I can't write an alternative ending to the actual ending since that would be SPOILERS but here's an alternate ending to chapter one- I wrote this in like 15 minutes and it's not beta read but I had fun HFLKHFSKLH

It was a… Portal? At least it looked like one. Just at the bottom of the hill, there was a purplish blue, swirling vortex floating in the air. The inside of it resembled a tunnel, but it was unclear where it could even lead to. Several specks that reminded him of stars were swirling around at the entrance. But when he tried to look inside it, it was only filled with bright, blinding light. He circled around the portal, keeping some distance just in case. The other side didn’t make it any clearer where it led to, nor where it had even come from. Sonic huffed and reached to his quills, pulling out his communication device and calling Tails. “What is it? Did Shadow cancel?” Tails asked as he picked up. “Nope! I’m still on my way. I just came across this weird portal thingy, and I think ya should come and check it out,” Sonic explained. “A portal? Where?” Tails replied, sounding surprised. “You know that park close to the city?” Sonic asked, imagining Tails nodding despite not seeing him. “It’s right next to that big hill. Should I step inside?” “NO!” Tails screamed. “Sonic, whatever you do, do NOT touch it! Wormholes are impossible to escape from!” Sonic rolled his eyes. “Alright, alright, I won’t. But we gotta do something about this, I think Egghead’s planning something!” “Definitely, seems pretty serious. I’ll go get Amy and we’ll be on our way,” Tails agreed. Sonic grinned. “I’ll be waiting right here for you guys!” “Don’t you have that date with Shadow?” Tails asked with a hint of both teasing and annoyance in his tone. “Hey, I can’t just leave this big old wormhole here!” “Yes, you can, Amy and I can handle it! Just go on that date, Sonic. Shadow’s not gonna be happy if you just leave him waiting. You know how he is.” “Well, true. But we’ll both come help if it starts getting too serious,” Sonic huffed. “Good luck, buddy!” “You too,” Tails said before hanging up. Sonic glanced at the portal one more time, before dashing away. He ran through the park, finally spotting Shadow in the distance. He sat on a picnic blanket with his arms crossed and gave Sonic an angry glare when he got closer. “I told you not to be late,” he grunted. “I’m not that late, am I?” Sonic shrugged. “You are seven minutes late. That’s a lot for someone who insists they’re the fastest thing alive.” “Whoops,” Sonic chuckled and sat down on the blanket. “I got distracted by a portal. Probably Eggman’s plan or something.” Shadow narrowed his eyes. “The Doctor is here?” “Didn’t see him. But Amy and Tails are gonna handle it,” Sonic hummed as he grabbed a sandwich from Shadow’s picnic basket. “They’ll call us if they need backup.” Shadow nodded, picking up a sandwich for himself as well. “Knowing you, I’m surprised you didn’t stick your nose inside the portal,” Shadow said. O: How do you begin a story—with the plot, or the characters?

(I answered this previously so I'm just copypasting my answer here gdkhlgsdhg) Well, in case of fanfiction, the characters are already there- But even with original characters, I always start with the story, or at least the premise. The characters do affect the story and vice versa, but I personally feel like it's easier to first build the world, then the story, and then put the characters in their roles! Especially if it's an AU, such as Prophecy of Chaos or Chivalrous Devotion.

Q: How do you feel about collaborations?

I LOVE collabs!! I wanna do more of them :3 I like collabs where someone else illustrates my writing. I do also like bigger collabs, like making AUs together. Prophecy of Chaos is a collaboration between me and @tillytilli after all! But I feel like I can only do big collabs like that with close friends, since those are a lot of work and I'm VERY timid XD

S: Any fandom tropes you can't resist?

Hurt/comfort is always so good, I can never get enough. And angst. I also love historical AUs and medieval fantasy AUs. Also anything to do with monsters is so good. Teehee.

Only Friends Character Rankings - Ep 6

Well this was an episode, wasn't it? Finally the mess really begins and now the mettle of every single person who says that what they were looking forward to was messiness is about to be tested. Because every single one of these characters is gonna bring the mess, even the one we like best. Maybe especially the one we like best. Here comes the point when they really start to tear strips off each other. Can we handle it?

For myself, I can't definitively answer that (temptation compels me to say yes but also you just never know and I refuse to pretend otherwise) but I can say I can't WAIT to find out.

Character Rankings (Fave to Least Fave atm)

SAND. Sand my darling my shit stirrer my passive aggressive asshole. I've already made a whole post about how calculated he was in his manipulation this episode - he wound Ray up and watched him go, and literally only interfered when the result flared out at Nick. Which shows me exactly how little he cares about any of these people and desperately makes me need his ex to be alive and to show up real time because Sand has some very complicated, very unresolved issues there and frankly, caring about Ray or not I think he's still in love with them.

If they are dead though that would make a lot of sense, mostly because now Sand is sort of frozen in that place of betrayal and anger and yeah, love, thwarted as it was. It would also explain his need to destroy Top at the cost of everything else.

I still wonder if it was a woman. I want it to be Mix but we keep referencing that San likes both and he's yet to be seen with a woman, so.

And nope, did not miss his passive aggressive digs at Ray either. "I see why you like him." "He's lucky he has someone like you looking out for him." Especially that first one. Lbr that was entirely a dig and while I get it - he's smarting from everything that happened with Boston before (regardless of how hard he pushes it down it's still obvious) and he figures why the hell not, no one else gives a shit so why should I, I know exactly what I am to this person and it's practically nothing so what does it matter if I use him? Tit for tat - I'm not so far up his ass (yet, there's always next week) that I can't see how fucked up it is. I just also kind of love it. I'm impressed, tbh. I was fully expecting Sand to reveal the tape to Ray out of some stupid "I just want you happy wah" thing and to have him do it this way floored me. I have said before that what I want from his storyline with Ray is mutual destruction and if things keep going along on these lines I will be very pleased. That second fight still worries me though.

I will also say that I bet I'm angrier about Ray calling him a whore (twice! In less than ten minutes!) than Sand will probably be. Sand did this, he wound Ray up as I already said, and if there's one thing that has been entirely consistent with his character thus far it's that he takes responsibility (perhaps takes it when things aren't even really his fault). He takes responsibility for his own feelings and he takes responsibility when he fucks up. I can definitely see him deciding he earned what he got, even if Ray went straight for what he knew would hurt the most - hasn't Sand told him over and over that he's not going to be bought? - he also went straight for Ray's weakest spot to get what he wanted out of him. Tit for tat.

That said, I can very much also see him internalizing that that's what Ray thinks about him. Especially if that turns into Ray's go-to insult when they fight (as I guess it might just).

I'd say he's the episode MVP, but actually he's tied with

MEW. Oh, Mew. I keep saying that it's always the reserved ones that go the most nuts when crossed and neither Sand nor Mew has proven me wrong this episode. Also the man just has a delicious sense of drama and who doesn't love that? The way he lulled Top into thinking all was well and then lured him into believing that there would be sexy times, followed up by that fucking line. I screamed and then started cackling (very quietly, it was early here and people were sleeping). MEW YOU ABSOLUTE LEGEND. I had clocked that he wasn't having fun and that he was extremely subdued about Top's showoff gift but him punching Ray really convinced me that he was gonna ignore everything Ray had been trying to say.

