EXTRA - Chapter 61b - Tracker - The Glitch

I bowed my head and said, “Sir, I’ve got bad news.” The dark lord looked at me with his piercing eyes and said coldly, “What is it?” I said, “I lost track of him.” He frowned and said, “Him who?” I felt a surge of fear and said, “Raphael, sir. Raphael has disappeared.” He raised his eyebrows and said, “Disappeared? How can that be? He can’t just vanish into thin air.” I stammered, “I don’t know, sir. I saw him entering a portal, and then he was gone. I searched everywhere, but I couldn’t find him.” He asked, “Was he alone?” I shook my head and said, “No, sir. There was a light dragon, a fire dragon, and the queen with him. They returned to their kingdom, but there was no sign of Raphael.” He said, “Let me check.” He closed his eyes and tried to establish a vision connection with him, but nothing happened. He was blocked. He opened his eyes and said, “That’s strange. He must have some kind of protection. We’ll have to use other methods.” He gestured for me to follow him to the monitor room. We checked the tracker device that we had implanted in Raphael after we hit him at the first attack, but it showed no signal. I felt a pang of anxiety. I couldn’t lose him. He had my powers. He was my only hope of regaining my full strength. He said, “Look.” He played back the footage of the last time I had seen him. He pointed at the screen and said, “He entered this portal,” then he switched to another angle and said, “And then this one appeared. What a coincidence, don’t you think?” I nodded and said, “Yes, sir. But where is he?” He zoomed in on the screen and saw a giant eagle attacking another one that had just emerged from the portal. The first eagle spared the second one and flew away with it. He said, “Something is wrong here. Maybe that’s him.” I said, “What, the eagle?” He said, “Yes, the eagle. It came out of the portal at the same time that he went in.” I said, “Oh, I see. I didn’t notice that.” He smiled slightly and said, “It’s alright. We all make mistakes. But if I were you, I’d go and check it out myself.” I said, “Yes, sir. Let me make a plan, and I’ll do it.”.

As usual, the dark lord offered his assistance in devising a plan to infiltrate the kingdom of the Whispering Wind. It was a straightforward scheme: observe him from afar and avoid detection. We arrived under the cover of night and stealthily listened to the conversation between the two colossal eagles. Then they flew away to enjoy the night. What a splendid sight! We verified that the dark lord’s information was correct. The one we sought was Raphael, trapped in a form he could not change. I turned to the dark lord and inquired, “What caused this anomaly?” He elucidated the risk of the portals corrupting the shapes of those who traversed them. A glitch, he termed it. He also remarked that Raphael was fortunate to survive and retain that shape. He might have gained more power in the process. I scoffed and said, “I doubt that. He’s just a bigger bullseye now.” But he countered, “You’re mistaken. You can’t even touch him now, not with your current arsenal.” I asked, “What? Can’t I pierce him with an arrow?” He said, “No, he will unpredictably transform into a blaze of fire, and your arrow will pass harmlessly through him. However, we have other weapons at our disposal.” I asked, “Would a gun work?” He said, “Not a conventional one, but perhaps. Do you really intend to kill him?” I said, “No, I have a better idea. Let’s go back, and I’ll explain.”.

But then I had an even more brilliant idea: maybe I could offer him my help instead. We could stage an attack on him, but not by shadow dragons. I could split myself and assault him as a demon, then have my original self appear and rescue him. The demon would use the gun, while I would wield conventional white weapons. The fight had to look convincing and realistic. Raphael would be injured, but saved by me. But there was a snag in this plan. We ran a simulation, and the dark lord played the role of Raphael, but when I tried to split myself, I failed. He said, “What’s the matter? Is something wrong?” I said, “I can’t split.” He said, “Change of plan then. We’ll try this another time.” We aborted the mission and scrapped the old plan. He said, “I’ll think of something else. In the meantime, keep doing what you’re doing.” I said, “Yeah, it’s not like I have anything better to do,” and he departed. Once again, I resumed my routine, but this time I was more troubled by the fact that my powers were more limited than I realized. I wondered if this was part of Michael’s grand design. This was taking too long. Too many years and no results. That guy wasn’t me. I felt weaker every day, even though that wasn’t true. I was still the same. My powers weren’t diminishing, thankfully.

