I’ve put my Hallmark AU up on AO3! It’s just the posts I made here all in one place, so not really a fic, more like the first draft of one, but that’s probably all it’s ever going to be and it’s the closest thing I have a to a Christmas fic.

Hallmark Christmas Movie AU. Twenty-something prince Wilhelm, crumbling under the weight of royal duties, family pressure and various scandals, is invited to spend a few days before Christmas with his former school counsellor and surrogate grandfather figure Boris, who now lives with his husband Göran in a small town called Bjärstad. Their happy domesticity, so different from the cold palace walls, makes Wille wonder if he should rethink his life, a feeling that grows even stronger when he meets a curly-haired angel singing carols in the town square.

i take my job as an armchair tumblr connoiseur of trobed content way too seriously so here's my giant masterlist of all my favorite trobed fanfics. i didn't cross check this with any previous lists so there may be some overlap but this one is more extensive and will include some older fics. also if it's not listed here that doesn't mean i don't love it, these are just the ones i specifically remembered to write about. please send the authors some love if you have the time to check their works out!

also i did go through all 87 pages of content on the troy barnes/abed nadir tag in order to find some of these. no, i haven't read them all, but i have read most of them.

23. What’s the story idea you’ve had in your head for the longest?

oooh, that would be my season 1 rewrite friends to lovers 101. that was the first trobed fic i ever started writing, and even though it's still nowhere near done, i do hope it comes together someday because it has a special place in my heart <3 here's a little bit:

But when he looks up from digging his notebook and textbook out of his backpack he’s surprised to find her sitting in Pierce’s seat, turned towards him with her ankles crossed and hands folded primly in her lap. She looks nervous, and his own stomach churns uneasily as he sits up. He raises a questioning eyebrow at her anyway.

“I want you to know,” she says after drawing in a deep breath, looking him in the eyes with a polite sort of determination, “That I support you guys.”

Okay, he doesn’t love where this is going. He bites his lip and plays dumb.

“You support who?” He asks her, hoping that he sounds less scared than he feels, “And… about what?”

She furrows her eyebrows a little in confusion, but keeps going.

“You know…” She shoots him a sort of knowing look, like she’s expecting him to pick up what she’s putting down, but he’s very set on not doing that.

“You and Abed,” she finally sighs. “I support you guys being…” she scoots closer to the edge of her chair and lowers her voice a bit, “...Together.”

Even though he was half-anticipating it, his stomach drops.

“I won’t lie, I was a little upset at first,” she says lightly. “I don’t know if you’d noticed, but I’ve sort of had… feelings… for you, since high school…”

Her voice grows muted as his brain struggles to form a reaction—any reaction. Her words register in the back of his mind, but they come second to his sweaty palms and racing heartbeat.

“...But as your friend, and Abed’s, I think it’s nice that you’re happy together. And also, well… I don’t want to jinx myself, but I think there might be something between me and Jeff. We spent a lot of time last night getting ready for today’s debate and there was this tension—”

“Okay, Annie,” he sits up straight and cuts her off, putting his hands out in what he hopes is a placating gesture. “That’s nice, but Abed and I aren’t together. He doesn’t— wait, Jeff?” He interrupts his defense when his brain finally processes those last few words. “Annie, gross. He’s like, old.”

Her face falls slightly, like she’s somehow just realizing this, and Troy shakes his head to himself before resuming, keeping as quiet as possible.

“Anyway. Abed and I aren’t together,” he repeats. “So there’s nothing for you to support, really.”

Annie tilts her head. “But… you bailed on Randi to sit with him at A Night Under the Stars,” she says. “You gave him your jacket.”

“How do you know I bailed on her?” Troy asks, his voice inadvertently pitching up the more nervous he gets. “What if she bailed on me?”

Annie rolls her eyes. “Like a girl would bail on you.”

Troy huffs out a sigh. The burden of being a handsome, charismatic football star rears its stupid head once again.

“We’re not together,” he says for the third time now, and he doesn’t know why his hands are feeling so clammy; he’s not even lying. “So just don’t worry about it, okay? And definitely don’t mention this to Abed. At all. Ever.”

Do you have a favourite headcanon that you haven't had a chance to work into a fic?

Honestly I don’t have a ton of troy and abed headcanons that other people didn’t come up with already lol. I think a lot about different movies they would have watched together and re-enacted, but that’s kind of it.