That said, they better not reveal that they cooked this up together because then why did Ray go full scorched earth? If it was a plan they could have executed it in pretty much any other way.

Nah, feels wrong to me. What I think is that Mew punched Ray because he was ruining Mew's on the spot plans to confront Top himself, but also because wow bestie how about we don't humiliate me in front of all our friends? Plus he knows that if he apologizes Ray will forgive him anything. It's a benefit of the whole BFF being in love with you business.

Loved the bath smile in the preview. My guess is he's gonna revenge fuck Ray, but only after Top thinks that he's forgiven him and they get back together. It'll be very messy. Why can't he fuck Sand instead that would be the ultimate revenge for both really.

Boston. Yeah, Boston. He read Ray to filth in this ep while ALSO trying to lead him into thinking that telling Mew about him and Top fucking behind his back would be just as bad as fucking Top behind his back. Like it's genius and fucked up and eighteen levels of wrong and it ultimately didn't work but jesus.

And then at the end of the whole mess he is the only one who got to go home with a dude that still wants him. And I have to appreciate that that's because Nick already knew. Sure it wasn't fun to hear I bet but it's not like it's not something Boston hasn't been clear about.

He got a reprieve this week but I suspect he knows that. He's gonna go gunning for Nick too because he's not a dumb man and he can put two and two together and get four (even though sometimes it suits his purposes to make five instead) and it's gonna dawn on him sooner than later that he has someone very very close to him who has access to all kinds of fun spy equipment, doesn't he? Why yes he does.

Looking forward to watching Mew yeet him into the pool next ep though.

Ray. I love mess, and boy howdy did Ray bring it this ep. I'm incredibly unsure why he decided to burn all his bridges so spectacularly, but well, he's drunk and maybe high definitely feeling sorry for himself and we don't always make the best decisions in those situations. Seen speculation that he fully intends on hurting himself by getting behind the wheel and yeah, that also rings true.

He also knows just where to hit everyone where it hurts and he didn't hold back, did he? If I can't blame or hate Boston for what he did last ep then the same must be said for Ray - he wasn't spewing anything that wasn't true...until he got to Sand. There it was entire untruths but I don't like Ray enough to try to unpack that, especially since my less than rosy view of Ray means that I am inclined to think the worst. Frankly what I want to say is that all Sand is to Ray, whether he's actually paying for it or not, but even I know that's uncharitable. See, growth (mine, not Ray's - I think we've got at least three episodes before we see growth from Ray).

And frankly I don't think Boston was entirely wrong that he hopes that Mew finding out about Top and Boston will send him to Ray's arms - it's not the whole reason he needs Mew to know, but yeah. it's there in the back of his mind. I still don't blame him for telling him.

But also I'm with Sand - getting in a car the way he is isn't entirely about him, he could seriously hurt someone else and that pisses me the fuck off. I have a real bug bear about drunk driving. No excuse is a good excuse for that shit and that's why he's lower than Boston this week. Fuck him for that honestly.

Top. This might be controversial, but I feel kind of bad for Top this ep. I mean, not horribly bad, I was having a great time watching everything fall apart around him, but a little bad.

And here's the reason why: I don't think that he is entirely playing a part with Mew. I do think he likes him - not sure if I buy love but he does like him, perhaps a lot. The man is a nasty piece of work who slips into cocky assholery way too easily for my tastes, but I also think that he's kind of put in that role and so goes with it. He did try to be cordial with Sand this ep - kind of insane when you think about the fact that Sand hates him, Top knows Sand hates him, and he also knows why - but he didn't switch to assholery until he took his cue from Sand. Same when he ran into Sand with his car - he was sorry and worried but then Sand wouldn't follow that script so he followed. He does the same thing with Boston when they interact.

I think he enjoys being with Mew because Mew lets him be the best version of himself. But of course the asshole is still there underneath, he can't run from it, so it all falls apart around his ears. I do think he holds genuine affection for Mew, but what does that matter when he's screwed over so many people in the past? I think he also likes the novelty of doing love and sex Mew's way, but I also believe that he'll only play the penitent for so long before he loses patience. I'm curious to see if I'm right, and how things will go if so.

Chuem. Every time this woman opened her mouth it was to be a dick. Like, damn. I knew she wasn't some sweet angel but I get the impression the only one of her friends she really likes is Mew. Curious why, because she seemed to at least like Ray well enough two years ago. At the very least Mew is the only one that she's not casually cruel to.

Nick. Babe. You're pretty but I'm gonna need you to do something okay? Yes, even if your revenge hits Sand at least it'll hit SOMEONE. Because right now you're just a succession of "oh shit" faces and I need more.

Relationships (Most to Least Fave atm)

TopMew. Yep. They finally got really interesting and beat out BostonNick. I am so curious what Mew is gonna do to Top. I already said that my top guess is making Top work for it, making him think he's forgiven him...and then fucking Ray and making sure he finds out about it. This suspicion will turn into a certainty if he finds out that Top fucked Boston because he thought there something happened with him and Ray.

Nick and Sand. I want them to hash it out and make up. I said I'd be okay if Nick's revenge hit Sand but I really won't be haha, I want them to end the show still friends. They are usually really good at talking to each other so I have some hope. Don't let these men you probably won't even know anymore in a year screw up a friendship that might actually last beyond college, guys. Also you should make out.

Sand and Top and the ex. The way I am being teased about this is not nice. GIMME. I want answers, don't care how I want them now. Make it messy please. Please please please please please I want the ex to show up like a wrecking ball and for Sand to utterly lose all his shit over it.

BostonNick. Still think these two deserve each other. Am READY for Boston to put two and two together and get Nick fucking bugged his car, though. And maybe he can get Nick to play the recording from him since at this point he and Chuem are the only two who haven't heard it. I am curious to see what if anything Nick does when it all falls apart. I kind of want him to ascend to unhinged lengths as yet unseen.

SandRay. I guess the mask is off now (even though I kinda think it was always off, lol). I do not ship this. They are bad for each other and Ray especially needs to just not be anywhere near a romantic relationship, but especially not with Sand who has a serious caretaking complex that is going to foster some really nasty codependence, as well as a far too patient streak which will only encourage Ray to keep lashing out at him whenever he wants (yes this ep he did what he did but I cannot stress enough that it wasn't really about Ray. Oh, he took his shots but at it's heart this was all about getting at Top. Top is a special case for Sand, he's a dude who riles him up just by existing. Ray might get there eventually but currently he's nowhere near on Top's level for Sand, he'll put up with perhaps a LOT more before he finally gets to that point).

Every week I worry that Sand is gonna enter his doormat era, and every week they've neatly dodged it happening. But oh, we still have six weeks to go and the worst fight is yet to come so that worry ain't fading anytime soon.

As I've said, mutual destruction is more fun for me so this ep wasn't half bad on that front. If things stay in this vein I might actually work around to enjoying it as a disaster ship.

