
First of all, ok, asshole, you're literally putting fake words in an (in this precise case) non-existent god to justify your terrible actions. No, you didn't HAVE to put those boys through all of this, you CHOSE to do this. You could've literally hired soldiers with a good cosmos potential and train have them train to become knights or even contacted some knights themselves to convince them to deflect Saga, since clearly you had enough connection to send a whole 100 kids to train for cloths.
You KNEW you had 100 kids? Not 10, 15 or even 20 but you knew about a whole century worth of your crotch goblins. Just how? They’re in 1986, so no internet, you need an annuary to find a number or send letters to communicate. And he has at least an ex-partner living in Russi, which currently is technically the URSS. That means either ALL these women were willing to tell him they had given birth (sometimes twice, like Shun and Ikki’s mother) and willing to update him about his sons, despite him clearly not being a part of their life since by age 5-9 they had no idea who he was. OR he has enough money, spies and whatever to be able to stalk all of them for no reason apparently, since he hadn’t met Athena yet. (You won’t get to believe an old rich man with an official heir would care about all 100 of his kids, especially since he quite literally doesn’t, as it takes him 5 minutes max to decide to sacrifice all of their lives)
You’re so old you’re almost a foot in the coffin already? And you have a hundred BABIES ?? Cuz’ yeah, he had all his 100 children within 2-3 years when he was already this old??? And his official heir is ALSO a baby at the time, being like 3 years old??? Also, how do you have no daughter?
Seika, let’s talk about her. Technically, she could Seiya’s half sister not related to Kido. But that’s kind of unlikely, given the overall trajectory. So does he simply not count the daughters? Does he actually have 200+ kids??? THAT’S EVEN WORSE.
You put them in orphanage ? So they weren’t in one at first…?
WHAT DID HE DO TO THE MOMS ????
He either
Killed them all, let's not lie to oursleves, it's clearly not above him, given all either informations we have, and he clearly won't go bankrupt because of a couple hitmans. I'd count Natassia in there, since her death was super sketchy. Seriously, HOW was she the one left on the boat ??? And the only one, too ? Should would have been with Hyoga the entire time, so she wasn't late or something, also 80's mentality, women and kids first...
Killed some, bought other over, and just took the kids from the other. By all logic, those women weren't like nobles he met at parties or things like that. They were most likely poor woman he manipulated, porstitutes or....victims... (Old wealthy man in 80's japaanse society, you do the math)
Somehow manipulated them into thinking he was taking their son in to give him a better live, on the condition that she wouldn't interfere. He was rich after all, so a mother without big revenue would probably want to do the best for her child, not knowing what horrors she would put him trough.
And all that for what ? Sure, Seiya and the 9 others became knights, and the bronze 5 were even powerful. BUT 90 died ??? Couldn't he at least have done a cosmos check, to at least make sure they had a chance ???
I have a main theory, that is simple but blodd curling. He clearly wanted them all to die. And using Saori's presence was a perfect excuse to get rid of his bastards, invoking divine autority to justify his crimes. See ? It even worked on Saori herself, who considers her grandfather a saint for the whole story, even asking the bronzes not to see him as a monster.
I hate this old man.

out of curiosity, how WOULD you rewrite snotlout's angels?
