I can’t even with Aloy’s habit of talking aloud for the sake of the player being canonized through gildun’s delightful dialogue— but it also just makes a TON of sense lmao

I can totally imagine how she’d develop that habit growing up in the wilds. Like we already see her doing it when she’s really little so I just think that she never grew out of that urge to just say everything out loud and narrate whatever she’s doing (probably rost would never say shit so she’d always be the one who just talks her head off all day even if he’s not listening to her)

I have a question for people who fervently argue that Arya has no potential for politics but think that Sansa will be one of the main political characters, and I'm asking this seriously.

If Arya learning multiple languages, how to tell + detect lies, how to rule her face so she doesn't reveal her emotions, being able to blend into different situations, thinking quick on her feet, knowing the importance of gathering information, being someone who makes friends wherever she goes, convincing a FM to help free Northern prisoners and participating in a coup, etc. don't make Arya capable of participating in politics...what exactly is it that you think Sansa will be doing as a political figure?

I think one of the main things that could actually help the latest arcs be intresting is to have multiple antagonists and villains again

Arc 1: Tigerstar, Darkstripe, Brokenstar, Scourge, Longtail, Dustpelt, Leopardstar, Bluestar (after her breakdown), Blackfoot

Arc 2: Tigerstar (again), Stone Teller + Sharp Tooth, Mudclaw, Hawkfrost

Arc 3: Dark Forest residents (Tigerstar, Hawkfrost) Onestar, Sol, Berrynose, Breezepelt, Ashfur

Arc 4: Dark Forest residents (Tigerstar, Hawkfrost, Mapleshade, Darkstripe, Antpelt, etc) Breezepelt, Sol

Then the new arcs tend to only have one antagonist of note? For some reason?? And that’s supposed to carry SIX books??

Arc 5: Darktail (The Kin henchmen), Sleekwhisker, Juniperclaw (I guess?)

Arc 6: Ashfur, Rootspring’s bullies who disappear, Berrynose, Dark Forest residents (only at the end)

Arc 7: Curlfeather (dies book one), Splashtail (has forgettable henchmen), Berryheart

The sheer lack of antagonists and villains who stick around and actually do stuff has shrunk DRASTICALLY

I firmly believe this is a key part of why warrior cats is so boring lately, the conflict is too slow because they have to stretch one notable villain across six books or conflict is instantly resolved (which can take the form of disappearing or fixed in no time within the story)

(Or they have insanely stiff manufactured antagonists that don’t really make sense, such as Sparkpelt and Squirrelfight, who aren’t antagonists to me, because don’t really do anything to earn that title besides have the authors use them to be mean for unexplained reasons in a way that contradicts all previous canon)

I decided Calcinidae Bay needed a nice romantic restaurant for Valentine's Day, and so I present La Rose de la Rivière, or "Rose of the River". It's modern French fine dining. Bookings are essential.

The spacious indoor dining room, for parties of varying sizes (and significance).

The kitchen, notable for its windows which invite guests to observe the well-oiled machine of its dinner service, a little like the real-world French Laundry.

After dining, guests may move upstairs to Cupid's Bar and pair a digestif with some delightful conversation in one of its many intimate nooks.

And of course, since the Rose is famous for its views of the giant slab of floodfill blue river, there is ample outdoor seating when the weather is amenable.

Since this is Calcinidae Bay, this is, naturally, a shell challenge, with a little surprise -

I had fun figuring how to use it; the tip of the arrow is a very exclusive little windowed seating area in the bar, and the "tail" makes up the restaurant's sign.

Saw your Blake and Astarion comparison post. Thought it was excellently done. Wanted to add another example.

There's lots of similar kinds of arcs like Blake's in more super low fantasy/slice of life series, and they're handled far better than Blake's was. One of my favorite examples is in the anime Romantic Killer. (Spoilers and TW for stalking and assault discussions).

One of the love interests, Tsukasa, suffered from abuse, stalking, and even assault from someone older than him, similar to Blake. He was often blamed for his abuse by his father, despite the stalker still being at large. The trauma of that situation caused him to shut himself off, hide himself away when in public by wearing hats (similar to Blake with her bow), and having to move around in order to avoid his stalker. Anzu, our protagonist, offers him support after hearing his story (even going as far as to say "if this is too much let me know, but I'm going to give you a hug now, okay?"). With her support, along with their other friends, he's able to stand up for himself and eventually the stalker is sent to jail (until other stuff happens but that isn't important to the point I'm talking about).