In Conclusion

I'm gonna need everyone to stop it with the slut shaming, please. Boston's an ass, but he's not an ass because he likes to sleep around and I'm kind of tired of the conflation of the two.

i plan on posting content of some of these characters myself probably, most likely art bc as much as i want to post fics here, writing snz fics is actually sooo difficult for me like i can’t keep up with the plot for anything rip

sil/ent h/ill; okay so honestly i have one specific game that i care about in terms of snz content and that’s sh4. like all the main characters would work tbh but bc this is me we’re talking about wa/lter su/llivan is my man. evil pathetic meow meow

the e/vil wi/thin; ru/vik is too much of a sexy loser for us not to be snzifying him. also his nose is really hot sooooooo… (i also think le/slie would be v cute with a snzy cold but i want to make it abundantly clear that i would never intend to infantilize him as much of the mid-2010s general fandom did, nor would i want to sexualize the abuse he suffered in ANY way. there’s too much nuance to portraying his character than i should get into here)

damn you really went off (as you should ofc) but don’t worry too much. as someone who can watch 1 episode of a show (so long as the ep touches on its romantic subplots) and tell you with 85% certainty what will be canon, what will never be canon, what is still up in the air, and who will be endgame, i know this: taimizu is central. mizemi is not. yes akemi is more prominent as a character than taigen. but the very little romantic and/or sexual content she and mizu currently have going on right now is not enough to sustain a full slow-burn canon ship capable of being endgame. not with where taimizu is at, and certainly not with how taimizu is clearly being favoured to be the actual full slow-burn canon ship capable of being endgame. if taimizu was too obvious or not obvious enough, i would have doubts. but it really does strike the perfect balance between text and subtext, plot and sub-plot, mutual character development intertwined with plot development, and more. as of now, mizu and akemi have no reason to be personally close for any long period of time, and i doubt that is likely to change unless both akemi and mizu’s motives alter drastically. that doesn’t mean i don’t think they won’t get a romantic subplot and/or scene(s) though, because they definitely will (to what degree, that is yet to be seen).

and that one Q&A from that one article that mizemi shippers use as “proof” of mizemi being canon in season 2, is actually proof of absolutely nothing beyond the prospect that the show runners and writers will continue to tease mizemi and that they very much want a love triangle. nothing about how the show-runners worded their answer confirms that there will even be any mizemi content in season 2 (it could be season 3 or 4 based on the choice of wording). the interviewer said they liked mizu and taigen’s dynamic, but were also kind of rooting for mizu and akemi to kiss, and one of the two showrunners responded with: “then you’re rooting for a second season”. that’s it. all they said is that if you want more mizemi then the show needs to be renewed for a second season first. there needs to be more blue eye samurai if there is any possibility of mizemi content in the future. neither showrunner even said that there would be mizemi content in season 2 specifically. it is a very deliberately cheeky and clever response, but it really doesn’t confirm anything concrete unless you read into it with a heavy bias. mizemi shippers are putting the cart before the horse here imo (when it comes to this interview). i read it as: if mizu and akemi ever do kiss, we would need to get the show renewed first in order to make that content, so go campaign for a second season! (this interview was before bes was renewed for season 2 btw). so… yeah. i’m not worried.

the creators have made it incredibly clear at every possible opportunity that yentl was a huge inspiration when creating blue eye samurai, and they have given no indication that they are dropping that theme any time soon.

ik ik the more meta i get about it the more accurate i get istg (i know this basically just sounds like: “source: trust me bro” and it is tbh but i am also always right about this stuff lmao).

but yeah. there definitely will be more mizemi or at the very least possible mizemi content (and i personally love the prospect of a poly dynamic) but with how things stand right now… i don’t think bes with do anything more than aggressively flirt with the idea mizu x akemi (pun intended) or at least, that’s how it appears right now. i do hope there’s some canon romantic and/or sexual mizemi scenes in the future, i do believe that is very likely and i very much am rooting for it, but as of now, i do not want it to, nor believe it to, go any further than that. things change ofc, and who knows what season two will bring. hell, there may be major story restructuring that changes all this (not likely imo, but possible)… so, yeah.

bottom line: mizemi is not going to get the kind of play that some shippers seem to think it will, and that’s just my own opinion as of now. it may change once we get more info about season 2, but that’s just playing the “what if” game.

A huge reason why Zuko has been immortalized so fervently is because ATLA came out in the mid 2000s, nearing two decades ago. With the state of basic reading comprehension, much less media literacy, social awareness, and chronically online behaviour that exists nowadays in a way it did not exist fifteen years ago, I would be surprised if the live action ATLA tv adaptation didn’t make Zuko a bit more likeable right off the bat. I’m not saying I agree with it, but if the show-runners are concerned about audiences reactions to Sokka’s (wrong, but relatively mild) sexism that exists in only the first few episodes of the show, then the idea of redeeming Zuko has got to be terrifying them. Tbh I don’t entirely blame them, even though I’m not certain it’s a good idea for the story as an adaptation.

Sure, she liked Robin: she was sweet, if a little annoying sometimes, and very clever. She was one of the few people who actually took Nancy seriously and would have gone above and beyond to protect her. And, to Nancy's biggest surprise, she also found Robin's sense of humor somewhat cool.

Of course, she liked her. But she didn't like like her, right?

Yet, that acidic envy bubbling in her chest didn't cease as that girl giggled at something Robin said, and it only flared up more when she laid a hand on Robin's arm. Nancy's grip around her glass tightened so much, it was a wonder she didn't shatter it.

As always, Robin looked adorable in her striped shirt and faded jeans. Her hair was a little mussed from the wind, and there was that beautiful smile on her face, that bright toothy one that always caused a pleasant flutter inside Nancy's chest for some reason.

For a second, Robin glanced in her direction, and Nancy quickly looked away, focusing on her drink instead. The last thing she needed right now was for Robin to notice her ogling.

She heard the girl laugh again, and Nancy wished she had El's powers and could slam her against the wall with her mind.

God, why did she harbor such hostile feelings towards a complete stranger?

The answer was faintly vibrating at the back of her mind, but Nancy brushed it off. Robin was a girl, and Nancy was only interested in boys. This wasn't jealousy, it couldn't be. She just simply wanted to be Robin's only friend, that was it.

(Then, why wasn't she jealous of Steve?)

"Hey."

Nancy looked up, and there was Robin, standing above her with an almost shy smile. Despite the emotional turmoil raging inside her, Nancy felt a flush creeping onto her cheeks.

"Hey."

"I waved to you, but you probably didn't see me," Robin said. She shifted her weight from one foot to the other, suddenly seeming nervous. "Uhm, is everything okay?"

"Yeah," Nancy replied quickly, then she took a sip of her drink, doing her best to avoid Robin's eyes. "Why wouldn't it be?"

Robin bit her lip, tilting her head to the side. She seemed to be inspecting Nancy's face, trying to figure out the reason behind her behavior. Nancy wished Robin was a little worse at reading her feelings.

"Because you're acting strange, no offense," Robin replied, holding her hands up as if in defense. "You're barely looking at me. You're all cold and I just... wanna know, if I hurt you or something?"

"I'm just tired," Nancy replied dismissively. She couldn't help the bitter edge in her voice when she added, "you didn't need to abandon your little friend for me."

