You know what is fun? Baby Ghost Jason. You know what could be even more fun? Ghosts are Dragons. 

Jason? Aware of none of this. 

He was on comms, y’know listening and rolling his eyes at Dickwing, who used his real name, really Dick, he mocks. It’s just a stakeout, nothing new there, honestly boring when he could be blowing something up instead. It should have just been a stakeout. 

Yet there’s something suddenly there, something behind him. Something that causes his hair to stand on end and his comms to spark into static like some sort of horror movie. Something, something with clawed hands with corpse-pale skin tipped in black, stained or dead or something else, tilting his head up and up and up as he’s frozen. 

“A child, out here? Alone?” a voice crackles, hisses, hums, and purrs, somehow all at once, unnatural in its tone. He can’t move, he needs to move, he has to move, but it’s like the space around him has gone cold and dead, like he’s stuck in the Pits once more as claws hold his head and his vision blurs. “Sleep, child. Rest- we’ll be home soon.”

Here’s the thing:

I want Predathos to get out.

Not because I hate the gods or want to see them killed or driven off (in fact, I find the 'the gods are tyrants' arguments to be laughably incorrect and deeply hope c3 ends with the pantheon still present) but because ending the campaign without facing Predathos would be a huge anticlimax. If Bells Hells simply kill Ludinus and go back home, it will feel like killing the minion but never actually getting to the big bad. What if c1 had ended with killing the Briarwoods but never getting around to Vecna. What if the m9 had actually managed to kill Lucien with their trap in Aeor before he made it into the Astral Sea to set off his plan. We wouldn’t have gotten to see the nature of the somnovem, the horrific flesh city or the peace of putting it to rest, the wild creativity that was the final battle of imagination. If c3 ends without showing us what the fuck Predathos actually is I will go lie facedown on the floor for a week wondering what we missed out on.

Now, this doesn't mean I want the hells to purposefully let the beast out of its cage. I would prefer the campaign not end with the heroes finalizing the villain's plan and setting off calamity 2.0, thank you very much. But if Ludinus still has an ace up his sleeve that makes Predathos' release all but inevitable (which I honestly expect)? Maybe even if there’s a party split and one or a couple of the hells take the decision into their own hands (looking at you, Ashton)?

I'd love that shit. Show us what Predathos truly is. Let it eat Ludinus maybe. Give us a glimpse of the true end if it’s let loose on Exandria. Have there be a horrific realization of oh, this is what the Vanguard was arguing in favor of. And then kill it.

Made my very own tiny dungeon meshi dragon plush, that’s based on the version that only appears in the very last chapter for five pages and then is never seen again. I think it turned out pretty well.

I used this pattern to make it with some minor tweaks to the body, tails and legs and then just made some tiny cones for the horns at the end. If anyone would be intersted I might post the alterations and where to apply them but go check out the original pattern! I stuffed it both with acylic stuffing but also some plastic pellets for a bit of extra weight. The eyes are done with french knots.

Going to be adding manga spoilers below the read more with pictures of what I tried to get it to look like.

Pondering Ghosts are Dragons, and just rotating each design in my head I have for them. That is the ghosts we see in the show more than just once or twice lol. Just pondering each of them and potential types and descriptions and how the people of Amity see them, as they’re used to the dragons around, vs say someone from Outside, crossover or no, who are Not used to the maybe slightly eldritch undeath interdimensional dragons around everywhere. 

That is not normal for other people. 

To the Amity Parkers? Boxy is simply a chonky dragon with small boxy wings and covered in blue scales. To people just coming into the city, it’s like seeing a giant komodo dragon when you’re just walking home- not something you exactly want to see and something that is dangerous. 

Kitty’s and Johnny’s weekly relationship tussle? Par for the course really. But to visitors? Two giant wyverns tearing into each other, shimmering greens that could be scales, could be tendrils, and shadows lengthening and thrashing like a living beast all its own. 

And this is just the small dragonlings, not even beginning with larger ones like Pandora and Fright Knight, chill as they may be. 

Outsiders don’t understand that they’re more than just animals. Amity is used to this, but people who have no clue what’s going on? They don’t.