1. Since it's very much framed as a "Snotlout learns to respect women" episode, have him actually learn to respect women! He doesn’t so much learn anything as he's just running from place to place in fear of his life and then he apologizes at the end because he doesn’t want to get the shit kicked out of him again, not because he understood the issues with his behavior
2. I think the ideal version of this ep would be smth more along the likes of the ALTA episode "The Warriors of Kyoshi", Snotlout underestimates and offends the Wingmaidens based of some assumption he has about women, he realizes that his treatment of women has now caused him trouble twice in a row and he awkwardly asks if he can stay if he promises to help out and not be a dickhead since it's in his own best interests to get along better with women and he also has no idea how far the way back home would be, have them still be hostile towards him at first and then warm up to him a little as they see that he's making an earnest effort and seems to be getting along fine with the dragons, maybe he could learn a cool new fighting technique from them, then when the riders show up let them AND Snotlout help with some issue they have on the Island where Snotlout puts some of the things he picked up from working with the Wingmaidens to good use, showing them that men can be tolerated on their Island after all
3. The way the episode ends reads to me as a classic "not all men" statement, that there are some guys that just don’t respect women BUT most of them aren't like that so it's fine actually, whereas the message of "it's in your own best interest as a guy to be normal around women, by being weird towards them you're not just putting them off but you're making your own life actively harder for no reason so if you notice that you have some sexist attitudes actively working on yourself is worth it, you might even learn something new along the way"
4. Have Snotlout be more sexist towards the Wingmaidens (i could write a whole dissertation on the way Snotlout's behavior towards women is internally inconsistent and why i don’t really think of him as sexist but i digress) he's mostly just a shitty guest, only the comment he makes about Astrid and Ruffnut is really gendered. In isolation you could say that he is being a bad guest because his hosts are women but we know that not to be true, he's consistently inconsiderate and unaware of the way he comes across regardless of the other persons gender
5. Don't do the bit where none of the riders want to rescue Snotlout, they can be annoyed and make jokes at his expense but them just completely not giving a shit when their supposed friend is in mortal danger just wasn’t cool :(
6. Keep in the bit with Hookfang insisting that they keep flying tho, we don't get enough caring Hookfang and that was really cute :)
7. Again, since this episode is so focused on gender, have the intial conflict between Snotlout ans Astrid be more gender related, maybe reveal that he called her hysterical or smth
8. Don't call the Wingmaidens "natives", they’re litteraly not, they're made up of women who joined the tribe as adults and it's pretty yikesy that that term is exclusively used for a group that features non white characters that are implied to be cannibals
9. On that note CONFRIM THAT THEY'RE NOT ACTUALLY CANNIBALS, it's obviously implied that they aren't and they’re just fucking with Snotlout but it’s never said explicitly (Atali doesn’t mention it and Snotlout tells Astrid and presumably the others about almost getting cannibalized, it’s just not brought up again after he gets freed, which, you know, maybe that's smth you might have some questions about) so the fact that the Riders just end up becoming allies with the Wingmaidens when they would have every reason to think that they were going to eat one of them is really funny
10. When they return to the Island for "Ruff Transition" don’t have Snotlout act entitled around the Wingmaidens, it’s not like he was like that during "Chain of Command" so it just feels weird to have him arbitrarily regress in his character development for a joke, he doesn’t have to be super cool with them just let him do whatever
Actually since they never confirm that they weren’t going to cannibalize him in the first place, having Snotlout just be kinda awkward around them on the Riders return and when he asks directly whether they were going to to make him into a tastly little stew they just never give him a straight awnser because they enjoy fucking with him too much would be a hilarous bit they should have gone with that instead
#i mean i would have that that if i had the chance#just to keep him on his toes a little#httyd#how to train your dragon#rtte#race to the edge#snotlout#snotlout jorgenson#Snotlouts angels

favorite places for budget clothing basics?
Target.
Target has an amazing line called Auden with bras for $15 to $22. I have a few of the bras; they’re long-lasting and very comfortable, and I like that the demi-bras are natural-looking and the push-up bras are sky-high. The Auden line also has matching panties (I get the thick waistband, so nice), and I’m of the opinion that if you’re on a budget and want quality daily lingerie, the Auden line is a very good option. Target also has a lot of amazing options for clothing, I love their workwear and casual lines, and Target is one of my favorite shops for buying dresses, workout sets, and matching sets.
H&M.
I wear the Ava Jeans from H&M, and I really like them. They’re very high quality; I’m like 6 feet tall, and they’re long enough for me, and there’s a range of different sizes and washes. I also like a lot of H&M’s different tops and blouses and think that their dressier shirts are very nice. H&M is known for basic everyday wear, and I think the quality and sizing of their clothing is just a bit better and more consistent than Zara and/or Pacsun.