Robin's eyebrows shot up. She looked adorably confused as she stared down at Nancy.

"What...? Oh, Claire? We used to go to the same class. We did some catching up."

"Lovely."

"Okay, I really don't know what's going on with you, but you are definitely being weird," Robin huffed. "You know what? We'll talk later, once you get over this... whatever this is."

Before Nancy could stop her, Robin stormed off. Nancy stared after her, her chest tightening uncomfortably. Shit. She really messed this up, didn't she?

But she couldn't tell Robin the truth behind her reaction. That would ruin everything, not to mention, Nancy herself wasn't even sure what it meant.

She only knew that now that Robin has left, she felt a gaping hole at where her heart should have been.

Bucky decided to push through with his partnership with Wilson Enterprises. It was a big one, so it definitely required the entire team's effort and perseverance. Apparently, this is the company's biggest, most major project yet so this was going to look really good in your resume. It would also provide you with more credibility to further excel in your career.

Except that Bucky actually hired a marketing consultant to take over the entire project as his revenge.

"Any questions? About the project or about Kenzie?" Bucky asked, standing in front of the conference room, next to Mackenzie.

You confidently raised your hand when no one else did. Bucky tilted his head, a tiny smirk tugging at the corner of his lips. He knew you were affected, of fucking course you were!

"Yes?" he called out.

You stood up and sighed softly, "I mean this in the most respectful way, Mister Barnes." you said, emphasizing his name. "But as the head of marketing, what exactly is my role here? Given that Mackenzie was hired to spearhead the marketing aspect of this project." you said, giving Mackenzie a passive aggressive smile.

"I don't want to overstep on some boundaries here, that's why I'm asking. I just want clarity, that's all." you said.

Bucky was about to respond when Mackenzie stopped him, grabbing his arm and squeezing it before taking over the floor. You narrowed your eyes at how her slender fingers were wrapped around Bucky's arm.

"Honey..." Mackenzie started. "There's nothing to worry about, this is a collaborative work between you and I. So think of yourself as my assistant, someone to help me out with the project." she responded.

Bitch.

"I'm not an assistant, Mackenzie." you said, smiling at her.

Mackenzie laughed, "I'm sorry, my bad. I shouldn't have used that term. Oops." she said. "Although, I believe I have more experience in this area so maybe consider me a mentor?" she suggested.

Bitch!

Bucky cleared his throat, "If you have certain ideas, you can discuss it with her. She is a consultant after all. Given her impressive experience in the field, I'm sure you'll learn a thing or two from her."

The meeting was wrapped up by noon and you simply couldn't wait to get yourself out of the conference room. You didn't feel like talking to Bucky anymore in all honesty, not after what he was doing. You knew this was just to spite you, get you to cave in first and give in to him.

All the more that you wouldn't, especially not when he actually used your job against you.

Everyone started rushing out of the conference room, ready to head out for lunch. As soon as you reached the doorway, you overheard the short conversation between Bucky and Mackenzie.

"Hey Bucky, we still up for lunch?"

The bathroom was empty when you stepped inside and thank god for that because you couldn't hold back your emotions any further. Tears gathered in the corner of your eyes, not because you were hurt. Fuck no, you were angry and frustrated. So fucking angry at yourself for getting into this mess, at Bucky for being such an entitled prick, at the entire world for plotting against you.

You groaned in irritation as you wiped away your tears, sniffing as you looked at yourself in the mirror.

You worked your ass off for this job, for your position. You risked your dignity when you let Bucky fuck you. You weren't going to let someone take that away from you.

You quickly fixed yourself when the door opened, followed by the loud clacking of someone's heels.

"Omg, are you crying?" Beverly gasped, rushing over to you.

You snickered, "No." you lied, "My eyes are itchy." you huffed out before noticing that Beverly was holding a sandwich in her hand.

"Why did you bring your sandwich here?" you curiously asked.

Beverly shrugged, "The pantry's full and the other girls don't exactly seem to like me...so..."

You shook your head and sighed, "Come with me, let's have lunch out. I need to get out of this fucking place anyway."

"Yay, omg! I knew you were nice! You're like, the only girl who actually talked to me nicely." Beverly said, tagging behind you as you exited the bathroom.

"Oh, there you are!" Mark called out. "I was looking for you. Wanna grab lunch? Oh...who's this?" he asked, noticing the blonde girl trailing behind you.

"I'm Beverly! I'm Sir James' new secretary." she introduced excitedly.

You sighed, "Don't ask me why." you said when Mark turned to you with a confused look, still not sure what happened to Bucky's previous secretary.

"So, lunch out? With Bev?" you asked.

You were completely zoning out during lunch despite the ongoing conversation between Mark and Bev, something about yoga? You honestly couldn't care less, not when you were feeling so conflicted about your current situation.

Would Bucky actually go that far just to get you back? Or does he actually hate you for saying no to him and is basically using his authority to make your life a living hell?

"So I heard about the new girl." Mark said, that snapped you out of your trance.

"Huh?" you asked.

"I find it weird for Mister Barnes to hire someone when you're here." Mark pointed out. "I mean, are you okay with that or..."

You snorted, "Fuck no. Look, I'm not gonna be the bigger person here. I was offended as fuck." you admitted.

"Yeah, it's super weird because she was hired through Tinder or something. Is that even legal?" Beverly pointed out as she scrolled through her phone.

You and Mark turned to her abruptly, "Tinder? Wait, what?" you asked.

Beverly chuckled, "I heard them talking this morning and Kenzie was like, 'It's so funny that we matched on Tinder and ended up doing business there you know' and I'm like omg Sir James has Tinder and I have one too but I never saw him there, bummer."

"Motherfucker." you hissed out.

Mark made a face, "Are you okay?" he carefully asked. "You've been really tensed since last week."

Apparently, Bucky never deleted his Tinder and have been swiping right on women. And that's how he met Mackenzie who just happened to be a marketing consultant. Now you were just furious, was he fucking her too? Has he been fucking other women this entire time?

"Hey, Bev..." you said, a plan hatching inside your mind. "Can I ask you a favor?" you asked nicely.

Beverly nodded, "Um duh, you're basically my office BFF now."

"If you ever hear Mister Barnes and Mackenzie talk about hmm, I don't know...something interesting. Maybe about the project...me 'cause you know, I'm the head of marketing and Mackenzie’s in the same field...let me know, will ya?" you asked.

Mark chuckled nervously, "I don't know what's going on but isn't that an invasion of privacy?"

"She's not going to eavesdrop, Mark. She'll just...listen closely." you explained.

"Bev might get in trouble if Mister Barnes finds out." Mark warned.

You waved a hand, "She'll be fine, Mark. She's his secretary, she has to know everything. Besides, I'm not going to let her get in trouble, if she does then I'll take care of it."

Beverly squealed in delight, "Omg, you are not my office BFF. You're like my office mom! You and Mark are literally my office parents." she said, lifting her phone up in the air.

"Selfie! This one goes to the 'gram." she said, taking a quick photo of the three of you.

She then proceeded to edit the photo while you and Mark continued eating lunch.

