New setup for a new academic challenge! (I'm starting a PhD)

This is one of the few angles I think is correct in it's defense of universities and professors.

A little too often we see arguments that basically say: "they hate the university because they are stupid/because intellectualism makes you progressive" and this is just ... Not true. It has never been. Conservatism has a long intellectual tradition —even if there are conservatives whose program centers around the "death of intelligence" (to reference Spanish fascism).

Op here rightly points at what makes universities a target: it is a place where as a student you are forced to meet others, to listen to them, to work with them. Conservatives are not against university, they are against universal access to education, to free, public institutions that not only the privileged can enjoy.

We, however, shouldn't be satisfied with the mere existence of universities. We should at all times fight in defense of a university that is for everyone, that provides high quality education. We should fight for a public university that is the *only* serious alternative for anyone wishing to have a university degree.

PhD Day 267: My presentation went very very well and I feel so motivated now :) A treat to compensate for the lack of rest during these days, and early to bed. Tomorrow will be a long day of work!

PhD Day 14: feeling very tired today (it's not even 7 am yet). I have so many things to do and so little time. My big deadline for my grant proposal is getting closer and closer and I feel like all these other tasks get on the way.

I just need October to end to be able to focus on the research :)

PhD Day 38 (yesterday): this time for real, I finished doing all the changes my supervisor suggested so I have finally fully submitted my grant proposal!

PhD Day 279: I have to submit my State of the Art today... It's not a matter of setting a word goal to reach (I have more pages than necessary already), my problem integrating the three massive blocks of literature I have into a coherent text. Part one I'm happy with, part 2 needs nuance. Part 3 is a mess full of bullet points and incoherent notes.

Today I finally got myself a hobonichi weeks type of journal. I can't wait to experiment with different layouts to see what works best for me! I've been wanting to go back to paper for scheduling my week and today was the day I found just what I was looking for

PhD Day 69: I've been incredibly unproductive for the past week. Today I couldn't focus all day and only got into my reading 1h ago. Should I ruin my sleep schedule or should I go to sleep and just force myself to get shit done tomorrow morning?

PhD Day 27: I have 4 days to finish my grant application and I still feel lost but I guess the only way out is through

Today I went to my uni's library and I was the only person there (not even librarians work there in weekends, just a security guy that comes in every few hours)

It was great to be somewhat productive AND being able to play music on a library feels illegal 🤭