Brandy Melville.
At this point in time, the majority of my closet is from Brandy, and I love that so many of their items are 100% cotton. Brandy’s sizing is incredibly inconsistent; I was able to fit into their tops at a size 12 and at a size 2, and there are girls on TikTok and Instagram who make Brandy work at a size 16. Brandy is basic; that’s what I love about it. It’s one of the trendiest affordable stores out there, and most of the items are good quality as well as being a decently good value and usually <$30.
Aerie.
When Aerie puts their workout sets on sale, I go crazy. Aerie is one of my favorite stores, and I’m very fond of their gym skirts and exercise tops. I have flares and yoga pants that I bought ages ago that are still in perfect condition, and Aerie has fit me at all sizes. Aerie frequently has good sales, so I wouldn’t go buying anything at full price, and when things go on clearance, they go on clearance clearance. Some of my favorite yoga pants were $49.97 discounted down to $19.97, and my henley tops were $24.97 down to $4.97. If you like anything from Aerie, shop only during sales and always take a peek at the clearance section.
Princess Polly.
I firmly believe Princess Polly to be in the realm of fast fashion, but I still buy my basics, my going-out tops, and some of my day-to-day pieces from them. I personally really enjoy and like the quality and design of Princess Polly’s clothing; everything I’ve bought has been well made and sewn properly. I will say that I avoid their pleather and don’t make a habit of buying their items that I know are just polyester, so that’s why I think I’ve had so much success with what I’ve bought. Shop during sales, be sure to look at the clearance section, and be sure to look at reviews before buying.

Chapter 1: Part 3: Identifying Fakers/Chasers
In the search for a fulfilling relationship dynamic, many Darlings may come across individuals who claim to understand their needs and offer the promises of care and protection. However, not everyone who shows interest in a Darling's desires has the purest intentions. The harsh reality is that some individuals may try to manipulate, deceive, or use Darlings for their own gain. In this section, we’ll explore how to identify these types of individuals, often called Fakers and Chasers, and how to protect yourself from their hollow promises.
The Faker: Pretending to Care, Failing to Deliver
Fakers are individuals who claim to offer everything a Darling desires—protection, nurturing, obsession, and care—but their actions rarely align with their words. These are the people who say the right things, but when it comes down to actually investing time, effort, or resources into a relationship, they fall short. They may present themselves as the ideal Yandere or caretaker, offering false promises of security and love, but their lack of true commitment shows through when it matters most.
Key Traits of a Faker:
Empty Promises: Fakers love to talk about the future and how they would “do anything” for you, but their actions are inconsistent. They may promise to keep you safe, protect you, or even “save” you, but they never take concrete steps to prove their dedication.
Lack of Effort: They claim they want to provide for you, but when it comes time to actually show it—whether through emotional labor, physical care, or genuine actions—they are nowhere to be found. They might want the idea of being a protector, but they have no real interest in following through.
Fleeting Attention: A Faker's attention will come and go like the wind. They may act very interested one moment, showering you with affection and gifts, but when things get tough, their attention wanes. Darlings need consistency, and Fakers cannot provide it.
Superficial Knowledge: They may have superficial knowledge of Yandere-Darling dynamics or use general, textbook phrases, but they don't understand the depths of your emotional needs. A Faker might try to convince you they are the perfect match but lack the emotional intelligence to truly see you for who you are.
Red Flags:
They only talk about how they can "rescue" or "fix" you but never mention what you need or how they can actually support your emotional growth.
Their connection to you feels more like an image they’re trying to maintain rather than a genuine bond.
They want you to believe they’re the answer to all your problems, but they don’t acknowledge or address the actual complexity of your emotions.
The Chaser: Seeking Attention and Lust, Not True Care
Chasers are individuals who enter the Darling-Yandere dynamic for entirely self-serving reasons. They may be drawn to the idea of controlling or being obsessed with someone, but their motivations are often rooted in superficial attraction, lust, or a need for attention. Unlike the Faker, who at least pretends to care, Chasers are often honest about their intentions—they just don’t care enough about the Darling’s emotional well-being to build a true, meaningful relationship.