"Bev, you should really put your phone away and eat first. We have less than half an hour left for lunch break." Mark called out.

Beverly groaned and rolled her eyes, "Way to get into the role, Mark. You're such a dad."

You snorted, "Yeah. Loosen up, daddy." you teased.

"Playing family after just one date, huh."

Bucky's presence in the same restaurant should've really intimidated you, most especially that he just witnessed you tease Mark like that. But you were too mad at him to even care, what was the point even? He didn't believe you even when you told him the truth that Mark was just a friend.

Why even try now?

"Hi Sir James." Beverly greeted happily.

"Mister Barnes." Mark acknowledged.

Bucky ignored them and kept his eyes on you. You didn't falter under his gaze and simply stared back at him with blank eyes. It's as if a staring competition took place when the both of you merely looked at each other, neither of you looking away nor attempting to do so.

"How was that date last Friday, Jim?" Bucky asked, his eyes still trained on yours.

Mark made a funny face at the name that Bucky called him but shrugged anyway. Before he could even respond, you decided to answer on his behalf. If Bucky wanted to spite you, you'd give him a taste of his own medicine.

"It was actually great. We might go on another one this Friday." you said.

"We are?" Mark asked in a whisper.

Bucky's hand landed on Mark's shoulder, "Don't count on it, Andrew. She's going to be doing a lot of work on Friday due to the project." he said through gritted teeth.

You shrugged, "Oh, but I thought Mackenzie's doing all my work?"

"I'm ready to head back, Buck."

Speak of the devil herself. Mackenzie weaved through the tables and approached Bucky, her face brightening up when she saw you, Mark and Beverly.

"Oh, hey you." she greeted you. "Look, I think we may have started off on the wrong foot earlier. I'm not here to take your job, just here to spice things up a bit. Improve your ideas, give Bucky some assistance." she chuckled, holding onto Bucky's arm yet again.

You fought back the urge to grab your glass of water and throw it at her face. As the saying goes, kill them with kindness. So you merely shrugged and extended an arm for a handshake.

"Of course. I would love to improve your ideas as well, you know. Just a healthy discourse between two marketing professionals. We good?" you said.

Mackenzie forced out a chuckle and reached for your hand, "We’re good. I look forward to working with you." she said before turning back to Bucky who was still gazing at you.

"Let's go?" she asked sweetly.

Bucky smirked at you before wrapping an arm around Mackenzie's waist, guiding her out of the restaurant the same way he did to you. You were too focused on Bucky's body language around Mackenzie that you failed to notice that Mark was watching you closely, your expressions and how you reacted towards Bucky.

"I think I know what's happening."

"You what?!"

"Shhh!" you hushed Mark and peeked out of the empty pantry to make sure the coast was clear.

Mark noticed the tension between you and Bucky and he came to a conclusion that the both of you dated at one point. He wasn't really wrong but he wasn't right either. So you decided to tell him everything, from the moment you matched with Bucky on Tinder until your last conversation with him last Saturday.

"I honestly thought you were dating, I didn't know there was sex involved. No wonder he had been calling me weird names." he said incredulously. "Was that you and Mister Barnes that Janet reported to the HR?" he asked, stifling his laughter.

You groaned, "Yes. Ugh, gave me a panic attack when I found out about that incident report." you said.

"Hey..." Mark called out. "Thank you for trusting me enough to tell me this. Your secret is safe with me." he reassured.

You nodded, "I think it was about time that I told someone about us anyway. This whole situation is driving me crazy and I don't know what to do next. And I'm sorry for dragging you into this mess, I shouldn't have said that we were going out again. I don't want you or your job getting compromised because of our petty fight." you exhaled.

You had to admit, you felt so much better now after confiding with Mark. It somewhat alleviated the weight on your shoulders, knowing that there was someone aware of what you were going through. Who would've thought that this person would end up being Mark? You did have friends outside of work of course, but you felt like they all wouldn't really understand the situation.

Half would hate you for rejecting Bucky and the other half would hate you for even swiping right on him.

"Do you mind an unsolicited advice?" Mark asked.

"Not at all." you said.

"Ignore him. Don't let him or Mackenzie get to you. Do what you do best, you're great at your job and you'll be fine. That might get him to realize that you're not a prize to be won. And if he still doesn't see that, then that's his loss. You're more than just that hot marketing girl at work." Mark said.

You laughed at his last statement, "Hot marketing girl at work?" you asked, shaking your head.

"It's true. So if in any case you decide to ditch the CEO and move on, you know where to find me." he joked, throwing a wink your way.

You wanted to finish all your reports so you could focus on the huge project so you decided to work until around nine in the evening. The floor was already empty by the time you were done. Bucky seemed to be working too, given that he was still replying to e-mails at this hour. Wanting to get all the reports over with, you decided to submit it to him before going home.

During the elevator ride to Bucky’s floor, you couldn’t help but wonder whether he was alone in the office. Would Mackenzie be there with him? Even at this hour? Your grip on the folder tightened at the thought of catching them in the act.

But did you have any right to feel this way though?

Brushing off the thoughts, you exhaled loudly and prepared yourself for whatever it was you were to witness. Upon reaching the door to Bucky’s office, you slightly turned your head to listen to anything. It was quiet. No hushed whispers nor strained grunts-- they weren’t fucking, thank goodness for that.

You decided not to knock and just walk inside like you used to, reminding yourself of Mark’s advice.

Don’t let Bucky get to you.

When you saw Bucky hunched over his desk, typing away on his e-mails instead of bending a certain brunette somewhere in his office, you had to admit that you were relieved. He looked up and his eyes looked dead tired, you almost felt sorry for him. Almost.

“You should really learn how to knock.” Bucky called out, slamming his laptop shut.

“Look, Bucky. I was just rushing to submit these reports so I can go home.” you explained and placed the folder on top of his desk.

Bucky frowned, “I said to call me Mister Barnes.”

You huffed out, “I honestly don’t care, Bucky. I’m not playing your damn games anymore.” you said and turned around.

A hand on your arm pulled you back, harshly turning you around to face Bucky. He was fuming, as usual. At this point, you were no longer fazed.

“You think I don’t know what you’re trying to do?” he asked.

You clenched your jaw and pulled your arm back, “I’m not doing anything. You bring in Beverly or Mackenzie or whoever it is that you have up your sleeve. I don’t fucking care. I just want to focus on work.” you said and stepped away.

“And you should too, Bucky.” you added.

“I don’t believe you.” he said.

You sighed, your shoulders dropping from exhaustion at this whole shenanigan. “I’m done, Bucky.”

And with that you turned around to exit his office, leaving Bucky unsure whether you truly meant what you said. A victorious smirk graced your lips as you walked back to the elevator.

