Out of order, but I want to give focus on this part

Walt Disney very much wanted to make Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. He wanted to make a fully animated movie, he was very passionate about this.

Even when told that this would be a big mistake and cost him dearly. Like I remembered hearing he put up his own home as collateral, Disney put all financial resources for this movie.

He was very determined and passionate for this movie, or this dream he wanted.

And he proved them all wrong when this animated movie became a big hit and success. That people had come to watch a beautifully crafted all animated movie of a children's fairytale.

Lister is said to be scared of tarantulas (Terrorform) so in my head, I’m thinking he may be a little scared of all spiders big and small.

Even if not, I just like to imagine that before the radiation leak, Rimmer had to get rid of spiders in the bunk room cus Lister was scared of them. After the radiation leak, the spiders either died out or mutated so Lister had to face them since Rimmer couldn’t anymore. I guess Kryten would take over that role. But I think my original idea was cute and funny.

Smegtober Day 9: Music

A/N: This is set during the Dave era, but not during any particular episode.

It was a straightforward enough scouting mission. Kryten had spotted the derelict hidden amongst a cluster of small, rocky planetoids. It looked to be intact, so they had decided to board and see what they could find. Kryten was in search of non-perishables and cleaning supplies, Cat was on the hunt for any interesting fabrics, and Lister was looking around for any videos or magazines. There were only so many times a guy could watch The Surfboarding Killer Bikini Vampire Girls 3: Three Hot Three Handle without cracking up.

Rimmer had mostly come along just for the journey. Armed with a bazookoid, he wandered alone aimlessly through the ship’s corridors. There wasn’t much. Almost every room he found was completely empty and devoid of life. It seemed someone else had gotten to this particular wreckage before them. Feeling bored, he glances through a doorway as he passes by. What he sees makes him stop, eyes wide.

A piano. A proper grand piano. Rimmer’s eyes narrow, his hand moving to the bazookoid by his hip as he slowly approaches it. What on Io was a piano doing here, on a derelict vessel in the middle of deep space?

Rimmer stops in front of it. A fine layer of dust rests undisturbed across the surface of the fall board and the top board. Without really thinking, Rimmer lifts the fall board, exposing the keys. He places a single tentative finger on the centre C and presses down.

The note reverberates through the room, making Rimmer's hologrammatic heart skip. Nothing else happens. He's not quite sure what else he expected.

Slowly, he plays a few more notes. Nothing too complicated, just a simple melody he remembers from the lessons he received as a child. Some of the tension starts to bleed from his body as he plays.

“I never knew you could play piano.”

Rimmer starts, his finger slipping and striking the wrong key. His brow furrows, his body coiling like a spring once more. He doesn't turn around. “I can't,” he responds stiffly.

“Sounds like you can.” Lister approaches until he's stood by Rimmer's side. He glances down at the piano, then up at Rimmer, looking amused, “how come you never mentioned it?”

“I didn't think it was worth mentioning.”

Lister stays quiet.

Rimmer sighs. “My parents made me take lessons when I was a child. I liked it, but they made me stop because no matter how hard I tried I couldn’t pick up musical notation.” Rimmer closes the fall board firmly back down. “You know my parents. Playing by ear wasn't good enough.”

Lister hums empathetically, looking down at the piano again.

After a moment of tense silence, he speaks up, “I always wanted to try learn how to play one of these, you know.” He runs a hand over the top of the fall board, making tracks in the dust, “reckon we could bring this back with us?”

Rimmer scoffs, “don’t be absurd. The last thing we need is another instrument on board. If I wanted to listen to a cacophonic attempt at musical prowess, I’d let you play your guitar in our sleeping quarters.”

The insult is only half-hearted, and rolls easily over Lister. “Teach me how to play, then.”

Rimmer huffs impatiently, “Lister, I don’t know how to play. Not properly.”

Lister shrugs, “who cares? And anyway, you’re technically the best piano player in the universe, since all the others are gone.”

“How comforting,” Rimmer says dryly.

Lister grins. “So, shall I get Kryten?”

Rimmer rolls his eyes. “If it means that much to you.”

“Brutal.” Lister leaves to find Kryten and presumably make a plan for how they are going to transport a thousand pound grand piano.

Finding himself alone once more, Rimmer glances down at the piano. He eyes the areas where Lister disturbed the dust, the shiny panelling peeking through. He smiles to himself.