Key Traits of a Chaser:
Desire for Control, Not Love: Chasers may find the idea of a Darling appealing because it allows them to play the role of a controller or someone who “dominates.” However, their interest rarely goes beyond the thrill of the power dynamic. They may seek to control you, but they’re not interested in the deeper emotional connection or nurturing aspect of the relationship.
Lust Over Connection: They often view the Darling-Yandere dynamic through the lens of lust or sexual fantasy. A Chaser is primarily focused on satisfying their own desires, often neglecting the Darling’s needs for emotional fulfillment or safety.
Attention-Seeking: Chasers love the attention they get from playing the role of a protector, savior, or obsessed lover. The relationship is often about showing off their control or dominance in a way that garners attention from others—whether it’s through social media, role-playing, or flaunting their "ownership" of a Darling to boost their ego.
Lack of Emotional Depth: While they may claim to want to "care" for you, they are often uninterested in the complexities of your emotions. They might like the idea of you being vulnerable, but their focus is more on fulfilling their own fantasies than meeting your emotional needs.
Red Flags:
They continuously push for physical intimacy or expect you to cater to their needs without considering your emotional boundaries.
Their interest in you is inconsistent and motivated by how much attention or control they can gain from the dynamic.
They often try to move too quickly or create situations where they can feel in control, without actually building a relationship based on trust or genuine connection.
Protecting Yourself: How to Avoid Falling into the Hands of Fakers and Chasers
Listen to Your Gut: Often, your instincts will tell you if something feels off. Trust your inner voice when someone’s actions don’t align with their words. If someone promises you everything but never follows through, or if they seem more interested in getting attention than understanding your emotional needs, take a step back and evaluate their true intentions.
Demand Consistency: True care, especially in the Yandere-Darling dynamic, is built on consistency. A genuine Yandere will show up for you when you need them most. Fakers and Chasers may be around when it's convenient, but disappear when it’s time to really support you.
Ask the Tough Questions: Get clear on the intentions of the people around you. Do they want a deep emotional connection with you? Are they willing to work on nurturing a real, reciprocal relationship? Or do they just want to play out a fantasy of control and obsession?
Set Boundaries: Be clear about your needs and communicate your boundaries. If someone is unwilling to respect your emotional needs, or if they push you into uncomfortable situations, it’s a red flag. Fakers and Chasers will often ignore boundaries in favor of their own desires.
Observe Their Actions: Pay close attention to how they treat you over time. Do they show genuine concern for your emotional and mental well-being, or do they just want to fulfill their own needs at your expense? True devotion is consistent and selfless; empty gestures are often fleeting.

Twst spoilers for Book 7 and playful land
Just a heads up I’m going to be discussing the only actual "villain" in TWST and why his characterization bothers me. Also, keep in mind this is for the games only.
Okay, I’m slowly putting together why Henrique’s design and characterization bothers me story-wise and I think I figured it out.
It’s because his portrayal goes against things TWST set up: that no one is a “villain” and their crimes can be overlooked, no matter what.
The Overblots boys are a prime example of this, namely Azul and the Tweels who tricked their entire dorm and several other students into dodgy, immoral contracts that essentially turned them into slaves (and, I believe, gave the trio the “right” to literally beat them, but don’t quote me on that last part). However, after his contracts are burned and he recovers from over blotting, everything seems forgotten with no consequences.
And it’s not just the main cast either, it’s the side foes as well.
Eliza kidnapped Idia and was going to give him the literal kiss of death to fuel her delusions and wish for a “happy marriage.” Yet she is portrayed comically and a minor inconvenience even though, again, she was going to murder Idia.
Rollo used an ancient flower to steal magic from mages causing havoc for the city and endangering everyone, but gets no official punishment. In fact, no one other than the main cast knows he was behind it.