I never considered Leo/Cassandra as a ship before I read your comic and now you've got me squeeing over them so hard I accidentally inhaled a clump of my own hair (it's okay I survived). I joined canon specifically to read it and finished the entire thing in one day. I'm obsessed, I love them, I adore them, and it's all your fault!! Your comic is wonderful!! I love that they accidentally keep matching outfits!! I love that Leo keeps having goo goo eyes and that Casey keeps blushing!! I love Megan (I was so worried when you introduced her that there was going to be a massive jealousy arc and I love that's you didn't do that thank you so much)!! I love the fact that Casey always wanted to ice skate and that Leo is encouraging her!!! I love Leo's insecurities about them and that Casey ended up taking the big step talking about their next kiss!!! I love all of it, and it's wonderful!!! I love them so much now!!!

I'm really glad you like my comic, I try really hard in working on it. And I love the process and the characters themselves.

Today in my brain:

Don't think about how April and the boys become Splinter's caretakers as he gets older. He's always been active, so it's a slower decline than most, but eventually, his body starts catching up with his age in more ways than just appearance.

Don't think about how Donnie and April research and make their home more accessible. Donnie builds mobility aids - a cane, a walker and braces so Splinter can get on and off his favourite couch on his own. A little robot that helps their dad carry things from place to place. April makes sure her first aid certification is always up to date, and learns as much as she can about caring for the elderly. She learns so she can spot symptoms as they appear.

Mikey starts being stricter about what they eat . He makes more pizzas from scratch, finds substitutes for Splinter's favourite snacks - and still keeps the junk food, but as a treat. The others are dragged in because there's no way he's cooking two meals, they all need to be healthier anyways, and they can't let dad feel alone!

Suddenly Leo is labeling everything! He has a system and of course it's colour coded. Leo ensures that Splinter is never left alone for too long. He starts creating shifts for patrols so someone is always nearby. The lair is no longer allowed to remain unclean for extended amounts of time, and they're always stocked with supplies.

Raph starts keeping track of doctor's appointments and schedules. He makes sure Splinter gets up and moves throughout the day, taking walks, even playing games with the others to keep his mind working. He encourages splinter to go to activities and make friends in the hidden city, anything really to keep him from always being cooped up in the lair.

It's not a perfect or easy reality. There are bad days when Splinter is stubborn or April and the boys get frustrated. They're still young, it's not going to happen perfectly, in fact it rarely does. They're becoming caretakers for thier dad, but they still need thier dad. They get into fights when the boys start making choices and changes. When Splinter's memory begins to fade, it upsets everyone and April forces everyone out to the rooftops at night for some fresh air and a much needed conversation.

There are still good moments too! Splinter may need to adjust, but he loves his children more than anything. So what if he can't spar with them anymore, he shows up to the next training session with score cards and ranks thier best moves mid fight. He calls out points and imitates the announcers from those boxing matches Raph loves so much.

He makes sure to spend time with all his kids individually, he leaves them little gifts, when he mixes up thier names they laugh at it more then they're upset about it. They make peace with it.

Chapter 79 - Final Mission #2 - The Glitch

With a determined look on his face, Raphael declared, “I’m going to free the other guardians. If I don’t return within a week, then you should start praying, because something must have gone terribly wrong.”

I felt a surge of worry and asked, “Do you want me to come with you?”

He shook his head and said, “No, Cyrus and Sol are beyond your reach. You don’t know how to shield your powers from the dark lord’s influence on his lands. You wouldn’t stand a chance there.”

Akira spoke up and said, “I can help him with that. I can teach him how to resist the dark lord’s freezing spell. Just give me a couple of days, and he’ll master it.”

But Raphael was adamant. “I’m not willing to waste any time. I’m going alone. You have another task: gather the other guardians and bring them back to the kingdom of Aura Aetherius. That’s where you’ll find me and the ones I’m rescuing.”