Tsukasa's arc ends with him reclaiming his life, standing up for himself, and, most importantly, him realizing and understanding that his abuse and traumatic circumstances do not mean he isn't worthy of love and care. Romantic or platonic. He's deserving of a peaceful happy life with those he cares about. And his abuse and assault and history of "running away" doesn't mean he isn't worthy of that. And that's also what allows him to feel comfortable in potentially pursuing a romance with Anzu. Tsukasa chooses to stay because loves and cares for his close circle, feels loved and cared for in return, and feels he's worthy of their love and care.

And this is from a romantic-comedy anime where the main plot is that an annoying potato fairy trying to get the anti-romance gamer girl a life partner.

When it comes to Blake's arc, I don't get that same sentiment. It doesn't feel like she feels she deserves to be cared about. It's almost like she's choosing to stay out of guilt and obligation rather than because she actually cares and feels cared for in return.

Which is incredibly frustrating because all the pieces for a well handled arc for Blake is right there in the text. But it just wasn't done well at all.

For such an arc to be in a romcom really hammers home that it doesn't matter the genre or world, only the execution. And it's pretty clear that the only type of execution going on in RWBY is character assassination >:/

car people rule because they're like. completely genuinely and 100% without sarcasm they will say this is my favorite car in the world. it's the lamborgini cuntach LP5000 it's from the 80s and it goes faster than the speed of light, it has a V50 with 25 inline cylinders because Paolo insisted that it have enough torque to escape the pull of Jupiter's gravity, it's made of space shuttle tiles and it costs $80,000,000,000 to drive 15 meters from your detached garage to your attached garage.

and then they'll turn around and be like. this is the Koral. it was made in yugoslavia during the 80s and it's widely considered to be the worst car on earth. this includes automobiles created prior to the invention of the combustion engine and also that thing fred flintstone drives. it's made of an old jerrycan with cardboard interior panels and it loves exploding so so much. it's my favorite car in the world.

ALSO, like with just about everything about wyll in the full release version i m o, the way his interactions with mizora throughout the game were just sorta ported over without much tweaking to make them fit in with the new version of his character is so weird and clunky and just.... uncomfortable

the fact that mizora was mortal in the original version of the story was kind of an extremely important detail that not only wyll's entire character quest but also their entire relationship and history hinged on. the ea version of mizora was half-human, not a full devil, and according to dnd rules as i understand them, that means she would've had a regular human lifespan. (eta: yes, she's still called a cambion in the full version, but my issue is at some point between ea and full release, all the differences between cambions and devils apparently just up & vanished) so if ea mizora and ea wyll, who were around the same age, met when wyll was 17, that means they met when mizora was also somewhere in the range of her mid/late teens

there's obviously still an unhealthy power imbalance there with her being his patron and all, but there's a pretty big difference between a teenage boy being manipulated by an equally as young teenage girl into signing a pact vs a teenage boy being manipulated by a fully immortal & presumably-already-grown-at-the-time woman into signing himself into her service

and the flirty/sexual dialogue being left in makes this 100x worse. originally, mizora and wyll were explicitly in a romantic relationship that had just ended right before the game started (like literally right before. as in he told you that the nautiloid snatched them up WHILE he was in the middle of giving her his breakup speech (lmao)), but there is literally ZERO reason for the full release version of their relationship to have such a weirdly charged undertone to it??

you can't just take the dynamic of "toxic high school sweethearts who just had an insanely messy breakup 3 days ago after dating for 5+ years" and slap it onto "grownass woman who manipulated a teenage boy into signing his life away to her 5 years ago" with zero acknowledgement of the fact that that changes literally everything??

like sorry, this isn't just petty exes bickering anymore. this is now reading as nonstop sexual harassment, and to someone without the context of this happening due to a messyass rewrite (or even with it tbh), it's weird as fuck that some characters get entire arcs dedicated to unpacking the trauma that comes from being trapped in this exact dynamic, but with wyll, neither he nor the player ever get a chance to try to stop it or even really acknowledge the fact that it's happening in any significant way

the sloppiness of this whole rewrite is actually insane to me