Even Fellow and Gidel, who were fucking human traffickers and who submitted people to fates worse than death, weren’t portrayed as villains. They were antagonists and a threat, but not "villains." And in the end they dance off into the sunset to start a school without even a call out for their sins.
While I personally hated this theme—as I just hate the easily forgiven trope in general--I can’t deny that the writers were consistent in how they handled all the antagonists in the game.
As terrible as their actions were, they were given humanizing traits and had their acts hand waved at the end. (Mostly, anyway. Jamil’s rep apparently took a blow but nothing major.) The writers had a theme and they stuck to it. Then Henrique appears.
Henrique is the only actual villain in TWST without any sympathetic traits or attractive features. He is just presented as a fat, stupid, irredeemable bastard. And while it’s a change of pace, it’s also an inconsistency within TWST.
With every other for they are presented as hot, or at least cute. I mean, look at them;
Even the side villains are cute in a way;
And look at Henrique;
See how the pattern has been thrown? The only other ones that might be deemed “uncute” are Gantu, the Trick or Treaters, and the ghosts. (YMMV)
And then, these guys aren’t seen as villains, just obstacles. Henrique, on the other hand is presented as being the old stereotypical villain twst has always steered clear from.
Appearance aside, his personality is shown to be prideful, gluttonous, greedy, and manipulative who plays on people’s emotions to get what he wants. And there are no sympathetic traits shown to balance those out which, again, goes against everything that had been presented before.
For example; even though Eliza wants to MURDER Idia, we see that she is beloved by her people and we are told that the reason she’s the way she is is because she never got to fulfill her dream of a perfect wedding due to being invaded and murdered that day.
Another one is Rollo. Although, he causes a lot of harm, the audience sees that this is a trauma response due to losing his younger brother who misused magic.
Now, the reason for this MIGHT be because when we see Henrique it’s in Lilia’s dream.
Yes, it's all Lilia’s memories but they’re being brought to the surface by Malleus’ spell which, as we saw in other dreams such as Epel’s, has interesting effects. Therefore it’s possible that Henrique wasn’t completely one dimensional or the only ugly person in the story. After all, Lilia would have bias pov against the man who lead the Silver Owls to invade his homeland. In reality, Henrique could have been handsome, just a bit beefy and he could had “sympathetic” reasons that Lilia wasn’t aware of. But alas, that’s theory.
As of now, we have to take it at face value that Henrique was a pathetic, nonredeemable man whose hideousness is reflected inside and out. And whose characterization conflicts with TWST’s theme.
Another reason is that it could be because Henrique wasn’t the main antagonist; The Knight of the Dawn was.
After all, he slayed Malleus’ parents and led the Silver Owls to invade. Therefore, the Knight was the main villain of Lilia’s and Henrique was just the villainous force pushing him, like Riddle’s mom in book 1 and the owners of the carnival in the Playful Land event. But in that case the writers should have kept Henrique faceless and off screen just like the other two examples. However, I acknowledge that would be harder as Henrique plays a more hands on role than the other two. In which case, he probably should of had a helmet on. That way it keeps up the theme of actual “villains” being faceless.
Don’t misunderstand, I’m NOT saying justice for the bastard.
As stated, he was a prideful, greedy bastard that manipulated others emotionally to get wanted. He single-handedly started a war using the fear people had for the fae and manipulated the Knight of the Dawn through his devotion to Leah and the king, all to get Malenore’s amber. He had no empathy for those around him and cared not for the people who were hurt because of him. He even bragged about wanting to use Malleus as a stead after they killed his mother. Oh, and there’s the whole stealing resources and invading a foreign land thing.
Henrique was a bastard and a villain through and through. And because of that, he out of place here.
He doesn’t fit the story or pattern of villains shown before. He doesn’t fit TWST’s theme. His character doesn’t belong.
Am I over thinking it? Obviously. But like I said, it just bothers me from a story perspective. Sure I’m misunderstanding something and I’m sure others will point it out. This post is just to sort my thoughts as I’m trying to figure out what bugs me about Henrique’s portrayal. If anyone has similar thoughts, pleas share.