You were far from done.

you've been in the fandom longer than i have. in your opinion, does hybe do everything they can to protect their artists? was it better when it was just bighit? because every day i go on twitter and i see someone blame hybe for something, for not protecting someone enough or not suing. but the thing is, lawsuits don't happen in 1 hour, and hybe does release their statements about the legal actions that they took (and i choose to believe they really do take those and not just say it). what more can they do??

i don't think there's a black or white answer to this question tbh, it's very easy to blame everything on hybe and also very easy to defend them completely but i personally think that while hybe probably do a lot behind the scenes (and they should be doing it behind the scenes anyway bc i don't think they need to air out every single detail about their lawsuits, it kind of defeats the point of privacy and the entire lawsuit in any case) and we don't (and won't, for good reason) know how many fires they're putting out on a daily basis anyway, but there is always always going to be things they CAN do better with, they're a gigantic company, they should be able to take down these posts far quicker than they are rn, the same sasaengs from when i joined the fandom are still going strong and they should not be (which, again, might not be a hybe issue considering they're all rich as fuck) but they sure as hell can do a better job of keeping them away from the members! i'm definitely all for sending hybe emails for speaking about accounts spreading misinformation that is actively harming the artists because that option exists for a reason or about sasaengs, it's FOR hybe to know about things quicker and to be more informed about the situation, especially because so many of these accounts go private / switch to other websites / etc. whenever they're caught on one site. however, i don't think the trending on twitter is the way to go about it because that's literally how /i/ find out about most of these issues that should not be spreading in the first place. i curate my tl for a reason and it defeats the point of maintaining their privacy when you're trending these hashtags about their private matters, if that makes sense.

the tl;dr of this is, it's a very grey area and we don't know anything that is happening behind the scenes so we can't fully blame the company nor can we just simply not hold them accountable, there needs to be some sort of balance to it but i'm not an expert on the topic so i don't really have anything helpful to add.

Hello! Playing devil's advocate here, but surely we'd at least have had an announcement for s5 by now if tjlc was real and s5 was really coming? Doesn't it maybe seem more likely that the signs pointing to s5 and tjlc were a combination of being led on ("fans will be desperate for s5"), queerbaiting (some of the more obvious (which, tbh, most were) indicators of johnlock), reading too much into things (some of the less obvious indicators) and coincidence (the whole fourth pip thing)? Again, devil's advocate - I personally do think there are a couple too many loose threads for no s5 - but I'd be interested in your answer

Hi there. We’re not sure what kind of answer you’re really looking for and what your knowledge base/experience is with tjlc, so we’ll try to answer in the simplest way possible while covering our bases.

First, if any part of you is asking these questions because it’s coming from a place of insecurity and needing confirmation before allowing yourself to “hope,” then we’re not the people to ask. That is not a healthy way to engage with a TV show theory, nor is it an objective way to engage with it. It’s important to not doubt your ability to cope with being “wrong.” As my therapist once put it, “confident” people don’t have confidence that they will never make a mistake, rather they know they can handle their reaction to mistakes. Mistakes will not shatter their happiness or make them a total failure. It is the fear of doubt and being wrong which will hold you back more than healthy skepticism ever will (This advice may not apply to you, but it does apply to a fair number of people past and present).

That being said…there isn’t one single piece of evidence (or even two or three) I could offer that would sell a potential series 5 without the added context of everything tjlc related. If you’re waiting for S5 to be announced before you fully engage with tjlc on an intellectual level, then there’s nothing I could say. If you are still willing to give it the benefit of the doubt, then the most complete argument for S5 (& tjlc in general really) is to look at BBC Sherlock holistically as having a five-act structure. With some emotional distance, it was much more obvious post-S4, but this analysis goes back to July 2016 if not earlier.

Besides this, the argument that it “seems more likely that the signs pointing to s5 and tjlc were a combination of being led on . . . queerbaiting . . . reading too much into things . . . and coincidence” cannot be simply contested in just this one post. We’ve argued against these things ad nauseum for years. If S5 is announced, this will not make all doubts about tjlc dissipate over night. It will not convince people of tjlc on its own and, frankly, nor should it.

They could have waited to announce it simply because they are in no personal hurry, because of Martin & Ben’s schedules and/or the pandemic (at least in part.) Regardless, there’s too much we don’t know to definitively say what their reasons are or are not.

The most compelling argument imo for why they have waited this long at all, has always been the inescapable fact that there are multiple Sherlock Holmes stories which remain under copyright until 2023. Even in 2020 Doyle’s estate tried to sue Netlfix because Enola Holmes depicted Holmes as ‘respectful of women,’ as well as too ‘emotional’ and ‘empathetic,’ arguing that he only fits these descriptions in the stories which were under copyright at the time. Their argument is terrible and there are definite holes so thankfully it was dismissed. But if these are the sort of details they would be willing to squabble over then surely an adaptation that dared to depict and "re-interpret" canon to say Holmes is gay would no doubt kick up controversy at the very least and probably lawsuits. As far as I know there wasn’t the same controversy/lawsuit over Watson being secretly in unrequited love with Holmes in The Irregulars, but Holmes' sexuality is another story altogether especially since many would sooner argue he did not have one at all.

Given all of the above, at this point why not wait until 2023 to bring back the show at all? Especially, if they plan to reference the specific stories under copyright. Even if they thought the estate would lose, why risk it or the hassle? Maybe they will announce it this year or 2023, or maybe not. If they don’t, our opinions won’t change any time soon, but nevertheless we cannot argue that they absolutely must have already announced S5 by now for our theory to be right that they plan to make a 5th, let alone tjlc.

Izuna has... honestly a crush isn't the right word, but he's fixated on Tobirama. in the beginning is out now, so we can say that Izuna gave up his entire life and identity in order to build a new one that's all about Tobirama. Tobirama is the center of his universe and self in a very real way, so it's debatable whether he develops a crush or just interprets his obsession as one, but Izuna has Feelings of some sort.

For TobiIzu: Whether Tobirama will ever reciprocate Izuna's feelings or if Izuna will just chill a bit after some things are resolved and Izuna gets to have a more normal life is still up in the air. Either way though it will be very late in the series.  Honestly it's possible that we'll just see how the writing goes when we get there. But very intense Tobi&Izu will definitely be present and it could be interpreted as Tobi/Izu (feel free to do so, we like tobiizu, Red is just not sure whether it fits this particular fic bc plot/dynamics). 

Re: the series being sad/ types of sad:

loss and hardship, mainly bc of Izuna's isolation and identity shift, and trying to cope with it. That's especially prominent in the first few chapters of fic 1, because that's when Izuna has just left the Uchiha and hasn't developed any coping mechanisms yet, or even realized all of what he's dealing with. 

canon typical violence and injury, causing and receiving, bc there’s a war going on

grief; all the canon dead brothers are still dead, plus Madara and Izuna's mother, and Taijima (and Butsuma) will eventually die as well. Also Izuna is legally dead so he’s lost a lot of relationships even though the people are still alive. So that's going to affect all of the characters at some points, although it's not the central feel of the series. 

relationship conflicts, more in the later fics though.

There's going to be a shorter fic in which Izuna gets the mangekyou, but you could skip that and read the rest of the series if you wanted to.

Everything will be okay in the end, at least for the series as a whole. It's possible that some side fics might have sad-ish/ominous endings? And the first fic is a 'things aren't fixed yet but they're BETTER' ending, because there's more of the series to finish fixing it in. But Para also doesn't like sad stuff for similar reasons,  and Red dislikes complete tragedies, so our goal is a mostly happy ending eventually, just a lot of stuff for Izuna to go through on the way.