They call the police, the heroes, the government, for help, for answers. And that? That the GIW can use.

My take on Baxia and Huaisang's unnamed saber, inspired by CQL's designs

For Rayla, Runaan, and Soren, a job is a sacred calling. It is something (or was something, in Runaan's case) something you strive towards upholding even when it goes against your sense of self or personal desires ("part of me wishes I hadn't seen you," "all of us pledged a part of ourselves," "to carry out my dark work") , and it ripples down and effects all that you are. For Soren and Runaan, there seems to be less separation between job as a part of who they are vs all that they are; Soren in particular scaffolds his identity almost entirely, therefore, on who he is/has become in relation to Ezran as an internalized feedback loop ("I can't do that, I'm sworn to King Ezran" / "I am a crownguard, and he is the true king!"). Rayla, meanwhile, has a hard cognitive dissonance of your job (i.e. the actions you take while operating under parameters) being entirely separate from who you are ("assassins aren't evil, they're doing a job" which also loops around to not holding Runaan's against her against him when he was operating as an assassin) when they align with that specific calling, except when it comes to her being bad at it, which does get internalized as something that is fundamental to her as a person ("I'm not good enough and I never will be") rather than a bad fit for that particular occupation. All of their jobs, notably, also centre around fitting into a collective whole (assassins, crownguards) that serve — conceptually in their own minds — as protectors of Something Bigger Than Themselves (their monarchs/kingdom, their people, etc): "[Soren] told [Corvus] that the young king was not only Katolis’ hope, but all of Xadia’s" / "for all of Xadia" / "I had convinced myself I was a peacemaker".

For Viren, his job is intrinsically tied to his search for self-esteem and self-importance. Given that Viren wants to find external sources to prop up his internal sense of self ("I thought you were going to be something special, something important"), he pursues jobs/actions that will make him important, largely in proximity to power ("the Dragon King and Queen kept this closest to where they slept; it must be important"). It is unsurprising therefore that being High Mage was always going to make him at least a little deranged, being that close to power ("it is an honour to serve him") while still be constantly reminded that you matter less than the person at the very top, hence his desire to eventually be king when his loop of validation with Harrow is irreparably broken. Viren sees his job as high mage (and as king) as being a protector, but in a less genuine way than the prior 3 discussed above do: this may be what he tells himself, but there's still prickles of self-awareness, especially when he coins Kpp'Ar: "Without dark magic, you're just a frail old man. You're no one. I am the High Mage of Katolis. I have power, purpose—" (dying for Harrow would've given him purpose, proved that he'd mattered). His job doesn't justify his actions so much as give him wider reach in which to make 'uniquely good decisions for the greater good of everybody himself', and therefore makes himself somebody.

For Callum, your job is a restriction and/or entirely separate from who you are and what you/he wants. He finds his title as high mage stuffy, he's decently inconsistent in the post, it's something he does find some pride (5x07) in, but that's still mostly tied to being a primal mage at all ("I'm the first human to do primal magic") which is tied to his desire for agency and to have his agency recognized (power, external) > internalized pursuit of self worth the way it might've been in earlier seasons (s1, maybe s2). We see him emotionally toss the job away with very little fanfare (consistently leaving the castle without hesitation; trying to leave the meeting; being distracted at the meeting to the point of barely paying attention) even before he does so directly. While this could be a fit of "right guy wrong occupation," Callum is someone pretty defined by 1) not letting anyone put him in a box (so much of s2) and 2) not listening, by proxy, to anyone else around him. He consistently goes against people's expressed wishes — right or wrong — and only takes up Viren's staff (something passed down between high mages) after he's abandoned the job. Callum is a wild card who will not let anything restrain him, taking only mage as an identifier and leaving most other things (except "Ezran's brother" and "Rayla's partner") entirely out to dry if it gets in his way.

exactly like that! though she's not the only one...

edit: might need to add some additional dialogue to this to make it more clear, but a clarification in the interim; he knows about his own footprints. he's just surprised to see something similar already there when he knows he's only just landed. he lifts his own shoe to confirm that they're not identical (and also to reveal this to the viewer). seems his stoicism beat off the clarity in this one, sorry 😭