Akira looked confused and asked, “So you’re not coming back here?”

He rolled his eyes and said, “Did you not hear what I just said?”

She apologized and said, “Sorry, right, we’ll see you there then.”

Kryo then asked, “Where are Cyrus and Sol? Are they really still alive?”

Raphael explained, “As I already told you, they’re alive but imprisoned. I know their location and how to free them. I just hope they haven’t moved them in the last decade and that they’re still sane. But I have faith in them.”

Then he ignored our further questions and left, vanishing into thin air on his mission.

Akira looked at me with a determined expression. “We have to find the other guardians and bring them back to the temple, right?” she asked. I nodded. “Do you have any better plans?” I countered. She shook her head and sighed. “I wish I could teach you something new, like I used to do when I was your mentor.” She smiled wistfully. “Maybe we can go back to the waterfalls someday.” I chuckled. “That sounds nice. But for now, we have a mission to complete.” I turned to Fyrenthos, who was watching us with amusement. “Are you ready to go?” I asked him. He nodded. “Sure thing, king. But what about Kryo? Is he coming with us?” Kryo, who had been standing quietly in the corner, spoke up. “Of course I am. Just let me inform the council of our situation.” He walked away, leaving us to prepare for the portal. When he returned, we followed him to the Kingdom of the Crashing Thunder.

The gates of the kingdom were guarded by the same soldiers who had welcomed us years ago. They recognized me and saluted. “King Nox, welcome back to our land. King Zain will be delighted to see you again.” I wondered if they had tried to overthrow him while I was gone, but it seemed they had not. They let us in and escorted us to the palace, where we met Zain. After exchanging some polite and boring pleasantries, I got to the point. “We need to see Taranis. Our guardian Kryo here has some important news for him.” Zain nodded and led us to Taranis’s quarters. As soon as Taranis saw Kryo, he exclaimed, “Kryo! What are you doing here?” Kryo smiled and said, “My friend, the world needs our help once more.” Taranis did not hesitate. “If it’s about the shadow dragons, count me in.” Kryo clapped him on the shoulder. “I knew you would say that. Come on, let’s go. We still have to find Erebus.” He turned to me and winked. He had just persuaded the guardian for us in a second. He obviously knew him better than I did. We thanked Zain and asked him where the portal was. He pretended to be confused. “What portal?” he asked innocently. I rolled my eyes. “The one you used to visit my kingdom. Don’t play dumb with me.” He laughed and said, “All right, all right. Follow me.” He and his guards took us to another portal, different from the one Akira had shown us before.

After a long journey, we finally arrived at an outpost on the outskirts of the kingdom. A few guards greeted us and escorted us to the portal that would take us back to the jungle. As we stepped through the shimmering gateway, we felt a surge of heat and humidity. The jungle looked even more lush and wild than I remembered. It had been ten years since I last set foot in this place, and I wondered how much it had changed.

We didn’t have much time to admire the scenery, though. Suddenly, we heard a loud roar and saw a dark shape darting through the trees. It was a Shadow dragon, and he was running for his life. We quickly hid behind some thick bushes and watched as four other dragons chased him. They were Siveth and her brothers, along with a Water dragon I didn’t recognize right away. What a coincidence to run into them at this moment. They were about to kill someone, and we were about to witness it.

I whispered to my companions, “Let’s follow them from a safe distance. I want to see what they’ll do with the Shadow dragon.” I used my shadow element to turn us into shadows and trail behind them. The Shadow dragon looked panicked as he lost sight of his pursuers. He tried to fly away through the canopy, but then Vexus appeared on a branch above him. He lunged at him and bit him hard, poisoning him and preventing him from turning into a shadow. They both fell to the ground with a thud. The Shadow dragon was still alive, but barely. He had no visible wounds, except for the effects of Vexus’s venom.

“Got him!” Vexus shouted triumphantly.

“Good job, Vexus!” Siveth praised him.

“Good catch!” Caine added.

Siveth approached the Shadow dragon and looked at him with contempt. “Let’s bring this guy to Erebus,” she said coldly. It was exactly what she had told me years ago. They still followed the same orders.