One random one I love is weird, but a friend of mine is a teacher and would tell me about an adorable kid named Troy in her class who would bring his adorable baby brother Romeo on screen (when they were still doing Zoom school), and now I’m like fully enamored with the thought of Troy having a baby brother (maybe when his dad gets remarried?) I just feel like a college-aged Troy would be the sweetest older brother/babysitter and he and Abed babysitting together would just be 🥺🥰

ooo that's such a good one! in canon, i see their relationship as platonic/sibling-like (especially in later seasons). howeverrr, there are SUCH good fics out there where their dynamic is just slightly different, so i can def see it going in another direction there, you know? yeah i just really like the idea of them being friends who can explore certain stuff together (usually in character, cuz i love that little trope of theirs) because they're feel so safe and comfortable. they would def be so soft and careful with the other, each in their own way 🥺 plus they are so creative and fun together!!

5 and 26 for the fic writing asks!

5: I think I’m most proud of Intro to Emotional Regulation because it was my first fic and also the most popular by far. And it sparked a lot of discussions and friendships, and I’m able to go back and read it without cringing too much :)

26: I have this dream of writing a Buffy the Vampire Slayer AU for Community, but every time I start to try to plan it out I get really overwhelmed with all the details and just kind of tell myself I’ll come back to it. So...we’ll see if that ever goes anywhere...

I love your Nadir-Barnes series so much! I wanted to ask if you have a timeline for it? Also, what is Regional Nightmare about? All the movies and shows in the series sound wonderful and so true to Abed's character so I'm really curious about this one! Thank you 💖

Ahh, thank you! I love answering fic questions.

So, in terms of timeline... I kept it fuzzy on purpose. The first fic takes place Feb-Aug 2017, but after that, the timeline is kind of reliant on the adoption process and the film-making process, and those are two things I know are complicated and time consuming but ultimately don’t know a lot of details about, so I was intentionally vague. Behind the Camera is, roughly, 7-8 years after Intro to Parenting, and I think I alluded to Home Video coming out vaguely 20 years post Community canon but I didn’t map that out on the other fics in the series too much. This is going to sound kind of funny, but I get antsy writing fics that go too far in the future. I feel weird about it. Like, realistically, Abed’s career would be dramatically affected by COVID, and the age timeline I have in my head for his kids in Behind the Camera probably doesn’t correlate to that. I really like including real-world references and it helps me solidify the fic for myself, and in the future I don’t feel like I can do that as often because there are big things I wouldn’t be able to predict, you know?

And Regional Nightmare is a movie about a Glee Club filmed entirely in the style of A Star is Born, Fame, or Raise Your Voice, very inspirational and whatnot, that is slowly revealed to be a horror film over the course of the runtime. Not one of my better titles, tbh, but the idea amused me.

He never really noticed his surroundings when he and Felice first got here, too anxious at the prospect of seeing Simon again to process much of anything else, and he doesn’t fully take them in now either as they walk down to the lake. Water, sky, trees, rocks, reeds. What of it? Simon is holding his hand. Simon kissed him and told him he’d missed him. Simon keeps turning his head to look at him and smile, like he, too, can hardly believe this is really happening.

2022 has definitely been a good year for me, if not challenging, especially after the stressfulness of 2021 and for that i am beyond grateful. i have admittedly not been on here so much this past year, but all the time i have spent scrolling through my dash has been always entertaining and delightful, and i owe it all to you!

currently reading: The Toss of a Lemon by Padma Viswanathan. I’ve probably been reading it for half a year because the fanfics my fellow The English fans write are all novel length (and I’m STILL not caught up with @combat-librarian’s latest).

current obsession:  Too overwhelmed to be obsessed. June has been a massive stress fest of trying not to forget anything school (I swear, they had some special event every other day), work, or baseball-related, while effusively cursing myself for not managing to finish anything writing-wise, even though I’ve had multiple half-baked chapters in limbo ever since finishing Acikskatakusiir. But now school is finally over, I’m off work for this holiday week, and I’m getting the hang of juggling multiple teams, so hopefully I’ll be able to edit a decent chapter or two out of the 12K words written. Or not, and they’ll all stay in WIP Land for another month, and maybe another two after that, all the way until Fall and I get my evenings and brain back.