Basically it’s a ‘it gets worse before it gets better’ situation, so it probably depends on how well the ‘but it DOES get better’ promise works for you.  But there are better moments along the way too.

yes absolutely. i like the system that prythian has, and they dont need a high king or queen. nor does rhysand even want it and i doubt feyre wants it either. its only amren who wants it for them. i think sjm potentially making them be rulers of prythian would be a shame tbh. and one of my besties pointed out that its most likely a plot point that sjm put in to add more books to a story that should have been over in acowar, which i 100% agree with. the good thing though is rhysand is refusing to even entertain the idea so hopefully nothing of this sorts actually happens. amren needs to shut up tho, like i love her but ma’am shut the fuck up.

Piers could barely hold back a snort as he overheard the new recruits, each and every one of them so starry-eyed over Leon that Piers could've probably stood right behind them for the rest of the day that they wouldn't have realized. It was always amusing, when Leon for some reason or another appeared at the BSAA HQ, seemingly just to dazzle the newcomers. Piers wasn't even sure who had first let Leon in, because it sure as hell wasn't exactly permitted for random government agents to just appear and break all the existing records both on the obstacle courses and the shooting range.

Well, almost all of the records. Piers still held the record for sharp shooting himself, and Chris did win when it came to anything that had to do with sheer strength. Everything else? Leon.

Maybe that was why he appeared back regularly. To see if he could still outdo himself.

Besides it wasn't like Piers minded. Nor Chris, for that matter. One would have to be dead not to appreciate the sight of Leon flipping his way through the obstacles and crushing a target with his thighs before practically cartwheeling over a wall most BSAA recruits couldn't even cross with the help of a rope.

As Piers walked by the new recruits standing around gawking at Leon instead of doing anything more productive, he heard more than his fair share of both innocently impressed comments and the kind of lewd commentary he had half the mind to immediately nip off in the bud. He pretended like he wasn't hearing any of it, though, but instead headed straight to where Chris was standing, staring at Leon as intently as anyone else.

Piers came to a halt next to Chris, their shoulders almost touching, and it was painfully obvious that Chris didn't even notice him there. Piers cleared his throat, and Chris practically jumped half a foot in the air as he startled. "What the hell, Piers!?" he hissed, low enough not to alert any of the others a few paces away.

"Enjoying the view?" Piers asked with a grin, not even trying to pretend like he wasn't laughing at Chris.

Chris only huffed. "Shut up. As if you wouldn't have."

That, now, was true if anything. If Piers hadn't been stuck inside in that godawful bore of a meeting he definitely would've used his time wisely and stared at Leon as much as anyone else. Instead of responding anything to Chris, he turned to look at Leon, holding his breath as he watched the graceful way the man moved. No one in this world could make a flip-kick look as fucking hot as Leon did. No one.

"Did he-" Piers started, but Chris read his mind and answered before he even got the question out. "He did."

Piers swallowed hard, shifting in his stance a little. Hopefully no one would notice how on board his body already was with this. Who needed any adult films to watch when there was Leon? He was fairly certain, no, he was absolutely certain that Chris was as helplessly turned on as he was, if not more considering how long he'd stood there watching.

"So, after this..." Piers started, trailing off.

Chris nodded solemnly. "Already took care of it. Canceled everything for the rest of the day." He took his eyes off Leon for long enough to give Piers a grin. "We have plans at home."

And Piers could've kissed him right then and there, if they hadn't agreed on no PDA at work. Best not to tempt fate, anyway, he might've lost it and climbed Chris right away if he'd gotten even half a step closer. "Hell yeah," he breathed out reverently. "This is why you're in charge."

Kenny's always been good at reading people. Stan's good at it, too. It's one of the defense mechanisms that they've picked up together but separately. Kenny learned it as part of conflict resolution; it's important to read the mood at home, to decide if he and his siblings should leave the room or if it'd be better to just flick on the TV. If he had to guess, he'd say that Stan got good at reading people at home, too. Neither Stan nor Shelly have ever been hit by their parents-- Kenny doesn't think they were spanked as kids, never mind gotten in a fist fight the way Kevin did sometimes with his dad. But violence isn't the only thing that does it. Stan knows if someone's safe to drive with or if they're going to weave between lanes. He knows the exact way to play babysitter to draw someone back from a nutty scheme. He knows how to mold himself to seem like less trouble to make things easier, when it matters.

Their experiences are different but the same, when it comes to picking up those little hints of a person. The cues that most people don't have reason to learn.

Kenny notices the shift, when Stan and Kyle fall in love with each other. He's always figured they'd end up together, once they figured their own shit out. Over junior year the way they look at each other changes-- not overnight, but not slowly, either, like it's shifting with the seasons. He actually thinks they're together when Stan starts talking about prom.

Except then Stan asks if he wants to skip it to play video games.

Kenny furrows his brows. "Is this a 'Poor Kenny' thing?"

"What do you mean?"

"I mean," Kenny says. Then he stops for a moment to consider which way to take it. His guess is that Stan's feeling sorry for him, because prom's kind of expensive if you do it right. Even doing it a little wrong is more expensive than what Kenny has. It's a hard thing to traverse, though, because if he's honest he likes it when his friends recognize the difference in what they all have to spend. The pop he's drinking is one Stan bought him. But there's a difference in wanting to tag along to McDonald's and maybe, every now and then, letting his friends order a happy meal for him, and wanting his friends to skip out on milestone moments just to play video games. "How come you and Kyle aren't going together?"

"We could," Stan agrees, holding his bottle of Fanta by the neck and spinning it in a lazy circle. Kenny knows he gets the glass ones instead of plastic because it makes him think of beer bottles. It's hard to tell if that scratches an itch or tickles at it. "But we'd just be hanging around, anyway. Same shit, different place."

"Or you could, you know, dance?"

Stan stops spinning his bottle. "With Kyle?" he asks.

He sounds so baffled that Kenny's actually almost surprised they don't need an extra step of 'With who?'

Which makes Kenny baffled, too. "Why not with Kyle?"

"Because we're not dating?"

"Is that a question?" Kenny asks. And before Stan can answer he says, "I thought you were. Finally." It seems like something they'd forget to tell him just because they've been half-dating for so long.He still can't stop himself from making snide comments when they box him out now and again, but when it comes to this--he hadn't even been offended, thinking they'd forgotten.

"Well. We're not."

"So ask him."

"Why would I do that?"

"Why the fuck wouldn't you do that?" Kenny demands. "I love you, Stan, but you're really stupid sometimes."

"Hey," Stan says, but he doesn't sound very offended.

"I know you love him."

"Okay," Stan says, "I love him."

Kenny waits a beat, but Stan doesn't keep going, which is a little maddening. "And he loves you."

"Not like that."

"Yes like that."

Kenny can tell he's not telling Stan anything he doesn't already know, the way he frowns and looks away.

"Why don't you ask Butters, then?" Stan snaps, peevish, looking at his feet. "If you're so smart. He'd go with you."

"Because," Kenny says.