We trailed them stealthily all the way to the village, where they had taken the captive Shadow dragon. Then we decided to make our presence known. The Shadow dragon caught a glimpse of us and attempted to utter something, but Siveth and the others turned around in shock. Siveth exclaimed, “Whaaat?” Vexus greeted me casually, “Hi Nox,” and Caine echoed him. Then Caine asked, “Ehm, how long have you been following us?” I said, “Since you were trying to capture that Shadow dragon,” he said, “Oh, does that bring back any memories?” I replied sarcastically, “Yeah, but he was luckier than me, I see.” She bombarded me with questions about everything and everyone who was with me, but we soon reached the village, where Erebus spotted them with the Shadow dragon. Then the other guardians noticed them too, and almost ignoring everyone else, he asked, “What brings you here, Taranis and Kryo?” They explained briefly, “We’re heading back to the temple. Son and Cyrus will be back soon, hopefully.” Erebus gasped in disbelief, “Really? No way. How?” I interjected, “Hi Erebus, I’m back too. I’ll fill you in on everything in a moment.”

I proceeded to tell Erebus the whole story, the plan, and my second self, while the others interrogated the Shadow dragon for information. Akira had a formidable weapon to threaten him with: the light sword. He probably knew what it could do to him. I could hear a lot of heated arguments. When I finished explaining everything to Erebus, we joined the conversation with the Shadow dragon.

After extracting the information from the Shadow dragon, Siveth turned to me and asked, “What do we do with him now?” The captive dragon pleaded, “Please, I don’t know anything else. Let me go. Spare me!” I shook my head sadly. “We can’t let you go. You’ve seen us already. I’m sorry.” He fell silent for a moment, then desperately offered, “I’ll do anything. Please.” Siveth decided to intimidate him further. She said, “He looks so vulnerable. I could kill him in a second.” He wrapped his coils around the Shadow dragon, who screamed, “No, please, I swear. I’ll say nothing.” Erebus intervened and suggested, “Let’s reset his memory and let him go.” The Shadow dragon protested, “Reset my memory? There must be another solution, right?” I said, “Well, I’d accept that if I were you. The other solution would be being executed by the same dragon that’s keeping you in his coils or running without your wings while bleeding with only a few minutes of advantage and then being chased by them again. The choice is yours.” He looked up at the sky, as if saying goodbye to his life, and said, “A memory reset sounds better. I’m sorry. I was just lost.” We proceeded with the memory reset, and Erebus prepared the spell. The Shadow dragon was paralyzed and watched as the spell took effect. He then lost consciousness, and we carried him away down the river after the waterfall and left him there. But before that, I noticed that he had a tracker on him, which I took and used.

Back at Erebus’s place, we convinced him to leave with us. Siveth, on the other hand, was officially living with the Water dragon. Sometimes she visited the kingdom of the Water dragons, but she spent most of her time here with him. The male Water dragon asked me, “Are you aware, dear King, that Hydra is still searching for you?” I replied, “Yeah, we’ve sent some water dragons in search of her, so she’ll hopefully stop.” Then Siveth said to him, “Maybe we could search for her together. What do you think?” He smiled and said, “Sounds good to me.” She was talking to him, not to us. Then she turned to Erebus and said, “I hope you don’t mind if we leave the village for some time again.” Erebus shrugged and said, “Do whatever you want. It looks like I’m leaving too.” Vexus and Caine asked in unison, “So we’re the only ones staying here?” Erebus nodded and said, “You should stay here and keep an eye on the area. If you find any other shadow dragons, bring them to the portal and to me at the kingdom of Aura. I’ll make sure to give you a safe path there.” They agreed, and we left.

We reached the portal, which was again covered by vegetation and dirt. This time, Vexus, Caine, and Siveth did the dirty work for me and Fyrenthos. Then we activated the portal and got to the kingdom of Aura Aetherius.

Rafal and some Angel Mythology Connections!

*takes a deep breath* Prepare for stupidity.