Stan huffs through his nose and opens his eyes a little wider in a way that says, See? And man, maybe Kenny's a hypocrite, but Stan is a smug hypocrite, which is definitely more annoying.

"Fuck you," Kenny says.

"Fuck you, too," Stan says. They sit in silence for a moment and Stan takes another drink of Fanta. Another moment of silence and he says, "You should ask him, though, for real."

Maybe Kenny should, for real. Stan still doesn't like Butters much after all these years--Butters doesn't like Stan much, either-- so Kenny knows it's nothing Stan would suggest if he didn't think it was something that would make Kenny happier. "If I do, you have to talk to Kyle."

"Sure thing, Ken," Stan says. He's still got smug in his tone, like he's agreeing because he knows this is a bet he won't lose.

And it's still kind of annoying, mostly for the 'Ken' that Stan rarely uses except to be condescending, but only for about half a second. Stan can get up his own ass sometimes around Kenny for the same reason Kenny knows he can be petty, bitchy, around Stan. Kenny knows he can't claim a spot at the Super Best Friends table, but they've been regular best friends since they were three. They know each other's entire humanities, even the ugly bits. It's good sometimes, to have a place for the ugly.

They shoot the shit a while longer and then part ways. Stan takes both their empty bottles to recycle them.

Kenny goes over to Butters' house afterwards. He tells himself it's for Stan and Kyle's sake, or at least to force Stan to admit he doesn't have the guts, but he knows well enough he's using them as an excuse. He knocks on the door and waits.

"Kenny!" Butters greets him, bright-eyed. It's really hard to take someone looking at him like that. Like he's the only good thing in all of South Park.

"Hi," Kenny says. "Can I come in?"

"I'll come out," Butters says. "Your shoes are kinda muddy. Y'know my parents would throw a fit."

Kenny doesn't look down at his shoes. It's true, and he doesn't really mind Butters saying so. Even if he does think he could wipe his shoes clean enough.

They take a walk down to Stark's pond. Butters takes his hand halfway there. Kenny slows his pace to make sure it lasts a little longer just in case Butters wants to skip rocks. He doesn't let go, though, once they get there. They sit there holding hands and looking at the water.

"I need to tell you something. Then I need to ask you something," Kenny tells the water.

"Mm, all right," Butters says. His tone stays pitched up, chipper, but Kenny can hear the anxiety stretched underneath, like a safety net waiting to catch someone's fall. "Shoot."

"Well," Kenny says, deciding to back track a bit, because he doesn't like that anxiety. There are too many kids in South Park that have it sitting dormant under their voices, and he likes it least of all on Butters. "I want to ask you to prom. But I need to tell you something first."

The tension slides out at that and Butters smiles wide. "You're doing it all backwards, then, ain't'cha?"

"I do a lot of things backwards," Kenny says, "But you'll go with me? If I ask."

"Sure, I will!"

That doesn't surprise him, for the same reason he knows Stan won't be surprised if he asks Kyle-- or Kyle, if he asks Stan. "I need to tell you," Kenny starts again, "That I die a lot."

Butters tips his head. He looks at Kenny, eyes asking him to continue.

"I know it sounds crazy," Kenny says, "But you've seen me die. You've all seen me die. I used to die every day. And then I came back, and you'd all forget." He pauses as he stares at the lake. There are concessions he's learned he has to make, since the frustrated years of his childhood spent killing himself over and over again, intentionally and not. "I know now that you won't remember, the next time you see it. I just need you to believe me, before we...start anything."

"I believe you," Butters says immediately. He considers, then says, "Y'know, I think we all die a little. It's the comin' back that matters."

"Yeah?" Kenny knows Butters doesn't mean the physical, the way he does, but he also knows that Butters knows he does mean the physical.

"Yeah. I feel it, when part of me dies. Why, there's been times-- there's been times I figure enough of it's gone and died, that I ought to just end it all!" He's not just talking about Reality, and Kenny knows that, too. He's talking about the bits and pieces that have been killed by his parents, by the other students, by South Park as a whole. "But you come back to life. And if you work real hard at it, you come back stronger than before. It gets better...You said it doesn't happen every day anymore, didn't'cha?"

Kenny nods his head. He's a little surprised, that Butters had caught that with his saying it 'used to' be every day.

"Well, maybe someday it won't be happening at all, anymore. Maybe you're coming back stronger and stronger and it won't keep getting you. Not until it's supposed to."

"I'd like that," Kenny says, smiling.

"I'd like to go to prom with you," Butters says.

Kenny nods very fast. He wants, at that moment, more than just prom. He wants every life and every death with Butters. He wants them to go, hand-in-hand the way they are now, and face as many deaths and revivals as they have left in them, together.

also!!! i really appreciate your little note at the bottom, thank you so much for that. i completely get what you mean and totally see where you’re coming from, but i also think smut concepts/situations are extremely generic. i do not own the general idea of change room smut (but i do own all of the little specific bits and details that make my piece uniquely mine), nor does anyone else, and you’re more than welcome to write it if you’d like to (you don’t even need anyone’s permission!). what makes a piece unique and original isn’t merely the general idea of it (as general ideas are rehashed over and over and over again, genre films being a fantastic example, like rom coms or slashers! this is why ideas cannot be copyrighted) but the artist/author’s own unique and individual interpretation and expression of the concept itself. if you and i were to both receive the very general prompt of ‘change room smut’ and nothing else, just those three words, each of our pieces would end up being inherently unique despite encompassing the same topic, because no one will interpret it and write it the way YOU do.

there’s this fantastic quote from asha dornfest that goes: “i think new writers are too worried that it has all been said before. sure it has, but not by you.” and i love it, because it’s so true. no one can write what you write but you. it’s like how two painters can use the exact same reference and end up with completely different pieces that may share some very basic surface similarities but are wholly and completely unique pieces in and of themselves. there is a big difference between writing the same concept as someone (which will inevitably have a few similar basic surface details) vs taking inspiration from someone vs plagiarizing someone, you know? and there are definitely many complexities and nuances within that and i’m just boiling it down to it’s most basic points.

obviously when it comes to taking heavy inspiration from someone else then it’s a lot more complex and nuanced, and there should be a mention of the piece you’re taking heavy inspiration from. there’s also someone who has been consistently rewriting my work—literally REWRITING my stories—despite being caught three times now, and that is plagiarism, which is obviously never okay under any circumstances. so yes, there are definitely intricacies to it; there is absolutely a lot of grey area that heavily depends on the specific situation itself, and tbh i can see where you’re coming from, because if someone sent what they sent to you to me, i’d feel the same way you do.

the point i’m trying to make is that as long as you do not have the intention to steal someone else’s work and pass it off as your own, meaning your intention is to create something new, original, and yours, writing the same general concept is totally fine as you will inherently interpret the idea of ‘change room smut’ differently than i will (or than anyone else will, too!), because we are different people with different experiences, thoughts, opinions, beliefs, influences etc etc etc. and all of those things work together to create your unique, one of a kind style of writing + lens of interpretation as an author. thus, your expression of that concept will be ultimately unique to you and you alone, even if it has those few basic surface similarities, because like i said, no one can write what you write but you; no one will interpret and express a concept exactly the way YOU do.