So I low-key have these ancient Woods/headcanons, and I will elaborate on each. Today I will focus one that’s been on my mind for months.

(I posted links to some sources/further reading if you are interested.)

First off, I wonder if maybe Rafal was a sort of angel or the SGE equivalent of it? Obviously not the exact one found in Abrahamic religions, but a similar type of being. I do have a feeling that perhaps the twins' souls are actually reincarnated from a past time and reflect who they used to be. I will mention Rhian and his dragon fire another day, as well as twins and a clanlike structure.

I remember James Hook felt a guiding/more welcoming presence with Rafal’s magic far more than Rhian’s, who was wild and had a mind of its own.

For now, I will parallel Rafal and Raphael, the archangel.

Raphael is mentioned Scripturally in Tobit which is not found in most Christian bibles. I think Raphael has an Islamic counterpart under a different name, as well. (Israfel I think) In any case, "Rafal" is actually a Polish variant of Raphael.

(To get this straight, Rafal's energy is not nearly as positive as the original angel's and I think Rafal would be some kind of more violent/fighter angel, lol.)

Rafal accompanies a traveler albeit in not a benevolent way as the angel did with Tobias.

So basically, Rafal kinda encourages James to save Kyma in that one battle scene? Raphael matchmaked Tobias with Sarah after the demons afflicting her previous husband were gone. Rafal's magic seems to be somewhat healing and he does have a lot of knowledge. The archangel knew how to heal physically and spiritually, which was why he made Tobias catch a big fish. (iirc)

And lastly, Rafal's more comforting magic! At least later on in the plot of the prequels.

I am not sure if I will add angel Rafal in my ancient Woods AU (which I may start outlining now as I'm not publishing ATOTE atm)

It wasn't so much that Raph had some interest in machines or any of the other science gunk Donnie went on about. Half of what he talked about sort of went in one ear and out the other. But Raphael did kind of find listening to them talk about their latest project to be fun because well? Raph just liked how excited Donnie got when he was clearly estactic. How their eyes grew wide and filled with that mad scientist glimmer Raphael started to see them as. How the tone of thoer voice broke through the usual monotone way of speech.

It was cute.

Not so much when they sang their own praises, though.

Raphael had turned hus attention towards Chompy, his beloved little pet space turtle. Whi he may treat a bit more than just a pet. Gently petting them over their head. As Raphael simply looks up he jad stopped listening some time ago and they hadn't noticed at all.

"Where is ya off switch?" Raphael pipes in with suddenly watching as he gains thier attetion. "I swear you could power 'his whole place woth how much ua yap ya beak over ya self." He's teasing shown how he smiles at them feeling satisfied in tje moment as he looks back to Chompy.

"Yanno, the fastest way to shut me up is to kiss me."

Raphael feels a faint rush of heat hit his face at the mention peering back up at them. And thier Damm smug smile, clearly baiting him. But unlike thoer own Raphael this Raphael wasn't one to tempt and mess around with. Playing with fire was a good term to keep in mind when it came to him. "Yeah?" He smirks as he reaches up and grabs thier shoulder tugging them down so thier beaks crash into each other. Even if the start was rough. Raphael eased into the kiss and held it for as long as he could before finally parting ways.

"So how much quite dose 'hay buy me?" Leaning in a little eyeing thier beak with clear intent now. "Or should I bite ya tounge next?"

Smirk held as he waited for an answer, letting g Chompy move to wonder away not that Raphael's attention was shifted the same with his mood. He slightly turns in the chair he been resting in and sets his hands on Donatello's hips before pulling forward to guide them to sit, encouraging them to take his lap as their seat.

"From how much you be goin' off I think ya could use a distraction don' ya?" Raphael happily suggests to them "Sides I can think of at least three good other uses for that pretty mouth of yours. Ya like figuerin' things out ya? So wanna knkw what those three things are? Or is mister smart guy already aware?" He muses a little taking hold of thier jaw "Cause one is this." Lowering his voice to no more this a whisper before he captures thier mouths slightly flicking his tounge against thier beak. Both ti ask them to open thier mouth and give them the answer at least to use one.
